Polypropylene pipe reinforcement

Polypropylene pipes are products that have many advantages generated by the features of manufacturing. Among them:

 1. Polypropylene pipelines are perfectly suitable for cold and hot water, but there are restrictions for hot, up to 95 degrees, it can be exceeded shortly. But this feature rarely pay attention to, since the feed for apartment buildings of hot water is this number and limited. Therefore, when the deficiencies of polypropylene are discussed, it is mentioned by this particular feature (to withstand the temperature only to a certain value), you can safely acquire them - boiling water under 100 degrees in the pipes still will not flow.
 2. The coefficient of thermal expansion is quite large. Polypropylene allows you to compensate for the expansion at high temperatures, due to its flexibility, although there are situations where the bias of the pipes are extremely undesirable, especially when they are laying under the layer of plaster or screed.

To neutralize these features and reinforce the polypropylene water supply. For reinforced expansion water supply and high temperatures are not terrible, it does not expand, it is not deformed with a sharp heating to high temperatures.

ATTENTION: It is impossible in all cases to rely only on reinforcement. At a flow temperature having a value of more than 100 degrees (with constant heating), there is a possibility that in places of connection with fittings the material will begin to soften, the water supply itself simply will not stand the pressure!

Polypropylene reinforcement today is applied different:

 1. Fiberglass mesh. This option is considered one of the best, pipeline is obtained five-layer: two layers of polypropylene and three layers of reinforcement. At the same time, the average layer is a peculiar mixture of fiberglass and polymer.
 2. Aluminum foil is the most frequently used method of reinforcement, which is the use of aluminum layers with a thickness of from 1 to 5 mm. Such a layer can be outside, inside either in the middle between plastic layers. The foil is connected using glue, such a pipe can be solid or perforated.

The cleaning of the reinforced part in this case is necessary in order to remove the reinforcement layer from the place where the welding of individual plots of water supply will occur.

Why do you need stripping reinforced part?

The polypropylene layer can be soaked in several ways:

Scheme of stripping reinforced pipes before melting for connection.

 1. External stripping. This method is used when the foil layer on the pipe is external. The reinforcing foil must be removed, since when welding, the layers of plastic and aluminum are connected extremely badly, that is, if not removed the metal layer, the attachment of individual pipes will be very substantial. Therefore, with the help of a special tool, the outer layer of the pipe with a foil is completely removed to the depth needed to put on fitting and welding individual sections.
 2. If the reinforcement layer is inside the pipe, the method at which the foil is removed inside the cavity is applied. Here to remove foil, if the pipe is melted when welding is only outside? The fact is that aluminum should not be contacted with water in places of fastening, otherwise electrochemical processes begin inside the water supply, and this will cause the entire reinforcement, that is, to the bundle of the pipe, reduce the strength of the connection, leaks and other things.

For fiberglass reinforcing polypropylene, cleaning is not required, since the grid in this case is located inside the pipe, that is, when melting it, it does not contact fittings, water is also not afraid. Therefore, polypropylene tubes with a layer of fiberglass often prefer, despite its higher cost. Fastening in this case is more reliable, additional works before that is not needed. Such pipes are welded without stripping.

Tools for stripping pipes

For stripping, a widest tool is applied, this is a carrier, manual stripping, special nozzles for a drill that works in automatic mode. Hand tools have removable or non-removable handles that allow you to work with them with great comfortable, and special nozzles are used with conventional drills without impact mode, they are inserted instead of a bora.

When working with a drill, it is necessary to be more attentive, since polypropylene - the material is very soft, the process of stripping should occur without damage.

To perform stripping and pipe connections, you need to prepare such tools:

 • simple pencil for level mark;
 • roulette;
 • soldering iron for polypropylene pipelines;
 • cutting scissors;
 • selected enroll tool.

Stripping outdoor and inner layer: Eliminate everything too much

In order to clean the outer layer of reinforcement, you can use a simple coupling with knives inside. The coupling is put on the end of the product, turns, the cut after that it turns out smooth and very smooth, the operation itself takes only a few seconds.

The carrier allows you to remove the middle layer, the blades have it from the inner end of the tool. The process is as follows: the carrier is put on the end of the pipe, several revolutions are performed, after which you can start a soldering.

Nozzles for ordinary drill make it possible to remove the inner and outer layer of pipe reinforcement. The nozzles are put on instead of bits on a drill, carefully controlling the turnover is removed by a layer of foil, after which it is possible to begin welding pipes. Select the nozzle should be in accordance with the types of reinforcement for the pipe.

The stripping of the reinforced polypropylene product is necessary in order to remove the thin layer of polypropylene and reinforcement itself to prepare pipelines to welding. In this case, the material is removed to the depth, which is required for putting on fitting. You can perform stripping using a special tool, the work itself does not take a long time, you can use not only manual, but also automatic tools that facilitate the preparation of the pipeline.

Pipes for pipes of two types: Technology and tools

What kind of pipe varieties is required? What is it needed for? What tool is used? Finally, how to correct the pipes in each case? In the article I will try to answer these questions.

Types of pipes

In stripping in one way or another need:

 • Black steel pipes. They are cleaned of rust and other pollution under painting and hand-cutting threads;

In the second case, a rust is not simply removed from the ends of the pipe. They have an approach for a dice or clupp - the outer chamfer is removed at an angle of about 15 degrees to the longitudinal axis.

 • Polypropylene Pipes with reinforcement aluminum foil.

Why it is necessary

Steel

Stripping before painting is designed to ensure maximum adhesion of paints to the base. Painting over rust (especially layer) guarantees the detachment of the decorative - anti-corrosion coating in the shortest possible time. An alternative sweep is the use of rust transducers - phosphating compositions that convert iron oxides into a solid and chemically resistant film directly to which LKM can be applied.

Agree to paint professional in this state without stripping - not the best idea.

The occasion when cutting the thread allows you to chop the first threads with a minimal clamping force. The greater the angle of the chamfer, the stronger you have to press the cry to the end of the pipe. If the chamfer is absent, the tool even with the maximum clamping force does not enter the pipe or take over the first thread threads once again.

Polypropylene

Why do you need stripping for reinforced polypropylene pipes?

I will start from afar.

Polypropylene has two problems associated with its work in hot water and heating systems.

 1. When heated, the strength of the pipe on the gap drops. If at +20 PN 20 pipes are able to withstand the hydraulic pressure of 20 kgf / cm2, then when heated to maximum 95C for it, the allowable pressure decreases to 7-9 atmospheres. Nothing surprising: polypropylene - typical thermoplastic with all the consequences of this;
 2. The polymer is very high (even compared to other plastics) a linear expansion coefficient when heated. If you raise the temperature of the pipe for 50 degrees, each meter will lean by 6.5 millimeters.

Both problems are successfully solved reinforcement.

It can be performed in two ways:

 1. Mixing in the melt of the polymer fiber - chopped glass or basalt fiber. The average reinforced pipe layer is fused with the layers of pure polymer without reinforcement into a single integer in the extrusion process;
 2. Inserting between two layers of polypropylene layer aluminum foil Thick about 0.5 mm. The quality of the pipe reinforced by aluminum is highly dependent on the technology of its manufacture and used.

Typical working pressure of reinforced pipes - 25 atmospheres (as indicated by the designation "PN 25" in marking). When heated it decreases to 10 - 12 kgf / cm2. The elongation during heating is also noticeably reduced:

The steel pipe in similar conditions is lengthened by 0.5 - 0.55 mm.

For obvious reasons, the pipes reinforced by Foil are most in demand for DHW and heating. However, a happy buyer is waiting for one unpleasant surprise: aluminum forms galvanic pairs with copper and steel, which are often present in heating circuits and DHW.

A small foil thickness causes it to collapse due to electrochemical corrosion in contact with water literally for 2 - 3 seasons. As a result of its destruction, the pipe at the end, inside the socket fitting, begins to decrease with the concomitant process with a catastrophic drop in strength. A relatively weak hydrate or noticeable heating finally completes the career of this pipeline.

Obvious solution to this problem - remove aluminum reinforcing layer from welding zone. The stripping of polypropylene pipes is the preparation of the end of the pipe to the spawning with the fitting, which reduces the cutting of the foil from the surface of the pipe (with external reinforcement) or between the two layers of polypropylene (with internal).

Tools

Steel

Steel pipes are preparing under painting using:

 • Manual metal brush;

 • Similar on the functionality of nozzles for a drill or a grinder.

Cleaning the profile tube can be partly automated. The simplest machine for stripping pipes from rust is a cartridge with a brush sandwiched into it, placed on the shaft of the electric motor, and a movable stubborn roller with a fixation mechanism that allows you to process the pipes of an arbitrary cross section. The pipe slowly stretches through the machine manually with a rotation of 90 or 180 degrees between the sequential passages of the brush.

In the photo - the simplest machine for stripping rust with proftrube.

How can I prepare the end of the pipe to the cutting of the thread?

 • Flyingon metal;

 • Bulgarianwith cutting circle of steel;

Crop the pipe will have to plane a circle. Avoid applying great efforts: the fragments of the broken circle often become a cause of serious injuries.

 • Finally, in the absence of a more appropriate tool, a pipe with a diameter of 15 - 25 mm can be simply smiling in a circle with a gas key or heavy hammers.

Polypropylene

The enlightened tool for polypropylene pipes is most often called - stripping. In stores with more qualified merchant, you can find more accurate names:

 • Shaiver is a stripping for outdoor reinforcement;
 • The carrier allows you to cut the foil layer, gluing in the middle of the wall, between the layers of the polymer of about the same thickness.

And this tool can be manual (with a notch on the outer surface or comfortable handles), designed to be installed in the cartridge of a drill or perforator. Often it is completed with a pair of knives, allowing you to remove the outdoor chamfer from the end.

Nozzle - Sheer under the punch of the perforator.

The price of the tool is determined by the size, functions and manufacturer. Here, for example, the cost of the line of carriers from Valtec, intended for installation in the punch cartridge.

Technology

I sincerely hope that the instructions for stripping pipes from rust and chamfering does not require a respected reader: it is a simple mechanical work devoid of any subtleties.

Stripping for polypropylene pipes with their own hands is extreme more difficult:

 1. After examining the pipe cut, pick up a suitable tool (shaper or a carrier);
 2. Insert the pipe in its clutch;
 3. Make a few full revolutions.

The knives of the carrier remove reinforcement to the depth of only about 2 mm. Trumpet sweep takes from 5 to 15 seconds.

Conclusion

We will consider our acquaintance with distefront technologies that took place. Additional materials, as always, can be studied when viewing a video in this article. Waiting for your additions and comments. Successes, Camrads!

Procedure for stripping the pipe (in its classical understanding) lies in the removal of the part of the outer layer of polypropylene and aluminum foil from the edge of the pipe so that with coupling thermal welding, the pipe and fitting can be welded. Some "specialists" believe that since pipes reinforced in the middle do not require stripping of the outer layer of polypropylene, they are optional to clean and from the end of the pipe. However, it is not.

Process stripping pipeEspecially large diameters is quite labor cost. Many of the installation organizations with pleasure would escape the need to remove the aluminum layer before welding. And when a tempting and easy way to achieve this, some installers, despite the recommendations of the responsible manufacturers, and often even knowing nothing about them, began to mount the systems without using a charging (carriageous) tool.

Fig.2.Trucks for pipes reinforced by foil in the middle. View from above.

As the brief empirical experience of installing and operating polypropylene pipes, reinforced by aluminum in the middle without a mechanical stripping of a metal, there is nothing critical in the short term. The pipes without stripping are standardly welded, the system is pressed, they allow water, and everything seems to be good.

But, as the millennial experience of human civilization shows, free cheese is solely in mousetrap. The main reason why most of those responsible to the consumer manufacturers are advised to use special end stripping, this is a vehicle electrochemical corrosion of aluminum foil leading to the bundle of the combined pipe and its operational degradation.

Polypropylene pipes having smooth inner surfaceIndeed, they do not overgrow and are not subject to corrosion, however, in the case of reinforced in the middle and reinforced "from within the pipes", they can not only influence (polypropylene swells inside, partially breaking the inner section), but also partially contracted due to aluminum corrosion.

After reading everything written above, the inexperienced user or installer can exclaim in the hearts: "How is everything confusing! I will do better system on metal plastic "(approx. Generally accepted pipe title with PEX / AL / PEX layer structure). However, you should not hurry, everything is really simple and understandable. We take the classic pipes with reinforcement closer to the outside edge of the pipe. Mondering that in almost any little, a large object is a perforator, we buy for a relatively small money a special enrollment nozzle on the perforator and without much effort, using the adjustable torque of the tool, remove the outer layer of polypropylene along with aluminum. For those who have no perforator, and it accounts for different sizes of pipes, you can advise the novelty of the enlighted tool - handharyer (stripping) on four main pipe size (20, 25, 32, 40 mm).

The only pipes that for the most part possess the properties of reinforced pipes and do not require stripping, are so-called fiberglass pipes. Such pipes have a three-layer structure with a middle layer of a compound (mixtures), in which the fiberglass and polypropylene premix is located. That is, in the process of welding, this layer from the end can also be welded, and even more so it will not enter into chemical reactions and corrosive. Since all three layers of pipe data contain polypropylene and are basically the same type, these pipes are manufactured by coextrusion method, i.e. The layers of the pipe are superimposed on each other at one point in time. At the same time, there is no need to skip any layer of pre-through a water bath, and use the binding layers of adhesive.

Polypropylene pipes due to operational parameters, aesthetic appearance and convenience of assembly, often apply in the installation of engineering communications. Thanks to the reinforcement technology increases the reliability and durability of pipes while maintaining all the technological characteristics of polypropylene, pipes on their qualities are not only comparable to metal, but also exceed them. .

However, for long-term and reliable operation of the pipeline system, proper processing is required, stripping ends when connected.

The reinforced pipe is a product with three layers: two polypropylene and one reinforcing. A constructive reinforcing shell provides storage of strength in the event of sudden temperature changes.

Such an indicator is as a coefficient of temperature elongation by 6% higher in pipes with aluminum reinforcement, which increases the durability and reliability of the pipeline in which reinforced pipes are used.

The presence of an aluminum layer in the polymer tube allows you to maintain high temperatures and prevents breaking the communications in the system. Tempera tour jumps are compensated by the flexibility of the reinforcing base. Reinforcement is performed in two ways:

 1. With the help of fiberglass.
 2. With the help of aluminum foil.

Reinforced products are produced both with a solid web aluminum foil and in the form of grid with perforations. A viscous polymer flows through aluminum holes, and creates a solid adhesion with a protective layer, increasing the reliability of pipe products even with increased high-temperature loads.

What requires stripping

If the reinforcement of fiberglass does not require additional stripping of the ends of the pipes, then when installing aluminum, it is required to remove and clean it.

When installing, the melted aluminum does not give a hermetic connection with propylene, and it is necessary to eliminate the contact of the metal with water in places of pipes and fittings, and avoid corrosive processes.

Attention! In the process of stripping, an oxidized layer and all sorts of pollution from the surface of polypropylene pipes are removed. Thus, the edge of the pipeline is prepared for the performance of a reliable welding joint.

Methods and technology stripping

Getting Started with the installation of reinforced pipes, you must first select a stripping tool. It can be both manual and mechanical devices.

Cleaning and reinforcement of polypropylene pipes are not the most difficult tasks, but they have many nuances. This will be discussed in the article.

One of the advantages of polypropylene pipes is a long service life. They can be used at times longer products made of metal. But the service life largely depends on the quality of the installation work. It is possible to maximize it in the event that a cleaning of reinforced polypropylene pipes was performed correctly.

It plays such a high role due to the fact that the presence of various irregularities and burrs will prevent a reliable connection. Even during the planning of the installation of the polypropylene pipeline, it is necessary to delve into what is required by this procedure. It is also worth dealing with which existing tools for stripping polypropylene pipes (read: ""). Separate attention should be paid to products with a reinforcing layer.

Features of the reinforcement of polypropylene pipes

The high performance properties of polypropylene pipes are achieved due to their coating with a protective layer. If we are talking about products intended for household use, then its thickness is usually no more than 0.1 mm.

Advantages of reinforced pipes:

 1. Reducing the impact of high temperatures on the product. The usual polypropylene tube is designed to operate under conditions when the temperature does not exceed 95 degrees. This is usually enough to install heating systems or domestic water pipes. However, in certain situations, for example, emergency, the temperature of the transported fluid may exceed the maximum allowable value. Such a mode of operation leads to the fact that the pipelines are deformed or completely fail. Reinforcement reduces the effect of high temperatures on the product, preventing the system breaking.
 2. Increased resistance to temperature differences. One of the main mines of conventional polypropylene pipes is the exposure to temperature differences. The result becomes their sharp expansion and narrowing. The product does not tolerate such deformations, gradually losing their initial properties. Over time, the pipes simply fail. To avoid such a situation, they are additionally reinforced.

However, reinforcement has one essential disadvantage. It complicates the welding of polypropylene connections to some extent. For this reason, it is predetermined for pipes. The procedure is extremely simple: removal of the upper thin layer of aluminum from the product. If this is not done, the quality of welding will decrease, which will lead to a decrease in the life of the entire pipeline.

It is important to perform work carefully, understanding the general principle. To better figure it out, study the technological process, as well as blank the necessary tools. Detailed information on these issues will be set forth later in the article.

Stripping polypropylene tubes

There are several ways of stripping, each of them is intended for a specific reinforcing layer.

Outer layer. If the reinforcement is applied as the top layer of the polypropylene tube, it will be an interference when the design with the fitting is connected. Then the pipe part of the pipe melts during the installation. If you fail, the melted aluminum will not be able to rest on the molten polymer. In this case, nothing will ensure the tightness of the connection. It will break immediately after starting the system.

The inner layer. Despite the fact that aluminum is not used between polypropylene layers, it is not used when welding, it still needs high-quality stripping. It is necessary in order to prevent the interaction of aluminum and water. If the pipeline occurs in the pipeline of potentials, that is, the risk of electrochemical processes. They can completely destroy the aluminum layer.

Prompt! It is possible to impose a reinforcing layer of aluminum or with holes. If there is a choice, the second option is much more preferable. The perforated aluminum layer is characterized by a good clutch, also does not need glue for it. In addition, stripping pipes with perforated aluminum is produced much faster.

Reinforcement fiberglass. In this option, cleaning for polypropylene pipes do it yourself. A thin wall of fiberglass is located between the polypropylene layers. It does not contact with the fitting, also does not experience the effect of fluid. One of the advantages of this method is that reliable fastening of pipes is achieved without additional work. But hence the following drawbacks - on such products, sharp temperature differences have a greater impact than the options with aluminum reinforcement.

Tools for stripping

There are manual and mechanical enrollment tools for polypropylene pipes. Manual devices are excellent for performing work at home. If a more voluminous task is to be needed, then mechanical tools will be required.

Tools for stripping tools:

 1. Stripping for the outer layer. To remove the outer aluminum layer, special coupling applies, in the middle of which blades are placed. In such devices there are handles (removable and non-removable), significantly simplifying workflow.
 2. Torkers. In such an instrument, the blade is located on the coupling's inner end, and not outside. The carrier is in a pipe, then you need to do several complete revolutions. This allows you to get the perfect cut. Then you can move to the welding of products. Such pipe stripping tools are also used for other species, and not just polypropylene. Even those that without a reinforcing layer are suitable.
 3. Shaiver. This is a special nozzle for a drill, used for stripping both the inner and outer pipe layer. There are shavers intended for different types of reinforcement. They differ in diameter.

An important nuance! It is worth understanding the difference between the cleaning of pipes before welding with the cleaning of metal products. These are two different types of work. For each of them, various equipment applies. In addition, they have different technological processes, which should also be taken into account.

Also, for stripping polymer pipes, you will need: a roulette, the desired enrollment tool, a building pencil for applying marks, a soldering iron, and scissors, pipe cutters or hacksaw. These are in-demand tools, they can be found in almost every home.

To get the perfect cut of the pipe, you should use high-alloy steel tools. It is preferable to choose bilateral solutions. Such a tool is effective when working with products of different diameters.

Perform sweep for polypropylene pipes is not particularly difficult. One person can cope with the task, no special knowledge for this. Also not required expensive tools. Simple machines will completely cope. Even with their help, the sweep will be able to produce quite well and neatly. It is enough just to prepare everything in advance, carefully studying the technological process of this task.
