Manufacturing technology

  • Bamboo stalks are crushed and dried, folded in a room with a special temperature regime and a humidity level of about 45%. This allows the chips to dry out, but to prevent cracks from appearing on their surface.
  • Then the prepared stems are fixed on fabric or rice paper, stitching with threads for extra strength.
  • In the production process, dyeing is not used, but chips of the same tone are specially selected, which makes the material absolutely safe for people with allergies.
  • There are many colors of bamboo wallpaper: green, shades of brown, yellow and white. Varnish is also not used to cover the canvas, the only treatment that bamboo undergoes is antiseptic.

Specifications

Align the walls and corners carefully before gluing the bamboo wallpaper. This requirement is justified by the fact that the canvases are very stiff and bend poorly.

A special quality of bamboo is its strength, so the coating is quite durable and resistant to various influences.

The material is not afraid of the sun's rays and the ingress of small drops of water, it does not absorb odors and is an excellent option for a heat-insulating and sound-absorbing coating.

Getting ready for gluing

Note! The surface on which the sheets will be glued must not be covered with peeling paint or chalk plaster. A base made of brick, concrete or wood can be finished even without pretreatment.

Roll out the roll on a flat surface and leave for a couple of hours. The bamboo will get used to the temperature conditions in the room.

The first step is to prepare the glue for the bamboo wallpaper. An ordinary water-soluble one will not work here; you need to purchase liquid nails or a special vinyl-based composition.

We also need a plastic spatula and a soft brush.

You can cut the canvas across with an ordinary knife; for cutting along you will need metal scissors. Cut the roll into strips of the required size.

it is carried out end-to-end even at corners due to its low flexibility. The joints can be decorated with decorative moldings.

Apply to the wall and back of the canvas, distribute evenly and let sit for 5 minutes. As time passes, press the sheets against the wall. Do not press the strips too hard, so that the adhesive mass is solidified into a plastic layer. Excess glue from the surface is removed with a damp cloth.

To give an additional decorative effect, you can cover the surface with paints for wood, varnish it, wallpaper with an imitation of patina looks beautiful.

Surface exploitation

Before gluing bamboo wallpaper, read the basic rules for using the material:

  • Do not crease or bend the canvases.
  • Do not move the glued sheet along the wall.
  • Use a vacuum cleaner or soft sponge to remove dirt.
  • Do not use hard brushes to remove dust from the surface.
  • Avoid direct sunlight on green-colored surfaces.

Now you know how to glue bamboo wallpapers, you can safely start creating your own interior decorated in an oriental style. We hope that after the renovation the atmosphere of calmness and comfort inherent in Japanese culture will reign in the apartment. Good luck with your work!

Bamboo wallpaper is a modern finishing material with good decorative qualities. They are made from split bamboo stalks. Important advantages of such wallpapers are beauty and exoticism.

Bamboo wallpaper in the interior

How to glue bamboo wallpaper?

The answer is simple - they can be pasted over both the whole room and individual sections of the walls. Wallpaper can be glued on any kind of surfaces, without preliminary preparation - concrete, brick, wooden walls.

Sticking bamboo wallpaper carried out for the decoration of interiors made in ethnic style, however, there are no restrictions in this regard.

Such materials highlight any areas in the room with high quality - arches and columns. The strength of the bamboo makes the wallpaper highly durable. In addition, they are excellent sound and heat insulators.

It is necessary to pay attention to the presence of gaps in the structure of the bamboo - if they are large, then the production process was carried out with errors. Such wallpapers will last a much shorter period of time and will quickly lose their aesthetic appeal.

Bamboo wallpaper does not require careful joining of the edges in texture.

Bamboo Wallpaper Adhesive Review

Bamboo wallpapers are very heavy, so regular glues are not suitable for them. Let's analyze the possible options for adhesives for working with bamboo canvas.

Liquid Nails

This assembly composition allows you to reliably glue bamboo wallpaper, but it should be borne in mind that liquid nails do not have a very pleasant smell, which wears out for a long time. In addition, the active substances released by the adhesive are harmful to health. The store may offer you water-based liquid nails, but they won't work for heavy materials.

"Cooler than nails"

A good alternative to liquid nails will be the cooler nails glue. It has excellent adhesive properties and is less toxic. This glue is sold in cartridges, so you need a construction gun. "Steeper than nails" is suitable for gluing on a small area.

PVA glue

Although PVA holds the bamboo sheet, it is difficult to consider it from the point of view of an effective option, since the adhesion is rather weak. It is necessary to hold the wallpaper for a long time for the glue to set, and it is also recommended to additionally use nails and self-tapping screws for fixing.

Crazy Velcro

This glue can be found in some hardware stores. Despite the fact that there is not a word about bamboo wallpaper in the instructions for this composition, it keeps them perfectly. At the same time, it is safe and easy to use.

MULTIFIX

This is an Italian glue for gluing cork and bamboo linen. It is also used to repair shoes. The composition is very popular due to its high moisture resistance and adhesion.

LACRYSIL

This option is also called Cork Bamboo & Natural Coating Adhesive. It does not need to be diluted with water and is sold ready to use. The glue is odorless, safe and, most importantly, holds any heavy wallpaper well.

How not to be mistaken with the choice of bamboo wallpaper

Bamboo wallpaper is a natural and environmentally friendly material, they are quite expensive, so it is important to take a responsible approach to the choice of wallpaper, as well as to calculate the required amount of material for decoration.

The first thing to do is decide what type of wallpaper you want to purchase. The stores feature wallpapers from the inside and outside of bamboo. The former are distinguished by uniformity of color due to grinding during manufacture. They are smoother and calmer, therefore, to give them a zest, they are often coated with varnish or paint, but in this case they may lose their main advantage - environmental friendliness.

For the second, a pronounced texture is characteristic and even rings characteristic of this plant are noticeable. Such wallpapers do not require coloring, they themselves look unusual and may differ in color, because each plant has its own shade.

Due to the fact that there are many fakes in stores, ask the seller to provide certificates for the goods before buying.

Some helpful tips:

  • The specific texture of bamboo wallpapers does not allow them to be used in such interior styles as classic, shabby chic, loft, but they are perfect for eco-style and in oriental interiors.
  • It is worth using bamboo in the interior only if you can combine it with other natural materials, for example, wood, ceramics, stone, textiles. Then it will be possible to fully reveal their beauty and create a complete interior.
  • Wallpaper can only be used as an accent, for example, on furniture (it is also an easy way to restore an old wardrobe or chest of drawers).
  • Combining bamboo with cool tones, you create a strict and refined atmosphere, and with warm ones, a cozy atmosphere.
  • It is best to complement bamboo with wooden interior items, as well as live plants and stone figurines.

Instructions on how to prepare a room and glue bamboo wallpaper

The following tools are required to glue bamboo sheets:

  • glue,
  • plastic spatula,
  • nylon brush,
  • soft cloth.

Operating procedure:

  1. Wallpaper cutting. Cutting out a bamboo canvas is not as easy as any other wallpaper. Bamboo is durable, so we use a sharp knife to cut the wallpaper between the slats right on the fabric. If you need to cut across, use a hacksaw, or even better, if you have a jigsaw at hand. In this case, the hacksaw blade must be with small teeth, otherwise it will simply tear the material.
  2. Surface preparation... We remove the remnants of the previous coating. Small defects in the walls do not need to be putty, since the bamboo canvas will hide them well. We prime the walls and leave to dry. Walls.
  3. Glue application. We apply the composition on the back of the wallpaper, but not on the entire fabric, but on its dense part. To do this, first spread a layer of glue along the wall with a spatula, and then apply it to the wallpaper. We coat the edges well, since the bamboo sheet is always glued only end-to-end. Leave the glue to soak in for 8-10 minutes.
  4. Sticking. We press the strip of wallpaper against the wall and go through with a swiping motion and remove. Leave it on for a few minutes so that the glue is well absorbed. Then we press it again against the wall and go through with a soft roller, moving from top to bottom. Remove excess glue with a soft cloth. Wallpaper can also be attached to walls made of chipboard and drywall using a stapler.

After 2-3 hours it will be clear how well the wallpaper has fixed. It often happens that the procedure has to be repeated.

The next strips are glued in the same way to the previous ones.

VIDEO INSTRUCTION

Corner gluing

We cut the material close to the corner, install moldings at the joints or cover them with paint or putty. The paint must be matched to the color of the bamboo and carefully paint over the transitions, corners and joints with it. We also tint the putty in the color of the wallpaper and paint over the transitions.

Useful tips for use:

  • do not bend or wrinkle the canvas,
  • do not move the glued canvases along the wall,
  • use a soft cloth or vacuum cleaner to clean the bamboo (hard materials are not suitable).

If you choose the right glue and follow the installation technology, bamboo wallpaper will become a worthy decoration for your interior.

Rules for gluing bamboo wallpaper

Be sure to read the instructions from the packaging, bamboo wallpapers differ from each other and therefore their gluing may, in one way or another, differ.

  1. The walls must be ideally prepared for gluing, because these wallpapers are heavy enough and the glue must adhere well to the wall.
  2. When working with corners, it is better to adjust the width of the glued piece of bamboo wallpaper in advance, and not cut it in place, it can turn out crooked and not neat.
  3. It is considered the most optimal to paste over only one wall in the room with such wallpaper, so it will stand out, and you will avoid pasting the corners.
  4. Any glue that has not been absorbed is carefully removed from the surface of the material. To do this, you can use a regular damp cloth.
  5. For work, you need a plastic spatula and a soft brush.
  6. It must be remembered that the better the glue used, the longer the bamboo wallpaper will adorn the interior of the house with its presence. A bad glue solution will lead to the fact that after a short period of time, the finishing materials will lose their attractive appearance, become covered with swellings or fall off altogether.
  7. Glue for bamboo wallpaper must be environmentally friendly, free from foreign odors, completely safe for the environment, animals and humans, be resistant to fire and not have a detrimental effect on exposed skin. You need to use only the material that is intended for working with wood coatings. Heat and low humidity increase the adhesion of the wallpaper to the wall surface and speed up the drying process.

Consumption of glue for bamboo wallpaper

When glue is applied to the surface of the walls and to the wallpaper itself, there will be the most expensive option for glue consumption - about 300-350 grams per m2. If the adhesive is applied only to bamboo, the consumption will be 200-250 grams per square meter.

The adhesive should be applied evenly, especially on the edges, to avoid splitting joints. High-quality impregnation of canvases is half the battle. This prevents the wallpaper from shrinking.

How to glue bamboo wallpaper? It is worth thinking about this even before buying an expensive, but very beautiful finishing material. The fact is that high quality trellises from this evergreen plant are made by hand. They are not painted, but only chips are selected by color. Therefore, it is almost impossible to replace a damaged roll: the color shades will not match.

Varieties of bamboo wallpaper.

Where is bamboo wallpaper appropriate?

Reed trellis is a highly environmentally friendly material. In addition to the undoubted benefits of this quality and beauty, they have several more attractive features: the crushed stems repel dust, do not fade, but, on the contrary, acquire an increasingly refined shade over the years.

An example of calculating wallpaper for a room.

A room fully papered with bamboo wallpaper will not only look great, but also create a very healthy climate. However, natural material from a crushed plant is very expensive, so most often only parts of the walls are decorated with it, creating interior details in an oriental or African style. It can be an arch separating one room from another, a niche above the bed (Fig. 1) or an imitation of a panel on the wall (Fig. 2). Since this natural material can be easily washed with a regular sponge, it can be used to decorate the walls of a kitchen or dining room.

Bamboo wallpaper undergoes only antiseptic treatment. No paints, no glue, no other chemicals are used to create them. Even rice paper, on which the chips are applied, is prepared using a special technology. This, of course, applies to handicrafts. But even mass-produced bamboo wallpaper is more environmentally friendly than, for example, vinyl or non-woven wallpaper. That is why they will be appropriate in the bedroom, nursery or playroom.

How to prepare walls for a sticker

Bamboo wallpaper is a dense, poorly bendable material, rather heavy in weight. That is why, before thinking about how to glue bamboo wallpaper, you need to especially carefully prepare the surface. It is also important to pay attention to the glue: ordinary wallpaper will not hold heavy material on the wall.

Wallpaper marking scheme.

They begin by preparing the room and carefully examining the place that will be covered with wallpaper. What should you pay attention to?

  1. The surface must be perfectly flat.
  2. It cannot have plaster, paint, or other materials that can peel off. They should be removed, and the base should be covered with a special primer that excludes flaking and the appearance of dust.
  3. It is believed that bamboo wallpaper can be glued to stone, brick, wood and concrete without pretreating the wall with putty. This method is permissible, however, the primer will increase adhesion, therefore, the trellises will hold more reliably.
  4. The corners should be well aligned horizontally and vertically. This is important: bamboo wallpaper bends very poorly, so there is a chance that it will not fit tightly into the corner if it is not perfectly shaped.
  5. If all these conditions are met, then the gluing process itself will not be difficult.

A few words about glue. What glue to glue the tapestries? This requires a special vinyl compound, or better - liquid nails. The fine-grained filler included in their composition allows them to withstand a lot of weight and create an elastic adhesive layer.

How to glue bamboo wallpaper: how to work

To begin with, rolls are rolled out in the room where they will be glued and left for several hours. During this time, the material adapts to the climate and becomes more malleable.

The scheme of gluing wallpaper on the walls.

During this time, you can prepare the tools for cutting wallpaper. It is easy to cut them lengthwise with an ordinary knife, but only metal scissors can cope with a cross cut.

You can prepare the glue. Typically, the packaging indicates its consumption and method of dilution.

When the trellises are straightened, they need to be cut. This can be done by applying the material to the wall and using a pencil to mark the desired length and width of the panels. Correctly gluing bamboo wallpapers means cutting them correctly and fixing them precisely on the wall.

When the cut out parts are ready, glue is applied to both the panel and the place on the wall where it will be attached. A wide, soft brush works well for these purposes. Leave this way for 5-10 minutes (the exact time can be found on the package with glue). After that, the trellis is applied to the desired place, aligned according to the previously applied markings and with a soft spatula on top, with the movements of the "street" drive off the excess glue. Drops protruding at the edges are immediately removed. A plumb line will help to monitor the verticality of the trellises. So that the strips glued to the wall hold tightly, firmly, but at the same time do not warp, do not press them too tightly against the wall.

Those who are doing the sticker on their own are faced with the question of how to glue bamboo wallpaper: end-to-end or overlapping? Since the material is very dense, this can only be done end-to-end. Yes, the seams between the stripes will be visible. They can be decorated with wooden slats, metal strips, etc.

It is important to remember: even corners are glued end-to-end.

As soon as the trellis has taken its place, you can move on to the next one.

Three people can make the gluing process continuous. While two are fixing the wallpaper in place, the third glue the next piece with glue. If one or two people work, then it is better to adhere to a different algorithm.

  1. Lubricate the workpiece with glue, leave for impregnation.
  2. Grease a place on the surface to be treated with glue.
  3. Grease the second workpiece with glue.
  4. Stick the first strip on the wall.

It is inconvenient for one to do such work, but it is quite possible.

A few little tricks

Characteristics of dry wallpaper glue.

Thinking about how to properly glue bamboo wallpaper, you need to take into account several points on which the quality of the final result depends.

  1. The sheets (and rolls) must not be wrinkled or bent. The chips that make up the decorative layer can "break", which will spoil the presentation of the wallpaper.
  2. Trellis greased with glue must not be moved along the wall.
  3. It is recommended to remove any residual or excess glue immediately with a soft cloth. After finishing work, in order to get rid of dust and possible dirt, the wallpaper should be vacuumed and wiped with a damp sponge.
  4. When cleaning walls from plaster before gluing, when removing dust from glued tapestries, do not use a stiff brush.
  5. When working indoors, you need to close the windows: a draft can create a temperature drop, from which the stripes can warp.

These little tricks will help you get the job done well.

Some designers suggest covering the already glued stripes with a layer of varnish, applying a pattern in the form of a patina. It is undoubtedly beautiful. However, it is worth considering: does it make sense to cover an environmentally friendly material with chemical compounds?

If all the subtleties are taken into account when gluing, the oriental or African interior will delight apartment owners for more than one year. The service life of bamboo wallpaper is many times higher than that of all other finishing materials.

Similar materials

Bamboo wallpaper is one of the relatively new methods of wall and ceiling decoration. The material has become widespread thanks to the fashion of recent years: the design of the home in an emphasized natural style with the use of natural materials. And not just of natural origin, but accentuating it.

Accordingly, it is not permissible in every interior. The material has a characteristic structure, is best combined with the same textured natural surfaces and does not tolerate proximity to metal and plastic. It is recommended to use wallpaper for decoration of rooms in ecological, ethnic styles, stylization of Japanese or Chinese minimalism.

Varieties of bamboo wallpaper

To know how to properly glue bamboo wallpaper on the walls, you need to figure out what they are. This is a row of thin bamboo dies glued to a fabric base. The width of the slats can be different - 4, 7, 12, 17, 25 mm. The width of the roll itself varies from 90 to 250 cm.

The finishing began to use success due to its excellent user qualities:

  • Moisture resistance - Although bamboo is a wood-based material, its moisture resistance is exceptional. Finishing is allowed not only indoors, but also outside. Gluing bamboo wallpaper in the bathroom or kitchen is justified.
  • Excellent heat and sound insulation. In city apartments, the price of this quality is enormous.
  • The specific texture - volumetric, allows you to hide minor wall defects.
  • Mechanical strength - bamboo is difficult to scratch or damage in any other way. Therefore, gluing bamboo wallpaper is a great option for homes with four-legged inhabitants.
  • The material goes well with wood, tiles, plaster, paper wallpaper. The range of colors includes both natural shades - from green to copper, and obtained by additional coloring. On the canvas, slats of different colors can be combined, creating a pattern or drawing. The master class for gluing bamboo wallpaper in the video below offers both horizontal and vertical placement.

The disadvantages of products include only the installation features. It is quite difficult to achieve accurate matching in color and pattern here. You need to cut the material with a hacksaw for metal. When pasting, it is advisable to use a special compound.

Adhesives for bamboo wallpaper

What kind of glue can be used to glue bamboo wallpaper does not depend on the nature of the wall, since the finishing material is decisive here. First, bamboo does not tolerate water-soluble or water-based compounds. Secondly, the wallpaper is tough, so the glue must have high adhesive properties.

For gluing bamboo wallpaper, you can use a special glue based on polychloropropylene or vinyl. The glue has a pungent smell, and since bamboo wallpaper is properly glued indoors, it is recommended to carry out work in a respirator. Liquid nails or Velcro glue like Pufas K12 also give good results. In some cases, the use of parquet glue is allowed.

Preparation of premises and tools

Before deciding how to glue bamboo wallpaper, you should prepare the work surfaces: walls, ceiling or individual areas. Both brick and concrete walls can be finished with the material, but it is forbidden to glue the bamboo canvas onto a layer of paint or chalk whitewash.

  • The floor and large pieces of furniture are covered with plastic wrap.
  • The surface is cleaned of dust, dirt or traces of the old coating.
  • If the unevenness of the wall is too large - the height difference is more than 3 mm, then the surfaces are leveled with plaster, then treated with a penetrating primer.
  • It is recommended to make a vertical plumb line.

Before gluing the bamboo wallpaper, it is advisable to allow the material to acclimatize: leave it rolled out for a day in the room where the finish is supposed to be.

To work, you will need a standard set of devices:

  • Adhesive - a special glue is recommended, as it guarantees the best result.
  • Scissors or a hacksaw for metal - Provides the smoothest cut.
  • Glue spatula, preferably serrated.
  • Rubber roller for pressing the web.
  • You need to choose clothes with long sleeves and a respirator.

Because of all of the above, the price for gluing bamboo wallpaper is higher than usual. This does not exclude the possibility of independent work, but it will require attention and thoroughness.

Technology for gluing bamboo wallpaper on the wall

Gluing bamboo wallpaper is best viewed in the video, but the instructions for this lesson will also serve as a good help to carry out the work correctly and efficiently.

A web of bamboo wallpaper is cut to size depending on the method of gluing - vertically or horizontally.

Glue is being prepared. Then the composition is applied both to the wall surface and to the seamy fabric side of the wallpaper. It is best to use a notched trowel for this process. It is recommended to wait 10-15 minutes for the construction master class in the video. During this period, the glue becomes transparent, partially absorbed, which will provide the best adhesion of the canvas to the surface.

If “liquid nails” are used for fixing, then there is no need to wait. The canvas is pressed against the wall along the markings without much effort, the excess glue is removed. It usually takes about 8 minutes to set. Then you need to smooth the wallpaper with a rubber roller. The canvas fits only end-to-end. After drying, the joints are hidden with paints or putty.

2-3 hours after pasting, you need to check the quality of adhesion again: tap suspicious areas with your palm, smooth with a roller. If a cavity is found under the material, proceed as follows: take glue into a syringe and inject it under the wallpaper, then level it with a roller.

The instructional video explains in detail how to glue bamboo wallpaper. The greatest attention should be paid to the stage of placing the canvas on the wall. Due to the high rigidity and bulkiness, the wallpaper cannot be leveled or folded in the usual way, so you need to work with it carefully.

Bamboo wallpaper- excellent finishing material: beautiful, durable, environmentally friendly and designed for use in a wide variety of conditions. Wallpaper decoration is allowed both in living rooms and in work rooms. The gluing is done in the same way, since it does not depend on the surface material.

The main requirement during work is the accuracy of handling the bamboo linen. It's a shame to waste such an excellent natural material. Following the above recommendations, you can achieve an excellent result without much effort and transform the interior beyond recognition. Successful repairs to you!

What is good about bamboo wallpaper - myths, reality and arrangement technique in 5 steps

Since the beginning of the 2000s, a wave of general enthusiasm for environmentally friendly products has brought natural bamboo wallpaper for walls to the peak of popularity, at the same time giving rise to many myths about them. Let's try to figure out what is true in these advertising "fairy tales" and why they are really good, and at the same time I will tell you how to stick bamboo wallpaper with your own hands in 5 steps.

Myths and reality

Bamboo is a tree-like plant belonging to the order of cereals. At the moment, more than 1000 varieties of bamboo are known, but a narrow direction called "triba-bamboo" is used for surface finishing. A characteristic feature of this trend is that in the process of growth, the stem stiffens.

What is in the modern market

Bamboo finishing is used not only for walls, it is actively used in the furniture industry, and the same types of cladding are used everywhere, and there are 4 such types in total:

  1. Wallpaper from the outside. The first type is the most popular, but it is also the most expensive, the price for 1 m² now starts at 500 rubles. Here, the upper cut of the stem is used, the coating looks luxurious and its performance characteristics are high;
  2. Lacquered and sanded bamboo from the inside of the stem... It represents absolutely identical planks, ground according to the given patterns. Even at the manufacturing stage, these strips are impregnated with protective compounds and varnished; visually, the classic pattern of bamboo is not visible in them, such a finish is more like a lining;
  3. Dyed bamboo... Manufacturers position it as a new word in the industry and promise absolute environmental friendliness. In reality, painted strips differ from sanded ones only in their original colors and the absence of varnish. In general, the product is not for everybody;
  4. Thin bamboo mats known since Soviet times, only now they are called stitched. The low price is due to the fact that the planks are practically not processed here, but on the other hand, you get absolutely natural canvases. True, not everyone likes thin (1 - 2 mm) one-color mats.

Most of the models of bamboo canvases are now produced on a fabric basis, but the classic wallpaper is based on rice paper.

The width of the slats ranges from 5-30 mm. The thickness largely depends on the texture, the thinnest mats are 1 mm thick, and the thickness of natural fabrics from the upper part of the stem, as well as polished strips, can be up to 25 mm.

As befits wallpaper, the product is sold in rolls, the minimum roll width is 900 mm. The maximum for serial models is 2.5 m. Wide rolls are convenient because the strips can be placed vertically or glued diagonally without connecting fittings.

Wicker bamboo wallpapers have recently appeared on the market, they are elastic, easy to glue and look original, but they are expensive.

Real pros and cons

I will not list the standard set of merits that advertising promises; instead, we will try to evaluate all these merits from a critical point of view.

  • Wear resistance- every second instruction for such a coating promises that the cladding will last from 20 years or more. But this is true only for top-class coatings from the upper part of the stem, and in rooms with a humidity level not higher than average, for example, in the kitchen;

Polished strips can last for 30 years, plus some models are allowed to be installed even in bathrooms, but we are not talking about environmental friendliness here, because they are impregnated with waterproof urethane-alkyd varnishes;

  • Noise isolation- any wall covering provides a certain level of sound insulation, while bamboo wallpapers do not have any outstanding sound insulation characteristics. So vinyl wallpaper for bamboo and real mats equally protect from noise;

  • Simple gluing- it's true, even an amateur can paste over a room with such wallpaper. Moreover, the small curvature of the walls for such a coating is not a problem, here you do not need to ideally draw the plane, the main thing is that the base is strong and not crumbled;
  • Easy care- the truth is, any bamboo can be washed with a soft sponge with gentle detergents;
  • Sociability- you can combine bamboo wallpapers with any materials, the main thing is that the color scheme matches. The latest squeak is considered to be real bamboo and 3D wallpaper in the interior of the living room and bedroom.

There are only 2 tangible disadvantages of this wallpaper - this is a serious price and a fear of high humidity. Although if you cover the bamboo with yacht varnish, then even in the bathroom it will not be in danger. We figured out the views, pros and cons, now it's time to tell you how to glue bamboo wallpaper.

Glueing bamboo in 5 steps

As already mentioned, wallpaper is easy to glue, I think that it is even easier than gluing ordinary canvases, the main thing is to choose the right glue for bamboo wallpaper on a fabric basis, we will begin with this step.

Step # 1. Choosing an adhesive

Illustrations Recommendations

Finishing putty.

In principle, it is possible to plant a bamboo cloth on a damp putty, but it is wet, and bamboo absorbs moisture and can lead to drying the planks.

Plus, the white putty sticks out through the planks and is hard to clean afterwards.

Liquid Nails.

Excellent glue, but liquid nails are polymer-based with solvents, so the first few days there will be a pungent smell of chemistry in the room.

MULTIFIX adhesive.

Italian compound with good adhesion to any type of wall. Plus, this glue is highly moisture resistant.

Glue "LACRYSIL".

This composition is positioned as environmentally friendly, it practically does not smell and firmly holds any kind of heavy canvas, including cork and bamboo.

Vinyl compounds.

Domestic composition of high quality at an affordable price. This glue was originally developed for cork and bamboo.

Step # 2. Prepare the base

On the forums, perhaps the most popular question is - is it possible to glue bamboo wallpaper onto wallpaper? So, for lazy people I explain - it is impossible.

Paper, vinyl, non-woven and other canvases are much lighter than bamboo and cork, so if you try to stick a heavy covering on a light one, it is very likely that it will all fall off together.

Water-based paint and whitewash will have to be washed off. The process is simple, take a sponge and rinse it off with warm water. It is advisable, but not necessary, to clean oil and polymer paints that adhere firmly to the walls. Personally, in such a situation, I peel off with a scraper only what falls off by itself.

But even on clean and strong walls, you cannot immediately glue bamboo. Before installing heavy coatings, the wall must be treated with a strengthening soil at least once, and it is better to take deep penetration soil. The gluing can be started only after the soil has dried.

Step number 3. Cutting

You can spread the canvas along the slats with any sharp and durable knife. DIYers usually have a problem with how to cut the bamboo across the slats. There are three ways to solve it:

  1. Thin blades up to 3 mm are relatively easy to cut with metal scissors. I do not recommend doing this procedure with thick lamellas, as they crack;
  2. A straight and clean cut is obtained using a hand-held miter saw. I do not advise you to take a grinder, in general, it is strictly forbidden to cut any wood with a grinder, it is too dangerous;
  3. A jigsaw with a fine tooth is equally well suited for both straight and curved cuts, which is why it is used most often for cutting bamboo.

Step number 4. Glue the panels

Only thick types of glue are used under such wallpapers, you will not apply them with a brush, there can also be problems with a roller. It is best to take a spatula and spread the composition in a thin layer. First, the canvas itself is lubricated.

Now, in the same way, take a spatula and spread the glue on the wall with a thin layer. True, if the wall is curved, then the composition will have to be applied with a thicker layer, respectively, the consumption of glue will be higher.

Step number 5. Completion of work

As such, a bamboo finish is not needed, but you will have to equip the joints between the canvases and cultivate the edges of the panels, as they are very visible. For these purposes, fittings are produced in various configurations. Such strips are either glued with the same glue, or nailed down with small nails.

If the glue comes out between the planks, do not rush to wipe it off immediately, a stain will remain. Better to wait until the glue is dry and knock it off with a knife.
