I don't like the siding of the facade. It's boring. The block house is too expensive. The well-proven option with the use of DSP (cement-bonded particle board) for further painting and imitation of half-timbered timber also disappears. After several intermediate layouts, we managed to come to a common denominator. If you look at the figure above, you will notice that 2 whole sheets of OSB are placed vertically on the left and right. According to the results of measurements of the wall, it turned out that the distance (the remaining gap) in the middle is wider than one sheet, but already two. Those. - we need to sheathe the wall with two pieces laid horizontally, and then close the resulting horizontal seam. To maintain symmetry and overall layout design, add horizontal planks to the outermost OSB sheets and act in a similar way around the entire perimeter of the building.

The layout of the slabs and boards that cover the joints depends on the size of the house, and each case should be considered and calculated individually.

Installation of slabs

Having dealt with the layout design, we proceed to the installation of the plates. The work is simple, but there are a number of nuances. First of all, do not forget that curtain facade requires good ventilation for the release of excess moisture. If we neglect the main ventilation ducts (gap) with an exit in the upper part of the facade, then the moisture will be trapped inside, behind the OSB slabs, which do not allow steam to pass through, and with a large thickness they are practically vapor-tight. Hence - a bunch of problems in the form of mold and waterlogged insulation.

The user has a gap at the top of the facade, approximately 1.5 cm across the entire width of the panel.

We proceed directly to the installation of OSB. The thickness of the slabs in this version is 9 mm. This is quite enough, since sheets practically do not bear power load. First, on the walls, outside, we stuff the frame - a crate made of vertically placed wooden bars with a cross section of 50x50 mm.

We put between them, a bullet, mineral wool insulation.

Next, we fill the horizontal crate and, accordingly, we lay the insulation (the so-called cross insulation), orienting it horizontally. Thus, the joints of the slabs overlap. Then attach vapor-permeable moisture-proof membrane, with the obligatory overlap and gluing the joints with adhesive tape (double-sided).

Then we stuff vertical bars 30x40 mm, for fixing OSB sheets.

The pitch of the bars is 0.4 m, i.e. it turns out: 3 vertical strips per sheet. OSB was fixed with self-tapping screws, 6 pcs. for 1 bar. A gap of 2-3 mm was left between the sheets. Then the gap was carefully painted over, although I think that this is not necessary, since from direct contact with rain or dew, the ends of the slabs will be protected by wooden plates 100 mm wide.

In addition to insulation, the windows were replaced at the house, for which they were carried forward on frames made of a 5x15 cm board.

At the end of the cladding, they began painting the mounted walls.

Before painting, one additional layer of a universal bioprotective moisture-resistant impregnation, on a varnish base, was applied to the surface of the plates. Application was carried out from 2 sides.

Further, the plates, before being mounted on the walls (it is more convenient and faster to work this way), were covered with two layers of acrylic facade paint. At the coverage stage, the user made one mistake, which will be discussed below, but for now we suggest looking at what happened at this stage. According to the user, the result exceeded all expectations.

If you move 1.5-2 meters away from the facade, you get the impression that the walls are finished with plaster, and it is impossible to understand from the street that this is an OSB facade.

In addition to the decor, instead of the old porch, a summer veranda was erected in the shape of the letter L from a 15x15 cm bar.

After that, we moved on to finishing - the installation of a half-timbered layout. The planed board has different lengths. Somewhere - 2, somewhere - 3 meters.

Diagonal jibs, 2.5 m each, are made from one solid board.

Boards are attracted along the edges with self-tapping screws. The result is a strong, sealed connection that does not get moisture.

For contrast, the boards were painted dark brown.

Three-year operation of the facade has confirmed the correctness of the technology. The OSB boards at the ends did not swell, the paint did not peel off, the quality of the facade is invariably high. The only moment mentioned above: due to a mistake made at the installation stage (several boards were "forgotten" to be treated with biosecurity), the OSB outside was covered with fungus, which in places came out from under the paint.

Plates treated with protection were not touched by mold. This error turned out to be easily fixable. The cladding was removed and painted over again with paint (for safety - with an antiseptic additive). A year later, the fungus did not appear. The facade has been in use for 10 years. I walked over the CBPB slabs with a water emulsion 2 times, and that's it, since then I have not tinted anything for all this time. The paint holds just fine. I did everything myself. Sawed DSP 1200x3600x10 mm into squares with a side of 1200 mm. Otherwise, do not raise. The hardest part is making the top corner outside pieces. To sheathe, I had to climb the stairs, if I made a mistake with the saw, go down and saw again. He drilled holes for self-tapping screws in advance, then baited them with fasteners and, using a block system, lifted them up. Difficult, but worth it.

So, in fact! The house has dimensions 6 * 6 m (without a porch). The frame is fixed to the foundation with 200 mm anchors. As a mauerlat, a 100 * 50 timber was used, pre-treated with an antiseptic soil solution for wood, which also covered the supporting supports of the frame.

The main bearing supports are prefabricated and were mounted using self-tapping screws for wood (75 mm) from two beams 100 * 50, forming an internal wall thickness of 100 mm. All self-tapping wood connections were necessarily duplicated with nails. The supports were installed with a step of 625 mm along the central axis in such a way that a solid edge looked outward and inward. Their installation was carried out at once to the full height (length 4000 mm), at the same time forming the frame of the second floor. As the overlap of the second floor, a 1500 * 50 beam was used, supported by a frame of interblock partitions. All corner joints were fixed with metal overhead strips. Around the window and door openings, a 100 * 50 bar was installed.

After installing the frame, the roof was installed. First, they installed farton beams. For this, a bar of 100 * 50 mm was used, twisted three times. Further, from a bar of 150 * 50, rafters were mounted with a pitch of 650 mm, on which the lathing frame was fixed. After that, a layer of vapor barrier was laid and a roll-up waterproofing was laid. This created the basis for laying the base material for the roof covering. The rafters were fastened between themselves with a crossbar. Inside, the roof was insulated with basalt wool and hemmed with OSB sheets.

When performing these works, the distribution of ventilation and chimney ducts was not carried out. It was decided to place the ventilation in the parapet of the walls. Heating in the house was planned to be electric, by installing underfloor heating and radiators.

After making and closing the frame with a roof, they began to enclose the walls. Initially, solid OSB3 slabs were used to cover those places where they did not need to be cut. The dimensions of the house are such that four slabs become vertically in a row without cutting. Kronospan 2500 * 1250 * 12 slabs were used to form the walls. The plates were fastened in compliance with several rules:

  1. Only OSB boards were used. This process was carefully controlled during the procurement of the material. Dishonest sellers often give out OSB Basic, which does not have moisture-repellent properties and is cheaper than OSB3. It is practically impossible to distinguish visually one from another. Therefore, copies of certificates for all OSB sheets were requested from the supplier.
  2. Plates were installed only vertically (according to the manufacturer's technological sheets).
  3. All sheets were screwed in with stainless self-tapping screws.
  4. Only solid pieces were installed below and above the openings.
  5. The slabs were necessarily attached at the edges and in the middle.
  6. The manufacturer's requirements for the outside and inside of the slab were respected.

After closing the outer part of the frame, attempts were made to seal the seams from the inside. For this, a ready-made putty was used. After the first attempts, they decided to stop this activity.

Then the frame was insulated with 100 mm thick foam. This process is not labor intensive at all. The only thing that had to be taken into account was that the attachment points for future sockets were handled in a special way. To fasten them between the frame posts, strips were stuffed on a 40 mm recess. The foam was laid under the strip and on the side in such a way that there was room for fixing the back box. Next, we proceeded to the wiring of the electrical network. The cable was laid in a plastic corrugated pipe and laid in a groove pre-cut in the foam. Thus, the wiring is hidden inside the walls and safe.

The walls were closed inside the premises using the same technology as outside. For this, OSB3 sheets of the same manufacturer were used, only 2500 * 1250 * 10 mm. Previously, before fixing on the wall, holes were made in the slab for power outlets.


Of course, it is possible to build a house with your own hands easily and quickly, without large investments, without the use of heavy construction equipment, and most importantly, without having a large professional qualification. Fastening the side walls of the house. All sides were assembled on the floor, separately, and only then mounted. boards 2.5 x 10 cm were used in the work. This is a universal building board, which we also use in the construction of our buildings.
