Door jamb plastic panels. How and with what to finish the slopes of the entrance door inside and outside the apartment? Ldsp: mounting on vertical racks

The front door forms the first impression of the home, so it must be both reliable and aesthetically pleasing and perfectly assembled. At the same time, the complete assembly cycle includes stages that are often neglected out of ignorance. These include finishing the slopes of the entrance door, which is necessary not only for the beauty of the structure, but also for high-quality operation for a long time.

What it is?

As practice shows, slopes are often confused with platbands, since platbands are their external, decorative part. By themselves, they carry only an aesthetic function. But the slopes are involved in ensuring tightness, sound insulation and thermal insulation, increase the resistance of the front door to burglary.

By definition, slopes are the inner and outer parts of the wall that "surround" the door frame. Slopes are also considered to be the left, right and top sides of a doorway in which a door is assumed but not installed. Not all types of doorways have slopes on both sides. Sometimes they can be absent from the outside, but from the inside they are in most cases.

The device of the door slope is quite complicated. High-quality slopes are not just parts of the wall that protrude beyond the frame, they are an optimal combination of materials, each of which is necessary to perform a separate function. Materials are applied according to the "puff cake" principle.

The first layer is rough. To create it are used:

  • Primer. It is applied to the cleaned wall surface as a pre-finish coating. Primers are necessary to level the absorbency of the surface, as well as to improve the "adhesion" of the following materials to it.

  • Styrofoam. This layer is optional, but desirable in cases where the wall needs to be insulated. This is true for apartments on the lower floors and private houses.

  • Plaster. The primer improves the adhesion of materials to the wall, but does not level the surface. Plastering is necessary to fill irregularities, depressions or cracks in the wall. This process is the most laborious and time consuming and requires certain skills and abilities.

Alternatively, you can use a material that is easier to use - drywall. This option allows you to quickly prepare the surface for further types of finishes, but it is not suitable in all cases. In the conditions of the Russian climate, it is more often used for interior decoration or in warm regions with high humidity.

  • Reinforcing corners... These thin but strong metal corners are essential to protect the plaster on the slope corners. The front door is a place with high traffic, and the corners of the opening often touch, hit, and scratch. Without proper protection, plastered corners will quickly begin to crumble and lose their presentable appearance.

  • Putty. With its help, all the shortcomings are leveled after installing the corners. Putty compounds lay in an uneven layer, therefore, after they dry, the surfaces of the slopes must be cleaned. For this purpose, fine-grained sheets of sandpaper or low power grinders are used. Furniture is also suitable if it reaches hard-to-reach places.

  • Re-primer before applying a decorative coating.

The second layer is finishing, or front. There are no strict rules for choosing finishing options. It depends only on individual preferences and financial capabilities. The only condition that must be met is to choose a finish that is in harmony with the door leaf and wall decoration.

How to decorate the interior of the apartment?

Slopes protrude from both the outer and inner sides of the door. Accordingly, there are two types of finishes - external and internal. External, as a rule, is less variable. The main focus is on the design of the door leaf, and the slopes echo either with it or with the wall decoration. More often than not, these are practical and concise options that do not attract attention.

Inside an apartment or house, the decoration of the slopes becomes part of the interior. She is assigned a decorative role, so the types of materials and methods of decoration are of great importance.

Finishing with facing materials from the inside is of the following types:

  • Plastering the surface.
  • Bonding finishing materials.
  • Frame cladding.
  • Coloring.

For the first type, plaster, primer, water and all the necessary tools are used. This process takes a lot of time, but it makes it possible to putty all the irregularities, insulate the structure, and make a layer of the required thickness. Decor made from other materials is often applied over the plaster, but in itself it is already considered a finished finish, therefore it belongs to the basic methods of repair.

After plastering, "clean" slopes can be easily painted in any suitable color, while they are sanded to smoothness or, on the contrary, are left embossed.

The following materials can be used for decoration:

  • Ceramic tiles (tiles). Differs in rigidity, moisture resistance, hygiene, low price and a wide range of colors, shapes and textures. It is easy to maintain a ceramic surface, however, the tile can crack or chip off if it is mechanically damaged, and during the replacement process you will have to work a lot so as not to damage the neighboring elements.

The indisputable advantage of tiles is the many design possibilities. The mosaic looks especially original. It can be made from small solid tiles or from small pieces. Fragments of the mosaic are artificially obtained from tiles, cutting them into pieces of the desired size, and handymen can use broken tiles for this purpose, which are considered unsuitable. The result is original and unique, and the cost of materials is minimal.

Any construction adhesive is suitable for gluing tiles. It is applied evenly with a plastic spatula, and the seams are rubbed in a day with a rubber spatula.

  • Porcelain stoneware. This material is often confused with ceramic tiles. Indeed, in the manufacture of porcelain stoneware, the same substance composition is used as for tiles, but the production technology is very different. As a result, the tile has a colored coating only on top and becomes ugly when chipped, and porcelain stoneware has a uniform color throughout the entire thickness of the slab and the damage on it is less noticeable. Also, its structure is denser, so it is more resistant to damage. In addition to being moisture resistant, environmentally friendly and durable, it also has frost resistance. In appearance, this material is more noble, but the color spectrum is very limited and its cost is higher than for ceramic tiles.

  • Decorative rock. It is truly an interior decoration, although it is far from always appropriate and is expensive. The peculiarity of this material is that it can be used to simulate real masonry. It has an attractive appearance, gives a zest to the interior, and is impeccable in terms of performance. The stone does not prick, it is easy to clean, it belongs to durable and safe materials. To fix it on the surface of the slopes, construction glue is used, but there are also ways to "sheathe" the surface with decorative stone.

  • Wallpaper. Wallpapering is perhaps the easiest and most affordable way to decorate. It is most convenient to stick wallpaper on slopes with plasterboard trim. The glue will "grab" and on the plaster, but the surface for this will have to be leveled especially carefully so that "bubbles" do not form on the wallpaper.

Given the high traffic at the entrance to the room, it is better to choose wallpaper washable and in dark colors.

Openings are sheathed using the following materials:

  • MDF... Fine particle size panels are very popular in all types of finishes. They are universal for any interiors, look aesthetically pleasing and have a number of other advantages: durability, a variety of coatings that imitate different types of wood, ease of installation, improved sound insulation and thermal insulation in the room.

  • Chipboard... Chipboard finishing is the easiest way to tidy up a part of the doorway if, after installing the door, it looks poor. In this case, you don't even need a primer and putty. It is enough to sheathe the surface with flat sheets, matching the tone and pattern to the door leaf.

  • Laminate. Laminate cladding is widespread for two reasons: it is inexpensive and looks much more solid than non-laminated recycled wood materials. The basis of the coating is fiberboard or chipboard (therefore, "to sew up chipboard slopes" means the same as a laminate), and on top it is decorated with a polymer film. The most common option is stylization for valuable wood species, but there are also other shades in a dark and light palette. It has a number of advantages inherent in all wood-based materials, as well as certain disadvantages. So, among the most common disadvantages are hydrophobia (the material can stratify and swell from water) and average wear resistance.

  • Dobory... Sheathing of internal slopes made of extrusion is rather a necessity than an element of decor. Dobors are narrow plates made of different materials, which are necessary for masking slopes, the width of which is more than 7 cm. As a rule, they are used when the door and the slopes must be sheathed in the same style and with the same materials.

  • Drywall. The choice of drywall is relevant when you need a high-quality and budget result, which is convenient to work with with your own hands. In addition, drywall perfectly levels the surface for future decorative finishes and enhances the insulating properties of the front door.

  • Plastic... No matter how versatile MDF, laminate and similar materials are, a plastic door requires the decoration of the adjacent space with PVC-based materials. The use of sandwich panels is especially popular. They have a variable width - from 5 to 150 cm, which allows covering each side of the slope with just one piece.

The performance characteristics of the product are also at their best: aesthetic appearance that lasts for a long time, biostability, resistance to humidity and temperature extremes, the presence of air sections inside the panels, which ensure the preservation of heat in the house, and hygiene.

Modern technologies for the manufacture of plastic guarantee its environmental safety and non-toxicity.

  • Siding... The characteristics of siding panels are very diverse, because they are made from various materials - from aluminum to plastic. The slopes are finished with aluminum, copper, wood, basement and vinyl siding.

The best option is vinyl. It is a monolithic PVC panel, the main feature of which is flexibility. It can be given absolutely any shape, ideally fit into corners without joints and gaps. Vinyl is not subject to decay and combustion processes, is not afraid of water, does not crack at temperature extremes, is easily cleaned of dirt, is not of interest to fungi and insects. The front side of the panels can be plain, with a pattern, stylized like stone, wood or brick.

Frame cladding implies the preliminary installation of a metal (aluminum) or wooden profile along the perimeter of the doorway, to which in the future any material is attached using self-tapping screws. This method is considered the most time consuming, since before fixing the profile, it is necessary to prime and level the slopes with cement mortar.

Some types of materials (plaster, chipboard, MDF and drywall without decorative coating) need to be painted for a harmonious combination with the interior of the room.

For these purposes, the following are used:

  • Acrylic paints. It is convenient to add them to the composition for surface plastering. This simultaneously reduces the number of finishing steps, since surface leveling and painting occur simultaneously, and makes damage less noticeable, since the entire layer of plaster is painted over;
  • Water-based... These paints can be added to plaster or painted over the wall over the leveling layer. When using acrylics and water-based paints, it is important to remember that they must be primed on top, otherwise the surface will get dirty. You can dilute the primer yourself from PVA and water in a ratio of 1: 5;
  • Latex based paints can also be used in two ways, but their advantage is that no final primer is needed. Latex compounds are non-hydrophobic and easy to clean;
  • Alkyd and oil. These compounds are indispensable in high humidity conditions. They are more durable and dense, but they are more difficult to work with due to their thick consistency and toxic odor.

How to insulate?

Thermal insulation and soundproofing are functions of the entrance door, which in part depend on the type of finishing of the slopes. You don't have to run to the store for a heater to insulate a room. First you need to take care of maximum tightness, and you should start with the front door. This will not only increase the level of comfort in the house, but also help in the long run to save finances on utility bills.

Insulation of slopes from the inside is carried out step by step:

  • Selection of materials. Leading positions are occupied by sandwich panels, drywall, foam plastic, mineral wool, polystyrene. Experts recommend choosing exactly polystyrene, which is superior to other materials in many respects. At a relatively low cost, it is capable of thermoforming and vacuum forming, is resistant to moisture and chemical processing, does not smell, is environmentally friendly, and lends itself to various types of processing. If there is no polystyrene, it can be replaced with a mineral board (wool).

  • Preparatory work. They include all measures for cleaning the work surface. It is necessary to cut off the polyurethane foam, remove the old coating, if any, eliminate irregularities as much as possible. After removing the old plaster, the surface must be dust-free with a vacuum cleaner and a damp sponge.

  • Primer and putty. It is imperative to prime the surface of the slopes. This will ensure high-quality adhesion of subsequent layers to the wall, and also minimize the likelihood of fungi and bacteria on the wall. Any deep action soil is suitable for this purpose. After applying it, the surface must be allowed to dry for 3-4 hours. Re-applying the primer to the plaster is permissible.

It is not necessary to putty the slopes, but it is desirable, especially if the surface has many defects, chips and depressions. All these small gaps greatly affect the insulating qualities of the front door.

  • Insulation installation. At this stage, it is the turn of the insulation material. Polystyrene boards and mineral wool are glued with specialized adhesives. The glue is applied with a spatula to the plate, then it is applied to the surface of the slope and adjusted to the level. Drying time of the glue - at least a day. After that, the plates are fixed with dowels.

  • Fastening the insulation. Ideally, polystyrene or mineral boards should be covered with plastic mesh for interior decoration. This will protect against cracks and the appearance of irregularities in the future. The glue is applied to the mesh in layers, each layer dries to hardness in 6-12 hours.

  • Leveling the surface. Putty is needed here again. You can level the surface up to 2-3 layers. Then you need to let it dry for the time indicated in the instructions on the container, and process it with fine-grained sandpaper. The grain number on the sandpaper package is at least 100.

  • Final finishing. It includes the application of a colorless primer followed by painting or any other method of decoration.

It is important to take into account that finishing materials have not only their own characteristics that affect thermal insulation, but also their weight. It is necessary to calculate in advance whether the insulated slope will withstand, for example, the weight of porcelain stoneware or lining, or if you should give preference to paint, plastic, wallpaper.

Colors

Slopes are an insignificant detail that can both support the style in the interior and completely break out of it. An inappropriate color of the finish will become an element that violates the integrity of the overall picture, therefore it is important to choose the right color in accordance with the design of the door and the decoration of the walls, floor and ceiling in the room.

The slopes on the doors are not only an insulating element for door decoration, but also perform an aesthetic function. The process of installing slopes on the door requires special attention, because there are different methods and technologies for finishing. In the provided article, we will consider issues related to the installation of slopes in various ways.

Ways to design slopes

There are different options for installing door slopes, which are determined by the type of material, work technology, and the like. When installing with your own hands, it is important to follow the recommendations of specialists and detailed installation instructions. It is important to ensure that the materials used are practical and durable, while they must perform an insulating function, especially when finishing the slopes of the entrance door.

The installation of door slopes must correspond to some tasks, which are to securely fix the fasteners, as well as to perform a decorative function. Determining the variations in the finishing of the slopes, experts distinguish the surface cladding with various materials that are attached to the base with the assistance of mortar and plaster. Some elements can be attached to the frame base using a drill or other devices.

As objects of decoration, you can revet the slopes on doors made of laminate, drywall, plastic or wood panels, MDF and the like. All materials are perfect for decoration, both for interior doors and for entrance doors. In the latter case, it is necessary to provide reliable sound insulation and complete sealing, which foresees a thorough embedding of the slopes.

The slopes for the entrance door should not have any voids, which increases the strength and reliability of the cladding. On top of the putty or mortar, you can use different materials for finishing. The main thing is that they are combined with the interior design of an apartment or house. If a huge amount of mortar is needed for finishing, for example, to align the corners, then a frame can be installed on the slopes. Its base can be wooden slats or a metal profile on which facing materials are installed.

It is worth noting that finishing the slopes under the frame will create a smoother surface than plastering. Moreover, finishing with wood or plastic panels looks more attractive than painting the surface and so on. In particular, it is much easier to conduct telephone, electrical and other communications through the frame slopes.

It is important that the opening in the doors has a maximum service life, is durable and practically does not succumb to mechanical and other damage. To do this, you need to know the rules and technologies for installing slopes on the door yourself. No less attention is paid to the choice of facing material, which are distinguished:

1. Finishing with plasterboard. Such material will hide all the unevenness of the slopes. Using this option, you will get rid of unnecessary waste for the purchase of putty and other solutions designed to level a certain area. In this case, the possibility of installing the frame base will disappear.

2. Plastering of slopes on the door. This method is considered the most economical and practical, while all the work can be done independently. For this, it is important to cover the work surface with plaster, after which you can start finishing.

3. Plastic panels. They are very often used for finishing window openings. They are rarely used in door openings, because plastic materials will stand out against the background of a wooden product. Moreover, this option is not reliable and durable.

4. Wooden slopes. This finish is the most popular. Wood is a durable and reliable material that will last a long time. This finish will suit different room interiors.

Plasterboard door slopes

Drywall is not used for decoration, but is the basis for the slopes. This option is used to save money on the purchase of different mixtures for leveling the walls. Installation work should begin with preliminary surface preparation, which includes cleaning the walls, as well as priming:

1. After the surface has dried, it is necessary to make all measurements and prepare materials for finishing the slopes on the front door with your own hands. When trimming material, make sure that some parts are cut at an angle. This is necessary for fixing parts to a deflected surface.

2. After cutting the sheets, check if all the elements fit under the doorway.

3. Next, you should wait for the complete drying of the primer layer, after which you can install the panels. Special glue or dowels can be used as fasteners. It is recommended to use the first option, which will allow the drywall sheets to be held together more evenly.

4. The installation process should begin with the installation of the side parts of the opening, and in the end, the upper area lends itself to finishing.

5. The adhesive can be applied in a continuous strip or in separate dots, for example, every 15 centimeters.

6. After the drywall sheets are securely fixed, it is necessary to finish the surface by attaching the perforated corners by applying a putty.

Plastering door slopes

This type of work does not present certain difficulties and requires minimal costs. The process of finishing with plaster of slopes has the following sequence:

1. First, the work surface must be cleaned and primed.

2. After the primer layer has dried, it is advised to start applying the solution to the surface of the slopes. It is recommended to use a spatula for work.

3. For the corners of the opening to be even, it is important to use perforated metal corners. They are attached to the surface using a plaster layer and carefully painted over.

4. After the plaster has dried, the surface of the slopes should be cleaned with sandpaper.

5. The last stage is the processing of the walls with the use of paints and varnishes, which will give aesthetics.

Decorating slopes with plastic panels

Do-it-yourself door slopes can be made from plastic panels. The execution of work has the following sequence:

1. First, it is necessary to make measurements of door slopes and cut plastic panels that would correspond to these parameters.

2. In work, use an electric jigsaw, not a regular knife. This is necessary so that all parts in the cut points are even.

3. After trimming, all panels must be checked against the doorway.

4. First, install the side slopes. For this, a special profile is fixed to the opening with the assistance of self-tapping screws.

5. From the edge of the wall, you need to attach wooden slats. It is important to check the evenness of the installation elements with the assistance of the building level. Plastic panels will be attached to such slats using staples.

6. In the lower area, a plug is installed on the plastic panels, and the trim item is inserted into the slopes on the sides and into the initial profile. The same procedure applies to finishing the slopes above the doors.

7. The last step is the treatment and sealing of the joints using silicone. For the installation of plastic slopes, it is recommended to choose PVC sheets, as well as special sandwich panels.

Decorating slopes with wood

Wood trim is perfect for both metal door slopes and wooden ones. Of course, in the work you can use materials made from natural wood, or use laminated or MDF panels. If you want to prefer a material that would have excellent insulating properties, then it is recommended to use MDV boards. If their parameters do not fit the dimensions of the slopes, then laminate flooring can be an excellent alternative.

Initially, the installation work begins with the careful sealing of the joints between the door frame and the wall surface. After that, the remaining foam must be removed, cleaned and carefully primed. Slopes can be made at right angles or with a slight slope. After determining the shape of the slopes, it is necessary to fix all the panels. In work, it is necessary to carefully monitor the correct selection of wooden planks. It is important that they have the same thickness and dimensions on both sides.

The slats or frame must be fixed to the wall with the assistance of dowels, which refers to fixing all parts. Slopes can be attached using glue or self-tapping screws. All gaps must be sealed with silicone sealant. Slopes made of wooden panels look very aesthetically pleasing in any room interior.

Detailed instructions for installing slopes for entrance doors

Finishing work must be carried out taking into account the dimensions of the doorway and the materials used. If, when installing slopes in interior openings, there is no need to make insulation, then for entrance doors such a procedure is an important element. To the question: how to make slopes on the front door, it is necessary to pay special attention to sealing openings from drafts and sounds that come from the staircase.

Slopes must be strong and reliable. In this case, experts suggest doing plastering or using different combinations. For example, you can plaster the walls on top of which MDF panels are attached. Each one uses items for decoration from his own preferences. To carry out the work, it is necessary to prepare similar materials and devices:

  • polyurethane foam;
  • lime, cement;
  • putty, primer;
  • sand;
  • glue, dowels, if necessary, "liquid nails";
  • electric jigsaw;
  • building level;
  • brushes, spatula;
  • perforated corners.

To reveal the question: how to make the slopes on the doors even? - we recommend that you study the detailed instructions for performing work.

1. First of all, it is important to seal all the cracks. After installing the door, it is important to carefully fill all the gaps between the frame and the wall with polyurethane foam. Next, you need to wait until the foam hardens. All residues must be cut off with an ordinary knife and carefully smoothed out the cracks.

2. Surface preparation is important for further plastering of the wall. All work takes a long time, so it is recommended to process the surface in several layers. First, a layer of primer is applied to the wall, which will better strengthen the plaster mortar. To achieve a perfectly flat surface, it is necessary to use a beacon profile, which is fixed with dowels.

3. Next, we carry out the plastering of the slopes. For the manufacture of mortar, it is necessary to use cement, sand, lime mortar. The technology for applying the mixture to the surface should be started from the upper area of the slopes. First, the putty is applied in a thick layer, after which the excess amount is removed by leveling the wall. To keep the slope angles even, it is recommended to use a perforated profile. They are fixed on the surface with the applied plaster mixture. Next, a fine layer of plaster is applied, which should be thin. This process will remove all irregularities and roughness.

4. The final stage is fixing the MDF panels. The base for such panels must be made of lime-cement mortar. After it dries, a layer of primer is applied to the surface. The panels must be divided into three parts, each of which must correspond to the door slopes. A layer of glue must be applied to the surface of the wall, after which the panels are applied to the wall. Such work must be done with all the details.

To understand the scheme of work, we recommend watching the video about finishing the slopes for doors, presented at the end of the article. When finishing, due attention should be paid to cutting the slab. For this, all angles are carefully measured, and it is important to cut the panels at a certain angle. After trimming the plastic or wood panel, all parts need to be connected to check if they match the door slopes. The ideal combination of finishing slopes will be the use of wood panels and doors made of this material.

Even the most luxurious front door will look unpresentable if the slopes around it are sloppy. They are designed to serve as a beautiful frame, complement and highlight the main element -. To decide how to trim the slopes of the entrance door, you need to pay attention to its style, design and color scheme. The slopes framing the entrance inside the apartment must correspond not only to the decorative parameters of the door, but also to the design of the hallway.

In addition to a purely decorative function, these elements around should also serve as additional effective insulation, since their plane covers the joints between the door frame and the wall.

How can you trim the slopes?

The finishing of the slopes in the running door can be made from different materials, or you can simply put the existing slopes in order.

1. If the door is reliable and strong, but not outstanding in design, you can simply level the slopes with plaster, reinforcing their corners. Such work is usually carried out both from the side of the entrance and in the hallway.

Slopes can be neatly finished with plaster

Plastered slopes will look quite neat - they can be painted in a color close to the shade of the door itself or to match the wallpaper in the hallway.

2. In the case when the walls of the house are thick enough, and the slopes are wide, you can use such familiar material as drywall for finishing. It will make the walls warmer and reliably close the joints between the door frame and the wall, giving the slopes a neat look.

Drywall, if desired, can be pasted over with wallpaper or covered with paint. The advantage of this material is that you do not have to painfully level the plaster using a rule and then clean the wall.

3. You can make slopes from natural wood if it is suitable for finishing the door. Wood has always been popular and has never gone out of fashion, it goes well with almost any interior, and its tint can be easily changed using modern or folk remedies.

The tree will reliably serve for many years without changing its natural decorative properties. In extreme cases, it can be painted to match the color of the hallway.

4. An alternative to wood can be a laminated lining based on fiberboard.

Since the lining is produced in various colors and imitates the textured patterns of a wide variety of wood species, it can be matched to any design of the hallway. However, it is not recommended to trim the slopes from the outside of the door with this material, since it will not last long there.

5. Ready-made PVC panels can be another finishing option. They are produced in various widths and in a wide range of colors. The production and sale of such parts is carried out by specialized firms, in which there are masters who are engaged in installing panels.

One of the most successful solutions is carefully fitted PVC panels.

This finish looks respectable and aesthetically pleasing. PVC panels will last for a long time, but it is also better to install them from the side of the apartment, and from the side of the entrance, use the first or second method described above for finishing.

If you are confident in your abilities, then ready-made slope details can be installed on your own.

Another option for using polymers for finishing the inside of the door can be plastic lining. It is also easy to match it to the color of the hallway walls, since there is a wide range of this material on sale.

6. Sheathed slopes and chipboard panels - they are mainly used for very thick walls. However, it should be noted that at present this method of finishing is not very popular, since a large number of other materials have appeared that can easily replace these rather heavy panels in installation.

Nevertheless, if this material of the required dimensions was found at home, then it may well be used to decorate the door slopes from the side of the apartment.

It should be noted that there are other materials that can be used to tidy up the planes around the door, but the above options are the most popular.

Tools and building materials for finishing slopes

For finishing the slopes, you will need materials and tools that will help to carry out all the work neatly.

1. For plastering work you will need:

  • primer and finishing putty for surface preparation.
  • plaster mix or traditional cement mortar.
  • perforated metal corner for aligning corners.
  • a serpyanka mesh, a clerical knife and self-tapping screws will be needed if the slopes are made of drywall.
  • sandpaper coarse and fine-grained.
  • wide and medium trowel.
  • shorthand rule for leveling the surface of slopes.
  • container for mixing the solution, a drill with a special mixing attachment
  • plumb line and level.

2. For the installation of panels made of different materials, it is necessary to prepare:

  • ready-made panels for installation on slopes or material for them.
  • decorative corners and platbands for closing panel joints.
  • timber with a section of 15 × 30 or 20 × 30 mm, if the lining will be installed.
  • dowels for fixing panels or timber to the wall.
  • small nails and special holders for the lining.
  • hammer drill or hammer drill if the house has concrete walls.
  • self-tapping screws for fixing panels.
  • measuring instruments.
  • hacksaw or jigsaw, screwdriver, knife, hammer, etc.

Having prepared everything you need, you can proceed to surface preparation and installation.

Slope finishing technology in the running door

Each type of slope finishing work has its own characteristics:

  • The installation of many of the materials presented is carried out using the same technology.
  • Some of the finishing technologies are distinguished by their simplicity, and with the right approach to work, they can well be done independently.
  • Others can be used for independent use only if the homeowner has the necessary skills in working with building mixtures and tools.

All measures for the installation of slopes begin after the door is installed and all the gaps between the door frame and the wall are sealed. In addition, all breakaway parts of the old pavement are removed from the slopes and crumbling areas are cleaned. When these works are carried out, they start finishing in the chosen way.

Plastering of slopes

If the decision is made to level and plaster the slopes, the process goes to following sequence:

  • First of all, the cleaned surface should be well primed, preferably in two layers, but the second time the primer is applied only after the first layer has dried.
  • Further, the evenness of the slope angles is clarified. If deviations from the norm are determined, then this fact must be taken into account when installing reinforcing corners. They can align corners that have small deviations from the vertical.

  • Then it is necessary to set perforated corners at the corners of the slopes along the plumb line and level. They are best planted on a ready-to-use finishing putty. It is applied with a spatula to the corners of the slopes - the composition will serve for gluing the corner and makes it possible to align it to a perfectly vertical or horizontal position. Excess mortar, which will show through the holes in the corner, must be immediately removed with a spatula. Having brought the corners to the ideal, the solution under the corners is left to dry.
  • If the surface of the slope is uneven, then before installing the perforated corners on the corners, you can set the direction from the door jamb by fixing a narrow strip of drywall 8-10 mm wide along it. This material is fixed to the wall with a putty. If it is on a gypsum base, then it solidifies quickly enough.
  • The edge of the plasterboard strip and the installed reinforcing corner will become points that need to be connected with a putty solution and leveled with plaster.
  • Further, after drying the elements correcting the wall, the putty is diluted in the proportions indicated on the package to a pasty consistency.

  • Using a trowel, throw the finished composition onto the wall, starting from the floor. Having sketched the required amount, about a meter in height, the putty is leveled with a rule. In this case, the beacons are a perforated corner fixed at the corner and a strip of drywall fixed along the door frame.

  • Then the solution is poured onto the next section and is also leveled, and so on to the top of the opening.
  • It will be more difficult to putty the ceiling part of the opening. Putty is applied to it with a wide spatula and leveled with a short rule. Then putty is applied to the wall above the correct opening, and it covers the upper part of the metal corner.

  • The slopes treated with putty are left to dry. The time of this process depends on the thickness of the layer and the composition of the putty.
  • After this layer has dried, you need to check the quality of the surface, remove possible minor imperfections - chip off or clean the incoming irregularities. Then the slopes need to be removed with a finishing putty to perfect evenness.
  • Further, after the filler layer has dried, it is covered with a primer.

The resulting surface can be painted, wallpapered or finished with decorative plaster.

It is easier and more pleasant to work with drywall than with the removal of slopes using plaster. Nevertheless, in this case, you still have to work with the finishing putty, which will play the role of an adhesive composition for drywall sheets, but it is still better to use a special gypsum-based glue for this purpose, produced specifically for working with gypsum plasterboard.

If space is limited, then drywall is perfect for decorating slopes. This process is carried out in the following sequence:

  • To begin with, all surfaces of the slopes are measured. separately.
  • The obtained data is transferred to the sheets of gypsum fiber board, and elements are cut out from them, which will be fixed on the walls.

  • Installation of finished parts starts from the ceiling of the opening. To do this, glue is applied to the drywall blank in several slides, and then this element is firmly pressed against the installation site and fixed in this position by pre-prepared supports.

  • Then the sloping walls are finished with the details cut out from the gypsum fiber board. Glue is also placed on the prepared element in small slides, and the sheet is pressed against the wall and measured according to the level. Plasterboard sheets can be fixed to the wall with hammer-in dowels, making through holes for them, but not too wide, using an electric drill or perforator.

  • On the corners of the slopes, in the same way as when plastering, metal perforated corners are fixed with putty.
  • Then all joints are coated with putty, leveled, and after drying, they are thoroughly cleaned.
  • Further, the entire surface of the slope is covered with a primer.
  • To achieve a perfect surface, a thin (no more than 1 mm) layer of finishing putty is applied. It will completely hide all irregularities, joints and holes from the dowels.
  • After the layer of putty has completely solidified and, if necessary, sanding with fine-grained sandpaper, you can start decorating the slopes. They can be painted, pasted over or covered with decorative plaster.

Fasten drywall and otherwise, in the event that you need to level the surface, covering a significant thickness from the wall.

Combined fastening of plasterboard parts - on glue and on guides
  • To do this, bars of the desired section or metal profiles, corners or U-shaped shapes are fixed on the slope surface, thus creating a crate that will help level the wall, giving it the required direction. This mounting method has the advantage that additional insulation material can be placed between the guides fixed to the wall.
  • This whole structure is then covered with drywall, which is screwed to the bars with self-tapping screws. Further, the process proceeds in the same way as in the first option.

Decorating slopes with panels or clapboard

For finishing slopes with materials that produced in the form of rigid panels - fiberboard, lining of various types, MDF and others, a similar technology is used for attaching them to the wall. This method is attractive in that with the help of panels it is possible to align corners that have large deviations from the norm.

Installation of such materials is carried out as follows:

  • The primed surfaces of the slopes are marked out for fixing bars or a metal profile on them, on which the finishing material will be fixed in the future. These auxiliary elements are located at a distance of 30-40 cm from each other if they are installed across the slope. In this case, if lining is used for decoration, it will be mounted parallel to the door frame. If it is necessary for the panels to be located across the surface, then the bar is fixed along the jamb and closer to the angle of the slope. For a wide surface, not two, but three or even four bars are used.

  • You can carry out the lathing as shown in the picture - this option is called for fixing the lining parallel to the door.
  • After the installation of the lathing, it is recommended to lay an insulation material between the bars - it can be mineral wool, foam or one of the other modern insulation materials.
  • Further, the installation of the selected facing material is carried out along the crate. One-piece flat panels are installed end-to-end with each other, the lining is connected with a groove-tenon fastening.

  • The plastic and laminated lining is fixed to the bars from the side of the slotted part of the lock using special metal holders, which, with their protrusions, are put on the bottom shelf of the slot and are attached with a guide with small nails or self-tapping screws.

  • Panels, large in area, are screwed to the crate with self-tapping screws, the heads of which must be "drowned" by 1.5-2 mm into the thickness of the material. These holes are later sealed with wood putty with the addition of a dye of the appropriate shade.
  • Having finished with the installation of panels, the appearance of the slopes must be refined with corners matched to the color of the cladding. The corners are glued at the outer vertical and horizontal corners and at the junction of the door frame and finishing material.

Features of vinyl slopes

The most modern way to transform slopes is to install vinyl panels. They can be purchased from specialized firms that are engaged in both the manufacture and installation of this finishing material. If it has a non-standard shape of the slopes, then they are made to order, after measuring the parameters. The surface of the slopes can imitate many natural materials, so they can be matched literally to any interior of the hallway and the color of the entrance door.

The most important advantages of ready-made panels in their installation are its speed and the absence of a large amount of debris and dirt in the process. It should be said about the aesthetic qualities of this finish - it is cut exactly to the size of the slopes and has no joints or seams on the planes. The only connections that cannot be abandoned are the joints of the horizontal and vertical planes. The material looks very presentable and neat.

For the installation of such slopes, universal glue is used, which has the properties of firmly connecting various materials to each other, such as wood and concrete, brick and chipboard, vinyl and plaster surface - almost everything used in construction and decoration. In addition, they are often attached to polyurethane foam.

These adhesives are applied to the inner surface of the finishing panels, and they are pressed against the slopes around the door. In this case, there is no need to drill holes in the facing material and walls, which can also be called an indisputable advantage of this technology of installation work.

By doing the work in stages and adhering to the technology, it is quite possible to independently complete the work on finishing the door slopes. Even without the opportunity to purchase finishing material, many apartment owners use what is at hand, for example, chipboard panels from used furniture. But still the most affordable and easy-to-install (except for ready-made vinyl panels) is the option using. It opens up wide possibilities for finishing decoration in almost any existing way.

When changing doors in an apartment, a person inevitably faces the question: "How to trim door slopes?" Even if the installation of the doors is carried out by an invited specialist, in this matter he is not your assistant.
The master will only install the box according to the level, filling the seams with polyurethane foam, hang the door leaf, insert the fittings - and that's it. What to do next, you will think for yourself.
We will tell you about all the possible options for finishing the slopes, and how to do it yourself. There are several types of materials that can be used for this purpose.

Most often, this method of leveling the slope is resorted to when the walls of the premises are also sheathed with plasterboard. Depending on the width of the slope and the degree of its unevenness, finishing can be done in two ways.
So:

  • If the assembly seams are small and the slope is slightly damaged, the parts cut from the gypsum board sheet can be glued with gypsum glue. To do this, the surface on which the gluing will be carried out must be well cleaned and covered with a layer of primer.

  • Naturally, you need to cut out the details of the slope as accurately as possible, taking into account the slope angle. Installation begins with the installation of the side panels.
Dilute the dry glue mixture with water, as prescribed by the instructions on the package. Apply the finished glue in a continuous layer to the part of the slope and press it against the prepared surface.
  • When the panels are installed, they must be fixed with masking tape and allowed to dry with glue. Then all the seams need to be putty, and then cleaned with sandpaper (zero).
After applying another layer of primer, the slope is ready for subsequent finishing.

  • Finishing door slopes in the second way is the installation of plasterboard panels on an aluminum profile frame. It is more complex, and is used for frame cladding of the walls of the room, which significantly increases the depth of the slope.
  • This is the prerogative of specialists working with drywall - few people can do it on their own without having certain skills.

To protect the corners of the slopes from accidental damage in the future, decorative plastic corners are glued to them. This applies not only to plasterboard slopes, but also plaster and plastic.

Plaster slopes

Considering that in most living quarters the walls are plastered, it is quite logical that the door slopes will be finished with their own hands in the same way. Special knowledge is not required here, only some tools are needed, without which an even corner will not work.

Tools and materials

To mix the solution, in addition to the container, you will need a drill with a mixer attachment. To provide the slope with straight lines, you need: a two-meter building level and a rule.
You also need two spatulas: one with a width slightly exceeding the width of the slope, the second smaller. It is convenient to use a flat brush to prime surfaces.

So:

  • If you do not plan to use plastic corners during subsequent finishing, you can protect the outer corners of the slope in another way. For this purpose, a perforated metal corner is also used, which, before finishing the door slopes, is attached to the base surface of the slope with liquid nails or polyurethane foam.
  • To strengthen the plane of the slope, or an opening without a door, a plaster mesh made of fiberglass is used. And there is a version of the corner, combined with the grid into a single element - it is very convenient to use it.

  • To prepare the solution, you will need to purchase dry gypsum plaster, diluted with water to the desired consistency. To save the solution, you may need polystyrene foam.
  • If there are deep potholes in the slope, or its thickness exceeds two centimeters, pieces of foam are placed in the deepest places, and a layer of plaster is applied on top.
  • In order not to spoil the door frame, its surface is preliminarily pasted over with masking tape. Only then can you start priming and plastering the slope.

The last step in the rough finish of the slope will be the treatment of the plastered surface with fine emery paper to achieve smoothness, and another layer of primer. To see how the plastering of door slopes is done - videos, of which there are a lot on the Internet, will help you a lot.

Plastic slopes

The easiest way to finish the slope is made of plastic. The price of this material is the lowest in comparison with the rest.
The only "but" - plastic slopes will not look harmonious everywhere. The most expedient is the finishing of the slopes of windows and doors with plastic, if a window, door, or wall cladding of the room is made from it.
The ideal option for such a finish is usually kitchens, loggias, and bathrooms.
So:

  • The most important thing when working with plastic is to achieve the most even and accurate cut. To do this, it is better to use an electric jigsaw rather than a knife.
Naturally, measurements must be made accurately, then it is much easier to fit the parts to each other.
Plastic walls and slopes
  • For window slopes, white sandwich panels are most often used, and any PVC panel is suitable for finishing the doorway. If this is a balcony door, the trim of the slopes of which is made of colored plastic, then the slopes of the window next to it are decorated in the same way.
The picture above is an illustrative example of such a finish.
  • If the doorway was badly damaged when dismantling the old door, then before finishing the door slopes with plastic, it is better to first remove the plaster slope with a margin of 1 cm. It will not need to be sanded under the plastic, and you can use cement instead of plaster.
  • If there is no significant damage to the opening, the potholes can simply be filled with polyurethane foam. The same is done when MDF panels are used for decoration.
  • To mount the PVC panel, a starting plastic profile is fixed to the door frame with self-tapping screws. The side parts are installed first, and then the horizontal part.
Any universal glue, provided for working with this material, is applied to the plastic.
  • The panel is inserted into the groove of the profile and pressed tightly to the surface. Then the glued part must be additionally fixed until the glue is completely dry.
You can do this with masking tape, or just prop it up with something.

When the panels are mounted, the seams between them must be filled with sealant, and then closed with decorative corners. This completes the finishing of the slopes on the balcony door.

Wooden slopes

Considering that interior doors are made of wood, it is quite logical that the slopes can be made of the same material. Such a doorway design will look harmonious in any interior.

So:

  • For finishing the slope, you can, of course, use solid wood panels, but veneered or laminated MDF is most often used. Ordinary laminate flooring is also suitable.
The main thing is that its color is ideally matched to the color of the door.
  • The technology for installing wooden panels is similar to plastic, only instead of a guide profile, there will be strips that are attached to the base surface with dowels. Further, the panels are screwed to the slats with self-tapping screws, not forgetting to apply glue to the back side.
The joints between the panels are also sealed and closed with a corner.

  • There is another option: when buying doors, you can immediately buy additional strips in color. Sometimes they are included.
They are made of chipboard, covered with PVC film, imitating the texture of wood.
  • Addons can also be used if the width of the doorway is larger than the width of the frame. Since these strips are attached directly to the box, add-ons are mounted in the groove located on the back side even before the door is installed.

Sometimes door slopes are trimmed with decorative stone.... This option is more suitable for entrance doors.
Indoors, such decoration is rare - mainly in design projects, but in the interiors of mansions. The floor or fireplace can be laid out of the same stone; appropriate accessories for the decoration of the room can be used.
In this case, the slopes made of decorative stone look original and appropriate.

Recently, I learned in detail what door slopes are and what they are after the door has been installed. The fact is that if you order the installation of entrance or interior doors, the craftsmen often just do their job, without being puzzled by what you will do with the slopes.

And here there are two options, hire a team of finishers and pay them decent money for a trifle job, or make door slopes with your own hands. I chose the second option, and to be honest, I ran into certain difficulties.

I hope this article will help you avoid my mistakes and do everything efficiently and reliably.

Finishing door slopes

After the installation of interior doors was over, and I already wanted to relax, it turned out that there is such a thing as door slopes, and after installation they look very impartial. Leaving them like this would ruin the whole look of the house.

The question arose - how to close them up. Two options immediately came to mind:

  • Plaster and then paint.
  • Make door slopes from the laminate that was left over from the renovation.

Both options are equally practical, but the installation of laminate flooring requires at least a small crate, which is not always possible to install, especially if the opening is already narrow. In this case, plastering of door slopes is an ideal option, which does not require large financial costs and special skills in construction.

But first things first.

Plaster

Before proceeding to the description of the process of plastering the slopes on the door, you need to figure out why this method is better than others, and why you should give it preference. As you know, everything has its pros and cons. Plaster is no exception.

Advantages

  1. There is no need to install a lathing that hides the width of the opening, which is especially important for interior doors.
  2. It is possible to close up the slopes on the door yourself, without the involvement of builders and, accordingly, additional costs.
  3. Relatively low cost of all necessary materials and tools.
  4. The whole process will only take a few hours, even if there is no relevant experience.

Well, now a little about the negative side of such door slopes.

disadvantages

  1. After plastering, door slopes require an additional coat of paint.
  2. The aesthetic component leaves much to be desired.

To be honest, I have been looking for negative sides for a long time, but I haven’t found it, so we will stop at what we have and move on to the editing process.

Plastering slopes

Plastering door slopes, like any other repair, requires the preparation of materials and tools to facilitate this moment, we will list everything that we may need.

Tool:

  • Putty knife.
  • Construction level.
  • Grout with fine sandpaper.
  • Roller or brush for applying the primer.
  • Screwdriver, if installation is carried out under the "beacons".
  • Trowel for initial surface leveling.

Materials:

  • Plaster mix. It is advisable to take ready-made, so as not to waste time on mixing cement with sand on your own.
  • "Lighthouses", two are enough for each slope.
  • Decorative corners that match the color of the room design.
  • Antibacterial primer-impregnation.

So, let's begin. First of all, it is necessary to thoroughly clean the slope surface from possible contamination: dust, dirt.

Important! An uncleaned surface adheres poorly to mixtures and after a few months the plaster will begin to fall off.

Next, we prime the surface with a roller or brush. Do not feel sorry for the primer, as they say - you can't spoil the porridge with oil. Moreover, cold bridges are always formed near the door, which can lead to the formation of condensation.

The primer must be allowed to dry well and only then proceed to the installation of the "beacons". By the way, if you have skills in plastering, then you can do without them. Lighthouses are installed along the edges of the slopes and fixed to the wall using self-tapping screws or dowels.

After that, a plaster mixture is prepared, or rather, it is simply diluted with water in the proportions indicated on the package.

The plaster is applied with a trowel to the entire slope from bottom to top. And with the help of a trowel, which is leaned against two beacons, and the excess mixture is removed.

The leveled layer of plaster is left to dry completely, and only after that the surface is leveled with fine sandpaper.

Now it remains to make a decorative coating and set the corners. At this, the installation can be considered complete.

Laminate

It is somewhat more difficult to make slats for doors using laminate than just plastering. Installation takes place in two stages:

  1. Manufacturing of lathing.
  2. Installation of laminate.

The tool list is even shorter than when working with plaster.

  • Screwdriver.
  • Hammer.
  • Adhesive for fixing decorative corners.

Materials:

  • Laminate.
  • Dowel.
  • The block is wooden.
  • Decorative corner.
  • Self-tapping screws for wood or drywall.

Advice! if the width of the slope does not exceed 20 cm, then the laminate can be installed lengthwise. If the panel is narrower in width than the slope, then the installation will have to be done horizontally from small segments.

Manufacturing of lathing

A wooden beam is best suited for these purposes, since it is thinner than a metal profile and the opening will not lose much in size. The timber must be treated with impregnations as well as the wall itself. This will keep the wood from rotting and will significantly extend the life of the finish.

The bar is attached to the wall with dowels with a step of about 50 cm, there should be two such guides, one on each side of the slope, but if the opening is very wide, then it may be necessary to install a third bar in the middle.

After the crate is ready, you can move on to the laminate.

Installation of laminate

Installation of laminate door slopes starts from the bottom up. The first segment is installed to the floor with a minimum gap of 2-3 mm, since the laminate has no thermal deformation, this is quite enough. Further, the whole process is no different from floor mounting. The segments are connected to each other in a lock and snap into place.

Segments are attached to the crate with self-tapping screws to the very edge, subsequently the hats will be closed with decorative corners.

Advice! before attaching the laminate to the slope, it is advisable to pre-drill holes for self-tapping screws, since the edge of the laminate may crack or flatten.

After all the panels are fixed, you can put the corners. The easiest way is to fix them with glue, this is the simplest and most reliable way.

Conclusion

Having dealt with the question of how to repair the slopes after installing the entrance or interior doors, you can safely get down to work. Of course, there are many other ways to do this, but the option described in this article is the most inexpensive and, probably, the simplest.
