How to make a bar stool. DIY bar stool: tips for choosing a design and recommendations for making stylish high chairs (80 photos)

The layout of individual apartments is always different, as is the area, and often this applies specifically to the kitchen. The dimensions of the kitchen may be familiar (several squares), but often this room is converted into a studio. Be that as it may, in such kitchens they put a bar counter, it not only looks stylish, but also practical - today few families find themselves at the table together. And if there is a counter, then bar stools are also needed. How to make a bar stool with your own hands?

Why on your own?

Of course, we are not saying that you should forget about furniture stores, but instead make all the furniture with your own hands. But if you look at the photos of bar stools that can be found in numerous catalogs of furniture stores, we can conclude: such a chair can actually be made by yourself!

In addition, hand-made pieces of furniture can become a true decoration of the house, pleasing not only to the eye, but also to the soul.

On a note! Even in this case, there are more opportunities, because you yourself decide which option is best suited for the interior of the room. It is not necessary to mention once again about people who like to work with their hands.

We decide on the design and construction

First of all, decide on the size of the chair. Its height, for example, will depend on the height of the bar itself. Also remember that your bar stool should be not only attractive, but also comfortable, in all aspects. Once you have decided on all this, proceed directly to the design.

In truth, you can start with the appearance, but then it may turn out that, due to ergonomic features, some adjustments are required.

As for the design, then, first of all, decide how many legs the chair will have and whether they will be at all. The best option is a product with four legs. It is easy to manufacture, convenient and reliable.

Important! A chair with a back will be even more comfortable, especially if you add armrests to it. If you plan to sit on such a chair during meals, then think about the back in advance.

Pay special attention to the upholstery (if it is planned). A chair made entirely of wood will fit perfectly into almost any interior, and after varnishing / painting and in other cases, it will also look good.

More details about the height of the bar stool

Nothing is known about the creator of the first bar stool. One can only guess that it first appeared around the time when, instead of the usual partitions between visitors and the seller, high (1.1-1.3 m) counter tables with comfortable table tops began to be used. From such racks, visitors to drinking establishments no longer had to move away. As a result, the usual "three-legged" chair was transformed into a bar stool. For more noble bars, they were made of precious woods, trimmed with leather and fabric; the poor public was content with cheap options. But even despite the practicality and high "growth", all varieties of bar stools remained in the shadows for a long time due to an unremarkable design.

Everything changed in the fifties and sixties of the last century, when high chairs became fashionable and attracted the attention of large enterprises. Much has changed since then, today the designs are very diverse: there are models with and without armrests, with backs, rotating and static, soft, with removable cushions and without upholstery ... Changes have also affected the material of manufacture - now they use not only wood, but also chrome, aluminium, plastic. And the variety of decor allows you to use it for all possible stylistic decisions!

Despite all this, when choosing a bar stool, its convenience is of great importance. Due to the center of gravity, which is shifted forward (the visitor rests his elbows on the counter), the support is not the back, but the footrest. For this reason, the backrest is more a tribute to tradition than an ergonomic condition. As for the seating height, it, as noted earlier, depends on the height of the bar, and therefore modern chairs are either produced in two sizes (Th and Bh) or equipped with a gas-lift mechanism, thanks to which you can easily adjust the height of the seat (within 54-85 cm).

Which tree to choose?

If you plan to make a wooden bar stool, then remember: it will require about 10 finished elements. The same applies to structures made of other materials.

When choosing a material, give preference to hardwoods (such as oak, maple, beech). In principle, wood is best suited for self-production (although there may be exceptions, which we will discuss later) in terms of the “effort-result” ratio. Moreover, wooden chairs will look great in an apartment/house.

After choosing a suitable drawing or compiling it yourself, get the materials. Everything you need is sold in building supermarkets or hardware stores, while chair parts can be ordered ready-made in the workshop. If you specify the required dimensions, you will quickly and inexpensively cut out all the required parts of the structure.

On a note! There may be more details - it all depends on the chosen design. In addition, upholstery materials may be added. Also, after assembling the chair, it is recommended to impregnate it with a primer (if it was not covered with paint / varnish) to protect it from moisture.

But in the manufacture of a metal bar stool, some difficulties will arise. This option is suitable for craftsmen who are accustomed to working with metal, who have all the necessary tools and are able to make all the details on their own. Additionally, you will need to work with welding if connectors for fastening are not provided.

A wooden product, unlike a metal one, is easier to assemble - this will require a hacksaw, a screwdriver, self-tapping screws and sandpaper. Of course, the description is very superficial, but it shows the difference well.

Features of the manufacture of a bar stool

Despite the huge number of ideas (both in specialized magazines and on the Internet), the most important thing in all cases is the correct measurements.

The most important thing is the correct measurements

First, decide what the height of the chair will be. It is recommended that from the seat to the tabletop it should be approximately 35-40 cm. Having determined the height, draw up a drawing or use a ready-made one (choose the appropriate option).

On a note! To make the simplest bar stool, you will need 4 legs, the same number (preferably) of the legs and, in fact, the seat. If a back is planned, then the hind legs should be about 30-35 cm longer (it will serve as the basis for the back).

It is easy to make a mistake at any of the stages of manufacturing - both during the preparation of parts of the structure, and during measurements. Therefore, it is recommended that all measurements be repeatedly rechecked before being included in the drawing or cutting off an unnecessary part.

The ready-made drawings already mentioned above will help with this, which is more relevant for people who have not designed anything before. Do not rush, try not "for show", but for the result!

Option #1. Simple wooden bar stool

The first thing you have to think about is how will the seat be, hard or soft? Not knowing which option to choose, make a firm seat, as in the example below. In the future, you can upholster it at any time with any available material (fabric, leather, etc.). The diagram below shows the design and dimensions.

Step 1. For the legs, use wood 5x5x71 cm (in our example, it is poplar). Cut the chamfers / corners at both ends by about 5 degrees, so that the legs stand at a slope relative to each other. For connections, drill pocket holes.

Step 2 Attach the bottom/middle planks, chamfering in the same way (all at the same 5 degree angle).

Step 3 Having fastened all the parts that are parallel, begin to screw the transverse partitions to one of these sides. Do one side first, then the other.

Step 4 When attaching the partitions, consider the fact that it should be comfortable to put your feet on them during the operation of the bar stool. This is a prerequisite.

Step 5 The seat will have a special shape, thanks to which the chair will be even more comfortable. At the end of the board that will be used for sitting, mark up. To get the desired shape, use a circular saw, setting it to different cutting depths; Although it is quite possible to use a regular saw. First cut the grooves, and then remove the excess wood with a chisel.

On a note! The process, of course, is quite complicated, and therefore, if there is something better at hand, the chisel can be abandoned. When you are finished with this, carefully clean all surfaces with a grinder.

Step 6 In the end, it remains only to connect the legs to the seat. To this end, drill holes in the upper part of the legs, make the same holes on the bottom of the seat, then, using glue, put all the parts on the pins.

Clean the surfaces of the finished bar stool with sandpaper. If necessary, close the holes with putty. Next, you can paint the chair or, alternatively, varnish it.

Step 7 Everything, a simple bar stool is ready (and in our example there are three of them). Such a design - thanks to the competent placement of perpendicular crossbars, comfortable seating and selected height - may well become the most favorite and comfortable place in the house! Would you like to make the same chair? Feel free to get to work, because nothing is easier!

Option #2. Backless bar stool with metal legs

Consider the process of making a simple highchair made of walnut (seat) and metal. An old bed frame was used for the legs. The height of the structure is approximately 64 cm.

A distinctive feature of the option is the shape, which makes it easy to weld and strengthen pieces of metal. If you plan to use the welding machine for the first time, then in the course of making such a chair you will definitely gain valuable experience and learn how to cook well.

Step 1. Start by creating the shape of the future design. Cut a suitable material (for example, chipboard) into four pieces of 54.5x23.2 cm. All elements are fixed with a side joint with screws, as a result, a square "pipe" 58.5 cm high and 20 cm sides is obtained.

Step 2 Make a corner base for the mold using a 9.5 cm piece of board. You need to cut the pieces beveled so that they all fit. To do this, find a suitable angle using a tape measure and set it so that everything matches. As a result, after cutting, beveled edges will be obtained.

Step 3 Fit pieces with edges cut at an angle of 45 degrees around the perimeter of the base. Fasten the beveled base using plywood and small nails, as in the photo below. You do not connect this part to the "pipe", and therefore it can be easily removed if necessary.

Step 4 Thanks to the shape made, you can easily determine the location of the legs. No changes are required, you just need to attach and mark up.

First of all, mark and cut the legs from the bottom. To make the process easier, you can hang the corner of the base over the edge of the table and then fasten the iron piece in place. Then cut off the bottom ends.

After that, place everything in the form and proceed to mark the upper ends of future legs.

Step 5 For the top of the structure, use 4 corners. Mark everything you need with the help of the square made before. Glue the pieces together, then remove from the mold in order to fit the weld on each side.

Important! Vice, as in the photo, it is better not to put on a tree. Because the bolts by which everything is fastened can fly out, and everything will have to be redone.

Step 6 Cut out a few more pieces of metal to make the footrest. In our example, the length is about 30 cm, and the angle is 45 degrees.

Step 7 The support with a footrest was held with the upper part of the structure and blocks for the supports. Weld everything together. Weld a metal lining on the bottom of each leg. At the end of the work, sand everything with “sandpaper” (recommended grit - 40).

Step 8 Now it's time for the walnut. Cut the main part into 2 thick boards, clean them with sandpaper. For sanding beveled edges, use sandpaper with a grit in the range of 100-220.

Step 9 Treat the frame of the future structure with a primer, and then with black paint. At the end, attach the wooden seat to the holes previously made with screws.

Option No3. Wooden bar stool with round seat

Another great option, but compared to the first, much more difficult to perform. But first things first.

Step 1. First, prepare the necessary lumber. It is better to use a bar with a section of 30x30, although in our example 30x40 is used due to the lack of a suitable one on sale. All this will cost a very reasonable amount.

Step 2 Start cutting. Prepare 4 bars 45 cm long, 4 more - 57 cm.

Step 3 First of all, make 2 blanks from the bars according to the “long-short-long” type, and then glue 2 more short ones between them. By the way, in our example, in addition to clamps, clamps from a circular saw and a grinder are additionally used.

Step 4 From the remnants of boards and plywood, make a milling box. You want the 8 stud to go through the entire post (although it's better to use larger bolts to minimize vibration). In the example, the stud is tightened with nuts; the workpiece scrolls inside the box while constantly tightening the nut. Ideally, it is better to make a cutter for this, which rotates the blank by 10-15 degrees.

Prices for various types of milling cutters

Step 5 As a result, you will carve such a rack.

Step 6 Start making the seat and footrest. They will be round, their diameter will be 31 cm. For greater strength, you can glue them from two shields, placing the lamellas across each other.

Step 7 Cut a ring out of plywood using a router. With this ring, you will process the outer edges of the footboard and seat, as well as the inside of the latter.

Step 8 More or less like this. Inside, milling was carried out along a copy sleeve, and outside - with a milling cutter with a bearing.

Step 9 Mark the footrest - put the center post in the right place, then circle the outline.

Step 10 Mark in the corner where exactly you need to make vias. By the way, a pen drill can “break” a tree; if this happens, you will be forced to putty a lot.

Step 11 With a thin drill, mark the point where the pen tip passes. Next, use a pen drill to make holes of the desired diameter, cut out sections with a jigsaw, and then align everything with “sandpaper” on a bar.

Step 12 This is how the wood will look after puttying the gaps left after the pen drill.

Step 13 Glue the blanks of the legs from the bars.

Step 14 Shape them using a plywood template. Be careful and securely fasten the template with nails, otherwise it may be torn off the workpiece.

Step 15 Glue the cross, assembled on the grooves, into the seat.

Step 16 Make similar grooves in the legs to assemble them.

Step 17 After milling the edges, proceed to assembly.

Step 18 Sand the seat with extreme care.

Step 19 Pre-assemble the bar stool (without glue) to try on the parts.

Step 20 Connect all the details together.

Step 21 After final assembly, apply stain and varnish to the glue. The result you get will definitely please you!

Table. The cost of manufacturing such a bar stool.

On a note! In general, the manufacture of such a chair will cost about 1400 rubles.

Option number 4. Chic metal bar stool

Consider another interesting option for making a bar stool. Looks attractive and original.

Metal bar stool - decoration of your kitchen

Step 1. Draw on a piece of a dense sheet of asbestos, which is used for welding, a pre-prepared form (in the photo - red lines).

Step 2 Cut according to the sketch of the workpiece, using a strip of 2.5 cm.

Step 3 Weld the parts together, as shown in the photo below.

Step 4 Choose an interior layout. We will immediately make a reservation that this stage can take a long time. Use the same strip for "shredding".

Step 5 Weld the parts, clean them. Also, round off the corners.

Step 6 Proceed to the most responsible business - start welding the legs. Use a 3x2 cm profile for this.

Step 8 First, grab the legs for 1 weld point, then gradually push them apart to the required positions.

Step 9 Here is what you get as a result.

Step 10 Designate the level at which the footrest will be located. Try it on yourself, you need to be comfortable. In our example, this is 45 cm from the seat.

Step 11 For the manufacture of stops, use the same 3x2 cm profile.

Step 12 Make tricky oblique cuts for them, then weld them.

Welders

Step 13 Put on special plastic plugs for the steel profile on the legs. Although you can, as in the example, make special "heels" of wood: they also will not scratch the floor, but they can be undermined if necessary to ensure stability for the bar stool.

Step 14 The part of the cork that will go inside the profile should be narrowed.

Step 15 Such plugs will be held only by friction. No glue or screws can be used. Sand corks to size with legs.

Step 16 The draft version of the bar stool is almost ready.

And this is how the chair will look in the interior.

Step 17 Start painting the product. First, apply a coat of primer.

Step 18 Paint everything below the seat black.

Step 19 Protect the black parts of the structure with something. So they will not get dirty during subsequent painting.

Step 20 In our example, such a cardinal color was chosen for the seat.

Step 21 Everything, a metal bar stool, made by hand, is ready for use!

Photo of handmade bar stools

Bar stools have become an indispensable attribute of the arrangement of the kitchen space.

Loft-style apartments are now in fashion, where kitchens are combined with living quarters, all unnecessary partitions have been dismantled. The bar counters are the "frontier", denoting the living area, and the place to eat in the kitchen. Not surprisingly, such attributes have become a sought-after piece of furniture.

People who love DIY can make such a simple item on their own, especially since technically it is easy to implement.

What tools are needed?

It requires a standard set of tools, materials and a properly drawn up drawing. Such a homemade chair is a product with high legs about 80 cm high, at the bottom there is a special footrest. High supports are very comfortable, in the process of sitting the legs do not become numb and do not get tired.

The height may vary depending on the dimensions of the bar in the kitchen. A person should feel free and not be afraid to lose the center of gravity, despite the fact that the chair is above standard sizes.

Making a plywood model

Wood is a plastic material that can be easily processed. You will need tools:

  1. Bulgarian with a disc type - "saw";
  2. Grinder machine;
  3. Roulette;
  4. Drill and screws;
  5. Glue.
  6. Chisel;
  7. Screwdriver.

Execution of works

At the very beginning of work, elements of future wooden legs are cut out of wood. Marking in the form of the letter A is applied to the tree, decorative roundings are made at the intersection points.

The elements of the legs are cut with a jigsaw according to the lined markings. Thus, a block is obtained - the future support for the legs. This is an important connecting element: there will be few fasteners, so the leg support must securely fasten the supports, which must withstand decent loads.

The chair should be strong and not “hanging out” at the attachment points of the knots. All places of cuts are processed by a grinding machine.

After the details of the legs are made, it's time to assemble the supports. Four blocks of legs are carefully coated with glue and mounted close to each other in an overlay. After the glue has hardened, for greater strength, self-tapping screws should be wrapped in the attachment points.

The footrest is cut out of plywood. If the thickness of the material is insufficient, then the cut pieces of plywood can be glued and joined.

The seat is made using the same technology. The sawn pieces are connected, which are well pre-glued. You can make several layers of plywood, taking into account possible large loads.

A special substrate is made for the seat, it must be strong enough, because the legs will be attached to it.

Fastening takes place with self-tapping screws. When everything is dry and assembled, the stage of paint and varnish work will come.

Solid wood product

The best option is to make a bar stool from a solid array:

  1. Birch;
  2. Oak;
  3. Pine.

The birch array is preferable, the pine is not always stained evenly.

When making a chair from a solid array, you need to consider - the thickness of the material must be at least two centimeters.

A circle with a diameter of 370 mm is cut out - this will be the future seat. If the house does not have special woodworking equipment, then a profile is outlined along the contour, cut out, and the surface is processed with a grinder.

Then a circle with a size of less than 250 mm is made - this is a part that will be a footrest. All elements are also cut from solid wood, and wood fibers should go along.

Then they are connected with glue, the back is fastened with self-tapping screws. Such fastening is enough for the structure to be rigid and durable. After grinding is completed, the resulting object should be carefully painted over, covered with several layers of varnish.

A chair made from solid wood is heavier, but also more durable. It is easy to style it antique, then it will look very original. In this style, you can make more than one product. Such a thing will serve for a long time, it is not afraid of changes in either humidity or temperature.

Technological flaws in wood

Wooden furniture is in constant demand, but it also has its drawbacks:

  1. Susceptibility to moisture is the most dangerous factor that exposes wood to deterioration;
  2. The anisotropy of the structure affects the different characteristics of wood fibers located along and across;
  3. Timber is combustible and susceptible to fungal diseases.

If wooden objects are left outdoors for a long time, for example, on the veranda of a private household, then it is likely that they will deteriorate, especially for products in which plywood is present.

Metal fabrication, first option

Metal is durable, and products made from it are no less elegant than those made from wood. Making bar stools out of metal is not a big deal. Appropriate materials and elementary skills in welding are needed.

Preparation for work is that, first of all, the appropriate tools are selected. First of all, you need a pipe bender, you can create it yourself. On the layout, the bars should be fixed and between them leave a space equal to the diameter of the pipe. Two beams must be at least 5 cm thick.

The pipes are filled with sand, inserted between the bars, and then the operation begins to give them the desired shape.

Required Tools

You will need:

  1. Drill and drills;
  2. bushings;
  3. Screws with nuts and bolts;
  4. self-tapping screws;
  5. Facing;
  6. Measuring tools and pencil;
  7. Paints and primers.

Start of creation

Before you start working, you should draw diagrams in order to first imagine what the object on high legs will be like. Samples can be found on the Internet, where there is a huge variety of models; it is also easy to find a description, and even diagrams and drawings there. After the model is selected, it will become clear what the dimensions will be, the creation of a product in three-dimensional space begins:

  1. First of all, a stencil is made on a scale of 1: 1, it will become the standard for future manufactured blanks;
  2. Two pieces of a profile pipe up to two meters long are cut off (this will be the future frame);
  3. The crossbeams will also be from the pipe, so segments in the amount of two pieces 0.5 meters long will be required;
  4. The rear legs will also be 0.53 m;
  5. All material is cleaned with sandpaper;
  6. Pipes are bent in accordance with a given pattern.

Mounting parts

Holes are drilled at the mounting points. The parts are then assembled together and iron cylinders are inserted into the holes. After that, a blank of fabric is taken, and two pieces are cut out of it in accordance with the template, which will be the seat and back.

They are stitched with a double seam and put on a finished frame. Legs are attached to the back with screws.

For fastenings, you can use self-tapping screws measuring 5x80 mm for the legs. The seat is screwed to the small circle using self-tapping screws 5x40 mm. Installation of stiffeners can be done with self-tapping screws 5x20 mm.

The ribs are installed on the legs with the help of corners. The item is ready.

Increasingly, there are metal stools, the back and armrests of which can be strong iron or copper tubes.

If there is a bar counter in the house, then the chairs for it will be very out of place. Do-it-yourself products can last a very long time, they are not afraid of either high humidity or large mechanical overloads.

Second option

If you have an idea to create chairs yourself, then it is recommended to analyze several algorithms for making these simple items. The second option may be preferable, especially for those who know how to use a welding machine.

To get started, prepare the tool:

  • Reiki about 20 cm wide;
  • Metallic profile;
  • Scissors;
  • Welding machine;
  • Sander;
  • Sandpaper;
  • Ruler;
  • Square;
  • Marker;
  • Roulette.

In a short time it is easy to create an original product that can "work" for many years.

Mounting

Stencils are made in compliance with the intended dimensions. The slats are cut off - these will all be blanks for the seats. The strips are welded, as a result, the desired shape will appear. Reiki are cut into even smaller strips, they should fit inside.

A stencil is made from plywood, which will serve as a guide. Thin strips are welded in such a way that a shape appears.

It is necessary to grind the workpiece, round off the corners. For the manufacture of legs, a section profile of 3 cm is used. A part of the required size is cut out of it. The height of the model may be different, depending on the height of the bar. Usually the seat is 35 cm below the level of the tabletop.

The parts made are welded to the frame, then the design will be stable. When everything is set correctly and checked several times, then you can “tack” by welding. The footrest is usually located forty centimeters from the seat, the crossbars are cut out and welded. Joints are polished.

Finishing

Metal is a hard material, the ends of the legs must be insulated with rubber or wooden nozzles. After the product is made, the finishing period begins: the finished item is primed and painted.

It makes sense to put several layers of primer and paint, which will guarantee long-term successful operation of the item.

How to make bar stools with your own hands, see the following video.

  1. Where to begin?
  2. How to make a concave seat

Making any piece of furniture with your own hands is quite simple, you need to have a tool, material and a properly designed idea. If earlier the bar counter was a typical restaurant piece of furniture, now it is part of the kitchen or open living room of private houses and cottages. Today it is a fashionable element of the home interior, to which bar stools serve as an indispensable addition. Making them yourself will not be difficult if you pay attention to the master class presented below.

Where to begin?

First, you need to define what a bar stool is. In simple words, this is a stool with high legs, which can be equipped with a small back. The easiest way to make a bar stool from wood, while some elements can be replaced with chipboard panels.

For the manufacture of any wooden structure, drawings are required with an exact indication of all dimensions of the product.. They will allow you to avoid mistakes during work and determine the amount of necessary consumables.

Where to start and how to make a bar stool with your own hands? To do this, decide on the height of the bar counter. It is necessary to carry out the following calculations:

  1. We measure the distance from the edge of the bar to the floor;
  2. From the obtained dimensions it is necessary to subtract 350 mm. We get the required height of the bar stool.

For wooden options or bar stools made of combined materials, the seat height will be at the same level, so you can make a stool from any material and in any design without making a mistake in size.

What tools are needed for the job

In order to make bar stools with your own hands, you need the following tools:

  • roulette;
  • hammer;
  • drill with a set of drills;
  • screwdriver;
  • grinder or sandpaper;
  • jigsaw;
  • brush.

Features of making a chair from solid wood

If you want to make a durable and beautiful stool that fits perfectly with your bar counter, then solid wood should be chosen as the material for it. The most accessible and most suitable species for this are birch and pine. You can buy them in the form of furniture boards and boards in any specialized store. The thickness of the material should be 20-30 mm. The master class provides for the manufacture of a stool in several stages. First of all, it is necessary to cut 10 parts, taking into account the dimensions entered in the drawings:

  • the first piece is the seating circle, which should be 30 mm thick and 350 mm in diameter;
  • the second part is a circle that serves as a substrate for the seat. Its diameter is 250 mm with a thickness of 20 mm;
  • then four legs are cut out of an array 30 mm thick;
  • last we cut out 4 strips, which play the role of stiffeners in the design. For their manufacture, material with a thickness of 30 mm should also be used.

The legs should be cut in such a way that the wood structure in them is vertical. Otherwise, the strength of the structure will be significantly reduced, and it will be unreliable.

When all the wood parts are sawn out, you can begin to assemble the structure. This requires the following consumables:

  • metal corners, through which stiffeners will be attached to the legs;
  • self-tapping screws, 5x80 mm in size for fastening the legs together and screwing them to a small circle;
  • self-tapping screws, 5x20 in size, in order to fix the stiffeners;
  • self-tapping screws, 5x40 in size, through which the seat will be attached to the small circle.

The assembly of the chair is carried out according to the following scheme:

  1. We fasten the legs together with self-tapping screws.
  2. We install stiffeners, which are fixed with corners.
  3. We fasten the small circle to the legs.
  4. A large seat circle is mounted on top, which is fastened to a pre-assembled structure
  5. The finished chair is varnished.

The second option for making a bar stool

The drawing of this product is somewhat different from the previous one. The design is a classic high stool, equipped with several stiffening ribs. Despite their simplicity, such products look very good at the home bar, they are durable and comfortable.

The rectangular seat of these chairs can be upholstered with fabric or made concave if desired, which will be an excellent design solution for a home bar.

As in the previous version, this wood bar stool project begins with the creation of a drawing.

In order to simplify the image, it does not show the two crossbars located under the seat. In this design, they must be present.

Now consider how to make such a wooden chair:

  1. For the legs, four beams are taken, with dimensions of 40x40 mm. It would be best to take a pine, birch or. Each leg must be 710 mm long.

  1. We fasten 2 legs, setting the top crossbar. The same should be done with the other two legs.
  2. Install the middle and bottom crossbars in the same way.

  1. Now we assemble the general structure from the legs. To do this, attach the remaining two upper crossbars and install the two lower ones, which will act as footrests.

Do you have a bar in your house or apartment, but no high chairs for it? The assortment in stores is not that small, but does not fit into the concept of a living room or kitchen? It's OK! In today's tutorial, you will learn how to make DIY bar stool.

Materials for bar stool legs

The first question you should ask yourself is whether the seat of your chair will be soft or hard? If you do not know how best to proceed in such a case, leave a solid, as we did. If you don't like it, you can upholster it at any time - with fabric, leather or any other material you like. Below you can see the diagrams and dimensions of our future bar stool.

We begin to collect the legs

We make chair legs from poplar wood - 5x5 cm, 71 cm long. All connections are made using the technique described in this article.

We attach the middle and lower bar, similarly, first chamfering at an angle of 5 degrees.

After you have connected together the two parts of the chair, which are parallel to each other, we begin to fasten perpendicular partitions on one of these assembled sides - top and bottom. First we process one side, then the second.

When attaching partitions, you must consider their placement in such a way that when the chair is ready, it will be convenient for you to put your feet on them. This is a bar stool and it should be comfortable to sit on!

Seat technology

The special shape of the seat will make your bar stools even more comfortable. First you need to make markings on one of the ends of the board, which we will use to make the seat. To achieve the desired shape, you can use a circular saw, adjust it to different depths of cut, you can use a regular file for this purpose. We cut indentations, and then cut off the excess wood with a chisel.

Of course, this is a rather difficult way to make a recess and you may need to use some kind of special tool, but I didn’t have it at hand. After you have wielded a chisel, you need to thoroughly clean the surface of the seat with a grinder.

Connecting the seat and legs

We complete our master class by connecting the manufactured seat and legs. To do this, you need to drill holes in the top of the legs and the bottom of the seat and use glue to put everything on the pins.

Sand the surface of a brand new bar stool with sandpaper. If necessary, fill the holes with putty, paint as desired, or varnish.

Finished bar stool

That's all, such three handsome men, three heroes settled in our living room. Thanks to the tailor-made height, the optimal placement of the crossbars and the ergonomic seat, they have become the most comfortable and favorite in our family. Do you want to do the same? There is nothing easier!

An interesting option to make bath chairs with your own hands

1. Characteristics of the bar stool.
2. Tools and materials.
3. Manufacturing sequence.
Bar stools are convenient attributes for tables with a height of more than 850 mm. Outwardly, they may look like ordinary stools, but only with elongated legs. The height of the chair should be 300 - 350 mm lower than the level of the tabletop.

The remaining parameters (width, length, height of the legs, the presence of a back) are adapted to the wishes of the user and the design of the room. Consider how you can make a bar stool with your own hands from a bar, which, for example, can be purchased at hardware stores.

To prevent weakening of the chair structure, it is desirable to use all wooden elements without knots.
In the presented material, the bar stool is assembled from a common type of wood - pine.

Manufacturing sequence.

To make a bar stool with your own hands, you can follow the following sequence:
Step 1
Round off the bars intended for legs, sides, prolegs on all sides using a manual milling machine and an appropriate nozzle.
Step 2
Using a hand router with the same tool as in step 1, round off the seat blanks on one side to a length and width of 40mm.
Step 3
Clean all elements of the chair with sandpaper until the surface is smooth.
Step 4
On the legs, drill holes with a diameter of 3.5 mm for fastening the legs and drawers. Their coordinates are shown in Figure 1.
Step 5
Based on the photo, lean the parts against each other and mark the attachment point with self-tapping screws through the holes in the legs.

To reduce the stress arising in the process of tightening the fasteners at the ends of the parts, drill a blind hole with a diameter of 2.5 mm and a depth of about 30 mm.
Step 6
Use self-tapping screws along the drilled holes to fasten the blanks of the legs, tsarg, prolegs together.
Step 7
On the resulting chair frame, unscrew the screws so that they do not come out of the body of the workpiece, but the ends of the part could be smeared with glue.
Step 8
Lubricate the ends of the frame with glue and tighten the fasteners until its head is placed flush with the surface of the beam. Remove the protruding PVA particles with a rag.
Step 8
To drawer sides No. 2, with 40 mm screws, attach a beam for attaching the seat from the inner side so that one side of the beam with a width of 25 mm is adjacent to the drawer side, and in the lower part is flush with it.

Step 9
Remove the screws from the seat blank and apply glue to the side adjacent to the chair. Connect these elements.
Step 10
From the side of the seat, apply glue to the support bar (20 X 25 mm) and, setting the seat blanks close, from the first to the eighth, nail them to the support. Dip the nail heads into the body of the tree with a core. Remove excess glue with a rag.
Step 11
Clean the surface of the chair from dust. Putty potholes, recesses in the tree. Clean all the elements with sandpaper. Using a brush, apply varnish evenly over the entire surface of the bar stool. Let the product dry.
Step 12
When used as a soft sole under the legs of a chair of a solid canvas with a self-adhesive film, determine the dimensions of the end part of the leg and, based on these data, cut out the appropriate elements from the specified material.
