Doors for bathrooms and toilets. Types of designs and selection of quality products

The first thing a person sees when entering an apartment is the door. They lead from the hallway to the rooms, kitchen, bathroom and toilet. And not only the impression of the apartment, but also the opinion of the owners depends on the correctness of the choice and the overall harmony of the combination. Among these doors there are those that receive special attention - these are doors for the bathroom and toilet. They are special because, in addition to the usual style requirements for interior partitions, they must have a set of characteristics that determine the purpose of the rooms.

Doors to the bathroom and toilet: selection options

Renovating an apartment or house is a troublesome task and everyone determines for themselves when and how to carry out repairs. Some people prefer to wait for the plaster to fall on their heads, while for others the mere desire to change something is enough - that’s all they want! Restoring a bathroom is the main and often the most difficult stage. Rooms are visited without exception by all family members and therefore should be not only comfortable for use, but also pleasant.

Any renovation of an apartment has its own stages and features, but it’s worth talking separately about the final one, choosing the door to the bathroom and toilet. Without careful preparation of the choice, you may find that the door to the bathroom simply does not fit and you either need to redo the renovation or purchase a new room. It would seem: what’s so complicated - I came to the store, chose and installed it. But faced with a huge assortment offered by manufacturers, it is extremely difficult to navigate and buy exactly what is suitable. So, bathroom doors - how to choose them:

  1. a bathroom is a room where there is always humidity, therefore bathroom doors must be moisture resistant;
  2. Door size is the second main decision. Preliminary measurement of the doorway will help you choose the right door;
  3. appearance is also very important. The interior of the apartment must be harmonious, therefore the design of the door in the bathroom must coincide with the overall stylistic decision of the hallway.

Important! The moisture-resistant door can be made of solid wood. But in this case, a protective varnish coating is required: the stronger and smoother the layer (without pits, scratches and chips), the longer your door will last. The varnish can be either transparent, showing all the beauty of the cut, or colored. In extremely rare cases, you can see waxed bathroom doors. This is an extremely expensive, but very durable pleasure.

Choosing a door: types and types

The size of the doorway is of great importance. And primarily because not every apartment can boast of large dimensions. This means that when open, interior bathroom doors “take up” space. If the area is extremely small, you should pay attention not to a swing design, but to other options: sliding doors or an accordion.

Sliding structures have a number of advantages:

  • ease of installation;
  • large assortment of designs;
  • ease of use;
  • compactness.

But there is also some drawback: such doors cannot be installed without having enough space for “free movement”. In addition, the structure does not always have sufficient tightness, and if the bathroom is combined, then complete sealing becomes a necessary requirement.

Accordion doors are another opportunity to save space, especially when it comes to Khrushchev-era buildings, where it is incredibly difficult to accommodate even a standard-type sliding structure. Folding structures have huge advantages over any door:

  • strength – if installed correctly, such a door will last a very long time;
  • versatility– such structures can be opened either completely or partially;
  • tightness is a necessary quality so that steam, unnecessary “aromas”, etc. do not escape from the bathroom;
  • aesthetics - doors can be decorated with designer drawings, appliqués and patterns.

Despite all its advantages, this design has a high price, and it is better to order installation from a specialist.

Important! and it is better to order kitchens or “accordion” according to an individual project. Therefore, it is worthwhile to first include the cost of manufacturing and installation directly into the repair project. In this case, you need to choose not only the manufacturer, but also the material of manufacture, fittings, and design.

The design of a new door is a prerequisite for selection. There are so many people, so many opinions, and therefore it is worth familiarizing yourself with all the options that modern manufacturers offer.

Material for making doors

Doors to the bathroom and bathroom must meet all the requirements for conventional door structures, but it is also important to take into account the capabilities of the room itself. Often rooms do not have sufficient ventilation, and additional ventilation (especially in old houses) is not always possible. Therefore, think in advance what kind of designs you need: with ventilation, without it, material of manufacture and other nuances.

Bathroom doors are made from different materials: chipboard, polyvinyl chloride, solid wood, plastic. There are also laminated doors, the surface of which is covered with laminate. The convenience of the structures is that they tolerate mechanical stress, moisture and are not subject to deformation due to temperature changes.

Important! If the interior door to the bathroom is finished with natural veneer, it must be coated with a special varnish with hydrophobic properties. The stronger the layer holds, the longer the door will last. The surface of doors made of chipboard and polyvinyl chloride is also covered with a special protective film, the integrity of which is the key to long and flawless operation.

If you have not yet decided on the choice of material, it is worth looking at reviews from customers or professional installers. This is the only way to understand how this or that design will behave, determine the degree of quality of a product from a particular manufacturer and choose the right option.

Door types

  1. Bathroom door with ventilation grille. Will ensure normal air circulation in a room where there is no natural ventilation. The grille can be installed both in a door made of natural wood and in a plastic sliding one. The grille can be of any shape, and installation is carried out taking into account the lack of visibility into the bathroom.

The grille design has two parts: main and counter. The main one is a frame of a given shape, which has bases on which lattice or barrel elements are attached. The response part fits tightly to the frame, which does not have “curtains”.

This ventilation design is best suited for solid doors that tightly close the entrance to the room. The grille is made of wood, plastic and, less commonly, special metal. The installation does not spoil the aesthetics of the structure, and the design options allow you to choose a unique pattern. You can see photos of doors with ventilation in the photo gallery below.

  1. White standard doors. The popularity of structures made from pine wood can hardly be overestimated. For more than a decade and a half, interior bathroom doors have been a huge success. The main advantages include:
  • high quality fabric;
  • use only high-grade material;
  • affordable price;
  • ease of installation;
  • ease of care;
  • long service life.

It is also important that shield-type technology is used in manufacturing. This means that the MDF wood board is cold pressed, and only after that the final assembly is carried out, and the frame is made of pine slats. Sanding, priming and coating with white enamel, which contains polyurethane, only reinforces the uniquely high quality of the structure.

  1. Laminated doors. The appearance of the structure resembles veneered wood. The design can be either smooth or with a complete imitation of a cut of wood. Advantages of these designs:
  • laminate is a coating that is not inferior in its technical and quality characteristics to natural material;
  • resistance to steam, hot air and moisture;
  • affordable price level: such doors are much cheaper than those made of veneer.
  1. Doors made of plastic. Polyvinyl chloride has a number of excellent qualities:
  • almost does not absorb moisture, having excellent hydrophobic properties;
  • vapor permeability is at the lowest level;
  • fire safety;
  • affordability.

It is important that the perimeter of the canvas must be filled with a sealant made of polystyrene foam or rubber.

  1. "Harmonic". This door saves usable space. It can be made of plastic, decorated with a pattern or stained glass. A huge range of color solutions, good waterproof qualities and durability have already proven the designs only from the most positive side.

Choosing a bathroom door is not an easy task. In addition to the listed options, there are glass doors, prefabricated ones, and those made according to designer drawings. But when choosing a design, you should not give preference to “fashionable” doors. The simplest options are usually the best. And in a small room, solid doors can have an additional function. The canvas will accommodate hooks, shelves, small cabinets, and a bathroom door with a mirror will solve the problem of a wall mirror if there is nowhere else to hang it.
