The heroes of Azeroth will face many challenges, including the dungeons scattered across the Broken Isles. In this review, we'll talk about two of them: the Catacombs of Suramar and the Quarter of Stars.

These dungeons are somewhat different from the rest (like Maw of Souls) in that they require more solid preparation from the players. To get there, level 110 players will need to increase their reputation in Suramar, which can be done during the quest chain in this zone. In addition, you must be part of a pre-assembled group. The Catacombs of Suramar and the Quarter of Stars can only be completed on Mythic difficulty, which, of course, makes them even more interesting. Suramar catacombs

Suramar itself is huge, but the network of tunnels below it extends far beyond the city limits. The Nightborne are dependent on the Nightwell's power, and the Catacombs of Suramar are spreading its power throughout the city. These intricate mazes were built under the foundations of the largest buildings thousands of years ago, and most of the townspeople have no idea what is hidden in the darkness under their feet ...

Developer comment: when we needed to start working on the dungeon of Suramar, we thought of old dungeons like Blackrock Depths, which covered a huge area and had many passages and nooks. We came to the conclusion that the catacombs under the huge Suramar will serve as an excellent platform in order to recreate something similar. In the Catacombs of Suramar, there will be no random bosses, as in the Assault on the Violet Hold, but each time you enter the dungeon, different doors will open, which will diversify the gameplay and the order of passing the maze of corridors.

Ivanir: Cut off from the power of the Nightwell and thrown into the Catacombs, Ivanir wandered aimlessly through their labyrinths and gradually faded away until he came across a treasure hidden at the base of the great library of Suramar. He studied the tomes for days in an effort to decipher them and absorbed the energy of the relics of the archive in order to somehow prolong his life. But the magic that sustains his body is unable to keep his mind.

Korstilax: this huge golem patrols the tunnels under Suramar in search of anomalies, which he immediately corrects. Underground trek Is a new solo game mode introduced in the Kobolds and Catacombs expansion. Due to its increasing complexity and permanent death, this PvE mode will become a difficult (but free) task for players.

The dungeon hike is completely free and offers players many tools and maps to fully enjoy.

What is "Rogue-like"?

For those not in the know, "Rogue-like" (or "roguelike") is a type of RPG game that can be described as the passage of a dungeon with changing levels, each time different for all players. Typically this type of game contains a fantastic storyline that has been heavily influenced by its predecessor board games such as Dungeons and Dragons. In roguelikes, the player controls the character, collects loot, and also risks dying irrevocably during his adventure.

By sending players on a Dungeon Crawl, Hearthstone hopes to replicate some of the common features of popular roguelike games while retaining many of the mechanics players expect to see.

Dungeon Battle

At the beginning of the Dungeon Crusade, players are asked to choose a class to which a basic set of 10 cards is given. During their adventure, players will fight their way through 8 bosses, randomly dropping out of the total pool of 48 pieces. Each boss has a unique hero power and an assortment of cards and mechanics. This variability allows players to make a unique playthrough that will change with each new attempt.

Increasing complexity

Players will fight one boss at a time. As you progress through the bosses that you have to face will become more and more difficult. They will be very easy to defeat at first, but in the later stages you will have to use both powerful cards and cunning strategies. The final boss of the Dungeon Walk is a very difficult target for the brave players who made it far.

Permanent death

As with any dungeon journey, a lost attempt will lead to death! In the new mode, this means that the player's deck and progress will be instantly lost and he or she will have to start a new Campaign.

Completely all the details for each boss are not yet available, but read about their names, hero powers and some of the features that we managed to find out about below.

It turns out that bosses can have different hero powers depending on the level at which you meet them!

P.S. Since it is impossible to accurately verify (yet) all the descriptions and names of the bosses, the names will be in English, and the descriptions will be approximate.

Swagger King

King Wichlerpins is one of the final bosses of the Dungeon Walk. He starts the game with 2 mana crystals, so on his next turn (3 mana), he can immediately use the hero's power. His hero power generates one of the treasures you saw when you passed the dungeon. Also, at some point, he will play the Rakanishu card (this is the elemental that sits in the lantern at the top of his head). The card deals 4 points of damage to a random enemy.

Evol has several rays, these are the ones that are known now:

  • Confusion Beam: Take control of a random enemy creature.
  • Death ray: Destroy all enemy minions with incomplete health.
  • Decay ray: Destroy 1 enemy mana crystal.
  • Fear ray: Shuffles a random enemy creature into your opponent's deck.
  • Freezing ray: Freeze a random enemy creature and creatures near it.

As you will see in the video below, Zol is using the Warlock's Discard deck. Freeze Mage / Mage on Spell looks like one of the best decks against this final boss.

Choose a reward

After defeating the boss, players will be given the opportunity to choose new cards to strengthen their deck. The cards are offered in three sets with different themes, designed to interact with the player's class. Each class has many options for a set of spells, creatures, and various combinations.

Choosing a set increases the chances of a similar set being offered again, allowing you to build a strong deck with a certain amount of synergy to defeat the more difficult bosses that players will encounter in the later stages.

Like the bosses, the rewards on offer will be different on each run, providing players with a unique experience every time they start a Dungeon Walk.

There are two pieces of sword you can get in your treasure options: Qel'Delar's Handle and Qel'Delar's Blade!

Dungeon rewards

Sometimes players unlock powerful treasure maps that are unique to Dungeon Crawling. These treasures are downright powerful and won't make it into your card collection. However, they can provide players with enough strength to defeat the final boss.


Passive Treasure

Passive Treasures give players a permanent advantage from the start of every game. These treasures range from upgrading (like Maryele Pureheart) or weakening hero power to granting all creatures + 1 / + 1 (like Prince Keleseth).

  • Battle Totem - passive. Warcries fire twice.
  • Captured flag - passive. Your creatures get + 1 / + 1
  • Invisibility cloak - passive. Your creatures have a permanent "Disguise".
  • Ring Mariel - passive. Your hero power is improved and costs (1).
  • Khadgar's Scrying Orb - passive. Your spells cost (1) less.
  • Guard symbol - passive. Opponent creatures cost (1) more.
  • Mysterious tome - passive. At the start of the match, you play 3 random secrets.
  • Vitality potion - passive. Doubles your health at the start of a match.
  • Summoning scepter - passive. Your creatures cost (5) or more (5).
  • Backpacks - passive. At the start of the match, you draw 2 cards.

Active treasures

The rest of the treasure is added to the player's deck just like any other card. However, for their cost, they have an absurd level of power. When used, these treasure maps can quickly turn the outcome of a match in the player's favor. They include completely new mechanics: stealing cards directly from the opponent's hands and recruiting creatures.

  • Amulet of Dominance (2 mana) - You gain control of an enemy creature and add this card to your dungeon deck.
  • Bag of coins (0 mana) - fills your hand with Coins.
  • Walking Boots (1 mana) - Your creatures cost (0) this turn.
  • Boombox Dr. Boom (4 mana) - Summons 7 explosion bots.
  • Coals of Ragnaros (3 mana) - Launches three fireballs at random enemies, dealing 8 damage. damage.
  • Robber's Gloves (1 mana) - You steal 3 cards from the opponent's hand.
  • Golden kobold (3 mana - 6 attack - 6 health) - provocation. Battle Cry: Replaces cards in your hand with legendary creatures.

  • Smashing dagger (2 mana - 1 attack - 4 durability) - poison. Mega Windfury (Can attack four times per turn)
  • Wand of disincarnation (3 mana) - Imposes silence on all enemy creatures and destroys them.
  • Wax rage (3 Mana - 5 Attack - 1 Health) - Deathrattle: You summon this creature again.
  • A wish (10 Mana) - Summons legendary creatures to your side until the table is full. Fully restores health to your hero.
  • Magic wand (3 mana) - You draw 3 cards. They cost (0).
  • Magic mirror (1 mana) - you summon a copy of the selected creature and put it in the dungeon deck.

New Mode Rewards

Going through the dungeon with all nine classes is no easy feat - you'll be rewarded with an exclusive Candle King card back!

Blizzard has also added three one-off Dungeon Crawling missions, which will reward players with one set of Kobolds and one Catacomb card each. In addition to a free random Legendary weapon and three log-in boosters, this will give you three more card packs!

Here is a list of these unique quests:

  • Kobolds and Catacombs - Start the Dungeon Trek. Reward: 1 Kobolds and Catacombs booster;
  • Kobolds and Catacombs - Kill 5 bosses in dungeons. Reward: 1 Kobolds and Catacombs booster;

Suramar catacombs The Arcway is an old, unused tunnel network located just below Suramar and surpassing the city's area. The tunnels were abandoned after being filled with mana collectors and threatened with collapsing vaults. Through the catacombs, the life-giving mana obtained from the Nightwell circulated within the city. The tunnels were dug thousands of years ago, but were captured by various monsters when they stopped being used. The townspeople of Suramar can't even imagine who exactly lives under the streets of the city.

The Nightfallen, who were trying to revolt, sent a squad of heroes into the catacombs to take possession of important information stored in the underground library. Long ago, the Nightborne conducted a thorough exploration of the ley lines in Suramar and beyond, which could be of great benefit to the rebels now settling in Shal Aran. Thalyssra warned the heroes that not only the darkened were interested in the catacombs. One of Elisande's advisers, whom Thalyssra had once subordinated to, came to appear. The murder of the adviser could deprive the Grand Master of another weapon.

Invasion of the Nightfallen

Entering the catacombs, the heroes faced not only monsters, distorted by the influence of magical energy, but also with crowds of withered, attracted by mana. Ancient ghosts also lived here, who screamed at the intruders. The heroes cleared the main hall and went deeper into the tunnels until they reached the abandoned library in which Ivanir was hiding. This Nightborne was torn away from the power of the Nightwell and thrown into the catacombs, where he threw it through underground corridors, gradually drying up. In the library, he stumbled upon a cache and since then sat here all day, deciphering books and feeding on the energy of relics from the archives to maintain strength. Although the magic fed his body, Ivanir's mind gradually weakened and fell into decay. As soon as the heroes encountered him, Ivanir decided that they were thieves who were going to steal the relics, and attacked, but was destroyed.

In the next room, the squad found the Nightwell's guide, where the Nightborne and Korstilax, a huge enchanted golem, patrolled the tunnels and, finding anomalies, eliminated them. At that moment, Korstilax was working on the energy leak in the conductor and perceived the heroes as another anomaly that needed to be eliminated. However, the messengers of the darkened were able to cope with it.

From the guide they came to a crevice located under a large manarev in Suramar. Here lived Nal "tyra - a monstrous spider who received enormous powers thanks to the released magical energy. In her lair, the heroes encountered numerous offspring of Nal" tyra, who also fell under the influence of magic. When the spider herself entered the battle, the heroes discovered that she had the ability to teleport and that even her web had become enchanted. Despite all this, Nal "shooting gallery was destroyed, and the party continued on its way.

The crowds of demons lodging in the Fel Rift became another hindrance. A detachment of the Legion under the command of General Xakal was hiding in the catacombs, awaiting further orders. Gul Dan planned to use them to destroy Suramar if Elisande refused to take the side of the Legion. Xakal and his demons were ready at any moment to break out into the streets of the city and begin to sow death. The heroes destroyed both the evil general and his many servants.

Finally, the advisor Vandros appeared in the catacombs, already aware of the invasion of the darkened and persistently calling the heroes rats, from which the tunnels must be cleared. The messengers of Thalyssra fought with him, but Vandros gathered all his strength and sent them to another timeline, where they were to die at the hands of ghosts. The heroes were able to find their way back to the self-confident adviser and killed him after hearing threats that Elisande would never forgive them for this. They could now return to Shal Aran and inform Thalyssra of Vandros' death, as well as hand over the Leyline Card found in the library to Arcanist Valtrois.
