How horizontal blinds are attached. How to hang blinds on plastic windows: installation instructions How to fix blinds on an opening sash

Try to remove the tulle and curtains and you will see how empty the room becomes. At the present time, a large number of curtain options are being created. It's not just about fabric. Today, blinds are very often used as curtains. They perfectly protect the house from sunlight and prying eyes. These products are easy to assemble and disassemble. However, some are faced with certain problems: not everyone knows how to install blinds on plastic windows. In this article we will try to understand this in detail.

Views

To create coziness, there are more than 10 types of blinds: vertical and horizontal, roller and pleated, attic and interframe, for arches and bay windows, Roman and multi-texture, with an electric drive and protective (roller), photo blinds.

Blinds can be wood, bamboo, metal (aluminum), fabric, plastic, paper.

Ease of use, reliability in operation, affordable price, light-shielding properties have led to the fact that horizontal blinds have become one of the most popular types. They are used in the design of windows and other openings (in a variety of rooms). But most often they are still used for windows, and in the modern world - for plastic options.

Features of installing cassette models

If the owner installs the blinds on his own, then the manufacturer often disclaims warranty obligations. There are quite understandable explanations: due to incorrect installation, the sash may simply not work, which means that the curtains will be unusable. In addition, improper installation can damage the glass itself and / or the frame.

If you are not confident in your own abilities, then it is better to contact the master.

If you decide to do everything yourself, firstly, you need to determine the methods of fastening. Secondly (depending on the chosen method) - purchase blinds. Third, you need to prepare tools and materials.

Mounting methods

There are several ways of fastening (depending on the window opening):

  • If the window opening needs to be visually enlarged, then the cassette can be attached to the wall above the opening. The block itself can be much wider than the window opening, and the height of the structure can be much higher than the frame itself. In appearance, these can be full-fledged curtains;
  • If the window opening is wide enough, the window sill is used as an additional (for example, a flower) shelf, then in this case the cassette can be attached to the upper slope of the opening - similar to installation on the ceiling. In this case, the window will visually look larger, and on the windowsill, by closing the blinds, it will be possible to hide important objects from prying eyes. In addition, with such an attachment, the flowers will not be in eternal shade;
  • If the window itself is large enough and does not require visual magnification (or the window sill is narrow), then the blinds can be attached to the fixed window frame, to the opening sash, to the glazing.

Necessary materials

Having decided on the method of fastening, next it is worth preparing the necessary tools, including:

  • Roulette. Its length should be sufficient to measure the width and height of the window opening in one step. If you independently inform the manufacturer of the dimensions of the future blinds, you need to carry out measurements, focusing on the selected mounting method. If the cassette is mounted on the frame itself, then the width of the lamellas (plates) should be 2-3 cm less than it. Otherwise, the sheets of individual cassettes will interfere with each other. If you are still mistaken with the dimensions, then keep in mind that even metal lamellas (plates) can be carefully trimmed with ordinary scissors on both sides - to maintain symmetry;
  • Marker or pencil for marking;
  • Phillips screwdrivers and (or) screwdriver;
  • Drill or hammer drill - for attaching to a wall or ceiling;
  • Dowels, screws and brackets;
  • PVA glue or liquid nails - in case the hole turned out to be larger than the dowel, and it needs to be more securely fixed in the wall or on the ceiling;
  • Pliers;
  • Hammer;
  • Plumb line (for example, from a thread and a bolt);
  • A level that helps to correctly position the structure;
  • Stepladder or work table (chair).

So, the blinds are ready and unpacked. Everything you need is also prepared. It's time to start fastening by considering different fastening methods.

How to properly hang on the wall?

If you are going to make markings for the brackets on the wall, you need to assemble the blinds, guided by the instructions:

  • At a distance of about 15 cm from the edges of the product, you need to mark the places for the fasteners. Do this with a tape measure and a level.

  • The bracket must not be at the place where the latch is attached or at the place of the control system, otherwise it will interfere with the operation of the blinds. The distance between the brackets should be no more than 60 cm. As a rule, the width of the cassette unit does not exceed 2.2 m. If the window is large, then several blinds are made. The rule holds true in any case: the wider the block, the more brackets will be required to securely mount.

  • After installing the brackets, you need to push the latch forward. Carefully (tilting slightly towards the wall) insert the upper cornice under the bracket latch, press it firmly against the wall and turn the latch to the left by 90 degrees until it stops.

  • The lamellas are turned to the "open-closed" position using the control knob included in the kit. The handle length should not exceed 2/3 of the blade length. If the handle is longer, then it must be removed from the frame, open the protective plug, saw off the excess length, put the plug back on and hang it on the frame.

How to self-attach to the ceiling?

The principle of fastening the cassette model to the ceiling or the upper slope of the window opening is the same as when fastening to the wall. Differences will be observed in the way the brackets are mounted. When mounting the bracket to a wall, use horizontal holes, and when mounting to a ceiling or top slope, use vertical holes.

The technology is as follows:

  • Using a tape measure, determine the center of the window opening and make the markings symmetrically (relative to the center). If you are going to fix the brackets, attach a cassette with blinds and check how they work: do the canvases interfere with each other and the free movement of the cords, do not touch the opening.

  • Then connect the marks and check the levelness with a level. Using a drill or punch, drill holes: for the self-tapping screw with a 2.5 mm drill, for the dowel - depending on the plastic part.
  • When planning to fasten the brackets, once again check the level of the correct position of the cassette. It remains only to fix the brackets, fasten the cornice by turning the latch to the left by 90 degrees and insert the plugs. If you attached a curtain rod with a canvas, this means that the work is done. If not, then it remains to attach the canvas.

Sash installation

The cassette unit can be attached directly to the frame using self-tapping screws, violating the integrity of the window frame. But you can attach blinds without drilling.

If you decide to use self-tapping screws, then their length should not exceed 10 mm, so as not to pierce the window frame through and not to break the tightness of the window block. After marking and fixing the brackets with self-tapping screws, it is necessary to attach the blinds as described earlier (insert the cornice, turn the latch to the left).

You can learn more about how to fix vertical aluminum blinds to the sash of a plastic window using drilling.

Install without drilling

If you decide to do without self-tapping screws and violating the integrity of the glass unit, then you can use double-sided tape or brackets - clips. Moreover, with tape you can attach the cassette both to the frame itself and to the window sash. But the brackets can only be used on the sashes.

Using double-sided tape

The tape should be used for construction purposes, not for paper. This tape is not sold at the office supply store. You need to search for it in building materials stores and car dealerships.

There are two options for installing blinds with tape:

  • glue the tape directly to the cassette, and glue it to the window (sash);
  • glue the brackets-clips on the tape, and attach the cassettes to them.

In any case, when using tape as a material for attaching blinds, you must adhere to the following instructions:

  1. This type of work should be carried out in the warm season, the glass unit should not be cold or covered with condensation.
  2. It is necessary to wash the frame or glass, dry the attachment point and wipe it with acetone or solvent.
  3. Make a markup with a pencil, cassette, level; in this case, the line should be strictly parallel to the window sill so that a skewed gap does not form at the bottom. If the window sill itself is located with a slope, then you need to focus on the level and plumb line, otherwise the lamellas (blinds) will interfere with each other when closing. Their functionality will be impaired.
  4. Remove the protective film from the tape and carefully glue it strictly along the marked line.
  5. Attach canvas if it was not originally attached.

Using bracket - clamps

Bracket clips are very handy for window sashes. There are several versions of such clamps (plastic and metal), but they are all very easy to use. You can use them according to the following simple instructions:

  1. Collecting the cornice, you need to fasten the canvas and assemble it. It will be possible to fasten the canvas at the end of the installation work.
  2. Try on the clamp on the cornice, check the unit's functionality.
  3. Depending on the specific clamp model - open the window sash and snap the clamp (upper edge of the window sash). You can first disconnect the curtain rod and clips, snap them onto the sash - and then attach the curtain rod to the clip.
  4. Some models of clamps are equipped with stops that need to be fixed to the eaves.
  5. Install clips with magnets on the bottom of the sash.
  6. Fasten the canvas if not done before.
  7. Fasten the magnets from the bottom strip of the louver unit and clamps to the sash.

How to remove blinds?

Since there are a lot of models of blinds cassettes, there are also many ways to remove them.

If your blinds are attached to twist brackets, then they are removed by turning the latch 90 degrees to the right, while holding them. After turning, the cornice weakens, its upper edge needs to be slightly tilted towards the wall. The cassette comes out of the slots, the blinds are removed. Depending on the purpose for which you are removing the blinds, the canvas can be pre-assembled or left unfolded.

If the blinds are made in the form of a full-fledged curtain rod, then you need to very carefully (but at the same time applying a little effort) disconnect the upper decorative strip. There is a curtain mechanism under it. Gather the canvas from bottom to top. Lift the blinds up and to the right, taking them out of the slots.

From the video below you can find out how you can independently remove horizontal blinds from removable latches-fasteners.

If you are going to do all the work yourself, without the help of a specialist, it doesn’t hurt to first get complete information on how to install horizontal blinds on plastic windows, so as not to get confused in the process, but to clearly perform all the necessary actions. It is for this that you are provided with this instruction, so that no problems arise during installation. Be careful and careful, and most importantly, do not rush, you need to do everything with well-defined movements, especially if you decide to drill the profile of the sash or window frame.

Materials and equipment:

There is nothing complicated, as you yourself will see, there is no, however, it is worth observing the necessary sequence, and for a start, at least acquire all the necessary devices and equipment, without which it will be not only difficult to cope with the matter, but also completely impossible.

  • Themselves, previously purchased, unpacked and assembled as needed, horizontal blinds clearly sized for your purpose.
  • Hammer.
  • Roulette, no less than the widest or highest place of the window opening.
  • The level with which it will be necessary to check the horizontalness of the upper cornice bar.
  • Pliers.
  • Pencil or marker for marking.
  • A set of screwdrivers, and possibly a special tool for tightening parts of the blinds.
  • A drill or hammer drill to make special holes for the curtains.

Installation of horizontal blinds on PVC window sashes

With this method of installation, the blinds are attached with small self-tapping screws (included) to the window profile. They must be installed so that they do not interfere with the rotation of the handle. Be careful: if you drill too close to the glazing beads, you can damage the glass unit. Therefore, in this case, correct measurements are very important.

Installation of blinds on a PVC window

Installation step by step

The procedure is as follows:

  • We install the mounts on the cornice so that they do not interfere with the moving parts inside.
  • Trying on the product on the frame. We expose it so that the lamellas go to the drain frame and to the right at the same distance.
  • We mark with a pencil or marker the place where the fasteners should be located. During this operation, it is necessary to keep the cornice as straight as possible. You can navigate along the contours of the window frame or use a level.
  • Although the plastic is quite soft and you can immediately screw self-tapping screws into it so that the frame does not crack, it is better to pre-drill the holes. The diameter of the drill is slightly less than the diameter of the self-tapping screws. Usually, the kit includes self-tapping screws with a diameter of 3 mm, so the drill should be taken by 2 mm or 2.5 mm.
  • We take the brackets, fasten them to the frame with self-tapping screws.
  • We insert the curtain rod of the blinds, pressing it until it clicks.
  • We close the ends with the plugs that come with the kit.

Having to drill holes in a window frame can be daunting, but that's okay. In case of improperly made holes, unsuccessful ones can be filled with sealant. White silicone, not acrylic (acrylic turns yellow quickly). In this case, the characteristics of the windows will not be affected. What could be dangerous - getting into a double-glazed window. Then it can crack. But this is not fatal - it can be replaced, although it will not be cheap.

We put the lower clamps

But that is not all. To finally install horizontal blinds on plastic windows, you need to drill a couple more holes - for the clips (also called anti-wind). These are additional fasteners at the bottom of the opening sash of the window. The bottom edge of the blinds is tucked into them. They do this so that when airing the blinds do not hang down, do not dangle from the wind and do not knock objects on the windowsill.

Don't hang out ...

We put the clamps as follows: we try on, pulling the blinds down a little, mark the places of fasteners, drill holes, install. We fill the lower bar into the installed clips. Now, even with a draft or an open sash, the blinds will not dangle. The only thing to watch out for during installation is not to get into the glazing bead (this is a long bar that goes along the glass unit and holds it). It is necessary to drill a hole in the frame itself, stepping back at least 1 cm from the edge. Otherwise, there are no problems.

No drilling

There is also a way to install blinds on plastic windows and not drill the frame. This method is available only for those blinds that are hung on opening sashes. In this case, they are simply hung on plastic mounts / brackets that slide onto the frame from above. To prevent them from moving, a strip of double-sided tape is attached to the back of the bracket. After removing the protective film, it can be glued (or not fixed).

The shape of the plastic fasteners depends on the type of cornice. So you need to select for each specially

These L-shaped plastic brackets are not included, but you can buy them from a store or from a company that sells horizontal blinds. This method is convenient for simple dismantling of the blinds, which is convenient if they need to be repaired or washed.

Installation methods for horizontal blinds

As well as vertical blinds, horizontal blinds can be installed on the ceiling, wall, to each window sash or in the overlay. There are two factors to consider here: the depth of the window and the width of the sill. First, measurements are taken of the windows.

Installation diagram: 1. When installing blinds in a window opening, the length of the blinds should be reduced by 2 cm from the bottom and from the top. In the case of the overlay method, it is necessary to do the opposite - add 5 cm on each side. 2. Using the tools, make an accurate marking of the places for mounting the fastening of the structure. Installation of fasteners is carried out using dowels and special screws. Experts recommend using dowels with a size of 6 × 100 for this. Everything is ready in order to install the cornice with all the elements and check the operability of the mechanisms.

Installation of vertical blinds differs from horizontal ones in that special weights are attached to the vertical models from below, which should be pulled together with a chain from both the inside and the outside. The most optimal option for blinds is the option of attaching them to each window sash. The advantages of this method are obvious: compactness, preservation of mobility, ease of opening a window.

To install the blinds, you will need self-tapping screws, dowels, a drill, a pencil, a tape measure and a level. If the fastening is carried out using self-tapping screws, then plastic fasteners will be needed. But the most reliable way of attaching the eaves is to mount structures on screws to the frame. If the blinds are installed on plastic windows, you can do without drilling. When installing blinds on non-standard windows, you need to use lamellas of a special shape and length.

How to measure

Having decided to hang the blinds yourself, keep in mind that you need to correctly measure. It depends on how convenient it will be for you to use them.

If you have chosen a vertical structure, you need to know the dimensions of the window opening: the height and width are measured from the attachment point.

Slightly more complicated is the principle of measuring dimensions for the horizontal type.

Fastening in a window: the length and width of the opening are measured. In the absence of a window sill, the length may increase to the floor.

Aluminum and plastic blinds can be easily shortened and adjusted.

For the working window, you can choose blinds in two halves. You just need to measure the height of the glass and add 2 cm at the top. The same principle is used for the width of the glass, only you need to add 0.5 cm on both sides.

In this way, you can make measurements for roller curtains as well.

Advice! If the window does not open, this kind of curtains can be installed right in the middle of the window.

By making measurements yourself, you save your time and money, eliminating the waiting (often at an inconvenient time period for you) for representatives of window companies.

Mounting methods

Together with the blinds, manufacturing firms apply fasteners, screws and instructions. Having carefully read it and armed with certain tools, the installation process will not seem so difficult.

Before proceeding with the fastening, let's figure out the methods.

Fastening without drilling

To easily remove the blinds at any time and not leave marks on the window frame, walls or ceiling, use the following methods:

  1. Fix the bracket with double-sided tape;
  2. Attach the bracket to the top of the opening sash and the bottom with magnets.

Drilled assembly

Do the following:

  1. Place the eaves against the top of the sash and mark the installation points. It is advisable to pre-drill holes for the screws.
  2. Attach the bracket, take the screw and screw it in gently, securing the curtain rod.
  3. The line holding the slats must be fixed. Drill holes at the bottom under the glazing beads, the line should fall into the plugs, which we insert into the holes.

Important! A separate curtain should be attached to each leaf.

Drilled installation is relevant for installing the curtain rod in the ceiling or wall areas. For this you need:

  • make holes in the selected place;
  • hammer in several dowels;
  • fix the brackets with screws.

There may be differences in depth between the glass unit and the frame. Because of this, the fasteners sometimes do not completely adhere to the window. To eliminate this drawback, take U-shaped pads and substitute them (several can be) into the resulting void.

Using brackets

The louver carrier is fixed directly on the bracket, which makes it easy to detach for washing and cleaning if necessary. If you decide to completely remove such curtains, this can be done quite simply. At the same time, the window remains the same impervious to wind and temperature changes.

You can fix the bracket with screws as shown below.

Bracket attachment methods without screws:

  1. Hook onto the top of the opening sash profile. This method will allow you to remove the bracket at any time without effort.
  2. Stick with double-sided tape.

Types of blinds

For plastic windows, compact horizontal blinds and more comfortable vertical blinds are chosen with equal success. They differ in the way of opening, so in horizontal - the canvas moves up and down, in vertical - to the side.

Classic horizontal models are recruited from lamellas, but now roller blinds, pleated blinds and roman blinds, which also belong to this category of goods, are in no less demand. Basically, they are hung only on a window or on partitions.

The video shows photos of beautiful horizontal blinds in the interior

Please note that the video clearly demonstrates how to combine blinds with traditional curtains, and also contains good examples of how to choose light protection systems for various interior styles.

Vertical blinds take up more space, but they allow you to completely close the opening and even the entire wall. This type is most rational for the design of large areas of glazing, long corridors, openings of complex architectural shapes, for example, curved or arched.

The video below contains beautiful photo examples of various types of blinds.

Types of blinds and their differences

  • horizontal
  • vertical

Horizontal and vertical ones consist of lamellas (separate strips, fastened together in a structure).

Pleated

This guard consists of 2 guides with a fabric in the middle. During operation, the fabric gathers in folds, opening the sash.

Roll

The principle of operation lies in the name, with the help of a mechanism the fabric is collected into a roll.

Cassette

Cassette cassettes were invented specifically for plastic windows, the cassette mechanism is attached to the window sash, if desired, the canvas is completely retracted inside.

In order for the blinds to serve you faithfully for many years, you need to correctly, accurately and securely fix them. Installation of blinds, although a quick process, requires some knowledge and experience.

The methods of fixing the blinds differ from each other depending on their type, the material from which they are made and the type of window. There are plastic and wooden windows. Also, the method of installation on a dormer and a non-standard window is slightly different.

How to take measurements correctly

First of all, the blinds must be of the correct size. To do this, you need to decide on the method of fixing. The methods can be divided into two groups:

  • Attach blinds directly to window frames. There are options for using self-tapping screws and fixing the structure without drilling. In addition, it is possible to install common fasteners on the entire frame or on each leaf separately.
  • Place blinds on walls or ceilings. Several additional solutions are possible here as well. - installation in the window opening, on the ceiling in front of the window, on the side walls. For each case, you will need to measure your parameters.

If you plan to install blinds on several windows, you should measure each opening separately. Although it seems that the window openings are exactly the same, this is not always true. A discrepancy of 2-3 cm can lead to difficult-to-eliminate consequences.

If you plan to mount a vertical structure, you must measure the height and width of the window opening. You should be careful when measuring, since you can shorten too long slats, but adding additional elements to narrow blinds will be problematic.

Do-it-yourself installation of plastic windows in the article:

If the model has horizontal lamella placement, measurements will be slightly more difficult. If the blinds are installed in the opening, you need to determine what the width and height are. The length of the canvas is selected at its own discretion. You can find both models up to the windowsill, and long options that reach the floor. If necessary, blinds with plastic or aluminum slats can be easily shortened.

When installing directly on the frame, you need to consider whether the window will open.

If the window is solid, not opening, you can measure the width of the entire opening. If the sash will open, it is worth ordering a hotel structure for each half of the window. Measurements should also be taken accordingly. Measure the parameters of the glass (width x height) and add 20 mm at the top and 5 mm at the edges.

When designing blinds that are directly attached to the frame, make sure that they will not interfere with the operation of the fittings and will not become an insurmountable obstacle during its maintenance (lubrication, adjustment, etc.)

Mounting instructions

After you have made the measurements, proceed directly to the installation. You will need: pencil, screwdriver, brackets, drill (drill 6 mm), hammer, scissors, dowel and screwdriver. How to mount blinds with horizontal panels? This process is carried out in several stages:

  • step back from the glass 6 cm on both sides, mark the required place with a pencil, make sure that the line is even, otherwise the crooked curtains will work poorly and quickly fail;
  • use a screwdriver to make holes in which you will attach the brackets;
  • if the window opens, make holes in the upper part of the sash, if the window is deaf - on the outside of the glazing bead;
  • insert the blinds into the brackets, snapping the latter;
  • at the bottom or side of the window sash, make a hole for the retainer;
  • lower the blinds and check their operation;
  • if at any stage you have any difficulties, watch the video, which shows in detail how this process takes place.

Vertical blinds

To attach vertical curtains, use the following instructions:

  • mark with a pencil for the brackets (they should be located at a distance of 10 cm from the edge of the cornice);
  • having drilled a hole, insert a dowel into it and fix the brackets using self-tapping screws;
  • install the mounting brackets and decorative panels on the cornice;
  • collect the runners and secure the canvas in them;
  • weights are attached to the lower part of the blinds, then a decorative chain should be hung;
  • install the decorative panel into the mounting brackets by inserting the end corners and side panels into its ends;
  • check how the vertical shades work with the control cord and chain;
  • watch the tutorial video to make sure you did it right.

Fastening roller blinds

You can fix roller blinds either with self-tapping screws or without drilling. The most popular are blinds that can be hung directly on a casement. This requires double-sided tape, duct tape, or liquid nails. This method is suitable for both deaf and opening windows. Do not forget that the frame must first be washed and degreased with alcohol. Mounting on self-tapping screws, which is carried out according to the principle of installing vertical blinds, is more reliable.

Blinds are a design that does not imply careless handling and, if used incorrectly, quickly breaks down.

Installation of horizontal blinds

A huge plus of horizontal blinds is that they can be installed on plastic windows of any shape, even skylights are no exception.

Frame installation - ideal for horizontal slats, allowing you to open and close windows individually or at the same time.

To install horizontal slats, you need to stock up on a screwdriver, screwdriver and marking material (chalk, pencil or alcohol-based felt-tip pen).

Having decided on the mounting method, proceed to the following steps.

Find out the dimensions of the window (measure the width and height).

  • If you are going to install the blinds in the first way - in the window opening - you should subtract 2 centimeters from the height. This will help you achieve the result when the slats do not touch the windowsill.
  • If you chose the third method - attaching the blinds overlap - add 5 centimeters to the width, but be sure to on each side. In this case, the height is determined by the wishes of the owner.
  • Installing blinds on windows (for each sash) is considered the simplest and easiest way of fixing. The dimensions of the window must be measured taking into account the fittings, that is, so that it does not limit the window to the robot, does not touch it.

Remember: both plastic windows and blinds must function perfectly and efficiently.

Therefore, it is very important to make accurate measurements before hanging them.

  • Unpack the blinds. Evaluate their quality, inspect for defects, check components. Everything is in place?
  • Lean the blinds against the window. It is important that the body fits between the borders of the glazing beads on both sides of the glass.
  • Attach the blinds tighter. They must be in the same plane as the window.
  • Assess the overall situation. The blinds should be at the top of the transparent area.
  • Record visually the presence of a gap, which is very often formed between the fasteners and the window sashes. The dimensions of the gap can be different and vary from a few millimeters to a couple of centimeters. They do not depend on the correctness of your actions, it is rather the costs of the construction of the window and glass unit. Manufacturers have foreseen the possible risk and, to correct the current situation, equipped the blinds with linings, special elements that allow achieving the desired thickness and reducing the distance between the fasteners and window sashes.

Be sure to pay attention to the signs applied to the base of the linings. They can be of two types: R (from the English word right) and L (left)

Right and left application respectively.

  • Fix the gaskets until a firm pressure is established. Then fix them in the gap between the fasteners and the window field.
  • Mark the mount.

The geometric shape of the curtains is the main guideline for marking. Be sure to check that nothing prevents the window from opening and closing. Install an additional mount in the place where the cord is adjusted.

You can attach blinds using one of two options.

  1. Fastening to the glazing bead. A very delicate process that requires care in choosing the length of the screws. An incorrectly chosen length is the first step towards depressurization of a glass unit, the result is a violation of the thermal insulation properties.
  2. Fastening to a profile is a simple and safe process, but it requires care and precise actions.

Remember! The bead can always be replaced, the profile cannot.

  • Install the structure

Install the blinds using long self-tapping screws. It is advisable that you use the self-tapping screws included in the kit. The aesthetic appearance of the window after the installation of curtains depends on them. This step must be done with great care.

  • Install cornice, runners, slats

Put the decorative cornice on the mechanism, fix the plugs on the sides. Using a drill (the diameter should be 3 millimeters), make a hole for the plastic "mushrooms", they are located in the lower edge of the glazing bead. This will allow you to set the guide line. After pulling it tight, fix and cut off the excess.

  • Control step - checking the functioning of the entire structure

How to take measurements

If you decide not to use the services of a specialist, but to hang the blinds yourself, you need to make the correct measurements, since the convenience of using the curtains will depend on this. If you are installing vertical blinds, you will need to know the dimensions of the window opening. Measure the height and width from the attachment points. Be careful: it is not difficult to shorten long curtains, and adding plates to too narrow ones will not work.

Measurements when installing a horizontal model will be more difficult. If you will be attaching curtains directly to the window, you will need a value for its width and height. You can choose the length of the blinds as you wish: they can be up to the floor or only cover the window sill. If necessary, blinds made of aluminum and plastic can be easily shortened or adjusted using an integrated mechanism.

If the window is deaf, you can fix the curtains inside. For an opening window, separate blinds for each half will do. In this case, measure the width and height of the glass, and then add 2 centimeters at the top and 0.5 centimeters at both ends.

In this case, it is important that the existing window fittings do not interfere with the functioning of the blinds. Measurements are made according to the same principle for the installation of roller blinds.

You can make all the necessary measurements and order blinds according to these data. However, in this case, you will spend more money than buying standard models. To save money, first find out what the dimensional grid is and choose the appropriate fastening method. If you are having difficulty with measurements, watch the instructional video.

Alternative types of installation

It is not necessary to drill a window to attach the blind base. There are other options for attaching blinds to windows. To install roller blinds, you will need the following tools:

  • Double-sided tape;
  • liquid Nails;
  • scissors;
  • ruler or level.

Roller blinds are a smooth fabric that can be rolled up, raised, lowered using a special mechanism. Roller blinds do an excellent job of protecting from the scorching sun rays, while decorating a living space. Consider how to attach roller blinds to plastic windows. This type of curtain is hooked separately to each casement. There are several types of roller blinds, and the method of fastening each type may vary.

Fastening roller blinds to double-sided tape

The Mini roller blinds are classic roller blinds on a compact shaft. They can be easily installed on separate plastic window sashes. The fasteners are fastened without drilling, and thus the frame remains intact. To prevent the fabric from sagging, the lower metal strip should be fixed with special magnetic holders. The window sash can be opened in any way.

Roller blinds are roller blinds that are assembled into a cornice that looks like a compact cassette. This type of curtain is suitable for flaps, plastic or aluminum. The most popular curtain options are Rollite and Uni systems. In models of these designs, strips are provided for double-sided tape. Using these strips, the guides are glued to the sash.

The cassette blinds are controlled by a single chain that adjusts the curtain's height. A special retainer is installed on the window frame, which keeps the chain from sagging when the window is ventilated.

Blinds Isotra

The Isotra and Isolite systems are also popular. A plastic window with this type of blinds can be used in any mode without fear of breaking this system. Fastening is carried out on glazing beads, in which you will need to make small holes. If such glazing beads are damaged, they can be quickly and easily replaced at any time.

Interestingly, the method of attaching blinds to the wall is still used. This type of installation does not harm the plastic window, you just need to make the correct measurements.

DIY blinds installation instructions

The very first step is sizing. You can attach the curtains to the window opening, wall, ceiling. Having determined the place of their future location, it is necessary to make the correct measurements.

To fix the curtains in the opening, you need to take the following measurements. Determine the length - it will be equal to the height of the window glass with insulation (usually a strip of rubber) plus 1 cm.

The width is defined as the width of the glass, but including the sealing gum. Do not forget that the plastic window should open freely when the blinds are assembled.

If you are going to mount the curtains on the wall, then, pay attention, they must completely cover the plastic window. The width will be 10 centimeters wider than the window

The length, taking into account the cornice, increases by about 5 centimeters, its final size depends on whether the shutters cover the window sill or is slightly above it.

When blinds are attached directly to plastic windows, the length will be its height and the width will be equal to the width of the closed window.

We use the drilling method

You can fix the structure using drilling tools, or you can do without them.

Consider how to properly hang horizontal curtains with your own hands directly to the window sash using the drilling method.

Since the curtains are mounted on self-tapping screws, we mark the places of their installation by applying the upper strip of the blinds to the upper window profile. We make holes with a small drill, fasten the brackets.

We fasten the blinds and fasten the fishing line that will hold the lamellas. On the lower part of the sash, again using the drilling method, we make two holes, placing them exactly under the upper exits.

We fix the fishing line in the structure of the blinds, fix the ends with plugs and thread them into the prepared holes, pull the fishing line.

The considered drilling method is usually used when it is necessary to hang roll or horizontal structures.

To hang vertical curtains, this method is also used. Holes are drilled in the attachment points, and they are mounted with the help of connecting elements.

We carry out measurements

It is necessary to decide on the type of blinds (horizontal, vertical) and the method of their installation (on the wall, ceiling, in the window on the sash, in the window opening) before buying. And even until the moment you start measuring. Because different installation methods require different sizes. Only with the correct measurements will it be easy to install blinds on plastic windows.

For everything to work well, you need to make the right measurements.

Another important point: you need to measure each window separately... Sometimes it just seems that they are exactly the same. Believe me, there is a difference. And the measurement results must be recorded and signed, which specific window you measured and which sash it is. Accurate and detailed records will help avoid confusion when purchasing and installing.

Into the window opening

Although the appearance of the products is different, when measuring there is no difference between horizontal and vertical models. If you are going to install blinds in a window opening, it is necessary to subtract 2 cm from its width on each side. You can subtract 1-3 cm from the height of the opening. Such gaps are needed so that the canvas hangs freely in the opening and the lower edge of the lamellas does not rub on the windowsill.

How to measure when installed in a window opening

Please note that it is possible to install blinds on plastic windows "in the opening" not flush with the edge of the opening, but deeper - at the glass itself or by stepping back 5 or more centimeters from the edge. If the opening has a trapezoidal shape, the height / width of the opening will be less for the glass, so we carefully measure

And yet, in this case, it is better to put marks for installation even when measuring. Then you will know exactly where you will need to install blinds on plastic windows so that their dimensions fit perfectly.

Ceiling or wall

Here the measurements depend on your desires. The length of the blinds can be up to the floor or only up to the windowsill. Moreover, depending on the type of installation chosen, the lamellas can cover the window sill or not. So the length is whatever you like best.

This is wall mounting. When mounted on the ceiling, the length will increase., And how much is up to you

The width of the blinds with this installation method is wider than the window opening. How much wider depends on your desire, but the minimum entry is 5 cm on each side. But if the window is in the same plane with the wall surface, you will need additional brackets, which are not included in the package: the lamellas must be spaced at least 5 cm from the glass surface so that they do not interfere with the opening of the sash for ventilation.

On sash

When installing blinds on a multi-sash window, there are two options - to put one device on each sash or order one long one for the whole window. Usually the first option is chosen - it makes it possible to open and close the sashes when the blinds are lowered. If you choose this installation method, you will need to measure each leaf and record the results. The flaps can be different, so be careful.

The option on the right is more convenient

The width of the blinds when installed on the sashes is taken 3 cm wider than the glass. When hanging, the lamellas come in 1.5 cm over the profile. It is convenient and does not interfere with opening / closing windows. The length depends on the place of attachment, but it is usually 5 cm longer than the height of the glass.

Once again, we draw your attention: we measure each sash!

Varieties

Today, the range of building stores includes several types of blinds. Depending on the specific type, the features of fastening curtains change.

Horizontal blinds

Several types of horizontal blinds can be found on sale at once. The lamellas are installed horizontally in them, which explains the name of the structure. The thickness, width and type of material can be arbitrary. The structure can be attached inside the frame, to the frame itself, to the slope or on top of the window block.

Horizontal blinds are most often installed in institutions

Such blinds are installed in offices, industrial facilities and other places. These designs are universal - if you wish, you can find horizontal blinds of almost any color and shade.

Vertical blinds

Due to the design features, such blinds are most often mounted over windows.... The lamellas in this case are oriented vertically, made of plastic or fabric. There are varieties on the market that differ in the length of the lamellas.

Vertical blinds are mainly installed in residential areas

The installation of this model is most often carried out in private houses, but they are also in demand in offices. Installation of vertical blinds is carried out on self-tapping screws... Alternatively, ceiling mounting is practiced.

Roller blinds

Roller blinds are made of fabric, completely cover the glass, if desired, they can be raised by rolling. Installation is carried out using brackets, self-tapping screws or adhesive tape.

Roller blinds can be installed without drilling walls and sashes - on double-sided tape

The need for drilling varies depending on the type:

  1. Vertical structures are mounted on top of a window or under the ceiling. In both cases, you will have to drill the surface.
  2. Horizontal blinds can be attached to the top slope or to the window sashes. Without drilling, such structures can be mounted on the sashes of the window block.
  3. The interframe analog, as you might guess from the name, is intended for installation inside the window itself. This option requires drilling as many holes as possible.

Bracket mounting

  1. Taking into account the dimensions of the device, the places where the brackets will be installed are marked. The distance between them should be 55-60 centimeters. Avoid getting the brackets into the steering mechanism, clips and calipers.
  2. The brackets are fixed to the ceiling, wall or window sash.
  3. Counterclockwise, turn the brackets latches until they stop.
  4. The upper cornice of the product is inserted into the bracket, after which the latch is turned clockwise until it stops.

Drilled installation:

  1. Brackets are installed on the upper part of the sash, and plastic corners are attached to the lower part.
  2. Along the edges of the upper cornice, cables are fixed in special bushings.
  3. The cornice is fixed to the brackets.
  4. A cable is passed along the edges of the slats through special holes.
  5. A second pair of bushings are installed in the lower brackets, through which the cable is threaded and fixed with a screw.
  6. The mechanism is secured with a hook handle.
  7. The handle holder should be directed towards the sash.
  8. After finishing the installation, you should make sure that the structure works.

Installation of a structure without drilling using overhead brackets:

  1. Places for the installation of brackets are marked.
  2. The brackets are fixed with a screw.
  3. A structure is installed on the upper part of the sash, after which it is fixed with a key.
  4. Slip-on lower brackets are attached to the lower part of the sash.
  5. Ropes are fixed in the bushings.
  6. The cornice is fixed on the brackets, after which the cable is threaded.
  7. The plastic sleeves are guided into the holes on the bottom bracket.
  8. Use the screw to fix the cable in the bushing.
  9. A handle hook is attached to the control mechanism, after which a holder for it is installed.
  10. Finally, you need to check the operation of the structure.

Installing blinds inside the frame

It is possible to install interframe blinds to a wooden window of a twin structure or an old plastic one. To do this, the distance between the panes must be at least 3 cm. Mounting the mechanism inside the window is a little more complicated than fastening it to the sash. In addition to fixing the bracket, drills are needed in the frame to ensure the output of the control of the swing-and-lift mechanism.

  • Drill two holes at the top of the inner sash (one above the other) in the profile from the side of the awnings - above the upper awning.
  • Fasten the frame brackets on the upper profile.
  • Snap the curtain rod into the brackets.
  • Unscrew the control cord and thread it through the bottom hole and through the guide spring.
  • Pull out the flexible rod through the upper hole.
  • Use a clamp to connect the flexible rod and the control handle.

How to properly install blinds on plastic windows

10-20 years ago there was no choice of window coverings - only massive curtains and curtains were hung on the windows. Progress does not stand still, and in recent years new types of window curtains have appeared. The most popular now are blinds. In apartments, you can often see a combination of blinds + roman blinds and blinds + curtain. This type of curtain protects the home from the sun, street noise and is able to decorate the window. More and more often, instead of heavy curtains and blinds, compact roller blinds and blinds are used in everyday life. They are much better suited to metal-plastic window frames. They are used both in offices and in residential premises.

How to install horizontal blinds correctly

  • What you need to effectively install blinds
  • Preparatory stage for installing horizontal blinds
  • Step-by-step instructions for installing horizontal blinds

The fashion for bulky curtains that collect a significant amount of dust in record time has already passed, so most people prefer to use light, airy fabrics to decorate the window area. To protect the window of a room from strong sunlight and curious passers-by or neighbors, horizontal blinds are increasingly used.

Horizontal blinds are easy to use, which is why they are popular.

It is not difficult to figure out how to install horizontal blinds, but in this matter there are a lot of subtleties that must be taken into account in order for the mechanism to work correctly in the future and perform its function. Blinds can be made of wood, plastic and aluminum, the latter being the most common, since they are extremely easy to use and can be installed on all types of window frames.

Step-by-step instructions for installing blinds

To understand how to install blinds on windows with your own hands, you need to consider their placement. For example, when using PVC staples, drilling of the frame can be dispensed with. This solution allows you to neatly attach products with a minimum waste of time.

When installing using brackets (for large blinds), work is carried out according to the following scheme:

1. Above the wall or frame where the blinds will be installed, a distance of 10 cm is marked. When marking, you need to use a level, which will eliminate uneven installation of elements.

2. Above the drawn line, the places for fixing the brackets are determined according to the width of the upper cornice.

3. Along the holes in the brackets, the places where the holes for the dowels are prepared are marked.

4. Drilling of the wall is carried out at the marked points, the installation of dowels is carried out.

5. The brackets are fixed on the wall, the upper cornice is installed in them and assembled according to the instructions from the blinds set.

6. Insert the control handle into the hook of the swivel mechanism located on the upper eaves (relevant for a design with a cord and a handle).

7. The correctness of installation and ease of opening of the window is checked when the blinds are fully folded.

In addition to the specified instructions, the video attached to the article will also help you to get acquainted with the details of the installation. Expert tips and accurate descriptions of each step will allow you to complete the work without errors.

Installation instruction without drilling

To install blinds without drilling with your own hands, you do not need any tools or even skills, here it is important to correctly calculate the width of the canvas and attach it evenly to the surface. ... Clips

Clips

Mounting on special brackets-clips is perhaps the easiest way to hang the blinds with your own hands, but this mounting option is possible only on an opening window sash:

  • assemble the curtain rod and canvas according to the manufacturer's instructions;
  • put the clips on the cornice, check if they touch the moving elements and if they interfere with the movement of the cords and chains;
  • attach the cornice to the sash, outline with a simple pencil where to hang the brackets;
  • unfold the canvas, check if it touches the protruding elements of the window, if necessary, the curtain must be adjusted to size: cut in width and shorten;
  • unclip the clips from the eaves, open the sash and put on the brackets according to the marks, make sure that they fit snugly and evenly;
  • you can attach the curtain rod and canvas to it.

The diagram shows one of the options for how to hang blinds without drilling

On scotch tape

If you are looking for a simple and at the same time reliable way to hang blinds on a plastic window with your own hands and not damage the profile, then the option of attaching it to tape is the most optimal. Here it is important to glue the cornice correctly so that the canvas hangs straight down, without distortions, otherwise there will be ugly overlaps and gaps on the sides and bottom, in the end the blinds will quickly break.

Installation steps:

  • assemble the blinds according to the attached diagram;
  • try on the window, if necessary, cut it from the side and along the length, taking into account that the minimum gap between the canvas and the protruding elements of the window is 5-10 mm;
  • mark the extreme points of the cornice;
  • draw a line between them, ideally it should be strictly parallel to the windowsill;
  • if the geometry of the opening is not ideal, make a plumb line from a rope and a weight, attach it to the marks, outline the side lines where the edges of the canvas will pass, and straighten the line along which the cornice will be glued, let it be better to have a slight skew at the top and bottom than ugly gaps and overlaps on the sides;
  • wipe the place where the cornice is fixed with a solvent or acetone;
  • remove the protective film from the double-sided tape, and glue the cornice strictly along the line;
  • check the operation of the canvas, if it clings somewhere, then it will be correct to remove the system, clean the installation site and glue it again.

Sometimes the adhesive tape is not glued to the cornice, but special fasteners with a magnet or hooks are included. Installation of such a model takes place according to the identical scheme described above.

The video clearly demonstrates that even a child and a woman can glue the blinds on scotch tape.

Where to install

Installation of horizontal blinds is mainly carried out on:

  • sash windows;
  • upper frame profile;
  • on the upper slope of the opening;
  • less often on the pier, if the design features of the opening or the design of the room require it.

Installation of vertical blinds is impossible for technical reasons on the sash or window frame, usually they are mounted on:

  • upper wall;
  • ceiling;
  • horizontal slope of the window, if its width allows.

Installation features

Compact and lightweight horizontal blinds can be mounted without drilling. To do this, use special brackets made of metal or plastic, as well as double-sided tape.

All models that need to be installed on a slope, in a wall or on the ceiling are fixed on special brackets that are attached to the surface with self-tapping screws or dowels.

In order not to redo the work, installing the blinds with your own hands, it is better to check and recheck the geometry once again, how the canvas will go, whether the cornice is skewed

Required materials and tools

Now let's look at the fastening with self-tapping screws. This is a much more versatile option that allows you to hang almost any model by any mounting method (on the ceiling, in the opening or on the walls).

First of all, you should pay attention to the quality of the fasteners supplied with the blinds in the kit. Sometimes manufacturers (especially this statement applies to cheap Chinese-made models) put too short and thin self-tapping screws made of low-quality steel into the kit

If you plan to fix heavy structures to the ceiling, it may be worth purchasing something more reliable.

Also for work you will need:

  • Measuring tool: pencil, ruler with bubble level, tape measure.
  • Drill. A drill for a drill is usually used No. 6.
  • Dowel and hammer.
  • Mounting brackets (usually included with the product).
  • Scissors.
  • Screwdriver.

Having prepared a set of tools for work, you can start.

Installation of horizontal structures

In order to easily install horizontal products on plastic windows, you need to prepare a screwdriver and a screwdriver in advance. In this case, the upper part of the product should be put on the brackets. Mark in advance the places where you will need to screw the screws. Try to keep the fasteners as small as possible, of course, without compromising the reliability of the fix.

After all measurements, remove the brackets, and using a screwdriver, screw the parts sequentially into the marked places. It is necessary to check whether all the clamps hold, whether they sag under the weight of the structure. Fabric blinds are fixed without self-tapping screws. They are also fixed with brackets, but glued to the profile.

Vertical blinds are installed in a similar way. If installation to the ceiling or slopes is chosen, then special slats are first installed. This is also done with screws. Then everything goes according to the usual plan with brackets. But if you are attaching the blinds to the wall, then first you need to install a special cornice. Also, unlike horizontal models, vertical products also need to be assembled. But they are sold complete with instructions, so you can complete the task without any effort.

First, collect all the runners, turn them right side to you. Then the slats are inserted into the runners. You will know that the parts are connected at a click. It guarantees a tight bond. Special weights are inserted into the lower part of the lamellas, fixed by a chain. You can test the blinds and their operation right on the floor, before mounting on the wall. After all, otherwise you will have to remove them again and it is better to fix the lamellas. The vertical louver mechanism must operate smoothly and without any jerks.

Specialization: Master in the construction of plasterboard structures, finishing works and laying floor coverings. Installation of door and window blocks, decoration of facades, installation of electrical, plumbing and heating - I can give detailed advice on all types of work.

If you need high-quality protection of windows from sunlight or prying eyes, then the simplest solution is to install blinds on the windows. This option has a number of advantages: low cost, ease of installation, and the ability to purchase products of any size. In the review, we will figure out how you can fix the structure, the methods of carrying out the work are different, so you will definitely find the right one.

Overview of mounting options

Now let's go directly to the workflow. When installed in different ways, the size of the blinds changes significantly. Therefore, I strongly recommend that you first read this section, choose the method that is most suitable, and only then order blinds according to the recommendations that will be given in the corresponding paragraph.

There is no need to rush, in construction and repair, this always leads to unnecessary costs or problems during work. Only after understanding all the nuances, proceed to the selection of the product and its installation.

Method 1 - fastening inside the opening

A very common solution that has a fairly simple workflow and is highly reliable. Do-it-yourself blinds installation on a plastic window can be done in several ways:

  • On the top of the window frame, this is a very popular solution due to its simplicity;
  • On the wall above the window, if the space in the opening allows this;
  • To the top of the opening, if it is not possible to use any of the above methods.

If you decide to use this particular option, then here are some recommendations on how to choose the optimal size of blinds:

  • The width of the system should be 4 cm less than the width of the opening, that is, you should have 2 cm gaps on both sides. This is necessary not only for the free movement of the structure, but also for the normal fastening of the upper box, since it can be wider than the lamellas themselves;

  • The height of the system must be 2 cm less than the height of the opening. But there is an important nuance - if one or two doors open, then the box should be positioned so as not to interfere with the work of the structure. If this does not work out, then it is better to use the option of fastening to the sash, which we will describe below.

To carry out the work, we need the following:

Equipment Description
Mounting brackets
Blinds You must purchase a ready-made kit according to the dimensions above, taking into account the above recommendations. Usually the structure is assembled and you only need to see if the cord is tangled.
Mounting brackets Most often they are included, but sometimes you need to purchase them separately. For example, if you are going to mount the system to the ceiling, then the wall bracket may not work, although many modern manufacturers come with universal elements that can be used for any type of work.
Screwdriver With its help, self-tapping screws will be twisted, if you fix the blinds on the frame, then no other power tool will be needed
Puncher It is necessary when drilling an opening for installing dowels, with which the mounting brackets will be fixed. Naturally, the set must include a drill of the appropriate diameter and length.
Measuring tool Of course, you cannot do without marking, a level, ruler or tape measure and a pencil are used for work. It is important to place the blinds evenly, so do not do the work by eye

Now let's figure out how to properly install the structure:

  • First you need to unpack the blinds, make sure that everything is in order with them and there is no damage. Then the box is tried on to the opening, you have to check if everything is in order and if all the dimensions match, it will not take much time, but everything will definitely be in order. If the sashes at the window open, then be sure to check if the box interferes with their movement, do not miss other trifles like handles on the windows, the blinds should not rest against them;

  • Using a level, you need to mark the horizontal on the surface, just put a couple of dots or strokes so that you can orient yourself on them in the process of work. Next, brackets are applied and the points of drilling holes are marked, if you will be attached to a wall or the top of the opening, in case of fixation to the frame, you must also put points in the right places;
  • If you need to drill holes, then this part of the work is done, after which plastic dowels are inserted, holes for screws are obtained with which the fasteners will be fastened. In cases where you are attached to PVC, you can immediately screw special screws into plastic, they fit well into the material. It is much easier to work with a screwdriver, although a regular screwdriver will work;

  • If the brackets are installed correctly, then it will not be difficult to fix the container with blinds in them, it simply snaps into the fasteners. The structure must be held securely and not move in the attachment points;
  • Last but not least, the operation of the system is checked, everything should move easily, without any problems and obstacles.

Method 2 - fastening outside the opening

Now let's figure out how to install the blinds outside the opening ourselves. This option is suitable for cases where the window is recessed shallowly into the wall and if you need to darken the room as best as possible, there are two ways of fixing:

  • If the window is located deep, then the structure is installed on the wall above the opening;
  • When the window is flush with the wall or slightly deepened, the installation is carried out on special brackets;
  • Sometimes fastening is made to, such a system is more often used in vertical blinds due to their large size.

Now let's figure out how to determine the optimal size of the blinds in this case:

  • The width of the product should be 10 cm wider than the width of the opening, so that from each side the system goes onto the walls by at least 5 cm, this will ensure high-quality darkening. The height can be 10 cm more than the opening if the window sill does not protrude or the size is calculated individually if there is a protrusion;

When hanging the box, do not forget that it should not interfere with the opening of the doors, the easiest way is to place it along the upper line of the opening.

  • If the window is flush with the wall and the blinds are mounted away from the wall, then the width of the structure should be at least 20 cm wider than the opening in order to ensure high-quality darkening. As for the height, it is determined based on whether the system will be lowered below the opening or will lie on the windowsill.

To work, you need the following list of tools:

  • A hammer drill with a drill of the right size;
  • Level and pencil for marking;
  • A screwdriver or screwdriver for tightening the fasteners.

The instructions for carrying out the work look like this:

  • First, you need to attach the blinds to the opening to make sure that you are not mistaken with the width. Using the level, marks are made in the right places, after which it is necessary to determine the exact position of the mounting brackets and mark the points at which these elements will be attached to the wall;

  • Drilling is carried out at the marked points, so as not to constantly check the depth, wrap electrical tape on the drill in the required place and navigate along it when working, so you will not make the holes too deep or too shallow;

If your structure is more than one and a half meters wide, then you should hang it not on two, but on three brackets to ensure the necessary rigidity and strength. For larger sizes, it is better to use aluminum products, they are less susceptible to deformation and retain a clear geometry for many years.

  • Attaching the brackets is quick and easy if you've drilled holes in the right places. The workflow is simple: first, plastic dowels are inserted and pressed against the stop, after which the supporting elements are attached and fixed using the screws included in the kit. They can be screwed in or simply hammered in with a hammer, the reliability of the fastening does not suffer from this;
  • The last stage is as follows: you need to insert the container into the latches, make sure that it is fixed securely, after which you can start checking the system's performance.

Method 3 - fastening to the sashes with clamps

Now let's figure out how to install plastic blinds on plastic windows, although the process is the same for products made from other materials. This option is great for windows in which one or more sashes open, separate elements are attached to each half of the glazing, which allows you to open not the entire opening, but part of it. In addition, such solutions do not interfere with the opening of windows, which is also important.

Fastening is always done to the frame, and you can do it as indicated in the first method - using self-tapping screws. But such a solution has one significant drawback: if you decide to remove the blinds, then holes will remain on the surface, which you will hardly be able to get rid of. Therefore, it is better to use the technology from this section, then the frames will remain intact.

Let's consider how to determine the optimal size of the blinds in this case:

  • The width of the structure should be 3 cm more than the width of the glazing, that is, the overlap on the frame is 1.5 cm... It is important that the system does not rest against the handle and does not interfere with opening the window;
  • The height should be 3-5 cm higher than the height of the glass unit.

In this case, we need the following set of materials:

  • Blinds in finished form with a U-shaped upper part;
  • Plastic clips that are specially configured to be mounted on the frame and snapped into the shutter box;
  • Bottom holders that will fix the blinds in a taut position and prevent them from sagging, even if the window is open.

As for the tool, we do not need anything at all - only hands and the desire to carry out the installation without assistance.

Installation of blinds on a plastic window is carried out using the following technology:

  • First you need to open the sash and wipe it with a cloth, the structure must be clean;
  • The latches are placed on the frame on both sides of the sash with an indentation from the edges of at least a few centimeters if the width is large or the blinds are massive, then three fasteners can be used;
  • Last of all, under the outer part of the holders, the shutter box is started until it clicks. The protrusion of the retainer should fit into the groove in such a way as shown in the diagram below, everything is quite simple and easy;

  • Lastly, clips are installed at the bottom of the frame. It is important to clearly mark their position so that the open blinds are taut and not dangling. When the markup is complete, you can attach the elements using self-tapping screws or using double-sided tape so as not to damage the window profile.

Method 4 - mounting on universal brackets

This option resembles the one described above, but also has a number of differences, so it should be considered separately. It also does not require drilling the sashes, no tools are needed to work, and the main fastening element is a universal mount, which is suitable for blinds, and for roller blinds and pleated blinds. That is, you get a platform on which you can mount different systems.

The list of materials and the measurement process is no different from the above option, so we will start right away with the installation process. The work is carried out in the following sequence:

  • First, you need to clean the surface of dust and degrease it, this will allow us to fix our elements as reliably as possible;
  • Then you need to stick double-sided tape to the back of the clips. There are different options in stores, choose better products that are designed for attaching heavy objects, so as not to worry about the reliability of the structure;

  • The bracket is inserted into the fastening platform if necessary, if you will fasten the structure to a blind sash, then the latch is not needed. This is a very big plus, since in the previous case it is impossible to attach blinds to blind doors without self-tapping screws;
  • Then a bracket of the configuration we need is attached to the base, short self-tapping screws are used for work so that they do not protrude from the back side;
  • Further, the elements are glued to the surface in the required places, and in the case of opening flaps, they are also snapped onto the upper end;
  • Last of all, the shutter box is fixed - and the structure is ready for use, everything is simple and quick.

If you are thinking how to install plastic blinds on windows, then this option is perfect, because the structure is lightweight and double-sided tape will easily hold it.

Output

Installation of blinds can be carried out without hiring specialists, any of the above options for carrying out work is within the power of even an inexperienced master. Horizontal blinds are made of wood, plastic or aluminum. They are highly resistant to sunlight. Depending on the type of fastening, the blinds of the horizontal type can be interframe, attic and ordinary. The rich color range of products will harmoniously decorate any house, apartment or office space.

Aluminum blinds are considered the most convenient of all horizontal ones. These "light protection devices" have one very important advantage - the ability to be installed in places where curtains or blinds of other types cannot be used for a number of reasons. Aluminum blinds are made from aluminum tape with high strength characteristics and coated with a special compound.

Benefits of horizontal blinds

Blinds are compact, reliable and affordable - it is thanks to this that they have long and firmly entered our life. They are installed not only in offices or in the kitchen, but also in the living room, nursery and even in the bathroom! After all, their moisture resistance is beyond praise! Aluminum products provide sufficient light and sun protection for a comfortable stay in the room, and also reliably hide from prying eyes.

And also blinds:

  • do not absorb dirt and dust;
  • do not deform;
  • easy to care for;
  • do not accumulate static electricity.

Interesting! "Standard" aluminum horizontal blinds is a basic combination of functionality, reliability and elegance. This is the best choice for the kitchen, office.

Horizontal Venetian blinds allow you to successfully combine the availability and reliability of aluminum construction with a "natural" interior, which is dominated by woody shades.

Perforated blinds , with the effect of "dense tulle" are suitable for connoisseurs of soft diffused light. They are good for the living room, nursery, bedroom.

But in order for the products to serve your home really faithfully, it is very important to know how to install horizontal blinds correctly.

Installation instructions for horizontal blinds

Mounting of horizontal blinds can be carried out to the ceiling, to the wall, in the opening.

Measurement of horizontal blinds

  1. Determine the overall dimensions (height and width) of the product based on the design features of the window opening. If the installation of horizontal blinds will be carried out directly in the opening, it is advisable to subtract one or two centimeters from the estimated width of the product (correction for uneven slopes).
  2. Determine the optimal position of the controls - to the right or to the left.
  3. Determine which type of fixing will be used - standard twist brackets, fixing to tilt-and-turn sashes with drilling or without drilling.
  4. Determine the length of the control handle: standard - 2/3 of the height of the product.

Note! The smallest possible width of products is 22 centimeters. As for its maximum, it is 220 centimeters with a guarantee of trouble-free operation. You can be tempted by 300 - but then no one will give you a guarantee.

Maximum height: 250 centimeters - if guaranteed, 300 - if not.

Installation of horizontal blinds - step by step

Installation on twist brackets

  1. Based on the overall dimensions of the light protection device, mark the installation locations of the brackets. The distance between them should be at least sixty centimeters. The brackets must not be caught in the steering mechanism, rope retainer or caliper.
  2. Attach the brackets to a window sash, ceiling or wall.
  3. Turn the bracket latches all the way (counterclockwise).
  4. Insert the upper cornice of the product into the brackets, turn the latches clockwise until they stop.

Experts note that when self-installing horizontal blinds, video instructions from professionals are often not superfluous.

Installation on tilted windows with drilling

  1. Install the twist brackets on the top of the sash; on its lower part, install the corners (lower plastic brackets).
  2. Fasten the cables in special bushings; Install the sleeves through the springs into the holes along the edges of the upper cornice.
  3. Pass the cable through the holes along the edges of the slats.
  4. Insert the second pair of bushings into the holes of the lower brackets, pass the cable through them and fix it with a screw.
  5. Attach the handle hook to the control mechanism.
  6. Install the handle holder on the plate onto the sash.
  7. Make sure the entire structure is working.

Installation on inclined windows without drilling - on captive brackets

  1. Mark the locations of the brackets.
  2. Fasten the twist brackets using the supplied screws on the flip top brackets.
  3. Install the "structures" on the upper part of the sash and fix them with a special key.
  4. Install the flap lower brackets on the lower part of the sash.
  5. Fasten the cables in the bushings; install the latter through the springs into the holes along the edges of the upper cornice.
  6. Attach the curtain rod to the twist brackets.
  7. Pass the cable.
  8. Integrate the plastic sleeves into the holes in the lower brackets.
  9. Fix the cable in the bushings with the screws.
  10. Attach the hook of the handle to the control gear.
  11. Install the pen holder.
  12. Check the functionality of all structural elements.

The fixing scheme for horizontal blinds, if you really understand, is quite simple.

Installation of horizontal blinds: video instruction on installation on a plastic window

Detailed instructions for installing horizontal blinds are presented in this video.

Horizontal aluminum light protection devices, of course, do not need any extra care. However, this does not mean that they can be "left to their fate."

They need to be cleaned of dust about once a week. For this purpose, you can use a vacuum cleaner with a soft, fluffy attachment. It is also not forbidden to manipulate with an ordinary dry soft cloth.

If the blinds, for a number of reasons, require a thorough "big wash" (often these are structures on balcony or kitchen windows), then you should proceed as follows:

  • dismantle the structure;
  • wash the lamellas with warm water using a detergent (soap, shampoo, a little washing powder). Boiling water is "contraindicated" !;
  • rinse them thoroughly with water and wipe dry;
  • return the blinds to their place for final drying;
  • remove dried water stains with a rag. And voila - your blinds shine again!

Please note - in no case should water get onto the upper cornice with mechanisms. And one more thing: if your blinds are white, try to avoid detergents that contain ammonia - this can provoke the appearance of yellow spots on individual lamellas.

Blinds, 10 years ago, looked like a real foreign exoticism, today they have firmly entered our life. Most office spaces and institutions have moved from using standard blinds to universal blinds that are less dusty, sturdier looking and incredibly comfortable.

Blinds are used even in classic-style rooms, as their functionality, ease of maintenance and appearance are excellent. In addition, blinds provide effective protection of spaces from sunlight, make it easy to adjust the level of illumination in the room, and reliably screen the room from prying eyes.

The installation of blinds should be carried out in accordance with all the rules, otherwise you risk getting a lot of problems: the canvases will not move, the curtain will be difficult to assemble, etc. A high-quality installation ensures the blinds have a long service life. When installing, you need to take into account the design features, the specifics of the walls (or window frames) in the room.

PVC window manufacturing companies offer blinds in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. Depending on the destination, blinds are made from:

By type of blinds there are:

These types differ significantly in the location of the lamellae and in the installation methods.

Vertical blinds are rare in ordinary living spaces; they are more often used in offices. They are mounted over the top edge of the window, similar to curtains, although this may adversely affect their functionality. Roller blinds and horizontal blinds are more often used at home instead of traditional curtains. They are installed not only in the window opening, but also over the window.

Roller blinds are mounted on the front surface of the corner of the upper slope of the window profile.

Blinds with horizontal slats can be mounted directly on the window profile, on each sash. Often, horizontal slats are complemented by curtains with curtains. Installing blinds directly on the window profile saves valuable space in the room itself and frees up space on the windowsill.

The blinds are made up of:

For windows with a non-standard shape, you need to use slats of a special length, which will best provide the light protection of the room.

If your window has two sashes, then when installing the blinds, pay attention to the location of the blind lifting mechanism (right, left).

Three ways to install blinds:

  • overlay;
  • for each casement of the window separately;
  • directly into the window opening.

The factory set of blinds usually includes all the materials for their installation: screws and self-tapping screws, as well as other parts.

The choice of installation option is related to the design features of the window: it is a little easier to install blinds on standard double-leaf windows than on inclined dormer windows. One of the most difficult is the installation of blinds on PVC windows, since working with plastic, in comparison, say, with wood, has a number of specific features. The installation of the cornice on plastic windows should be carried out as carefully as possible and it is better to do this in the warm season (at temperatures above +5 degrees Celsius).

The installation of the blinds on the window sash can be carried out using self-tapping screws, brackets or by drilling holes in the frame. This is the most durable and reliable.

Important! The tightness of the profile when attaching the curtain rod to it by drilling does not suffer. If it becomes necessary to remove the cornice, and holes remain in the frame, they can be filled with white silicone sealant.

If you don't feel like drilling holes, use brackets that attach to the frame without drilling.

Important! In most cases, the blinds can be fixed to the screws that are already in the window profile. This mounting method is no less reliable than drilling holes. You can learn about the possibility of such a simple installation from the blinds manual.

Blinds installation progress

After unpacking your blinds, read the instructions. Installing blinds means: measure the window and adjust the size of the blinds to it; then install the mountings for the cornice and the cord system; collect the strips on the cornice and check the system performance.

Measurements are necessary so that later it would be convenient to use the light-shielding cloth, without complaining about distortions or frequent breakdowns. It is especially important to verify the dimensions of the canvases and adjust them to the place of attachment if the window opening has a specific geometric shape.

Before screwing, you need to mark the position of the fasteners with a pencil, checking them with a level and a tape measure in order to avoid a skewed fit and leave an opportunity for adjusting the container, and also so that the strips do not go beyond the window glass.

2. Installation of cornice and lamellas

Before installation and direct installation, it is necessary to mark the fasteners with maximum accuracy and symmetry. Additional fastening must be provided for the control cord so that the structure can withstand the additional load. All elements are fixed to the wall with screws or dowels. Next, the installation of the cornice is carried out. The slats and runners themselves will be attached to it. The rigidity of the structure is guaranteed by the upper cornice bar, so there is no need to additionally strengthen the bar with glue, sealant or foam - it is fixed quite rigidly.

When reinstalling, measure the width of each window sash so that the window fittings do not interfere with the free hanging of the lamellas. Also, when choosing the installation "in the window opening", you need to decrease the height on each side by 2 cm so that the canvas does not touch the window sill. To fix the blinds close to the plastic window, you need to drill the plastic frame of the window according to the markings - pre-drilling will prevent cracking of the plastic.

If the plates on which the blinds are hung do not fit tightly to the window profile, use shims.

Brackets for blinds are screwed into the holes with self-tapping screws. Next, the brackets must be fastened upwards with latches and a container with blinds inserted into them.

The lower holders are attached as follows: lower the curtain to mark the lower points (the canvas should be loosely stretched). Drill the holes along these marks, into which the lower holders must be screwed, fixing the canvas in the "micro-ventilation" position. Make sure the staples sit firmly in the plastic.

When installed overlay, the width must be added by 5 cm so that the entire opening is closed. The height is freely adjustable and can go up to the windowsill or the floor itself.

There are a number of modern methods of installing blinds, involving the installation of a curtain rod with lamellas on brackets that are attached to the window frame without drilling. The striped cornice is simply hung on the brackets and snapped into place. The design is collapsible, which allows you to remove the blinds when you need to wash the window glass or wipe the lamellas. This is the easiest way to install blinds.

Features of installing blinds by type

Vertical blinds

Before starting the installation of vertical blinds, you need to decide whether a wall or ceiling mount for the cornice will be more convenient. The height of the light-shielding sheet depends on the place of attachment of the cornice.

The thickness of the guide for vertical blinds should be at least 5-6 cm, such a gap will provide free movement of the lamellas. If there is an obstacle between the blinds and the wall (batteries, etc.), then you will need to install an additional bracket, which is not included in the kit, you must buy it separately.

If you want the blinds to be at some distance from the wall (there are different cases: a pipe, etc.), you must additionally purchase a bracket

For vertical blinds, the order of suspension of the slats is also important: they must be attached to the cornice in the same order that was in the factory box. Also, before starting the installation, it is necessary to determine the correct direction of the hangers. Correct position when, when closed, you do not see a seam on the material of the blinds.

Remember to set the lower weights on the vertical strips to keep the canvas looking flat. Loads from the outside and inside are connected by a chain. The plumb line is attached to the cord that is included in the kit. Different manufacturers use plumb bobs of different shapes.

There are many different types of vertical blinds in stores, but they are often unreliable. The safest thing to do is to mount the blinds using a pair of brackets that need to be screwed to the wall with self-tapping screws.

Roller blinds and horizontal blinds

Horizontal and roller blinds, as well as vertical ones, are equally conveniently installed on the wall, attached to a window or ceiling. The main thing is to clearly measure out whether the canvases will interfere with opening the window. If this happens, in the strips, if possible, you need to cut a hole in advance for comfortable opening of the window sashes.

When attaching to double-sided tape, do not forget to properly dust and degrease the surface.

You yourself have seen that self-assembly of blinds is quite simple, if you know a few tricks that make this process easier. Good luck using your own blinds!
