Arches made of plastic pipes as a support for roses

The attractiveness of the portal erected from plastic pipes lies not only in the stylish and laconic design, but also in the relatively low cost. And the ability to quickly install the structure makes it the best option for a garden or summer cottage.

In order to make an arch from a plastic pipe with your own hands, you do not need to be an experienced construction specialist or a professional landscape designer. It is enough just to adhere to the basic rules and recommendations.

Garden arch in a few hours: step by step

To obtain the desired results, you need to carry out the appropriate measurements and calculations, as well as think over all the nuances by recreating the mental projection of the future structure. The resulting image is transferred to paper in the form of a drawing.

Example of a plastic construction

Connection of individual elements with a soldering iron

The integral structure of the arch consists of separate components, which are pieces of a 20 mm water supply pipe, interconnected by fittings. Therefore, the assembly process takes place according to the "constructor" principle. For reliable fixation of parts, an "iron" with a corresponding attachment is used.

How to make a garden arch from plastic pipes:

  1. Depending on the desired dimensions of the arch, the pipe is cut into sections of a certain size.
  2. Select adapters. Here, the main criterion is compliance in diameter and size.
  3. All areas of contact are degreased.
  4. After the parts put on the "ironing" attachment are completely warmed up, they must be inserted into the adapter. The joints should not be touched until they are completely cooled.

Material for work

Connection of individual elements with glue

This is a very fast, simple and convenient method that requires one jar of glue. The technology for working with it is no different from that used in any other gluing.

Step-by-step instruction:

  1. A layer of glue is applied to the end of the outer surface of the pipe segment.
  2. Then, in the same way, you should smear the inner surface of the tee.
  3. After that, the parts only need to be connected and turned, relative to each other.

Plastic arch with wood imitation

Fifteen seconds of waiting and you can use it!

It's even easier to buy a ready-made plastic garden arch. The variety of shapes, colors and designs allows you to choose a design element for any stylistic direction.

Arch made of plastic for wickets

Installation and design of the arched structure

After all the components are securely fixed between themselves, it remains to install the plastic structure into the ground. This is an equally important stage and must be taken seriously. Otherwise, the installed arch may simply fall off at the first gust of wind.

The bent arch should be installed in pits 30 cm deep, then covered with earth and tamped securely. The distance between the edges can be arbitrary, and the height should not impede free passage.

Stylish garden decoration

The fundamental rule for creating an arched opening as part of a unique landscape is its competent and harmonious weaving into the structure of the surrounding nature. Therefore, the arch must match the overall design of the garden. So, a monumental opening will look ridiculous against the background of a small house or in the middle of a plot with an area of 6-7 acres.

As an additional decor, you can and should use climbing evergreens and climbing roses. They will help add volume. It is not worth planting the first plants that come across - it is important to take into account the individual characteristics of the culture and the local climate, so that the arch looks attractive in any season.

DIY plastic pipe garden arch: types and features of construction

Arched structure for the garden

  • Varieties
  • PVC pipe arch
  • How to weld the elements?

A garden arch is a structure that consists of upper, horizontal beams and vertical posts.

It is installed as a decorative element that will add splendor and charm to the site, or it can serve as a support for cultivated plants.

In any case, such a construction will delight the eye and at the same time serve as an excellent decoration of the landscape, such a highlight, making it refined, special, not like its neighbors.

Varieties

There are many different types of arches. They can be made of metal, stone, wood, or plastic. The latter type is considered the most economical and demanded. You can even build an arch from plumbing plastic pipes (PVC) with your own hands.

Arches also differ in the method of application. Some are used for practical purposes, for example, an arch made by hand from plastic pipes is perfect for grapes. Such a structure can not only shape the vineyard, but it will also serve as an excellent support for the vine. Other types of arches are installed to give the site an attractive appearance.

Such structures are also divided by location. The structure can be composed of several parts (a kind of flower / grape corridor is formed). It can also be designed as a gazebo. A single arch is also installed, which is not adjacent to anything.

As for the form, it can be any, depending on its application.

An arch made of plastic pipes is a great option for giving

Great decoration for the garden

An arch created from pieces of water / heating pipes is considered the best option for a summer residence. The installation of such a structure will only take a couple of hours.

When installing, it is worth remembering that not all types of plastic can tolerate high / low temperatures. Therefore, the structure should be made prefabricated.

The advantages of a plastic pipe arch

Unlike a wooden arch, a plastic one is not afraid of moisture, so it will not be covered with fungus and mold. There is no need to paint such a structure, since it has a white color from the moment of installation, which will not fade or peel off over time.

An important detail: It is also worth noting that a plastic structure will last longer than an iron or wooden one. Manufacturers claim that PVC products can last for about half a century.

Another advantage is that, unlike metal, PVC does not corrode. Also, due to the low weight, installation is quick and easy.

PVC pipe arch

Before starting the construction, you should think over everything to the smallest detail. Imagine what kind of arch you want to see on your garden plot. Then you should create drawings of the future structure. In order for the structure that you represented to flaunt on the site, it is necessary to correctly calculate the dimensions. Otherwise, the arch may turn out to be skewed.

Installation of an arch for roses from PVC pipes

Connection of individual elements

To work you will need:

  • water pipe with a diameter of 20 mm and a length of 12 m;
  • twelve pieces of tees.

The dimensions of the structure can be increased.

Technology:

  1. Cut the pipe. The result should be: two pieces of 1.5 m, four pieces of 80 cm and eight elements of 40 cm.Also, you need to make six pieces of jumpers of 30 cm.
  2. With the help of "iron" (soldering iron) jumpers are soldered with tees. Then they begin to weld all the remaining pipes.
  3. An arc is bent from the pipes. The ends are placed in the ground to a depth of 30 cm. The distance between the edges is 1.7 m. The height of the arch is 1.7 m. If desired, the distance can be increased or decreased.
  4. It remains only to plant roses and wait for them to bloom.

How to weld the elements?

A special welding machine is used for welding - a soldering iron. People call it "ironing". It can be purchased or borrowed. The soldering process should be taken seriously.

So, before you start soldering, you need to install the appropriate nozzles on the device (they must fit the diameter of the element). Then, with the help of the regulator, the thermal regime is set.

Note: The optimum heating temperature is 260 degrees. You can start working only when the "iron" is completely heated, it will take about fifteen minutes.

While the machine is warming up, you can prepare the parts for welding. For this, marks are placed on the elements for soldering. The parts are cut according to the marks.

Instructions:

  1. Cut the pipe along the marks.
  2. Select the correct size fittings.
  3. Degrease the working area.
  4. Parts are inserted into the attachments.
  5. After the elements are fully heated, they are removed from the nozzle and inserted into the fittings.
  6. The soldering points are not touched until they have completely cooled down.

How to make a garden arch

Who has not admired this decorative garden decoration at least once? Or did he not remember resting on a bench under an arch entwined with clematis or climbing roses? Did this arched structure, immersed in a green waterfall of wild grape branches, hung with pots of flowering annual begonias and petunias, leave anyone indifferent? All this beauty of the decorated territory of the site is given by one of the most expressive elements of landscape design - a garden arch. And the beauty, created with your own hands, is doubly pleasing.

How to make a garden arch yourself, without resorting to the help of professionals, in order to accent and decorate a recreation area - a patio or a garden? To cope with this task by building a "flowering corridor" and decorating it with plants is within the power of any summer resident or amateur gardener.

Span plus supports

Garden arch - vaulted structure, consists of vertical posts (supports) with arched or straight connection at the top. It has a symmetrical shape about the vertical axis and a through opening "gate" or repeating sections. Refers to small landscape forms. Has a variety of stylistic performance.

According to the material of manufacture, garden arches are:

  • Wooden - block, plank, trellis, wicker or combined.
  • Metal - from pipes, rods, profiles, metal portable trellises, including forged arches.
  • Plastic - from pipes, collapsible, sectional or lattice.
  • Stone - brick, buildings made of natural stone on a foundation.

Lightweight wooden structures

Wooden arch

Wooden arches have a presentable "classic" look, easy to paint and easy to manufacture. They are the most common type of arches with an acceptable price / quality ratio. The lumber for the arches is selected dried. The best drying is natural, within three years under a canopy. To make an arch with a corridor length of 3 m, you will need 6 beams (3 on each side). Rectangular section 75 × 75 mm or 100 × 100 mm, height 2.0–2.2 m. From one end to the length of the deepening, the bars are impregnated with an antiseptic (you can use used car oil, diesel fuel). If pillars are used as supports, a proven method is used - the butt of the logs is fired at the stake.

A garden drill or a shovel makes pits every 1.5 m, 0.5–0.6 m deep. The bars are installed in the pits, sprinkled with soil mixed with crushed stone, chipped bricks and compacted. The verticality of the installation is checked with a building level or a plumb line. The most reliable installation method is concreting. However, there is an opinion that concrete "attracts" moisture, from which the tree quickly deteriorates. Therefore, a three-layer fill should be preferred over a solid fill - the layers of cement screed should be alternated with layers of dense soil.

Of the 6-7 prepared slats of arbitrary cross-section, 4 are fixed horizontally between the beams - they fill the voids. Two or three slats will go at the end of the assembly to connect three arches of the vault-floor. The semicircular arcs themselves are made from a wooden bar (board) according to a cardboard template that repeats the profile of the future overlap from a chain of n-th number of fragments-parts that have a rounded shape.

The length of each is usually 40–80 cm and depends on the radius of the future arch and the width of the lumber used. A cardboard template is superimposed on a wooden blank, the contour of the fragment is outlined and the part is cut out with a jigsaw or a hand mill. The final assembly is carried out on a cardboard template - the first layer of cut fragments is laid end-to-end. Then, with a shift in half a part, the second layer is laid along it. Both layers are connected to each other with self-tapping screws, and the finished arcs are installed and attached to the upper parts of the supports.

Note! The disadvantage of wooden arches is a relatively short service life and low structural stability.

Wrought iron garden arch

Metal structures are strong and durable if you keep an eye on them. Full painting is done every 3-4 years. Touch-up in places where rust appears - annually. To make a garden arch, take two metal rods L = 6 m and Ø 10 mm. A template of the future opening is prepared on the ground - a contour is outlined with paint, and metal pins L = 20–30 cm are driven into it. The pins are bent around the rods to give them the finished shape of the arch - this is the skeleton of the future structure. The legs of the curved reinforcement are buried into the ground to a depth of 45–50 cm, and the dug holes are poured with concrete mortar. From rods of a meter length, rings are formed on the pipe bender - fillers of the space between the arcs and fasten them to the frame with soft wire.

Manufacturing scheme

In the absence of this bending tool, the space is filled with cross members - straight metal bars. The finished structure is covered with an anti-corrosion coating - a layer of primer and painted with enamel.

Lightness and high performance

PVC pipes

These are the qualities that plastic arches have - a modern type of landscape structures. They are made independently, plastic pipes of round or rectangular cross-section are used as the frame material - most often they use water pipes Ø 20 mm. The best material is considered to be high-quality PVC - it tolerates high and low temperatures better, so the owners do not clean such structures for the winter in the utility room. An alternative to manufacturing is buying ready-made structures of various styles - they are easy to assemble, and installation does not require special skills.

Note! The disadvantage of plastic structures is the limited choice of colors - in most cases they are white. However, the problem is easily solved by applying paint to the surface of the garden arch. A wide range of polyurethane paints and acrylic enamels are available specifically for plastics and PVC. With their help, you can easily change the color of the arch.

Multi-section

Wooden pergola and brick arch

A sequence of light arches, connected by beams in the form of a canopy, is called a pergola (from the Italian name pergula - canopy, extension). At the location, they can be independent, free-standing, or structures adjoined at one end to the wall of the room. Often, pergolas begin above the entrance group of a room or a terrace and serve to protect residents from the scorching rays of the sun, including barbecues, swimming pools or outbuildings. A pergola with a bench can serve as a local recreation area. Replaces the gazebo, having a simple manufacturing technology similar to ordinary arches.

Whether from the desire to save money, or from an overabundance of imagination, our people learned to benefit from those objects and things that a pedantic European would have long ago sent to the landfill. They build greenhouses and make palm trees, from - pretty garden figurines, and you can assemble any garden furniture from. Scraps of plastic pipes left over from repairs can also be used with benefit. They make the simplest decorative things, beds, chairs and even greenhouses - the scope for imagination is huge, and we have collected only the most interesting ideas for crafts from plastic pipes, which can serve as a guide to action or a source of inspiration.

Pipe connection methods

Plastic pipes are like parts of a constructor... By combining segments of different lengths and connecting them at different angles, you can get anything: a beginner will be delighted that he has built a simple hanger, and a professional will easily assemble a bunk bed. The main thing is to be able to correctly connect the pipes, and then it will be possible to do any thing necessary in the household.

Plastic pipes are a collective name, and are made from polymers. The greatest demand is for and. Sections of different lengths and diameters remain after the repair of engineering networks in an apartment or in a country house, and, as a rule, they rubbish in the closets, or rather, they were rubbish until enterprising folk craftsmen began to use them for other than their intended purpose. Plastic pipes are characterized by low weight, high strength and durability, they are easy to clean and safe.

Polypropylene pipes are connected using a special welding machine. It is expensive - it is more profitable to rent it, and it will take a little time to learn how to work with it. Compression fittings can be used to connect. In any case, the assembled product will be non-separable.

When it comes to crafts made from plastic pipes, usually refer to PVC pipes that can interconnect in the following ways:

  • socket connection with rubber seal... Socket pipes are supplied by manufacturers with a rubber seal located at the end, so that pipe joining is quick and easy, and the joint is tight. At the first stage, the socket of one pipe and the smooth part of the other are cleaned of dust and dirt. A chamfer is removed from the smooth end of the pipe (angle of 15 degrees, chamfering tools can be used) and a mark is applied indicating the depth to which the pipe will enter the socket. The sealing ring of the bell and the smooth part of the pipe are lubricated with a silicone compound and inserted one part into another, focusing on the mark. For plumbing and drainage, this is a good connection, and if you are assembling shelves or furniture, then it is not rigid enough. The main advantages: simplicity and the possibility of dismantling, therefore, such a connection is used for the construction of temporary structures and things;
  • adhesive bond... The ends of the pipes that need to be connected are chamfered (some simply process the surface with sandpaper), then marks are applied indicating the depth of the fitting. The ends of the pipes are degreased with methylene chloride, then the adhesive is applied with a brush to the pipe and inside the chamfer or socket. The pipe is inserted into the fitting (or socket), rotated ¼ turn for better distribution of the glue, then the elements can be pressed for 30-60 seconds. It is advisable to do all the work quickly. The remnants of the glue are immediately removed, and the compound is allowed to dry for several hours. The process is more laborious, but the joint is more reliable;
  • flange connection... Individual sections are connected using special fittings. Before performing work, the ends of the pipes are cleaned. A flange is put on the cut, then a rubber gasket onto which the flange is pushed. The elements are connected using bolts with a counter flange. Then the bolts are evenly tightened to achieve alignment of the flanges. The connection is reliable, the design is collapsible.

When the technology of connecting plastic pipes has been mastered, we can assume that almost any craft can be done. It is only important to draw a sketch or make a drawing in advance, and correctly calculate the length of all segments. You can build anything from such parts - we will list just some ideas for DIY plastic pipe crafts.

# 1. Organizer

The most unpretentious way to use the remains of plastic pipes. You can take pipes of small and medium diameter, even small lengths will fit. The first option is a mobile organizer. It is enough to cut segments of different heights and glue them together in any order or adhering to some scheme (for example, one higher segment in the center, the rest around it). Such a stand is suitable for storing office supplies near the desktop or for organizing all kinds of bolts and other fasteners in the workshop.

The second option is stationary. On one side, the pipe must be cut at an angle (the most popular option is 45 degrees, but less is possible if small items are stored). Then the cut elements are attached to the vertical surface with. You can mount the organizer elements on the wall or on a specially installed board.

# 2. Decorative frame or partition

Thin rings, which are easy to get when cutting plastic pipes, are a versatile material for creating decor. You can use pipes of different diameters - it's even more interesting. The plastic rings will make a wonderful frame. It is enough to draw a layout of the future product on paper in advance and glue individual rings right on it. They can turn out both a strict symmetrical pattern and something chaotic. If you then paint, then such a frame for a mirror or picture will hardly be called a simple craft - it will be a cool design thing.

A decorative partition can be obtained in a similar way. Glueing, of course, will take a little longer, but the effort is worth it. The partition will look very interesting, weigh a little and come in handy, for example, to delimit zones in the bathroom.

No. 3. Shoe shelf and wine bottle holder

There are a lot of options to organize the storage of clothes using plastic pipes, and in implementation all these crafts are quite simple.

No. 8. Shelving for living room, hallway, pantry

By connecting several pipe sections in the required order, you can get a practical and inexpensive rack that will fully satisfy your requirements in terms of size, shape and configuration. It can be either rather modest in size or a real giant. If the rack is located in the living room, then the pipes can be painted, and glass or plywood can be used as countertops. When it comes to or a workshop, there is no particular need for decoration.

No. 9. Football goal

If the suburban area has, then you can build a small football goal. It will only be necessary to make a few connections, but before that, of course, everything will have to be carefully calculated and measured. When the frame is ready, a net is put on it, and the gate is ready. When the kids grow up, the product can be disassembled, and the pipes can be reused to create other crafts.

In a similar way, you can make a small children's playhouse. We all once loved to build huts, get together there and play. It was especially cozy and mysterious. The frame for a house made of pipes is made elementary. Children will only have to throw a thick fabric over it and enjoy their own little castle.

No. 10. Playpen for children

There is nothing complicated in the construction of a playpen. However, the finished product in the store is not cheap. A budget alternative is available to those who have a decent amount of plastic pipes in stock, the time and the desire to learn how to connect individual pieces into a solid structure. You will need a lot of pipes to make, so home craftsmen advise you to just buy them in the store - it will still be cheaper than a ready-made arena, and the pipes can then be reused.

After a diagram of the arena has been created with an indication of its dimensions, pipes are cut. The vertical baffles are interconnected by short horizontal pipe sections at the top and bottom. However, variations are possible in the design of the arena.

No. 11. Chairs made of plastic pipes

Here you will need already confident skills in connecting individual pipe sections. Depending on your desire and degree of preparation, you can make both a simple children's stool and a comfortable chair for adults, or even an armchair. After the frame is ready, the seat is made. It can be woven from threads, rope, or use a thick fabric. Then you can put soft pillows on top. Having mastered the manufacturing technique, it will be possible to build almost all the furniture for a summer residence.

No. 12. Bunk bed

Yes, it is quite possible to assemble a frame from ordinary plastic pipes. Not only supporting elements are made of pipes, but also a staircase, and, of course, lamellas underneath. The level of difficulty here is increased, it is better to take on the work for those who have already tried their hand at making simpler crafts. Do not neglect drawing up a drawing and meticulous measurements.

A bed made in this way will become a real find for a small country house, because not everyone can afford to buy a ready-made bunk bed for a summer cottage, but it is somehow necessary to solve the problem of accommodation.

No. 13. Garden arch

How beautiful the arches, entwined with plants and flowers, look in the garden. The main difficulty in making a garden arch from plastic pipes is that individual segments will have to be bent. The easiest way to shape the pipes is with a gas burner. A separate area is heated to a state where the material will give in to deformation, then it is given the required shape. Someone decides not to bother and just connect several pipe sections at an angle. Then the upper part of the arch will resemble a trapezoid or polygon in shape. Horizontal elements are attached between the two arched vaults so that in the future the arch is covered with greenery as much as possible. Remember to securely fix the structure in the soil.

No. 14. Alcove

Constructing from plastic pipes is much easier than anyone might imagine. If you take long enough segments, then you don't even have to connect anything. Two pipes of the required length are arched and anchored into the ground. The distance between the elements of the future frame should be such that a dining table or other objects fit. It only remains, and everything is ready.

The design of the gazebo may be slightly different, resembling a house in shape. In this case, you will have to connect the individual elements.

No. 15. Carport

The design itself is simple, but difficulties may be associated with a decent size of the canopy, because it must be wide and high enough so that a car can easily hide under it. The frame is assembled with special care, attached to the ground and to the adjacent wall, if any, is covered with a thick awning fabric on top, which will protect the car from scorching sunlight and rain. Even the language does not turn to call this product a craft - this is already a small architectural form.

No. 16. Greenhouse

A small greenhouse is easy to do. You will need a few pipes, and there will not be very many connections. After the frame is assembled and fixed in the ground, it remains only to cover it with agrofiber. It will be possible to make such a greenhouse in just a couple of hours, and the benefits from it will be enormous.

No. 17. Greenhouse made of plastic pipes

It is, of course, more difficult to build a full-fledged one than a greenhouse. It will take a lot more material, and it will take a lot of time. The size of the greenhouse can be almost anything. The procedure is as follows:

From pipes, you can make a frame for a greenhouse of almost any shape, but the arched one remains the most preferable.

No. 18. Seedling containers

If in the country every square meter counts, then it's time to bring the idea of vertical gardens to life. Thus, it is convenient to grow greens and some berries. Scraps of plastic sewer pipes will make excellent containers if you cut holes in them in advance for seedlings and the outflow of excess water. It remains only to fill the soil containers and arrange the vertical beds one above the other. You can attach them again to a stand made of plastic pipes. Some connect the beds with ropes and hang them from the wall - there are many options.

Whichever style you choose to decorate your garden, a few beautiful arches with curly flowers will come in handy. Where it is better to arrange garden arches, what plants to choose for them - we will tell in the article. We have also prepared for you a selection of photos and a few simple step-by-step instructions on how to make arches from wood, metal and plastic pipes on your own.

Garden arches are called light structures, consisting of two vertical supports with a horizontal lintel - a vault - at the top. In landscape design, they are used as decorative architectural structures, bases for pergolas, awnings and as supports for climbing flowers and deciduous plants. The arch vault can be not only the traditional arcuate, but also triangular, rectangular, trapezoidal, pointed, asymmetrical.

They are distinguished by purpose:

  • decorative garden arches;
  • zoning arches;
  • entrance arches;
  • canopy arches;
  • arches-pergolas;
  • support arches for climbing plants.

By design features, garden arches are:

  • single;
  • double;
  • arcade;
  • voluminous.

Depending on the material of manufacture:

  • wooden;
  • metal;
  • plastic.

There are plenty of places on the suburban area that can be decorated with original garden arches and arched elements. Decorate your country gate, gate or porch with an exquisite wrought iron or wooden arch. Twisted with flowering or deciduous creepers, it will always look smart and welcoming.

Decorate lush arches with colorful and fragrant climbing plants in the front garden area or by the fountain.

Make a shady arched canopy with a comfortable bench and living walls in the patio area, or use arches with trellises as fences for your patio, barbecue area.

Create a stylish arcade (tunnel of several identical arches) along the central garden path or alley.

Decorate the roof and walls of an outdoor terrace or gazebo for family meals, receptions and relaxation with cozy and stylish arched vaults for flowers.

Other uses for arches in garden design:

  • make an impromptu entrance arch near an artificial lake or waterfall;
  • install a series of arched supports with fragrant flowers along the walls of a country house;
  • disguise an unsightly fence with vaulted supports with spectacular vines;

Rectangular wooden arch-pergola

What to prepare for work:

  • wooden beam - with a section of 10 x 10 cm, 5 x 4 cm;
  • boards - with a section of 7 x 4 cm;
  • slats - with a section of 4 x 2 cm; 4 x 1.5 cm;
  • wood screws, anchor screws;
  • pieces of asbestos-cement pipe - 4 pcs., 15-20 cm in diameter, 50 cm long;
  • metal bases for supports;
  • jigsaw or saw;
  • screwdriver or a set of screwdrivers;
  • sanding paper;
  • cement M400;
  • fine crushed stone;
  • river sand;
  • waterproof paint or yacht varnish.

How to make an arch:

1. The main wooden elements of the arch are made: from a beam of 10 x 10 cm - support pillars (you will need 4 pieces of 200 cm each); from a bar of 5 x 4 cm - transverse beams with curly edges (2 pcs. 180 cm each); from the board - longitudinal bars (2 pcs. 80 cm each), perpendicular bars (8 pcs. 120 cm each).

2. Prepare pieces of wooden slats for the arch grating: short - 20 pcs. 80 cm each, long - 8 pcs. 150 cm each, side - 4 pcs. 150 cm each.

3. Try on metal supports to the bottom of the pillars of the arch. If necessary, the timber is adjusted to size by sawing with a jigsaw.

4. All parts are ground, treated with moisture-resistant and antifungal impregnation, and dried. Cover with two layers of yacht varnish or waterproof paint and dry completely again. If desired, you can paint the arch after installation.

5. In the ground, using a drill or an ordinary shovel, they dig 4 holes - with a diameter of 20 cm, a depth of about 35 cm. They should form a rectangle 1.5 x 0.5 m. A mixture of crushed stone of fine fraction with river sand is poured into the bottom, moistened, after which is not tightly tamped.

6 Sections of asbestos-cement pipe are installed in the prepared pits. Pour the grooves of the pipes to the top with cement mortar. The surface is leveled. The work is continued after two days, after the complete solidification of the cement.

7. Anchor screws (you can also use ordinary screws with dowels) to the pipes protruding above the ground surface are attached metal supports for the pillars of the arch.

8. Wooden posts are fixed in supports, also with screws (with nuts). Check periodically the quality of the installation by the level. If there are no special metal supports for the columns of the arch, you can strengthen them directly in the ground, after wrapping them with roofing material. In this case, the bars for the posts are made 15-20 cm longer.

9. Two upper transverse beams with curly edges are attached to the posts with self-tapping screws. For strength, the pillars of the arch are fixed with diagonal and horizontal struts. Then the eight upper longitudinal bars are installed.

10. A decorative square lattice for climbing plants is made from wooden slats on the sides of the finished arch.

Round arch metal garden arch

What to prepare for work:

  • metal profile (25 x 25 or 30 x 30 mm);
  • steel rods (section ≈ 30 x 30 mm, length 30 cm);
  • mechanical or automatic pipe bender;
  • a circular saw for metal or a grinder;
  • welding machine;
  • fine gravel;
  • river sand;
  • cement M400-500;
  • fine sandpaper.

How to make a metal garden arch:

1. The metal profile is cleaned of dirt, polished with emery paper, degreased.

2. From the processed profile are made: 8-12 pieces of 45 cm long (arch crossbeams), 2 pieces of 6.3 m long (arch arch).

3. On each side on both arcs, measure 1 meter. Make notes. Using a pipe bender, without affecting the marked sections of the edges of the profile, two semicircular arch frames are made.

4. All side rails are welded to one of the metal arcs at regular intervals perpendicularly. Then this arch frame with crossbeams is turned over, after which it is joined to the second one and also carefully welded. As an additional decor, you can use ready-made forged items.

5. Upon completion of the work, steel rods are securely welded to the ends of both arcs of the finished arch.

6. Measure the distance between the support rods. Four holes are made in the ground for their installation, 45 cm deep, about 10-15 cm wide. Fill them 15 cm with sand with crushed stone, moisten, tamp. The arch is installed, having previously wrapped the rods with roofing material. Fill holes in the ground with cement mortar. Check the quality of the arch installation with a level. Fix the supports until the cement hardens with spacers.

Light country arch made of plastic pipes

What to prepare for work:

  • plastic pipe, section 20 mm;
  • construction knife or hacksaw;
  • plastic fittings;
  • a soldering iron with an iron attachment.

How to make a plastic garden arch:

1. From plastic pipes (the most convenient and durable polypropylene pipes) cut the elements of the arch. For the simplest single structure, you need: 2 sections for supports of 1.6 m each and 1 section for a horizontal lintel, 1.5 m long.For an arch with an arched vault, a lintel with a length of 2.4 m is required.

2. Prepared plastic parts, alternately heating on the "iron", are tightly connected with fittings. You can additionally fix the joints of the arch with any quick-setting glue.

3. The finished arch made of plastic pipes is buried in the ground, well tamped. If desired, the supports can be reinforced with cement, but given the lightness of the structure, this is not necessary.

A summer cottage is not just a resting place. It is a space where you can bring your ideas to life. The garden arch will make your area more majestic.

Materials and requirements

The arch can be of any size and shape. It is located both at the entrance to the site and in a secluded place in the garden. According to the material from which the arches are made, they can be divided into:

  • wooden;
  • metal;
  • plastic;
  • stone.
A decorative arch can be an excellent decoration for any garden.

A garden arch made of wood will be an excellent decoration for any site. As a frame of such a structure, it will be necessary to take an edged, profiled or rounded beam of the section that can become a bearing support for the entire structure. In this case, it is necessary to take into account the possibility of using the arch as a support for climbing plants. Everyone chooses the section, profile of the timber for the frame racks independently, depending on the complexity of the structure. Partitions of such a structure can be made of decorative wooden trellises or vines.

Considering that the arch will be in open space all the time, it will be necessary to process the timber in such a way that its surface is resistant to the influence of precipitation. Usually they are opened with varnish or painted periodically. The ability of wooden arches to be exposed to the environment is a big disadvantage. All other characteristics of such wooden structures speak of their advantages: strength, ease of construction and installation, environmental friendliness, aesthetics.

Metal arches will outwardly differ from wooden ones in fragility and subtlety of shape. Any profile, bar or reinforcement can be used as load-bearing supports. The partitions between the supports are often made of wrought iron, which gives the structure an airy and lightness. Such structures are not affected by precipitation. The advantages of metal arches include strength, durability, reliability, the ability to use art forms. The main disadvantage of this design will be the cost of materials.

Metal arches are reliable, durable, but not cheap

It is difficult to come up with a material that is cheaper and lighter than plastic. The plastic arch will look avant-garde and emphasize your thinking outside the box. It would seem that you cannot think of a better material! Such pipes do not require painting and are absolutely indifferent to moisture. But there is one big drawback to plastic pipes - they are flexible. Under heavy load, especially if the plants climbing along the arch grow strongly, the arch can bend in some places.

Arches made of rubble or decorative stone will add monumentality to your site. Such buildings are usually positioned as a separate piece of art located on your territory. In the manufacture of such arches are very laborious, and the material used is very expensive if the relief stone of your site is not used.

From this video you will learn how to make a garden arch with your own hands.

DIY construction

At first glance, the construction of an arch can seem complicated and very time consuming.

In fact, for any person in the construction of such a building there is nothing difficult. To do this, you must have:

  • excavation drill and shovel;
  • hacksaw;
  • plumb line and building corner;
  • hammer and nails;
  • screwdriver or screwdriver.

To make an arch from metal, you will need a welding machine, and for plastic, from polypropylene pipes, a soldering iron. Now you need to choose a place for the building and start building it.

The arch in the garden can be easily made by yourself, you need several tools

Wood product

To make an arch from wood, you will need to perform the following work:

  1. We will mark the site in order to dig holes for the racks of our frame. If arcs are the arch of your structure, then to mark the width of the arch you need to know their size.
  2. Use a drill or a shovel to dig these holes.
  3. We will treat the lower part of the racks with an antiseptic or machine oil. We will install the frame racks, check their verticality.
  4. We will concrete or use a three-layer fill for the rigidity of the fastening of the racks.
  5. We connect the racks with longitudinal strips.
  6. We will install and fix the transverse arcs or other structure of the upper frame.
  7. We will round the longitudinal sides of the arch with decorative grilles or other material.

The building is ready.

Metal analog

The fundamental difference between the construction of an iron arch from a wooden one is the need to install all racks with arcs before you install it in a prepared place. But this is possible only when you can lift the finished structure yourself or with the help of a crane or a winch. If the metal arch is large, then you will have to follow the same sequence as when assembling a wooden structure. If you assemble the structure yourself, then it can be simplified as much as possible. Bend several reinforcement rods in the same way and connect them together with simple curly elements using simple fasteners. Install the resulting frame in pre-dug holes and check its verticality. Concrete the frame racks, and the arch is ready!

The metal frame of the arch should be concreted into the ground

PVC pipes

Before you start building an arch from plastic pipes, you need to understand a wide variety of plastic products that have found their application in laying communications:

  1. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipes are used for laying indoor and outdoor sewerage networks. These pipes are usually straight and do not bend, and have soft rubber connections.
  2. Polyethylene pipes (PE) are used to supply water in external networks, wells. Have rigid fittings (tees and transitions).
  3. Polypropylene pipes (PP-R) are mainly used for laying internal networks of cold and hot water supply, as well as heating. The connections of these pipes are made by soldering using a special soldering iron.

In addition to the listed plastic pipes, there are others: metal-plastic, vinyl, etc. We will not dwell on these profiles because of their high cost.

The PVC arch is light and flexible

The sequence of installation of an arch made of plastic pipes, due to their lightness and flexibility, can be the same as when constructing a wooden structure. Or you can first collect it all, and then install it.

Using the different diameters of the offered assortment of pipes, it must be remembered that the struts of our frame must bear the weight of the entire structure. So, for example, from PVC pipes, the frame can be made with a diameter of 100 mm, and partitions - 50 mm. Only at the place of installation of partitions will it be necessary to install tees or crosses of appropriate sizes. It will be impossible to make an arcuate structure from these pipes, but only a U-shaped or similar one.

Polyethylene and polypropylene profiles can be bent to obtain the desired diameter of the frame arch, which can be made in one piece together with the frame post. When connecting PP-R pipes with a special soldering iron, it is very important to maintain alignment. If this is not done, then the design may lose its visual appeal.

Other solutions

If there are places near your summer cottage where you can find a wild stone, then building an arch from it will be a very interesting solution. For such a construction, there is no need to dig holes. It is important that the lower stones of the foundations are slightly deepened and resistant to stress. To complete the work, you only need cement, sand, a tool for carrying out concrete work.

Such an arch must be erected by carefully choosing each subsequent stone so that it can be stably fixed and has several planes or points of support. When laying the vault, it is possible to use temporary supports. After the solution has hardened, these props can be removed.

An interesting version of an arch made of wild stone, reinforced with mortar

We considered the possibility of building an arch from popular materials. But if you have ideas for the construction of such a structure from other raw materials, then using the above-described work procedure, it will not be difficult to do this. Construction waste can be used as a material, and they can be combined. For example, the racks of the frame are made of bricks, the arch is made of timber, and the partitions between the racks are made of wire. An arch made of natural materials at hand, such as hazel or vines, will look very beautiful.

Plants for decoration

When your arch is ready, it remains to wait for spring to plant the desired type of climbing plant along the frame racks. A variety of types of such design will allow the arch to turn green in the summer, become more attractive. Your choice may be based on the following plants:

  • climbing rose;
  • grape;
  • Chinese lemongrass;
  • hop;
  • honeysuckle;
  • sweet pea;
  • clematis.

This is not the whole list of climbing plants. Having planted any of them, you will see how your structure will be transformed. On hot summer days, the arch will create the desired shade.

To make your building visible in the evening and at night, it can be illuminated. At the same time, use freestanding street lamps nearby or install the lamps directly on the arch posts. Now your building will be attractive not only during the day, but also at night.
