How to bend a canopy profile: square or rectangular. How to bend a profile pipe for a greenhouse: the simplest methods and rules for making blanks Where to bend a profile pipe

Making metal structures with your own hands at home or in production is often not complete without the use of curved elements. The rounded shape of pipe frames in private construction is found everywhere: sheds, hangars, greenhouses, garden arches, benches, swings and much more. All this looks aesthetically pleasing, lightweight. The most popular material for such structures is a profile pipe, it is strong, lightweight, easy to install, and is resistant to fracture and bending. Then the question arises: how to bend a profile pipe?

Profile pipe bending: how to do it correctly?

The process of bending a shaped pipe and a round one is not always carried out in the same ways, as a result, you can get a result different from the expected one. A square (rectangular) section is difficult to bend, folds, cracks, breaks, flattening, twisting along the axis and other defects occur. To avoid this, consider all the subtleties of the question: how to bend a profile pipe at home?

Before proceeding with bending, the internal height and wall thickness of the profile pipe should be measured. Due to the fact that the permissible bending radius of this product range is not regulated, the value is generally taken equal to the height of the inner wall of the profile minus twice the wall thickness. These measurements are also necessary to determine the smallest permissible length of the bending pipe section:

  • If the profile height (A) is up to 20 mm, the minimum bending area should be 2.5 * A mm;
  • If the profile height (A) is more than 20 mm, the minimum bending area should be 3.5 * A mm.

Bending of a profile pipe along the radius is carried out taking into account the characteristics of the material and wall thickness. It is not recommended to bend tubular products with a large clearance with a wall thickness of up to 2 mm; flattening, creases, seam rupture and other deformations cannot be avoided. At home, it is better to use welding to form a bend.

In the process of bending a square (rectangular) pipe with your own hands, the seam of the product must be placed on the side or on the convex side (only not the concave side), so that the compressive force does not act directly on the seam.

Ways to bend a profile pipe with your own hands

With the arrangement of the territory around a private house, the owners most often cope on their own, build greenhouses, fences, gazebos, sheds, assembling frames and structures from profile pipe rolling. Such structures can consist of a large number of curved parts. The service for the formation of the necessary bending of parts can be ordered at the enterprise, where with the help of a special pipe bender (profile bender) everything will be done quickly and efficiently. However, for many, bending a profile pipe with their own hands turns out to be of no less quality and even without a pipe bender, which is expensive and will not be needed in the future. There are several ways to do this at home.

How to bend a profile pipe by welding

Tubular products of square or rectangular cross-section, the wall height of which is 30 - 40 mm or more, are difficult to bend, especially at small radii. To form a beautiful 90-degree bend from such a material with your own hands, you cannot do without a grinder and a welding machine.

Procedure:

  • Make a bend pattern, which makes it easier to make several identical parts;
  • Along the pipe with a grinder, make notches of three walls, leaving one solid. The more notches, the rounder the bend will be;
  • Fix one end of the profile securely;
  • Applying force, grasping the second end, gradually bend the pipe along the template so that the cuts form a concave part of the bend. The plane of bending should not be disturbed, you can use a mallet;
  • Weld the cuts, grind the welded joints.

How to bend a profile pipe using fillers

The filler is used to obtain uniform bends without flattening and folds (corrugations on the concave part), filling the internal space, it distributes the force of compression and tension over the entire surface of the bent section of the profile. The most tested filler is considered to be fine, dry, well-sieved sand.

This method can be accompanied by heating the pipe with a blowtorch or incandescent on charcoal; when heated, the metal acquires plasticity, which facilitates bending. Hot bent pipe products with a wall height of 30 mm and more.

Rolled pipes with a wall height of up to 20 mm bend without heating, and with a bending radius of less than 50 mm, filler may not be used.

Hot Procedure:

  • Anneal the bend section of the prepared pipe;
  • Make wooden plugs in the form of pyramids with a length of 10 bases, which are 2 times larger than the lumen; on one, make 4 longitudinal grooves to drain gas during heating;
  • Plug one end of the pipe, gradually fill up the sifted and calcined sand to the brim, compacting it by tapping. Plug the second end with a grooved chop;
  • Mark the heating area with chalk, clamp the profile, placing the seam not on the concave side of the template;
  • Warm up the pipe red-hot, bend it with translational movements in one approach (reheating is not desirable) observing the bend plane according to the template. Observe safety measures;
  • After cooling, knock out or burn out the plugs.

With a wall height of up to 10 mm, we boldly bend a profile pipe with our own hands without heating and filler. In other cases, instead of sand, you can use a steel spring with dense square or rectangular coils. In size, it should be slightly less than the internal dimensions of the pipe, so that it fits tightly to the bend. The spring will also prevent unwanted deformations from forming during cold bending. Pull it out by the wire attached to the end turns and extending outward.

How to bend a profile pipe at home on a bending plate

This is another option for how to bend a profile pipe without a pipe bender, using devices made by yourself. These include a horizontal metal or concrete slab with holes, a stationary flat template with a fixing element, a workbench with a mandrel. These designs are good for cold bending thin tube products. The principle of operation is simple: one end of the profile is clamped, and the other is pressed under the action of force, bending around the prepared form. Manual bending requires significant effort and does not guarantee accuracy.

It should be remembered that steel pipe has a plastic moment of resistance (spring effect), so the bend has to be adjusted several times to match the template.

How to bend a profile pipe with your own hands and bring it to its original shape is difficult. In order for everything to work out as planned on the first try, you cannot do without a special machine.

Tube bender for products with square and rectangular sections

A profile bending machine is a device with shafts, one of which, with free running under pressure, evenly bends a pipe of the desired shape along its entire length. The shafts are machined to a certain section. The pressure is applied gradually until the desired bend is reached. The force is applied manually or by means of an electric drive, hydraulics. A domestic pipe bender is designed for a small number of bending products, a professional one can be used for serial bending of guaranteed accuracy.

Due to the design features, the profile bending machine bends the steel pipe without heating both in a separate section and along the entire length at different angles and in different planes.

It is also possible to make a bending device with your own hands, it will take a lot of effort, time and money, but the process of bending pipes will become easier. The manual profile bending machine is easy to operate, small in size, and can be installed in a garage or small workshop. The pipe bender should be secured in a stable position, work should be done slowly, constantly checking that it matches the template. The simplest option, suitable for thin pipes, is the Volnov roller machine. A bend is formed at a certain point of the workpiece clamped in a vice by means of a roller, but good physical strength is required.

How to bend a profile pipe at home is not an easy question. You should take into account a lot of nuances and do everything right so as not to spoil the material. Much attention is paid to the dimensions of the section, wall thickness, calculation of the bending radius, it is also worth deciding whether to use heating, filler or not.

How to bend a pipe: more than 10 ways to do it yourself

Hello dear readers. Today I will tell you about how to bend a pipe without a pipe bender and with a pipe bender, and how to bend a polypropylene pipe. The topic is of considerable interest, since it is difficult to build a greenhouse, a gazebo or a canopy over the porch without bent pipes.

Why choosing the right flexion method is important

Incorrect cold deformation of the pipe, no matter what material it is made of, negatively affects the strength of the walls.

In the process of bending the pipe, the wall along the outer edge is strongly stretched and the material from which it is made becomes thinner. On the inside of the pipe, in case of improper bending, the walls are crushed and folds are formed, which negatively affect both the appearance and the strength of the product.

In order for the pipe to be bent correctly, the walls must not wrinkle, while the stretching of the material on the outside must occur evenly.

How to achieve this result?

Methods for deforming pipes without compromising their strength

The choice of pipe bending method depends on the type of production materials. Three types of pipes are commonly used: metal, metal-plastic and completely plastic.

The first two categories can be bent to the required configuration. If the question is how to bend a polypropylene pipe, we use an industrial hair dryer with a special nozzle.

By installing the part on the nozzle, you can heat the plastic to a temperature close to the melting point, after which you can gently bend it. However, for working with plastic, I recommend using corner fittings with brazed or glue.

How to bend a metal pipe

Let's take a closer look at each of the methods listed in the diagram.

The hydraulic pipe bender is used to work with thick-walled steel pipes, which require a lot of force to deform.

Instructions for using the tool are as follows:

  • The part to be deformed is located between the metal guides and the pressure rollers;
  • Due to the hydraulic shift of the pressure rollers, the radius and the bend angle are set;
  • the workpiece is rolled through guides and pressure rollers, due to which the required shape is obtained.

The use of a hydraulic pipe bender, due to the selection of rollers of the required configuration, allows you to work with workpieces with a traditional circular cross-section and with modifications.

To increase productivity, the hydraulic tool can be supplemented with an electric roller drive. As a result, you will have to set the necessary fold parameters and monitor the work process without exerting physical effort.

The manual pipe bender is similar in design to the hydraulic version. The main difference is that the position of the pressure rollers is not set hydraulically, but by muscular force.

Due to structural differences, the manual pipe bender is used to work with pipes with a small wall thickness and a small cross-sectional diameter. The main advantage of a hand tool is its affordable price and the ability to do it yourself.

The use of external springs is important when working with thin-walled pipes with a round section of small diameter. To increase the efficiency of deformation, the metal walls in the stretch section can be additionally heated with a blowtorch.

  • A special spring, selected according to the diameter of the section, is put on the surface of the pipe and pushed to the bend point, so that the deformation section is located approximately in the middle of the pipe;
  • The area where the deformation is performed on the outside is heated by a blowtorch;
  • The pipe is taken by hand from both ends and gently bent with effort to obtain the required angle and radius;
  • After the metal has cooled down, the spring is removed.

Why do you need a spring?

Regardless of which spring you use, external or internal, it does not allow the pipe walls to deform unevenly. That is, the walls of the pipe at the bend section will follow the shape of the spring.

For this, special springs are made from solid stainless steel grades. In order for the spring to be easily removed after use, its surface is made smooth.

The use of sand backfill is an opportunity to give the pipe a more or less uniform radius and bend angle without strong crushing of the walls.

Using sand backfill, it is possible to bend only individual pipe sections, at the same time, it will not be possible to deform the already welded structural elements of the pipeline.

The deformation instruction is as follows:

  • A plug is installed at one of the ends of the pipe;
  • Sand is poured from the other end without heterogeneous inclusions;
  • The open end is also sealed with a cork;
  • At the intended place of bending, the metal is heated with a blowtorch until it is slightly reddened;
  • Grasping both ends, bend the metal pipe against the round pillar until the desired angle and radius are obtained.

Methods suitable for working with metal-plastic

Metal-plastic pipes differ from their metal counterparts in the lesser strength of the walls due to the smaller metal thickness. Therefore, to work with metal-plastic, you can apply the methods listed in the following diagram.

Let's consider the listed methods in more detail.

The use of a manual crossbow-type pipe bender allows you to set the required angle and radius of the metal-plastic pipe.

Due to the lower degree of pressure, in comparison with the hydraulic analogue, it is possible to deform the metal-plastic product without the risk of damage to the thin walls.

If you need to set a small bend radius, you need to deform the metal-plastic gradually, moving from a large radius to a small one. Despite the fact that the workpiece will have to be rolled several times, its walls will remain intact.

Applying a steel spring is similar to using a metal pipe. But if on metal it was possible to use a spring of a larger size than the diameter of the pipe section, then when working with metal-plastic, the size should be the same.

We bend the workpiece gradually. In order to make it easier to remove the spring at the end of the bend, it is advisable to lubricate the adjacent pipe surface with machine oil.

The use of sand backfill is practically no different from the use of backfill when working with metal. Basically, the sand backfill acts as an internal spring that prevents the walls from crumpling.

Since the metal-plastic is more plastic than a thick-walled metal product, we take the metal-plastic pipe for bending not by the ends, but closer to the deformation area.

Wire use is a form of pipe deformation using filler. That is, if the cross-sectional diameter is small, the pipe can be filled with wire cuttings at least 80% of the cross-sectional area. Then, holding the workpiece by the ends, gently bend it, having previously thrown it over a round post.

The only drawback of this method is the impossibility of making a bend with a small radius, since then it will be difficult to pull out the wire.

Working with shaped metal pipes

Finally, I'll tell you how to bend a square steel pipe with a grinder and a metal cutting disc available.

The instruction is as follows:

  • At the place of the proposed fold on the inside, we mark the slots;
  • We cut the pipe with a grinder so that the disc passes through the inner and two lateral sides and from the side the cuts look like small hollow triangles;
  • We bend the workpiece along the cuts.

The smaller the bend radius, the larger you need to make the angle of each cut.

Now you know how to bend a HDPE pipe and how to do a similar operation with metal and metal-plastic parts. For more details, watch the video in this article.

Bending a profile pipe is just the case when you simply cannot cope with the task without a special tool. Despite the seemingly not too strong structure, a profile pipe (rectangular or square), even with a small wall thickness, is capable of withstanding significant loads without deformation.

That is why it is often used as a frame for various lightweight structures. But if, out of necessity, you have a need to give a shaped pipe a curved shape, you should know how to bend it correctly without damage.

Profile pipe-rolling, in contrast to the round one, differs in the shape of the section, which can be of several types:

  • square;
  • flat oval;
  • rectangular;
  • oval.

According to the regulations of GOST R 54157-2010, the list of profile products must also include a round pipe. However, for the construction of greenhouses, it is the square shape that is more often used, since it is easier to attach a covering to it.

Today tube-rolling products are produced in a wide range. It differs in cross-sectional area, configuration and wall thickness. That is, with respect to the bending of pipes, the minimum radius of curvature is called. First, you need to determine the minimum radius of a flat round deformation. Otherwise, the workpiece will not survive the bending and will be damaged.

So, to determine the smallest permissible bending radius of a rectangular or square pipe, you should know the height (h) of the profile, since:

  • rolled pipes with a height of more than 2 cm are able to withstand without loss of deformation in a section with a length of 3.5 × h and more;
  • pipe-rolling up to 2 cm in height is able to withstand without loss of deformation in a section with a length of 2.5 × h and more.

Based on these limits, you can begin to design the process of manufacturing shelves, racks, frames for vents, windows and doors, as well as other products from a profile pipe. The wall thickness also makes some adjustments.

If the wall thickness of a wide pipe is less than 2 mm, then it is generally not recommended to bend it. In this case, welding is preferable.

If you decide to make a greenhouse from conventional low-carbon and carbon steel alloys, then they tend to "spring" slightly, that is, return to their original position. Therefore, before installation work, each arched arc will need to be double-checked and, if necessary, bend over a template.

Bending methods

The profile pipe can be bent either manually (using a manual pipe bender) or using a special machine. You can choose a method based on the following main points:

  • if you need to bend a small number of profile pipes (from 1 to 5), then it is easier to do it manually;
  • with large pipe cross-sections and significant wall thicknesses, you will have to use a profile bending machine;
  • a small radius of curvature can be performed both manually and using a machine.

If you do not consider yourself a person with significant physical strength, even when using a long lever to strengthen it, then you better not consider the option with a manual pipe bender.

In addition, if you are not going to bend pipes all the time, then buying any special tool for these purposes will be financially unprofitable for you. As a way out of this situation, you can:

  • seek help from the nearest workshop dealing with similar work;
  • make a machine for bending shaped pipes on your own from scrap materials;
  • use the method of bending pipes using a "grinder" and welding.

Here we describe 2 methods of bending: heat and cold.

Before you begin to deform the material by heating, fill its cavity with sand. This will significantly increase the quality of processing, for example, the fold will be uniform.

For work, be sure to use tarpaulin gloves.

So, the work process is as follows:

  1. Make 2 pyramidal plugs from a piece of wood. Their length should be 10 times the base of the width. As for the base area of \u200b\u200bthe plug, it should be 2 times the opening of the square or rectangular pipe.
  2. Next, try on the caps on the pipe. On one of them, it is necessary to make grooves so that gases can escape from the pipe during heating.
  3. Immediately before the folding process, the workpiece must be fired.
  4. Now you need to fill the inside of the pipe with medium grain sand. In its composition, pebbles and gravel should be completely excluded. To do this, sift all the sand. If there are large fractions in the sand, they can contribute to the formation of an irregular bend relief. For this reason, the sand should be sieved through a sieve with a mesh of 0.7 mm. If dusty particles remain, then when the pipe is heated, they will sinter inside.
  5. After cleaning the sand, calcine the whole mass at a temperature of 150 ° C.
  6. After that, plug one end of the pipe with a plug, on which there are no channels for removing gases. Install a funnel on the other side of the pipe and pour sand through it in portions. Tap the pipe walls periodically so that the filler can seal well. If the sound when hitting a wooden mallet is empty, then this means that the pipe is well filled.

  1. Close the pipe with a stopper.
  2. The place to be bent should be marked with chalk.
  3. Now clamp the pipe with a template in a vice. If the pipe has a weld, then place it on the side. Stretching along the seam is not recommended.
  4. Heat the marked area red-hot, and then gently give the pipe the required shape. Bend should be in one step with translational movements.
  5. When the workpiece has cooled down, compare it to the template. If everything matches and you don't need to repeat the procedure, then you can burn out the corks and pour out the sand.

In this work, one must not fuss and rush. Excessive movement can bend the workpiece. Moreover, it is important to observe safety precautions, because you will have to work at high temperatures.

It is not worth heating the pipes several times. Under the influence of a temperature shock, the material simply loses its strength, worst of all, it can burst when it is heated again to 800 ° C. Therefore, everything should be done the first time. In this case, you will be able to make the necessary blanks for the construction of a greenhouse.

It is possible to deform the pipe without resorting to heating. The cold folding process can be carried out with or without filler. For example, if the material has a profile height of up to 1 cm, then the filler is not needed. If the pipe is thick, then it is necessary to fill it with sand. Can also be filled with rosin.

A good alternative is a spring that fits directly into the bend area. Due to the spring, the material at the bending points will be protected from a sharp change in the profile section. This article discusses several techniques on how to cold bend a profile pipe.

Without pipe bender

As already mentioned, you can use a spring, as well as a blowtorch complete with it. To do this, prepare a steel wire Ø2 mm. You make a spring from it so that it can fit tightly inside the pipe. Alternatively, you can buy a ready-made spring designed for bending pipes.

So, the spring is inserted into the marked place and heated with a blowtorch.

By such a device, we mean several types of devices that allow you to bend a pipe with a different cross section for greenhouses, sheds, home greenhouses and other structures where metal frame elements are used. Tube benders are classified into two types:

  • Roller. Very often it is called - profile bender. It is used to bend the pipe along smooth radii. Bending takes place on the principle of pipe rolling.
  • Hydraulic lever. This technique will also allow the pipe to bend to the desired angle. Bending of pipes is easy due to the special lever.

In general, using a pipe bender has a number of advantages, here are some of them:

  • Less labor is involved. When using a device with an electric drive, forces are generally reduced to zero.
  • There is no need to weld or use additional fittings.
  • Due to the observance of the bending technology, the pipe retains its technical characteristics and kinks and flattening are prevented.
  • The finished products are perfectly shaped.

The most difficult thing is to choose the right machine. The choice may depend on the pipes used, namely the material from which they are made. For example, if it is necessary to bend a copper pipe, then it is sufficient to use a manual pipe bender. But if we speak for a profile pipe, then it is best to use a roller pipe bender to bend it.

A manual pipe bender is a device that allows you to bend a pipe of a certain section with physical effort. The pipe bender allows you to fix the bendable pipe to facilitate all the work, as well as select the required bend radius, focusing on the templates included in its kit.

Due to the rather high physical complexity of working on a manual pipe bender, it is usually used only to create single bent shaped pipes.

One of the demanded profile bending machines is the manual machine "PG-1" and "PG-2". The first option is a fairly mobile device. This allows the folding process to be carried out directly on site. It can bend pipes measuring 40 × 40 mm. By its design, the equipment has a frame and 3 rollers, which are fixed on it. The central one, and it is the pressure roller, pulls the pipe. The comfortable handle makes the process of work easy enough.

As for the other model "PG-2", its design is more powerful. This machine can bend pipes 30 × 60 mm. If necessary, this machine can bend the pipe into a ring.

Bending machine

A special machine that allows bending pipes without applying significant forces is called a profile bending machine. Its only drawback is its high cost, so it is usually used in work by those who have to bend pipes quite often.

Using the machine, you can get any bending radius of a profile pipe without its destruction and deformation.

Bending occurs gradually and in stages, each time at a small bending angle, which prevents the appearance of corrugated areas, which are almost impossible to eliminate. The absence of jerks in operation when using this type of equipment allows the surface of the pipe to remain smooth, since the compression of one side and the stretching of the other occur simultaneously and very slowly.

To improve the quality of the work performed, it is recommended to additionally use the method of bending a profile pipe completely filled with liquid. The hydrostatic pressure appearing in this case prevents the pipe walls from deforming during bending. To prevent liquid from spilling out of the pipe, special plugs are put on its ends. In this case, you should be very careful to ensure that the pipe is completely filled with liquid, without air bubbles. In addition, bending of such a pipe should be started strictly in the center, and not at the edges.

"Bulgarian" and welding

If you need to bend one profile pipe with thick walls and a large cross-sectional size, then you can use a "grinder" and a welding machine for these purposes:

  1. First of all, you need to accurately determine the required bend radius by making a template from wood.
  2. Then, every 5-10 centimeters along the length of the pipe, make cuts on three of its sides with a "grinder", leaving the same side of the pipe intact.
  3. After that, the pipe must be attached to the template and gently and evenly bent to the required shape.
  4. Then you just have to use the welding machine and weld all the cuts made, again giving the pipe integrity.
  5. When you finish welding, you will need to sand the seams and coat the pipe with a protective coat of paint to prevent rust damage.

Since it will not be possible to quickly bend a profile pipe using this technology, besides, skills in working with a grinder and a welding machine are required, this method is rarely used and only for single structures.

It is quite possible to bend a pipe from a profile on our own and without the help of rather expensive machines. Therefore, if you have a need to bend a pipe, then a special article on the site will allow you to find out how to bend a profile pipe at home without a pipe bender.

Bending the pipe with a grinder

In order to bend a profile pipe, you will need to use a grinder and a welding machine. Below we describe the details of such a process.

  • Before starting this work, you should fix the pipe (using a vise). This procedure is needed to find the product in one plane. If there is a weld seam on the pipe, then place it on the outside of the bend. This must be done without fail otherwise the metal will disperse.
  • It is necessary to determine the calculation of the radius of the future bend and clear the place of this bend. To do this, you need to use a grinder and make several cuts along the length of the marks. After carrying out this work, you can easily bend the pipe.
  • The resulting cracks should be welded, then cleaned. This work must be done slowly and with great care. Thanks to this, you will not spoil the product, and the result will please you.

Bending the pipe with a spring and blowtorch

In this article, we are talking about how to bend a profile pipe. Here we give the methods that can be used if there is no special device designed for this purpose. So, in order to bend the profile pipe in the following way, you need a steel wire, 2 mm thick. It needs to be shaped like a spring in order to go deep into the pipe. It should be said that such a spring should not dangle inside the profile pipe.

In order to bend the pipe, you can buy a ready-made spring, which will be designed to bend the pipes. Then you will need to place it in the pipe, and mark the bend. Next, we heat the product with a blowtorch. After the performed procedure, you will be able to bend the pipe with the help of a grinder without much difficulty. If the result does not please you, then you can correct it by redoing your work again, but with greater accuracy.

Pipe bending with sand and gas torch

If there is no pipe bender at home, and the profile pipe needs to be bent urgently, then use the means at hand. In this part of the article, it is worth talking about how to bend a profile pipe without a pipe bender using a gas burner and sand. It must be said that this method will give the pipe the required bend without cracks and deformations on it.

  1. To carry out this work, you will need sand (preferably quartz), and a gas burner, drill and wooden plugs in the amount of 2 pieces. Further, we perform the following actions in the prescribed order:
  2. If you did not have quartz sand, it is quite possible to use the usual one, having previously carried out the procedure for cleaning it. The sand should be sieved and dried by heating it with a burner or fire. Heating must be done after it has completely stopped smoking. The finished sand must be cooled and poured into a clean dish.
  3. One end of the pipe must be closed with a wooden plug. Next, we pour sand into the pipe, and also plug its second edge with a second plug. Remember that such a filler will help avoid various deformations and cracks. If the pipe is empty, it will deteriorate.
  4. It is necessary to make a small hole in one of the plugs in order for air to escape from it during heating.
  5. Now you should mark the place where the pipe will bend and heat it up with a burner.
  6. Next, we give the product the shape we need.

When carrying out this work, it is necessary to ensure that the metal does not overheat. This can lead to the appearance of scales, and this material will lose its original quality. When the pipe has reached its desired shape, the wooden plugs should be removed from the holes and the sand should be poured out. For easier removal of plugs, heat the pipe ends slightly.

Additional pipe bending methods

There are many methods for bending shaped pipes without a pipe bender. made of special materials that you can apply. Let's list them below for our readers.

So, in order to bend a copper (or brass) pipe, you need to use water and exposure to low temperatures.

  • Close one end of the pipe with a plug.
  • Then fill the product with water and close the other end of the pipe.
  • You can fill it with either rosin or lead.
  • Now it is worth placing the pipe in a cold place or in frost in order for ice to form.
  • After that, the pipe will take on the required shape.

In order to perform a bend on a pipe consisting of metal-plastic, you need to take ordinary table salt.

  • Before starting work, the salt should be heated in a pan. This procedure must be carried out until the salt crystals begin to explode.
  • Then we pour salt into the pipe. As soon as it gets inside, our product will take the desired shape and bend with ease.

Finally

Now you have learned how to bend a profile pipe with your own hands. In general, remember that different methods of bending pipes can allow this work to be done at home, without the use of expensive equipment and without the services of those who do it professionally. We hope that our tips will help you to bend the profile pipe using handy tools. So follow the process of your work and try to do it carefully and without haste. And the result will surely please you.

Photo - bending pipes without a pipe bender

It is very convenient to carry out this work using a welding inverter and a household grinder. To begin with, a drawing is being developed, according to which the required angle will be drawn and calculated in the future. In the scheme, the rounding is necessarily accurately measured.

Step-by-step instructions from an expert on how to bend pipes using a vice, a grinder and a welding machine:

  1. If you plan to bend the professional pipe in a semicircle, then at the place of the proposed bend, several thin cuts are made with the help of a grinder;
  2. You can do the work yourself only if you first fix the reinforcement in a clamping vice. When the cuts are made and free of chips, you need to carefully start bending the pipe;
  3. After the ring has closed, you need to weld the holes that were formed as a result of bending with a welding machine. Some craftsmen use simple soldering irons if the communication has a small diameter;
  4. In order for the fold to be neat, it will need to be additionally sanded and coated with a protective agent - this will help prevent corrosion or premature destruction of the connection.

You can bend the pipe exactly by spring, which is suitable for the size of the profile section:

  1. Communication is fixed in a vice;
  2. A spring of the appropriate diameter is inserted into the hole. This will prevent the profile pipe from breaking or taking an irregular shape when bending;
  3. To facilitate the work, you need to warm up the joint and carefully manually bend the communication to the desired diameter;
  4. Various metal products suitable for inclination, for example, grinders, arches, etc., are very helpful here.

Similarly, you can try to deform communication. with sand... How to properly bend a canopy pipe without the use of a vice and springs:

  1. It is necessary to stop one end of the tube by closing it with a wooden wedge or any other plug;
  2. With the closed end, the pipe is fixed in the ground or in a vice (if possible). You can also use any other device that allows you to establish communication;
  3. After that, you need to pour sand into the open end and warm up the blowtorch;
  4. The heated lamp must be held at the place of the future bend, and then carefully bend the pipe into the desired shape. It is necessary to work rather quickly, since the metal, after it cools down, will be unsuitable for processing.

After making the bend, it is required to leave the pipe in a fixed position for a while - this will help the material to fix its new shape. If the work is carried out in the winter, then the craftsmen put them out even in the cold.

Arch (canopy) without pipe bender

As you know, for a canopy, for example, in the form of an arch, a curved profile pipe is needed. It is important to make sure that the arcs are equally curved, otherwise the canopy will not work. Now we will consider how to do this without using a machine, a pipe bender and other aids of this kind.

We need:

  • A support on which we will work, for example, a metal table;
  • As a beam, you can take a pipe 80 by 60 or 50 by 50 mm, 3 meters long. But this method is universal - therefore, what kind of support beam you will end up with is not important;
  • Profile pipe 20 by 20 or 20 by 40 mm, which we will bend.

Procedure (step by step instructions):

Important note from an expert:
In the length of the racks, the whole secret of bending the professional pipe with an arch for your canopy lies. The lengths of the two posts are formed from the length of the middle post (we have 250 mm - you can take a different length, but not more than 250 mm - otherwise the pipe may break when bent). The coefficients 0.8888 and 0.5556 are valid for any length of the support and B-pillar.

Now let's look at how to bend a pipe using a pipe bender

There are two types of pipes:

  1. Profile;
  2. Round section.

Depending on your needs, you need to choose a certain option, but it should be remembered that working with round reinforcement is much easier than with square one. The fact is that when bent, the corners can bend or flatten, moreover, there is a high probability of cracking.

To bend a profile pipe at home, you need to work with a special device - or a profile bending machine. Their feature is the ability to establish communication in the device and fix it in a certain position. Due to the pressure, which is exerted equally on both the outer corners and the inner ones, an even bend is formed without sharp drops and cracks.

Exists two kinds of roll forming equipment:

  1. Manual;
  2. Professional automatic.

The first is a fairly simple device that consists of a work surface (table) and a number of rollers. Due to the movement of the rollers, the pipe moves along the work table and changes its angle, while not distorting the desired semicircle.

Professional devices are more convenient to use, but their cost often exceeds 20,000 rubles. They are used for complex work, most often required for the production of complex decorative metal elements. The advantages of the model include the ideal radius, which will be accurate literally to a tenth. Of course, when using the machine it is more convenient to work, but at home it is practically not needed, since it is designed to process a large number of pipes per shift.
