First of all, fences are solid capital and decorative lattice. Some completely cover everything that happens in your yard, while others allow you to see everything, but do not allow it inside.

What are the types of fences in our time?

  • Wood;
  • Solid and decorative concrete slabs;
  • Plastic;
  • Brick;
  • Net;
  • From corrugated board.

Let's take a closer look at each type of fence and how to install it yourself.

Wooden fences are very popular, they are easy to install and carry out repair work. Let's take a look at the advantages and disadvantages of such a fence.

Advantages of a wooden fence:

Relatively inexpensive;
A wide variety of shapes and patterns;
Easy to install, even an amateur can handle it.

Flaws:

Requires constant self-care (painting);
Short-lived, the service life rarely exceeds 10 years.

To install a wooden fence with your own hands, you will need the following materials and tools:

  • Hammer, nails;
  • Level;
  • Pegs and rope;
  • Posts made of wood or metal;
  • Cement mortar;
  • Wooden beams 2-2.5 m long;
  • Fasteners made of wood of your favorite shape;
  • Varnish, drying oil, paint;
  • Hinged hinges;
  • Gate valve or lock on the gate.

In order to purchase the material necessary for construction, you can contact any hardware store where you can choose the shape and dimensions of the blanks you like. The most suitable size for future shtaffetin is 85 x 145 mm. This option is less time consuming, but more costly in terms of finance. If you want to save a little on, then contact the timber warehouse, where you will be offered a cheaper product that requires additional processing - a cut board. True, you will have to tinker with it a little - to shave off, walk with a grinder - but there will be an opportunity to significantly save money.

For the posts, it is advisable to use metal pipes, a channel, but if this is not possible, wood treated with special mixtures will also come down to prevent rapid decay.

Whatever material you buy, be sure to properly polyp and dry it! The service life of your wooden fence will depend on this.

  • First, mark the boundary along which your fence will run with a peg and rope. Pull the rope evenly around the entire perimeter of the future fence.
  • Decide where the gate will be located, its dimensions, mark the location of the posts.
  • Mark the location of your posts at a distance of 2 - 2.5 m from each other. Dig holes for posts at least 30 cm deep.

  • Install and dig in the posts, while making sure to set the posts strictly according to the level - they should stand straight and not fall into either side. If desired and possible, the posts can be concreted, so they will stand much longer.
  • On each column, at the top and bottom, we fasten the beams with a cross section of at least 50 x 50 mm with self-tapping screws.
  • We lay crossbars between the posts from above and below and screw them on both sides using self-tapping screws or nails.
  • It was the turn to nail the crossbars to the prepared skeleton. The distance between the staples can be at least 1.5-2 cm, but if you want to make this wooden fence solid, nail one board close to the other.
  • When your fence is already fully installed, you should start painting it. To do this, once again treat all the wooden elements of the fence with linseed oil, and after it dries with varnish or paint.

For a richer color and more protection from the elements, paint over your fence 2-3 times. This will extend its service life.

Concrete decorative fence has gained immense popularity in the last decade. The reason for the increase in popularity was the invention of collapsible structures, convenient for transportation and installation. Designers have perfected these concrete structures and filled the markets with all sorts of models of such fences. Such fences are ideal for both industrial enterprises and the private sector (houses, summer cottages).

Advantages of a concrete fence

  • Unpretentious;
  • Long service life - over 100 years;
  • Easy and quick to assemble;
  • Affordable price;
  • Variety of models.

Disadvantages of such a fence:

  • It is difficult to carry out all the operations on assembling the fence on your own; the help of 2-3 people will be required during delivery and installation.

Types of concrete fences:

Sectional type-setting - are widely used for fencing private houses, differ in variety. They are assembled from small sections that are inserted into the grooves of the posts. Everyone can choose for themselves the height of the fence and a specific model. There are openwork sections, lattice and solid. 2-3 people are enough for assembly;

Self-standing - they are more often used for fencing industrial facilities, they represent a huge solid wall, with a large ornament. Such a fence completely hides from prying eyes everything that is on the other side of it. The peculiarity of a self-contained fence is that each of its sections has its own support and does not need pillars at all. The downside is that when installing and dismantling it, you cannot do without a crane.

Having decided to install just such a fence on your site, take care of ventilating the site. If you decide to tightly fence yourself in, then the whole ecosystem of your garden may suffer from such a decision of yours. Without regular ventilation, the soil acidifies, grows overgrown with mosses, and trees begin to rot. The situation will be saved by a few lattice or openwork sections.

Marking the future fence with rope and stakes will help you clearly identify the scope of work, calculate the required number of sections, and mark the locations of future posts. Each section is 200 cm long, so the distance from one post to another will be 205 cm. Mark the place for the posts with stakes, and use a rope to check how level your fence will stand.

Unloading of building materials. The concrete fence sections have a weight of about 70 kg. The pillar itself weighs 90 kg. When unloading, it will be very important for you to take this into account and take measures to facilitate the installation process. If you lay out sections and posts along the entire working area (future fence), then you will significantly reduce both installation time and physical activity.

Installation of columns. This system does not require foundation pouring. The very first post and the latest are installed initially. After that, they dig in all the subsequent ones, strictly in the designated places. If the terrain is uneven, then the height can be adjusted using the height of the posts.

The sections are installed in special grooves located on each post. The lowest layer from below can be overlaid with roofing felt.

If desired, the finished sectional fence can be painted in any color, using special compositions for the facades for painting.

Despite their high cost, brick fences are still very popular. A very large assortment of bricks encourages the construction of more and more new structures that highlight the dignity of each brick.

Advantages of brick fences

  • Strength;
  • Reliability;
  • Durability;
  • Fire resistance;
  • Beauty;
  • Fundamentality.

Now it is customary to select a brick for the fence, under the brick from which the house is made - one complements the other! The fence can be solid and with elements of forging, gratings - everything is at your discretion.

Where to start the installation?

Draw a fence (albeit primitive), this will help to calculate the required amount of building materials. Mark the places of the columns on the plan with dots. Mark the location of the fence on the site. Using a cord and stakes, mark the places of the posts. Do not forget to also mark the place for the future wicket and gate! Measure all corners carefully, each corner must be exactly 90 degrees!

The foundation is the backbone of your fence. The more you place it correctly, the more stable and strong your fence will be. Initially, you should dig a trench under the foundation. For a strip foundation, a trench with a depth of at least 40-50 cm is ideal. But the higher the fence, the deeper and wider the foundation should be laid. IMPORTANT: fill the foundation all at once, otherwise the joints will crack and the structure will not be so strong anymore.

Before pouring concrete into the trench, you should prepare a place for the foundation - lay the so-called "bed". For her, sand must first be poured at the bottom of the trench, then gravel, everything must be thoroughly poured with water from a hose and thoroughly tamped. After that, make the formwork, lay the reinforcement. We fill the formwork with concrete, monitor the level. Let the foundation dry well and acquire the necessary strength. After a week, the formwork is allowed to be removed.

Brick masonry fence. On top of the foundation, be sure to lay a layer of roofing material, it is fixed with liquid glass and cement mortar. Through every 2 - 2.5 m we lay out pillars of 25x25 cm. Between the pillars, a socle of 50 cm in height and 25 cm in thickness is laid, above - the usual masonry in one or half brick. For a fence, laying in one brick will be sufficient. But if you are laying a high fence, then it is best to lay it in two rows. At your discretion, lay out with openwork, single-row or combined masonry. When laying, be sure to monitor the level! At the end of the masonry, engage in the jointing, observing its width of 5-6 mm.

Chain-link fences - cheap and beautiful!

The cheapest fence option! Even a beginner can handle the installation! All installation work can be done in one day.

The advantages of such a fence:
Provides ventilation of the site;
Durability - service life up to 30 years;
Economical - saving time, saving on labor.
Minuses:
The entire site is clearly visible;

1. Mark your site, using stakes and a cord, mark the future location of the posts and net;
2. Dig holes for the posts. The posts can be either metal or concrete; in the most simplified versions, wooden ones will also do.
3. Depending on the soil, take care of strengthening the posts. If the soil is dense, reliable, it will be enough just to dig a column into it to a depth of 60-70 cm. But if there are any peculiarities, be sure to prepare the holes. Fill the bottom with sand first, and then gravel, insert a column at a right angle (using a level) and fill it with cement mortar.

4. Stretch the net and attach it to the posts. The chain-link can be attached to wooden posts with nails, wire. But you need to attach a chain-link to metal and concrete with special fasteners. However, the most popular type of attachment to any posts is the same wire.

5. With the help of a reinforcing wire stretched between the mesh cells, you need to properly stretch the mesh to prevent it from sagging. It is recommended to stretch the reinforcing wire both from the top and from the bottom of the mesh.
6. To protect the chain-link from metal corrosion, you should paint the mesh cells well with any oil paint on drying oil.

DIY fence made of corrugated board - an inexpensive option

Corrugated fences are also very popular. A large assortment of metal profiles and a huge range of colors contributes to this. If you have building materials and the necessary tools, the work will not take much time and effort.

  • Sheets of corrugated board;
  • Metal pillars;
  • Cross logs (2-3 pcs. For each section);
  • Screwdriver;
  • Self-tapping screws;
  • Level;
  • Welding machine;
  • Sand;
  • Gravel;
  • Cement mortar.

Front of works:

Always and everywhere, when installing any fence, you need to mark the location of the fence itself and the posts, as well as the presence of a wicket and a gate.
Drill or dig holes 1-1.2 m deep under the posts.
Use sand, gravel, and water to prepare a pillow for each bollard. The height of such a pillow should be about 25 cm.
Install the prepared metal posts with a cross section of 50x50mm into the drilled holes directly on the gravel pad. Align the posts with a level and fill their base with cement mortar.

Using self-tapping screws, attach the sheets of corrugated board to the resulting frame. But the best option for attaching the corrugated board to the logs will be special rivets for metal. Using them you will protect your brand new fence from intruders.

Brick and stone fences

Brick fence:

  1. A facing brick fence is the most popular option among consumers. You can add various patterns or color pigments to it. A brick fence can be supplemented with wood. The fence does not need to be processed with anything. This type belongs to the first class of fences.

  1. Monolithic - it turns out to be quite strong and reliable, has a long service life. Installation of the structure is carried out on a columnar or strip foundation. The fence is installed using specialized equipment. It will be difficult to enter the site and steal something.
  2. Block - it is created from slotted or solid blocks, but the first type is most often used. The fence can be built from blocks with dimensions of 200x200x400 or 390x140x188 mm.
  3. Self-contained - the structure consists of several sections. There is no need to build a foundation for it. But during installation, you cannot do without a lift, which is used for construction. In summer cottages, such an entrance option is practically not used.
  4. Typesetting - the structure will consist of individual panel elements. Installation of the fence is carried out by 2-3 builders. The panels must be inserted into specially equipped grooves.

Concrete fence with forging elements

Psychologists say that what a person is, so is the fence around his house. That is, how many people, so many decisions! But the choice is still limited. Let's see what options for fencing are available to us today.

Additional means of protection (installation of special sensors, barbed wire, etc.).

A correctly selected fence for a summer cottage unites its territory into a harmonious and stylish architectural ensemble. As beautiful as the house is, it remains just a separate building. If a fence made in the same style, in the same color scheme is added to it, the house begins to be perceived differently. When arranging a fence, its structure and material should be linked to the facade of the main building and other structures on the site.

It is necessary to decide what qualities of the fence are most important for the owners of the house: comfort, style, a sense of spaciousness or enclosed space.

A correct fence should provide:

  • protection from intruders, including animals (cats, dogs, hares and others);
  • ventilation of the site, resistance to bad weather (strong wind, rain, snow, temperature changes);
  • normal insolation of the site.

At the same time, the fence should have an attractive, architecturally verified appearance with the correct proportions. It is advisable to take into account the cost of maintenance (repair, painting, washing, surface protection) in advance.

Special Requirements:

  • protection from prying eyes;
  • noise protection;
  • night and decorative lighting;
  • video monitoring.

Types of fences for summer cottages

There are different types of fences. There is an opinion that their construction should be trusted exclusively by professionals. But if you are used to doing everything with your own hands on your site, then you can easily cope with the construction of the fence. If the site is part of a guarded summer cottage village, you can build a light fence that rather serves as a decorative function. Let's look at some of the common fencing options.

Mesh fence

If you need a cheap, fairly reliable and attractive fence, then you can stop at a mesh fence. Today, a variety of meshes are produced from different materials suitable for fencing areas.

Those who want to hide from prying eyes can decorate the mesh fence with fresh flowers, climbing plants, which will only add decorativeness to the site.

The most common among gardeners is a chain-link mesh, consisting of wire spirals, where each spiral is, as it were, screwed into the neighboring ones. It got its name from the German Karl Rabitz. Today, the mesh woven in this way can have a special polymer coating, which improves its operational properties. The coating can be of different colors. Such a fence lets in the sun's rays, which are necessary for the growth of vegetables, fruits and flowers, and provides good ventilation.

The integrity of the chain-link mesh is easy to break even without the use of a tool - a piece of wire is easily weaved out of the common web in a circular rotation, and the web falls into pieces. But you can also connect parts of the canvas again by repeating this operation in the reverse order.

Flaws. Uncoated mesh will rust and look sloppy. The top of the mesh sags; to fix it, you need to install a horizontal bar (slug) or pull the wire. In this case, a strong wire tension can tilt the posts, and a weak one does not compensate for the sag of the mesh.

The cost per square meter of such a fence is from 300 rubles.

Bar fence

Recently, ready-made panels made of galvanized bars with a polymer coating have become widespread. High strength, reliability and manufacturability of products are combined with a modern appearance, ease of perception, transparency and good protective qualities. The fence post is made of a rectangular pipe 60 * 40 mm with a wall thickness of 2 mm. The post is galvanized and coated with a polymer coating.

The fence panel is a welded lattice made of a rod with a thickness of 4-5 mm, with spatial stiffening ribs. The mesh of the lattice has dimensions from 100 x 50 mm to 200 x 50 mm.

The height of the post is selected depending on the depth of concreting and the height of the metal section.

Two component parts

Monolithic base for a fence with a width of 510 mm and a depth of 400 mm - from 3900 rubles / running. m.

The cost per square meter of the fence is from 400 rubles.

Flaws. Visibility - additional anti-gaze protection measures are required. Not available everywhere, price may vary depending on delivery.

Not everyone hides beauty behind a tall fence.

Fence from a professional sheet

This is a budget option for fencing a plot. The advantages of corrugated sheet fences are high speed and ease of installation.

Sheets are produced in different colors, they are inexpensive, lightweight, durable and functional. The material does not corrode, it withstands frost and heat well, the height of such a fence can be any, since this material is cut to the customer's size. The best is a sheet with a thickness of 0.5 mm of domestic production.

An example of a neatly made fencing from a profiled sheet. It is in harmony with the architecture of the house. Installed only on the part of the plot facing the road.

The fence is the business card of the site, which can tell a lot about the owner. If the fence is unreliable and careless, then, most likely, the owner does not attach much importance to the neatness and beauty of his yard. A smooth, solid fence indicates that a practical person lives behind it, who is not used to throwing money away and understands that it is better to do something good once and forget, than to redo and repair many times. There are several types of fences. Each of them has its own characteristics that you need to know in order to choose a good fencing.

Fence scheme from corrugated board with basic dimensions.

Types of fences: which one to choose?

Increasingly, they strive to make the fence not only reliable, but also beautiful, so that it decorates the site and complements its general appearance.

As a rule, such fences are installed in front of the main facade or from the side of the entrance to the house. The rest of the territory is surrounded by a more modest fence, because it is still not visible. Also, fences can be used for household purposes, equipping them with racks and shelves. Some types of fences act as support for different plants, such as ivy or grapes, which makes them even more attractive. Fences that are opaque and high enough are a source of shade on warm days, so plants that are sensitive to direct sunlight can be planted around them. So choosing a fence is not so easy. In this case, it is necessary to take into account the operating conditions, material features, practicality and cost.

Among the materials used for the construction of fences, the most popular can be distinguished:

  • metal;
  • concrete;
  • brick;
  • tree.

Recently, profiled sheets and other types of building materials and their combinations are often used. The main entrance is usually made of more beautiful and expensive materials. When starting to build a fence, it is imperative that you familiarize yourself with the building codes and legal framework. For example, only "transparent" fences made of mesh or picket fence can be used between adjacent areas; In this case, it is forbidden to use a solid brick wall.

Stone, brick and reinforced concrete: for those who love reliability and solidity

Stone fences are rightfully considered the most reliable and durable. Such a fence will perfectly combine with a house, the facade of which is also made of stone, or its finish imitates some kind of stone surface. Dolomite, shell rock, granite and other rocks are used as building materials for stone fences. Each material has its own unique texture and is selected taking into account the general design style of a summer cottage or personal plot. Marble can also be used as a material for the construction of a fence, but such a fence will require rather large costs, since in this case, not only the material itself is expensive, but also installation work.

The second place in terms of strength, reliability and durability is taken by brick fences. The service life of such fences can be up to 50 years without repair and special maintenance. Moisture affects the quality of the material, therefore, if your site is located in a lowland, it is better to choose a different material for building a fence. As a rule, red or facing bricks are used for such fences. The use of a simple brick requires additional processing, so it is rarely used.

Until recently, reinforced concrete fences were considered the privilege of industrial enterprises and construction sites. Faceless gray walls can ruin any, even the most chic landscape. However, progress does not stand still, and modern technologists make it possible to completely transform gray concrete blocks, acquiring various shades, ornaments with patterns and textures. In terms of durability, reinforced concrete fences are not inferior to brick ones, and their cost is lower by 10-15%.

Forged fences - a chic solution

Forging metal is one of the oldest ways of processing this material. For many centuries, forged products have been decorating sites, giving them a unique look. For adherents of everything unusual and original, we can recommend installing a forged fence on your site. Such a fence will not only provide increased safety, comfort and reliability, but will also give your site the spirit of aristocracy, and will delight others for many years to come.

At your discretion, you can choose a through or a blind forged fence. Any option will perfectly fit into the design of the site and will not cause any difficulties during operation. Such fences are quite expensive, but they also serve for a very long time.

Mesh-netting and corrugated board: inexpensive, but also good

A chain-link fence is great for fencing a plot from neighbors' eyes in those places where a solid fence cannot be erected. It can also be used as a facade fence. To hide the site from prying eyes, various bushes are planted along such a fence. This solution is often used in their projects by landscape designers.

Among the main advantages of the chain-link mesh are:

  • unpretentious care;
  • durability;
  • resistance to damage;
  • low cost.

Recently, corrugated fences have become very popular. This structure is a galvanized steel sheet attached to the posts. Such a fence is easy to install, it is affordable, has a fairly long service life and is unpretentious in maintenance.
