A rakolovka from a fish tank. How to make do-it-yourself crayfish from improvised means? About the types of traps

Many people like to feast on boiled crayfish meat, but not everyone knows how to catch them. Catching with a net is not always convenient, so the easiest way will be to make a simple trap, from which the crayfish will definitely not be able to get out.

The videos below will help you understand the process of creating a trap from scrap materials.

For work we need:
- metal mesh with a mesh of 6mm;
- pliers;
- metal wire;
- scissors for metal;
- marker;
- nylon thread;
- roulette;
- wire cutters.

Having prepared all the materials, we get to work.
We measure 80 cm from the grid, with its width of 1 m.Make a mark with a marker and cut off with scissors for metal.

After that, we twist the cut piece into a tube. We connect the edges of the mesh by inserting the edges of the cells suddenly into another and bending the metal ends.

Now we need to take a metal wire and cut a small piece from it, about 10 cm, and use it to make a more reliable fastening of the edges of the mesh. Cutting off excess wire ends. Make the distance between the wire fasteners 5-7 cm.

The protruding sharp edges of the mesh can either be bent or bite off.

Our blank is ready. Now you need to measure the diameter of the resulting circle and mark the same distance on a new piece of mesh. We draw a semicircle with a marked diameter. We cut it out with scissors for metal. Mark the center of the straight part of the semicircle. From the mark we measure 5 cm in each direction and outline another semicircle, cut it out.

Now we need to connect the two edges of our semicircle. It turns out something like a cone. We fasten the edges with wire. We insert our cone into the blank of the trap body and also fasten the edges with wire along the entire perimeter.

We perform exactly the same actions for the second side of our crayfish trap. Do not forget to nibble or bend the protruding edges of the mesh.

The next step we need to make a window through which we will get the crayfish and put the groundbait. To do this, draw a small square in the middle with a marker. We cut out three of its sides with the help of nippers, then simply bending back the window.

- a dish that many people love. But before you can enjoy this true delicacy, you need to get it. The most convenient way to catch crayfish is with the help of special devices - crayfish.

Benefits of crayfish

Crayfish harvesting is a fast and highly efficient method of catching arthropods. The fishing process using this device is simple:

  1. a special bait is laid;
  2. sinks to the bottom of the reservoir;
  3. installed at the bottom and fixed;
  4. left for a certain time;
  5. gets every 2-3 hours, in order to control the catch.

To avoid disappointing catch, there are two main factors to consider:

  • direction of the current (subject to catching crayfish in the river);
  • quality of complementary foods.

For complementary foods, choose exclusively fresh fish, as well as some types of fruits and vegetables. You can make bran balls with pepper.

Never use rotten fish. Contrary to popular belief, it does not attract crayfish at all.

Types of crayfish

Rakolovka from a metal hoop. This type of device is made from an ordinary metal ring (hoop) and a mesh mesh with dimensions of 20x20 mm. Arthropod bait is placed in the center of the circle. This is the most primitive variety of crayfish, which, nevertheless, allows you to get a good catch.

Rakolovka from two metal hoops. This is a more sophisticated type of crayfish trap. It is made up of 2 durable metal hoops of different diameters. For example, you can take rings with a diameter of 50 and 80 cm.The hoops with a net should form a kind of cone with a cut end and a height of about 20 cm.The bait in such a rakolovka is suspended on a wire in the center of the upper hoop, or drops inward, to the very center of the lower (large ) of the hoop.

Trapezoidal rakolovka. This trap has a trapezoidal shape and is a metal mesh cage. Such rakolovki are quite effective and easy to use.

Despite the fact that traps for crayfish can be easily purchased at specialized fishing stores, many people prefer to make them on their own from various materials at hand.

Making rakolovka from plastic bottles

As practice shows, an excellent trap for crayfish can be made from ordinary plastic bottles. For work, you will need three bottles - two five-liter and one liter, a clerical knife and an ordinary awl.

Material preparation

The first step is to properly prepare containers. To do this, carefully cut off the neck and bottom from a small plastic bottle. The result should be a small cylinder.

How to catch more fish?

I have been active fishing for quite some time now and have found many ways to improve my bite. And here are the most effective ones:

  1. Bite activator. Attracts fish in cold and warm water with the help of pheromones and stimulates their appetite. It is a pity that Rosprirodnadzor wants to ban its sale.
  2. More sensitive gear. You can find reviews and instructions for other types of gear on the pages of my website.
  3. Pheromone baits.

You can get the rest of the secrets of successful fishing for free by reading our other articles on the site.

To cut the material easier, the knife blade should first be held over the fire for a few seconds.

Then the bottom is cut off from one 5-liter bottle and the throat from another. The neck of a bottle without a bottom is cut to the size of a cylinder made from a liter bottle. To do this, put the cylinder on the neck so that the bottle cap is exactly in the center, circle it with a permanent marker and cut it off.

After that, holes are made along one of the edges of the cylinder with an interval of 15 mm. A similar procedure is carried out with both large containers.

Assembling the structure

At this stage, all the bottles are sewn together with a fishing line, which is threaded through the holes made in advance. The containers should be connected to each other in the following order: first a small bottle, then both large ones. On the edge of a liter bottle, special strips are made, which are then folded inward.

After the assembly of the rakolovka is completed, it is necessary to make a large number of holes on its surface using a clerical knife to accelerate the immersion of the structure under water. The last two holes are required for attaching the rope, with which the trap will be pulled out with the catch.

DIY nylon mesh rakolovka

Crayfish traps made of nylon mesh are also called inkpots. A small amount of materials are required to make them:

  • fine nylon mesh;
  • strong nylon thread;
  • thick wire (5 mm);
  • nippers.

The manufacture of rakolovka from nylon mesh involves the following list of works:

  1. Two rings are made of wire; the diameter of the first is from 35 to 60 cm, the second is from 15 to 20 cm.
  2. The main ring is covered with a nylon mesh. It is important that the gap between the thread passing through the ring is at least 2 centimeters.
  3. 3 pieces of wire are made for spacers - without them, the fabricated structure will fold when immersed in a pond. The length of the cut wire can vary from 15 to 20 centimeters.
  4. With one of the ends, with the help of pliers, it is securely fixed to the large ring, and the other to the small one.
  5. The resulting trap must be wrapped around the edges of the mesh, while walking around the holes, as well as around the rim. For convenience, a comfortable handle should be attached to the finished rakolovka.

How to make rakolovka from rolled metal mesh

Rolls made of rolled metal mesh are quite simple to manufacture and do not require any special skills and experience. In this case, the resulting product will be distinguished by its durability and reliability.

To make a trap made of rolled metal mesh you will need:

  • metal mesh (roll width 1 m);
  • scissors for metal;
  • durable wire;
  • ruler;
  • nylon thread;
  • protective gloves.

Making a metal trap for crayfish includes the following list of works:

  1. A piece with parameters 80x100 cm is cut from the net roll.
  2. The metal mesh is given a cylindrical shape, while the edges are fixed to each other with a wire. Based on the selected mesh size, the diameter should be 25 cm.
  3. A semicircle with a radius of 25 cm is cut out of the mesh, a 5 cm long segment is measured from the center of the radius with a ruler, a circle with a radius of 5 cm is formed and then cut off with scissors. The output is a cut-off cone.
  4. Installation of the cone is carried out with the pointed end inside the cylinder. Its edges and the body of the cylinder are also connected to each other with the help of a wire. On the second side of the structure, a similar cone from a metal mesh is made and attached.
  5. A 15x20 cm rectangle is marked in the center of the metal mesh cylinder, the wire is bitten on three sides. The result is a door for placing the bait inside the crayfish. After placing the bait, the door is fixed with a wire in the places where the cuts were made.
  6. A rope is attached to the edges of the trap, by means of which the structure with the caught crayfish will be removed from the reservoir.

Currently, the range of rakolovki is wide enough, and some modifications are quite possible to make on your own. Each fisherman himself chooses which trap option to prefer. In order not to be mistaken, it is recommended to test different models and in practice determine which crayfish attracts arthropods more effectively in your case.

In order to be able to catch crayfish in large quantities, it is necessary to use special devices for this - crayfish. This is a popular type of trap that is simple in its design and very effective in its use. They are not particularly expensive and, if desired, you can make them yourself at home.

In most cases, such devices consist of metal circles, ovals or squares, covered with a mesh with large or small cells. Such designs are used both for their immediate intended purpose and for luring certain types of fish. The catch in either of these two cases will be significantly better than when using other fishing methods.

Types of crayfish

Open

They look like a metal hoop covered with mesh (or 2-3 hoops). Ropes are attached along the entire perimeter of the hoop, connected to each other at a distance of 0.5 m from the base of this trap. A cord is attached to them, with the help of which the rakolovka can be lowered into the water. To prevent such a device from tilting to one side during use, the holding ropes must be of the same length.

Open-type structures also include more complicated structures, which are made of two circles with different diameters. They are attached parallel to one another, a smaller circle is placed slightly higher than the second, without tightening it with a net, in order to leave an entrance for prey.

There is also a more improved version of the open rakolovka - the so-called "inkwell". It already consists of 3 circles, the smallest of which is fixed inside the second upper circle, thereby creating an almost closed space.

Closed

Such crayfish are very catchy. Sometimes they are also called nocturnal or crustacean houses. It is much more convenient to catch crayfish with closed crayfish than with open ones, but they are more difficult to manufacture. Often they are made foldable for ease of transportation. The main advantage of closed crayfish is that they do not need to be checked frequently. Over the entire night, they need to be checked no more than 2-3 times, or they can even be left until the morning. There is no need to fear, as is the case with the use of open-type crayfish, that the prey, having eaten enough of the bait, will escape.

Varieties of closed crayfish

Rakolovki can be made of nylon net or polyethylene fishing line. It is advisable to use the first option for catching soft young individuals, so as not to damage them with hard material in the process. For adult crayfish, the second option is quite suitable.

The cost of rakolovki may vary depending on the season, material, manufacturer, size and model. An inexpensive, easy-to-use crayfish trap is great for beginners. The catch in such crayfish will be slightly less than in complex models, but they are completely elementary to use.

How to make crayfish yourself

For this you will need:

  • mesh with fine meshes;
  • wire with a diameter of 4-6 mm;
  • plastic clamps;
  • nylon thread.

Manufacturing steps

Various types of crayfish can be used to catch crayfish. In order for the catch to be successful, when choosing this trap, it is necessary to take into account the characteristics of the reservoir, the availability of a swimming device and the desired volume of catch. Long traps can hold from 30 to 100 crayfish, while round ones (50-80 cm in diameter) can only hold about 10 individuals at a time.

Personally, I catch crayfish in a variety of ways and look forward to the end of the ban period. I can say that crayfish on our table is not a delicacy, but a familiar dish, and practically free at any time of the year, even in winter and autumn. I make the rakolovki myself, with my own hands, and I take the drawings from books, the Internet, some are still from my grandfather.

The success of my fishing largely depends on the fact that I know where to catch crayfish in a river or lake, where to place crayfish and what baits are needed. There is nothing particularly difficult and after reading this article, you will learn a lot for yourself and you can successfully fish anywhere on your own. The main thing is not to break the law, which I think is quite fair, since it contributes to an increase in the population of these crustaceans, unfortunately rare for our places.

How to catch

Nowadays, cancer is a much rarer prey than fish. Racha meat is tender and tasty and more and more beer lovers prefer it as a snack. In addition, crayfish is very often used as bait when fishing for large predatory fish species.

A large crayfish can reach a length of twenty centimeters or more with its claws! The weight of large individuals is up to 200 grams - 5 crayfish is already a kilogram! The extraction of such specimens in our time is a real luck to catch such a great luck! Usually crustaceans a little over ten centimeters come across even in those places where crayfish are found in abundance. We will describe in more detail how to catch crayfish for rakolovka in order, starting with their manufacture.

How and when is crayfish fishing allowed?

Everyone knows that properly cooked crayfish are extremely tasty, especially with beer, and therefore the question of when it is allowed to catch crayfish and whether it is possible to catch crayfish in general worries not only crayfish, but also ordinary people. But it is worth knowing that there are regions in which fishing for crayfish is prohibited at all, regardless of the time of year, such regions include Moscow and the Moscow region. Those who violate this law can be held accountable. So before you go to catch them, find out if it is possible to catch them in your region and in what months, i.e. when can you catch crayfish. From myself I can give advice that since these representatives of the order of crustaceans are very rare, refrain from catching them while the females are hatching eggs, and if you accidentally catch such an individual, release them. They don't know a lot, but crayfish mate in winter and at this time they have eggs.

Equally, you need to know that there are restrictions on their catch and size. Crayfish fishing with a length of nine to ten centimeters is allowed. Measurement is made as follows. The body itself is measured from the line of the eyes to the tip of the tail. It is allowed to use no more than 3 crayfish per person. The diameter of each tackle is more than 0.8 m, the cell pitch should be less than 2.2 millimeters. Probably, many do not know, but fishing for crayfish or diving is also not allowed. For such an act, you will be fined.

Crayfish fishing

Open type crayfish

Raklovka, or otherwise rachny or racheshny, is a fairly convenient and efficient fishing gear. They are inexpensive, and if necessary, you can make them yourself. These tackles can have a different device. For the simplest one, you need some mesh, wire and wood. The easiest to manufacture is the so-called rakolovka - a grip, very similar in appearance to a plate. You can make it from wire or an ordinary wooden circle. If the rakolovka is round, then its optimal dimensions are from fifty to seventy centimeters. On this circle, you need to pull the net so that it can sag in the center.

If you need rakolovka for deep fishing, then you need to tie 3 or 4 ropes to it and connect them with a knot, to which a rope is tied, with which the tackle will rise and fall. A float is attached to the end made of foam or other material. This tackle is suitable and crayfish can also be caught in it in winter.

For fishing on the shallows, another tackle is better, its difference from the above is that the float must be replaced with a pole, which will need to be stuck into the ground during fishing. The bait should be tied to a pole or directly to the center of the net.

A similar design has a crust, which consists of a circle (wire or wooden), a bag in it in the shape of a cone with a sinker fixed in the center. Usually, such a tackle is made by ordinary worms (preferably dung), they are strung on a thin wire and attached to a circle. A crayfish of this type is lowered and raised with the help of a rope.

Fishing for crayfish with crayfish is very easy, but you need to know that if you lift such a tackle slowly or it twists over, the crayfish will have time to scatter. Therefore, it rises quickly and sharply. It is better to fish with crayfish from a boat. Just submerge it where the crayfish might be. The gear is checked approximately every twenty minutes. This crayfish can be used for almost a whole year, and even catching crayfish in the fall with this tackle will be successful. The only thing is that the bait for crayfish should be different, and which one we will tell later.

Closed crayfish

Closed crustaceans are very catchy and sometimes they are called night or crustacean houses. It is much more convenient to catch them, but they are more difficult to manufacture than open ones. Often they are made so that they can fold. The main advantage of such crayfish is that they do not need to be constantly checked. During the night, they need to be removed and checked no more than two or three times, or you can even leave them until dawn.

There are many designs of night crayfish. The simplest ones are made from a wire frame (the sizes may be different, but we recommend the following: the diameter of the lower circle is forty to fifty centimeters, the upper twenty-five to thirty-five centimeters, the height is 15 centimeters). The net must be pulled over the frame so that a hole with a diameter of about six centimeters remains. Sometimes closed pockets are made higher up to twenty-five centimeters, at the entrance, depending on the design, one or more necks are made of wood. The inlet must be at least five centimeters in diameter. They are fastened with braces to the lower circle. Tackle with multiple necks is more catchy. And if you opted for this, then you should know that it is better to place them obliquely. This will significantly increase the catchability.

Video "Cancers climb into rakolovka"

This video shows how crayfish, smelling the bait, climb into an open crayfish.

Roughly the same principle in a slightly different type of crayfish, which are called buchi or gobies, which are crayfish with two necks. Their shape can be arbitrary, both square and cylindrical are allowed. Maximum length 70 centimeters, diameter up to twenty centimeters. They are made from a pine torch. Fastened to six circles with a wire. At the ends there are 2 necks. The diameter of the inlet is from five to seven centimeters. A door is made at the top, which is necessary for pulling out the caught crayfish and laying the bait with a pressing stick.

The main disadvantage of closed-type crayfish, in addition to the complexity of their manufacture, is their rather large size. Fishing with such tackle is carried out in one specific body of water. Rakolovy fishing in various reservoirs, prefer folding or disassembled raches.

A folding night light is made from a pair of wire circles (the diameter of the lower one is about 33 centimeters, the diameter of the upper one is about seventeen centimeters), the inlet is located in the neck with a diameter of about 6 centimeters. In this design, an additional float is tied, which keeps the tackle deployed. You need to put a sinker, a metal object or some kind of stone inside. Such a rakolovka is lifted, like all others, with the help of a rope, at the end of which a float is tied.

Collapsible vent

This tackle is arranged approximately like a butch. It is made up of 3 wire circles (20 to 25 centimeters in diameter). A net is pulled over the circles, and two necks (length 27 centimeters, entrance about six centimeters), fastened to each other with ropes. A pair of wire spacers, bifurcated at the ends, abut the outermost circles and hold them taut. Along with similar ones, tackles with several necks are also used, crayfish are more willing to go to rakolovka of this type.

How best to store crayfish

In the summer, the captured crayfish are put in a cage, the hole of which must be tied up and while you are fishing, keep in running water. If you catch crayfish at night, then they can be kept not in water, but on land, just in a basket.

In the case of long-term fishing, you need to know that in direct sunlight, crayfish quickly die, as a result of which they need to be kept in a shaded place.

In winter, crayfish keep only in water, because frost is destructive for them.

One of the best gear for catching crayfish is night crayfish, which do not need constant supervision and make it possible to simultaneously catch crayfish along with fishing.

Fishing for crayfish

After we have disassembled fishing for crayfish for crayfish, we will consider the following tackle, and here is a crayfish fishing rod. To catch crayfish with a fishing rod, you need to make a special tackle, it is very easy to make. You need to take a stick from a tree, sharpen one end and, after attaching the bait, stick it into the ground. The bait is wrapped in a fine-mesh net, cloth, even an ordinary female stocking made of nylon can do. Having found the bait, the cancer will grab it with its claws, at this moment it must be pulled out. As a rule, the crayfish clings well to its prey, but nevertheless, you need to be very careful when pulling it out of the water. If you pull it sharply, then the cancer will simply fall off the bait.

For convenience, a rather long piece of wood or string is often tied to the bait, at the end of which a float is fixed. If the bait does not sink, then you need to hang up an additional weight. The rod is periodically removed from the water to check the presence of prey and the condition of the bait.

Do-it-yourself rakolovka

Crawling crayfish is easy. It is enough to have even one crayfish, which is easy to do with your own hands. The lightest and most commonly used rakolovka is a wire ring with a diameter of about 45 centimeters, which is covered with a net. The disadvantage of this system can be considered the need to check every half hour, since crayfish, having eaten the bait, can simply scatter.

We suggest that you make a more convenient crayfish treatment, once in which the crayfish will no longer be able to get out of it.

We will need

  • fine mesh mesh;
  • a piece of wire with a diameter of about five millimeters;
  • plastic clamps;
  • nylon thread.

Manufacturing:

First we need to make a pair of metal rings. The diameter of the lower one is about 45 centimeters, the diameter of the upper one is about 17 centimeters.

We fasten the mesh to the ring with plastic clips approximately every 6 centimeters. If you cannot find plastic clips, then a nylon thread may also be suitable for fastening.

We make spacers in the amount of three pieces, from a thinner wire; electrodes with a diameter of 3 millimeters are well suited for these purposes. The spacers must be made of the same length and so that the ring having the smaller diameter is in the center at about 15 centimeters high.

If you want to make a foldable crayfish, then make one of the 3 spacers removable. The remaining 2 are attached to rings.

When the spacers are in place, tighten the sides of the frame. Next, they need to be grabbed with clamps to the upper ring.

We fasten the clamps on the upper ring every 12 millimeters. Cut off the extra pieces and our farm is ready! Now you can go to the pond and try it out by placing it in the place where the crayfish can be. Do not forget that the bait must be tied without fail.

Distribution of bait by season

Spring crayfish bait

In spring, fish meat is better suited for catching crayfish, in particular a loin or a small fish cut so that the meat exudes a smell. Of all the breeds, crucian carp and gobies are best suited.

Summer crayfish bait

Summer is the best time to catch crayfish, but you need to know that in the summer season, when water bodies abound in various foods, the best bait is meat. Crayfish smell great and go willingly on the insides, namely the liver, stomach and ears or cheeks of animals, which are very cheap at any market.

Crayfish bait in autumn and winter

In autumn and winter, when it has already become colder, the amount of food in water bodies decreases and it becomes more difficult for animals to get it, therefore, catching crayfish in October or even November can be more successful than even in the warm season. Many will be surprised, but at this time the best bait is bread with garlic. You need to proceed as follows. A piece of rye bread is taken and unpeeled garlic cloves are pressed into it, which must be wrapped in gauze or other thin cloth. Otherwise, the bread will simply turn sour and the crayfish that are in the crayfish can simply take it apart. Equally, the use of meat and fish is permissible, but preferably stale. The fish used for bait should emit a scent that attracts crayfish. To do this, the carcass is cut, and the scales are slightly cleaned off. Crayfish catching in autumn is also more profitable because at this time the price for crayfish is slightly higher than in summer. Crayfish are especially expensive in winter.

Crayfish are just as good at catching in winter with very simple tackle.

Devices are very popular not only for catching fish, but also for catching crayfish, which are a real delicacy. This article will describe in detail what a rakolovka device is, what types it can be, how to use it correctly, and much more.

.

What is racolovka

Scraper traps are a special type of trap that is very easy to use and yet very effective. Typically, these traps are made of metal hoops that are covered with a checkered mesh. There are small holes in the cells of these nets, which are intended for catching.

Crayfish can be used both for catching crayfish and for catching small fish. Such a trap is in great demand among many fishermen, since it always guarantees a high catch, unlike other devices.

All crayfish are divided into:

  • round;

  • long.

Round crayfish

These traps are the simplest and most convenient to use. As a rule, they are made from two thin metal rods in the shape of a circle and then covered with a fine mesh. At the top, these devices are tied with a rope for more convenient pulling them out of the water.

In addition to round shapes, such rakolovki can have a square shape or a cylinder shape. Both of these options are equally effective.

The advantages of round traps:

  • prey can get into the trap faster, since they are not interfered with by sharp corners;

  • catch with such traps much faster than other types of crayfish.

Disadvantages of round traps: prey can get out of the crayfish as easily as it can get into it, so the fish should be checked every fifteen minutes.

Long crayfish

Long crayfish traps are more complex than round ones. Their device consists of five or six hoops that are interconnected with a mesh. On both sides of the trap, between the location of the hoops, special doors are made through which the crayfish can get into the inside of the device. The main point is that they will no longer be able to get out of the crayfish, since the length of the net and the turns of the trap prevent the prey from orienting themselves.

The advantages of such crayfish:

  • they are very spacious and will allow you to catch a lot of crayfish and fish;

  • such traps can be safely left unchecked for several days, without fear that the prey will run away;

  • have great efficiency.

Disadvantages: They can be difficult to apply due to their more complex structure.

Choice of crayfish

When buying a crustacean, you need to pay attention to its following characteristics:

  • Materials from which the rakolovka is made. There are two main types of materials from which these devices are made: polyethylene fishing line and nylon mesh. If you are going to catch already adult crayfish, then a shellfish made of polyethylene fishing line is suitable for this, but if you want to catch young animals that still have a soft shell, then it is better to take shellfish from a nylon mesh, which cannot harm the shell of crayfish.

  • The second thing that you should definitely pay attention to is the country in which the rakolovka was carried out. For example, those crayfish made in China are of much worse quality than crayfish made in Russia.

  • The shape of the crayfish is selected depending on the number of crayfish you want to catch. A round-shaped trap with a total diameter of about forty centimeters can accommodate up to ten crustaceans in one catch. In a long trap, the diameter of which will be more than fifty centimeters in one catch, more than eighty crustaceans can fit.

  • You also need to decide how much time you can devote to this activity and, depending on this, choose a trap. Long crayfish are designed for long fishing, and round ones are for quick hunting.

  • You should also completely inspect the trap for any defects (abrasions, brittleness, rust, etc.) and before buying make sure that it holds firmly and will not break at the first catch.

How to make do-it-yourself crayfish

The first method is a closed round rakolovka

To make it you will need:

  • mesh with fine meshes;

  • wire;

  • nylon thread;

  • plastic clamps.

You need to make this trap in this way:

  1. Bend the wire into two rings. The first ring (bottom) should be fifty centimeters in diameter, and the second (top) twenty centimeters.

  2. Fasten the mesh to the rings with clamps every five centimeters.

  3. Make three wire spacers and fasten to the rings.

  4. Cover the sides of the trap with a net and secure them with clamps on the uppermost ring.

  5. Cut out two small entrances on the sides.

The trap is then ready for use.

The second method is a cone trap

It will take:

  • wire;

  • nylon thread;

  • net.

  1. Two circles of wire, which should be of different sizes, fasten with a mesh.

  2. Trim the inner area of the circles with thread.

  3. In the smaller circle, make a passage through which the cancer will make its way.

The third method is the anchor trap

Crayfish baits

Types and features of baits for catching crayfish:

  • The most commonly used bait for this purpose is fish. It is easy to prepare and can be caught in the same pond where the crayfish will be fished. The fish for the bait must be fresh, but already inanimate. A strong smell should come from it, which can attract cancer. To do this, you can make several cuts along the body of the fish and peel off some of the scales. One fish will be enough to catch cancer.

  • The bait can also be live. For example, you can catch a snail or a small shell from a pond, which you can then place in a trap.

  • A dead frog is also considered a good bait.

  • Cabbage that has already gone bad often does well.

  • Melon.

  • Rotten meat.

  • White bread with garlic can be used as bait for crayfish, since garlic has a pronounced smell that will attract crayfish from afar, and the bread will serve as a filler for this bait.

The bait for catching crayfish, in addition to its choice, must also be properly prepared and attached to the trap:

How to fish with crayfish

The process of catching crayfish is as follows:

  1. Place the trap in the water. It is better to do this from a boat, since the banks of reservoirs are often heavily overgrown with algae and reeds, which greatly complicates the whole process of fishing.

  2. In order to later easily find the place into which the trap was lowered, a piece of foam or other floating material must be tied to the crayfish rope. If such material is not at hand, then you can simply tie the crayfish to an ordinary snag or a stick, which then attach somewhere on the shore in a place noticeable to you.

  3. If you have more than one trap, you need to set them about fifteen meters apart, otherwise the catch may be poor.

  4. A round crayfish should be placed in an upright position on the very plane of the bottom, and not on a cliff or on snags, since it will be difficult for a crayfish to climb over such obstacles.

  5. A round trap needs to be checked frequently, while a long trap can be checked two or three times a day. It is important to know that pulling the crayfish is better against the stream.

  6. When the crayfish is full, the catch must be poured into a separate net, which closes tightly. To prevent the crayfish from escaping. It is advisable that the crayfish net be placed in a bucket of water.

  7. After fishing, the traps must be removed from the water, inspected for dirt, washed and dried.

Blitz Tips

  1. For fishermen who are just starting to catch crayfish, it is better to purchase a round or square trap, since it will not only be much cheaper than a more professional long trap, but it will also provide guaranteed ease of use. In addition, the small round crayfish does not need frequent checks, which cannot be said in the long trap.

  2. The selection and installation of the bait must be taken very seriously, since not only the quality of the catch, but also its quantity depends on it. The bait in the trap should be enough to keep the cancer from leaving the trap for as long as possible.

  3. Any bait should give off a strong aroma, otherwise, the cancer will not pay attention to it.

  4. Long crayfish are best used in conjunction with weights that lower the crayfish to the bottom and help crayfish get into the trap more easily.

  5. The bait must be tied to the bottom of the trap so that it cannot float up and attract the attention of prey well.

  6. Before buying very expensive and complex crayfish, it is recommended to study their work in detail using the Internet. In order for complex traps to be as effective as possible, they should be installed on a flat bottom surface and use weights.
