Sandbox with bench cover diagram. Children's sandbox

I decided not to postpone the story of the sandbox, which I mentioned and talk about the construction process. In addition, there are still warm days of Indian summer ahead of us and, perhaps, someone will even have time to do something like that. :)

Almost all summer my wife and her daughters spent at the dacha with their grandparents. There is plenty of space for children. You can walk outside all day, eat raspberries and strawberries right from the bushes, and generally enjoy childhood and life. :)

But, no matter how good it was, and without the main component of childhood (if, of course, it does not pass in permafrost conditions), the mood of any child will not be the most positive. I'm talking, of course, about the sandbox. So my child at some point remembered that in the city, they say, there is this very sandbox, but at the dacha, much to the chagrin, no.

As a result, after an agreement with my grandmother (our main country field marshal), at an emergency family meeting, it was decided that there should be a sandbox! :)

After wandering around the Internet and reviewing a bunch of sandboxes of various shapes and sizes, I decided to stop at a rather simple, but functional and convenient option. But since I could not find any diagrams and drawings, I had to do something "like in the picture" :) The photo below was found by me on the Internet and was taken as a basis for construction.

Having estimated the approximate dimensions of the future sandbox, I went to the construction market. I bought boards, beams, wicket hinges and paint.

After I have cut the required number of parts, it remains only to grind and assemble everything into a single structure. My faithful assistants helped me to cope with these tasks :)

Grinding was carried out using a grinder and a grinding wheel, which is not entirely correct, since a lot of fine dust is obtained in the process, which literally clogs everything. Next year I want to buy a sander with a dust collector, otherwise cleaning takes almost as long as the construction itself.

After all the parts were processed, I started assembling.

The beam, to which the boards of the side walls of the sandbox were attached, I extended, since later I planned to dig it into the ground and these "tails" were supposed to serve as supports for the entire structure so that it would not fall through.

Gathering everything together, he pulled this colossus out into the street. It turned out impressively (the sides of the square were about one meter and twenty centimeters).

For strength and reliability, I reinforced the corners with the remnants of the timber.

Passed through with the first coat of paint. I treated the "legs" of the sandbox with used machine oil.

Well, more precisely, the legs were not painted entirely by me ... :)

I figured out the pre-painted boards of the future sandbox cover in place.

Using a grinder with a rough skin, I removed the edge from the boards, giving them a prettier look.

I firmly fixed the first two boards by screwing them in with self-tapping screws. Then he began to assemble the first part of the movable sandbox cover, adding two more boards and attaching wicket hinges.

Something is already starting to work out ... :)

Then he proceeded to the second part of the lid. The fact is that this lid is not simple, but with a curious mechanism that turns it into a shop! To do this, I added two more planks and held them together with bars.

Attached two planks fixed with bars to the previous two planks using the same wicket hinges. As a result, I got the following construction:

The bars are calculated so that when the lid is opened, they rest against the wall of the sandbox and serve as a support for the back of the bench.

Thus, our lid folds down and turns into a comfortable bench.

The fifth and sixth boards are held together by the bars, which I mentioned above. In the same way, I strengthened the third and fourth boards, reinforcing them with additional small bars. Now the boards are held not only on hinges and are securely fastened to each other.

In addition, these short bars protect children's priests from being scratched on the hinges, and also serve as a backrest for the back of the bench so that it does not fold over and does not fall on the hands and backs of children. After all, don't say it, but safety is above all! :)

To prevent the bench from sagging under the weight of those sitting, I screwed a small support plate on the first two boards in the center.

After finishing one side of the sandbox lid, I started assembling the other side.

I decided to make the second half of the lid without a back, thus modifying and improving the original design. :) The fact is that if an adult suddenly decided to play with a child, it is convenient to do this without getting into the sandbox entirely, but sitting down on its edge. In the original version of the sandbox, from which I took an example, both sides of the lid were with backs, which made it difficult for adults to fit.

In my version, there are no such problems. :)

I closed the corners with a wooden corner so that the ends of the boards did not absorb moisture, and in general it looks much neater.

Having completely assembled and painted the whole structure, I went to look for a shovel ... :)

Having dug a pit around the perimeter, I lowered the support legs of the sandbox into it so that the side walls lay on the lawn.

A suburban area actually requires attention and care all year round. Adults who are busy with chores cannot devote enough time to children. Therefore, it is very important to organize the leisure of the children in the country. The ideal option is to build a children's playground. And it is better to start the construction of a children's corner with a sandbox. A hand-made sandbox, even as an independent element, will take little fidgets for a long time.

It is necessary to choose the place of installation of the future sandbox and materials for its manufacture, taking into account the following factors:

  • Children, even those who are keen on playing, need supervision. Therefore, the sandbox must be installed so that the child is always in full view of adults.
  • The sun's rays can harm the health of the child, lead to sunstroke and burns, but a solid shadow is not the best option. Therefore, it is advisable to place part of the sandbox in the shade, and part in an open place so that the sand can dry out after rain.
  • Drafts and excess moisture can also negatively affect children's health. Therefore, the sandbox should be away from the water and not stand in the open wind.
  • From trees, especially old ones, dust and dry leaves often fall. Therefore, in order to avoid contamination of the sand, it is better to install the structure away from them.
  • Some plants cause allergies, and some attract stinging insects. Therefore, you need to make sure that there are no honey plants and plants that cause allergies nearby.
  • Well-processed wood and secure fittings will help prevent splinters and injuries.
  • Hard materials such as stone, brick or iron can also be harmful, so it is advisable not to use them. And of course, you need to make sure there are no sharp corners, nails, cords, and so on.

In addition to the entertainment function, sand games perform developmental and psychological. Soft free-flowing material soothes and relaxes the nervous system, promotes the development of creativity, fine motor skills of hands, perseverance.

Design featuresOpen sandboxA typical simple design that performs the main function - a playground
Closed sandbox
  • The presence of a lid allows you to keep children's crafts intact, protect the sand from weathering, from debris, excess moisture and unpleasant "gifts" from animals that can use the sandbox as a toilet.
  • It is easy to store children's equipment under the lid.
  • And the cover, which transforms into benches, will provide additional space for rest and play.
MaterialWood
  • Natural, eco-friendly material, easy to handle. With good tools, even an inexperienced craftsman can cope with the manufacture of the simplest design.
  • It is important to grind the parts well, round off corners and edges to avoid injury.
  • The only negative is that wood is short-lived. It dries up, rots, bugs can start. This can be avoided if the future sandbox is carefully processed.
Plastic
  • Plastic is a durable, strong, safe, beautiful material.
  • Such a model is easy to dismantle, put away for storage or transport to another location.
  • The main disadvantage is that not everyone can afford a sandbox made of plastic.
Other materialsTo this day, other materials are used to make sandboxes: brick, stone, metal. But these materials do not guarantee the safety of children. Hard, sharp surfaces increase the risk of injury.
Type of allocationIn-depthThe sandbox can be deepened into the ground, which is very effective for strengthening the base. In this case, drainage with a thickness of about 15 cm is required in order to avoid moisture accumulation. Then it is covered with agrofibre or a dense film, in which holes are made every 10 cm. Such a base will prevent the germination of grass, the appearance of insects and mixing of sand with the soil.
RaisedSuch a structure is installed on a concrete base or grass. It is necessary to provide that even the smallest child can climb into it on his own, for which low sides are made with a height of 380-400 mm, which are half covered with sand.
ConfigurationCurly sandboxesStructures in the form of cars, boats, flowers, animals, and so on, serve as an additional playable detail.
Game centersThe simplest example is a hemp sandbox. The child can not only play with sand, but also run along the structure itself.

You don't have to stick to the traditional square shape Use of car tires
It is necessary to protect the child from the sun's rays: a bright large umbrella will help The lid will help protect the sand from debris and moisture Bright lid transforms into comfortable seats, thus adding a seating area Easier to use, but more difficult to manufacture option with a solid lid Can also serve as a separate game element Such a sandbox allows the child not only to play with the sand, but also walk along the sides, warm up a little. Typical sandbox - easy to make To protect children from the sun, you can make a canopy Also protects sand from dirt The original boat will delight your child Another version of the sandbox in the form of a ship

Preparatory work

Considering all of the above, it is more convenient and practical to make a deepened wooden sandbox with a lid.

Drawings and dimensions of a children's sandbox

Initially, you need to decide on the size of the future structure. If there are a lot of children and there is enough space on the site, then you can make a large sandbox measuring 2x2 m.For one or two children, it is enough to make a square structure measuring 1.5x1.5 m.

Despite the simplicity of the design of the future sandbox, it is better to have a visual diagram in front of your eyes. Thus, first you need to draw a drawing that will help determine the necessary materials, correctly calculate the size and quantity.

Looking at the drawing, you will notice that the side boards on both sides must be slightly longer in order for the correct closed corner to form.

How to choose material

Consider the following facts:

  • Tree to tree - strife. The durability of the structure may depend not only on the quality of processing, but also on the type of wood: pine, linden or larch are less susceptible to decay.
  • The sides of the future design must withstand heavy loads. To ensure durability, it is necessary to use boards with a thickness of at least 30 mm.
  • Sanding and grinding an already assembled structure is extremely inconvenient. It is advisable to grind the prepared parts well before assembly and treat them with an antiseptic, which will avoid unprotected places. It would be more prudent to paint the iron hinges in advance.
  • The main thing is not to forget about what is inside. The sand should be clean, free of foreign impurities, and mold well. Therefore, it is better to give preference to river or quartz sand, after sifting it through a fine sieve, which will help get rid of dust, possible insects, and foreign objects.

Materials and tools (for a structure measuring 1500x1500 mm)

When purchasing materials, the existence of a reason cannot be discounted. For the construction of the base you will need:

  • expanded clay, small stones or river pebbles for drainage;
  • agrofiber, dense polyethylene or plywood.

The sandbox is based on a frame with sides of 1500x1500 mm. To make the frame you will need:

  • timber 50x50x450 mm (for corner elements) - 4 pieces;
  • timber 50x50x1000 mm (to strengthen the corners) - 1 piece;
  • board 30x150x1500 mm (side walls are short) - 4 pieces;
  • board 30x150x1560 mm (side long) - 4 pieces;
  • sealant - 1620mm;
  • self-tapping screws 45 mm - 50 pieces.

The transformer cover will be attached to the finished frame. For her you need to prepare the following materials:

  • board 20x125x1560 mm - 12 pieces;
  • timber 30x30x250 mm (for fastening the seat) - 4 pieces;
  • timber 30x30x450 mm (to strengthen the back) - 4 pieces;
  • hinges (awnings) 40 mm - 12 pieces;
  • self-tapping screws 45 mm - 50 pieces;
  • self-tapping screws 25 mm - 60 pieces.

For processing and registration you need:

  • antiseptic for wood processing;
  • primer for wood;
  • paint or varnish for staining.

The materials are ready, but without the tools, the process will not budge. Therefore, you need:

  • roulette;
  • pencil;
  • pegs with a rope tied to them;
  • shovel;
  • hacksaw or jigsaw;
  • sander or sandpaper;
  • drill and drill;
  • screwdriver or a set of screwdrivers.

Step-by-step instructions: making and installing a wooden sandbox with a lid

The work is best done in several stages. First of all, it is advisable to assemble the sandbox frame, then make a base and install the box in the prepared place. And only after that, mount the cover.

Assembling the case

We fasten the boards sanded and treated with an antiseptic to each other in the form of a square using corner elements - long bars, not forgetting to pre-outline and drill holes for self-tapping screws.

If ordinary insulation is glued between the first and second tier, the boards will adhere more tightly to each other and the sand will not spill out into the cracks.

To avoid sand spilling out through the cracks between the boards, it is advisable to glue ordinary insulation

To give greater strength to the future sandbox, you need to securely fix the corners with additional bars.

An additional block attached diagonally will add reliability to the structure

The ends of the corner bars, about 15 cm long, will be in the ground, so they must be covered with linseed oil, bitumen or used engine oil. Now the frame of the future sandbox can be carefully transferred to the installation site.

The frame of the future sandbox is ready for installation

Construction of the base and installation of the frame

The site, chosen taking into account all the tips and recommendations, is leveled and cleaned of debris. For more accurate marking, it is necessary to add 15–20 cm to the dimensions of the future sandbox on each side. We make markings using pegs with a rope stretched over them, checking the correct angles.

Remove the top layer to a depth of about 20-25 cm, making a slight slope towards the center. This is necessary so that the water that gets into the sandbox does not accumulate, but falls into the drainage. In the center we make a hole about 50 cm in diameter and about the same depth. We fill it with the material prepared for drainage.

Then you need to pour a five-centimeter layer of sand and carefully tamp it.

The base itself, which can be made of different materials, is placed on the resulting "pillow". The main thing is not to forget to make holes in it at a distance of about 10 cm from each other, again to prevent moisture accumulation.

We install the finished frame on the resulting base. Now you can proceed to the main stage.

Installation of the cover convertible into a seat

Thoroughly fasten two boards on each side to the sides. Then we start assembling the moving parts of the cover. To do this, we fasten the remaining boards in pairs using bars.

The elements obtained from the first pairs will serve as a seat, and elements with long bars will serve as a back. The protruding parts of the timber will act as a support, not allowing the backrest to recline.

We attach the “seat” element to the firmly bolted boards using three loops located at the same distance from each other. In this case, the hinges should be on top, and the bars connecting the seat boards should be on the bottom.

We attach the backrest to the seat, also with the help of hinges, not forgetting that this time the hinges "look" inside the box, and the bars are outside.

In this version of the assembly, the last stage is quite problematic, because the backrest part has to be screwed on virtually by weight. There is also another way. First, fasten the back and the seat together, and only then put them on top of the box and attach them to the rigidly attached boards.

Attention! To avoid possible injury, it is important to "sink" the caps of the self-tapping screws. You should also check that the cover can be easily opened and closed.

Final finishing

So, the sandbox is ready! Now it is advisable to smooth out possible corners with sandpaper or a grinder. After that, even if all the wooden and iron parts have already been processed, it is better to go through with an antiseptic again.

You can simply varnish the resulting structure, but it is best to paint it. And here imagination comes to the rescue. Do not forget that this is a playground for children. And the kids are very fond of bright colors. Paint the sandbox with different colors. Additionally, you can draw patterns, funny pictures by hand or apply through a stencil. The main thing is that the children are happy and feel comfortable in the new sandbox.

To prevent small builders from spreading sand throughout the site, it is better to make a separate path to the sandbox.

Video: a master class on making a sandbox-transformer with your own hands

It is easy to please your child by making a bright, beautiful sandbox with your own hands. It doesn't matter if it is a simple box of sand or an interesting design. The main thing is that the sandbox is pleasing to the eye, safe and comfortable. And then the child will receive incomparable pleasure. And if the children are happy, then the parents are happy.

The costs of building a sandbox are minimal, and it will bring great pleasure to children. Of course, you can buy a ready-made structure and just fill it with sand, but a hand-made sandbox is much more interesting and convenient.

Seat selection

Before starting the construction of the sandbox, you need to find the most suitable place for it, because the comfort and safety of the baby depends on it. There are several rules for sandbox placement:

For protection from the sun, you can place a sandbox under a small sturdy tree or build it. But under old trees this is not worth doing: at any time a heavy branch may fall from the tree onto the child.

Sandbox construction

If you have chosen a place for the sandbox, you can start the main process. First you need to calculate the dimensions of the structure, choose the shape, and properly prepare the base. The size of the sandbox depends on the age and the number of children who will play in it. For three kids 1-3 years old, a section of 1.5x1.5 m is quite enough, for older children it is recommended to make sandboxes 2x2 m, and standard designs have dimensions of 1.7x1.7 m.

Most often, the sandbox is rectangular or square, but sometimes round and hexagonal structures are found. Much depends on the fantasy of the master and his skill; if experience in such matters is minimal, it is better to stay on the standard square shape. Wood is used as a building material, namely pine boards.

Additionally you will need:

  • shovel;
  • roulette;
  • pegs and rope;
  • geotextile;
  • sand;
  • rammer;
  • timber 50x50 mm;
  • hacksaw;
  • antiseptic impregnation;
  • liquid bitumen;
  • grinder.

Step 1. Site preparation

The selected area is cleared of stones, branches, weeds, and the surface is leveled. If the dimensions of the sandbox are 1.5x1.5 m, then the cleared area should be 10-15 cm larger on each side - this is necessary for more accurate marking.

Step 2. Markup

Now you need 4 pegs, a tape measure and a long rope. Visually determine the location of one of the corners of the structure, drive in a peg, draw two perpendicular lines from it, mark the location of the last corner. A rope is pulled between the pegs and the length of the diagonals inside the markings is checked. They must be exactly the same.

Step 3. Preparing the base

Inside the fence, a layer of soil is selected to a depth of at least 20-25 cm. The walls of the pit must be leveled so that they are strictly vertical. When all the soil is removed, the bottom is trimmed and compacted. Sifted fine sand is poured on top with a layer of 5 cm, well tamped.

Step 4. Making the frame

The bar is sawn into pieces 45 cm long, the lower ends are sharpened, polished, treated with impregnation and coated to half with liquid bitumen. Now you need to install them at the corners of the perimeter and deepen 15 cm into the soil. The next stage is to fasten the boards: they are knocked down in pairs and screwed to the bars with self-tapping screws. You can do it differently: first, completely assemble the frame, and then install it over the pit.

Boards can be taken narrow or wide, the main thing is that the width of the walls is at least 30 cm. Be sure to treat the surface of each board with a grinding nozzle on both sides, then soak and dry. After that, the boards are knocked down into a square box and reinforced at the corners with bars, which on one side should protrude 15 cm beyond the perimeter of the box.

Step 5. Installation of the sides

For the convenience of the child, small sides should be made around the perimeter of the frame. To do this, take 4 boards 20 cm wide, grind them very well, cover with an antiseptic and cut the edges at an angle of 45 degrees. Lay the boards on top of the walls, align and align the joints, screw them tightly with self-tapping screws. The caps of the self-tapping screws should be well sunk into the wood so that the child does not get hurt. Sometimes, instead of the sides, corner benches are made: they take a board of short length, process it well, put it on two adjacent walls, stepping back a few centimeters from the corner. After that, the board is nailed on both sides, and the edges protruding beyond the perimeter are cut off.

Step 6. Finishing the structure

Now the sandbox needs to be painted correctly. For this, paints of 2-4 colors are chosen, always bright and contrasting. Bumpers or benches can not only be painted, but painted with ornaments, images of animals, flowers. Once the paint is dry, the structure is filled with sand.

Making a cover for a sandbox

An open sandbox becomes clogged very quickly, so you have to periodically sift the sand or change it altogether. To avoid such problems, it is recommended to install a wooden cover. It is not difficult to make it, and the result will be not only good protection from debris, but also comfortable benches. It is best to mount the cover before installing the frame in a permanent place.

For work you will need:

  • pine boards 25 mm thick;
  • jigsaw;
  • long loops;
  • bolts with nuts;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • timber with a section of 30x50 mm;
  • primer;
  • dye;
  • drill.

Step 1. Preparation of the material

The boards are cut to the width of the sandbox, all surfaces and edges are treated with a grinding nozzle. After that, they are primed, dried and covered with two layers of paint. The hinges also need to be painted, otherwise traces of corrosion will appear after the first rain.

Step 2. Assembling the first half of the cover

Assembling the first half

On one side, two boards are screwed onto the sandbox frame with self-tapping screws. Two more boards are connected with bars and attached with loops to the first. In this case, the bars should be at the bottom, and the hinges on top of the lid. They take two more boards and connect them with bars, the length of which exceeds the width of the shield. That is, on one side, the bars protrude a third beyond the edge of the board. This shield is also connected to the previous one using loops, only this time the loops should be at the bottom, and the bars on top. The hinges are screwed to the wood with bolts, since the screws loosen quickly.

Step 3. Assembling the second half

This half can be made without a backrest, which simplifies the process a little. On the free side of the frame, not 2, but 3 boards are stuffed, then a shield of two boards is knocked down and fixed with loops, as in the previous case. To prevent the lid from sagging under the weight of children, it is reinforced in the middle with a bar. Now, when opening, the first half folds into a comfortable bench with a back, and the second simply folds back half its width.

Installing the frame

To install, you will need an assistant: the structure is raised, turned over with protruding bars down and carefully lowered into the pit. The edges of the frame must match the edges of the pit. To keep the sandbox level, you should check the location of the walls with a building level. If necessary, remove excess soil or add more, leveling the frame horizontally. After that, the bottom of the future sandbox is covered so that its edges go 3-5 cm onto the walls on each side. The dense material will protect the sand from erosion, prevent moisture from accumulating and prevent insects and moles from crawling underneath. In conclusion, the soil is compacted from the outside and dumped from gravel or sand.

The sand layer for the game should be about 15 cm thick; it will take about a ton to fill a standard sandbox. It is recommended to choose river sand or quartz sand, which does not cake. Before backfilling, it must be sieved through a fine sieve to remove debris, vegetable impurities, insects.

Installing a canopy

Sandbox sheds come in a wide variety of shapes and materials. The most common option is fungus. For its manufacture, you will need a bar with a length of 3 m and a section of 100x100 mm, boards and plywood. Such a fungus is installed at the stage of preparing the base, since it must be dug in the center of the sandbox to a depth of 1 m.

The manufacturing process is very simple:

  • the bar is polished, treated with an antiseptic;
  • the lower part is coated with bitumen mastic to a height of at least one meter;
  • 4 triangles are knocked down from the boards, sheathed with plywood;
  • connect the triangles to each other and attach to the upper part of the timber using spacers;
  • in the center of the pit they dig a hole 1 m deep;
  • insert a bar, level it with a plumb line;
  • They fill the hole with rubble and soil, tamp it.

There is another version of the canopy: in the center of two opposite walls of the frame, vertical posts are bolted with bolts. The height of the racks is 2 m; in the upper part of the support, they are connected with a horizontal rail, through which a rectangular piece of dense fabric or a special canopy is thrown. The ends of the canopy on each side are fixed with metal hooks to the walls of the sandbox.

The described options are the most simple and popular, if desired, they can be supplemented at your discretion. The most important thing is that the design is as safe as possible, then the baby will be happy to play in it, and the parents will be able to relax a little.

Video - DIY sandbox

The sandbox brings so much joy to children! But it is very easy to build it yourself, you only need a little material, dexterity, imagination and skillful hands.

Theory

Sandbox placement

First you need to decide where to organize a cozy corner for your baby. When choosing a place, be guided by the following rules:

  • The sandbox should be in plain sight so that adults can control activities of the baby. A playground for children is not a place behind a barn or tall bushes.
  • Think about shadows... The play corner must be arranged so that one half of it remains in the sun, and the other allows you to hide from the scorching rays. It is good if a tree with a lush crown will grow nearby.
  • Or create shadow yourself. There are no tall trees on the site, or are you not ready to constantly sweep the fallen leaves out of the sandbox? Don't worry: make a cute umbrella-shaped canopy.

Sandbox base size and preparation, moisture protection

You can make a children's sandbox with your own hands! If there are a lot of kids, then, of course, it should be more roomy. However, the most common square structures measuring 1.7x1.7 m - it will be comfortable here for two-year-old toddlers and for grown-up tomboys. It is not difficult to build such a structure. But first you need to mark the site and make basis... This requires a cord, marking tape and pegs.

The preparation of the base is carried out in several stages:

  1. Fence the desired area around the perimeter.
  2. Remove the top layer of soil - about 30 cm is enough.
  3. In the center, dig a hole with a diameter of 40-50 cm and a depth of 60-70 cm, fill it with fine bulk material, for example, rubble, and tamp it. This is necessary so that excess moisture does not accumulate in the sandbox.
  4. From the sides to the center, make a slope along which rainwater will drain.
  5. When everything is ready, you can start building the base of the sandbox.

Sandbox foundation

Anyone can play this role dense material: polyethylene, plywood (just do not forget to make holes in it, otherwise water will constantly accumulate in the sandbox), paving slabs. The main thing is, before laying the material, pour a small layer of sand.

Do-it-yourself sandbox photo in stages

The base serves several important functions. So, it protects the play area from mice and insects that are not averse to settling in the sand. Also, film or plywood will help keep the sandbox clean, preventing dirt and stones from getting into it.

Sandbox sides

It's time for the sides for the sandbox. They help to define the territory of the playground, do not allow the sand to crumble and are actively used by children as an "exhibition area" for Easter cakes or just for recreation.

For the sides come in handy:

  • bars 45x5x5 cm;
  • boards 150x30x2.5 cm (you can replace them with narrow blanks 10 cm wide);
  • wide boards for horizontal benches.

Do-it-yourself sandbox photo in stages

Since wooden sandboxes with their own hands are usually square, 4 pieces are required for blanks.

The material must be carefully processed, otherwise the tree will quickly deteriorate, and children will receive several splinters. Take a grinder or electric drill, put on a sanding attachment and walk over the boards for horizontal boards. It is not necessary to grind the remaining boards and bars, but it is necessary to cover them in several layers with linseed oil or any antiseptic. Bitumen is great.

To obtain the base, the bars are dug in at the corners of the future sandbox to a depth of about 15-20 cm. Boards are nailed to them. Finally, horizontal overlays are fixed around the perimeter.

Sandbox cover

An important design element is lid... In principle, you can do without it, but in this case, garbage, branches and leaves will constantly get into the sand, and animals will certainly choose it as a toilet. Therefore, it is better to make a cover for the sandbox after all. This role can be played by:

Sandbox decoration

Do-it-yourself children's sandbox is ready, but will the child be interested if you leave it unadorned? You can simply paint the design in any color or draw an ornament on it, various pictures, letters, funny faces - whatever you want!

The final touch is filling the sandbox. Usually, for this, high-quality river or quartz bulk material is used, in which insects will be uncomfortable, and children, on the contrary, will be safe and fun!

Sandbox materials and sizes

Do-it-yourself sandbox photo in stages

So you've decided that your child needs a sandbox. It is not necessary to do it yourself: now, in any store of children's goods, ready-made structures are sold, which you just need to install in the chosen place. But this product is expensive, and it's more pleasant to make a playground with your own hands. Moreover, it is easy to find hundreds of photos on the Internet that will inspire and help you easily decide on the materials and sizes of the sandbox.

Before starting work, find the boards of the right size and well polish them so that children do not get splinters. The width of the workpieces should not be less than 30 mm.

Now draw up a drawing, choosing the location of the playground and deciding on the size. Sandboxes are usually made in the form of a square with a side of 1.5-2 m. The sufficient depth is 20-30 cm.

How to make a children's sandbox?

When the materials are ready, it's time to start directly creating a wooden sandbox with your own hands. This is not difficult at all if you follow the instructions:

Define a place for the playground. As mentioned above, the sandbox should be installed so that children do not suffer from hot sunlight and are in full view. Open terrain will not work - choose a corner under a spreading tree that provides enough shade. And do not forget: the site must be clearly visible.

If the shadow isn't enough, docanopy... It will perfectly protect both from the scorching rays of the sun and from rain if it suddenly catches the kids while playing, and, in addition, will increase the life of the sandbox.

Process the woodantiseptic composition, which will not allow the material to rot and suffer from insect infestations. The sandbox is located outside, so the protection must be of high quality, otherwise precipitation will quickly render the boards unusable.

Prepare the surface and do base for the sandbox. It should be such that it does not allow the entry of insects and rodents, as well as mixing of sand with the ground. Agrofibre, which is attached to the boards with a regular furniture stapler, is good for this purpose.

Do-it-yourself sandbox photo in stages

Install sides sandbox by connecting the boards with self-tapping screws. This is the most convenient and affordable mounting option that will give the structure the necessary strength. Even the constant pressure of a mass of sand cannot deform it.

Fasten wide horizontal boards around the perimeter of the playground so that children can rest while playing. You can also sit on comfortable benches with backs that can be easily installed on both sides of the structure.

To understand how to make a sandbox with your own hands and find answers to all the questions that may arise in the process, it is better to watch a video explaining all the stages of the installation. You may find ideas for different sandboxes made by yourself useful.

Do-it-yourself simple sandbox of large logs

The design is slightly reminiscent of a traditional log house. Whole logs were used as walls, wide boards covered with light paint were fixed on both sides and used as benches. The flooring has become an excellent base to keep soil out of the sand.

Transformable sandbox with folding lid

Perhaps the most practical and interesting option. It is done like this:

  • As for a regular sandbox, a box is mounted from prepared boards.
  • Materials for the cover are being prepared: 12 narrow boards (6 on each side) and hinges - standard door and with one long shelf (4 pieces each).
  • On both sides, two boards are nailed to the finished box.

Short hinge shelves are attached to the resulting parts of the future cover, and the next pair of boards is screwed to the long ones. Keep in mind: the size of the workpieces should be such that the long loop covers at least half the width. This is necessary for structural strength.

The next board is attached using a regular loop, and so that the shelves remain on the other side. To install the second workpiece, a small block is useful, which is stuffed on both sides, stepping back about 15 cm from the edge.

On the first pair of boards, a suitable piece of wood is stuffed, which will not allow the lid to bend and press on the hinges in the folded state.

It turns out an interesting sandbox with a lid with your own hands, which you just have to paint. Even at the stage of preparation, you can use a special impregnation, which not only protects the wood, but also gives it a particular shade. The paint can be any, the main thing is that it is intended for outdoor use and does not deteriorate under the influence of the sun and precipitation. Use your imagination and turn the sandbox into a little wonder for your child!

To make the play area even more practical, we recommend using the space under the seats to store toys, fencing off the space like a compartment. All the same, children mostly play in the center of the structure, and it will be possible to save money on the sand.

DIY sandbox boat

A wonderful option for little tomboy - a sandbox-boat. Probably every boy dreams of going sailing at least once in his life, so why not give him such an opportunity? Build a sandbox with your own hands like this:

The usual square base with low sides is constructed.

Two blanks are driven into the ground near one of the sides of the hull, to which boards for the "nose" of the future ship are attached. It is made in the form of a triangle with sides, the height of which should be noticeably higher than the main part. In the corners of the board, it is necessary to fasten it by hammering nails obliquely.

We make a ladder of 2-3 steps so that the child can easily move from the sandbox itself to the "nose" and back.

The top of the triangle is sewn up with boards.

Decor and accessories are being built: rigging, masts, etc. The resulting boat is painted.

Optionally, the design can be supplemented annex which is installed on the other side of the sandbox. It is made of beams, which are driven into the ground as pillars, and sheets of plywood. In such a house it is convenient to store toys and start a variety of games.

DIY sandbox truck. Step by step photos

The playground is a favorite place for toddlers to play. For adults, it will not be difficult to make it bright and cozy. For example, it is not difficult to make an interesting element with your own hands - a sandbox in the form of a truck, which will bring a lot of joy to the children.

What is needed

Any important business starts with planning. To create a sandbox, you need to prepare materials and design a structure.
For this you will need:

  • plywood sheet 1.5x1.5 m, 1.8 cm thick (several sheets);
  • fasteners (screws, screws, metal corners);
  • jigsaw;
  • slate pencil, drawing tools, drawing paper;
  • primer;
  • exterior paint;
  • unnecessary car parts (steering wheel, wheels, toggle switches, headlights, etc.)

Manufacturing process

The truck-shaped sandbox consists of two large parts - the cab and the body. They can be made from 13 parts:

  • Body side (2 pcs.)
  • Hood
  • Front end
  • Body seat
  • Bottom of the body seat
  • Side with door opening (2 pcs.)
  • Steering wheel panel
  • Roof
  • Sitting in the cockpit
  • Cab seat bottom
  • Back wall

In order not to be mistaken with the calculations, it would be advisable to first draw sketches of the parts on paper and find their optimal location on the plywood. Then transfer the image to the tree and cut along the lines with a jigsaw.

With the help of fasteners, we assemble the structure, process the edges and protruding parts in order to avoid injury to children.

Since the truck-shaped sandbox will be used outdoors and exposed to weather conditions, it should be handled. To do this, the entire surface is first covered with a primer, the second layer is applied paint for outdoor use.

It remains to add realism to the truck by setting the steering wheel, switches, you can also attach real wheels and headlights.
Thus, it will only take a few hours to make a sandbox with your own hands. And how many fun minutes happy children will spend in it.

Sandboxes with a canopy. Photo

A very practical and decorative sandbox with a canopy. There are many options for execution:

Simple wooden structure with perimeter benches and fabric canopy. For its construction, holes are made in wide horizontal boards on both sides of the sandbox through which long thin slats pass, serving as the basis. A roof is attached to them.

The sandbox is not given the shape of a square, but a boat. To do this, on one side, two boards are attached at once, connected by a triangle. The steering wheel is placed in the "bow". The fabric canopy is mounted on four supports.

A sandbox in the form of a house: wooden pillars are placed at the corners of the base, on which a gable roof is mounted with a carved ridge and other decorations. An interesting effect is created by the sides of the structure, which are not made of boards, but from a variety of bars set by a palisade.

Another boat. As in the variant above, a base of the corresponding shape is made, a fabric triangular canopy is installed (two supports are driven in on the sides near the "nose", and another one is in the center of the board from the opposite side). A "captain's bridge" with a steering wheel is being built.

A laconic do-it-yourself sandbox with four supports, on which a waterproof fabric is stretched from above so that bumpers are formed along the edges. You can make a lid from the same material: you just need to stretch the fabric, tying it to the posts in the corners.

A playground with supports driven in at the corners, on which a wooden gable roof is installed. At a low height between two pillars, wide boards are attached opposite each other, serving as benches.
