Ideas for repairing bathrooms in Khrushchev. Features of the bathroom design in Khrushchev

More recently, some fifty years ago, an apartment in the Khrushchev five-story building was the subject of dreams of many people in the USSR. Today these houses are contemptuously called Khrushchebs. And, meanwhile, it is still quite possible to live in them. They are, of course, cramped and the bathrooms are combined, but nevertheless, these are comfortable apartments.

Bathroom - a relaxation room for the proletariat

The most problematic place in Khrushchev's apartments is the bathroom. If all other rooms allow you to easily fit in them, then 5-6 square meters are in no way able to accommodate everything that people are trying to push there.

A bathtub, a sink, a washing machine, a bedside table for storing hygiene items and detergents should not fit in such a small area, but you need to place a toilet somewhere, where can you go without it. It would also be nice to insert the basket for dirty linen somewhere.

By common sense, for most of our people, the bathroom is a place of relaxation, where a person can relax while lying in a warm bath, and maybe even sleep.

How can all this be in such a cramped room - a big question? However, if you approach the solution of this issue creatively, it turns out that not everything is as bad as it seems.

A combined bathroom is more a plus than a minus

If you show a little imagination, then the solution to the problem will come by itself, and what seemed like a huge disadvantage yesterday will turn into a big plus tomorrow. So, for example, everyone thinks that a combined bathroom is very inconvenient. Indeed, the bathroom and toilet in the same room do not add enthusiasm to the inhabitants of the Khrushcheb.

But if you think about it, the inconvenience here is not too great. The advantages of such a layout outweigh all possible disadvantages. By combining a bathroom and a toilet in one room, the designers got even one, but still not very small and promising living space.

Rational organization of the bathroom

Considering the photos of the bathroom in the Khrushchev found on the Internet, one is amazed how people managed to rationally organize this tiny space. Moreover, there are a great many options for organizing it. The main idea behind all these options is to place everything in the bathroom along the walls and, if possible, in two or even three levels.

That is, the walls exist not only in order to divide one large room into several small ones and put something next to them (the walls), but, if possible, then fix something on them that does not fit below ... This opportunity appears as needed.

Initially, more or less rationally, a bathtub is installed in the bathroom, because it always stands against the wall, therefore, it, most often, does not take up a single extra centimeter of space in the bathroom. Many believe that since there is a small bathroom in the Khrushchev, then the sink can be donated by installing a washing machine in its place.

Washing machine in Khrushchev

In principle, this option is not so bad, although it will not be very convenient to wash, but the washing machine in the bathroom, in Khrushchev is always more important. Indeed, of all the premises of the apartment, only a bathroom and a kitchen are suitable for this, because they have the ability to connect to electricity, and to a source of cold water, and to a sewage system.

Considering the scanty area of the kitchen, and, generally speaking, the kitchenette (the kitchen is somehow too strong a word), there is simply no other alternative, except for a bathroom, to accommodate a washing machine. So for the sake of this super useful unit, you can endure minor inconveniences.

However, a creative approach to bathroom design in Khrushchev is creative because it does not require sacrificing one convenience for the sake of another. That is, if desired, both the sink and the car can be combined without sacrificing a single centimeter of usable area.

This is done simply, the sink is moved a little higher, and the washing machine is placed under it. Thus, thanks to a simple, like everything brilliant, solution, it becomes possible to place two large objects at once on an area of less than one square meter.

Another advantage of this placement will be the masking of the pipe elbow going from the sink to the sewer. By using the walls in the organization of the interior of the bathroom, we get additional space. Following this principle and further, we replace the bedside table for storing hygiene items with a hanging cabinet again, attaching it to the wall.

Dryer placement

Having coped with the task of installing a washing machine, you inevitably face another task, which is a consequence of solving the first. Since the washing machine is installed for washing linen, after the linen is washed in the washing machine, it must be dried somewhere.

Heated towel rails are usually used for this purpose. They are very convenient and are designed specifically for drying washed linen, but it is not possible to dry something larger than a towel on them.

Therefore, compact clothes dryers mounted to the wall have become widespread in our country. The placement of the toilet bowl in the bathroom should be such that, as a result of its installation, large gaps of space do not appear, which is not used in any way and cannot be rationally used.

Toilet installation

To do this, you often have to change the old toilet and install a specialized corner or wall-mounted one. Both options allow you to save the usable area of the bathroom. In one case, due to its installation in the corner, and in the other, due to the absence of a drain tank.

In either case, the count goes to centimeters, maybe several tens of centimeters, but there are no trifles in organizing the bathroom space.

Corner, sit-down baths and showers

If all these measures did not lead to the expected result: significant savings in the area of the bathroom, you can experiment with the bathroom. For example, remove the old large bathtub and put in a corner or sit-down bathtub. Of course, you will have to buy a new bathtub, which, quite possibly, will be less comfortable than the old one, but everything that should be in it will fit in the bathroom.

If relaxation in the bathtub is of no value to you, then it would be most advisable to remove it altogether and instead install a shower room, which takes up very little space. After spending quite a bit of time, you can choose a suitable option for a shower room that will look beautiful and fit without any problems even in the smallest bathroom in Khrushchev.

In addition to a toilet bowl, a washing machine, a sink and a bathtub, the person himself should comfortably fit in the bathroom. Probably, looking far ahead, our designers once developed a bathroom, which combined a bathroom with a toilet, in Khrushchev it turned out to be very useful.

Redecorating a bathroom

The bathroom is one of those rooms in the house, which in the morning forms a person's mood, therefore, in order to not charge a person with negative energy, its interior should not cause negative emotions in a person.

Before you start redecorating a bathroom in Khrushchev, you need to draw up a general plan for transforming your bathroom. In addition to all of the above, you need to think over the options for finishing the bathroom. So, for example, its walls and ceiling should be painted in light colors, the floor must be covered with tiles.

Of course, each owner of his apartment is free to decide what to do with it, and is full of his own ideas for the bathroom in his Khrushchev.

Khrushchevs, as a Soviet legacy, due to their small size, need a lot of ingenuity from their residents when planning an interior. The bathroom and its design in such an apartment need a separate conversation, since the small area and dependence on existing communications practically leave without original solutions to this problem. But still, even from a small bathroom, it is possible to make a truly spectacular place for relaxation and comfort. We will tell you about this in our article and help you make your dream of a beautiful bathroom a reality.

When we talk about Khrushchevs, we involuntarily frown, remembering tiny baths and uncomfortable kitchens. Is there a panacea for this scourge? There is! Today I want to tell you about the methods, ideas and secrets of arranging a small bathroom.

Bathroom: a question of redevelopment

If we do not have enough space, we need to take it somewhere. And then thoughts swarm in my head about combining a bathroom with a toilet, moving a wall or even moving a bathroom. Wait to destroy and destroy! Not all ingenious ideas fit into existing legislation.

Transferring, separating and merging

  • The bathroom and the kitchen belong to wet areas and are considered non-residential. These two factors limit their "migration" around the apartment. You cannot expand the bathroom at the expense of living rooms, but no one bothers you to connect the adjacent storage room and the corridor to this.

Remember!
Expansion from the kitchen is illegal, as is the reverse.

  • If you decide to sacrifice part of the corridor for expansion, calculate everything carefully. The optimum comfortable aisle width should be at least 90 cm.

  • It will be legal to transfer only to the non-residential part of the apartment, for example, to the storeroom. These works require the laying of communications, and therefore approval by government agencies.

The ban does not apply only to those apartments that are located on the ground floor or above non-residential premises (shops on the ground floor).

The problem may affect not only the legality of the transfer, but also the technical feasibility. A too long line with many corners will certainly reduce the pressure and temperature of the hot water.

  • In an existing bathroom, you can move plumbing equipment. For example, a bathtub requires a pipe with a diameter of only 5 cm and a slight slope of 2-4 degrees. A little more hassle can be created by moving the toilet, which requires a serious slope of pipes with a diameter of 10 cm.

  • I can say with confidence that in a small bathroom you can find a place for additional equipment, for example, a heated towel rail, a washing machine and a drying cabinet. Place a water heated towel rail near a common line, in this case you will not disturb the circulation of hot water and do not lower the temperature in the heated towel rail. The washing machine requires a cold water supply, which also imposes some restrictions on the choice of installation site.

  • No one will ever allow you to liquidate and close the ventilation shaft. Ignoring this is the first step to the appearance of mold and mildew; by your actions, you simply invite them into the house.

Finishing options are not regulated by law, it can be plastic panels, tiles, wood, mosaic, stone, wallpaper ... The main thing to remember is that the finish must be safe and durable. Excellent ideas for finishing the ceiling are provided by a moisture-resistant one, but stretch ceilings in the bathroom, if improperly installed, can become a breeding ground for mold.

What kind of beast is the plumbing room?

What is a plumbing cabin? This is a hellish development of engineers, which is a module installed in the bathroom at the stage of building a house. Often, for the manufacture of the box, asbestos cement was used, which does not in the best way affect our health.

By removing the structure from your bathroom, you will not only get rid of the enemy for health, but also carve out useful centimeters of area that were not enough, for example, to install a washing machine. A pleasant bonus of such a redevelopment will be an increase in the height of the room by 15-20 cm (depending on the series of the house).

However, it is important to understand that the demolition of a plumbing booth belongs to the category of full-fledged redevelopments and requires legal permission.

Repairing a bathroom in Khrushchev with dismantling the plumbing begins with dismantling the ceiling and walls, at the next stage, the concrete base is removed. When arranging a new bathroom, the floor is waterproofed, the screed is poured and the walls are impregnated with a hydrophobic compound.

Functional solutions for a small bathroom

Idea 1

Don't demolish walls - install two sinks. Most often, battles for the sink take place in a divided bathroom, someone wants to wash their hands, someone enjoys taking a bath, and a life-and-death war begins.

The sink in the restroom is a rare guest even in modern apartments, not to mention the old foundation, but it is she who fosters a number of good habits in us. Before you consider placing a bidet or bidet shower, find a place for a humble sink.

Today you can easily find a model measuring 25x25 cm or 40x22 cm worth from 800 rubles.

You can get cold water in the toilet by installing a single-lever mixer, which is connected to the water supply to the tank using a tee.

Significantly save on water bills will allow the drain line from the sink to the barrel.

Mini sink models:

Brand name price, rub.
Santeri 830
Jacob Delafon Terrace 10 230
IFO Special 2 330
Laufen pro 3 500
Olympia linea lavabi 6 000
Gustavsberg Nordic 3 400
Roca gap 4 800
Simas arcade 11 900

Idea 2

The stumbling block in a small bathroom is often the washing machine. In conditions of a shortage of space, I recommend sending it under the sink (the latter should be wall-mounted or overhead).

Yes, you will not be able to walk around with the size of a washing machine, but even models up to 46 cm deep can claim to be functional, since they can easily fit 5-6 kg of laundry.

There is one more point that requires attention, with this arrangement of the washing machine, the mounting height of the sink increases from the standard 90 cm to 100-105 cm, but this is not critical, especially if your height is more than 165.

Idea 3

Do not pile up finishing materials, limit yourself to 1-2 options, this will help to visually expand the space. As proof, I present a photo of the bathroom, almost completely finished with light Calacatta marble.

Idea 4

Find unusual plumbing fixtures and accessories. In a small bathroom there are no inconspicuous things, the area allows you to examine everything very closely. Believe me, with the proper enthusiasm and resourcefulness, you can find a place for an antique underframe, a mirror in an old frame, and even candlesticks.

Idea 5

For a small bathroom, it is appropriate to use shades of the same range. Such color experiments will be relevant in the Moroccan style, and here is an example - a bathroom decorated with rectangular brick-like tiles and wallpaper, the pattern of which is very similar to oriental painted ceramics.

Idea 6

If you are not fond of wallpaper and tiles, take wood paneling for decoration. By carefully adjusting the pattern, you can get the effect of a single surface, giving a feeling of comfort and warmth.

Idea 7

You can divert attention from the modest area of the room with the contrasting design of the walls. For example, at the top, find a place for bright hand-painted wallpaper, at the bottom for painted panels.

Let me tell you a little secret - place interesting decor and expensive finishing materials at eye level, everything that is placed below is no longer so eye-catching.

Idea 8

Choosing the right lighting is of paramount importance.... An important form of lamps, light saturation, combination with finishing materials. In a small bathroom, be sure to highlight dark areas and corners that visually reduce the room in dim overhead lighting.

Summing up

After reading this material, you are convinced that even a bathroom in a Khrushchev can be very attractive and functional. How do you deal with the lack of space in typical houses? Share your ideas with our readers in the comments and be sure to watch the video in this article.

Any renovation in Khrushchev apartments (and the bathroom is no exception) is a very responsible matter, which will require you to have rational thinking in addition to taste. Usually, bathrooms in apartments of this type have an area of no more than 5 square meters, and even not a very convenient layout.

All this greatly complicates DIY bathroom renovation for a non-professional.

The small area of the bathroom also complicates the process of selection and placement of plumbing and furniture. Often there is no question of installing a washing machine.

However, not everything is so sad, and even in a small bathroom you can create a cozy interior if you try hard.

The complex design of a beautiful bathroom in a small Khrushchev

Choosing a style for renovation

Thinking about decorating a bathroom in Khrushchev, do not forget about the design of the entire apartment. For example, a high-tech bathroom will look like a stranger in an apartment with a classic interior, despite the fact that in itself it will be very comfortable and beautiful. It would be more appropriate to use elements of classic design and natural materials - a wooden cabinet or shelf, gilded sconces near the mirror, marble panels.

The sewer riser can be designed as a marble column, and the washbasin can be replaced with a ceramic or porcelain bowl, standing on a countertop made of artificial or natural stone. However, do not forget that classic design is, first of all, luxury and elegance, so a small room should not be overloaded with decorative elements. For examples of styles in design, you need to refer to the photos on our website and on the Internet in order to choose the direction you like.

Country style for non-professionals is the most successful, as it implies extraordinary simplicity and closeness to nature. Pebbles, driftwood, natural fabrics and rough crafts can replace most of the finishing materials and decor elements.

The design of the bathtub is also better to choose in accordance with the chosen style - a freestanding bathtub on curly legs will decorate both a classic bathroom and a country style. If it is a standard one, you can simply add some characteristic detail, for example, a standard bezel can be replaced with a roughly painted wood panel or even a canvas or linen curtain.

A minimalist bathroom in Khrushchev, at first glance, seems to be the simplest and easiest to repair. Indeed, nothing superfluous is allowed here, and all structures have their own functional purpose. But it is enough to remember that the origins of minimalism is the Japanese style, which has been developing its own rules for millennia.

Flawless lines of surfaces and many other nuances create an elusive play of this style, and any mistake turns such an interior into empty and uninteresting. Small details create this simple style. However, a competent minimalist bathroom project is the best fit for Khrushchev women - the interior space of such rooms visually expands, and its functionality surpasses any other interior options.

Before choosing new plumbing fixtures and bathroom furniture in Khrushchev, it is necessary to determine the minimum that should really be in the bathroom. Indeed, many, if they have a bath, are ready to abandon the washbasin in order to put a washing machine there, or, conversely, change it to a compact shower. In any case, if there is a shortage of space, you should not put bulky storage cabinets in the bathroom or try to equip it with all the well-known plumbing fixtures right down to the bidet.

Even the most modest size and area of a bathroom in a Khrushchev can accommodate a minimal set of items - a washbasin, a toilet, a small cabinet for storing detergents, and a place for bathing. The shower stall in Khrushchev is generally very popular.

Corner and asymmetrical plumbing fixtures and furnishings are the best way to organize the space of a tiny bathroom. For example, an asymmetric whirlpool tub with a volume of 300 liters fits well in a small bathtub in a Khrushchev, because its length is only 150 cm, and its width is 51 cm and 96 cm.It is important to plan such moments in advance during renovation.

Minimalism at its finest. Photo of real repair

Vertical wall space can be used above the washing machine, toilet and door. Hanging cabinets and shelves should not be very deep (up to 25-30 cm), otherwise they will visually clutter up the bathroom space. The same rule applies to the washbasin cabinet, and it is better to refuse shelves above a small sink altogether, since it will be very inconvenient to bend over the sink to shave or wash.

Color solution

Many bathroom design projects are carried out in pastel light colors that visually expand the space and make it airy and weightless.

Combined bathroom in light colors

At the same time, white can be the main or additional color both in finishing materials for repairs, and in furniture or plumbing. The light pistachio and lemon colors of the patterns on the walls or furniture fronts add extraordinary freshness to the bathroom. Delicate cream or peach shades create a special coziness, while traditional blue makes the room cool.

Often, bathroom renovation involves the installation of an acrylic insert, while the color of the new border must be matched to the color of the enamel or acrylic material. It is generally better to refuse horizontal borders and patterns in a small bathroom in favor of vertical stripes or patterns. The use of two or three colors in harmony with each other is quite enough to create comfort in a small bathroom in a Khrushchev building.

In order for the repair of the combined bathroom in Khrushchev to give concrete results, often a complete redevelopment of the premises is required, which, of course, is quite expensive and troublesome.

  1. Square: when we hear the concept of "Khrushchev" the first association that comes to mind is a minimum of space. Of course, the option of a combined bathroom and a bathroom is much more pleasant, but such happiness does not happen in every Khrushchev building.
  2. Communications: repairing a bathroom in Khrushchev today requires a global redevelopment, because only in this case it is possible to achieve an expansion and increase in space. However, such a plan is most often interfered with by the laid communications, because they tie the plumbing to specific places, which is not always beneficial for changing the room. In addition, during the renovation in the bathroom, there may be an unplanned need to replace communications or wiring, which is quite expensive.
  3. Uneven surfaces: One of the main problems of Khrushchev's home is the rather rough and uneven walls. As a rule, during the repair of the bathroom, the Khrushchev has to level both the walls and the floor, which is quite expensive and takes a lot of time. It should also be noted that when leveling, a solution and putty are used, which occupy a considerable layer, and a decrease in space affects the bathroom area in a bad way.

Similar difficulties are encountered on the way of any repair, and even more so in the bathroom of a Khrushchev house. However, any troubles can be solved, the main thing is to think over everything well in advance.

Planning

Repairing a bathroom in Khrushchev, like repairing a bathroom, requires a detailed plan, because otherwise any little thing can ruin and complicate your actions. A preliminary plan will help you organize the space correctly, increase the usable area, and put all the little things in their place.

Such a project involves the arrangement of furniture, plumbing, electrical appliances and even such trifles as a laundry basket and cup holders for toothbrushes.

Consider finishing options and shades, because then it will be difficult to change anything.
The plan will help you organize an already meager bathroom space in a functional and attractive way.

Description: Bathroom design in Khrushchev. TOP 15 bathroom design options.

In this slideshow, I have chosen the best options for how a renovation should look like in a small bathroom, which contains both a bath and a toilet.

Often we are faced with such a situation that at the time when we are thinking about how to change the environment in the bathroom, nothing comes to mind because of the limited room for maneuver.

Photo of a water heater in the interior of the bathroom

Despite the general opinion of designers from every corner of the world, today even a child knows that a full bath takes up a lot of space. A reasonable solution would be to replace the bathtub with a shower cabin or at least a corner bowl. If we exclude the cardinal options with redevelopment, combination with a bathroom and wall removal, such a replacement would be the most painless choice.

The advantages of a shower cabin:

  1. the amount of water consumed is reduced by 5-6 times,
  2. the free space will become much larger,
  3. there is space for a washing machine or laundry basket.

It is worth noting that replacing plumbing is quite simple with your own hands. The new shower stall is somewhat expensive, however, all the funds will pay off when you see your bathroom spacious and comfortable.

  • Repair of a bathroom in Khrushchev will be functional and reasonable in case of replacing the USSR plumbing fixtures with modern design options. Consider the idea of a wall-hung toilet: when the cistern is hidden in the wall and the floor under the structure is free, the room seems spacious enough. The installation is quite robust and can withstand a weight of up to 200 kg.
  • The repair of the bathtub in Khrushchev will also affect the sink. The cardinal method involves the complete removal of the sink, and using the tap above the bathtub as a washbasin. This option is not to everyone's liking, so it's better to get by with a modern pendant model. A free floor is the best effect on a spacious room.
  • Communications must be hidden, for which use a drywall box. Not a single toilet repair in Khrushchev is complete without this decision. In any room of the Khrushchev house, it is beneficial to use such an idea as additional shelves for bathroom accessories.
  • Of course, the bathroom in Khrushchev is unlikely to accommodate a washing machine, but it is not a good idea to huddle in the kitchen. The device can be installed under a wall-mounted washbasin, next to a new shower stall, near a narrow corner of a triangular bathtub, or even make a special niche in the room. However, keep in mind that the location of the washing machine must be thought out in advance.

By following these tips in the complex, the new bathroom will be unrecognizable. The advantage of such solutions is that any replacement and redevelopment can be done by hand, and this will not harm the family budget.

The main question is, how much does the repair cost? The modern market offers a lot of goods of various prices, both domestic and imported. It is very important not to chase after the cheapness of goods, because the repair of the bathroom does not take a year or two. Remember, no matter how much new plumbing costs, its service life should be up to 10 years.

If you nevertheless decide to demolish the wall and radically change the premises, be patient and have the means, because you have to face the BTI service (without their permission, you cannot make changes to the apartment plan) and a host of related problems.

With favorable hands, do-it-yourself repairs will be one pleasure, not to mention the results.

Bathroom design in blue tones

Choice of shades

As we have mentioned more than once, the primary problem of rooms in a Khrushchev house is the minimum area. This issue is most effectively resolved in two ways: replacing plumbing, which we mentioned above, and choosing a light finish.

Let's talk in more detail about the choice of cladding and its shade:

The traditional choice of every second housewife is ceramic tiles. Repairing a toilet in a Khrushchev, as in a bathroom, requires high-quality moisture-resistant and durable materials, such as tiles. Its plus is that the styling can be done by hand, it is resistant to ultraviolet light, harsh temperatures and high humidity.

Only tiles are able to protect a room from dampness and fungus, and, most importantly, it costs quite reasonable. The choice of decorative material is huge, so there is no need to worry about how much it will cost.

Design project of a small bathroom in Khrushchev in pink and white colors

  • the room only needs to be enlarged, with which only light shades have been successfully coping for many years,
  • pairs look good, like yellow and orange, white and sand green and turquoise, pink and purple,
  • tones should be soft and not irritating to the psyche,
  • saturated colors like red, black, blue, brown are best used as an addition to the main white, beige, olive and light gray,
  • to accentuate certain areas of the room, use mosaic tiles of the appropriate shade,
  • floor tiles should be slightly darker than wall tiles (example: white wall and gray floor),
  • the drawing or pattern should be minimal, it is better just for a few tiles, a bathroom that is dazzled with peas or a flower is not the best choice for modern do-it-yourself renovation.

In no case choose large slabs - they will divide the meager room in the Khrushchev into even smaller zones. Medium-sized rectangular tiles look organic.

It is better to lay the material on the walls horizontally, so the bathroom will visually stretch out in breadth. And on the floor, diagonal masonry is perfect.

How to place a bathtub and a bathroom in a combined bathroom in Khrushchev

The problems of Khrushchev's bathrooms

As already clear, the main disadvantage of combined bathrooms in Khrushchev is their small size, as a rule, their area does not exceed four square meters. It should also be noted here that at the time when the Khrushchev buildings were being designed, due attention was not paid to the placement of household appliances, which means that in order to fit a washing machine on four square meters, most likely, you will have to resort to redevelopment of the premises.

Redevelopment, as you know, is not an easy task in itself, and before starting it, you should carefully consider where and how to place the plumbing. In addition, not all ideas with redevelopment can succeed: difficulties arise with a sewer riser, which cannot be moved, and therefore, plumbing will need to be installed not where you want, but where the riser will allow.

And, finally, you need to pay attention to the interior and decor of the bathroom in order to visually expand the space, and the walls of the room did not psychologically press on the person in the bathroom.

Description: In the recent past, the bathroom was given the undeservedly cramped space in the room, and no attention was paid to its design at all.
The traditional color combination was considered to be the range of dark and light tones of ceramic tiles. Such an interior is not at all pleasing to the eye, and is unlikely to cheer up.

Today everything has changed, new trends in design art will help create a room full of comfort and style, and boundless imagination will turn your bathroom into a real corner of paradise.

The modern world provides a rich variety of various products for the correct, harmonious and beautiful bathroom design.
Also, a wide range of various accessories allows you to give each bathroom, the design of which is taken even from an ordinary renovation magazine, a unique look for every taste.

With the right approach, any bathroom, despite its size, can shine with colors of individuality. The most important thing is beauty and comfort.

Photo of the bathroom in Khrushchev: toilet, sink, bathroom

The walls and ceiling must be light, if ceramic tiles are to be used for wall cladding, then it is better to avoid large bright patterns. Tiles with a discreet or no pattern at all are much more suitable for a small bathroom.

The same applies to texture - a smooth glossy surface will visually expand the space, but if textured coatings are preferred, then it should be not pronounced and medium-sized texture.

We combine a toilet bowl, a washing machine, a sink and a water heater

As for the ceiling: it can be whitewashed, trimmed with light smooth paneling, and even better, a stretch ceiling with a glossy surface can be mounted.

And if we are talking about mirror surfaces, then the mirrors themselves cannot be neglected either - due to the reflection of the wall, the bathroom in the Khrushchev visually expands significantly.

We develop an interior - the best photos and ideas that work

When developing an interior, first you need to decide directly on the decoration of the walls, ceiling and floor. As mentioned earlier, the colors should be light, so the walls and ceiling can be made in the same color scheme: cream muted tones, and the ceiling should be lighter than the walls, and the floor should be darker in order to create a kind of gradient from light to dark, which will visually make the room taller ...

Glossy can be made not only for the walls and ceiling, but also for the floor, the only drawback of such coatings is their soiling, so it is better to immediately remove water drops from the walls and floor. Acrylic bathroom liner will save you money, time and hassle. This is one of the quickest and easiest ways to get your bathtub refurbished.

If you have started a bathroom renovation and are limited in funds, here is an inexpensive way to finish.

Light-tiled bathrooms can give the impression of a chilly operating room, so it makes sense to add some color accents to the interior. For a long time, the emphasis was on the horizontal division into the upper light and dark lower parts - this classic technique is good for large rooms, and for bathrooms in Khrushchevs, vertical lines are more suitable.

Therefore, for decoration, you can lay out a narrow strip of darker tiles from floor to ceiling - additional lines will visually raise the ceiling.

It is worth dwelling on the choice of ceramic tiles: for small bathrooms, it is better to choose medium-sized tiles - large square or rectangular details can emphasize the fact that the area of the room is small.

Photo of a small bathroom in Khrushchev. Combining a washing machine and a sink

The same rules apply to mosaics made of small squares that are so popular now - the motley decoration of the walls will further narrow the room, so it is better to leave the mosaic solely for decoration, and with a calm monochromatic combination of colors. As for plumbing, with today's variety, you can place everything you need in small spaces.

The most bulky piece of furniture in the bathroom, of course, is the bathtub itself - now manufacturers offer not only long bathtubs, but also non-standard ones with a reduced length, when using which you can easily free up space for a washing machine.

Photo of the bathroom "rainbow"

With the small size of the room, sit-down baths combined with shower cabins are practical - they take up a little more space than an ordinary shower room, but functionally it significantly surpasses them.

For the smallest bathrooms, separate showers are perfect, and if you choose glass doors or partitions near the shower, the space will be perceived as one with the entire bathroom.

Corner baths, which, among other things, are also functional, will significantly save space in the room - their design includes shelves for storing care products. There should not be any difficulties when choosing a sink for a bathroom - extremely compact sinks with dimensions of no more than 55 × 40 centimeters are now on the market.

Photo of the bathroom where they could fit the washing machine.

You can experiment with the placement of the sink, such as overlapping the tub so that the side of the sink partially overlaps the side of the tub. For very small rooms, manufacturers have provided corner sinks that will not take away a single centimeter of usable area.

The models of toilet bowls are also very diverse now, for small rooms for a long time and successfully used toilets with installations inscribed in a corner - due to the hidden cistern, the room looks modern, and at the same time additional space appears.

An effective technique for small bathrooms in Khrushchev will be the use of sinks and toilets that are attached to the wall and do not touch the floor. Due to its "soaring" in the air, such plumbing is not perceived as cumbersome, and the room retains space.

It is especially justified to use such "floating" sinks to place a low washing machine under it - now manufacturers of household appliances offer automatic machines with a height of no more than 70 centimeters, this design saves space very seriously.

The photo of the bathroom is strict, laconic, beautiful.

With the right approach, even small bathrooms in Khrushchevs can accommodate all the necessary household and plumbing fixtures, while the room will seem spacious.

To do this, it is enough to heed our advice: choose the right tiles for walls and floors, combine plumbing fixtures and choose a suitable washing machine - and even such a problematic room as a combined bathroom in a Khrushchev building will become cozy, comfortable and functional.

Bathroom design ideas in Khrushchev

Khrushchev is not a sentence

With the advent of modern plumbing, the situation began to change, now even in such a small area, which was taken by the Khrushchev for the bathroom, it is possible to change its design for the better, to make it more convenient and functional. When using compact modern sanitary ware, the bathroom expands not only visually, but also accommodates such devices that you had never even dreamed of before.

First of all, the design of the bathroom changes noticeably for the better when replacing the standard bathtub with its modern version, preferably a corner one. Such a replacement will immediately free up space, which is quite sufficient for installing a washing machine, because the Khrushchev has such a small kitchen that it is difficult to install a washing machine in it.

We correctly "hide" the washing machine

Modern plumbing manufacturers offer interesting solutions, thanks to which the small area that the bathroom has in the Khrushchev is used in the most optimal way. There are two original models of washing machines on sale, each of which changes the design of the room in an original way, and a small bathroom acquires more space.

Photo of the bathroom. Small but pretty. Pink and beige colors

One of the models is designed to be installed under the sink, which is sold with the washing machine, giving the bathroom an improved interior design. The second model surprises buyers who saw it only in the photo. What to say about those who could see it in action!

The washing machine is called flop. Its installation saves not only a small area of the bathroom, but also water. It is installed above the toilet, combined with the flush function in it. This real miracle of technology has such an original design that only its presence in the bathroom gives the room a unique design.

Or maybe ... remove everything?

A revolutionary solution used in bathroom remodeling is a floor drain and a complete rejection of a bath or shower. Only the shower device itself is installed, and an impact-resistant glass partition is installed to protect the bathroom walls from splashes. The glass can be frosted, which will allow you to give some intimacy to taking a shower, and for convenience and visual expansion of the space, they are made sliding.

The photos of such a device presented in the magazines amaze with the spaciousness that the bathroom has after reconstruction. Many simply do not understand how the Khrushchev gets such space.

Everything is done simply - the pipes are hidden in the wall, and if it is impossible to hide them in the plane of the wall, they are closed with boxes, refined with tiles. At the same time, the upper planes of such boxes serve as shelves for toiletries.

The toilet is placed either angular, which significantly saves space, or does not require a cistern and is attached directly to the wall. The walls are made in light colors, and the floor is covered with tiles, the color of which is identical to the color of the walls.

The sink for washing is combined with a washing machine, or a glass is installed, completely invisible against the general background. The interior is complemented by a large mirror, which gives a unique visual effect, and wall cabinets, with their color merging with the walls.

This design, complemented by shiny heated towel rails, and bright spots in the form of towels and other accessories, will make the standard bathroom, which was previously the Khrushchev, a place that is pleasant to visit.

There are many Khrushchevs in the country today. Previously, people were less picky about design, and it was enough for them that the necessary attributes were available in the apartment. But today tastes have changed. Almost all tenants are dissatisfied with the layout bathroom in Khrushchev.

Due to the uncomplicated design, it is sometimes impossible to place the necessary plumbing equipment in this room. Sometimes you even have to sacrifice something for the sake of comfort. The scanty dimensions of the room do not let your imagination run wild; therefore, each element is carefully thought out in order to make the best use of the space.
Superfluous elements are excluded. Better if the bathtub is combined with a toilet, and even captures a section of the corridor. In a separate bathroom, the situation is even more complicated. Therefore, the combined layout becomes an option that expands the possibilities for placing the necessary elements. Additional costs will be required for rework. But, this will allow you to place everything you need and divide the space into zones.

Bathroom design in Khrushchev

Another problem is the location of the communications. Often you have to do the wiring and hide the pipes in the walls. Then the surface is also leveled (the builders at that time did not try very hard in this direction). Sometimes it's even better to break and rebuild the wall yourself than to straighten the original one.

Before thinking over the design, they make accurate measurements of the room. Then they search magazines and the Internet for ready-made interior solutions with the given parameters, after which they start developing their own design. The question of where to locate the main plumbing equipment is being resolved. Then they think over the decoration elements, choosing shelves, cabinets and so on.

Plumbing manufacturers know what problems the residents of Khrushchevs face. Therefore, they develop equipment suitable for small dimensions.
Think about the bath first. Old cast-iron ones - today the tenants seem too cumbersome for such a small room. But, the corner version will take up much less space, freeing up space for other details. And in some houses, they refuse to take a bath altogether. Instead of them, shower cabins are installed.
Saves space and attachments: toilets and sinks ... They are attached directly to the wall. Such details will allow you to rationally calculate the design of the bathroom.

Saves space and attachments: toilets and sinks

In some cases, if it is impossible to combine a separate bathroom, they refuse from the washbasin and install taps above the bathroom.
All details are selected in miniature sizes. Furniture items of specified non-standard dimensions are ordered if the store does not have them.

Let's consider separately the methods of finishing the ceiling, walls and floor.

Tiles or mosaics are traditionally used for wall decoration.

In a square-shaped room, the main elements are placed in the corners.... Then the space in the center remains free. The same placement is done in the case of choosing a shower cabin instead of a bath.
A person should feel free being in any position. It is necessary to ensure that it is comfortable to stand, sit or do the cleaning. This will help the niches for the legs, allowing you to get as close to the bath as possible.

If the bathroom is combined, then they adhere to the standard gaps between the installed elements and surfaces. So, the free space in front of the bathroom is made from 70 to 100 centimeters for easy entry and exit. Set up towel racks so that they can be easily reached from the bathtub. The distance between the toilet bowl, wall and other objects should be at least 20 centimeters, and 40 centimeters were kept in front of the toilet. The sink is located 25 centimeters from the toilet and 20 centimeters from the side wall. In front of it must be maintained at least 70 centimeters of free space.
Access to communications is hidden, but left free.

In a square-shaped room, the main elements are placed in the corners.

Design novelty in the case of a rectangular shape, it is installed at the end of the font room... Then the sink is located next to the exit, and the toilet is located away from the entrance.
More often bathroom in Khrushchev equipped with a shower instead of a bath. Moreover, ready-made shower cabins give way to fenced areas in the floor. Such a shower is compact, devoid of high sides and minimizes the risk of flooding neighbors. The only nuance to which you need to adjust: the floor will be about ten centimeters higher. This is necessary to install the drain. It is fenced off from the rest of the room with a glass partition. The best option for this is transparent sliding doors.

Competent room design includes well-thought-out pieces of furniture. Designers suggest abandoning lockers with wide open doors. Better to choose open shelves or give preference to cabinets with sliding doors. A bathroom washbasin cabinet is an excellent choice. But if installation is impossible, you will have to equip the hanging version by placing it above the washbasin next to the mirror. Such models don't have to be deep. A tall cabinet looks advantageous - a pencil case.

In addition to the placement of bathroom accessories, this is a good element for dividing the room into zones.
Not only bathroom in Khrushchev differs in small dimensions. The kitchens are also extremely small here. Therefore, most often, the washing machine is located in the bathroom. The technique is chosen in a compact size.

Often the washing machine is installed under the washbasin.

Often the washing machine is installed under the washbasin. built into the wall. Another option is to place her on the podium., over the toilet. For this, there are special washing machines called "flop". With them, in addition to space, water is saved, since the equipment is installed in an integrated way with a drain barrel.

Color solutions can visually enlarge the space. This is helped by the alternation of colors. For example, dark inserts are added to light tiles. Thanks to the mosaic on the ledges, they look more compact.

Light shades make the space larger, and combinations with dark ones deeper. Mirror surfaces seem to push the walls apart. Suspended plumbing increases the space that is freed up by the open floor. Austere lines can remove the feeling of clutter.

The general background is best done in a neutral color. Then one of the walls is highlighted with a bright shade. At the same time, a rich "stain" is created with the help of additional elements: a rug, a bath curtain or a laundry basket.

Color solutions can visually enlarge the space

It is desirable that bathroom in Khrushchev had several light sources. The upper one is standardly mounted in the ceiling. Floor lighting is provided below. It is able to give the room a special gloss. But he is rarely chosen. It is more appropriate to place the side light above the mirror. You need to achieve a bright, uniform light. Additional lighting can be installed in the shower and niche.

A mirror must be installed in this room. It is more convenient to place it above the washbasin. In this case, it is not necessary to strictly supplement the plumbing fixture. The mirror may be irregular, longer or wider than the sink. In the shower, mirrors are also installed on the walls. The main thing is that they are not located one opposite the other. If the bathroom has a window, then the mirror is installed opposite. It should also hang in front of the entrance.

White bathroom

The effect of infinity will be obtained if you decorate the wall with a drawing with a perspective (a sailing ship), or simulate a panorama (opening in a window). Experiment, develop your artistic ability and use your creative imagination.

Conclusion

Knowbathroom in Khrushchev - not a sentence... If you think over everything to the smallest detail, correctly arrange plumbing and furniture, insert decorative elements, the design will turn out to be beautiful and modern. In a small room, elegance is achieved that sets the tone for the rest of the rooms. With the right approach, a cramped, uncomfortable bathroom will turn into a favorite place where residents will rest and gain strength for an active and successful day.

Bathroom design in Khrushchev

Bathroom in Khrushchev 46 photo ideas:

In winter, unexpectedly and unexpectedly, a major overhaul came to our forty-year-old Khrushchev. But still, as they say, whatever is done is for the best. Looking at how plumbers changed the old cast-iron Khrushchev risers for polypropylene and PVC, I finally gathered my thoughts and realized that if I don't start major repairs in the bathroom and toilet now, I will never start it in this house.

Initial data and idea

The bathroom in my Khrushchev is separate. The dimensions of the bathroom in the light are 1520 * 1360 mm, but with certain manipulations they can be increased by 5-6 cm in each dimension, which I will discuss below.

The main idea of the new bathroom was to turn the bathtub 90 degrees and orient it along the far wall (opposite the front door). In our opinion with my wife, this position is more rational, although we understood that we would lose a dozen centimeters in length.

Preparatory work

To prepare for the immediate start of work in the bathroom, I took about two weeks to decide on the project of the future bathroom: to draw up the layout of the water supply and sewerage system, ventilation, the tile laying scheme, etc.

So, what is a bathroom in a typical panel Khrushchev? In fact, this is just a cabin, which was cast somewhere on the DSK and already assembled was installed in its place in the Khrushchev during construction. The walls of the cab have a scanty thickness of 3-5 cm and are made with reinforced gypsum concrete. The material is very weak and easily crumbles with a hammer drill or even a hammer. In the picture below, the walls of the "cabin" are shaded and, as we can see, they are adjacent to two load-bearing walls of the Khrushchev, in one of which (between the kitchen and the bathroom) there are ventilation shafts.

In the repair practice, the most common option is the demolition of the Khrushchev partition between the toilet and the bathroom, which supposedly makes the bathroom more spacious and a lot of extra space appears. However, in my opinion, this is the most common delusion: no matter how much I tried to hypothetically design such a "spacious" combined bathroom in my Khrushchev, nothing came of it.

As I already said, the dimensions of the bathroom in my Khrushchev in the light are 1360 * 1520 mm. On the long side we had a 150 cm bathtub, which we decided to replace by 140 cm and put it on the short side. For this, from the existing dimensions, I lacked 4 cm, which I decided to get by demolishing the bathroom wall adjacent to the supporting wall of the Khrushchev with ventilation shafts. This "drywall" was smashed with an ordinary bricklayer's hammer in just three to four hours. The hardest part was taking out almost two full baths of construction waste. The mesh is carefully cut with a grinder.

Alas, I cannot demonstrate the old, pre-renovated view of the Khrushchev's bathroom, but believe me, everything was very sad there.

I warn you that by demolishing the Khrushchev wall, you are depriving the ceiling of one point of support. It is folded with the same gypsum concrete and is part of an integral "cabin". It can also be dismantled, but I decided to simply strengthen the bathroom ceiling by supporting it with a 40 * 50 mm bar and 10 * 100mm dowels - this is quite enough.

Two of the four walls in the Khrushchev bathroom turned out to be crooked, with a blockage up to 3 cm, so I had to deal with their alignment.

After I renovated the kitchen and the corridor in my Khrushchev, I already had some plastering skills, but in the bathroom I decided to apply a different method of leveling the walls, which I really liked. Holes are drilled in the wall in several rows, self-tapping screws are twisted in them, the heads of which are set in level and thus the reference points of a new, even and strictly vertical plane are obtained (in the first picture below, you can see the self-tapping screws sticking out of the wall on the right). We prime the walls and wait 1.5-2 hours. Next, we take slabs of moisture-resistant plasterboard 1500 * 600 mm, which are ideally adjusted to the dimensions of our wall in Khrushchev (1520 mm) and "glued" to the wall with a special adhesive solution for drywall. Unlike plaster, the adhesive hardens faster (up to 20 minutes), so the boards do not slip. The composition is applied with "buns" every 15-20 cm, on which the gypsum board is laid and touched with a mallet or pressed with a rule so that the plane of the plate coincides with the plane of the previously set self-tapping screw heads.

The joints between the slabs are sealed either with the same compound, or simply with plaster. The time for leveling the wall takes only 20 minutes, that is, exactly as much as the adhesive composition diluted in a bucket freezes.

Try to move 120 kilograms from its place, and then take it out so as not to bomb half the apartment in Khrushchev (already repaired, by the way). I watched a video on YouTube of how these cast-iron bathtubs are cut with grinders, drilled with drills, even smashed with pood weights! (cast iron is brittle and can be chipped / broken). However, my wife's uncle stopped me in time and said that all these baths are easy to take out if you do everything correctly and skillfully.

While the uncle was at the entrance to the house, I managed to shake the bathtub in one person, put it on the bottom and remove the legs. The thresholds were covered with thick rugs, and soft tourist rugs were laid on the way of our movement from the apartment. In such an upright position, we neatly carried the bathtub to the landing of the Khrushchev and further up the stairs we carried it out into the street without any problems. On this day, our apartment lost its last native element - an old Soviet cast-iron bathtub.

So, now I have nowhere to wash in Khrushchev, so I need to act quickly and quickly so that the new bath will stand still at least in three or four days. The first thing to do is water supply and sewerage.

Plumbing and sewerage

I changed the old cast-iron sewer in the Khrushchev a year earlier, now I just had to change the layout of the PVC pipes of the Khrushchev and do one very time-consuming piece of work - chipping the wall for the sewer and water supply at the future sink site (in the picture, this is on the right).

Shtrobing the bearing walls of a Khrushchev is not a good thing, and it is doubly bad if you git horizontally and not vertically. But on construction forums and a number of sites, information was found that if the depth of the chasing does not exceed a third of the power of the Khrushchev wall, then this type of work is still possible, or, as the builders put it more simply, it is possible to chase until the first reinforcement, no further.

Armed with a powerful hammer drill and a grinder with a diamond disc for concrete, I began this dirty work. From self-protection means, it is imperative to have a respirator, goggles and gloves.

In total, it took me about 4 hours to chisel. The depth and width of the groove is such that a 32 mm diameter sewer pipe can be installed in it. It is imperative that a slight slope of the pipe (5 degrees) be provided on a horizontal section to ensure water flow. We remove the sewer pipe from the groove using angled elbows (at 45 degrees) and install an adapter from a diameter of 32 mm to 50 mm (the main diameter of the sewer). This part of the sewer will already be hidden by the bathroom (blue mark on the wall), so there is no need to deal with further strobing.

We collect the sewage system observing the same rule - the slope towards the riser should be about 5 degrees so that the water does not stagnate in the pipes, but flows normally.

A little trick: in order for PVC pipes to join easily, lubricate them with liquid soap.

This is the wiring left behind by the plumbers who changed the riser in the house.

I don’t know if it could have been done somehow more practical and easier? I think it was possible. Two polypropylene ball valves (32 mm) and a bridge between them are not a basic option. I asked the plumbers to make such a structure so that I could install a heated towel rail myself, without involving anyone. Without a jumper, during the installation of the towel, I would have to leave my entire Khrushchev without hot water.

I drew a diagram of the future wiring of the water supply and sewerage system of the Khrushchev's bathroom on a sheet of paper. It is necessary, including in order to correctly calculate the number of fittings and pipes needed to purchase.

With this scheme, I went to the construction market, once again consulted with the seller and bought everything I needed. From him, from the seller, I took a special soldering iron for polypropylene pipes for a week. I had no experience with such a tool, but I saw how plumbers do it, and YouTube is always at hand. For training, before the main work, I took a couple of extra couplings to indulge in - the soldering process is quick and not at all complicated.

What you need to know when installing a water supply system from polypropylene pipes:

Pipes come in a variety of diameters, but 16 mm (1/2 in.) Pipes are most commonly used for water supply and 32 mm (1 in.) For heated towel rails.

Pipes are available separately for hot and cold water supply. Hot water pipes have an internal reinforcement that is visible in the cut (red).

Sellers can say that the water in our pipes is not so hot, so you don't have to steam and put the same pipes for cold water supply, however, in this case, they can and will definitely give deformation (stretch) from temperature, which can be quite unpleasant. For example, in my case, the plumbers who changed the risers during the overhaul of the Khrushchev house cost one type of pipes (for cold water) and when hot water began to circulate in the system, then these pipes simply crawled away and my jumper became a curve (see the photo of the toilet above).

You can solder pipes in one person, but it is more convenient to do it together: one holds the soldering iron, and the second puts fittings on it, heats up and joins. My wife helped me to solder the pipes - it was the best March 8 for her)).

It is better to collect small elements and units separately and then dock them to the main water supply. The picture above shows the nodes that will "go" to the kitchen: the outlets for the kitchen faucet and the outlet for the washing machine.

The pipes are cut with special scissors, but if they are not there, then this is easily done with a grinder or a hacksaw for metal, in which case it will simply be necessary to process the edges of the pipes with sandpaper or the same grinder so that there are no notches and the cut is even.

The soldering iron must be warmed up to operating temperature. We put fittings tightly on it on both sides, which must be connected, count to 8 and then quickly remove the fittings and join evenly. The most important thing in this matter after the docking has taken place is in no case to correct or turn the fittings, even if they did not dock exactly as you would like. Such a loose connection can then leak.

It is also necessary to control that the pipe enters the fitting to a sufficient depth (determined by the inner boundary of the socket of the fitting).

An ideal joint is one where a rim / ring made of molten polypropylene evenly bends around the pipe. In no case should you cut it off!

Well, in general, all the basic recommendations. I don’t know if it’s right or not, but I soldered my plumbing in Khrushchev from the kitchen to the riser in the toilet, and not vice versa. It took me a whole day to dismantle the old one and install a new water supply and sewerage system in Khrushchev. Plastic plugs (red in the photo) are screwed into the outputs on the faucets, so far there is only water in the kitchen. We turn on the water, open the faucet in the kitchen and check the system for leaks. Lucky - not a single leak was found.

One more point regarding the piping to the mixers. For a faucet in a washbasin, the distance between the pipes does not really matter, because the connection will be made with flexible hoses, but the bathroom faucet has a fixed distance between the pipes - 150 mm. Therefore, the distance between the centers of the fittings that lead to the mixer must be exactly 150 mm. If you haven't guessed by a couple of millimeters, then it's okay - you can then adjust it using "ducks" (special sleeves on which the mixer pipes are screwed).

The next stage of work is laying tiles on the floor. I decided to revet the entire floor of the Khrushchev, including under the future bathroom: the overpayment is insignificant, and the effect is much more pleasant.

I did not do any preliminary leveling of the surface, no self-leveling floors, etc. In the evening, the rough floor of the Khrushchev was treated with a Ceresit CT16 paint primer, and the next morning, my wife's uncle arrived - he is our veneer. He laid the floor under the level, and the unevenness was corrected with the thickness of the adhesive solution.

Keramin tile. Manhattan Collection (gray). Two years earlier, we laid the same tiles in the corridor and kitchen of our Khrushchev. We decided that in our little Khrushchev building everything should be done in the same style - no Gzhel and gypsyism, which annoyed the lining uncle for a long time.

In place under the bath, the tiles left over from that repair were laid, as you can see, it differs in tone from the new tile purchased.

After the glue dries, the next day, I hollowed out a niche in the gypsum concrete wall, which will be located above the bathroom and is intended for shampoos and other small bottles. Alabaster grabbed the water pipes in the gutter and then plastered everything. I did not do this before laying the tiles because I had to adjust to the tiling schedule.

Bath installation and manufacturing of a screen under the bath

While I was waiting for couriers with a new bathroom, I began to align the second curve of the Khrushchev wall (wall with a door). The same slabs of moisture-resistant drywall were used, the joints between which were covered with plaster. The corners that are visible in the frame were intended for attaching shelves to them for the entire width of the wall (for basins, etc.). In the course of the work, the veneer suggested a slightly different method of manufacturing and fixing such a shelf (I will describe it later).

I also brought out a socket with several degrees of protection (a special socket for bathrooms) and soldered pipes for a heated towel rail. Later, it will remain to screw in the corner brass "American women" into them and hang a "towel" on them.

Finally, a new bathtub arrived. Be sure to arrange an inspection of the product together with couriers on the street, after which they bring it into the apartment and put it on the priest in the bathroom.

Here we need to start a conversation about the eternal: what kind of bath should be - acrylic, steel or cast iron? You can argue and argue endlessly, but I will not do this, because this is a topic for a separate article. Personally, I liked the German steel bath Kaldewei Saniform Plus 140 * 70. Is steel noisy? Does it hold the temperature poorly? Calm down dear, all this is not about her. There are steel baths on sale with a wall thickness of 2 and even 1.3 mm, and this one has a record 3.5 mm. I read a bunch of negative and sometimes horrifying reviews about modern cast-iron baths, about the unsatisfactory quality of casting, about how the enamel is already starting to turn yellow literally after a month or two of operation ... Kaldewei Saniform Plus turned out to be the only bathroom, about which there was not a single negative review, but on the contrary, the owners were happy with everything. So I bought it and did not regret it.

I installed the 40-kilogram bath in one person, without assistants, which could not have been done with a cast-iron product. I installed a siphon / semiautomatic device on it, put legs,

and then gently put it on the floor. Two levels lay on the sides of the bath (long and short), along which, with the help of adjustable legs, I installed the product strictly horizontally. No bullying towards the drain !!! Absolutely all baths have a bottom slope, which ensures a normal flow of water. To exclude the slightest hesitation, the bath must be wedged: wooden wedges are hammered between the wall and the side.

Noise test showed that the noise of falling water in this bathtub differs little from that in the old cast-iron one. If you continue to be skeptical about this case, then buy a couple of sheets of car noise insulation and glue them to the bottom and sides of the bath.

Now that the bathtub is wedged out and does not wobble, you can start making the screen. To begin with, general provisions:

If you want to make a really good renovation, then refuse any purchased screens under the bath.

The screen under the bathroom should be tiled - this is both beautiful and hygienic.

Forget about the last century and in no case do these squalid foot niches. Earlier, when they washed in basins or in the bathroom, they may have been needed by the housewives, but today we live in the age of washing machines, so why not these niches that nobody needs.

The screen should provide emergency access to the pipes, so a small part (in the area of the siphon) should either be left open or covered with a piece of tile, which can be easily removed if necessary. It is not at all necessary to install inspection hatches made of steel or plastic.

Also, make the screen strictly vertical, do not experiment with all sorts of inclined surfaces. They can spoil the geometry of the room.

Well, now let's start making a screen for a bath with our own hands. For the frame of the screen, we need steel profiles of 27 * 27 mm for drywall. Based on the videos on YouTube, I made a preliminary markup under the bathtub (at the bottom left of the frame, you can see pencil marks and a long line along the entire length of the bathtub). In general, the markup is done like this:

From the side of the bathtub on the wall along the level, draw a vertical line to the floor - this is the first notch on the floor.

From the first notch, we retreat inward a distance equal to the width of the bent edge of the bath rim and set the second notch.

From the second notch we retreat the distance equal to the thickness of the tile and the layer of glue (third notch) and, finally, we retreat another 12 mm (thickness of the drywall sheet) and get the fourth notch.

The fourth notch will be the edge of our steel frame for the bathtub. Using a level and a ruler, retreat the resulting distance from the other side of the bath. Draw a straight line between the serifs. We will attach the profile along it.

The steel profile is trimmed with a grinder, to give the structure rigidity, two profiles are folded and twisted with self-tapping screws. To save myself from unnecessarily drilling holes in the floor of the Khrushchev, I glued the lower profile with silicone sealant. The most important thing in this matter is to first reliably degrease the surfaces to be glued with white spirit or acetone. Then we apply silicone sealant and strongly press the profile to the floor. In about an hour and a half, it will practically not be ripped off. The upper profile is glued to the side of the bath in the same way. Bars can be inserted into the gaps between the bathtub and the profile, again for stiffening.

The vertical ribs near the wall must already be mounted on dowels (here you cannot do without drilling), and the middle vertical ribs - on self-tapping screws.

Before we sew up the space with a sheet of drywall, we put a ground wire on the bath (attached to the black ear on the left in the top photo).

Finally, a sheet of drywall with a cut-out for access to the siphon under the bathroom takes its place. The dimensions of the cutout are 260x400 mm. Drywall is attached to the profile with self-tapping screws. So, the manufacture of a screen for a bath in my Khrushchev is over.

Room cladding

Again, in the evening I primed all the walls and the screen under the bathroom with Ceresit CT19 primer paint. When working with it, I strongly recommend that you thoroughly cover the bath with an old bedspread or sheet and immediately wipe off the primer if it gets on the enamel or tiles - it will be too difficult to remove it later, after drying.

At the stage of preparatory work, I drew up a layout of tiles from the Keramin "Manhattan" and Italian Alta Ceramica collections ("La Petra di Volta" collection. An apron in the kitchen was laid out with Italian tiles and we are delighted with it.

The bathroom cladding took two and a half working days. The most difficult work was in the diagonal laying of Italian tiles, but our cladder successfully coped with the task.

Ultimately, the niche was made not dark, as in the layout diagram, but light. In the frame, you can already see the new Wassercraft mixer with a short spout, located not at the end of the bathtub, as usual, but on the side, so that it is convenient to regulate the flow of water without getting out of the bathtub.

And here is the shelf above the front door, already tiled. Made of two sheets of thin drywall (6mm) screwed to a wooden frame (boards 100x18 mm). Basins and containers with clean towels are now stored on this shelf.

The wiring for the fan and hanging cabinet was pre-wired.

Well, somehow it happened. Upon completion of the work, even the skeptical uncle of his wife melted away - he really liked the result of our idea and his work. There is a place for access to communications on the right under the bathroom.

Installation of hanging cabinets, etc.

After all the seams were filled in, it was time to install the rest of the Khrushchev bathroom furniture. I liked the mirror cabinet from the Russian manufacturer "Aquaton". All the small rubbish (deodorants, shaving products, wife's cosmetics) and even a place still remained in it. Visually, the cabinet practically does not eat up the space in the bathroom of the Khrushchev, because of the mirror it is not even immediately possible to understand that this is a cabinet at all.

The fan was bought from the Spanish manufacturer Cataco - always with a cord. That is, the fan power is combined with the Khrushchev bathroom light switch, but it is always possible to turn off the device with this very cord.

I closed the inspection hole not with a wretched hatch, but with a piece of tile, to which the striking strips of furniture magnets were glued. The seam between the tiles was sealed with a sealant in the color of the fugue. It turned out a seemingly monolithic screen under the bathroom, but in which case the sealant will simply be cut off, and the tile is removed with a suction cup - access to communications is open.

The heated towel rail was one of the last to hang. In order not to damage the brass "American" when tightening the thread, I recommend holding a thick rag between the key and the nut. Well, yes, the threads are packed either with tow and unipack, or with a thick Teflon thread. For greater reliability, I also recommend buying several gaskets for an inch pipe (I forgot what material they are from, but they do not squeeze through because they are rubber).

I put water on a towel - everything is sealed. Lucky again.

For a long time we could not decide on a hanging cabinet and a washbasin for the bathroom, but at the very last moment we found a wonderful product from AM&PM Like 80 cm -for this unfortunate centim, we will have to take the curbstone already. But as it turned out, 80 cm is the width of the washbasin, and it protrudes beyond the dimensions of the cabinet by 1 cm in each direction, so the width of the cabinet is 78 cm, which naturally suits us. Tunic in tunic you can say))

The choice in favor of a hanging cabinet was because visually it is not as bulky as the floor one. Plus, again, there is always access to the siphon under the bathroom (remember about the revision hole). The photo also shows an outlet with a protective shield.

The Wassercraft faucet is from the same series as on the bathroom - cute, angular as we like)) The sink has a bottom valve with a click-clack system (pressed - you can draw water into the sink, pressed again - flushed water).

This is the kind of room we got at the finish of the main work.
