How to hang a plastic ceiling molding on a plasterboard base. How to fix the ceiling cornice

It is possible to significantly change the interior of the room without major repairs and changing furniture; it is enough to purchase new original curtains. You can hang them on the ceiling cornices, which are distinguished by a democratic price and decent appearance.

The advantages of ceiling cornices

Why are ceiling cornices good? They allow curtains to be fixed at ceiling level. This fabric placement is well suited for small apartments with a ceiling height of 2.60 meters. You do not need to think about the severity of the purchased curtains. An important advantage of ceiling cornices is their low price and high quality.

Views

The main difference between curtain rods is the material used for manufacturing. For this, manufacturers mainly use aluminum and plastic. Also, the cornices differ in the number of curtains placed on it. It ranges from 1 to 4 rows. This allows you to experiment and make any composition of curtains, tulles and lambrequins.

By their design, ceiling cornices are divided into three types:

  • tires without decoration with one, two or more stripes of directions;
  • tires with turns;
  • cornice decorated with a baguette overlay.

The standard length of the eaves is equal to the length of the window plus 40 cm. This will allow you to freely open it. When using curtains made of thick fabric, you can increase the length of the cornice.

If in your room two windows are located side by side, then the length of the cornice is equal to the width of the windows plus 30 cm.

Note! Windows will open without any problems if you place the cornice at a distance of 10-15 cm from the wall.

Simple assembly

There are models made of soft plastic - metal plates for all the holes that you must place in the grooves on the rear wall of the tire will help you to make the mount more reliable.

Then attach the curtain rod to the ceiling, insert the hooks and cover the corners with plugs.

If the ceiling in your room is made of plasterboard, then you should use special dowels-molly, dowels-butterfly. The design feature of such dowels provides for their wedging from the seamy side of the drywall. It should be borne in mind that the load on the dowels should be no more than 5 kg.

How to attach to a stretch ceiling

Cornices are attached to stretch ceilings as follows:

  1. Make a base from a bar that has the length and width of the cornice, and the thickness is a distance of several millimeters less from the stretching material to the ceiling slab.
  2. Fix the timber with dowels to the ceiling. Install rings on the material, into them you will screw in self-tapping screws when fixing the cornice.
  3. Stretch the material and install the curtain rod.

For a stretch ceiling, you can make a hidden location of the ceiling cornice. With this method, the stretch ceiling is fastened not from the wall of the room, but from a bar fixed to the ceiling. The cornice is attached to the ceiling with dowel-nails, behind the timber. Protective rings on the tensioning material are not required. The cornice itself is not visible visually, the curtains fall from the ceiling.

Note! In a room where a stretch ceiling has already been installed, the cornice must be attached to brackets installed on the walls.

Installation with glue

Modern technologies make it possible to do without drilling holes in the ceiling, which means that you do not need a hammer drill. How to fix the ceiling cornice in this case? Use liquid nails. They, according to manufacturers, can withstand a load of 80 kg / cm 2.

Before starting work, make preliminary preparations. The base needs to be cleaned. For a strong grip, remove old paint, whitewash or other finishing materials.

Carefully level and prime the surface. Check the base, it must be free of grease, dry and sturdy. Apply liquid nails with a snake to the cornice, then press it firmly against the ceiling.

If there is a need to adjust the cornice, slide it in the desired direction, but do not lift it off the ceiling. The glue sets in about 20 minutes, and its complete drying will occur in 2-3 days.

After reading the article, you should have a good idea of how to fix the ceiling cornice, using various methods, based on the specific situation. Having done everything correctly, following all the recommendations, you can easily install the ceiling cornice in any room.

Video

The installation procedure for the ceiling cornice can be seen below:

Good day to all. I have a small problem that I find it difficult to solve myself. Parents bought plastic curtain rods for ceiling curtains and ask me to help install them. But their ceiling is made of plasterboard. The workers who were doing the renovations warned that wall curtains had to be bought for the curtains.

Parents are elderly people, do not understand this, forgot and bought without consulting. What should we do - hand them back to the store, or are there any methods that allow us to securely attach to such an unreliable base?

Thank you for your reply. Pauline

Hello Polina. There are such ways, so do not rush to hand over your purchase if your parents like it.

Installation methods

There are two solutions to your problem, and the choice depends on how much plastic ceiling curtain rods are designed for. And we are not talking about the maximum load that they can withstand, but about the real weight of the curtains.

Another question is whether you can do this work with your own hands, and do you have the right tools.

Ceiling mount

In this way, plastic ceiling curtain rods can be installed, provided that the curtains are lightweight. For example, tulle and thin night curtains. It is not suitable for heavy curtains.

First, a quick installation guide:

  • See if your eaves have mounting holes through them. They should be located with a step of about 50-60 cm. If they are not there or the distance is greater, then the holes in the profile must be drilled.
  • If the ceiling plastic curtain rod is too long, cut off the excess with a hacksaw for metal.

  • Attach it to the ceiling exactly along the line of attachment, and through the mounting holes, place marks on the base with a pencil or marker.

Note. If pivoting elements are attached to the cornice, then when marking the attachment line, take into account their dimensions.

  • Drill holes for plastic dowels in the ceiling exactly according to the marks.
  • Insert the dowels into them until they stop.
  • Attach the cornice to the ceiling again, aligning the holes, and screw into each self-tapping screw.

Now comes the most important thing. For installation, you need not ordinary dowels, but the so-called "butterflies".

This is how they look:

It is not worth taking too large, 10x50 size is enough. 10 mm is the diameter, 50 mm is the length. The price is low - about one ruble per piece. Accordingly, for holes in the ceiling, you will need a screwdriver with a 10 mm drill.

Note. Self-tapping screws are purchased separately, their optimal size is 3.5x55 mm.

To insert the butterfly into the hole in the drywall, its "wings" must be squeezed with your fingers and pushed into it until the thrust washer touches the surface. When you screw a self-tapping screw into such a dowel, it will pull its shank to the inner plane, so that the “wings” will spread out and press against the drywall, providing a reliable fastening.

For reference. The permissible load for each such element is 16-24 kg. But do not risk hanging too heavy curtains on the plastic ceiling cornices.

Wall mount

If a large load on the plastic ceiling cornice is planned, installation on a plasterboard structure without specially made mortgages is not recommended. In this case, wall mounting is performed.

To do this, you need to buy these metal brackets:

Note. They come in different lengths. Choose taking into account the width of the profile and its removal from the wall.

It is better to choose this installation method even when there are active children or large pets in the house, which, inadvertently, can get entangled in the curtains, or pull them.

  • The brackets are attached to the walls with ordinary dowels, you can use the supplied ones. You will need a hammer drill to drill holes in concrete or brick.
  • The number of brackets depends on how long your plastic curtain rod is for curtains, as well as on the weight of the curtains. If they are not very heavy, you can take a step of 1-1.5 meters. If massive and multi-layered - 50 cm.
  • The brackets are attached to the plastic profile using special plates using the screws included in the kit.

How to attach

The order of work is the same, but with markings on the walls.

Conclusion

At first glance, such a simple task may turn out to be overwhelming for women's hands, especially in the absence of a suitable tool. If you do decide to tackle it, first watch the video for this post.

But the information presented here will not be superfluous. By inviting a master who will install plastic ceiling curtain rods for you, you can prepare all the necessary materials for him in advance.

When carrying out repairs, it is necessary to take into account every little thing, although more precisely it should be said that there are no little things here at all. And even such an insignificant issue as the fastening of the ceiling cornice should be given your attention. And most importantly, everything needs to be thought out even before the repair is carried out, and it will be clearly determined with the question of how to fix the ceiling cornice, since already at the final stages of the repair work, it may turn out that it is no longer possible to fix it.

Without fail, each window must have its own decorative frame, it is this that will give the room some individuality, and also increase the level of comfort. And it should be noted that regardless of the choice, blinds or any other element, in any case, you will need a cornice to fix it. And that is why, even at the design stage, it is necessary to think about the type of frame, the method of fastening and other factors.

The most common solution when choosing a curtain rod, the ceiling option attracts more consumers. This is due to the fact that it largely provides freedom of choice of window decoration elements.

Next, we will look at how to properly attach the ceiling cornice, as well as how to choose it. In addition, some non-standard solutions will be offered, for example, how to attach the ceiling cornice to the wall, since in reality sometimes there is no other choice.

How to choose the right ceiling cornice

So, to begin with, consider all the features of the choice of ceiling cornices. To do this, you need to figure out what these structures are in general, as well as what parameters you should pay attention to.

Classification of cornices

Let's start, perhaps, by considering the types of this type of systems. They are classified by the type of construction, as well as by the material of manufacture and the method of fastening.

Considering the designs of the cornices, you can clearly divide them into:

  • Baguette;
  • Round-rod;
  • Profile;
  • Special;
  • Strings.

The next classification is the material used, and depending on it, the designs can be:

  • Metallic;
  • Plastic;
  • Wooden;
  • Or combined.

Note that it is necessary to choose a cornice not only based on its appearance, but also to consider a number of parameters, such as the type of fastening, for example. And given the fact that usually the fastening itself is carried out directly to the structural elements, i.e. in the walls, or the ceiling, in particular directly to the floor slab, then the design must be chosen even before the external decoration of the room.

What parameters should be considered when choosing

So, before you start choosing a curtain rod, you need to familiarize yourself with some factors that must be taken into account. Initially, measurements should be taken, and the type of curtains will be determined, which will partially answer the question of how to attach the cornice to the ceiling. In addition, pay attention to the following factors to ensure that the necessary measurements are carried out correctly:

  • When opening the window, the cornice should not interfere with it, i.e. should be located slightly above the opening, the optimal distance is five centimeters.
  • The distance of the cornice from the wall should be such that the curtains do not come into contact with the walls, window sill, radiators and the window itself, as well as its handles.
  • The length of the eaves should be slightly larger than the window opening itself, so that the curtains can be fully pulled apart. In this case, a protrusion is usually provided on both sides of the opening at a distance of 30-40 centimeters. Depending on the width of the window, these indicators can be reduced or increased.

Also, before taking measurements directly, it is necessary to choose the type of curtains and their quantitative composition. It is on these factors that the design of the cornice will depend, as well as the requirements for the level of its strength.

  • In the case of the operation of dense curtains, which, accordingly, do not have a small mass, it is better to opt for metal structures, or profile ones made of high-strength plastic. The fastening of such a system is carried out using mounting holes in the bus.
  • You should also take into account the number of levels of such an obstacle, i.e. the number of curtains used. For example, if tulle and a blackout curtain are provided, then, accordingly, it is necessary to choose a two-level cornice.

The choice of the eaves according to the method of fastening

  • Fastening the eaves on the brackets;
  • With mounting holes;
  • And also a pendant mount.

In any of the cases, the arrangement of holes in the supporting structure becomes a mandatory factor, and the difference lies only in the quantitative composition of the fasteners, as well as their location.

How to fix the ceiling cornice

  • Concrete base;
  • And also to plaster.

How to attach a ceiling cornice to a concrete ceiling

The best option for fastening will be the use of a plastic or metal profile cornice.

Consider the process of consolidation:

  • The first thing to do is to measure the desired length of the cornice, and cut it out. A hacksaw for metal works well for this. Next, the assembly is carried out, during which all the necessary parts and plugs are attached and put on.
  • The next step will be the direct preparation of the cornice for installation. First you need to drill a hole in its central part. For this, either a double drill is used, or several elements of a wide diameter. Initially, a hole is made, which in its diameter corresponds to the diameter of the screw head. After completion, drill the holes on the other side with a slightly smaller drill.
  • Further, with the selection of a certain step of fasteners, you will have to wait a little to fully calculate it, you need to clearly determine the choice of curtains and their characteristics.
  • Next, you should attach the cornice to the surface so that it takes the position it needs, and then make marks in the places where the fastening will be carried out.
  • Initially, the cornice is fixed to the center hole. For this, a hole is made in the place of the set mark.
  • The next step is to insert the prepared dowel into the finished hole. After that, the arrangement of the holes for the remaining fasteners is carried out
  • It remains to fully fix the cornice. This will help the installation of all dowels, which leads to a tight fixation of the frame as a whole. Also, instead of dowel-nails, it is possible to use ordinary self-tapping screws, they will be less expensive, but perhaps good.

Fastening to wooden ceilings is carried out in the same way.

In addition, the fastening of ceiling cornices in this way practically does not differ from fastening with hangers and brackets. Usually, in such elements, holes for fastening are provided in advance, you just need to place the attachment point, and then provide for fastening to the ceiling

Fastening to stretch and cardboard ceilings.

If you do not plan to equip rather heavy curtains, then the fastening can be carried out to a plasterboard ceiling, or even a stretch one. To do this, you need to choose the right plastic cornice and fix it with self-tapping screws.

More difficult is the case of attachment to a stretch ceiling, and in the case of providing heavy curtains with plasterboard, problems may arise. But do not think that the cornice should be abandoned, this is far from the case. But still, if such a design is chosen, then it is necessary to think in advance about the place of its attachment, and equip the supports for it, even before installing the ceiling.

The laying of wooden beams is well suited as such a support. Such an "insert" is fixed to the surface of the floor slab in the place where it is planned to equip the cornice, on top of it, the ceiling is already equipped directly. Also, when choosing, you should take into account the necessary dimensions, which determines the preliminary purchase of the cornice. Among the factors that you should pay attention to, you can notice:

  • The thickness of the timber should be slightly less than the distance from the ceiling surface to drywall or film.
  • In addition, the width and length of the timber must be greater than the estimated dimensions of the eaves.

Now in more detail about fixing the ceiling cornice when installing a stretch ceiling structure.

First you need to install embedded structures. This is done even before calling a specialist and taking measurements for arranging the ceiling. This is done to mark the location of the cornice on the plan, since in this area additional reinforcement of the structure is required, which is done by gluing.

Further, already during the installation of the ceiling at the place of insertion, holes are made in the canvas, and the rings are inserted. This step prevents the film from tearing. It is through these holes that the fastening will be carried out.

There is also a slightly different way of attaching the ceiling cornice when arranging a stretch ceiling. It implies the arrangement of a niche, i.e. the required distance is left between the ceiling and the wall to fix the cornice.

Further, in the place of the gap, the cornice is attached to the base ceiling. The technology was mentioned above, so it is not worth repeating it. With this option, the cornice itself will not be visible, while the curtains will seem to flow directly from the ceiling.

Wall mount

Quite often, there are cases when the cornice has already been purchased, but they thought about fixing it only upon completion of finishing work. In this case, you have to resort to the extreme option, and consider the question of how to fix the ceiling cornice to the wall. There are not so many variations in the performance of work, or rather, only two:

  • In the first case, you can use brackets, thus it is possible to simulate fixing to the ceiling.
  • And the second is fixing a wooden block to the wall under the ceiling. On which, in fact, the installation of the cornice will be carried out. It should be noted that it is necessary to take into account such factors as: the size of the timber, to ensure indentation, as well as additional decoration.

Another option, which is used in some cases, is to call workers, who, for an additional fee, will dismantle the necessary part of the ceiling, and then install it back.

Thus, we figured out the question of how to fix the ceiling cornice, the video presented below will help you more clearly get acquainted with the fastening technologies.

Ceiling cornices are used to fasten curtains and curtains, they also serve as a decorative function. They are usually made from PVC (polyvinyl chloride). The curtain rod consists of a hollow rail and one or more parallel lines for various curtains. There is nothing difficult in how to attach the ceiling cornice; this work can be done on your own. It should not be forgotten that plastic is a rather fragile material, so you cannot hang heavy curtains on slats from it: they can break under the weight of the fabric.

Ceiling cornices are divided into types. In accordance with the design features, they are:

  • one-;
  • two-;
  • three-;
  • four-row;

By the type of attachment, they are distinguished by the installed ones:

  • on hangers and brackets;
  • using a hole in the product.

Cornices can have a very different design, fancy shape, imitate expensive materials. With the help of these designs, it is possible to decorate the room. How it looks can be seen in the photo.

Choosing a ceiling cornice

The ceiling cornice should not interfere with the opening of the window. Therefore, it is placed at least 5 centimeters above the opening. The removal of the cornice from the wall is done in such a way that the curtains do not touch the ledge of the window sill, batteries, window handles. If you plan to hang several types of curtains, then focus on the one that will be closest to the window.

As for the length, it is better that when the curtains are pulled apart, the opening fully opens. The optimal distance from the ends of the cornice to the window slopes is 30-40 centimeters. But this value may vary depending on the location of the window openings, the density and width of the curtains, as well as personal preferences.

For heavy curtains, it is recommended to use metal products, but durable, wide plastic is also suitable. It is better to fasten them through the holes in the tire. When choosing a design, it is advisable to know how many curtains will hang on it - the number of tires depends on this. For example, if you plan to hang tulle, curtains and lambrequins, then you need to buy and figure out how to fix three-row ceiling cornices.

Fastening the ceiling cornice

The product is cut to the desired length using a metal hacksaw and a square. Then the structure is assembled by putting curved parts on the ends of the cornice. If the product is straight, then special plugs are placed so that the hooks do not fly off.

In the middle of the cornice, a special hole is made using two drills with different diameters. They begin to drill it in the front of the product with a large drill - its diameter will allow the screw cap not to protrude above the surface. When the size of the depression becomes equal to the height of the head, the drill is changed to a thinner one. The same holes are drilled along the entire length of the structure. The heavier the curtain fabric, the smaller the distance between the fasteners should be.

To fasten the cornice to the ceiling, a hole is drilled in the concrete base using a punch and a drill, into which a dowel is then inserted. The structure is fixed on one self-tapping screw. The cornice is leveled, the remaining marks are applied to the ceiling surface and holes are drilled. Fasten the structure with dowel-nails. For the installation of wide cornices, it is recommended to make holes not in one, but in two rows.

Attaching plastic curtain rods to wood ceilings is much easier. You just need to mark up and fix the product using ordinary self-tapping screws.

Installation of curtain rods on brackets

Ceiling-mounted eaves are even easier to install as they already have holes for fasteners. The work algorithm is similar to the previous method, but there are some peculiarities.

Attaching eaves to plasterboard ceilings

Fastening ceiling cornices to drywall structures is not particularly difficult, but only lightweight fabrics are recommended to be hung on them. You should also choose a lightweight cornice. The work process is identical to that described above.

It's another matter if you plan to hang heavy curtains. First, the future location of the cornice is determined. In these places, wooden mortgages are installed, which will contribute to its more reliable attachment to the ceiling structure.

Installation of curtain rods on the walls

Quite often it happens that first they make repairs in the room, and only then they begin to choose the cornice. There will be no problems with how to attach the cornice to the ceiling if it is simply painted or pasted over with wallpaper. But if a tension or suspended structure is installed, and the mortgages are not installed, then it becomes impossible to attach the product to the ceiling. In this case, there are two exits, but they are fixed to the wall.

In the first case, brackets are used, they are selected to the width of the cornice and connected to it with self-tapping screws. In the second, a mounting bar made of wood is installed on the wall under the ceiling and a structure for curtains is attached to it. But it will have to be decorated.

Beautiful, correctly selected curtains are an integral part of the interior. The overall perception of the room depends on how they are fixed. The best option for fixing them today is the ceiling cornice, which allows you to visually increase the height of the room. To install the structure does not require significant efforts and large calculations, so you can fix the ceiling cornice for curtains with your own hands.

Classification

Modern ceiling curtain rods are classified according to material, mounting method, profile design, size and shape. For the manufacture of ceiling cornice, manufacturers use three materials: wood, plastic, metal... Wooden structures are more suitable for a classic interior. For rooms where all the furnishings are selected in a modern style, metal structures are more suitable. Lightweight plastic curtain rods are versatile, they will look harmonious in almost any interior.

There are two types of ceiling mounting. Either it is hung from the ceiling using various fasteners through a hole in the plank, or it is mounted on brackets, which in turn are attached to the wall or ceiling.

Profile designs for different models differ in the number of rows. Single row systems have only one track. In this case, hanging the curtains will turn out to be only one layer. The multi-row system is characterized by the presence of 2 to 4 tracks, it allows you to create multi-layer compositions from different textures of textile fabric.

For the classic version, when curtains with curtains are hung, a two-row design is suitable. When adding a lambrequin, a three-row cornice is required. The 4-row system allows you to create complex designs from several types of fabrics.

In shape, the cornices are of the following types:

  • Straight rectangular cornice... This type allows you to hang curtains, curtains and lambrequins in a straight line is the most common option and is called a profile cornice. A kind of rectangular shape are rounded cornices, consisting of a main straight part and two separate arcuate elements that are attached to the main part (tire). Curtain rods of this design have recently been very popular due to their rounded edges, which give the curtains a neat look and smooth shapes;

  • Profile cornice... These eaves, consisting of component parts, are suitable not only for windows located in one straight line, but also for windows located on different walls next to each other. Thanks to the arcuate elements, you can model the corner version. The pivoting elements completely coincide with the linear parts. Rows are formed along which runners with curtains move freely;

  • Flexible bay window cornice... A real find for panoramic windows characterized by non-standard geometry. There are string and profile options. A string structure consists of one or more metal cables stretched between brackets. Each string can be 5-6 meters long. The flexibility inherent in the construction of the string allows you to effortlessly decorate walls with a complex configuration, as well as to guide them around the perimeter of the bay window ledge. Any person can handle the installation of this structure.

But do not forget that string cornices are characterized by low bearing capacity, therefore they are not designed for the use of dense, heavy fabrics.

Light airy fabrics (chiffon, organza, batiste) are more suitable for such a design.

A more popular option for bay window curtain rods is the tire option. It is made either from aluminum or from plastic.

Plastic profiles are easy to install, lightweight, affordable and can be used in any premises, as they are resistant to moisture. Aluminum curtain rods are strong enough, have a long service life, spectacular appearance and are resistant to deformation.

Due to the flexibility of the design, any configuration can be given, it can be bent up to 100 degrees. But at the same time, it has sufficient strength and, unlike a string construction, can withstand a load of up to 80 kg.

Any cornice can be decorated with a special bar - a baguette... The most common material from which baguettes of different texture and color are made is plastic. It is he who has a low price and, most importantly, flexibility, which allows you to use the baguette in almost any curtain rod.

One of the main functions of a baguette is to hide some details, namely guides with hooks, flaws made when sewing curtains, construction flaws in the area of the window opening. In addition, the baguette helps to visually model the space, participating in the interior style.

How far can you hang?

Before you buy a cornice, you need to make measurements of the window opening.

The optimal length should be such that when the curtains are pulled apart, the window opening is fully open.

Determining this distance is simple: it should not exceed 40 cm from the end of the eaves to the window slope on each side. This is a standard value that allows you to freely open the window, but it can vary depending on the type of windows, the width of the curtains, and your preferences. If there are two adjacent windows, the distance from the end of the cornice to the window is 30 cm.

For ceiling mounting, it is necessary to calculate the optimal distance from the wall, at which the windows will open without any problems, the hanging curtains will not touch the window sill and the heating system. As a rule, a stock of 10-15 cm is enough.

For a ceiling structure fixed to a wall with a bracket, a 5 cm gap must be left between the top of the bracket and the ceiling. This rule especially applies to round and string cornices. Rings or eyelets used to hang curtains in these types, in the absence of a gap or a distance of less than 5 cm, can cling to the ceiling when moving. The height of 5 cm can vary in one direction or the other, depending on the type of curtains and your preferences.

Before purchasing a curtain rod, it is also necessary to take into account the weight of the curtains that will be hung on one or another type of curtain rod, especially if you plan to hang out a multilayer composition.

Round cornices, no more than 1.9-2 m long and having a standard pipe with a diameter of 16 mm, can withstand a load of up to 3 kg per row. For longer curtain rods, the pipe diameter must be greater than 16 mm in order to eliminate the risk of sagging.

Tire aluminum curtain rods are capable of supporting a significant weight of textile fabric. Tapestry curtains or blackout curtains in combination with light curtains can be safely hung on such cornices that can hold up to 50 kg of fabric.

How to assemble and install yourself correctly?

In order to attach absolutely any curtain rod, tools are needed. First of all, you need to prepare a percussion drill or hammer drill. The choice of this or that tool depends on the type of wall to be treated. If the wall is concrete, then you cannot do without a perforator, and if the wall is made of brick, then you can use a drill.

Both the drill and the hammer drill require victory drills. Moreover, there should be several of them, since the possibility of the drill getting into the steel reinforcement is not excluded, leading to damage or breakage. Also, to install the eaves, you will need a tape measure and a marker for marking.

Now we go directly to the process of preparing the ceiling cornice, which consists of the following steps:

  • If the cornice is longer than necessary, then you need to cut off the extra centimeters using a square or hacksaw. With a ceiling mount, a hole is drilled in the middle of the profile, but if you plan to hang several layers of heavy curtains, then the location will be slightly different. Several centimeters recede from the center of the cornice in both directions so that the width of the product is divided by two holes into three equal parts;
  • Next, holes are drilled throughout the product, at a distance of 60 cm. If the curtains are very heavy, then this distance can be reduced to 20-50 cm. Here the rule applies: the less durable the ceiling, the less should be the distance between the fasteners;
  • We apply a tire with ready-made holes to the ceiling and make marks on the surface either through one central one, or through two located at an equidistant distance from the center (for heavy curtains). The cornice should be placed strictly parallel to the window opening. Then the product is attached first in the center, and then aligned, and its edges are fixed.

When installing the curtain rod on different surfaces, there are some nuances that must be taken into account so that the product is firmly screwed in and withstands significant loads.

Features of installation to concrete

To work with a concrete surface, you must have two drills with different diameters.

  1. First, a drill is used that has a diameter that allows the head of the self-tapping screw to hide in the surface of the product flush. The drilling depth should be equal to the height of the screw head.
  2. Then you need to drill the hole with a drill with a smaller diameter.
  3. In the marks on the concrete surface, made through the holes on the surface of the tire, holes are made with a hammer drill and a concrete drill. The drill diameter must match the dowel diameter, as a rule, the value is 6 mm.
  4. Then a dowel is inserted into the hole formed.
  5. The cornice is screwed to the ceiling with one self-tapping screw, it is leveled and marks are set, which are drilled and dowels inserted into them in the same way as the first hole.
  6. Then the cornice is completely fixed.

Brackets to the wall

Brackets are special devices with which absolutely any cornice can be attached to the wall.

Most curtain rods are sold with additional parts, including a curtain rod that already has holes in it. But if they are not there, then they are drilled independently. On the side adjacent to the wall, the hole diameter must be 1 mm larger than the bolt diameter. For a more tight fit of the corner to the surface, the drilled hole on the back side must be machined. If there is no hole on the surface to which the tire is directly attached, then it also needs to be drilled independently.

On plasterboard, wood and adobe ceilings

Drywall is a special material and in order for the structure to stay on such a ceiling, two methods are used:

  • The first method is possible only during installation, because it involves the use of a built-in wooden beam to which the structure is attached. The beam itself is screwed to the ceiling and does not go beyond the surface of the plasterboard material. In order for the structure to hold well, the dimensions of the beam must be larger than the dimensions of the cornice;
  • The second method allows you to attach the cornice using anchors that act as an anchor. The plank, designed for light textile fabrics, is attached using dowels in the shape of a butterfly or umbrella, which have the ability to unfold, forming additional support. For a tiered structure, deeper holes must be drilled and anchor bolts must be used.

To attach the structure to a wooden ceiling, it is necessary to prepare self-tapping screws and make the correct markings. For heavy compositions, the screws are installed in 2 rows.

The adobe ceiling belongs to a loose type of material and in order to fix the cornice to the ceiling, it is necessary to use long and thick dowels, coupled with a screwed screw. This design, when screwed in, fills all cavities, thereby ensuring a strong fastening of the cornice.

Fasten to a stretch ceiling

There are two methods by which attaching the cornice to the stretch ceiling is not difficult. But both methods require preliminary planning, since in both cases, preliminary installation of a wooden beam is required. Let's consider them in more detail:

  • In the first case, the timber is mounted on the ceiling at the place of future installation, flush with the canvas. On the canvas at the location of the bar, marks are made, along which the eaves are installed;
  • The second method is more original, but also more complicated. The canvas is not stretched over the entire surface area, but with a small offset from the window opening, as a result of which a small niche is formed. Its width should not be less than the width of the cornice. The cornice itself is attached to the true ceiling. A special profile is attached to the timber next to the fixed profile. It is necessary to fix the stretch film and hide the timber.

If the ceiling film is already stretched, then the cornice can only be attached to the walls using brackets.

No drilling

At present, the cornice can be attached not only with the help of fasteners, but also with the help of liquid nails that can withstand a load of up to 80 kg per square centimeter.

  1. Before attaching the eaves, it is necessary to clean the ceiling surface from various contaminants (dust, paint, whitewash).
  2. Then the prepared area is carefully primed and leveled, and the surface of the cornice is degreased.
  3. On the base of the panel, liquid nails are applied in a zigzag pattern, after which the profile is pressed against the ceiling surface.
  4. In order to correct the structure, you just need to carefully move it in the required direction, without completely tearing it off the ceiling.
  5. The glue will grab after 20 minutes, and finally dry out if all conditions are met after three days. After three days, you can hang the curtains.

Installing the backlight

In order for the curtains to shine beautifully, you can install a special lighting. An LED strip installed on the curtain is used as a backlight. It is attached with an adhesive base to any surface. On the curtain, the lighting is located either between the grooves or on the inside of the baguette strip. With this setting, the light coming from the tape is not obscured by curtains or other elements.

In order to install such a backlight, it is necessary to install a box at the stage of repairing the room, in which the power supply unit with cables will be located. It is mounted either on the wall or on the ceiling. The mounting location is selected in accordance with the location of the DC power supply.

How to install the plugs?

There are two types of plugs used in tire type ceiling curtain rails. One type is needed for masking self-tapping screws and is inserted after fixing the product to the ceiling. The second type is a part that not only prevents the hooks from falling out of the groove, but also covers the cut end of the profile.
