How to make do-it-yourself mosquito nets for plastic windows: 3 easy ways to do it yourself

Greetings. Today I will tell you about the manufacture of mosquito nets for plastic windows.

Methods for making mosquito fences for modern double-glazed windows are of considerable interest, since factory structures break down after a couple of years of constant operation. Of course, you can order a new mesh, but why resort to the services of professionals if you can cope with the task on your own using available materials and a simple tool?

In this article, we will look at the technology for assembling an anti-mosquito barrage from a purchased kit. In addition, I will tell you about the methods of making a barrier mesh from scrap materials.

Types of meshes

What types of mosquito nets for plastic windows can you order and buy today? It turns out that there is plenty to choose from!

According to the design, the following types of meshes are distinguished:

  • Frame - the most common option that comes with most windows in the basic configuration;

  • Velcro - an option for lovers of compact and easy-to-use things that, if necessary, can be easily folded for storage or just washed;

  • Rolled modifications are an expensive option, which are equipped with expensive modern double-glazed windows;
  • Sliding modification - is a mesh frame that is shifted relative to each other in the guide grooves.

There are many more varieties of nets, but this article is not about this, but about what you can do with your own hands at home.

So let's get down to an overview of what you can do yourself.

Method 1 - assembling a mesh from a purchased kit

The kit includes the following components:

  • 3 frame profiles 1.5 meters long;
  • Cross-section impost 75 cm long;
  • 4 connecting corners;
  • 2 brackets for the installation of the impost;
  • 2 handles;
  • Short and long brackets for attaching the finished structure to the window frame.
  • The mesh is 1.6 m long and 80 cm wide;
  • Rubber cord 4.6 m long;
  • Self-tapping screws.

To work, you will need the following tools:

  • Assembly knife;
  • Electric drill;
  • Drill for metal with a diameter of 2.5 mm;
  • Hacksaw for metal;
  • Curly screwdriver or screwdriver with curly bat;
  • Roulette.

The instructions for assembling the mosquito structure are as follows:

  • We measure the light clearance of the frame in height and width;
  • We transfer the dimensions of the light clearance to the profile (you can read more about the calculations in the explanations to the instructions);
  • We cut short and long profile pieces according to the markings;
  • In accordance with the measurements, we cut an intermediate profile - impost;
  • Using the side corners, we collect a rectangular frame;

We assemble the frame so that the groove for fixing the mesh is located along the entire perimeter on one side.

  • We install brackets in the side ends of the plank under the impost so that they are located with recesses in one direction;

  • We install the impost in the groove around the frame and align it to the center;
  • We unwind the mesh along the assembled structure from the side of the groove on the frame;

  • On the one hand, starting from the corner, press the sealing cord into the groove;

  • Immediately insert the handles into the groove and press with a sealant;
  • Having passed one side of the frame, we stretch the mesh and continue to insert the seal around the entire perimeter;

The gasket must be inserted in such a way that the mesh is evenly stretched and does not wrinkle. If there are folds, pull the installed cord out of the groove, and then refuel it so that the folds disappear.

  • Cut off the excess cord and cut off the excess mesh;
  • We attach brackets to the seamy side of the frame (short at the bottom and long at the top) and mark the holes for fastening with self-tapping screws;
  • Using the markings made, we drill a profile to a depth of 3 mm;

  • We attach brackets to the holes and fix them with self-tapping screws;

The distance between the brackets installed at the top or bottom must be equal to the width of the light path or 2 mm less. If the distance between the brackets is greater than the width of the skylight, the brackets will not fit into the frame.

  • We push the finished mesh into the frame opening, we hook the upper brackets to the profile, and then we hook the lower brackets to the profile from below.

If the mesh fits tightly into its seat, then the installation can be considered complete, if the assembled structure does not fit into the opening or hangs in it, you need to rearrange the brackets so as to compensate for this defect.

Explanations for the installation work

So you've got a general idea of how how mosquito nets are made on windows... Now let's take a closer look at how to correctly measure the dimensions so that the frame you made fits well into the frame opening.

It would seem that what could be easier, measured the opening and you're done. In fact, everything is a little more complicated.

In our case, the width of the light clearance is 445 mm, and the height is 1250 mm. How do I know the correct dimensions for the frame?

Calculations are carried out according to the following formula:

  • Height - minus 20 mm, it turns out 1230 mm
  • Width - minus 40 mm, it turns out 405 mm
  • The length of the impost is equal to the width of the light clearance, minus 30 mm, which is equal to 415 mm.

The given formula is universal for any light clearance, you just need to insert the current dimensions.

Method 2 - we assemble the mosquito fence from the cable channel

From materials and tools, the following will be required:

  • Cable channel 15 × 10 mm (length is selected in accordance with the perimeter of the frame opening);
  • Metal corners for assembling the frame and for making handles;
  • Plastic profile with a U-shaped cross-section;
  • Mosquito net with mesh side no more than 2 mm
  • Riveter - a tool for working with rivets and rivets with a head diameter of 7-10 mm
  • Miter box and hacksaw for metal

Installation instructions are as follows:

  • We take measurements of the frame opening, and then add 40 mm to the length, and 20 mm to the width;
  • According to the measurements made, we make marks on the cable channel;

  • Using a miter box and a hacksaw, we saw 2 short and 2 long pieces with ends cut at 45 ° so that we can assemble a rectangular frame from them;
  • Remove the covers from the pieces of the cable channel;

Riveted joint - inside view

  • We connect the pieces of the cable channel using corners and rivets into a rectangular frame;

Riveted joint - front view

  • We lay the frame on the floor with the open side up;
  • We spread the mesh over the frame;
  • We align the mesh so that there are no folds and with force we snap the covers onto the cable channels;
  • Cut off the mesh along the edge;
  • Cut the U-shaped profile into two pieces with a length along the width of the frame made;

  • We fasten the pieces of the profile at the top and bottom of the window, as shown in the figure, so that the frame with the mesh will fit into the installed holders.

The finished structure, subject to correct assembly, is no less durable than products assembled from a purchased kit.

Method 3 - installing a mosquito net directly on the frame

So we learned how to make framed mosquito fencing. But, despite the fact that the installation in both the first and second cases can be done by hand, the price of the necessary materials will be at least $ 10.

Is it possible to make an insect barrier for the price of nylon mesh and nothing more? It turns out that there is such an opportunity if there is an unnecessary clothesline on the farm.

We need the following materials and tools:

  • Polymer mesh, cut to fit the sash plus 1 cm on each side;
  • Clothesline, preferably synthetic, with a diameter of 4 mm;
  • Acute segmental;
  • Measuring tool.

The rope or cord must have a diameter of 4 mm, no more and no less. If it is 3 mm, the cord will fall out of the groove, and if it is 5 mm, it simply will not fit into the groove.

The instructions for installing the mesh are as follows:

  • Open the sash and find the alignment of the edges of the sealing cord on the frame;

  • Carefully pull the cord out of the groove;

At this stage, the seal can be washed, wiped dry and hidden until the onset of the cold season.

  • We wipe the groove from contamination with a double-folded rag;
  • Cut the mesh so that on each side it protrudes about 10 mm beyond the groove;

  • Starting from the top of the profile, press the mesh into the groove with a cord, pressing it evenly;

  • Gradually stretching the mesh so that there are no folds, we press the cord along the entire perimeter of the frame.

The finished result is good because such a barrier against mosquitoes, as unnecessary, can be removed and replaced with a seal, and the folded mesh will not take up much space during storage, unlike a bulky frame structure.

Self-repair of the frame mesh

When inaccurately pulling the frame out of the brackets or simply due to long-term all-season operation, the corners break on the mosquito net. What to do in this case? Of course, do the repair yourself, especially since it's easy to do.

The essence of the breakdown is that the profile from which it is made is aluminum, while the connecting corners are made of plastic, and therefore less durable.

If the plastic corner breaks, it will need to be replaced. You can buy corners in the organization that installed the windows.

The repair instructions are as follows:

  • Turn the mesh upside down with the side where the sealing cord is visible;

  • With a knife, carefully pry the seal from the corner where the breakage occurred and pull it along the entire side to the opposite corner;

  • Along the entire side, freed from the seal, carefully remove the mesh from the groove;
  • We pull out the broken corner from the adjacent profiles, and on the other side the whole one;

  • Insert new corners into the profile on both sides, so that the groove for the seal on the corners coincides with the groove on the profile;

Pulling a piece of the old corner out of the profile will be very difficult. Therefore, in order not to waste time and effort, push the chip further into the profile, and then insert a new corner.

  • We pull the mesh over the groove and insert the seal;

  • Press the sealant along the entire groove with a screwdriver or other thin object.

Actually, the repair can be considered complete on this, and I hope that this instruction was useful to you.

Conclusion

Now that you know how mosquito nets are made and repaired by yourself, you can protect your home from mosquitoes and other insects.

Still have questions about assembly instructions? Ask your questions in the comments, I will be happy to answer them. And of course, don't forget to watch the video in this article.

The mosquito net is assembled from ready-made kits or used for making materials at hand. When planning how to make a mosquito net with your own hands, it is important to take into account the features of the window structure and the nuances of operation.

Before proceeding with the independent manufacture of a protective addition to double-glazed windows, you should understand the varieties and design features of mosquito nets. Models are classified according to the type of attachment to the frame, canvas material and functionality.

Frame type grids

Frame structures, as one of the most popular types of mosquito devices for plastic windows, are distinguished by high performance characteristics. Products are most often made from PVC or aluminum profiles. Features of frame grids:

  • the model is focused on standard double-glazed windows;
  • installed both inside the light unit and outside;
  • appreciated for ease of installation, ease of use, durability, resistance to climatic influences.

The anti-mosquito frame is used in the arrangement of window structures made of PVC, as well as aluminum and wood.

There are 3 types of frame structures:

  • model with soft polymer handle. Fixation with rubber is provided, service life - within 2 years;
  • with a solid plastic handle. The model is equipped with special fasteners for installation, the service life varies from 5 years;
  • with a metal handle. Frame mosquito nets in this category are highly durable, fixed with rivets, and can reliably serve for 10 years or more.

Products are made to order according to the overall parameters of the equipped window unit.

If you are planning a do-it-yourself frame mosquito net on a plastic window, it is important to make accurate measurements, taking into account the nuances of the installation.

Frameless mesh

The popularity of flexible options for mosquito supplements to plastic windows is due to the ease of installation and operation. For example, a model with adhesive tape can be easily attached to the frame from the outside. The solution attracts by its availability, simple and quick installation, and undemanding maintenance.

Burdock versions of protective cloths are easy to dismantle, store in a compact form and, if necessary, install for reuse. Frameless nets with fixation on hooks, on a magnetic mount are also relevant.

Roll

Anti-mosquito products in this category demonstrate high functionality and aesthetic qualities. The roll-up design resembles roller blinds. The box with the shaft is located on the upper line of the window system, the roll is moved with the help of rollers and guides. The product provides for mounting on a frame or in a skylight.

The original design transforms the cellular sheet into an effective addition for large glass units. If desired, you can easily pick up a model in horizontal or vertical variations. Rolled mosquitoes are presented in a relatively expensive segment. It should also be borne in mind that the structure is difficult to install on your own; specialist help is required.

Sliding mesh

Products are most often nylon fabric and aluminum profiles. Sliding mosquito nets are relevant in the arrangement of balcony windows, and are also actively used as a protective complement to the light blocks of country houses. The model is equipped with a system of guides and rollers, the blade moves in the lateral direction. The solution is not suitable for all windows, it is made to order.

Requirements for mosquito protection

Among the key requirements are the operational resource of the anti-mosquito, design features and the possibility of self-assembly. When choosing mosquito protection for your home, consider the following points:

  • characteristics of the canvas. In the manufacture of mosquito nets, polyester, cotton, nylon, fiberglass are used. Synthetic solutions are highly durable, natural options are valued for their hypoallergenicity;
  • cell sizes. The material with very fine 0.6 mm cells contributes to absolute protection against mosquitoes, midges and other stinging insects. This creates an obstacle to air exchange. Since the surface over time becomes clogged with dust particles, pollen, as a result, the fine-mesh mesh practically does not allow air to pass through. The standard cell sizes of the protective sheet vary in the range of 1-1.2 mm;
  • functionality. When arranging window systems in an apartment with pets, the “anticoshka” mosquito model is a priority. The solution provides for a high-strength metal mesh fabric that can withstand the weight of a mustache-tailed pet if he decides to jump out into the street through the window.

If there is a need for protection against seasonal allergens in the form of pollen, poplar fluff, street dust, choose a model of "anti-dust" mosquito with a canvas made of twisted polyester threads.

Optimal type of mosquito net fastening

Mosquito protection is attached to the window frame in various ways:

  • on plunger pins. If the size of the frame corresponds to the dimensions of the sash being equipped, installation is carried out using a plunger mount;
  • on the ears. Z-shaped fasteners are pre-screwed on the frame from the outside, the frame of the mosquito net is fixed on them;
  • on the hooks. The frame is equipped with special elements that, when installed, the mosquitoes cling to the frame;
  • on scotch tape. Adhesive tape is used to attach the cellular fabric to the frame of the sliding structure;
  • with Velcro. Frameless mosquito protection options are fixed with Velcro.

The anti-cat protection system provides several additional mounts to keep your pet safe. The optimal type of fixation of the mosquito is selected individually, depending on the features of operation.

Options and making a mosquito net yourself

If you plan to make a mosquito net with your own hands, they often use ready-made solutions for self-assembly. The set for the frame structure includes a set of fasteners, a cellular fabric, a seal, a profile, and handles. It is also important to make a structure with your own hands on the basis of a cable channel. For an economical arrangement of a window system in a private house, it is easy to make a frameless version of a mosquito.

Tools and materials

To assemble a mosquito net from a purchased kit, you will need the following tools:

  • electric drill;
  • screwdriver;
  • hacksaw for metal;
  • tape measure, assembly knife.

Screwdriver - a tool for making a mosquito net with your own hands

The ready-made set includes:

  • frame profiles - 3 pcs. length 1.5 m;
  • impost - transverse profile - 75 cm;
  • bracket for impost - 2 pcs.;
  • corners - 4 pcs.;
  • mesh - 1.6x0.8 m;
  • rubber cord - 4.6 m;
  • handles - 2 pcs.;
  • self-tapping screws.

The set is complemented by brackets of different lengths for fastening the product to the window frame.

Preparatory work

At the beginning, measurements are taken, given that the quality of a homemade anti-mosquito depends on the accuracy of the parameters of the window opening. If the light beam width is 445 mm at a height of 1250 mm, the correct frame dimensions are calculated as follows:

  • 445-40 = 405 mm;
  • 1250-20 = 1230 mm;
  • the length of the impost corresponds to the width of the opening - 445-30 = 415 mm.

The measurement formula is universal, you can insert the current parameters of the light unit and calculate the dimensions of the planned frame for the mesh.

Stages of manufacturing and installation of frame sashes

The measurement results are transferred to the profile and the workpieces are cut in the form of long and short profiles plus an intermediate element - impost. Next comes the stage of assembling the frame and fixing the cellular fabric with a sealant:

  • collect a rectangular frame using connecting corners;
  • fix the brackets and install the impost, aligning them in the center;
  • the mesh is applied to the frame from the side where the groove is, and starting from the corner, it is pressed in together with the sealing cord;
  • in the process of fixing the mesh into the frame, insert the handle into the groove and press it with a cord;
  • then the web is stretched by pressing the seal along the perimeter of the structure. At the end, cut off the excess sealant and cellular fabric.
  • in the lower and upper parts of the profile, points are marked for self-tapping screws;
  • drill holes to a depth of 3 mm;
  • carefully fix the brackets with self-tapping screws so as not to pinch the profile.

A self-made structure is pushed into the frame opening, first they are hooked with the upper brackets for the profile, then the lower elements are fixed.

Manufacturing and installation of frameless protection

When deciding how to make an inexpensive mosquito net for the window with your own hands, they often take on handy materials. It is not difficult to build a protective device against mosquitoes, midges and flies on the basis of a mesh cloth and a clothesline.

Tools and materials:

  • nylon mesh;
  • synthetic rope d4 mm;
  • segment knife;
  • roulette.

Sequence of work:

  1. The canvas is cut to fit the sash with a margin of 1 cm around the perimeter.
  2. Open the sash, carefully dismantle the standard seal. Then it should be rinsed and stored before the onset of the cold season.
  3. The groove is cleaned of dirt.
  4. The perimeter of the mesh is fixed in the groove together with the rope, starting from the upper corner of the profile.

Stretch the fabric evenly to eliminate wrinkles. This type of mosquito and fly barrier is easy to dismantle and put away for seasonal storage, and the window seal can be inserted back into the groove.

With the arrival of warmth, hordes of insects are revived and one cannot live without mosquito nets. Only they are able to protect the premises from the ubiquitous insects. And then some copies manage to leak somewhere. But since the nets are for some reason very short-lived, they have to be replaced and repaired. You won't call a company representative every time and pay pretty decent money for a job that takes at most a couple of tens of minutes. That is why they are trying to make / fix / install a mosquito net with their own hands.

Types of mosquito nets

  • Framework. This is a frame made of a metal-plastic profile, on which a mesh is stretched. The mesh is attached to the frame using special fasteners: Z-shaped brackets or plungers. This design is the most common, as it protects well from insects at a low price. The cost of making a mesh is from 500 rubles per square meter.
  • Rolled. Arranged as roller blinds or blinds. In the upper part of the window, a roll with a net is attached. Pulling on the edge, the mesh is lowered and fixed. When released from the latch, it rises up. An excellent device, but the price is from 5.5 thousand rubles per square meter.

    Roll nets - good, but expensive

  • Swing nets. The mesh is stretched over the frame, but the frame is reinforced, with a larger section than the frame mosquito net. It is most often installed on doors - balcony or entrance, can be installed on windows. It is attached to a door or window block using conventional hinges. So that it does not open under gusts of wind, magnets are built into it. The estimated cost of this type of nets is about 2 thousand rubles. per square.

  • Sliding. These are nets specially for sliding window systems. They also have a frame on which the mesh is stretched. BUT this frame moves along special guides that are screwed on from the outside. Thus, it is possible to move the mesh to the place where the sash is open.

    Sliding - on the same system aluminum windows

  • Plisse. By the way of action, it is similar to a roll, but it is not going up, but to the side. There are two guides - from above and from below, along which the grid folding into an "accordion" moves on wheels.

    Pleated mosquito net - original and not cheap

As you can see, there are many types. Nevertheless, frame structures are used in 90% of cases. At a low price, they create a completely normal level of comfort.

Types of fixing frame grids

Most often, it is the frame mosquito nets that are installed. There are two ways to attach them: Z-brackets and stems (plungers).

When fastened to brackets, they are mounted from the street side. In most cases, this is convenient and, if circumstances permit, choose this particular installation method. In this case, the dimensions of the mesh should be larger than the light clearance of the window sash: the frame is inserted from the outside.

When using plungers, the mesh is also attached behind the glass, but the clamps (rods) themselves are located on the side of the room. This device is convenient on the ground floors: it is impossible to remove the mesh from the outside. When installing the mosquito on the rods, its frame should be equal to the size of the skylight. It cannot be done with an accuracy of a millimeter, and to ensure that there is no gap, a brush is attached around the perimeter. It prevents insects from seeping.

How to measure the order window

Quite often, a frame with a mesh is ordered from a company, and they are installed on the windows on their own. When ordering, you will be asked to provide the dimensions of the skylight. The required measurements are taken with the sash open. You are measuring the distance from one gum to the next: width and height. Measure in several places, record with millimeter precision. The accuracy depends on how the grids will fit your window.

Watch how to measure windows for ordering a mosquito stack in the video.

What you need to know

When ordering or buying a mesh for a window, you need to pay attention to its characteristics. Firstly, it is available with different mesh sizes: from 0.6 mm to 1.2 mm. The smaller the clearance, the less likely the insect will "seep", and the less fluff there will be. But at high density, air also does not pass well, which in the southern regions can be critical. Therefore, the best option is somewhere in the middle of 0.8-1, mm.

The mesh is also produced from different materials:

  • Cotton. Cotton thread has high UV resistance. Its fleecy structure increases its "stopping" ability: insects do not crawl through such a net. But since the fiber is natural, it reacts poorly to moisture, is often affected by mold and rot, and therefore is rarely used.
  • Polyester. Most common material. It is strong enough and durable, for all it has a low price, but does not possess any special properties.
  • Nylon. A special anti-allergenic mesh is made of nylon. It is produced using a special technology with complex weaving. Thanks to this, it even retains dust and pollen. Such nets are often referred to as "anti-dust" or "anti-allergy".
  • Fiberglass. It is considered optimal, as it has high transparency: when using such grids, the degree of illumination remains almost unchanged. Moreover, its strength is very high - even comparable to the strength of metal. Fiberglass is used to make a mosquito net "anti-cat", which can support the weight of the animal and does not break under the claws.

If no special properties are needed, choose the usual one - made of polyester. Sometimes they may ask what color the mesh is needed. The most invisible to the eye is gray, so you can order it.

How to install a frame mesh on a plastic window

You have received a ready-made mesh. It comes with 4 small Z-brackets (brackets). Please note that they have shelves of different sizes: two by 4 cm and two by 2.5 cm. Brackets with large shelves are installed at the top of the frame, with smaller ones at the bottom.

Z-shaped brackets have different shelf lengths

For attachment to the frame, for each stop bracket you will need 2 self-tapping screws with a screw, which are also called "seeds". You will need a marker with a thin lead or soft pencil. You will need a drill with a 2 mm drill bit and a screwdriver or screwdriver.

Outside the window frame, we draw a strip 3 cm below the edge.We stand on a small step-ladder or on a chair, we take the frame with a net outside the window, we ourselves also protrude halfway. Attaching the bottom edge of the frame to the drawn line, mark its top.

You can do without manipulating the frame: you need to accurately measure its height, and set aside this value from the line drawn at the bottom. From the resulting point, lay up another 1.8 cm and then draw the second line. We will align the fastener shelves along it.

We take brackets with long walls. We apply so that the ledge is on the line. With respect to the light clearance from the edges, you need to retreat about 10 cm. Mark the points where you need to make holes. We carry out a similar operation with the "short" brackets from below. To check, measure the distance between the marks at the top and bottom. It should be 1.8 cm longer than your frame.If everything is correct, we drill holes in the profile (drill 2 mm), install the brackets on the "seeds". Actually everything, we can assume that the mosquito net is installed by hand.

Now take the net by the handles, turning it a little sideways, bring it out into the street. Insert the upper edge into the upper brackets, align vertically, lift up to the stop, wind the edge behind the lower brackets and lower it. The mesh stands supported by brackets.

It is removed in the reverse order. Grab the handles, lift up to the stop, remove the lower edge from the brackets, feeding the mesh slightly away from you (a couple of centimeters, no more). Then, leading it down a little, pull it out of the upper brackets.

Installation on corners

There is one more type of fasteners, similar in principle of "work" with brackets - corners. When installing this type of clamps for a mosquito net, it is also necessary to accurately measure the width. To do this, you will have to find the center of the skylight, from which to set aside half the width of the mesh. The inner part of the corner should correspond to the width of the frame with a mesh with a small gap - 2-3 mm for freedom of fixation.

That is, in the presence of this type of fastening, they fix the corners and should stand in width exactly at the corners. In height, during installation, we leave the same gap of 1.5-1.8 cm. It provides the ability to install the frame in the mountings, and is held due to the fact that the upper shelves are larger.

Do-it-yourself mosquito net: we assemble it ourselves

As you can imagine, you can assemble the frame and stretch the mesh yourself. All components can be bought at firms that sell spare parts for plastic windows. The following components will be needed:

  • profile for mesh frame MFP2;
  • impost profile (transverse partition with a mesh height of more than 1 m) MFPI and two fasteners for it;
  • mesh fabric;
  • corners for assembly;
  • sealing cord (rubber or even woven);
  • handles - 2 pcs;
  • countersunk head screws with a drill, dimensions 3.9 * 16 mm;

Assembling the frame

The frame consists of two long profile sections and two short ones. They are connected to each other using corners. They can be plastic (cheap, but short-lived material) and metal, painted with white or brown paint (to match the profile).

They also often put an impost - a jumper, which is installed approximately in the middle of the long side. It increases the rigidity of the structure and prevents long profiles from playing.

The lengths of the profiles must be cut taking into account the fact that they are going to the corners. Therefore, 20 mm is subtracted from the width and length of the light opening (how to measure it is described above) - it is this length that is replaced by the corners.

Saw off from the profiles in two pieces of the required length. It is better to cut with a hand saw for metal - you get a smoother cut with almost no burrs. It is brought to smoothness with a file or sandpaper. Then on a flat surface - it is more convenient on the table, laying the profile with the grooves up, fold the rectangle, insert the corner holders - the grooves are also up. In the photo, the grooves are directed downward, but this is inconvenient - you then have to turn the frame over.

With the normal coincidence of the corners and profiles, they should be inserted tightly. It’s very tight. Put your hands in place, it will not work. You will have to knock, and in order not to damage the plastic, use a lining - a wooden block or a piece of chipboard, as in the photo.

When assembling, check the corners as well. They must be strictly 90 °, or the frame will be oblique, and there will be cracks in which mosquito flies can crawl through. After the rectangle is assembled, we install the impost. We saw it off 2-3 mm shorter than the resulting width of the frame, insert the holders on both sides, fix it on the frame in the groove.

Stretching the mesh

Spread the mesh onto the assembled frame. It should be 3-5 cm larger than the frame on each side: it will be more convenient to pull it this way. We take the cord, press it through the mesh into the groove. You can start from one of the corners, or you can start from the middle of the short side, alternately moving to the right and then to the left.

The cord comes in quite hard, in workshops it is rolled up with a roller; in its absence, any object with a rounded surface can be used. A knife handle is suitable - office or kitchen knife, screwdriver holder, scissor handle, etc. Straightening the mesh, insert the cord.

Installing handles

Having reached the place of installation of the impost, we put the handles. Usually they are thin, plastic, inserted into a groove under the mesh, then pressed with a cord. There is a second type of handles - they are denser, sometimes - with a metal base, screwed onto the self-tapping screws to the profile, but after the mesh is stretched. If you have a choice - take metal or at least plastic, but thick ones. Plastic ones are very flimsy, they often break.

If in the process the mesh is crooked, the cord can be pulled out by prying it with a screwdriver or something similar, corrected, and rolled up again. Having finished stretching, check at several points the width and height of the frame. If there are deviations somewhere, then in this place the net is stretched too much It is loosened by pressing a little with the palm of your hand near the frame. If this does not work to equalize the width, the cord is pryed off and pulled out at some interval. Having aligned the width, holding the mesh, refill again.

If all the dimensions match, you can cut the cord, tuck in the tail, then walk along the profile again, checking the evenness of the “entry of the seal. Now the protruding edges can be cut off. This is usually done with a clerical knife. That's it, the mosquito net is assembled by hand, you can start installing it on the window.

An example of an assembly can be seen in the next video. This is a promotional video: the company sells ready-made kits for self-assembly. The process is not detailed enough, but you can consider in general terms.

Homemade mosquito nets: saving the full

If we calculate the cost of all spare parts, take into account the loss of time for their purchase and assembly, then the profit is dubious. Components are still sold to you at a higher price than to firms. It can only be useful in the sense that after self-assembly, you can easily repair it yourself.

However, there are some very inexpensive options for homemade mosquito nets. They are made according to the frameless principle, they are mounted directly on the window. There are two ways to do this:

  • Velcro - knitted tape, which consists of two parts - a tape with hooks and a counter with a rough surface. The mesh is cut out a little more than the light opening, the mating part is sewn to the mesh, and the part with hooks on the sticky layer is attached to the frame along the perimeter of the window.
  • On the sealing cord. It is inserted into the place of the standard seal. To do this, remove it (pry it off and pull it out), pull the mesh over the opening, press the cord into the groove. The principle is the same as for setting the mesh into a frame.

Replacing the handles on the mosquito net

A do-it-yourself mosquito net can be made for windows and doors of any size, taking into account the peculiarities of their configuration.

The standard element of a plastic window has a lot of advantages, which is why people use and install an outwardly quite modern, homemade mesh with magnets in a wooden window.

The mosquito net has a certain operational period, upon completion of which, its design gradually begins to deteriorate.

As a result, you have to repair it, order a new one or save money - try to make it yourself.

This article explains how to make a mosquito net.

Manufacturing options, simple and complex

In order to protect against annoying insects, it can be used for both wooden and plastic windows.

The following materials will be required:

  • nylon material with small cells (1.2 mm);
  • Velcro tape (one side - pile, the other - hooks);
  • construction glue (for fixing the mosaic).

Before installing the mosquito net, degrease the surface around the perimeter inside the window opening. This is the mount on which the adhesive tape will stick.

Be sure to make sure that the future installation does not become an obstacle when the plastic window is closed.

Then do the following:

  • Divide the sticky tape into two pieces. On the part with hooks, on the back, apply glue and glue it around the perimeter of the window opening. Let dry and fix more firmly;
  • Adjust the nylon material under the window opening, with an allowance equal to the width of the tape;
  • Fold the allowance, sew a tape with a pile outward to it;
  • Attach the finished mosquito net, lined with fleecy tape along the edges, to the tape with hooks glued to the window opening.

It's so simple, in a minimum amount of time, to make a mosquito net on a wooden or plastic window. To do this procedure, you do not need a full repair.

The second option is more complicated, it provides for mounting the mosquito on the frame.

You can make a mosquito net from the following materials:

  • metal corners 4 pcs (width 1 cm);
  • plastic cable channel (box, size 15x10 mm);
  • construction glue, blind rivets (16 pcs);
  • thin nylon mesh of the required size.

We proceed to the construction of the structure:

  • We take measurements from the outside of the window opening, based on the available data, we make a frame. To do this, mark the length and width of the future structure on a plastic box. We cut off, using a knife, the required length of the vertical and horizontal frame parts, with a cut of 45 °. Grind the place of the cut with a sharpening bar;
  • We compare vertical and horizontal parts in the desired position. We fix the corners with a connecting metal corner using rivets (can be replaced with nuts and screws);
  • We put a mosquito net on the finished frame, with an allowance of 2-3 cm protruding beyond its perimeter;
  • From above we clamp the mesh with the cover of the plastic cable channel. In the course of snapping in, alternate the long and short sides. To prevent opening the lid, in some places apply glue under it. Trim off any excess fabric that is protruding.

The mosquito net is ready, it remains to install it in the window opening using the Z-shaped brackets.

Features of the construction of the structure of a mosquito door

A do-it-yourself mosquito net can also be made with magnets, on a balcony or front door.

Additional plastic structures with a thin mosquito net are more suitable for the balcony.

While the front door will require the use of a more durable material - a metal profile or wooden beams. Plastic options will not work here.

Step-by-step instructions for making a mosquito net on the door:

  • We take accurate measurements of the opening, we determine the size of the door leaf;
  • We prepare horizontal strips, make them smaller by 6 mm (this is necessary so that the door opens easily and does not rub against the opening);
  • We prepare vertical strips, remove 3 mm from each side. They must dock with horizontal strips;
  • Using self-tapping screws, we assemble a wooden frame. During the assembly process, we control the correctness of the angles with a square, they must correspond to 90 °;
  • To prevent the mosquito net from sagging, we measure out two transverse slats and mount them in the door in parallel in the same plane with the same pitch inside the structure;
  • We install the finished door frame in the doorway, provide its temporary fastening with chips, while maintaining the uniformity of the existing gaps. To exclude unscheduled repairs, the joints of the beams, for reliability, are fixed with corners;
  • After making sure that the mosquito door fits under the doorway, we outline the location of the hinges on it, after which you can remove the structure and install it along the marked hinge lines;
  • At the final stage, we pull the mosquito net onto the frame, with an outward allowance of 3 cm, fix it on the frame with a stapler. Cut off the excess nylon with scissors;
  • We mount the finished door in the opening.

In the same way, you can make a mosquito net with magnets for a balcony door.

Features of the restoration of mosquito nets

Repairing a mosquito structure for a window involves several steps:

  • Removing the structure from the brackets, cleaning from dust and dirt;
  • Removing the damaged nylon from the frame;
  • Installing a new mosquito net in the frame.

Before the repair is carried out and the damaged structural element is replaced with a new one, you should pay attention to how the material to be removed is fixed on the frame.

Along the profile perimeter, grooves are made into which the edges of the mosquito fabric are laid. There are handles parallel to each other on both sides of the structure.

All this is fixed along the perimeter with a sealing cord. Once the seal has been carefully removed, the holders and mesh can be easily removed.

Repairs should be carried out carefully and remember that you have to work with a fragile structure. Special attention should be paid to the handles so as not to damage them.

The replacement of the nylon is carried out by taking measurements from the old mesh, after which the necessary segment of the material is cut off.

The new mosquito net is gently pressed into the groove of the metal-plastic frame, fastened with a silicone or rubber cord. Excess nylon material is cut off.

The repair is completed, the structure can be installed in its original place.

The weak point of the mosquito net for the window is the handles (holders) of the structure, with the help of which the net is installed.

Replacing the handle involves purchasing fittings and removing the sealing cord from the frame.

Step-by-step instructions on how to repair or replace a handle:

  • Pry the elastic band from the corner of the frame, remove it from the groove and lead to the place where the handle is installed (including the installation area);
  • Remove the handle. In order for the holder to come out of the groove, it must be slightly pulled towards the corner;
  • In its place, we install new handles, slightly pressing down from above. The fact that the installation of the handle was successful will be evidenced by a characteristic click;
  • We place a sealing cord in the groove of the frame. In the area where the handle is replaced, the seal may be crushed. To reduce this, it must be soaped - then it can easily return to the groove.

As you can see, repairing the design of a mosquito for a window or on a balcony door is a simple process, it can be done in a matter of hours.

With the onset of warm spring days, our homes are receiving increased attention from the army of insects, who certainly want to explore new territories. And everything would be fine if these insects did not interfere with us annoyingly sleeping in the morning with open ones, like flies, and did not try to use our bodies as blood donors, which is typical of mosquitoes and midges. You can, of course, count on all kinds of fumigators and other chemical means to combat flying aggressors, but the most reliable means of protection will only be a mosquito net on the windows.

Purpose of a mosquito net

The mesh with small cells, covering the window openings or suspended above the bed, was used by the most ancient civilizations of our planet thousands of years ago - it is known that the last queen of Egypt, Cleopatra, slept under a canopy of fine mesh.

The mosquito net has become a part of our civilization and received its stable name not so long ago - in the 18th century. Using such a grid correctly, i.e. By completely cutting off the external atmosphere from the airspace inside the rooms, households are completely protected from the visit of mosquitoes, flies and other insects that act as carriers of various diseases.

Mosquito nets (mosquito nets) are made from polyethylene, cotton, nylon, fiberglass or polyester. To prevent mosquitoes and flies from entering living quarters, the size of the mesh in the mosquito net should be no more than 1.2 mm, its smaller size - 0.6 mm - will stop smaller insects, for example, midges. An absolute barrier for any insects will be a mosquito net impregnated with insecticides that are safe for humans and pets, which include drugs from the pyrethroid group - permethrin or deltamerin. Such insecticides not only prevent insects from entering the living space, they kill them - the effectiveness of a mosquito net treated with insecticides is twice as high as that of an untreated one, while the material of the mesh should be impregnated with these preparations only twice a year.

The mosquito net is an insurmountable barrier for insects, however, overlapping window and door openings with it reduces the amount of fresh air entering through them - sleeping in rooms where windows and doors are taken away with a mosquito net will be hot, because despite the presence of cells, the mesh still reduces air access and that is why you should not use gauze to protect against insects.

In addition to its main task of creating an obstacle for insects, a mosquito net is able to block or seriously reduce the penetration of dust, pollen and fluff into a room, which creates a more comfortable atmosphere for households prone to allergies.

Types of window mosquito nets

The mosquito nets offered by the manufacturers of window constructions are subdivided into those fixed with fastening (adhesive) tape, frame, sliding, roll and pleated nets. Consider the design and characteristics of each of them.

It is easiest for households to install a mosquito net on a tenacious Velcro tape - it is fixed inside the window opening, does not interfere with closing and opening the window sashes. The mesh, fixed on a tape with hooks, is easy to remove and install back, it is easy to clean, and the absence of a rigid frame allows you to install such mosquito protection inside a window opening of any shape and size. The service life of such an anti-mosquito barrier will be more than two years, subject to careful handling, in addition, there is no need to look for a place to store the mosquito net removed from the window during the cold season - it easily takes a compact form.

Mosquito nets on a removable frame made of aluminum or plastic profiles are quite common. It's all about the simplicity of their installation, allowing installation not only on plastic or aluminum frames, but also on wooden ones, and without any serious damage to the window structure. The most convenient frame for a mosquito net will be made of aluminum, since this metal is much stronger than plastic and is lightweight. Frame mosquito nets can be external (external) and installed inside the window opening. The frame of the outer mesh is usually attached to special corners, which make it easy to install and remove. The corners for attaching the mosquito net frame must be installed before the actual installation of the window frame, as it will not be easy to install them after this operation. When attaching the corners, it is important not to be mistaken with the place of their installation, otherwise they will fall under the window quarter - a part of the window frame inserted into the grooves in the window opening - and it will not work to expose the window frame. A mosquito net in a frame, placed inside the window opening, can be installed regardless of the time of installation of the window frame - it is wound inside the skylight and attached with short metal hooks to the window profile along its inner perimeter. Unlike external mosquito nets, especially if one of the window sashes is blind, the nets installed inside the window opening in the frames can be easily dismantled. The average cost of a frame mosquito net is 800 rubles. per m 2.

Sliding mosquito nets can only be installed on aluminum window frames with sliding sashes, they can repeat all the positions into which the window sashes are translated. The principle by which sliding mosquito nets work is completely similar to the doors of wardrobes - they can be freely moved in the left-right direction, along the perimeter of the frame of such nets are equipped with a sealing nap that tightly covers any cracks through which insects can penetrate into the room. For the free movement of sliding mosquito nets horizontally, an aluminum profile is used, rollers (skates) are attached to the frame of the mosquito nets to facilitate their displacement. The main convenience of sliding mosquito nets is associated with the ability to overlap those sections of the window frame that are used for ventilation at the moment. However, if the aluminum frame has more than two sliding doors, then it is possible to completely block the opening from insects only on the inner doors - when trying to close the opening of the outer sliding doors, even if they are of the same width, it will not be possible to avoid 200-300 mm slots on the sides. Sliding mosquito nets cost an average of 1,500 rubles. per m 2.

Rolled or roller-blind mosquito nets are installed on window openings either from the outside or from the inside (most often on skylights). When there is no need to set up a barrier against insects, the entire plane of the mesh is folded into a cassette installed in the upper part of the window frame, which allows maintaining the strength characteristics of the mosquito net and significantly reducing its wear. Installation of rolled nets is carried out before installing the window frame in the opening, while taking into account the introduction of a part of the frame into a quarter of the window opening. Important points during the operation of a rolled mosquito net: the possibility of solid debris penetrating inside the roll when it is rolled up, which will cause damage to the net; a sharp descent of the mesh when folding is not allowed - it is necessary to hold the canvas with your hand until it is completely folded; the mesh lifting and lowering mechanism must be cleaned at least once every 2 years; in winter, roll mesh cannot be used, because penetration of moisture into the mechanism will cause damage (however, it is not necessary in winter anyway). The main advantage of rolled mosquito nets is that they do not need to be removed from windows during the cold season. The average cost of roller mosquito nets is 4000 rubles. per m 2.

Pleated mosquito nets are similar to roll nets - the only difference is that they do not need a folding mechanism. The design of the pleated mesh is similar to an accordion - folds, as a rule, having a width of 10 mm, allow closing window openings of any height and shape. In order to fold or install the pleated mesh in the window opening, you just need to loosen or tighten the cord. Their average cost is 5,000 rubles. per m 2.

Important: keep in mind that an ordinary mosquito net is not able to support the weight of a small child who stands on the window sill and rests on its canvas - they will not stand the fastening. Do not allow the child to climb onto the windowsill on their own, firmly lock the windows during your absence, even a short one!

DIY mosquito net

The easiest way is to make a mesh insect protection from a fine mesh and a chain Velcro tape, thereby ensuring reliable protection of the premises during several warm seasons. You must visit a hardware store and purchase a mosquito net with a mesh of 1.2 mm, glue for gluing mosaic or cork, sticky tape, consisting of two parts, one of which contains many small hooks, the other is a thin fluffy pile. The cost of the Velcro fastening tape will be about 130 rubles. for 5.5 m, a special mosquito net will cost 120 rubles. for 1.5 m 2, the average cost of glue is 100 rubles.

We open the window sash and prepare a place for placing the fastening tape - we clean it from dirt and degrease the inner perimeter of the window opening using a soapy cloth, then clean water and a piece of clean gauze. To clean the aluminum frame, you can use any solvent, alcohol or gasoline, but plastic frames should only be washed with soapy water. Then, having separated half of the tape with small teeth-hooks from the fleecy part, we apply it to the installation site and check if it interferes with the closing of the sash - the main thing is that its edge does not fall between the end part of the sash (looped side) and the frame. Apply a thin layer of glue to the reverse side of the toothed half of the tape, apply it to the installation site. You can do the opposite and apply glue to the perimeter of the window opening in those areas where the fastening tape will be glued - in this case, you do not have to mark and cut it in advance, you can cut it as it is glued.

While the newly pasted tape with hooks is drying, we begin to mark and prepare the mosquito net. Having measured the dimensions obtained during gluing and transferring them to the mesh, we cut it off with a margin equal to the width of the fastening tape. We bend the overlap along the edges of the mesh and sew the second half of the tape to them with a fluffy pile outward - the seam goes along the edge of the tape and the mosquito net, if necessary, you can also sew it in the middle of the Velcro tape. After waiting 2-3 hours after gluing half of the tape with hooks on the window frame, we apply a mosquito net with a fleecy half of the tape sewn around the perimeter - reliable and inexpensive protection of the window opening from insects is ready.

Framed mosquito net is not cheap - we will make it with our own hands and with minimal costs. To do this, you will need: a plastic cable channel 15x10 mm; four metal corners 10 mm wide; 16 blind rivets 4x6 mm; a tube of glue; the mosquito net is of sufficient size.

We will install the finished frame mosquito net outside the window opening, i.e. in the same way as it is installed by window installers, therefore, when taking dimensions, we focus on the outer side of the window. Having received the required dimensions, we proceed to create a frame for the mosquito net - we measure them on the cable channel and cut it to size with a 45 ° saw cut with a saw blade for metal.

We sand the cut points with a large sandpaper or a coarse-grained sharpening bar, compose the cut frame blanks in the order of their collection, insert the metal corners and, holding them with one hand, drill holes in the cable channel, focusing on the holes in the corners. Rivets are placed in the finished holes and riveted with a riveter, while the riveter must be located outside the cable channel, and not inside it. In the absence of a riveter, you can use short screws with nuts and washers, after tightening them you need to cover them with any oil paint from the side of the nut so that it does not screw up due to vibrations.

When the frame is ready, we proceed to fixing the mosquito net in it. By the way, it is most convenient to use a thin mesh, otherwise it will be difficult to pinch it in the cable channel. We put the mesh on top of the frame with the condition that its edges protrude beyond the frame by 200-300 mm, align and snap it with the cable channel cover, alternately moving from the long side to the short side, then long and short again. Before clamping the mesh on the second long and short sides, you need to pull it slightly (you need an assistant), but you should not be too zealous - you just need to remove the slack. After completing the installation of the mosquito net on the frame, we cut off the mesh protruding at the edges, in several places between the cable channel and its cover we apply glue, which will completely exclude the self-opening of the cover.

Now you need to fix the finished frame mosquito net on the window. From a sheet of tin or metal we cut two strips 20x30 mm and two more 20x40 mm in size, bend them in the shape of the letter "Z" so that the bend covers the frame from the cable channel. On the shorter side of the fasteners, we drill a hole for a self-tapping screw. The ready-made fasteners are fixed on the frame outside the window opening, which will be covered by a mosquito net, with an 80-100 mm indent from the edges of the opening - long fasteners are installed on a self-tapping screw from above, short ones - from below. The distance between the slots of the upper and lower "Z" -shapes must be 10 mm longer than the length of the frame. For installation outside the window opening, a frame with a mosquito net is first inserted into the upper fasteners, then into the lower ones.

How to choose a mosquito net

The quality frame for bespoke mosquito nets by window manufacturers is made from extruded aluminum profiles. The aluminum profile is completely covered with powder paint, does not rust, is resistant to temperature extremes and chemicals. Profile walls can be from 0.7 to 1 mm thick - the thicker, the stronger they are.

At the corners, the aluminum profile of the frame is joined by connecting corners made of aluminum or plastic - their appearance and wall thickness may be different. From the point of view of ease of use, one-piece connecting corners are convenient, because their body does not have depressions and recesses, i.e. dirt and dead insects will not be deposited on them.

Ordinary mosquito netting is made of fiberglass - this material is strong enough, resistant to any atmospheric phenomena. The optimal mesh size in a mosquito net is from 1 to 1.2 mm - such a net will be a reliable barrier for mosquitoes, while allowing enough fresh air to pass through. The smaller mesh is useful for keeping out small insects such as midges, but the mesh will not allow air to pass through well. The standard color of the window mosquito net is gray. It is better not to use a white mesh, because its color will quickly change to gray and dirt will be clearly visible. Poor quality mosquito nets have a strong chemical odor and are easy to tear.

The handles installed on the frame of the mosquito net for ease of installation and dismantling are made of soft plastic and fastened with a rubber cord (service life no more than 2 years), hard plastic with rivets (service life more than 5 years), metal-plastic with rivets (service life over 10 years).

A fiberglass mosquito net will provide reliable protection against mosquitoes, but it will not be able to keep pets, such as dogs, cats, parrots, etc. To be completely sure that your pet will not fall out of the window, covered only with a mosquito net, you will need a special, albeit not quite mosquito net - "anticoshka" ("anticot").

The most successful material from which the mosquito netting of the "anticoshka" series is made is polyester. Such a mesh has only black color, the thickness of its constituent nylon threads in a plastic sheath is from 0.6 to 0.8 mm, the cell is slightly larger than that of a standard mosquito net - 1.1x1.5 mm. Each individual thread, which is part of the "anti-cat" mesh, is able to withstand a weight of 4 kg. Standard fastening of a framed mosquito net with an anti-cattle cloth to the corners at the top and bottom of the window opening is ineffective, because an animal in a jump can knock the frame with the net outward and fall out - the fastening is carried out on self-tapping screws along the perimeter of the net frame to the window frame. The inconveniences of using the mesh of the "anticoshka" series - it is difficult to periodically remove and wash the mesh due to the rigid attachment to self-tapping screws, after a few years from the moment of installation, the plastic braid will peel off from temperature changes, a rather high cost - about 4500 rubles. per m 2.

In addition to polyester "anti-cat" nets, there are steel and aluminum nets. The first of them have a cell size from 10 to 50 mm 2, i.e. they are able to keep the pet from falling, but they are not able to keep mosquitoes. Large mesh aluminum nets will not stop mosquitoes either, and they are much less durable than polyester nets. Metal nets are used not to block access to mosquitoes and other insects, but to protect pets - in addition to such a mesh, a second mesh is installed on the frame, already anti-mosquito, the distance between the two nets should be at least 20 mm so that the pet does not damage the mosquito net with claws ...

How to care for a mosquito net during use

As the fabric of the mosquito net becomes dirty, it is necessary to wash it, having previously removed the frame of the net from the window opening - grasp the handles on it with both hands, slightly lift the frame of the mosquito net up to the stop and remove it from the lower fasteners, put it on low tide, grasp the lower edge with your hand and bring the frame into the room. To wash the mesh, simple detergents are used, such as washing powder and laundry soap, cleaning is done with a foam rubber sponge or a soft brush - you should not press hard on the canvas, because it can come out of the fastening grooves.

Installation of the frame of the mosquito net after cleaning it is carried out in the following order: holding the frame by its lower part (not by the handles), pull it halfway out of the window opening, put it on the ebb and on the lower part of the window frame; grab the handles on it and bring it to an upright position; Slide the top of the frame into the top mounts, then lower it into the slots on the bottom mounts.

When reinstalling the frame with mesh, make sure that the underside of the frame fits into the grooves of the fasteners and not on the bottom of the window frame.

At the end of the warm season, the frame with the mosquito net must be removed from the windows, washed and stored in an upright position - low temperatures will damage the structure of the threads, weaken them.
