For his home, a believer chooses icons on his own, listening only to the voice of his heart, only it decides to which Saint to direct daily prayers. But when choosing icons, you should make sure that they correspond to the manner of execution and style of the room. The article will tell you how to do it yourself.

The veneration of icons is the worship of the prototype. Looking at the icon, a person sees in it the Savior Himself, the Mother of God or the saints.

These sacred images should be given the appropriate reverence for the shrine. In the church, Orthodox people lay candles, icon lamps, kiss sacred images in front of icons.

When worshiping in front of the icons:

  • Frankincense or incense is smoked.
  • They pray.
  • Prayers are being sung.
  • Religious processions are performed with them.

In the home of an Orthodox Christian, there should be an appropriate attitude towards icons.

The place where the images are located is called:

  • Red corner.
  • Front corner.
  • Holy corner.
  • Kyoto.
  • Goddess.
  • By the nod.

In the house, first of all, you should have such icons as:

  • Savior.
  • Mother of God.

  1. "The Appearance of Christ to the People";
  2. "Sistine Madonna".

Advice: It is not allowed to see photos of priests, monks, elders, people who lead a righteous life among the icons.

  • A measured icon, the height of which corresponds to the height of the child at birth.
  • Personal.

  • Guardian angel.

The icon must be present without fail. The price of the image is low, and the result is the spiritual education of the child.

All these icons can be combined in one, which is called Jesus Christ the King of Glory.

  • Only the Crucifixion or the icon of the Holy Trinity can be placed above the composition of images.
  • Archangel Gabriel is located near the face of John the Baptist. And near the image of the Mother of God is the Archangel Michael.

Intimacy between spouses is not considered a sin, so you can safely place the holy scriptures in the bedroom. But you should know that images are placed only at the head of the bed. The video in this article will show you how to do this.

If the bedroom of a couple who is not married, this is considered a sin that cannot be hidden from God even without placing icons in the room. God is omnipresent, he always sees everything, and not through images. You can safely place images of saints in the bedroom and pray!

The seven-arrow icon depicts the Mother of God, at which seven arrows or swords are directed. Sometimes they are located three on the right and left and one below, sometimes three on one side, four on the other. In another way, the shrine is called "Simeon's prophecy", or "Softening of evil hearts."

The seven-arrow icon is one of the most revered images of the Virgin Mary in Orthodoxy. There are different beliefs about her. For example, it is believed that the icon should be hung above the front door or opposite it. They say that then the shrine will protect the house from thieves and ill-wishers.

Questions about where to hang the seven-arrow icon in the house can be heard either from people who have just converted to the Christian faith, or from those who do not understand the essence of the images of saints. We need to figure out what the Mother of God, shown with arrows pointing at her, means. It is important to understand what an icon is in general.

Icon is not an idol

Due to illiteracy, many believe that the icon is a kind of talisman, which in itself thinks, protects, punishes, and requires worship. Christians were “infected” with such understandings even before the baptism of Rus, when the pagan faith prevailed throughout the entire territory.

The Lord said: "Do not make yourself an idol." For many, icons are idols that they turn to as a remedy for all misfortunes.

Images of saints are not talismans. By themselves, the images do not mean anything, they only show us the appearance of this or that saint. In prayer, we turn not to the icon, but to the one who is depicted on it, so that he interceded for us before the Lord.

Also, the image will not save you from this or that problem. They say that Seven-shot will soften an evil heart, relieve sinful thoughts. In fact, it will only serve as a reminder to fight bad thoughts. Seeing the icon and understanding its symbolism, a person can really get rid of anger, envy, despondency, remembering that this is a sin. But there is no need to wait for the image to do something for you. God is ready to help everyone, but how to help someone who does nothing?

The above does not negate the fact that icons need to be respected. They cannot be mixed with household items, posters, non-church calendars, or placed on bookshelves with secular literature. For a home iconostasis, you need to select a separate corner, in which there will only be images of saints, candles, the Book of Books and other Christian writings.

What does the seven-shot image mean?

One of the names of the icon is "Simeon's Prophecy". Simeon was the priest of the temple where the Virgin Mary brought the baby for baptism. It was this man who saw in Jesus the son of God. Then the Virgin Mary realized that her son was doomed to suffer during his earthly life. How many feelings will boil in a mother who will understand that her son will not have a happy, in the usual earthly interpretation, life? Such suffering is difficult to imagine.

The seven-arrow icon is interpreted in several ways:

  • Seven swords or arrows are like seven sinful feelings that threaten every soul. The Virgin Mary went through a huge number of trials in her life. She, like a mother, suffered with her son throughout her earthly life. But all the same, the Mother of God remained faithful to the Lord, coped with all the threats to her soul. Hence one of the names - "Softening of Evil Hearts", that is, deliverance from sinful thoughts and feelings.
  • The number seven in the Christian faith means abundance, fullness. Arrows or swords symbolize suffering. The image reminds of the sufferings suffered by the Mother of God during her lifetime. Having seen the shrine, a Christian should think: “Are my problems really that bad? Is it really worse than with me, nothing could happen? "

The value of an icon is in what it symbolizes. Of course, there are miraculous images. These are icons, which the saints depicted on them watch especially, respond more quickly to prayers uttered in front of them. But the most important factor is the sincerity of prayer and true faith in God.

Where is the best place to hang an icon?

The place of Seven Arrows, like any other image of the Virgin Mary, is on the home iconostasis, near the icon of the Savior. You can hang it over the door, in the baby's room, or anywhere else if the shower requires it. If the Mother of God protects the house, watches over it, then she will be able to protect it even if there is not a single icon of it in the dwelling. And if the purchase of an image of a saint is the only thing that has been done on the spiritual path, it will not help.

Prayers help to survive grief, illness. After the era of communism, centuries-old knowledge was largely lost by people, and now those who have returned to the faith need knowledge. The images of saints are intended not only to decorate the home, their purpose is to protect and protect. To do this, you need to know where the icons should be in the apartment.

What are icons in the house for?

In the frantic pace of modern life, not everyone has time to attend church services every day, or even every week. In defense and help of the Lord man needs every minute. This is possible due to the correct placement of the home prayer iconostasis. How to arrange the icons correctly is more important than their number.

Image size also doesn't matter. For a deeply religious person, the faces of the saints are the material embodiment of the Divine image. Icons are very different from photographs and portraits. They reflect serenity, serenity, kindness, compassion, purity to every stroke.

The faces of the saints in the home iconostasis

The icon is a window into house of god, and the goddess is the place where the day of the true believer begins and ends. In the home of an Orthodox Christian, there must be an icon of Jesus Christ and a prayer cross. The rest of the images are selected based on personal needs and desires.

How to choose the right place for red corner in an apartment in order to preserve the aura and tune in to prayer - the necessary information for every believer. If the layout allows, then it is advisable to highlight the southeast corner in the room, access should be free and not cluttered. It is customary to pray facing the rising sun. It is important to know how to properly hang icons in an apartment, observing the accepted hierarchy:

  1. There should always be an icon of the Savior in the center. Above it can only be the cross and the Holy Trinity (Father and Son and Holy Spirit).
  2. On the right, it is required to place the face of the Most Holy Theotokos, then place her other images a little to the side.
  3. On the left is the obligatory holy image of John the Baptist.

Particular attention is paid to. It is believed that if you hang it over front door, then she will protect from bad intentions entering the house, protect from quarrels and scandals. And opposite the entrance, you need to place the Holy Trinity in order to clear the unkind thoughts of the guest.

The iconostasis can be made from one shelf, side table or simply hang on the wall. It is allowed to decorate the holy corner with fresh flowers, towels, candles and lamps. And it is also advisable to put each face on a festive napkin. First of all, it should be remembered that the most important thing in prayer is its sincerity and faith in God. It is important not only to decorate the interior of the "front corner" beautifully.

Shelf with holy images in the kitchen

It is useful to place faces of saints in the kitchen... Prayer before eating should be an integral part of life. Gratitude for food and welfare to the Lord God is natural for a Christian. Care should be taken that dirt and kitchen grease do not get on the icon; it is better to remove it behind glass in a cabinet or put it on a shelf on the wall opposite the stove. You can place an image of the Last Supper to match the theme.

Guardian angel in the children's room

When there are many children in a family or one - this is always joy and blessing... The icon of the Mother of God at the head of the baby's bed in the bedroom will protect his sleep and calm him down. The face of the guardian angel, whose name a person was named after at baptism, will always help in life. Depending on the gender and age of the child, the following images are suitable:

  1. For a girl - or Matrona of Moscow. They help to find happiness, escape from loneliness and successfully get married.
  2. For the boy - the image of St. George the Victorious for protection and courage. The icon of Andrew the Primordial will teach you to be polite to elders, contributes to the development of the mind. The image of Alexander Nevsky will patronize athletes and the military.

How it is impossible to place the faces of saints

Do it right home iconostasis, remove unsuitable objects from the environment - this is what a true Christian should do. There are no canons prohibiting hanging an image of a saint in front of a mirror, but priests do not recommend doing this in order not to be distracted from prayer. To preserve the power of images, church leaders do not recommend:

The opinions of the ministers of the church about whether it is possible to sleep with their feet to the icon are different. But, in general, there is nothing wrong with this, if it was not done for the sake of blasphemy. This will only give an extra reason, looking at the face of the saint, to pray.

How many images are in the house does not matter as much as the order in which they are placed. The icon, prayed for for decades, passed down from generation to generation, is a real relic for the family. It must be taken care of and carefully cleaned of dust. Where the icons should be located in the house is a very serious question, and it should be approached carefully. Peace of mind the family largely depends on this. The holy image is not just a beautiful picture, it is the face of a person who once lived on earth and remained loyal to God. Every icon is designed to direct you on the right path, to tune your feelings to humility and prayer.

Orthodox believers often ask themselves the question - is it possible to hang icons over the front door? Of course, the canons of the Orthodox Church allow this to be done. But, here it is very important to understand that an icon is not a talisman that will protect your home from ill-wishers. The icon at the entrance to the house may be necessary so that everyone who sees it, remembers the name of God and can turn to the holy image with prayer, thank the higher powers for their help and ask for intercession. The icon is, first of all, your helper in order to tune in to prayer and turn to God or the saints, as well as revive the hope for God's help and the successful resolution of a particular request.
