Step-by-step instruction for making a rocket furnace:

  1. Three segments are cut from the profile pipe - two of them are 30 cm and one for a 35 cm for 35 cm. From the blank for a sun bed, the grinder is done by a rectangular hole for the fuel compartment and a semicircle for the vertical tube.
  2. One 30-centimeter blank is cut longitudinally and welded to the fuel compartment to create an air channel.

Important! Before proceeding to the furnace of a homemade rocket furnace, it is necessary to carefully check the quality of the connecting seams and the tightness of the structure. In a working installation, air masses should not be incontrolled.

How to turn the rocket?

To obtain a maximum heating effect before the main laying of the fuel material, the rocket-type furnace should be heathed thoroughly. For this purpose, flammable materials are used: paper, chips, dry chips, sawdust, cardboard, reed or straw, which are placed in an open subpend compartment.

  • The principle of afterburning pyrolysis gases isolated during fuel burning in insufficient oxygen supply mode.

In the simplest designs of rocket furnaces, which are used only for cooking, only the first principle of operation can act, as they are enough difficult to create the necessary conditions for the flow of pyrolysis and the organization of gases.

To sort out the designs and understand how they work, you need to consider some of them alternately.

The simplest design of the rocket stove

To begin with, it is worth considering the simplest device of a rocket combustion rocket furnace. As a rule, such devices are used only to heat water or for cooking, and exclusively outdoors. As can be seen from the figure below - these are two cuts of the pipe connected by a right corner.

A horizontal part of the pipe is equipped with a firebox for such a design of the furnace, and fuel is laid. Often, the furnace has a vertical load - in this case, three elements are used to manufacture the simplest stove - these are two pipes of different heights, installed vertically and connected to the overall horizontal channel. Lower pipe and will serve as a firebox. For the manufacture of a stationary version of the simplest according to the design scheme, it is often used, installed on the heat-resistant solution.


To achieve a higher efficiency, the furnace was improved, and it appeared additional elements, for example, the pipe began to install in the housing, which enhances the heating of the structure.

The furnace of the furnace occurs as follows. As a result of the intensive combustion process, hot gases are formed, rising along the vertical channel of the pipe and the outgoing outwards. An important condition for the intensity of combustion of fuel is the creation of a gap between the pipe and the installed container. If her hole is completely overlapped, then burning inside the design will stop, as there will be no thrust that provides the air of the combustion area and raises the heated gases upwards. So that there were no problems with it, a removable or stationary stand for the container is installed on the top cutting of the pipe.

This scheme presents a simple design, on the loading opening of which the door is installed. And to create thrust there is a special channel, which forms the lower wall of the coil chamber and welded at a distance of 7 ÷ 10 mm from it plate. Even with the complete closing of the door of the furnace, the air supply will not stop. In this scheme, the second principle is already beginning to work - without active access of oxygen to burning, the pyrolysis process can begin, and the continuous supply of the "secondary" air will contribute to the allocated gases. But for a fully, the process still lacks another important condition - high-quality thermal insulation of the secondary survival chamber, since the process of combustion of gases requires certain temperature conditions.

Improved rocket furnace design


The design, intended for cooking, and for heating the room, is equipped not only by the furnace door and a second case, which serves as a good external heat exchanger, but also the upper hob. Such a rocket stove can already be installed inside the premises of the house, and the chimney pipe from it is removed on the street. After carrying out such modernization of the furnace, its effectiveness grows significantly, since the device acquires a lot of useful properties:

  • Due to the second outer corps and insulation heat-resistant materials that thermally insulate the main pipe of the furnace (riser), hermetic closure of the upper part of the structure, the heated air saves a high temperature for significantly longer.

  • In the lower part of the case, a channel for feeding secondary air was mounted, with success, carrying out the necessary subdivination, for which an open furnace was used in the simplest design.
  • The chimney pipe in a closed design is located on top, as in a simple rocket furnace, but at the bottom rear of the case. Due to this, the heated air does not go directly into the chimney, and it is possible for circulation through the inner channels of the device, heating, first of all, the cooking panel, and then disperse inside the housing, ensuring it and its heating. In turn, the outer corps gives heat around its surrounding air.

In this scheme, the entire process of operation of the furnace is clearly visible: in the fuel bunker (pos. 1), there is a prevalence of fuel (pos. 2) in the mode of insufficiency of air supply "A" - this is regulated by the damper (pos. 3). Formed hot pyrolysis gases go to the end of the horizontal fire channel (pos. 5), where they are hurrying. This process passes due to good thermal insulation and the implementation of the continuous supply of the "secondary" air "b" on a specially prescribed channel (pos.4).

Further, hot air rushes to the inner tube of construction, called the Raiser (pos. 7), rises under it under the "ceiling" of the housing that is a hob (pos. 10), providing its high-temperature heating. Then the gas stream passes through the space between the riser and the external case-drum (pos. 6), ensuring the heating of the housing for further heat exchange with air indoor. Then the gases are lowered down and only after that go into the chimney tube (pos. 11).

To achieve maximum heat transfer from fuel and ensure the necessary conditions for the complete combustion of pyrolysis gases, it is important to maintain the highest possible and stable temperature in the register channel (pos. 7) for this pipe of the riser to enter the larger pipe of the larger diameter - the shell (pos. 8 ), and the space between them is tightly clogged by the heat-resistant mineral composition (pos. 9), which will serve as thermal insulation (peculiar lining). For these purposes, for example, a mixture of furnace masonry clay with chamoten sand is applied (in proportion 1: 1). Some masters prefer this space simply very tightly fill in sainted sand.


The design of this version of the rocket furnace consists of the following nodes and items:

  • Closed fuel cap with vertical fuel loading with a secondary air receiver located in its lower part.
  • The furnace passes into the horizontally located fire channel, at the end of which the pyrolysis gas is hurned.
  • A hot gas stream rises along the vertical channel (a zoomer) to a hermetically closed "ceiling" of the housing, where he gives part of the thermal energy by the horizontal plate - the hob. Then, under the pressure of more hot gases, which goes next to the heat exchange channels, giving heat to the surfaces of the drum, and lowers down.
  • At the bottom of the furnace there is an entrance to the pipe horizontal channels, running under the entire surface of the laying. Moreover, in this space, one, two or more turns of the corrugated pipe can be laid, in the form of a serpent, for which hot air circulates, heating the laying. This heat exchanged pipeline is connected at the end to the chimney pipe derived through the wall of the house outside.

  • It should be noted that in the case of the manufacture of bricks from the brick, the channels can also be laid out of this material, without the use of metal cortex.
  • Heated oven and laying, giving heat into the room, they themselves will serve as a kind of "battery", capable of measuring the area to 50 m².

The metal drum of the furnace can be made of a barrel, a gas cylinder or other durable tanks, and is also composed of bricks. Typically, the material is chosen by the masters themselves as it is financially possible and convenience of work.

A rocket furnace with a brick layer looks more accurately, and it is somewhat easier to install it than the clay option, but the cost of materials will be approximately the same.

What is needed for work?

The design of this stove with a vertical load is quite simple, reliableness and effective in operation, but only if its masonry is performed qualitatively, in full compliance with the friend.

This version of the stove will require costs for the purchase of chammed brick, the usual ceramic for a rocket furnace will not fit. The masonry is performed on a solution from chammed clay, this is also available. The easiest way to make a light hiking stove, depicted in the drawing, finding the following materials in the household:

  • pipe steel round with a diameter of 133-150 mm with a length of 0.5 m;
  • pipe profile section 14 x 20 cm, length 0.4 m;
  • metal sheet with a thickness of 2-3 mm on beats;
  • rod Ø8-10 mm for legs;
  • trimming iron on the stand.

The vertical round tube is welded to the profile at an angle of 45 °, then eyelashes for legs are attached to the housing (they should easily be removed).
