Houses like England: design options in the English style. English houses: photo, project

Clients who are interested in projects of houses in the English style made of bricks and more modern materials - from foam blocks or aerated concrete - often turn to us. During the discussion, it turns out that they mean completely different buildings, and there is an objective reason for this. The architecture of England took shape over several centuries, and there are three periods: XV-XVI, XVII-XVIII, XVIII-XIX centuries.

Sublays of English architecture

  • acute-angled multi-pitched roofs covered with red tiles;
  • large brick pipes;
  • high gables with small dormer windows;
  • arched windows with frequent deflections, stone cladding of the basement.

House designs in the English Tudor style: No. 33-03 (one-story townhouse), No. 51-34 (classic cottage with an attic).

  • rectangular shape, symmetry;
  • walls without decoration;
  • simple roofs of medium height;
  • doors framed by a portal.

Typical examples in the catalog: No. 58-66 or more modern interpretation No. 32-11.

  • decorating with facing stone, using the half-timbered technique or siding;
  • the roofs take on a complex shape, complemented by towers;
  • distribution of bay windows, verandas, terraces;
  • high pediment above the main entrance.

An example is a photo of a 2-storey building in the English Victorian style No. 34-67, or a project with a terrace (No. 40-56).

Composition of project documentation

The company "Projects of Cottages" has been developing ready-made solutions for 15 years. Each finished project contains a complete package of documentation required for construction.

  1. Detailed description of all structures: foundation, walls, floors.
  2. Floor plans with decoding for each room: area, purpose.
  3. Specification of building materials, options for their replacement are indicated.

The project includes a set of working drawings: sections, masonry plans, floor explication, a scheme for filling window openings. Some typical solutions include engineering communications projects. In most cases, water supply and electrification systems are developed individually. For example, when a customer needs a house with a second light (No. 35-12, 375 m 2). Additionally, an architectural passport of the object is prepared.

The classic English style has been attracting the attention of designers and ordinary people for more than one year. It combines functionality and rigor, but at the same time it shows well the character of its owner. Houses in this style are a combination of the best features of Victorian and Georgian construction. They are distinguished by the external roughness of the facade, which is not tiled with anything, leaving bare brick, very low large windows and a high roof covered with red tiles.

Many companies offer house designs in the English style for every taste, providing photos of the finished house and drawings. The Liverpool project is a luxurious two-story cottage made of aerated concrete blocks with brick cladding and a terrace at the back of the house.

The total area of the house is 263 square meters, which is quite enough for a comfortable living for a large family. The height of the narrow windows is balanced by a small two-tiered roof covered with dark metal tiles, which creates an effect of both lightness and stability. The foundation is made of a grillage and a slab and almost does not protrude above the ground, which creates an earthy effect, leveled by two floors and large windows through which enough light penetrates into the premises at any time of the year.

From the porch, the guest enters the hallway, there is a dressing room on the right, and a large hall in front. In the right part of the hall there are entrances to the bathroom and to the kitchen, to the left is the door to the study, and directly there is a spacious living room with access to the terrace.

Climbing the stairs to the second floor, you can find there four spacious bedrooms and three bathrooms, the entrances to which are located in the bedrooms, as well as a small cozy balcony.

The finished project "Grace" resembles medieval cathedrals in its height and narrowness, but at the same time it retains the features of the classic English style.

Despite the fact that outwardly it looks small, the house has two floors and an attic, where a sufficient number of rooms are located. The total area of the house is 160 square meters. The building is constructed from gas or foam blocks and faced with red-brown ceramic bricks. The high, pointed roof, covered with dark metal tiles, gives the impression of an aspiration upward.

On the first floor there is a large hall, to the left of it there is a toilet and an entrance to the furnace, to the right is a storage room and a staircase to the second floor. Opposite the entrance to the house there is a living room combined with a dining room and a kitchen.

On the second floor there are three cozy bedrooms, one of which opens onto a dressing room and a bathroom. In addition, there is a small compact pantry.

On the attic floor, just opposite the stairs, there is a large dressing room, the doors of two bedrooms and a bathroom open onto the hall.

The Gustave project looks compact and can serve as a country house, but in fact, its area is an impressive 254.5 square meters.

Like previous projects, "Gustave" is built of aerated concrete blocks, and the roof is covered with metal tiles. The severity of the building's geometric forms is softened by a large semicircular window on the second floor, under which there is a large canopy over the front door. To the left of the house is a large garage with automatic gates.

The house is very spacious inside, on the ground floor there is a living room combined with a dining room, a kitchen, an entrance hall, a laundry room and a large hall. There is a large glazed veranda behind the house, and from the garage you can get to the technical room located inside the building.

On the second floor there are three large bedrooms and another living room, as well as two bathrooms with bathtubs. This house does not have as many sleeping places as in the previous ones, but all the other rooms are much larger and more spacious.

The Edinburgh project looks like a classic English house from photographs from Foggy Albion, but at the same time it will perfectly fit into the reality of our country.

Beautiful brick in dark brown tones cladding the walls of the house, the roof pleases the eye with a beautiful and deep dark color. The windows are large and square, and there is sufficient lighting inside the premises. Behind the house there is a large terrace where you can put wicker chairs and tables and enjoy summer evenings. In general, the cottage is very spacious, it has two floors, and the area is as much as 237 square meters.

Entering the house, you can get first into the hallway, then into the large hall. To the left of the front door is a study, with a living room adjoining it. To the right of the entrance is a dressing room and a bathroom. There is a large kitchen in front, combined with a dining room.

On the second floor there are three large bedrooms and several bathrooms plus a dressing room.

10. Living room with fireplace and aquarium

All photos In the photo: English style in the interior of the living room with an aquarium

And this living room with a fireplace in a laconic white portal and a pair of classic green armchairs could be an example of pure English style, if not for a bright modern aquarium. Thanks to the appearance in the interior of this "piece" of the underwater world, as well as the hearth, the room even more resembled an area for relaxation. But it is precisely this effect that the English style always achieves, for which it is important to create the most cozy and comfortable environment.

English style in the interior of the study and armory

A bias towards the English style is made by many cabinet owners. Respectable furniture with a "coach" tie, massive built-in wardrobes with bookshelves and pilasters in decoration, wall panels made of wood - it would seem that these attributes of the style trend that appeared in Great Britain were simply created for the arrangement of office spaces. It seems to us that only a serious and self-confident person will choose the English style for the interior of the office. That is why such office spaces always look very respectable and inspire confidence in their owners.

11. Cabinet-library in coffee and chocolate colors

All photos In the photo: Cabinet design in chocolate-coffee shades with a library

An English-style cabinet always serves not only as a workspace, but also as a library. Of course, not every room will allow you to equip entire galleries for book shelves, as it was in the film "My Fair Lady". But at least for one bookcase there is always a place in the office.

12. English study in the attic of a country house

All photos In the photo: English style in the interior of the office in the attic

The design of the English study in the attic appeals to classic solutions. So, a chair with "ears" and armrests may well resemble the models named after Voltaire. The classicism of the composition is also emphasized by the pilasters used in the decoration of the bookcase.

13. Armory room with wood trim

All photos In the photo: Armory room with wood trim

Wood is considered the ideal finishing material for an English-style interior. And the presented design of the armory room, in the decoration of which polished wooden textures dominate, serves as the best confirmation of this. The English classics, with their respectability and sense of their own worth, are expressed primarily in the wood paneling. And the curtains and sconces assembled in a somewhat theatrical manner seem to be so out of history that, thanks to them, it is difficult to say exactly which century the composition belongs to.

14. Black and white monochrome in the interior of the kitchen-dining room

All photos In the photo: English style in the interior of a monochrome kitchen

The design of the kitchen-dining room in the English style is usually built on a monochrome basis. It can be black and white monochrome, as in the photo above, or beige. You can diversify the monochrome palette by using natural stone with its unique pattern in the decoration.

15. Shades of coffee with milk in the interior of the kitchen

All photos In the photo: English style in the interior of the kitchen in shades of coffee with milk

The shades of coffee with milk in the kitchen interior in the photo evoke pleasant associations with an invigorating aromatic drink and desserts. This palette is unobtrusive and versatile: it is combined with most other colors and coloristic accents.

16. Motives of country in the interior of English cuisine

All photos In the photo: English style in the interior of the kitchen with country motives

The English style in the interior of the kitchen in a country house has the charm of a quiet village, lost among the picturesque hills of one of the counties of Great Britain. This effect is largely due to the country elements used in the project in the form of masonry and floral curtains. As a result, we get an interior that is close in its atmosphere to cozy English houses from the time of the action of the novel "Tess of the D'Urberville".

17. Kitchen-dining room with an island

All photos In the photo: English style in the interior of the kitchen with an island

English kitchens are no less versatile than minimalist interiors, in which entire storage systems can be hidden behind laconic cabinet facades. An island is one of the most affordable and obvious ways to improve the functionality of a kitchen space. In the example shown in the photo, the island structure serves as a work surface and storage system. But many islands are also used today as bar counters and zoning elements.

18. Stone decoration in the interior of the kitchen

All photos In the photo: English style in the interior of the kitchen with stone trim

Stone decoration adds a little brutality to the interior of the English-style kitchen. Thanks to her, the space also acquires a certain historicity, transferring us to the Victorian era. Deliberately rough stone textures look especially impressive in combination with classic furniture made of noble wood species.

19. Wine cellar with stained glass ceiling

All photos In the photo: English style in the interior of the wine cellar in the house

Some English-style country houses have wine cellars that can store both Burgundy and cider and ale. Of course, wood is considered the ideal material for finishing such premises. You can also add masonry to the interior and highlight the suspended ceiling with stained glass. A stained-glass insert on the ceiling will help to give the space an artistic sound.

English style in the interior of the bedroom

English bedrooms may not be as ornate as French sleeping rooms, with their canopies and thin carved furniture legs. But they are very cozy and comfortable. If in French bedrooms there is a desire to please, then English lounges are more intimate, they are guided not by strangers, but by their owners.

20. Bedroom in light colors

All photos In the photo: English style in the interior of the bedroom in light colors

The bedroom interior in the English style is almost monochrome. Wood panels are used in the decoration of the space. Inserts framed by moldings with floral wallpaper help to diversify the composition, the unobtrusive bluish pattern of which brings a little spring colors to the room. A built-in mirror cabinet helps to visually increase the space.

21. Wood carving in the decoration of the bedroom

All photos In the photo: English style in the interior of the bedroom with woodcarving in decoration

The English style in the interior of the bedroom involves the use of a large number of wooden textures. Thanks to the wood, the space looks more comfortable. One bedroom can be combined with polished and matte wood textures. And the artistic value of the composition can be increased by using elements made using the woodcarving technique. In the design of the bedroom in the photo with light green wallpaper with a pattern close to damask, carved wood inserts are used in the design of the headboard area.

22. Wooden furniture and pilasters in the interior of the bedroom

All photos In the photo: English style in the interior of the bedroom with wooden furniture

The English-style bedrooms have wooden furnishings. But it is important to understand that this style direction does not accept fakes. Therefore, the furniture here must be made of solid wood. In the presented example of the interior of an English bedroom, a wooden bed, a coffee table and bedside tables serve as a complement to the unusual wall decoration with pilasters and carvings.

23. Textured finishing of the headboard in the bedroom

All photos In the photo: English style in the interior of the bedroom in light shades

Bedrooms in the English style can be decorated with art deco elements. For example, in the decoration of the headboard area, you can often see upholstery with a "carriage" tie. In the presented example, such a textile textured panel with a diamond layout is "supported" by a corresponding white back with "ears".

24. English bedroom with fireplace

All photos In the photo: English style in the interior of a bedroom with a fireplace

In the interiors of English bedrooms, a fireplace can be seen as often as in living rooms. Both classic fireplace portals with stucco molding and more laconic modern fireplaces powered by biofuel are used here.

25. Classic armchairs for the English bedroom

All photos In the photo: English style in the interior of the bedroom with classic armchairs

As we mentioned above, the English style of the interior "seeks" to fill all the voids. Therefore, there is often at least one cozy armchair by the fireplace. In the presented example of the interior in the area of the hearth, there is a whole area for rest and reading. Designer Angelica Prudnikova decided to furnish the fireplace area with a pair of classic armchairs with a screed in the finish and mother-of-pearl poufs that can serve as footrests or coffee tables.

26. Bedroom with truffle accents

All photos In the photo: English style in the interior of the bedroom with truffle accents

Truffle accents in the form of a pouf with a "coach" tie and upholstery in the headboard are perfectly combined with the mother-of-pearl palette chosen as the main range. Such a coloristic solution reminds of desserts with the addition of cocoa, as well as aromatic glaze with chocolate ice cream.

English style in the interior of the nursery and other rooms

The English style in the interior of the children's room usually exploits typical British themes. As a rule, these are motives of travel (after all, England has always been a sea power and a major colonizer). When decorating bathrooms in English style, the designers strive to create a very cozy composition. Therefore, textiles are often seen here. As for the hallways, in their design, the English style remains true to its principle of equipping the space with objects as much as possible. Therefore, in the halls, we can often observe islands for relaxation with armchairs, poufs or soft benches.

27. Children's room for twins

All photos In the photo: English style in the interior of the nursery for twins

The English style in the interior of the children's room for twins manifested itself in the choice of theme. Airplane mock-ups, posters depicting details of aviation technology bring to the premises and motives of travel and, at the same time, remind of the exploits of the Royal Air Force of Great Britain. As a coloristic basis in the presented example, the shades of Bondi Beach were chosen, the dark turquoise depth of which is set off by sky-blue textiles.

28. Bathroom with partitions and columns

All photos In the photo: English style in the interior of a bathroom with columns

With the help of partitions, the bathroom space with mosaic tiles in the flooring is conventionally divided into three areas. In the center of the room is a bathtub with a window fitted with a white printed curtain. Our designers have decorated the partitions with columns of dark chocolate shade.

29. Black and white hall with a facet

All photos In the photo: English style in the interior of the hall in the apartment

The interior of the hall in the English style in the photo is “woven” from details: statuettes in the shape of a white horse, a decorative lantern, a panel with butterflies. And the beveled mirrors in the finish, "supported" by the diagonal arrangement of the stained glass insert on the ceiling, add the compositions of the glamorous shine characteristic of Art Deco.

England itself is characterized by small in size, but at the same time cozy cottages and townhouses. Therefore, the English style can be used both in the interiors of huge country houses and in small apartments. This style direction is very close to Russians, since it also has something of the Soviet Empire style, for which many are still nostalgic. At the same time, the English style always reminds us of our favorite characters from childhood from books and films about good old England.

For more than two hundred years, the English style in architecture (and not only in it) has been considered an example of impeccable taste. The reason for this is the reputation of Great Britain, the mistress of the seas and the trendsetter. All this time, English architecture did not remain aloof from the processes taking place in the world, changing along with them.

In modern construction, the English style of city buildings and country cottages is still highly valued. People are attracted not only by the external image that can demonstrate the taste and preferences of the owner, but also by the reliability and durability of the building.

House in the English style - as they say, beauty in English

House in the English style: evolution

Just an English-style house, like a spherical horse in a vacuum, does not exist in nature. Underneath this collective image (brick walls, lawn and a little fog) hides a rather motley collection of buildings that are quite different from each other. All the variety of British architectural styles, whose heritage is used in modern private construction, can conveniently be divided into three large groups, according to the time of the reign of kings and queens.

Tudor architecture

Tudor time - the fall of the Middle Ages and the beginning of the Renaissance, 15-16 centuries. The era contained many important events, from the beginning of the colonization of America, to the defeat of the Spanish Invincible Armada. The architecture at this time, still under the influence of medieval canons, began to change; Gothic castles are losing their defensive functions. Craftsmen from Italy and the Netherlands are invited to the country, and the houses of the nobility acquire new features:

House gets asymmetric layout... The chimney system is being improved, huge fireplaces are being installed.

Tudor style with a modern twist

Appear large glazed windows(glass cost fabulous money and windows served as a measure of wealth).

Houses are supplied galleries and balustrades, the entrance is formed by an arch.

The interior is decorated carved wood paneling, gilding, tapestries, furniture from exotic tree species.

The garden acquires geometric shapes appear fountains.

Most of the houses of ordinary people were half-timbered and looked like picturesque scenery for the fairy tale of Cinderella. Today, such buildings are called the old British style, by the characteristic features of which they mean:

Plaster and half-timbered on the main facade.

Wall cladding(or just the basement) with stone and brick.

High roof with several chimneys and high gables.

A dedicated brick pipe often drawn along the façade.

    Pronounced bay window.

House project in the English style - an example of a classic Georgian mansion

Georgian architecture

A style that took shape in the 17th century and finally took shape in the 18th century. Today it is considered a classic of English architecture, the same austere English style admired by the whole world. He was greatly influenced by Greek and Roman traditions; aristocrats were also fond of the Far Eastern and medieval forms of architecture (chinoiserie and neo-Gothic).

In the 18th century, industry developed rapidly, cities began to be massively rebuilt. Modern designs of houses in the English style of brick use many developments of that era:

    Symmetrical rectangular layout at home.

Facade material - Red brick(in the USA and Canada, bricks can be multi-colored), less often a stone.

Conciseness... The house is adorned with white-plastered décor in the form of arches and pilasters (vertical projections of the wall that represent a column).

Georgian style in all its glory - strict symmetry and the main entrance

Door, which is the main accent, is painted in different colors. A porch, a canopy imitating a pediment and a transom (window above the door) give the entrance group a ceremonial look.

Roof has a simple pitched design with a gable above the entrance. Traditional roofing - natural tiles. The pipes (almost always two) are arranged symmetrically.

For Georgian buildings, the characteristic is attic floor.

Victorian architecture

Queen Victoria's reign, from 1837 to 1901, is considered the pinnacle of British power. Large-scale wars did not happen, industry and colonial expansion continued to develop, architecture received a new impetus for development. The newly emerged middle class (bourgeoisie) strives to surround itself with luxury and emphasize status.

Cozy veranda and bay windows are hallmarks of a Victorian home

Private houses are no longer strict and laconic. Embellishment and eclecticism (mixing styles) are in vogue; buildings acquire new features:

Free (asymmetrical), convenient layout buildings and a complex, with a broken shape, roof (imitation of the Gothic).

Lots of decorative elements on the facade... The mansions were decorated with a large number of windows, balconies, turrets (some of which were functional), arches, pediments and bay windows. Often a porch was set up and almost always a terrace.

Building material - beloved by the British brick(of different textures and colors), but there are also many wooden dwellings decorated with openwork trim. Facing stone, shingles and wood siding are used.

Combinations of juicy, rich and pastel colors.

The layout of English Victorian houses has features:

Room sizes... A must have a spacious living room, dining room and kitchen. Bedrooms and bathrooms can be very small.

Layout... It is unusual, but thoughtful and functional; old buildings have partitions at an angle of 45 °.

Arrangement... The house always has a fireplace, many storage rooms and built-in wardrobes, but there are practically no corridors.

Modern project of a brick house in the English style

The English style, like the classic, is associated with refined taste and all-encompassing elegance. Everything related to the project - architectural details, the interior or the surrounding landscape, should look sophisticatedly strict (if it is Georgian style) or exquisitely luxurious (if it is Victorian style).

Modern Georgian manor house

Modern construction of houses in the English style on a turnkey basis uses the principles of British housing construction and includes the following technical features:

Foundation... Historically, classic buildings in foggy Albion have low foundations. The floors of the first floor are very low, there is no basement or half-floor. In the conditions of the European part of Russia, a low foundation will require additional insulation and reinforced waterproofing.

Layout... Modern Georgian homes are characterized by straight geometry, symmetrical façades and a large number of evenly spaced windows.

Decor... Minimum. If the house is made of blocks, it is finished with clinker tiles and arch concrete (architectural concrete, artificial granite).

Main entrance... Low position. A door with panels is decorated with pilasters, a porch or a portico.

Entrance lobby - home decoration

Roof... The hallmark of a truly English cottage is a medium or high roof with a slight offset of the slopes and symmetrical pipes; often with difficult terrain and dormer windows. The traditional roofing material is natural, red ceramic tiles. Today's interpretation of the style allows the use of metal tiles or soft roofs of the color you like.

Expanding the style... Today, two-story houses in the English style with a second light are popular.

Peculiarities... It so happened that in modern projects, two styles are often mixed. If the exterior is executed in a restrained Georgian style, then the luxury and sophistication of Victorian is chosen for the interior. Such eclecticism benefits the building without diminishing its aristocracy.

Attributes... A flower garden or at least a lawn is necessarily broken near a real English cottage.

Brick in building a house according to the English canons

The classics of British architecture, a brick country house, perfectly suits the changeable Russian climate. The traditional solution allows you to get a solid warm structure that reliably protects from weather vagaries and external sounds. The features of the facade in the English style are:

The use of red bricks... Reds on the island are not only buses and telephone booths. This wonderful building material came to Britain thanks to the Romans, but it was widely used after the fire in London in 1666. Today, a red brick cottage looks stylish and cozy at the same time.

Lack of cladding... It is customary to leave brickwork, which is beautiful in itself, without cladding. Sometimes they use decorative plaster, stone panels or facade bricks.

Finishing... The contrast of brick walls and white trim gives the building a dramatic and elegant look. Edging is made of white stone along the perimeter of the building, columns and bas-reliefs. Rust stones, friezes, balustrades and cornices are covered with white paint.

House project in the English style of bricks, preserving the traditional canons

Two-storey layout of houses in the English style

The British considered the most practical solution to be a two-story building; the principles of its internal planning continue to be used in modern construction. The ground floor houses:

Living room... The main room is not only on the floor, but throughout the house. The classic living room is made large and is often combined with the dining room. There is a fireplace, guests gather and traditional tea parties are held. In modern projects, not only a large number of windows are provided, but also bay windows with panoramic glazing.

Kitchen... They try to place it separately from the living room. It can be adjacent to the dining room, but should not be visible from the guest area. Traditionally, a back door is arranged in the kitchen.

Library, tea room and study... These rooms are made separate or combined.

Video description

About the review of an English-style country house in the following video:

The second floor houses:

Bedrooms... Host and guest rooms are planned. All rooms are small in size, but the master bedroom has a private bathroom and dressing room.

Attic... Optional element. In a small house, a utility room is arranged here for storing things or drying clothes. In the large mansion, the attic is transformed into an original living room.

Varieties of modern projects

Customers love English-style homes that seamlessly blend traditional architectural features with comfort requirements. Typical and individual projects include elements that are atypical for classical buildings, but necessary for modern life:

Garage... Historically, the garage was considered an outbuilding and therefore was located separately from the house, in the backyard. Modern homes are designed with a garage adjacent to the main building, and a family with two to three cars finds this extremely convenient. The garage extension and housing are made in the same style, and the impression of the house does not suffer.

The realities of modern life require change

Terrace... A Victorian terrace is a standard architectural feature. Modern projects (at the request of the customer) are supplied with a spacious covered area for recreation, above which a balcony equal in size is additionally arranged. The whole structure is located at the side facade and does not violate the decor of the central part. Such an English-style house project with a terrace allows you to equip an excellent outdoor recreation area.

Style change... In houses created in the English style, French (panoramic, floor-to-ceiling) windows look impressive and are often designed. They are installed both on the first (in rooms with access to the terrace) and on the second floor.

French windows complement the English look

Landscape design

A cottage in the English style is not just an expensive brick building with predetermined proportions and suitable decor. A perfect British country home, like a jewel, is unthinkable without a matching frame. Her role is suitable not only for a luxurious garden with a hedge, but also for a perfectly manicured flowering front garden or a lawn with a lush flower bed. In English, walls braided with ivy will look stylish.

How to equip a house in the English style: interior design

The tastes of the British in the design of the house took a long time to form, but changed slowly and reluctantly. The style of furnishings and interiors was constantly influenced by neighboring countries and overseas colonies; the result was what is today called a traditional English interior.

Conservatism of British taste

The English interior is characterized not only by rationality and a sense of proportion, but also by respect for traditions, which many call conservatism. The modern interior design is dominated by two styles - Georgian and Victorian. The owner can decorate the house in the same style or choose eclecticism and give the rooms a different look. Several components are important attributes of the English interior:

Image... The style of an English house can combine several styles, from Gothic and French to colonial. Traditional housing can be safely decorated with items brought from India and Southeast Asia - furniture, carpets, knickknacks, wrought iron chests and lacquered tables. The four-poster bed, a gift from the East, does not contradict the style (although it is not required).

The charm of an English interior - an emphasis on detail

Walls... The throwing feature of the walls is the division in height into two or three parts with its own decoration. The lower level is often decorated with wood panels, the upper level - with textured wallpaper with classic stripes, heraldic or floral ornaments. The walls are decorated with watercolors, embroidered paintings, images of animals.

Floor... Parquet flooring in natural shades will be optimal. The bathroom traditionally looks like a floor with alternating white and black tiles.

Color spectrum... Restrained and natural palette, nothing vulgar, bright, flashy. Shades of brown, green, gray prevail. Muted reds and blues, beige, terracotta and ivory are welcome.

Style is based on choice of colors and materials

Furniture... Outstanding furniture craftsmen have worked in Britain, creating an enduring fashion for English furniture. It was here that slotted backs of chairs and armchairs, tables and sofas of dark wood, rectangular display cabinets intended to demonstrate rarities appeared. Today, walnut, yew, oak, cherry and mahogany are used to decorate furniture.

Fireplace... The symbol of the English house and English conservatism. The fireplace is faced with natural stone (marble or limestone), candlesticks, caskets, and clocks are placed on the mantelpiece.

Fabrics... Preference is given to natural fabrics of restrained shades, upholstery with fine stripes or floral patterns. Tablecloths, lampshades and pillows are matched to the colors prevailing in the room. A classic detail of the English style is the double-layer silk curtains.

Accessories... In the hallway, guests are greeted by a stand for umbrellas and walking sticks. The dining room is decorated with a sideboard and a round Victorian table. Comfort is created by a variety of floor lamps, table lamps, chandeliers and sconces.

Country house - traditional design and modern understanding of comfort

Turnkey brick houses in the English style

English-style mansions remain a popular housing option due to several properties:

Reliability... Such a house is practical, for many decades it does not require restoration or repair, while retaining its original respectable appearance.

Aesthetics... The house in the English style is devoid of pretentiousness and museum splendor, which are distinguished by some classic houses.

Solidity... The English cottage reflects the taste of its owners.

Domestic construction companies engaged in the construction of such housing should be aware of the style features and reproduce them taking into account local conditions. Consider:

Brick weight... Due to the heavy weight of the brick walls, the house will need an impressive foundation and masonry work (using cement) will be limited during the winter.

Project of an English house with a bay window (ceramic block, brick trim)

Low plinth... It is beautiful when the door leads directly to the garden, but this option cannot be realized on every soil. To find a compromise, use good waterproofing and stone for finishing the basement, arrange high-quality drainage. Sometimes they equip a stepped terrace that hides a high basement.

Exterior... If the house is built from gas blocks or porous bricks, it becomes important to insulate the house with subsequent cladding. To preserve the purity of the image, high-quality materials are used: clinker, textured or aged bricks, as well as hand-molded bricks.

Selection of accessories... Classic metal faucets in the bathroom, bronze door handles, forged fences and copper (not plastic) pipes will look authentic.

The details make the house

Conclusion

A construction company with many years of experience in building houses in the English style on a turnkey basis will be able to competently approach the development of the project and guarantee the desired result - a stylish and reliable house, the future ancestral home of the family.

The house is in the English style, it would be appropriate to call it classic. Restraint and elegance are the main features that are inherent in these styles. The traditional English style still contains a certain aristocracy. In the modern world, it is quite difficult to adhere to one style in the design of your home, but in our article we will still try to figure out how to skillfully combine the basic elements of the English style with functionality, while maintaining harmony. And the 33 photos that accompany the material perfectly illustrate the depth of the presented style clearly.

The correct facade of the house in the English style

The construction of a private house involves preliminary planning of external and internal work, in which facade decoration plays a very important role. The facade of a house in the English style is, first of all, rigor and conservatism; it has many of its own features that should not be neglected. The facades of houses in the English style are noticeably distinguished by the originality of finishing materials and special decoration elements.

The most popular varieties of the English style:

  • Gregorian
  • Victorian
  • Tudor

Gregorian style

In the Gregorian style, the motives of antique architecture are quite tangible. As a rule, houses in this style are two-story. The first floor of the house has a high basement, wall covering in the form of cornices and moldings. The doors are made of wood, sometimes with small windows at the top.

The walls are most often made of red brick; visually, a certain classic brick house in the English style appears, reminiscent of the fabulous construction of the Middle Ages. The presence of artificial or wild stone in the front of the house is also a clear characteristic of the style. Facade cladding with foam or polyurethane is often found. These materials are light in weight and quite versatile, they are easy to paint to match natural materials.

Victorian style

This style is characterized by symmetry with the entrance to the center. The ceilings in Victorian houses are low, so the windows on the second floor are also quite low. The windows themselves are rounded. The roof of the house is covered with slate and symmetrical pipes, cone-shaped towers and cylindrical structures are used as decorations. The facade of the house in the English style has such striking differences as: stained glass windows, mosaic masonry and curly forging. The direct decoration of the house is done with brickwork. Eaves, doors and window transitions are made in contrasting colors.

Tudor style

As with the previous two, the Tudor-style façade uses brickwork. The masonry is made in the manner of a castle, and half-timbered is also used with filling the walls of a wooden frame with brick or stone material.

In houses made in the Tudor style, the presence of a porch is not accepted; instead, a small canopy is erected, which is decorated with climbing vegetation.

House in the English style: features of the design of the roof and foundation

In such houses, there is practically no foundation, the floor is laid almost on the ground layer of the earth. The garage is not customary to flaunt, so it is built in the middle of the site. It is also unacceptable to build separate sheds for the garage and make it adjacent to the wall of a residential building. The facade of the houses in the English style has a high roof. The most popular materials for roof construction are slate, shingles and even straw.

Previously, a roof made of natural materials spoke of the declining financial situation of the owners, but now such a roof is highly valued and considered environmentally friendly. The striking features of English-style roofs are sharpness and height.

Home interior in the English style: key elements and characteristics of the style

An indispensable element of the interior of a house in the English style can be safely called mahogany. Expensive and elegant material, perfect for furniture and interior decoration of the room. Monochrome walls are traditionally decorated with paintings or tapestries. Windows play a special role, they must be covered with rich multi-layered curtains, decorated with veils, draperies and laces.

The interior of the house in the English style is traditionally decorated in brown, gray, olive and white colors. There are several elements, thanks to which an English-style house cannot be confused with anything.

Fireplace - what is an English house without a fireplace? In cold and wet weather conditions, it performs not only an aesthetic function, but also a practical one. The best option would be a real fireplace, not an electric one, but it all depends on the possibilities of the living space. Most often, the fireplace becomes the center of the room, starting from it, a sofa, armchairs and other furniture will be placed.

Also, almost no English house is complete without a library. This can be a whole separate room, a rack, or just a few shelves. Several armchairs and a coffee table would be a great addition to the library.

And the last required element of the English style is the cage. This ornament is very often used in textiles. It is quite bright and stands out favorably against the background of other interior elements.

Perhaps many will find the interior of the house in the English style too restrained and conservative, but not fans of the classics. If a book, fireplace and a cup of tea are your ideal evening, then English style is for you.
