Red rhizome brush. Red brush grass

The use of herbal ingredients for the treatment of various diseases dates back to ancient times. People have learned to use the gifts of nature for the benefit of their health. One of the representatives of medicinal herbs is a red brush, its medicinal properties and contraindications to the use of which will be described in this article.

Red brush grass description, photo

Rhodiola quadrifida (Rhodiola quadripartite) belongs to the jumbo family. The plant has a lot of other names - four-membered rhodiola, frosty, four-incised, red root. It is often called Siberian ginseng. It is endemic to such areas as the Altai Territory and the Angara-Sayan region. It grows near water sources, on rocky slopes.

Attention! This plant is listed in the Red Book as a rare and endangered species.

If you had a chance to see with your own eyes the four-part Rhodiola, perhaps you would not even pay much attention to it. The herbaceous perennial does not have an outstanding appearance, and its small growth (8-20 cm) covers modest bushes among the taller growth.

This complicates the extraction of valuable raw materials - the root of the plant. It has a lot of branches and a pleasant aroma. Like most plants of the family Rhodiola frosty, frosty Rhodiola has a caudex - a lignified stem, consisting of many layers of dead stems. On it there are many thin straight stems, densely covered with lanceolate leaves. They look like small fleshy needles curved upward. The leaf is about 2 cm long and 3 mm wide. Succulent leaves will certainly begin to crumble from a careless touch.

The flower petals range in color from cream to dark red. The perianth is red, the flowers are dioecious. They are collected in the corymbose inflorescence. Flowering occurs in June-July, after which the seeds begin to ripen.

The collection of rhizomes is carried out precisely in this short period of time: after the end of flowering and before the seeds ripen. A lot of them are formed in the fruit, which looks like an elongated straight leaflet. The prepared raw materials are thoroughly dried in a dark ventilated area. It retains its healing properties for two years.

It is interesting! Like all succulents, Rhodiola quadrifida accumulates water in its green leaves. She consumes it with the onset of unfavorable, arid conditions, which occur quite often in the mountains.

The chemical composition of the plant

The incredible adaptability to survival in the harsh mountainous terrain has endowed Rhodiola with the frosty ability to accumulate nutrients in its rhizome. It contains the following substances:

  1. Anthraglycosides. These substances stimulate the peristalsis of the intestinal tract, have an antimicrobial effect. Most of all, in this group of substances, salidroside is released, which has powerful anti-inflammatory and oncoprotective properties. Scientists are developing experimental cancer drugs based on salidroside. It slows down oxidative processes in cells and protects them from premature aging, is a powerful adaptogen.
  2. Essential oils. Possess bactericidal, immunomodulatory, analgesic and sedative properties.
  3. Phenols. These chemical compounds affect the permeability of the vessel walls, which will save you from fixing cholesterol plaques. They have anti-inflammatory and antifungal properties.
  4. Organic acids. They are responsible for the synthesis of blood cells, participate in metabolism, break down fats. Helps remove free radicals and toxins, strengthens the immune system.
  5. Sterols. They regulate the work of the cardiovascular system, protect against autoimmune reactions.
  6. Tannins and waxes. They have an anti-inflammatory, astringent, wound healing effect.
  7. Flavonoids. A powerful antioxidant. Helps in the fight against the toxic effects of various substances. It has a beneficial effect on all body systems - digestive, cardiovascular, nervous, reproductive, immune, endocrine.
  8. Phytohormones. They regulate hormonal levels, lower blood pressure, restore reproductive function, and regulate the adrenal glands.
  9. Betaines. They provide protection against stress, are hepatoprotective, increase joint mobility by reducing the viscosity of the synovium.

Know! Indigenous Altaians claim that the healing power of Rhodiola fourfold can help even a seriously ill person.

In addition to biologically active substances, the rhizome is rich in microelements:

  1. Zinc. Regulates the work of the reproductive system of men and women. Stimulates brain activity. Participates in the metabolism at the cellular level. Responsible for the development of bone tissue and insulin synthesis.
  2. Nickel. Responsible for protein metabolism and synthesis of DNA molecules. Regulates prolactin levels.
  3. Manganese. Participates in lipid and carbohydrate metabolism, insulin production. Stimulates the production of blood cells. Restores the female reproductive system.
  4. Cobalt. A powerful antioxidant that promotes the production of antibodies and blood cells.
  5. Selenium. Cancer protector and immunomodulator. Responsible for the work of sex hormones. In women, it reduces the manifestations of menopause, in men it increases sperm motility.
  6. Chromium. Responsible for carbohydrate metabolism. Helps fight diabetes by lowering blood glucose levels. Eliminates cholesterol plaques, helps lower blood pressure.
  7. Copper. Responsible for the synthesis of hemoglobin, increasing resistance to oxygen starvation. Has oncoprotective, immunostimulating action.
  8. Molybdenum. Participates in carbohydrate and fat metabolism, stimulates cell growth. Responsible for the exchange of iron in liver cells.

Know! In addition to all the listed components, the red brush contains a high molecular weight carbohydrate - gum. It removes toxins from the body and reduces the side effects of antibiotics.

Useful and medicinal properties

The nature-selected chemical composition of Rhodiola frosty makes it an excellent remedy with the following properties:

  • anti-aging;
  • adaptogenic;
  • antispasmodic;
  • sedatives;
  • hemostatic;
  • immunomodulatory;
  • anti-inflammatory;
  • cancer-protective;
  • antiviral, antifungal, antibacterial.

The uniqueness of this plant is that it has a healing effect at the cellular level. The components of the rhizome help to eliminate the direct cause of the disease, and not its consequence. It is also important that Rhodiola fourfold stimulates its own immunity to fight against pathogenic influences of the external environment.

It is successfully used as an independent remedy or in the complex treatment of the following diseases:

  • cardiovascular system: leukemia, anemia, arterial and intracranial hypertension, atherosclerosis, inflammation of the lymph nodes;

Application: truth and myth

A red brush is used in the treatment of gynecological, urological pathologies. It is used to cleanse the blood, activate immunity, improve performance, remove toxins and toxins.

Medicines with Siberian ginseng root are also recommended by gastroenterologists. Anthraglycosides mildly weaken and enhance intestinal motility. Combined therapy with anticancer drugs gives excellent results. Antioxidants help slow the growth of cancer cells.

Cosmetologists note the regeneration of skin cells and their general rejuvenation. The reason for this is so for certain and unknown, but in the chemical composition of the plant there are quite a lot of substances that contribute to the regeneration of cells and the normalization of the work of all systems of the body.

Endocrinologists include frosty Rhodiola in the category of biological hormonal agents, it helps to maintain a healthy hormonal background of the entire endocrine system. In particular, it restores the normal secretion of sex hormones, insulin and hormones produced by the adrenal glands.

Know! Rhodiola four-part has found application not only in traditional medicine, it is officially recognized as a herbal remedy.

However, traditional medicine does not make large contributions to the study of the properties of this unique plant. This is explained quite simply: the red brush has a narrow growing area, and the extraction of medicinal raw materials is fraught with some difficulties. After removing the root, the plant will die, making it irrelevant for large-scale production.

Scientists from China do not give up their attempts to industrial cultivation of a medicinal endemic. Together with Poles and Germans, they are conducting experiments to develop a real panacea - a cure for cancer.

As for the myths regarding the use of the plant - they simply do not exist. But there is a beautiful Altai legend about its origin: “In ancient times, one shaman was engaged in healing seriously ill people. One day he had a dream that was destined to come true. He watched a wonderful butterfly, which he had not seen in his life. Its flight ended at a strange flower, similar to a brush with a red head. He felt an unprecedented surge of strength and felt the healing properties of this plant.

Having awakened, the doctor repeated his wanderings in reality and found an unknown bush. He extracted its root, which, in the process of washing in a mountain stream, dyed the water in a scarlet color. So the shaman came up with a name for a new medicinal plant - a red brush ”.

It is interesting! Frosty Rhodiola received its popular name not only because of the external resemblance to the cleaning tool of the same name. Herbalists compare the result of its use with the action of a brush, which brings cleanliness and order throughout the body.

Healing properties for men

The root of Rhodiola fourfold is a real panacea in the treatment of diseases of the male genital area. Men are reluctant to go to the doctor when various problems appear and very often bring a banal sore to a serious condition. Application for preventive and therapeutic purposes will help in the presence of the following pathologies:

  • inflammation of the prostate gland;
  • violation of potency;
  • oligospermia;
  • infertility;
  • BPH;
  • decreased sperm activity.

The anti-inflammatory effect of the admission is able to defeat the cause of prostatitis - the inflammatory process caused by pathogenic microflora. The general tonic and adaptogenic effect fights stress perfectly and restores immune function, which has a beneficial effect on the potency and quality of sperm. And the presence of biological hormones is able to adjust its own hormonal background, restore confidence in male strength, restore potency and cure infertility.

Important! Rhodiola quadrifida also helps in the prevention of stroke, atherosclerosis, which men are more susceptible to.

Fans of improper nutrition, which contains a large amount of cholesterol, will benefit from the prophylactic intake of Rhodiola four-membered. It will help break down excess cholesterol and prevent it from forming stagnant phenomena in the vessels, which will have a beneficial effect on arterial and intracranial pressure.

Benefits for women

The female body experiences stress and hormonal imbalances at various times. The mild effect of phytohormones helps to restore the normal production of their own body. The tonic, adaptogenic and immunomodulatory effect of the drugs, which include a red brush, will help women restore their natural strength and overcome many pathologies of the gynecological sphere.

In order to properly prepare for conception and a successful pregnancy, it is recommended to take preparations with four-part rhodiola in the composition.

The absorbing action will help in the fight against neoplasms in the chest and small pelvis. The hemostatic and antispasmodic effect makes the plant indispensable for prolonged and painful menstruation. During menopause, drugs based on Rhodiola four-membered will even out the hormonal background of the endocrine system and remove symptoms such as depression, anxiety, hot flashes, headaches, high blood pressure, and mood swings.

Rhodiola is cold, four-part, four-membered - these are all the names of one plant, better known to the people as a red brush. It is a rare but very effective herbal remedy for the treatment of diseases of the female reproductive system.

The red brush is a perennial of the Tolstyankovye family. The plant has low, 10 to 30 cm, reddish stems, covered with many thin, thorn-like leaves.

Rhodiola forms a bush of numerous stems, on the tops of which small inflorescences of yellow flowers with reddish tips appear at the beginning of summer.

Due to the abundance of thin leaves, the stems look like a brush, which is why the plant received this name. In addition, due to the red tops of the flowers, the entire bush appears reddish.

All the healing power of the red brush is contained in the root, which is just as powerful and long, consisting of a wide rhizome and extending deep into the soil of the taproot process.

The red brush is a plant with a very limited range and grows only in the Altai Territory, but even there it is a rather rare species that requires restrictions in the collection of raw materials in order to preserve the population.

Collection and procurement of raw materials

Harvesting of the root is carried out in the summer months between the beginning of flowering and the period of seed ripening. It is allowed to harvest raw materials in one place every 5 years.

The root is dug out of the ground, chopping off the lateral branches. Wash in cold water, dry and leave to dry under a canopy or in a warm room with good ventilation.

They are laid out in cardboard boxes and stored for 2 years.

Red brush, other names of which: Rhodiola four-membered, frosty, red root, Siberian ginseng is a valuable and rare perennial medicinal plant of the Tolstyankovy family and the Radiola genus. It prefers a humid, moderately cold climate and grows at an altitude of 3,000 meters in the mountainous parts of Altai, which are the birthplace of the plant.

This curiosity can be found on rocky places and rocky slopes, in gorges, along rivers and streams. It is believed that the plant acquired a storehouse of useful properties precisely because of its ability to survive in a mountainous climate. Today, there are over 65 plant species that are common in North America, Western Europe and Asia.

The healing properties and contraindications of the red brush were primarily studied in the homeland of the plant. The indigenous population of the Altai Territory respectfully and carefully treats the red brush, which has won a reputation as a unique healer. It is believed that drugs based on it are able to heal people, even those close to death. The culture belongs to the list of rare and endangered plants in Siberia and is not harvested on an industrial scale.

Morphological description

In appearance, Rhodiola resembles a spherical pillow.

The multi-headed wide rhizomes from below pass into a woody, vertical root. The bottom of the stem and the apex of the root form a caudex - a powerful woody stem, which is covered from above with the remains of last year's stems. The cut root has a pleasant aroma similar to that of roses.

The stems are erect or curved, unbranched, thin, extending directly from the rhizome and surrounded by last year's reddish leaves, which formed the basis of the name. The leaves are alternate, twisted, whole-edged, flat, in the shape of a triangle or semicircle and brown or brownish in color. They are located close to each other and have a length of up to 8 cm, they fall off very easily.

Flowers of yellow or yellow-green color are collected in terminal corymbose, racemose or capitate-corymbose inflorescences of 3-5 flowers, mainly dioecious. The perianth is fused at the very base and has a dark red or yellowish red color. The fruit is a straight leaflet with a short spout. The seeds are small and numerous.

Flowering falls in June-July.
