RSUH Library website

The scientific library of the Russian State University for the Humanities is located in the Main building of the Russian State University for the Humanities, and also has divisions in the Historical and Archival Institute and the Institute of Information Sciences and Security Technologies.

Registration of 1st year students in the library and issuance of textbooks for the first semester is carried out at the place of study according to the schedule posted on the subscriptions and website of the Scientific Library. At the same time, students receive passwords to access the university’s electronic library, electronic library systems and licensed electronic resources.

To travel in the Moscow metro and on public transport, full-time students (students, bachelors, masters) must obtain a student social card (SCS).

about registration of SCS

(OSO RSUH) was created on April 4, 2014 by the Constituent Assembly of representatives of faculties, creative associations and members of the Academic Council of the RSUH, elected according to a quota from students.

The main goal of the university Student Council is to protect the rights and represent the interests of students, as well as assistance in organizing work with students; providing information support to RSUH students and support (implementation) of their initiatives in various areas of activity.

Each 1st year student studying at the expense of the federal budget will receive an academic scholarship during the 1st semester.

From the 2nd academic semester, the appointment of a state academic scholarship depends on the successful completion of the session .

If you do not have a certificate of compulsory pension insurance with a unique “individual personal account insurance number” (SNILS), you need to issue it urgently.

SNILS is necessary for the formation of a future pension, for receiving government services electronically and benefits, reducing the number of documents when receiving various services, as well as for issuing a bank card on which scholarships and other payments will be credited.

Student at this university: RSUH. Institute of Linguistics (IL).

I have only been studying at this university for 1 semester, but I already have a certain idea about it. Overall - great. I don’t regret that I entered here (I had a choice: a budget at the Russian State University for the Humanities or a 75% discount at the Higher School of Economics).
Now, in order, about all the pros and cons.

ADMISSION.
The admissions office is staffed by students, in different rooms for different majors. There is a sign with the numbers of the required offices both on the website and in the lobby of any building. They fill out quickly, without problems, without unnecessary questions. On the day of submission, I indicated the availability of additional certificates to receive additional points, but did not bring copies of the documents; they called me in the evening and reminded me of this, asking me to bring them.

FRESH-YEAR MEETING.
All information necessary for first-year students is posted on the website at the end of August. A meeting takes place at which the essence of the training is explained. Each direction has its own curator of teachers and a team leader of students (but this does not mean that you can only contact them with questions, absolutely everyone is open: both students and teachers).

BUILDING.
I would like to pay special attention to the buildings on the street. Chayanova, 15 and st. Miusskaya, 6. Almost all the buildings are located in one place, which is very convenient. But they definitely require repairs (and not even cosmetic ones). I wouldn’t say that the plaster is falling on my head, but in most classrooms chairs are broken or missing, desks sometimes shake, the toilets often have no paper, soap and paper towels, and they themselves are not in the best condition. But here the complaint is not against IL specifically, but against the Russian State University for the Humanities as a whole. There is a beautiful building on the street. Nikolskaya, 15, there is a faculty of historians and archivists. There is also a printing yard there, the first printing house, founded in 1553 under Ivan the Terrible, and RSUH students can visit such a historical place for free and without queues. There is also a building for computer scientists somewhere in the middle of nowhere (no one knows where it is except themselves).

DORMITORY.
It is almost impossible to get a hostel in the 1st year - you need to enroll on a budget at a minimum. They give places in the future if a person still needs and/or lives in other hostels (their prices are higher). I haven’t been in the building itself, I can only say that it is located near the Academician Yangel Street metro station.

ORGANIZATION.
IL is considered the faculty with the best organization, but even there there are problems. This:
1. Schedule. The schedule is unstable, something changes every two or three weeks, something is removed, something is added, so you need to check it every week. Sometimes the schedule does not correspond to reality, for example, there are two pairs of subject N, of which only one will be taught due to the division into groups (but on the other hand, something is analyzed in more depth, since there are fewer students).
2. The working hours of teachers, departments or the dean’s office may not seem convenient to everyone; sometimes you have to run after them.
However, as I noted above, IL is the most organized place, so I’m even afraid to imagine what’s going on in other faculties.

EDUCATION.
In the 1st year we were given most of the general education subjects (economics, philosophy, history of Russia and history of the world, etc.), which, on the one hand, is very good, since many specialized subjects will follow. On the other hand, many people cannot stand this boredom and leave without waiting for something interesting. But specialized ones are also present, and are taught at a very high level (this also works in the opposite direction - there are many requirements for a good grade in the exam).

SESSION.
There is no session. That's exactly it. The subject is over - you pass it. Ended in mid-October? It’s not a question - here’s a test, decide, give me a record book. This system has its pros and cons: you can immediately be free from some tests, or you can arrive for classes at 10 a.m. in mid-January, and after that you can also manage to pass the exam.

CORRUPTION.
No and it cannot be.

LANGUAGE.
Separate item for language. They are taught to a very high level. Everyone comes out with knowledge, but for the sake of this knowledge you will have to work very hard, because they ask and demand a lot. The advantage is that the student himself chooses the language he wants to study (from those offered this year), priority goes to high-scoring students. Oriental languages and rare European languages are taught - in a word, for every taste.

COUPLES.
Lectures and seminars are open, i.e. When studying at IL, you can come and listen to what they teach at another department, if it’s interesting. No one will kick you out, the main thing is to warn the teacher. Most seminars are held in groups, but teachers allow you to go with the one with which you are comfortable.

COMPETITION AND PASSING SCORE.
The competition and passing scores can be viewed on the university website. But I want to explain why it is so big: there are a lot of applications and very few budget places. That's quite a bit. There is practically no competition for the scarf.
Points are a different story altogether. They change in very large leaps (compare: 2014 - 244; 2015 - 262; 2017 - 274 in the second waves). A couple more years, and the IL will also only be accepted for Olympiads.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES.
There are many sections and clubs for every taste - sports, intellectual games, KVN, choir (in my opinion, there are even two of them), theater club. There are student councils. Many events are organized, all sorts of festivals, competitions, and various public lectures and performances are often held. Anyone will find something to keep themselves busy.

I would also really like to note the warm relationship with the teachers. Almost immediately, upon entering IL, you understand that no one is your enemy here, everyone will help, answer questions, tell you what to do. And I think this is very important and very valuable.

Let me remind you once again that the review is specifically about IL, and I am delighted with it.

Result: IL - 10/10, RSUH (overall) - 7/10.

Some tips that will help you survive 4 years (or even more) at the Russian State University for the Humanities.

1. You can get to the Russian State University for the Humanities through two entrances - the main one (from Chayanova Street) and the entrance from Miusskaya Square. The main one is convenient to use if you need to get a pair in the 6th or 7th building, and the other one - if you need to get into a pair in the 1st, 2nd, 5th and God knows what kind of building.

2. In the main building (6th) you can donate outerwear to the wardrobe, but the RSUH grandmothers-wardrobe attendants have their own thing - they don’t take clothes without eyelets, so before handing in your jacket, it’s better to check whether you have that treasured eyelet sewn on. They may, of course, forgive you the first time, but you will have to listen to a portion of grumbling. You cannot return packages and bags - it’s better not to try.

3. It happens that you need to print something (diploma, coursework, materials for a seminar, etc.), for this you need to go to the paid services department. It is located in the main building on the 6th floor - go up and go to the right. Copy machines installed in some buildings do not work in most cases.

4. If there is a queue for the elevators in the main building, you can try to leave on another one - you will find it if you go right along the corridor to the end. True, for some reason that elevator does not go to the 5th floor, and if you press on the 6th, it will take you to the exhibition hall (there are sometimes lectures there, and there is a cool picture where a girl is talking with a humanoid horse about something breathtakingly funny ).

6. You can order books through the scientific library website in the electronic catalog section. To log into your account, you need to indicate your last name and library card number (on the barcode on your student ID).

7. It is better to submit books on time. If a book is overdue by at least a day, a student is automatically blacklisted and can no longer borrow other books or enter the library or computer class. Plus, for every overdue day, 6 rubles of debt accrue. But the most important thing is that if a student confesses, the library staff will spit, swear and promise the unfortunate person heavenly punishment.

8. If the book has been overdue for a long time, and it seems to you that it’s possible to write a thesis without going to the library (thank you the Internet!), then you can take a risk and wait until the last minute - namely, until the forgiven days. They are announced in May for all graduates - if you hand in the book on one of these days, you will not have to pay the debt. In general, during these May days, you can witness the writing off of quite large debts - 5 thousand rubles or more! And as soon as the RSUH budget gets by without this money, it would be possible to renovate a couple of buildings...

9. The dining room can be accessed through the 2nd floor of the main building. It’s almost like in a fairy tale - you go left and you come to the buffet. If you go to the right, you will end up in the canteen. Meals in the canteen are cheap and cheerful. For lunch you can take lunch, it costs about 130-140 rubles - it’s already cheap, cheerful, and often not very tasty.

10. In the vicinity of the university there are many places where you can eat - two Coffee Houses, Shokoladnitsa, Friday's, Teremok, two pizzerias, Mu-Mu, McDonald's, KFC, Yaposha, etc. It is more profitable and cheaper to eat on special offers - business lunches, breakfast. During the break, many students walk to the grocery store - “Mongolia” (actually “Magnolia”, but the nickname has already stuck).

11. Wi-Fi can be found in many corners of the Russian State University for the Humanities, but the most constant is on the 5th floor in the main building. Sometimes he works in the library and at the main auditorium (227) in building 7.

12. The point-rating system, according to which all grades are given at the Russian State University for the Humanities, is designed to make life easier for students, but this is not always the case. Ideally, grades should be given according to one scheme - several intermediate assessments and points for seminars, but in reality, each teacher distributes points in his own way. Some people score a lot of points in seminars, some in tests, and some leave all 100 points until the final exam. Because of this, it is better to find out in the first lesson how and for what you can get points during the semester. This will make it easier to understand, stress at seminars, write an essay or prepare for the first test. Plus, it’s better to immediately find out whether automatic machines are possible and in what form to submit work - in writing, in print, in soap or dropbox, in doc or docx format (this is also very important!).

13. According to the point-rating system, for a C you need to score only 50 out of 100 possible points. For a “good” grade you need 68, and for an “excellent” - 84. To pass without a grade, you need to earn at least 50 points, just like for a C grade.

15. Computers at the university are often old and infected with dozens of viruses, so save presentations and other documents in old versions of Word and Power Point (preferably the 2003 version), otherwise the files may not open (this will be especially fun when defending your thesis), and don’t forget to check then flash drives for viruses.

16. The most interesting events at the Russian State University for the Humanities are a karaoke competition, KVN and the university’s birthday, at the latter you can grab a piece of delicious cake.

17. If you are a boy and good at football, sign up for the house team. Bonuses: another reason to give you an increased scholarship, a “valid” reason to sometimes skip classes (“I have a training session, tomorrow we’ll play with MSU students!”), the title of the best graduate “for success in sports” and a machine gun in physical education.

18. You cannot move into the RSUH dormitory in the 1st year, and you are warned about this right away. In the first semester of the first year there is really little chance of settling in, but in the second semester they can already settle in. Try to be an eyesore to those who are checking into the hostel more often, go in and ask if there is a place/room.
