Finishing the corners of the walls in the apartment: the right options. Making corners in a living room - filling the void (55 photos) Decorative finishing of the outer corner in the room

In our time, empty corners are an irrational use of free space. Therefore, in order not to give the abyss of free meters, it is necessary to correctly organize the decor of the corners.

In the process of decorating corners, it is very important to maintain balance in order to use the space not only in terms of practicality, but also to make it a beautiful element of the interior.

Floor vases

One of the options to make the corner of the room look beautiful without any extra effort is to put up a floor vase.

However, in this case, you need to learn certain nuances, so the larger the corner area, the more voluminous vase will be required, if this is not enough, then you can add a couple of smaller vases to it. Do not decorate the corner with a low vase, except for wide round vases.

If a vase is of an interesting shape, bright colors or spectacularly painted, then it is not necessary to fill it with something, it is beautiful in itself.

But it is better to fill an inexpressive vase with stylish contents, for example, bamboo, reeds, spruce branches, original twigs, herbarium or artificial flowers, as in the photo of the decor of the corners.

A vase can be successfully replaced by a wicker basket or voluminous glassware decorated with pebbles or shells. This unusual design solution will make the corner a highlight of the room.

Racks for pots with indoor flowers

A beautiful planter with a large and bright flower looks quite advantageous in the corner. Moreover, the more free space, the larger the plant should be.

So, for example, if the decor of a corner in a room may look like this, there is a beautiful glass or forged counter in the corner, on which beautiful pots with plants are located, a palm tree will take the central place among them.

It is important to take into account that the rack model must match the style of the interior of the room. This design will especially effectively emphasize the rustic and eco style.

Floor lamps

Traditionally, floor lamps are placed in the corner, but you can make the classics more interesting if you put 2 symmetrical lighting fixtures.

This option is not only outwardly attractive, but also functional, as it additionally illuminates the room, emphasizing style and highlighting accents.

Mirrors

The most interesting decor of the corner of the wall is the use of a mirror, with which you can change the perception of space, expand the room or lengthen it.

Using mirror surfaces as a decor, it is not necessary to hang the entire mirror, two narrow mirror strips are enough, which are mounted at the junction of both walls.

You can also put a floor mirror in the corner or install a screen with mirrors. In this case, care must be taken to ensure that the mirror structure is well fixed.

The mirrored corner can be supplemented with a beautiful floor lamp or spotlights.

Gallery

Family photos in beautiful frames can be included in the decor of the corners in the apartment. A great option to decorate the corner with a three-dimensional picture.

Pendants

Quite rarely, such a design technique as ceiling pendants is used in decorating a corner. However, this is one of the most effective ways to decorate a corner space.

To create an original design in the interior of the hallway, a lighting fixture with an unusual lampshade hanging low from the ceiling allows you to create an original design.

You can also use curly flowers as a hanging decoration.

Console

Decorating the corners with decor includes not only beautiful objects, but also the functional use of free space, a console can be an ideal option in this case.

The most successful solution can be called the corner console model, with its help you can fill the corner with the necessary things, moreover, such an angle will look great.

Side table

The corner of the room will look luxurious if you put an elegant, small table in it, and on it a vase with flowers or a framed photograph.

Moreover, such a design solution will not only make the corner beautiful, but also functional, because you can leave your gadget or an unfinished book on the table.

And if a table with drawers, then this is just a godsend, because all sorts of little things can be stored in the drawers, like a bunch of keys.

Armchair

Turn an ordinary corner into a pleasant place to relax if you put an armchair in it. However, this will require a high chair or hang a mirror on the wall above the back, so as not to disturb the proportions.

Photo of corner decor options

The outer corners of the walls are the most vulnerable to damage, especially if there are small children or animals. After all, plaster mixes are not strong and it is enough to slightly touch the corner with a small object to damage it. As a result, if the corner is covered with wallpaper, then dents are formed, and if it is painted with paint, then jags. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen the outer corners with special corners when renovating an apartment.

Corners are plastic PVC (pictured on the left) and metal. Metal corners are installed during the repair of walls before leveling and puttying and are not externally visible at the end of the repair. Plastic corners are installed after wallpapering or painting the walls. Plastic comes in different colors and you can choose a corner to match the color of the wallpaper or the color of the walls. Plastic corners can be installed at any time, for example, if the outer corner has lost its appearance as a result of damage or gets dirty with dirt.

With a metal corner profile

Protection of external corners with a metal corner profile is preferable, since after the repair of the room, the corner profile is not visible and, most importantly, the problem of aligning the corners and walls extending from the corner is solved.

The length of a standard corner profile is three meters, therefore, before installing it, you need to measure the length of the corner with a tape measure and cut off the excess part of the profile.

Since the angle profile is made of thin steel, it is well cut with metal scissors. The sides of the corner are trimmed towards each other, and the uncut part is easily broken by several bends.

If the corners of the walls are straight (if the walls are lined with gypsum plasterboards), then the easiest way is to fix the profile corner using small nails, as shown in the photo. If it is not possible to hammer nails into the corner or it is uneven, then you need to apply a small amount of gypsum, alabaster or rotband on it at a distance of no more than 50 cm from each other, and while the solution has not frozen, attach the profile corner to the corner to be leveled.

To securely fix the profile corner on the wall, if there is a gap between its sides and the wall, it is necessary to fill these gaps with a leveling mixture with a spatula before leveling or plastering the walls.

Such a measure will prevent the corner from bending when leveling the walls and will ensure that the corner is securely fixed as a beacon.

After the solution that fixes the profile corner hardens, you can proceed to further finishing the adjacent walls. In the photo you can see how the corner is hidden by a rotband in the wall surface extending from it.

The use of a profile corner will allow not only to reliably protect the corners from destruction, but also to make almost perfectly even outer corners. I protected and leveled all six outer corners in the hallway during its renovation with a corner profile.

With plastic corners

PVC plastic corners are used to protect or decorate painted, wallpaper-pasted or decorative coated external walls. But this is not limited to their use. With success, PVC corners can be used for decorative finishing of window and door slopes, design of panel joints and in many other cases. The corners are produced in different colors and even transparent. They are from 10 mm to 100 mm wide, 1.5, 2.3 and 3.0 meters long. There are also arc-shaped corners specially designed for installation on corners in arches.

Plastic corners are usually fixed with liquid nails, but there are corners with an adhesive layer applied on the inside, protected with anti-adhesive paper.

It should be noted that plastic corners can only be glued to fairly even corners, otherwise the gaps formed between the side of the corner and the wall can only worsen the appearance. Therefore, before deciding whether to protect the corner with a plastic corner, you need to determine if gaps will appear. To do this, you need to attach a long building ruler or a flat board to the corner. The PVC corner is quite elastic and if the non-linearity of the wall corner is smooth, then the gap will not appear.

I used a PVC plastic corner for decorative design and protection from destruction of the corners formed by the wall and the slopes of the entrance door. The corner was chosen 10 mm wide in white, as the slopes were painted with white water-based paint and the walls were in the color of coffee with milk. What came out of this can be seen in the photo.

Since the angle formed by the slope of the doors and the wall was not straight, it was difficult to use a ruler to mark the PVC corner. Therefore, the marking was done by applying a corner to the place of the future installation and marking the cutting points with a marker.

The thickness of the plastic corner is only 1 mm, therefore, by pressing it against the corner of the repair table, it is easy to saw the corner with a jigsaw. A hacksaw for metal is also suitable. In order for the end to be smooth, after sawing it, you need to walk over it with fine-grained sandpaper fixed to a wooden block.

It is best to use liquid nails to secure the corner. When buying liquid nails, you need to make sure that they are intended, including for gluing PVC materials. If liquid nails are of high quality, then it is almost impossible to tear them off the corner after drying. I used liquid nails, the packaging of which you see in the photo.

For reliable fixing, it is enough to apply small portions of liquid nails at a distance of 15-20 cm along the entire length of the corner, as in the photo. Next, the corner is applied to the planned place, pressed and held for the time specified in the instructions for a specific brand of liquid nails. Typically, the tack time is a few minutes, and it will take 24 hours to completely dry.

Next, a horizontal corner is marked, cut to size and applied for fitting. If a wedge-shaped gap is formed between the corners, then with the help of sandpaper fixed on a wooden block, the butt is trimmed to the required size. It is better to make the horizontal corner a millimeter longer than it turned out when fitting. In this case, if you made a mistake, then there will be a possibility of fitting.

Adjusting the vertical corners of the door slopes is easier, since their lower end is always covered with a floor plinth. Therefore, there is always the possibility of precise adjustment of the contacting ends of the corners.

If high strength is not required, the outer corners of the walls can be protected with decorative MDF corners covered with decorative plastic foil. With the help of this material, the doors and the facade of the kitchen are now being made. The corners are easy to handle, allowing outside corners to be protected from 90 ° to 180 °. The assortment of MDF corners is represented by a large selection of colors and patterns, which allows you to choose them to match the color of the wallpaper or the color of the walls. Protected by such a corner, the outer corners have a beautiful appearance. You can fix them at the corners with any liquid nails. I used this type of corner to decorate a large mirror mounted directly on the wall.

Angles play a bigger role in the interior than it might seem at first glance. It is enough to look at their uneven or "worn" surfaces to make it immediately clear: no one can call such a finish neat. Decorative corners on the corners of walls, slopes of door and window openings began to be used everywhere for repairs only in recent years. Until then, the materials used to cover the joints simply changed more often than the rest of the finish.

You can appreciate the transformative effect of a decorative element even in an empty room without furniture. By the type of location, they are classified into two types:

Also, the elements are classified into those that are imposed on the outer sides of the corners and those that are inserted into the inner ones. The latter can have semicircular shapes that "soften" the finish. You can make a corner with your own hands, or purchase it in a specialized store. Products are made mainly from plastic, MDF, but there are also more durable metal, stone options. Polyurethane effectively imitates various natural materials: wood, marble, sandstone, brick. Plastic corners are used not only as a decor, but also as a durable finishing element that will “outlive” wallpaper or other less durable wall surface coating. There is also a "mystical" component to the question. According to Feng Shui, the places of "joints" of the walls are considered to be energetic kinks, which create an imbalance and negatively affect the perception of the situation, therefore, their edges are decorated with corners, "smoothing out" the sharpness.

What are decorative corners for?

The corners most often "touch" people passing by with their shoulders, elbows and carried objects. Accordingly, it is this part of the wall that is erased and scratched more than the rest. To protect the joint from mechanical stress, a decorative corner is attached to it - a special type of finishing materials, a special "overlay". It has two functions:

  • Beautifying decoration;
  • Protect the "sensitive" place.

In addition, finishes with these elements look neater and the interior feels complete. With the help of the material of execution, color and size, you can emphasize the features of the style used in the design of the room.

When applied

The corner part of the wall is covered with decorative elements in several cases:

  • If the corner has visually noticeable defects: curvature, "dimples" or protrusions that have not been corrected with plaster;
  • When a protruding part is in the way or is located near a "pedestrian" area. Accordingly, it will be constantly touched, erased, scratched. Over time, mechanical damage will become noticeable and negatively affect the sensitive wall decoration and its appearance;
  • If the interior does not look complete without them;
  • To prevent destruction of the outer corner of the building and to give the exterior a neat look.

The installation of the elements usually completes the renovation: they literally become the finishing touch in the design.

Size of plastic corners

The standard range of sizes of PVC corners starts from 10x10 mm and ends with 50x50 mm. A gradation with a difference of 5 mm is used between them. Details of non-traditional sizes are made to order. An angle of 90 degrees is observed between the two guides of the decorative element, at which all planes of the apartment must intersect. If you got housing with "curved" walls, then you need to make the appropriate measurements and contact the master with a request to make individual parts.

Types of decorative corners on the walls

Corners are versatile finishing elements. They are applied in bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms, balconies, offices and living rooms. Decorating is carried out using several types of elements:

  • Arched, for plasterboard partitions;
  • For ceramic tiles. This category also includes profile strips for the bathroom;
  • Corners made of natural and artificial stone;
  • Options made of wood;
  • Special guides for siding (exterior design);
  • Corners for ceiling and floor joints;
  • Textured options;
  • For outside and inside corners;
  • Corners for door and window openings.

Each of the types is combined with a specific wall decoration and organically merges into specific styles. Corners decorate not only walls, but also fireplaces, stoves, furniture, "boxes" for masking communications and pipes.

Arched

Arched corners are used under plaster or glued on top of an already finished surface. "Inner" elements ensure straight lines. The corners for semicircular partitions are characterized by increased flexibility, which allows them to bend tightly to the curved surfaces of the base. If the decorative wall has a strict rectangular or square shape, then decorative elements can be selected from standard plastic options designed for simple walls.

For ceramic tiles

Ceramic tiles are used to decorate walls and floors in kitchens and bathrooms. At the corners, the tile joints are tightly sealed, they do not allow water to pass through, but they collect dust, dirt and grease (in the cooking area). Also, it is these places that are usually used by bacteria and fungi to organize their "breeding ground". Microorganisms will not get under properly processed seams, but they can easily arrange a comfortable "home" on their surface. When cleaning tiles, it is advised to pay special attention to these areas. The overlay of the corners allows to reduce the scope of work and to make the place of convergence of the walls reliably protected from the adhesion of dirt particles. In addition, the decorative element will competently mask uneven tile cuts, and options contrasting with the color of the tile will add chic to the room. The corners are divided into two types:

  • Internal. They are used to decorate joints between walls and ceilings, floors, shower cabins, that is, "depressed" corners. Usually have a convex or concave shape (fillet);
  • Outdoor. Used when machining protrusions.

Popular plastic for decorating tiles is not used, since the main coating can compete with polyurethane in terms of durability and strength. We need all the finishing elements to “age” approximately the same, otherwise, due to the worn-out corner, the tiles will have to be “disturbed” once again. Metal and ceramics are used to decorate tiled surfaces.

There are so-called "tape" corners. They are made of flexible plastic, produced in "bobbins", are highly flexible and can be easily replaced if necessary. This option is ideal for quick repairs.

For outside and inside corners

Separately, the elements are classified into external and internal. The former are used to decorate protruding joints of surfaces. The latter are used less often in "concave" corners. The latter are not so badly in need of protection, so the overlays are needed only to decorate the finish. The inner corners are usually semicircular, concave or convex.

Textured corners

Textured variants vary in color and pattern. They are usually made of plastic. Often the corners imitate some specific material: bricks, marble or granite surfaces, porous stone, wood (wenge, cork, oak, cherry). A variety of shades allows you to choose a contrasting or background option for a particular interior.

Wooden

Wood corners are usually made of thin MDF boards, bamboo, cork or veneer. In terms of lightness, materials are not inferior to plastic. MDF is flexible, and a decorative layer with a protective film against damage is applied to the surface of the pressed sawdust. In veneer versions, the element is made from thin wood cuts, that is, it is more natural and has a natural pattern. Solid wood corners are denser. When glued to the surface, they will protrude slightly on it.

It is not recommended to use natural wood in bathrooms and kitchens. Before attaching the material, it should be covered with a layer of varnish. Wooden elements are most often made independently. Unfortunately, a cracked corner can deform, and crack from a strong impact. The natural beauty of the decorated surface will have to "pay" for a lower service life.

Corners for ceilings and skirting boards

Ceiling and floor skirting boards at the junction of individual modules have a very unsightly appearance. No matter how carefully the sections are processed, they will slightly shake the aesthetic picture of the interior. Decorative corners are used to disguise them. In appearance, they differ from the wall options: they look like small overlays, which are designed to decorate a small area. For ceiling plinths with stucco molding in classical styles, special corners with monograms are acquired, repeating each bend of the connected straight lines. On ceilings, the use of elements is not mandatory, which can not be said about floors. Here the skirting boards are in constant contact with the feet of guests and household members. Their "joints" can loosen, fray and become completely unusable. The corners will save the skirting boards from rapid wear.

In design compositions, the lower decorative elements sometimes overlap with the upper ones. This solution ensures the integrity of the composition, therefore, ceiling and floor skirting boards often have the same shape, respectively, and the corners for their decoration are selected identical.

Natural stone corners

Decorative elements made of natural stone are usually used to decorate the facades of houses. Due to the strength of the material, they serve as excellent protection against building collapse. However, with the popularization of the industrial loft, brick and masonry have become an organic addition not only to the exterior, but also to the interior of the house. Such corners will necessarily slightly "protrude" above the surface. Choose flat stones that will provide a neat look to the entire structure. They are fastened with cement mortar, that is, the corner will be monumental and set for ten years. Elements are combined with plasterboard walls, embossed plaster and wooden clapboard.

Artificial stone corners

Artificial stone corners are considered cheaper and more practical options. As a rule, the imitation is made of plastic. It repeats not only the color, but also the "rough" texture of the surface. PVC is flexible, often goes beyond the "boundaries" of the corner and creeps onto the wall itself. This solution is used in order to create the illusion of a natural setting, because real masonry usually does not fit the ruler. Combine the corner with wallpaper and the same plastic panels.
It's important to know. The most budgetary imitation of stone at the corners is considered to be dense wallpaper. Curly pieces are cut out of them along the contours of the pebbles and glued to the joint. Such an element will not protect the surface from scratches and damage, but it will cope with a decorative task.

Variants of using the corner profile for finishing corners

The corner profile is used to decorate the following elements:

  • "Natural" joints between walls, which are in the vertical plane;
  • Door and window slopes;
  • Places of "convergence" of ceilings, floors and walls in horizontal planes with a concave shape;
  • The corners of decorative partitions, including arched openings;
  • Joints between shower cabins, fireplaces and other "monumental" (not involving movement) interior objects and walls, floors.

A decorative element can "smooth" any "seam" at the junction of finishing materials. If earlier it was necessary to carefully process the sections so that they retain a beautiful aesthetic appearance, now they are allowed to have irregularities and chips that will mask the corner.

Finishing the slopes of doors and windows

Double-glazed windows usually have special corners in the kit, which complete the installation of the window. Door kits also often include door frames and platbands. If the corners remain without additional protection, then you will have to pick and glue it yourself. The element will protect the slopes from damage and smooth the junction of two different materials. For example, the end of the wallpaper will eventually wear off and peel off. No matter how smoothly you cut the finishing material on the slope, it will look untidy without additional coverage. In doorways, the slopes can be scratched by furniture that is carried through them.

The best option would be to use PVC corners. It is easy to replace if necessary, and the surface texture can mimic any natural materials. By choosing a special shade, you can create an illusory transition between the wallpaper color and the window frame or doorway. Less commonly, veneer or bamboo corners are used.

Arched doorways

Arched openings, as a rule, have one of the classic shapes: with a semicircle on top. Not every material can repeat its contours. For example, solid wood corners can only be used to decorate straight lines. Smooth transitions are decorated with elements of flexible plastic, MDF, veneer or bamboo. All of the above options will easily repeat the contours of the arch, and complete the design of the doorway.

How to stick a plastic corner yourself

In addition to decorative corners, you will also need a bonding composition. For narrow elements, it is not recommended to use glue, the excess of which cannot be removed from the surface without leaving a trace. Before carrying out the procedure, the joint must first be cleaned of dirt and remnants of wallpaper or protruding pieces of finishing material. No corners will save an unnecessarily uneven and bumpy surface. Then the wall is measured. Measurements are accurately transferred to a piece of the corner. It is better to cut the material with a hacksaw with fine teeth. Do not forget about the joints between the corners themselves (in doorways, windows): two straight lines should end with cuts at an angle of 45 degrees. The "seamy" side of the prepared material is smeared with glue and applied to the wall. Hands tightly press the corner to the surface and hold until the bonding compound "grabs"

Conclusion

There is another type of decorative corners that adorn furniture (sofas, wardrobes, beds, cabinets). It is used, as a rule, to protect the joints of MDF or chipboard boards, which are especially sensitive to damage and begin to crumble over time. Special silicone corners save the little fingers of the household from constant blows against these surfaces. In interior decoration, the use of these elements is usually completed by the repair. Their installation is akin to the finishing touches of the brush on an almost finished canvas, when the artist, moving away from the easel, evaluates his creation with a critical eye and touches up individual areas to make the composition complete. Decorative corners have become an indispensable element in the design of the room, which emphasizes its neatness and beauty.

The rational organization of space implies well-thought-out functionality and decor of the corners in the apartment. But in any house there are not only internal and external corners, which must be properly protected from mechanical stress and destruction. In a small apartment with a typical layout, it is important to think over the arrangement of all corners so that every square meter is endowed with useful functionality.

Great idea to save space

Here is such a collage of paintings can be made in an apartment.

It seems to many that a few centimeters on either side of the corner is a completely useless space, but this is not so. It all depends on how they are used, the functionality of the usable area - and they carry out the decoration of the corners in the apartment.

Personal space is something that is sorely lacking in a cramped apartment with numerous household members. Sometimes there is nowhere to retire to distract from obsessive thoughts after work to listen to good music on headphones. For this, not much is needed - a comfortable chair in the corner, which can be separated by a movable screen or curtain, but this is not necessary. There are options for what it will be comfortable to sit on:

  • bag chair;
  • recliner;
  • folding couch;
  • computer chair;
  • soft chair with armrests;
  • classic or folding chair-bed;
  • chaise longue or spinoshi (in the summer they are taken to the country).

A cozy place in the corner is suitable for communication in social networks (behind a laptop or tablet), it is advisable to have a lighting device nearby. There may be a landline phone here, but to communicate on a mobile, you will want to come to this chair when you hear a call. Such a corner can be equipped in any room, even in the corridor, but be sure to think over the lighting.

A small shelf can hold many essentials, including tea and a sandwich and a charger, if you have a power outlet in the corner or a carrier. Such a corner for solitude can be occupied in turn, but it can be someone's real personal space. Even if the furniture is slightly outside the corner, the way of application will not change.

A work area is also an important functionality, especially when you have to zone a one-room apartment. The equipment and furnishings of the mini-office vary in purpose:

It is advisable that he does not go beyond his place, then the decor of the corner of the wall is not needed, they will be replaced by exhibits. If furniture is not planned, your handicrafts can be displayed in frames on the walls of the corner.

The mini-library in the corner is a great use for small empty spaces. If it seems to someone that in the age of computer technology books have disappeared into oblivion, they are mistaken. In many homes, books are still valued, read, and carefully stored on shelves. They need shelves, a rack or stands, not necessarily an angular shape, depending on how to decorate the corners of the walls in an apartment with a mini-library.

You can also place a cage with parrots, chinchilla, squirrel or other rodent here. A bed for a cat or a dog - the lower "floor" of the home mini-menagerie.

Flexible stone is perfect for decorating corners

Decorative stone is great for wall decoration

With a shortage of "square meters", the corners should not be empty. They are furnished in functionality, and the decor of the corners and walls in a 1-room apartment or living room follows the general design. Keep in mind that even compact sofas are:

  • straight and angular (under the right and left corner);
  • with transformation and without layout;
  • sliding forward and sideways;
  • modular (from separate blocks) and island (located in the center of the room).

In a small corner, they can be placed not only close to the wall, but placed diagonally. Folding models should stand so that there is room for the original position and in the unfolded form, plus space for passage.

The rest of the space can be occupied by any compact furniture. The best corner version of a computer desk is combined with a rack up to the ceiling; a lot of necessary little things will fit on its shelves.

Experts say that the appetite is caused by yellow, orange and red decor, as well as some shades of green. The subconscious mind passively perceives brown, purple, black and blue food, as well as food served on metal dishes.

Methods for decorating the corners and walls in the bedroom depend on the main furniture - a bed and a wardrobe (wardrobe, dressing room). A small space in the corner by the bed should be equipped with a comfortable plane:

Finishing corners in an apartment should be used in cases where small children or animals are kept in the family. Since plaster finishing mixtures do not have great strength, they are destroyed by light exposure to them.

Outside corners are especially prone to destruction. Papered corners are often dented, and painted corners jagged.

To protect the corners, the use of special devices and techniques is required to protect the corners from destruction.

Immediately, we note that the process of finishing the corners in an apartment is a difficult and crucial stage. It is much easier to get a smooth surface than to align the corners. Next, we will consider ways to protect the corners of the walls in the apartment and house from damage.

When do you need to finish corners?

Finishing of corners in an apartment is advisable in cases of installation in the corners of rectangular furniture. Aligning the corners eliminates distortions, allows you to harmoniously place rectangular furniture.

In case of large distortions, you should not resort to leveling the corners, since when leveling, the useful area of the room decreases, but it is possible to beat it with a stone.

Which material is best for corner protection

In any room, the corners are divided into internal and external.
And if it is difficult to get to the inner corners, then the outer corners suffer more often, and not only from careless carrying of heavy household appliances or furniture.
Animals scratch the corners, and they often block the way for children.
For finishing corners, plastic, metal, polystyrene foam, wooden corners, special galvanized metal profiles, decorative stone are most often used.
Plastic corners have a wide range of colors. They have increased softness, varying degrees of roughness.

To the question: "How to decorate the corners of the walls in the apartment?", The article below will answer the best of all.

Consider all the materials and fixtures used to protect the corners of the walls.
Materials are understood as the use of drywall, and as devices, the use of metal, wood, expanded polystyrene corners, PVC corners.

The alignment of corners is one of the most difficult stages of finishing a room, requiring theoretical knowledge, a lot of practical experience.

Wall corners are protected by installing special devices. As a protection for the corners of the walls, corners of different materials are most often used.

Most often, PVC corners are installed as corner protection.

Plastic corners should be installed after all finishing work has been completed.

Plastic corners are installed on the walls using assembly glue for plastic products.

Plastic corners are produced in lengths of 2.5 m. The width of corners is different, from narrow to wide.

To correctly select the corners in width, you should measure the curvature of the corner.

With a large curvature, it is preferable to choose corners of a larger width.

Narrow corners are applied at almost even corners

How to properly attach plastic corners to wall corners?

Option 1

    1. 1. With the help of the building angle, you need to measure the deviations of the angle.
      2. Knead the solution from the dry putty mixture to the desired consistency.
      3. Apply the mortar with an ordinary spatula, level it with a corner, giving the corner a rectangular appearance.
      4.After the corner is completely dry, attach the plastic perforated corner and close it with a finishing putty.
      5. When the layer is completely dry, sand the surface with an abrasive mesh.

Option 2

The most common and inexpensive way is to use plastic corners of various sizes and colors. when choosing, pay attention to the correct angle, the fit to the wall depends on it.

Types and sizes of PVC corners
    1. 1.Plastic corners are installed on a previously prepared surface. If necessary, remove the old wallpaper with a knife on the drywall, clean the surface of the old paint.
      2. On the inner surface of the corner, apply glue with a step of 30 ... 50 mm. The glue is applied in dotted lines.
      3. When the glue reaches the desired viscosity (indicated in the instructions for the glue), attach a plastic corner to the corner to be protected and fix it on top with masking tape.
      4. In place of liquid nails, it is possible to use colorless silicone.

These options for protecting wall corners are also suitable when using metal profile corners.

If you want not only to protect the corners, but also to decorate the corners in the apartment, use wooden or expanded polystyrene corners.

Styrofoam corners
Expanded polystyrene is a non-combustible material.

The corners made of polystyrene foam do not absorb moisture, dirt does not adhere to them. Polystyrene corners can be used in rooms with any temperature regime.

The surface of the polystyrene corners is paintable. The corner profile is created by pressing and produced in various shapes.

Finishing the outer corners in the apartment with the help of expanded polystyrene corners is justified in those rooms where there is a small permeability of residents.

Decorative corners made of expanded polystyrene allow not only to protect corners, but also to decorate corners.

Fastening is possible both with special glue and with ordinary acrylic sealant.

Wooden corners
The main advantages of wooden corners are:

  • attractive appearance;
  • environmental friendliness;
  • the ability to create carvings or decoration.

Wooden corners are an indispensable material for decorating corners in an apartment.
It is not the best option to use wooden corners in rooms with high humidity;

Stone as a means of decoration
Recently, it has become fashionable to use stone for interior decoration. The decorative design with a stone looks especially organic when protecting the outer corners.

The use of stone is especially appropriate when the outer corners have large deviations from the geometric shape. There is no need to align walls and corners.

Let's note right away! Better to use a decorative stone. It is also lighter than natural. And the presence of a smooth surface greatly facilitates maintenance.

The stone is fixed with a special solution or tile glue.

Step 1

For laying decorative stone, the surface should be prepared,
clean from dirt, dust, old coating and
If the surface is very dry, or you work at a temperature of + 30C and above, it must be moistened.
This is necessary for better penetration of the glue into the depth of the prepared surface.

Step 2
The glue is diluted according to the attached instructions in quantities that you can use during the work. The properties of the glue are maintained for 2 hours.

Step 3
It is best to prepare glue in a plastic container using a drill with a mixer attachment. After mixing, the glue is kept for several minutes and mixed thoroughly.

Step 4
The mortar is applied to the back of the stone with a spatula, the edges of the tile are coated with mortar. Several mortar cakes are applied to the wall surface and a stone is applied.

Step 5
The stone is pressed against the surface with force, it is checked with a plumb line and the level of the correctness of its installation.

Step 6
After placing the stone in three rows, stop the work. The glue hardens completely after two hours. This will allow the next 3 rows to continue.

Failure to comply with the requirements of step 6 will lead to the collapse of the structure under its own weight.

Drywall when finishing corners
The use of gypsum plasterboard sheets allows you to align any, most curved corners.
There are two ways to mount drywall sheets: frameless, frame.

Method 1
Frameless installation of plasterboard sheets is used on both internal and external corners:

  • surface preparation is in progress;
  • a drywall sheet is applied to the surface and marked;
  • on the other side of the corner, a sheet is also applied and marked;
  • blanks are cut out with a knife and the cuts of the mating corners of the drywall are made with a plane;
  • prepared blanks of plasterboard sheets are again applied to the corner and adjusted;
  • polyurethane foam is applied to the sheets;
  • both blanks are applied to the wall and pressed against;
  • sheets are removed, leaving traces of polyurethane foam on the wall;
  • polyurethane foam is reapplied to the sheets;
  • the foam should be allowed to dry out a little and the sheets should be put in place;
  • it will remain to correct the angle using a wooden batten or a building level.

Method 2
The frame method is recommended for use in cases of significant curvature of the surface.
This method is more laborious, but it can significantly improve sound and heat insulation:

  • it is necessary to measure the value of the angle deviation;
  • install the frame using galvanized metal profiles, securing them with dowels, self-tapping screws;
  • a plasterboard sheet is installed on the frame and fastened with self-tapping screws;
  • the resulting surface is putty, polished;
  • the corner is protected by a perforated mesh.

Output:

  • the proposed methods of finishing external corners can be combined not only in one apartment, but also in one room;
  • the simplicity of finishing the corners with plasterboard requires additional costs;
  • the most expensive material for the protection and design of corners is an artificial stone;
  • finishing the corners in the apartment with corners allows you to give the room not only a complete look, but also to protect the corners from damage.
