A car bed made by daddy's hands is a joy for a child. We make a car bed with our own hands Drawings of a classic car for children's beds

A baby bed in the form of a car is a dream, probably, of every kid from 0 to 90 years old :). After all, men are the same children, which is why some of them one day decide to make a car bed for their son with their own hands.

These dads are so skillful that their products are not produced by the factory in quality, and how much joy from such creativity - words cannot convey!

While moms are doing lighter crafts (for example, doing), dads are rolling up their sleeves with might and main.

How to make a baby bed?

Today we will show, using the example of Alexei Neplyuev from Krasnodar, how to make your child's dream come true by arranging for him a sleeping place in the form of a vehicle.

You will have to sweat and spend some time and money, but all this will pay off a hundredfold when you see the smile of your son or daughter.

What materials are needed for the manufacture of children's furniture? Usually home craftsmen buy sheets of chipboard or MDF. Their thickness is different, you need 1-2 sheets, depending on the size of the machine. If you find a thick piece of plywood or a board made of natural wood, then the bed will turn out to be environmentally friendly!

DIY children's bed

Buy an orthopedic mattress and sew a cover on it to make it last as long as possible. Prepare tools, nails, screws, etc. You will also need paint in spray cans for coloring the product. The one that will not fit. Alexey, judging by the photo, used a real backlight-headlights for the car, but you can get by with a symbolic image-drawing.

From the photographs, the whole process of transforming ordinary parts into a super-vehicle for children's sleep and games will be clear.

Such children's furniture, a bed-car will look especially amazing if you attach a diode illumination to it and place it on the bottom of the product. Just don't forget to come up with a product switch!

Probably, now your child will be happy to run to bed, just after hearing your request: "It's time to sleep!"

Today, many consumers are fond of making their own furniture. The number of home craftsmen is increasing all the time. Some of them purchase construction blanks at furniture factories, while others prefer to make products according to their own projects. A do-it-yourself children's car bed can be made with all sorts of decorative elements or have a very simple look. It depends on the personal preferences of the child, parent, and financial capacity.

Thinking over the design of a baby car bed, we must not forget that children are “naughty people”: they jump, run, play all over the room and on the bed as well. Therefore, the frame of the product must be strong, without pronounced corners and metal fasteners that can injure the child.

The main requirements for the material for children's furniture are safety. It is carefully selected and checked for appropriate health certificates. In the process of making a crib car with your own hands, it is better to make a frame from hard wood:

  • Nut;
  • Ash;
  • Birch;

In addition to wood, it is allowed to make a children's bed from the following materials:

  • Chipboard with laminated printing. The material has an aesthetic appearance, the bed from it can have additional boxes for seasonal things, toys or bedding. The disadvantages of the product include peeling off the decorative "tuning" and instability to moisture;
  • Chipboard. The material has a protective film, which is applied at the initial stages of chipboard production. Reliable moisture resistant material provides the bed typewriter with a long service life and excludes the penetration of harmful resins into the atmosphere of the room;
  • MDF. For its manufacture, manufacturers use sawdust, which are held together by natural polymer and paraffin. A do-it-yourself machine bed made of MDF does not pose any health hazard to the child, since the quality of the material is equal to wood. The material is moisture resistant, resistant to mechanical stress.

To make a crib car with your own hands, a home craftsman will need certain tools and materials.

Tools:

  • Electric or manual jigsaw;
  • A hammer;
  • Sander;
  • Screwdriver;
  • Roulette, level;
  • Manual or electric milling machine with a set of cutters;
  • Drill, drills.

Tools

Materials and fasteners:

  • Wooden beams 50x50, 50x30 mm;
  • MDF (thickness 12-16 mm);
  • Plywood (10 mm thick);
  • Self-tapping screws, plugs;
  • Bolts, nuts;
  • Pencil;
  • Wooden dowels;
  • Furniture linear rollers for rolling out drawers;
  • Piano loop;
  • Connecting furniture corners;
  • Stain, glue, varnish.

The details of the machine bed are cut out using an electric jigsaw, the edges are cleaned and processed with a mill. To seal the sections, use a plastic edge or heat-resistant tape.

When buying building materials, first of all, you need to pay attention to the condition of the beams. They should be free of knots, since after a certain period they can pop out. The timber must be dry and even.

Step-by-step instruction

How to make a car bed with your own hands? You can dwell on the basic version of the product. Or you can use your own project and supplement it with exclusive decorative elements.

Drawing and dimensions

To make a baby crib for a boy, you need to develop a project that will be in the form of diagrams and drawings. They indicate the dimensions of the future children's car bed. For example, consider the manufacturing process of a model with a standard polyurethane foam mattress with dimensions of 1600x700x100 mm.

For the manufacture of a "racing car", you need to prepare drawings of structural elements:

  • A box for children's toys will be located under the "hood";
  • "Spoiler" is a shelf;
  • Side draw-out box ─ 639x552x169 mm;

Box size:

  • Bottom ─ 639x552 mm;
  • Side walls ─ 639x169 mm;
  • Inserted ribs ─ 520x169 mm.
  • Niche for a pull-out box with upper cutouts for beams 50x50 mm;
  • For a niche, you will need two parts measuring 700x262 mm;
  • The headboard measures 700x348 mm. The top of the element can be drawn with a radius or rectangular shape.

Then all dimensions of the parts are transferred in full size to templates, the projection of which will be transferred to the main material.

Cutting material

Lay out the prepared templates on the selected material (MDF or plywood) and cut out the details of the bed-typewriter for the boy.

The side skirts may be in the shape of a racing car.

To cut parts at home, craftsmen use an electric jigsaw.

Cutting should be done slowly to avoid chipping on the outer cuts.

The nuances of making a frame

The main advantages of the frame are strength and reliability. If cribs are made at home, then it is better to purchase ready-made sawn material for the frame. For the manufacture of the frame, you can use two modifications:

  • The frame can be made with a frame on supports or a box reinforced with wooden beams 50x30 mm. Metal corners are used to connect parts. The size of the frame or box must match the size of the mattress + 1-2 cm. The plywood bottom can be replaced with a slatted one, which can be purchased at a hardware store along with a lat holder;
  • When the structure of the frame and the frame are one piece. The bearing load is distributed to the sides, headboard and footboard. The parts are cut according to the templates, which are then assembled with the help of a confirmation. For the mattress, a frame is made of timber, which is attached to the inner sides of the sides and back. To strengthen the frame in the car, you can use bedside tables or dressers. In this case, the sidewalls of the car are attached to the furniture products. You will get ready-made niches for bedding, stationery, toys, and seasonal clothing.

Assembly

A homemade car is assembled from prepared parts, which are cut from MDF boards using a jigsaw. Each detail must be numbered. This contributes to a quick and error-free connection of parts of the structure.

All holes for fasteners must be drilled in the parts, the end parts must be ground and processed with the appropriate edging material. Only after that the preliminary assembly of the bed-typewriter takes place and all detailed matches are checked. Then the design is disassembled and the master proceeds to the next stage. He paints the details according to the design project. After the paint has dried, the parts are covered with water-based varnish, which does not harm the health of the child. And only after that the assembly of the product takes place.

Make a frame for the mattress from the selected timber 50x50 mm. Connect the bars with self-tapping screws 80 mm long. The dimensions of the mattress frame are 1600x700 mm.

Attach support legs ─ 5 pieces to the assembled frame (3 in front, and 2 in the back of the structure). The height of the supports is 225 mm. Make a front box, which consists of two side panels, a front, a back and a lid. It has to be attached with a piano loop.

Connect the back wall and the bottom with a confirmat, then attach the side parts and the lid with a piano hinge.

Place the templates of the side boards of the machine on plywood or MDF sheets. They will be different, since on one side you need to prepare a cutout for the drawer. Reinforce the side structures on the mattress frame with a confirmation. The boards are fixed at a distance of 13 mm from the floor.

Determine the location of the box, and then screw the sideboard with the rails and fix the box with self-tapping screws to the side of the machine.

Make a niche for a box from racks measuring 700x260 mm. In the upper part of the niche there are cutouts of 50x50 mm, which correspond to the section of the bar. Fix the racks.

Make a headboard according to a template. Attach the headboard to the frame.

Attach straight rollers to the drawer or use them as guides that can be attached to the side posts of the niche.

The dimensions of the box are influenced by the linear rollers, between which the box must be placed. Reinforce the box in the structure so that the side is aligned with the front of the box, and the bottom edge of the side of the bed is flush with the bottom edge of the front.

Install the drawer in the niche. From a bar, make a limiter on the opposite side so that it does not enter further than necessary.

Attach the parts with self-tapping screws to the structure. Make a cover plate, which is in the project with dimensions, and attach it to the facade so that the distance to the floor is 41 mm. Make wheels and tires. The radius of the outer tire is 164 mm, and the inner one is 125 mm. Make discs along the inner circle.

Supports on which the structure is installed will hide under the wheels. Fix them on the car bed. Reinforce the 16 mm MDF spoiler shelf with 12 mm pillars. Place a 10 mm thick plywood sheet on the bed.

Base and mattress

For the manufacture of the base, a durable material is used so that it can withstand the weight of the child and does not break if the child suddenly decides to jump on it.

Manufacturing procedure:

  • To fill the base, cut slats 20x20 mm;
  • The distance between the slats should not exceed one and a half of the width of the lamella;
  • Fasten the slats to the frame slats with the lamella holders.

We cut the slats

We attach them to the frame

Parents should take the choice of a mattress very seriously, taking into account the age and physiological characteristics of the child. Doctors have identified several main types of mattresses for a certain age:

  • Up to 3 years old ─ coconut, 5-12 cm high;
  • From 3 to 7 years old ─ medium hard, latex;
  • From 4 years old ─ with independent springs;
  • From 7 to 12 years old ─ soft type is allowed;
  • Over 12 years old ─ polyurethane foam, 14 cm high.

Today the industry offers mattresses with antibacterial impregnation or ventilation covers. The mattress is placed on the base.

Decorating

To make the boy happy with the assembled "car", it is beautifully decorated. The decorative elements are made from the same material as the main product. They can be decorated with multi-colored self-adhesive film. Some parts can be painted with saturated, durable acrylic paints with a spray gun or from a spray can. And sometimes a simple brush comes to the rescue of the master. Bulky car beds are most often painted in a rich red or blue color, decorated with white stripes.

Wheels can be cut from chipboard and painted black, and inexpensive plastic caps can be used to decorate the center.

Wheels can not be painted or decorated separately, but painted on the side details. And you can also paint the bed-typewriter in assembled form.

The car bed is decorated with emblems, inscriptions, moldings or stickers. The sides are decorated with decorative overlays, which are screwed in with self-tapping screws 80 mm long. The bottom edge of the cover is 41 mm from the floor.

In place of the headlights, holes are cut out for low-voltage LED spotlights. In this case, the "car" will have glowing headlights. The final design depends on the craftsman's imagination.

If the child has grown up, and you are thinking about organizing a larger bed for him, a do-it-yourself children's car bed will be the most suitable solution. While a regular bed is mainly used for relaxation, the car bed will also be a favorite place to play.

Criteria for determining a good baby bed

  • Children are constantly on the move, and despite the lower weight of the child, the load on the child's bed is greater than on the sleeping place of an adult. Therefore, this furniture must be stable and durable.
  • The sleeping place should be suitable for the child in size: not small or too large. When choosing a mattress, and therefore the parameters of the bed-typewriter, one should focus on the height, size of the child for the next 2-4 years.
  • Safety is one of the basic requirements for children's furniture. This concerns, firstly, the quality of the materials used for the product, its coating, and the reliability of the fasteners. Secondly, the bed should not have sharp or untreated surfaces, and thirdly, the berth should be equipped with high sides so that the child does not fall during sleep.

Do-it-yourself car bed

If you are going to make a children's car bed with your own hands, the first thing to do is to decide on the parameters of the bed, be sure to buy a mattress.

Based on its size, you can make changes to your favorite product drawings, in accordance with them, plan a car bed model specifically for your child.

The orthopedic mattress for this model has standard dimensions of 1600x700x100 mm. This car bed has a constructive storage space for toys, it is located under the hood, there is also a voluminous opening box on the side, and the car bed is equipped with a convenient spoiler in the back. The latter is a functional shelf on which you can place toys, a cup of milk, etc. The sides of the bed are made in the form of a racing car body.

Necessary materials

To make a car bed, you need to prepare the following materials, tools and accessories:

  • Pine timber with a section of 50x50 mm. Pay attention to the correct storage conditions for the material - in stacks with layer-by-layer lining, always under a canopy.
  • MDF or plywood 16 mm thick and 12 mm thick.
  • Plywood 10 mm thick.
  • Confirmation.
  • Self-tapping screws 80 mm.
  • Piano loop.
  • Furniture castors in line.
  • Pencil.
  • A paintbrush, wood paints or self-adhesive film with a picture of a picture of the machine.
  • PVA glue for furniture.
  • Jigsaw for MDF.
  • Electric drill with drills, screwdriver.
  • Sandpaper.

Operating procedure

Attention! After cutting out the edges of all parts from plywood or MDF, we carefully process the edges with emery cloth - we grind them. All parts of the bed, especially those with which the child may come into contact, must be safe.

  • First, we design the base for the mattress. We cut a bar of 50x50 mm into the required lengths: 2 x 1600 mm, 2 x 700 mm, 5 x 225 mm.
  • We assemble the frame 1600x700 mm. We fasten the joints with glue, as well as with 80 mm self-tapping screws.
  • The assembled frame is placed on 5 supports 50x50x225 mm also from a bar. The front of the bed will be subject to more stress, so there are 3 supports on it, the remaining 2 support the back of the car bed.
  • We collect the toy box. Guided by the prepared drawing, you need to cut out of MDF or order the necessary parts at the place of purchase of the material: 2 side walls, 1 front, 1 back wall, bottom and cover.
  • First of all, we connect the bottom of the box and its back wall with glue and furniture screws (confirmations, or euro screws). Then we fix the side walls in the same way. We install the front wall so that the entire rounded edge of the bottom part protrudes. Then we attach the lid to the edge of the back wall using a piano hinge.

  • In a convenient way for you, transfer the outlines of the boards to a sheet of MDF or thick plywood (16 mm). Be careful, the bottom drawer will only slide out on one side, so one of the sides has a cutout for it. Depending on the convenience and location of the car bed, you can change the drawer extension side. Use an electric jigsaw to cut out these parts.
  • We attach the sides to the frame: it must be done so that the bottom edge is 13 mm from the floor. To make it easier to navigate, we attach the assembled toy box to the front of the base frame. We fasten the sides to the frame with euro screws using a drill. We monitor the observance of the connection angles of 90 degrees.

  • We attach a box for toys. To do this, from the inside of the box, screw the Euro screws into the frame bar and into the sides of the car bed.
  • We make a niche for another drawer, which will be located under the mattress. First, let's prepare 2 identical posts that form a niche. Draw rectangles 700x262 mm on the plywood, at the upper corners of each you need to make cutouts 50x50 mm, into which the timber will become. We attach racks on the same level with the cutout for rolling out the box on the board.
  • Installation of the headboard. Cut out a part with a size of 700x348 mm, while the upper part must be made with a radius. Exposing it to the upper level with the side parts, we attach the headboard to the frame using 4 furniture screws.

  • For the drawer, we will prepare the details: bottom - 169x639 mm, 2 sides 169x520mm, 2 sides 169x639 mm and facade 606x208 mm. We assemble the box using screws. We fasten the facade so that its lower edge and the edge of the facade form one line. The gap between the front and the edge of the side cutout should be approximately 2 mm.
  • The box will move on straight rollers (attached to the bottom). The guides can be similar rollers on the niche racks (2 for each). Inside the niche at the opposite side, you need to install a limiter (you can from a piece of timber).

Decorating a car bed

  1. We cut out details from MDF or thick plywood for decorating the bed-car: wheel tires and disks, side linings, spoiler parts. For correct cutting we use drawings

Separately, we cut out the side plate on the side, tires (with a radius of 164 mm), discs and, according to measurements, a spoiler shelf.

  1. We decide for ourselves the question of coloring the bed: before assembly or already in finished form. To make our racing model look like a Ferrari, we will use red as the main color, dark gray will be able to shade parts of the sides, and silver will decorate the wheel rims. It is good to prepare several emblems of this brand and stick them on the disks and hood of the car in a ready-made form.
  2. We place decorative linings on the sides and fasten them with self-tapping screws. For correct installation, we combine the edges of the sides and the decorative strip at the rear of the car. In this case, the distance from the pad to the floor must be 41 mm.
  3. For convenience, install a handle on the drawer that matches the color.
  4. We attach wheels and discs to the sides so that the tires reach the floor, closing the supports of the main frame.
  5. We attach a spoiler shelf and arbitrary side pillars.
  6. We use plywood (10 mm) as a base for the mattress. We put it on the frame of the frame.
  7. To complete the finish, you can cover the edges of the MDF with a U-shaped flexible edge that matches the color of the car bed.

Each child is special, bright and spontaneous, with a huge number of desires, but the most important of them is to play. Probably all parents will agree: one of the most difficult problems to solve is putting a little fidget to bed. The solution is simple and ingenious: combine the process of going to bed with play. For this purpose, a children's car bed is the best fit. Such a sleeping place will not only delight the child, but will also allow you to play almost all day. And if you yourself have done such an amazing and necessary thing, then the child's confidence that his dad is the best will increase many times over.

Choosing a model

There are different types of beds that are perfect for a particular occasion. First, you need to decide what kind of car it will be. The entire "car park" of beds is conventionally divided according to some criteria: size, age category and functionality. Copies of real cars are designed for children aged five years and older, as they have low sides, which do not guarantee that the child will not fall out of bed at night. Sometimes movable elements are mounted on such "transport", which makes them even more like real cars.

It may be sometimes better to stick with a simplified version. This baby car bed is more like a toy car or a cartoon character. Such options are ideal for children at a very young age. These cribs are the safest because all the corners are smooth and the sides are high enough to prevent the baby from falling asleep. Kids from one and a half years old can become the happy owners of their first car.

If you have more than one child, you may need to fit a double-decker bus or even a locomotive in the room. Such children's beds in the form of a car allow you to rationally use the entire space of the room. You can also create a loft bed: made in the form of a van, it allows you to use the lower tier for sleeping, and the upper one for entertainment. Or vice versa: the sleeping place is equipped at the top, and the play area is located at the bottom.

Optimal bed size

When installing children's car beds for boys, parents try to transform the room in such a way that the child would be interested in spending time there. The dimensions of the bed play an important role in this. It should take into account the growth of the child, as well as provide him with safety and comfort while sleeping. If you are not going to change your sleeping place every year, then it is best to provide enough space for a child of any age. The recommended width of the mattress will be from 0.95 m to 1.2 m, while the length of a baby car bed should be at least one and a half meters, and can even reach 2.4 meters. On such a bed, a child can calmly sleep even up to fifteen years. And young mothers assure that you can calmly lie down on it while you put your baby down, and at the same time not feel discomfort.

If you plan to install a two-tier structure, then do not forget to take into account the height of the room. A baby car bed of this type will be from 1.5 to 1.9 m in height. You need to place it in such a way that the child on the top floor does not have to bend over.

Additional little things

For even more realism, you can equip the auto bed with headlights. LED lamps can be used not only as a decor and element of the game, but also as a bedside lamp. You can also install turn lights, which will be turned on with a separate button. Baby beds in the form of a car can be equipped with a box for bed linen. This is very convenient, since there is no need to buy a chest of drawers as well. If you have installed a double-decker bus, then it can be perfectly supplemented with a bracket to which a punching bag, rope or even beams will be attached.

When installing baby car beds for boys, you should also make appropriate changes in the design of the room, if possible. For example, you can glue murals with corresponding pictures or install a Big Ben dummy. The flooring can be purchased in the shape of a road, and the bedding can be matched to the automotive theme.

What materials to choose?

The choice of materials should be approached very carefully. All elements must be safe and non-toxic to both baby's skin and breathing. Before purchasing materials, you should make sure that the manufacturer adheres to all sanitary, hygienic and environmental standards. Be sure to check the certificates of conformity.

To make a bed, you can purchase a chipboard laminated with photo printing. This is an economical and very beautiful option, however, over time, the decorative coating can come off, besides, in this case, there are a number of restrictions on wet cleaning.

The second option is chipboard. It differs from the first in that it is covered with an additional protective film. Such a coating significantly extends the life of the machine-bed. Children's furniture made from these boards is stronger and less afraid of moisture.

The third option is MDF. This is the most environmentally friendly raw material from sawdust. They are connected with a natural polymer, which excludes the use of formaldehydes. Such raw materials are most similar in properties to natural wood, but at the same time they are much stronger. MDF perfectly tolerates moisture, and it is almost impossible to scratch it.

And finally, of course, wood combined with plywood: this option will turn out to be the most expensive, but also the most beneficial for the health of the child.

Required tool

Many dads will immediately grab their heads, as much is needed - this and that. In fact, everything is not so scary. You will need a jigsaw, with which we will cut out the parts. You can, of course, do with a simple jigsaw or saw, but then the process will turn out to be very long and time consuming. Also, do not forget about the sander: it is useful for removing burrs and chips, but you can get by with simple sandpaper. Every owner will surely find the rest of the tool at home. You need screwdrivers, a hammer, brushes and paints (necessarily non-toxic, for interior work), self-tapping screws, a tape measure, a pencil. Everything has been prepared, so you can start.

Children's car bed with their own hands

To create a bed, you need to find detailed drawings, with step-by-step instructions. Perhaps you need a bed with a box for toys or space for a bed, or maybe you should provide shelves for various little things. Having decided on the design, you can calculate the amount of material required.

For the simplest model you will need:

  • plywood or MDF with a thickness of 16 millimeters - for the sides and back;
  • slatted bottom or plywood 10 mm - the basis for the mattress;
  • furniture fittings and fasteners;
  • glue;
  • brushes, paints or varnish.

Stages of creating a bed

We decide what should be a children's car bed. The photo can be viewed in our article or visit specialized furniture salons for this purpose. After that, we sketch. It can be a model reduced several times, but in compliance with all proportions.

When you start to like the look of the future product, you will need to make a template out of paper. Then it will be easy to transfer to the plywood before cutting. Of course, if you draw well, you can skip the template creation stage, and draw directly on the material from which the sleeping place will be created. Perhaps you are well versed in programs such as AutoCAD, then make a layout in them.

Now the children's bed (car) you have invented is beginning to come true. We attach the drawing to the plywood and cut out the details. We process them with sandpaper to eliminate roughness. At the end of this part of the work, we paint all the necessary elements and put them together.

What parts are needed?

To create in the future (perhaps for friends or acquaintances or with the appearance of babies in the family) do-it-yourself children's car beds, it is better to save the drawings. They may still be needed. And now we cut out two sidewalls in the form of a car and a headboard. Of course, if the bed stands against the wall, you can get by with one part, but then the car will turn out to be less effective. You can paint everything you need on the sidewalls, but if there is a lot of enthusiasm, then try installing side windows made of plexiglass. Also, the car can be equipped with rotating wheels and headlights. The front of the bed must be lower than the rest, so that it is convenient to climb into it. You can even install a steering wheel.

Choosing a mattress

Mattresses can be divided into two main groups: spring and springless. The latter are distinguished by a longer service life and an orthopedic effect. Also, all mattresses are classified by filler:

  • coconut fiber has - good hypoallergenic properties - it is a natural material of medium hardness;
  • latex filler - breathable, with anti-fungal properties, does not absorb dust;
  • polyurethane foam - artificial latex with similar properties, but cheaper.

When buying a mattress, you should definitely take into account the age and physiological characteristics of the child. Doctors recommend the following types depending on the age of the children:

  • up to three years old - from coconut fibers, medium hardness, 5-12 cm high;
  • from 3 to 7 years old - also of medium hardness, but the top layer can be made of latex;
  • after 4 years it is allowed to use a mattress with independent springs;
  • from 7 to 12 years old - softer types are allowed, but it is better to consult an orthopedist;
  • over 12 years old - mattresses made of polyurethane foam, fourteen centimeters high, they have sufficient rigidity, ideally suited to the increasing weight of the teenager.

Manufacturers also offer mattresses with additional properties. It can be antibacterial impregnation, treatment with silver ions, covers made of ventilated material in the kit.

Proper bed care

A sleeping place made of chipboard or MDF should be wiped with a slightly damp cloth, especially carefully removing dust from vinyl stickers and photographic prints. Plastic parts can be washed with soapy water, and the linen boxes are regularly vacuumed and ventilated.

The car-shaped crib helps to decorate the nursery and at the same time serves as a resting place and a playground. In addition, falling asleep in such a bed is much more exciting, and the process itself now turns into a fun game.

The baby is growing, and he is already cramped and uncomfortable in his first baby crib with barred walls. It's time for him to master "adult" furniture - and his parents buy for him.

It will not be interesting at all if this is a boring quadrangular structure, which differs from ordinary furniture only in its smaller dimensions.

Maybe it's better to give your child a holiday by installing a bed in his room that resembles a car? This and will decorate the nursery, and complement its another playable element.

You can find many similar designs on sale, however, they are not cheap, they are not always of high quality, and it happens that there is not always one that I would like to buy without hesitation.

It's okay if the owner of the house has at least a little skills in working with carpentry tools, he can do it to make this furniture miracle yourself.

And if you connect your baby to the development of the model and to the manufacturing process - there will be no limit to children's happiness.

Determining the scope of work

To begin with, you need to decide whether the "machine" will be made from scratch, or "pumped over" an ordinary bed, which has already been rushed to buy, or which remained after grown-up children.

  • If a bed awaiting a new owner has a wooden base, then the question is greatly simplified. It will be possible to make decorative plywood elements (side panels that repeat the contour of the car, a kind of bumper, spoiler-shaped jumpers) - and sheathe the finished crib with them.
  • It's a different matter if you need to make a children's bed a car with your own hands (or almost with your own - the mattress, probably, will still be used ready-made). In this case, you will have to tinker a little more, constructing reliable frame-frame, able to withstand all loads. And there can be a lot of them - it's no secret that children perceive the bed, often, not only as a place for a quiet rest, but also as a platform for active games, with jumps, somersaults, etc.
  • The third option is to purchase a ready-made metal go wood bed frame on legs, and "put" on it a decorative trim-box in the form of a car, made in approximately the same way as in the other cases above.

Bed frame

Requirements for the stability of the bed to loads, and therefore to its safety for the child, determine the choice of material from which the frame will be made.

Since it will serve base for the mattress, you should immediately decide on its possible design.

If the mattress is soft, padded, then the top of the bed frame should have solid flat surface. In this case, cross members are required on the frame of the frame.

Their number depends on the coating material - for plywood 6 - 10 mm 2 jumpers will be enough, if chipboard is used, you need to install them more often - pieces 5 - 6.

If you plan to use a furniture mattress with a solid wooden base, then the frame can be made in the form of a solid frame. For example, you can make a parallelepiped from a bar 6 x 4 cm.

The main advantage of this method is obtaining correct geometric shapes, smooth curved transitions, the ability to make changes to the sketch on the fly.

You can immediately decide on the color and design by trying several options. If you do not have enough independent skills, it is not difficult to ask someone from your acquaintances for help.

Vector drawing can be "stretched" to any required size, printed on a certain number of sheets of paper - and get the exact template of the future part. By transferring it to a sheet of material, you can cut it out.

The workpiece is cut with a jigsaw, the edges are carefully cleaned from possible chipping and roughness

If possible, you need to clean the edge with a cutter. Next, the edge must be sealed with a special plastic thermal tape.

With the second half it turns out easier - it is done according to the finished first. The process will be even more simplified if there is a manual milling machine - using a straight cutter with a wheel the first blank can be copied exactly.

When designing the sidewalls, do not forget that the child needs convenient "entrance to the car"- a place where he will climb into bed, without pointing out the bruises from the hard edges.

In the same way, all other parts of the bed frame are marked and cut out, after which you can proceed to assembly.

During installation, self-tapping screws are used, and in the case of using furniture panels - confirmates(furniture ties) with an internal hexagon that securely fasten the parts together.

"Launching the machine"

  • For the assembled "car" to please the eye, it is necessary decorate it beautifully. For this, a film can be used - self-adhesive of various colors, you can also resort to painting. In this case, it would be better to take acrylic paints - they are more saturated and durable. Better painting will be with a spray gun or cans, but you can do with a brush.
  • Look nice embossed finishing details, cut from plywood and pre-painted in the desired colors.
  • What to do with wheels? The easiest option is to simply draw them on the sidewalls, but you can make it more interesting. For example, cut wheels from chipboard, paint them black, fix them in the right place, and place inexpensive plastic caps purchased at a car dealership in the center. There are many other options - it all depends on the imagination of the master.
  • In the same place, in a car shop, you can purchase emblems, lettering, moldings or stickers, which will give a special look to the "car". An Audi car bed, a zipper makvin, etc. will look especially interesting.
  • It would be unreasonable to ignore the free space under the bed - this will only be a place of accumulation of dust. It is not difficult for a good master to make one or several drawers, in which you can place bedding, unnecessary baby things, toys, etc. An interesting box for toys will turn out under the "hood" of the car - the child will really like it.
  • If the design of the "car" provides for a spoiler, then this will not only become an extra decoration of the bed, but also turn into a fairly functional shelf for books and toys.
  • If the creative fuse has not passed, you can add the car glowing headlights, by cutting spotlights with low-voltage LED lamps in the right place. Placing such a lamp on the "spoiler" creates a wonderful night lamp.

It is probably unnecessary to say that all the details of the bed should be carefully polished, in order to prevent even the theoretical possibility of a child getting a splinter.

There are a lot of options for making a baby cot-typewriter. Baby car beds will be interesting not only for boys, but also for girls. This is a vast space for the joint fantasy of a father and a child.
