Liquid wallpaper technical characteristics. Types of liquid wallpaper - from paper to silk

Description and features of liquid wallpaper

Opinion about liquid wallpaper divided. Some call them a mixture, which combines paper wallpaper with the properties of plaster. Others consider them as finishing plaster. One thing is clear that liquid wallpaper of a different texture has its own requirements when applied to the surface.

They can only be used for interior decoration. If in the bedroom, living room, corridor, children's room, paper wallpaper looks original, then it is undesirable for the kitchen, bathroom. This is due to excessive moisture and a high risk of contamination.

The decorative coating resembles stone, felt and is used for walls and ceilings. On photo liquid wallpaper you can consider how you can play with the density and colors of the material.

The material looks original with the addition of sparkles in the bedroom and living room. In the evening and in the sun, they cause a gentle shimmer. A wall highlighted in a different color, for example, at the head of the bed, opposite the upholstered furniture, gives a special charm. You can play with the heterogeneity of the texture.

Additives in the form of flock and granules create a three-dimensional picture when it is necessary to visually expand the room. The second option is the right choice. colors of liquid wallpaper.

Light colors will visually increase the space in a small room. Each color comes with a warm or cold shade. The northern part will be softened by warm tones, the southern - by cold ones.

The children's room was created for the use of liquid wallpaper. The main thing is that they are safe for health, do not collect dust and the flight of imagination is immense here. Children love to paint on the walls.

The long corridor is divided into zones, visually reducing the space.

Types of liquid wallpaper

According to its composition, liquid wallpaper is divided into three groups: silk, cotton, cellulose.

Silk liquid wallpaper. The main component is silk thread. Its content varies from 50 to 100%. The mixture is sold in powder or liquid state and belongs to the premium class.

The application surface can be concrete, plasterboard. Proper preparation of the walls before use and adherence to technology will allow the material to serve for a long time without losing its properties, its original appearance. The interior with silk pile looks stylish and luxurious.

Cotton Liquid Wallpaper. Cotton is taken as a basis in liquid wallpaper. Its constituent 99%, only 1% additives in the form of mica and a binder. An interior with such material creates a warm atmosphere and coziness. In the price segment, it is in second place after silk.

Cellulose liquid wallpaper.A budget option is cellulose liquid wallpaper, where the main component is wood processing products. The material has shown itself well when decorating non-residential, cold rooms. It is ideal for surfaces with micro-cracks.

By consistency, wallpaper can be of two types:

- liquid;

- powder.

The first type is perfect for beginners when the product is ready to eat.The second version of the wallpaper is diluted with water and infused for several hours.

Both types are applied with a plastic spatula or with a spray gun.The structure of the wallpaper can be smooth or embossed. If we talk about consumption, then in the second case it will be higher.

Pros and cons of liquid wallpaper

How to apply liquid wallpaper

Before starting work, you should decide on consumption of liquid wallpaper. Each company writes instructions on the packaging. It is enough to calculate the area and multiply by the suggested value per pack.

If the consumption on the package is written for 4-5 sq. m. With an area of 20 sq. m, you need to purchase 5 packages. It is worth considering in what way the wallpaper will be applied. A spatula or roller has a higher flow rate than a spray gun. In the second option, the consumption of 1 pack will already be 6-7 sq. m.

Before how to apply liquid wallpaper, you need to prepare the walls:

- clean from the remnants of wallpaper, paint, plaster, greasy stains;

- level the walls with putty. It is desirable that the liquid wallpaper lay down in an even layer;

- walk with a deep penetration primer 2-3 times;

- according to the instructions, soak the dry mixture and stand until it swells. Stir the mixture by hand. The structure can be disturbed by a mixer. One batch should be enough for an entire wall. The mixture is mixed again before use;

- apply the solution from top to bottom with a plastic trowel, starting from the corner. For better sliding on the surface, moisten the grater with water;

- dry the wallpaper for two days. To do this, you can open the doors, and arrange a draft. Do not be afraid that stains will appear during the drying process. The reason lies in uneven drying;

- for application pattern liquid wallpaper a template is being prepared;

- first, the outline of the drawing is plastered;

- after the contour is dry, the template is removed and a mixture of a different color is applied. Glue masking tape along the contour;

- the clarity of the contours is guided by a marker after complete drying.

In order for the drawing to harmoniously fit into the design of the room, you must adhere to some requirements. Drawings are good for open spaces with a minimum amount of furniture.

It is undesirable to combine various types of finishes when working with a pattern, only liquid wallpapers of various colors. If you need to make a three-dimensional drawing, then you should not press hard with a spatula and level the canvas.

Pictures of bright, contrasting colors look good in large rooms. With a minimal area, choose calm tones with discreet ornaments. A pattern with vertical stripes visually raises the ceiling in the room, horizontal stripes will expand the space.

In a classic style, stick to laconic designs with contrasting or calm tones. The antique style requires additives in the form of sparkles, blotches. Paints in the kitchen should be varnished to protect them from contamination.

When planning to engage in repairs, it is first of all important to draw up an action plan, and for this, you need to know what you want to see after the repair? Modern building supermarkets offer such a huge variety of building and finishing materials that it is not easy to choose from this range. How to be? The solution is simple - go to the stands with samples, they clearly show the final appearance of each material - this will greatly simplify the choice.

If we talk about finishing materials, now the choice is wide and available to everyone. Firstly, in terms of prices, and secondly, in terms of ease of use. Many modern materials are how easy it is to apply, that you can simply reduce the cost of repairs by doing it yourself, even without having the rudiments of a veneer, but simply with a grain of imagination, minimal diligence and a desire to make your home attractive.

One of these materials is the liquid wallpaper... Not very long ago it was a rare novelty in our country, you could see them only abroad, in hotels or restaurants. Over time, this product also hit the domestic market, but its prices were too high due to its unusual appearance and rarity.

But today, no one is particularly surprised with liquid wallpaper, of course, the price for them has decreased, but this is not the cheapest finishing option. But at the same time, they look interesting, they are able to decorate the interior, and most importantly, they are easy to work with! Let's take a closer look at them.

First, what do they look like? After all, this is important. The appearance of liquid wallpaper is of several types: it can look like paper wallpaper with a relief pattern, it can be fuzzy or similar to the structure of a fabric. The color range of this material is literally not limited by anything except a flight of imagination! They can be bought already in color, can be tinted, can be mixed, getting absolutely stunning and individual colors.

Liquid wallpaper is produced from safe components. The main ones are cotton and cellulose, sometimes fibers of polyester components or lavsan can be added. Of course, additives are additionally present - a binder, if necessary, dyes and decorative elements.

Flock or thread additives can act as a decor - there are silk, wool, synthetics from threads - each type of material gives the finished mixture a completely different look. Wool gives a more fleecy surface, silk - shiny and smooth, synthetics can give a lot of different effects, depending on the type and properties of the material.

Wallpaper properties directly follow from their composition. Since they are made from cotton and cellulose, they:

  1. They have an excellent anti-static effect. Small specks, dust and other dirt will not stick to them.
  2. Excellent sound absorption. Of course, this largely depends on the material from which the walls are made, but liquid wallpaper is quite noiseless, especially when compared with other, less loose finishing materials.
  3. They are able to strengthen the thermal insulation of the room. Naturally, you cannot warm a room with wallpaper alone, but when combined with liquid wallpaper, it rises significantly. This is especially important for those who have small children or those who are thermophilic themselves and are afraid of the cold.
  4. Absorbent properties. It is clear to everyone that both cotton and cellulose absorb moisture perfectly. Accordingly, the liquid wallpaper that is made of them has the same property. This material is able to regulate the level of humidity in the room, absorbing the excess, and, moreover, without any damage to the appearance.

Benefits of liquid wallpaper

As you can see, the material is interesting and has a number of advantages. Which ones?

  1. They look beautiful. They are able to decorate the interior, they can be perfectly combined with other finishing materials, if not used in continuous application, they can be easily combined.
  2. Easy to recover. If you suddenly ruin an area with liquid wallpaper, there will be a stain or a dent - it will be easy to fix it, even on your own! Liquid wallpaper can be soaked with plain water and removed with a sharp spatula. And then, mask this area with a new portion of liquid wallpaper. After drying, there will be no differences on the surface! It is only important to take the same wallpaper that was applied earlier, and not others - otherwise, the different colors, at least, cannot be avoided.
  3. Long-term storage is possible. Dry - naturally, but diluted - wallpaper can stand as long as needed, the only nuance that needs to be taken care of is a sealed container, closed, and hidden from exposure to ultraviolet radiation. If the wallpaper has dried up, you can dilute it with water again and it will be ready for use.
  4. There is no need to clean the walls to match the wallpaper. It is with paper wallpaper that any surface imperfections are visible, but with liquid wallpaper, they will not. Due to their texture, they are able to hide small grooves, cracks and similar imperfections.
  5. Heat insulation and sound insulation- this has already been mentioned above.
  6. Dust repellent. If you want to be able to carry out wet cleaning in rooms with liquid wallpaper, then it would be more correct to cover them with a protective water-based varnish.
  7. Duration of operation. Liquid wallpaper will not lose its appearance for about fifteen years - this is a decent lifespan for interior decoration. They are not subject to temperature changes, which means they will not fall off the wall, as is the case with their paper counterparts.
  8. Easy to install. An important factor, since even a master who has never held a spatula in his hands can apply liquid wallpaper. A couple of small workouts to adjust and you are quite capable of doing DIY repairs! Perhaps, liquid wallpaper is one of the easiest materials to apply.

Disadvantages of liquid wallpaper

In a word, the product has quite a few advantages, they are all significant and make you think about buying. But there are no ideal products, so naturally this material also has its drawbacks. See which ones:

  1. Low moisture resistance. As you already understood, the wallpaper absorbs moisture well, but if it flows endlessly, then by itself, it begins to accumulate in the coating and destroy it. Since liquid wallpaper is diluted with water, an excess of it, respectively, is harmful to them. You can correct this drawback by using a special wall covering with liquid wallpaper with acrylic varnish or primer.
  2. They can pull stains (especially greasy ones) from the walls. Yes, the preparation of the walls is not needed if they just have irregularities or roughness, however, if they are dirty, then they must be cleaned or putty, otherwise, the dirt, all or part of it, may end up on the newly finished walls. In principle, this can also be dealt with by pre-treating the contaminated surfaces.
  3. Quite high cost. Of course, manufacturers are trying to reduce the cost of their products, there are also available liquid wallpaper, here everything will depend on the composition and size of the cut of the material - coarsely cut wallpaper will cost less, but also have a less neat appearance.

Summing up all the properties of liquid wallpaper, it can be argued that this material is safe for health, convenient, beautiful and easy to use. And even the existing shortcomings are not so significant as to cover these undoubted advantages.

Types of liquid wallpaper

Many consumers, especially those who have just begun to take an interest in finishing materials, confuse liquid wallpaper with decorative plaster. Often they do have some visual similarity, however, their structure and composition are completely different. , as a rule, is made on the basis of a sand mixture, while liquid wallpaper is most often made on the basis of cotton.

In addition to this material, the composition of the wallpaper mixture may also include polyester, silk threads, cellulose, pearlescent particles, special decorative additives and dyes. If we subdivide the wallpaper by type, then roughly there are only two of them:

  • with silk and
  • with cellulose

There is also a mixed type on sale: silk-cellulose. All types have their own advantages and when choosing which ones to buy, you need to take into account all their advantages and disadvantages. Let's take a closer look at what it is.

Cellulose Liquid Wallpaper

They are made on the basis of cellulose fibers formed during the processing of wood. This, in essence, is paper, however, you should not even try to compare the liquid form of wallpaper with paper - these are completely different things!

The composition of liquid wallpaper, in addition to cellulose itself, includes cotton, mica, pearlescent additives, gypsum, glue - all these components form the desired consistency of the mixture for processing the desired surface.

This type of wallpaper has a number of advantages, the main one of which flows smoothly from the base of the mixture. Since both cotton and cellulose have excellent thermal insulation properties, cellulose liquid wallpaper retains heat very well in a room. They can be used even in unheated buildings and walls finished with this material will not get too cold.

This advantage is especially important if, for example, it is planned to decorate a children's room or to save energy resources. Walls covered with cellulose liquid wallpaper will always remain warm to the touch, it is pleasant to touch them.

Cellulosic wallpapers can be textured or almost uniform in texture. It depends on the size of the cellulose fiber fraction from which they are made. If the fraction is large, then the wallpaper can be visually similar to a cotton-paper surface, it is soft, slightly fluffy, and has pleasant tactile properties.

In the presence of a fine fraction, the structure of the wallpaper will be more uniform, it will not look so voluminous on the wall, but there are advantages here too: it is easier to clean such wallpaper from dust, and it is more resistant to dirt.

Can cellulose liquid wallpaper be used in a damp room?

  • Cellulose based wallpaper

Of course, they are not intended for use in damp rooms. Everyone knows that paper perfectly absorbs any liquid, which means that in such conditions the wallpaper will not last long.

In some way, additional coating with acrylic varnish is able to help here, but there is also a nuance here:

  1. firstly, it is rather difficult to cover the textured surface with varnish without gaps, so that it falls on all parts of the coating,
  2. secondly, even if it is possible to make such an ideal coating, it is very easy to damage it in normal living conditions, which means that areas that are not protected from moisture will remain.

In addition, acrylic lacquer, although it looks completely invisible, can distort the appearance of the cotton-paper texture if the cellulose wallpaper is based on a coarse fraction of the constituent.

The additional coating will protect the wallpaper from moisture absorption, but completely ruin its main attraction: its fluffy and soft appearance.

From the above, it is easy to conclude: for rooms where there is still a possibility of evaporation or humidity may increase, when choosing liquid wallpaper, it is better to give preference not to the embossed, but to their smooth variety. It is much easier to open such a finish with a protective varnish, it will not spoil its appearance, and the overall design idea of the room will not suffer.

  • Pulp and silk wallpaper,

They differ little in their properties from purely cellulosic ones. The fact is that they have one basis, only they come with a greater or lesser addition of cut silk threads. In this case, silk will perform a purely decorative function, and does not bear the main load on the properties of the material. In a mixed type of liquid wallpaper, silk threads give an external effect to the texture - the shine and texture inherent in the fabric, but cellulose, being the basis of the mixture, still mainly determines its performance.

The main advantage of cellulose and cellulose-silk wallpapers, of course, is their low cost. Cotton and cellulose are environmentally friendly and not expensive materials, therefore, these types of liquid wallpaper are completely affordable, moreover, some craftsmen make them even on their own at home from improvised means, reducing the cost of the material to a minimum.

The main disadvantage of the cellulose type liquid wallpaper

The main disadvantage of the cellulose type of liquid wallpaper, however, like the cellulose-silk wallpaper, is its low wear resistance. The coating is exposed to moisture, gets dirty easily and can collect dust - especially for families with small children and pets. This type of wallpaper will be appropriate in rooms with low operational load, or, for example, in offices - where there is a constant microclimate and temperature and there is no great danger of contamination.

In general, the balance between price and quality is absolutely justified here. These types of materials are not expensive, but not particularly durable, respectively, choosing cellulose liquid wallpaper you get a beautiful, stylish and warm finish, and how long it will last you will depend solely on how carefully you use it.

Cellulosic liquid wallpaper, however, continues to be in demand as it is an economical and attractive finish. It is used in apartments, hallways, living rooms, bedrooms, offices and public spaces. They are easy to apply, allow for repair or replacement of a damaged area, and are fairly easy to remove.

They got their name from the main constituent material - silk fiber. They are made on the basis of natural or artificial silk threads - they have a different texture, they can be smoother or more embossed, depending on what kind of silk they were made of. Basically, silk liquid wallpaper consists of at least half of silk, but there are manufacturers who also make 100% silk material - of course, their price is very high, since silk fiber is not a cheap pleasure at all.

The first feature of this type of liquid wallpaper is its appearance. The coating looks spectacular, expensive and can beautify any interior. Such wallpaper can be used not only as an independent covering - since it is not a cheap pleasure, but also as a finish for another type of covering.

They can be combined and combined with other materials - the main thing here is to add imagination and a little creativity. Silk, in itself a very attractive material, is not for nothing that it has been used for interior decoration since ancient times. Silk fiber makes the wallpaper visually similar to natural fabric, has a satin sheen and velvety feel that you can easily feel with your fingers.

A wide variety of visual effects can be formed from them, providing maximum resemblance to the rich decoration of the golden times. Modern technologies make it possible to make silk wallpaper colored, pearlescent, pearl, complemented with various glitters and sparkles.

Silk coating, in contrast to cellulose, is not so hygroscopic, after complete drying, these wallpapers hardly absorb moisture, but nevertheless, they have excellent vapor permeability - they are able to provide breathable walls and an optimal microclimate in the room.

But they have heat and sound insulation no worse than cellulose ones! They are also good at retaining heat and poorly transmitting sounds. Liquid wallpaper based on silk fibers is not afraid of temperature changes, even significant ones - they can be used in poorly or even unheated rooms.

An important advantage of silk, as a material in itself, and, accordingly, wallpaper based on it, is its low susceptibility to ultraviolet radiation. This finish does not fade in the sun or under uneven lighting of the interior - the finish will remain in its original form for many years. Therefore, it is convenient to use silk wallpaper, even in dark or bright shades - they are not afraid of any atmospheric drops.

As for ease of use, there is not much difference here: both silk and cellulose liquid wallpapers are easy to apply and can be used even by novice specialists.

Of course, silk-based materials are luxury and few people dare to finish them on their own for fear of spoiling the presentation.

In addition, if the cellulosic type of finishing is often made in artisanal conditions, perfectly imitating industrial production, then this technique is definitely not applicable with silk wallpaper - since it simply does not make sense to replace silk with something else.

Silk wallpaper also allows you to carry out repairs or partial replacement of an already finished coating. You can remove a contaminated or simply unnecessary area and replace it with the same wallpaper - no joints or traces of repair will be noticeable.

The durability of silk liquid wallpaper should also be noted - it cannot even be compared with cellulose, since this type of wallpaper is resistant to dirt, ultraviolet light, and can be gently cleaned, for example, with a vacuum cleaner or a brush.

A wonderful feature of this material is the antistatic effect inherent in silk - they are capable of not attracting dust to themselves, and thus will not often need to be cleaned. Such wallpapers can be used both in a children's room and in public places, in principle, there are no particular restrictions on their use, except perhaps in rooms with high humidity or completely damp.

The main disadvantage, if you can call it that, will probably still be the high cost of silk wallpaper. Yes, they are not available to every consumer, but it should be borne in mind that the luxurious appearance, excellent strength characteristics and durability are well worth the price.

Comparison of these two types is not very appropriate, since of the common characteristics they have only the production method and application technology. A completely different composition determines and completely different properties. And although environmentally friendly materials are used for the production of any type of liquid wallpaper, their appearance and operating conditions are completely different.

Liquid wallpaper manufacturers

Of course, liquid wallpaper is not the kind of finishing material that is presented on the market in a huge assortment, but still there is a pretty decent choice.

  1. Silk Plaster- the largest manufacturer of liquid wallpaper in Russia, has an extensive dealer network around the world. The plant has been operating since 1997, and its products are certified in many countries, including European ones. Liquid wallpaper of this brand is made from environmentally friendly raw materials according to the latest, safe technologies. Here you will find a really huge selection of textures and shades, since the designers of the manufacturer have developed quite a few collections for every taste and wallet.
  2. Bioplast- a well-known Ukrainian manufacturer of liquid wallpaper, is also ready to present a good selection of wallpapers at average prices. These materials are easy to use, economical in consumption and are often in demand by customers.
  3. Leroy Marlene- a famous French brand, produces liquid wallpaper of excellent quality. They are known for the fact that even after complete drying, their wallpaper remains elastic and can easily withstand the shrinkage of buildings and similar tests. Despite the big name and prestige of the brand, you can also find various price categories in the assortment of this manufacturer.
  4. POLDECOR- a manufacturer from Poland, widely represented on the shelves of building supermarkets and perfectly combines not too high prices and good quality.
  5. SILKCOAT- the Japanese quality of liquid wallpaper will speak for itself. Liquid wallpaper of this brand has firmly established itself in terms of high quality and corresponding price.
  6. BAYRAMIX KOZA- a more budget option. These liquid wallpapers are produced in Turkey, they can last a long time, and the price for them is amazingly democratic.
  7. Senideco- the highest quality achieved by hard work and strict adherence to European technologies for the production of liquid wallpaper. This French manufacturer is one of the founders of liquid wallpaper production. It is also one of the most expensive brands, however, the price of the product is 100% justified by the quality.
  8. "Like this" Is another Russian brand known for its maximum availability. Liquid wallpaper of this trade mark will be affordable for every consumer.

Liquid wallpaper is an environmentally friendly type of decoration, since chemically hazardous or aggressive substances are not used in their production. Therefore, in fact, there are contraindications in use here only because of the properties of the material itself. It is just one thing: this type of finish is not recommended for rooms with high humidity: bathrooms, kitchens, swimming pools, and the like.

Otherwise, liquid wallpaper can decorate the interior of any room, be it a living room, bedroom, nursery or study. Often, due to the high cost of this material, it is not used for continuous coverage, but only some parts of the room are isolated with its help: arches, columns, inserts.

Liquid wallpaper is a versatile material in terms of application, so they are equally often used both for wall coverings and for ceilings, arches - in a word, anything.

If we talk about a uniform coating with liquid wallpaper, then here it is also interesting to beat the design of the room. For example, combine several shades of wallpaper that are in harmony in color or, conversely, contrasting.

You can use one main background for the walls and ceiling, and with the other, darker or brighter to highlight the baguettes or make frames. In the vastness of the worldwide network, there are many photos with design options, and if you also connect your imagination, then an absolutely unique, spectacular, and most importantly, completely your personal style will come out.

Surfaces for applying liquid wallpaper

As a matter of fact, there are no restrictions here, in other words - for any. The only condition is correct pre-processing.

  1. Concrete, cement or clay plaster. If these are concrete, cement or clay plasters, then such surfaces must first be putty. To do this, you can use a finishing putty - ready-made or in a dry mix - it doesn't matter. After it has completely dried, the surfaces must be primed and wallpaper applied.
  2. Drywall... If you plan to decorate drywall with liquid wallpaper, then the technology here will be similar: first apply a primer, then putty with a thin layer - nothing needs to be leveled, then again a layer of acrylic primer and the surface is ready for wallpaper.
  3. Wooden or metal surfaces. If it becomes necessary to apply wallpaper to wooden or metal surfaces, then they must first be opened with alkyd paint, for example PF-115, in order to avoid damage or corrosion of these materials from the water base of liquid wallpaper.

All these preparatory measures are needed only in order to protect the walls from damage and give them a clean look - especially for cement and clay plasters. If you apply liquid wallpaper immediately to them, then, firstly, they can significantly change their color, and secondly, get dirty from clay or cement and lose their appearance. Separately, it should be noted that the correct choice of primer is important.

Usually, an acrylic primer is used under liquid wallpaper - it is applied both to the surface before puttingty, and then, before applying the wallpaper itself. The main feature of the primer is that it must be transparent or white. This is important, again because of the possibility that the wallpaper can change color after application.

There is no need to specifically level the surface before applying the wallpaper, since they are bulky enough to hide minor irregularities or imperfections.

Liquid wallpaper in the interior

Where is the best place to buy liquid wallpaper?

Liquid wallpaper is sold in hardware stores, of course, the larger the point, the more manufacturers are represented in it, and the wider the choice of the wallpaper itself, small shops with a small turnover of funds sometimes cannot afford such a product at all. It is most convenient to look for liquid wallpaper in large construction hypermarkets, as well as in online stores. In the network you can also find the official websites of manufacturers - there the purchase will be the most favorable at a price, of course.

Type of packaging for liquid wallpaper - dry mix in bags or sacks. Packing can vary in weight, therefore, depending on the required amount, you can choose a convenient one specifically for your needs, weight.

1. - the process is quite lengthy. This is due to the fact that wallpaper is sold dry and must be soaked to a certain consistency. It is not difficult to do this: into any plastic dish, it can be a bucket or a bowl, which will be more convenient for you, pour out the contents of the package with liquid wallpaper and fill it with warm water.

The amount of water is always indicated on the package - and it must be strictly observed in order to obtain exactly the desired density of the finished mixture. It is also important to monitor the temperature of the water used for the wallpaper, it should be warm, but not hot, about 45 degrees.

After adding warm water to the dry mixture, stir it well. This should be done carefully, carefully and slowly.

It is not recommended to use a construction mixer for these purposes, as mixing too quickly will inevitably damage the coarse fractions of the dry mix, and this will lead to a violation of the final appearance of the finished coating.

The mixed consistency must be covered with a lid or foil, so as to prevent evaporation of water. Allow at least eight hours for soaking, and more can be.

In a soaked form, liquid wallpaper can be stored for up to five days, and during this time they will not lose their adhesive or other properties.

Immediately before use, ready-made liquid wallpaper must be gently mixed, achieving a uniform consistency. The finished mass is viscous and plastic, it has a sticky structure of medium density.

2. Application of liquid wallpaper. First of all, it should be noted that the process of applying liquid wallpaper is quite simple and within the power of any novice specialist, even one who has never done it before. Roughly speaking, the point of treating a surface with wallpaper is to apply it and distribute it evenly over the entire surface.

For application, take a medium or wide spatula, or you can use a plastic float. Here you can choose a tool, it is advisable for everyone to your taste and evaluate the convenience of each of them yourself. The main task of the master is to get approximately the same layer of finishing material on the surface. Correctly distribute the wallpaper in a straight line, in any direction, trying to ensure the same pressure on the tool. It doesn't matter if you move it in the same direction, but beware of making circular movements, as such a step can ruin the texture of the finished wallpaper.

The thickness of the wet layer immediately after application should, on average, be about two millimeters, if you make the layer thinner, bald spots may appear after drying, if it is too thick, then there may be problems with alignment on the surface. A thicker layer can be justified if there are level differences of more than two millimeters on the wall being treated. During the drying process of the wet solution, the wallpaper shrinks along the wall, and the layer becomes thinner - this circumstance should be taken into account when applying the product.

In the process of work, you need to be careful and try to distribute the wallpaper in approximately the same movements, adjusting the pressure. At the end of each stretching motion, the trowel or spatula should come off the surface to which the wallpaper is applied.

It is important to observe one more condition: one continuous surface must be treated with one mixed portion of liquid wallpaper. This will maintain the same texture pattern and shade throughout the surface from one corner to the other.

If there is an urgent need to interrupt the work in the middle of the wall, then starting to apply liquid wallpaper the next time, you will need to soak the free edge of the applied wallpaper with water - in this case, it will be possible to maintain the similarity of color and texture.

In the process of distributing liquid wallpaper, it is useful to ventilate the room - the air currents perfectly contribute to the evaporation of moisture from the mixture and its speedy drying. If the ventilation process is difficult, then it is possible to use fans with warm air - they can be directed directly to the freshly processed surface.

You can apply liquid wallpaper in one layer or layering several layers of different colors - this will give an unusual texture and original design.

How to restore a damaged or stained area of liquid wallpaper?

Liquid wallpaper belongs to such materials that can be easily restored. For example, if you need to restore a damaged or stained area, it is not difficult to do this. It is enough to clean it well of old wallpaper - for example, with a small spatula, completely removing the unwanted object, and also slightly going onto a normal surface, creating a small margin.

Then moisten the edges of the wallpaper already on the wall with plenty of clean water and wait a little until they are soaked. The degree of readiness for application will be visually visible. Now you can apply the desired dose of the new liquid wallpaper, carefully comparing the edges with the old layer.

Naturally, for such a repair, you need to take exactly the same wallpaper that was already applied on the wall, otherwise they will have a strong visual difference and all the work will go down the drain.

Care and removal of liquid wallpaper

In everyday life, this material is rather unpretentious. Of course, they have the ability to collect dust on themselves - this is inevitable, since the wallpaper has a fluffy, loose texture. But dealing with this circumstance is easy.

The easiest thing to do is just clean the walls with a dry broom or a regular vacuum cleaner. Traditional wallpapers, to which everyone is already accustomed, are paper, sold in rolls and require gluing. According to the designers, the liquid wallpaper combines the best properties of their rolled "brothers", decorative plaster and paint and varnish coatings.

An example of the consumption of one package of liquid wallpaper.

Liquid wallpaper is a mixture of cellulose, cotton fibers, glue and high-quality natural dyes. They should not be confused with ordinary plaster, because unlike its composition based on sand, the main component of such wallpaper is cellulose, which is considered a harmless natural adhesive. When deciding to choose liquid wallpaper for your home, you will purchase it in boxes (or plastic bags), which will contain a powdery dry mixture. They resemble flakes of different colors and sizes, in which various additives are present. Usually they are packaged in 1 kg. Before using this substance for its intended purpose, you will need to dilute it with water. Carefully read the instructions, which will indicate all the necessary proportions (the numbers may depend on the manufacturer or other characteristics).

This finishing material is notable for its versatility: it can be used to decorate any living space, cafe, restaurant or office, even a bathroom or staircase, if you want to create comfort there.

Although they are considered moisture resistant and are able to regulate the level of humidity in the room, nevertheless, when finishing, for example, a bathroom, you need to make sure that no water gets on them. Otherwise, they may get wet.

If you decide to cover batteries, pipes or other metal surfaces with them, then it is worth doing a rust treatment before that, so that soon the appearance will not be spoiled by emerging rust spots. Liquid wallpaper also requires more application time than roll wallpaper.

To add a sophisticated charm or solemnity to the room, opt for liquid wallpaper, which contains fine threads of silver or gold.

If you want to create a drawing, multi-colored panel or stucco on the ceiling or walls, you should use a material that will have a very thick consistency. If you want to get a semblance of fabric wallpaper or drapery, add decorative straws, textiles, mineral sequins to the wallpaper mixture. By doing this, you can also increase their level of thermal insulation.

Manual work is considered the best option. It is recommended to apply wallpaper with a plastic float, spatula or paint roller. There are also options for application with a spray or a gun with a compressor. Remember: water must be poured into the dry mixture in portions, because if you pour it into the water, the batch will not work. It is better to knead with your hands until you reach the thickness of sour cream. Make sure that the overall temperature in the room where you will work is at least 10 ° C.

Prepare the walls thoroughly before applying: clean them from fungal stains, old surfaces, wash, treat with an antiseptic, dry. It is also recommended to treat the surface with a primer. It is worth applying the wallpaper in an even layer, gradually leveling it. With the help of special rollers or spatulas, you can create relief, and stencils will help you to depict original drawings on the walls. Then you should let the material dry well.

If, after the end of the work, you still have a certain amount of solution, then you can save it for subsequent cosmetic repair of damaged surface areas. To do this, you need to place it in a container that will close tightly and put it in the refrigerator.

Liquid wallpaper is quite unpretentious to maintain. You can vacuum them, wipe them with a rag. Just do not use cleaning agents or hard brushes to avoid damaging the surface. If you need to wet clean and wash the wallpaper, then you should cover them with transparent varnish. However, then the "breathing" effect of the material may disappear.

  • mineral crumbs;
  • mica.

You can classify liquid wallpapers by dividing them into:

  • silk;
  • cotton;
  • silk-cellulose;
  • cellulosic.

The composition of liquid wallpaper can only provide for the presence in this case, the material is the most durable, because it is resistant to ultraviolet light. The formed layer does not fade, retains its original appearance and color for many years. As for silk-cellulose and cellulose wallpapers, they are cheaper than silk wallpapers, but they are ready to last not so long. In addition, they differ in decorative qualities from silk liquid wallpaper.

If you are interested in the composition of liquid wallpaper, then you should know that the finished material usually consists of fibers, which are processed with glue during the production process. Modifying agents and plasticizers are added to the ingredients. Sometimes the composition is colored in a certain shade, but you can purchase a mixture of neutral white.

Composition of self-prepared liquid wallpaper

Quite often, liquid wallpaper is prepared at home, in which case you will determine their composition yourself. The decorative layer can be based on any paper. Water, PVA glue and dyes of the desired color are added to it. Additives can be:

  • dried algae;
  • shredded wood;
  • small sequins;
  • mica powder;
  • granite chips;
  • pieces of yarn;
  • quartz and other stone.

If the composition of liquid wallpaper provides for the presence of paper, then for this you can use old books and newspapers, printed sheets, household scraps and packaging wrappers. If you decide to color the mixture, then you can use several colors at once. When preparing the composition of paper-based liquid wallpaper, you can additionally use Bustilat glue, acrylic plaster or gypsum.

It is necessary to make the base in stages. A dye is poured into the finished mixture, after which the composition is left for a while to infuse, only then the selected additives can be added. The paper should be well shredded. It is placed in a container, filled with water and left for up to 4 hours. For 1 kg of paper, you will need about 5 liters of water.

As soon as the time has passed, which will be enough to soak the paper, it is stirred with an electric drill, on which it is necessary to put on a nozzle in the form of a mixer. You must achieve a homogeneous mass. At the next stage, glue and dye are added to the mixture, after which you can continue mixing. The mixture is placed in a large plastic bag and left for 14 hours. Then the composition can be mixed by hand. Before applying to the wall, gypsum is added to the liquid wallpaper, and then everything is mixed until smooth.

Composition of wallpaper based on fibrous materials

The composition of liquid wallpaper may provide for the presence of fibrous materials, in this case, you should stock up on components, including cellulose or cotton fiber. Insulation "Ekovata" or ordinary cotton wool can be used as this material. There should be a lot of material.

If you plan to use regular cotton wool, then it will have to be crushed well. The operation can be carried out manually, it can be done with scissors or a special construction similar to a mixer. The capacity can be a bucket into which the material is laid. The container is closed with a lid with a hole for the mixer shaft, otherwise the cotton wool will fly to the sides during grinding. The cover can be made of thick cardboard. The main material, in addition to cellulose and cotton wool, can be linen fiber, synthetic winterizer, wool or polyester. These materials are easy to grind.

Ingredient composition of wallpaper from threads

Quite often, consumers are interested in the question of what the composition of this finishing material can be made by you. Another option for making the described finish can be threads from different materials, namely:

  • cotton;
  • wool;
  • synthetics;
  • a mixture of several components.

Quite often, needlewomen have unnecessary yarn in their arsenal. Alternatively, you can dissolve old jackets and sweaters. The threads are well chopped; this can be done with a sharp ax or scissors. However, you should additionally stock up on a wooden base. Different adhesives can act as a bonding component, namely:

  • casein glue;
  • Bustilat.

Sometimes acrylic-based putty is used. But the latter has a specific smell, in addition, it will have to be additionally diluted with water. Wallpaper on acrylic putty will be the most resistant to deformation and abrasion.

Silk Plaster wallpaper composition

Consumers are sometimes interested in the composition of the Silk Plaster liquid wallpaper. This material is made from natural cellulose, decorative threads, quartz mica, and flock. Sometimes other harmless fillers are used in the production process. A cellulose-based glue, which is analogous to CMC, acts as a binder.

All components are of natural origin and are harmless. If you are interested in the question of what is included in the liquid wallpaper from the manufacturer "Silk Plaster", then you should know that this mixture is environmentally friendly, which is confirmed by Sanitary and Epidemiological Supervision certificates. You can use a similar decorative composition for indoor surfaces.

Composition of wallpaper made of fibers and sawdust

Quite often, wood fibers are used in the production of the described decorative material. With the help of such a coating, it is possible to achieve the formation of a layer that will have sound and heat insulation properties. The surface does not lose its ability to breathe, does not become moldy and is cheap. The components are characterized by environmental friendliness, as well as aesthetics and decorativeness.

The composition of liquid wallpaper made of sawdust with fibers contains antiseptic substances and binding components in the form of glue. Dyes are used as decorative components. To make the composition, you will need sawdust and fibers. For 500 grams of glue, add a kilogram of sawdust. The composition of liquid wallpaper from sawdust provides for the use of the smallest wood chips. For this, the raw material is sieved through a sieve and poured into a plastic container.

Using liquid wallpaper: surface preparation

Now that you know what the composition of liquid wallpaper is, you can make one of the above mixtures with your own hands. However, the correct ingredient composition does not guarantee one hundred percent success in the work. It is also important to properly prepare the surface. The substrate must be uniform and also sufficiently strong. It is important to ensure that the surface has a uniform moisture absorption capacity. It should be minimal.

In order to achieve a successful result, it is important to make the background color white, at least it should match the shade of the wallpaper itself. Walls and ceilings, where you plan to apply the mixture, should not have drops, potholes and depressions that are more than 3 mm per meter of surface. It is important to rid the area to be trimmed of old materials such as paint, wallpaper and peeling plaster. The master will have to remove screws, protruding nails, self-tapping screws and other metal, as well as plastic elements.

If there are pipes or fittings on the surface, then they are pre-sealed. For this, a putty is usually used, laid in a 2 mm layer. There is no need to level the walls and make them perfectly smooth and even. If there are extensive protrusions and depressions, then you can fix them with liquid wallpaper. But if you do not want to increase the consumption of finishing, then you must first rid the wall of protrusions and depressions that are more than 2 mm for each meter of surface. Usually the area is covered with plaster-based putty. This applies to partitions and plasterboard walls. It will not be enough to cover only the joints between the canvases. Once the surface is leveled, it can be primed.

Wallpaper preparation

If you decide to use liquid wallpaper in the repair process, the composition (what they consist of, you can find out by reading the instructions on the package) can be done by you yourself. However, quite often consumers purchase a factory mix. It comes to readiness within a time of 6 to 12 hours, so such manipulations must be started in advance.

The composition of the wallpaper will contain the following components:

  • dry glue;
  • decorative fillers;
  • silk or cellulose fibers of the base.

Sometimes the components are packaged separately and then mixed. In the first case, the composition is poured into a container or onto a large piece of polyethylene, and then mixed. The content is fluffy and does not crumple. Decorative additives such as colored granules and powders, as well as gloss, are best not mixed dry. They are poured into water and mixed, and then the base is added. This will allow for an even distribution and will prevent lumps of gloss from sticking to individual fibers.

Wallpaper application

Now you know what the composition of liquid wallpaper can be, at home you can prepare a mixture using one of the above technologies. However, it is also important to familiarize yourself with the application technology. To carry out the work you will need:

  • trowel;
  • putty knife;
  • grater;
  • spray gun.

For the material, special graters are also provided, which differ from the usual ones in that they have a narrowed blade. Quite often they are made of transparent plastic so that the master has the opportunity to control the smoothing process. The application is quite simple, the technology in this case is similar to the application of putty.

The solution is taken by hand or with a small spatula. The mixture is applied to the wall in portions and rubbed over the surface. As a result, you should get a 3mm layer. Some types of wallpaper should be applied thinner or thicker.

Conclusion

Liquid wallpaper is applied in small areas, which gradually merge with each other. If the solution does not lend itself well to sticking to the wall, then some water can be added to it, but not more than a liter per serving.
