Cordyceps mushroom application. Cordyceps mushroom, truth and fiction, useful properties

A small and inconspicuous mushroom at a price literally more expensive than gold ... Is this possible? For a kilogram of this mushroom, depending on its quality and season, they give from 500 thousand rubles to 5 million! For this money, you can buy a good car or even an apartment ...

And what is it about him that they ask for that kind of money? Let's take a closer look.

This article draws on materials from the Disease Control Department of the Thai Ministry of Health, the Health Promotion Foundation, Dr. Somiot Kitkankong, Team Leader for Tuberculosis, AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Diseases. Those looking for doctors' reviews on Cordyceps will be pleased.

So what is this wonderful mushroom?

Many people think that cordyceps is a Chinese mushroom, some are looking for Tibetan cordyceps. There is also a fairly well-known MLM company Tianshi, which has a range of cordyceps. As it sometimes happens, representatives of this company write on their websites that only Chinese cordyceps is good for health - the rest are even dangerous.

In fact, cordyceps grows in Tibet, the Himalayas, India, Bhutan, Nepal and some regions of China - Qinghai, Sichuan, Yunnan, Gansu. Information that some “non-Chinese” varieties of cordyceps are harmful to health (if it is not a fake), I have not seen. On the contrary, I came across one scientific study, which, among other things, compared the composition of mushrooms collected in different provinces of China and Tibet. No significant differences were found.

Outwardly, cordyceps looks like a worm or larva. And surprisingly, it also sprouts from insect larvae. This is a pretty interesting natural process. A larva that lives at a depth of 10-15 cm underground and feeds on plant roots may accidentally eat the spores of the fungus at the end of summer. This is how her organism becomes "infected" and gradually transforms into a new form. The spores of the fungus spread throughout the body for 100-120 days, practically without affecting the vital activity of the larva. Then, within 4-5 days, sudden and painful transformations for the larva occur, causing it to strive to get out from under the ground. So it rises to the surface and dies at a depth of 4-5 cm. Its body hardens, and after a couple of months a new fungus grows on the surface, which grows and spreads its spores from April to late summer.

This transformation from one state to another is reflected in oriental folklore, and even the local names of the mushroom cordyceps in some countries are translated as "mushroom worm" or something similar.

By the way, many people confuse cordyceps with other useful mushrooms and are looking for something like “Cordyceps Reishi”, “Cordyceps Ganoderma”, “Lingzhi Cordyceps”. Cordyceps and Reishi (aka Ganoderma or Lingzhi) are different mushrooms. And so can be called complexes in capsules containing both mushrooms in their composition.

Yes, cordyceps is a very rare mushroom - this largely explains its high cost. Modern researchers are conducting experiments on the industrial reproduction of the process of infecting larvae with spores of the fungus and attempts to establish its mass cultivation. But so far these attempts have not been crowned with success.

Yes, it is considered a good alternative to Viagra - there are no unnecessary side effects, and the high demand for Cordyceps for potency can also affect its cost.

But what else is cordyceps useful for?

Cordyceps mushroom - medicinal properties and contraindications

Before talking about the healing properties of cordyceps, I want to make an important disclaimer. The cordyceps mushroom should not be taken for long periods of time. If you are under the supervision of your doctor, be sure to coordinate the reception of cordyceps with him. It is contraindicated in older people with high blood pressure or diabetes. Cordyceps can raise blood pressure and this must be considered.

But still, it has a lot of useful properties:

  1. Strengthening immunity and giving vitality
  2. Removes free radicals from the body. Slows down the aging process, cell degradation
  3. Improves mood, acts as a sedative - relieves irritation, has a sedative effect

  20. Helps Normalize Menstrual Cycles
  21. Increases potency, increases blood flow to the genitals. Improves sperm quality. According to studies, the use of one gram of cordyceps per day for one and a half months increases sexual activity by 64%

Personal experience and results of taking cordyceps

A long time ago, 17 years ago, doctors miraculously saved me. There was a frozen pregnancy, for 5 weeks I walked with a dead child inside and it all ended in resuscitation. There was not a single healthy organ. Standard treatment didn't work, it only made things worse. And so, at the age of 20, they give me a forecast: in this state, people do not live for more than 5 years and they offer to issue a disability ... But I did not agree with the doctors. For several years I followed their treatment program, but I got worse and worse ... And one fine day I just took my medical card with me and never came back to the hospital.

I was looking for an alternative. It took several years to find something effective, but nothing helped: even simple vitamins made me feel worse ...

And then I met a network company that was selling a miracle elixir based on linga and cordyceps. No, it was not Tyanshi. I will not say the name of the company, because the quality of the products changed there, after which I left. In just a month of taking a loading dose, I was able to take off the collar and corset, without which I could not walk, gained 10 kg of weight (from 35 to 45 with a height of 158 cm) and with a confident gait, for the first time in several years, I was able to walk without assistance. Yes, every step at first cost me severe pain, but every day it became easier for me.

The treatment course cost my parents several thousand dollars, but this money quickly returned, since everyone who saw my result also rushed to buy these miracle mushrooms and my structure very quickly grew and the company received rewards. The company had the opportunity to undergo training in the eastern system of health restoration, the principles of 5 primary elements and other interesting things. It was from this company that my study of oriental medicine came.

As the leader of a large structure, I traveled to different cities and met people who received incredible health results: I saw people who, taking cordyceps, left oncology and many other terrible diseases. People told stories that are hard to believe. My story was also one of them. And the people I have worked with have had amazing results, too. The miracle elixir really did wonders!

But after a couple of years there were fewer and fewer new stories of healings ... Yes, I myself noticed that if earlier it was enough to drop a couple of drops of the elixir under the tongue to pass the flu, now even a few bottles did not help ... It became obvious that having earned a big name and gained a lot stories of miraculous healing, the company's management began to economize on quality, probably by significantly reducing the concentration of cordyceps in the elixir. Therefore, it is very important to decide correctly for yourself.

Online payouts were making good money, and by that time I had become the company's business coach. But initially I came to the company not for money, but for the opportunity to help others heal. And when I saw that this was no longer there, I left the company. They called me from other network companies with an attempt to entice me to myself, and with one of these calls I heard in the receiver: "Come and I will tell you this, after which you will not touch cordyceps and lingzhi anymore!" I refused, and she immediately added: "You do not know what these drugs do to your body!"

I do not like to waste time on such meetings, so I still fished out this super classified information from her. She talked about how immunostimulants kill a person's own immunity, and then he is forced to sit on them all his life! Like a drug that is hard to get off.

If I had not taken these drugs myself and if they had not saved my life, perhaps I would have believed her. But my experience told the opposite! Nevertheless, I noticed logical reasons in her message and studied the issue. She was partly right, but not completely. Each question can be flipped in the right direction, emphasizing one information and omitting another.

In general, I conducted a personal study, having studied all available sources of information on this issue and personal experience and came to the following conclusions:

  • "Is it possible with the help of immunostimulants to inflict time on the body?" Undoubtedly! Even clean water drunk in excessive quantities can be harmful, everything is good in moderation.
  • "Can this be prevented?" Of course!

Immunostimulants should be used only to get out of the disease. They give a tangible spurt, activate the protective and restorative processes of the body and actively restore it.

After the end of the long-term use of the immunostimulant, it is necessary to immediately begin a course of taking vitamin supplements and drugs that strengthen the immune system. Otherwise, there is a high probability that immediately after canceling the long-term use of the immunostimulant, you will very quickly catch some kind of infection.

Has Cordyceps Affected My Immunity Negatively? Probably. I drank it a lot and for a long time, but the body stopped at the state that I reached for the first 3 months and there was no further improvement. There is a possibility that cordyceps exacerbated my congenital hypersensitivity. But, most importantly, I am alive, I can live a full life and I was even able to start a family and become a mother!

Having already moved to Thailand, I bought several packs of cordyceps in China just in case. Also, acquaintances asked for themselves. And then I began to study Thai herbs and made my first aid kit for various illnesses such as flu, colds and eating disorders, and never returned to cordyceps.

My opinion is that cordyceps is something you shouldn't joke with. It is worth drinking it in extreme cases and not to abuse it: drink no more than a month and take a break of at least 3 months. In severe conditions, you can drink at a high dosage for up to 3 months and then be sure to drink something to restore the independent work of immunity.

Why nothing helped me, but cordyceps helped?

It is thanks to the inclusion and strengthening of immunity that incredible healings of diseases incurable in official medicine, including autoimmune ones, occur.

Unfortunately, there are other more sad stories related to this mushroom. There were cases when, in pursuit of profit, employees of the network company "prescribed" horse doses of cordyceps to patients and did not recommend taking chemical preparations. So several people died of tuberculosis while taking cordyceps. And in both cases they were young guys ... Both refused treatment in official medicine and trusted Cordyceps. And they drank cordyceps from different companies.

There are diseases that are best not to joke with, and tuberculosis is one of them. Moreover, you cannot just cancel what the doctor prescribes.

My opinion is that self-medication can be done either in the absence of serious illnesses, or when official medicine is powerless.

In other cases, you should still listen to doctors and follow their recommendations, but you can help the body by taking dietary supplements, good nutrition, positive thinking and moderate physical activity.

I had a story when I came to a dying grandmother with cordyceps. Doctors refused her, saying that she had no more than a month left. I was a little over 20 years old, I myself only recently recovered and came to “see off” my grandmother, to spend the last days with her. She swallowed the pills by handfuls. It was in a remote village and, having nothing to do, I began to read the instructions for the medicines. And I discovered that the grandmother, who was dying of atrial fibrillation and heart failure, was prescribed a decongestant, which had heart problems as a side effect.

My grandmother was already dying anyway, at my own peril and risk, I began to give her cordyceps and gradually removed all the means that gave a side effect on the heart and the work of internal organs. The grandmother cursed, but she could not do anything - she was bedridden by the disease.

I also constantly tuned my grandmother to the positive, forced her to do light exercises, first lying down, then she began to get up. For the first time in 77 years, my grandmother did exercises! We made the "5 Tibetans" complex. We reconsidered the diet, I made my grandmother drink freshly squeezed vegetable juices.

Result? A month later, she was already running. Everyone was shocked. In one of our conversations, my grandmother confessed: “I'm not afraid to die. I am afraid to become a burden, to become helpless. I want to die in the garden ... "

Grandmother died at the age of 90, and until the last day she worked in the garden, growing vegetables, fruits and herbs for sale. They found her in the garden ...

But this was my own grandmother, whom the doctors abandoned, sending her home to die ... I would hardly advise a stranger to do this.

How to drink cordyceps - instructions for use

Oddly enough, this is a rather complex and controversial question. For the sake of interest, I looked for information about the products with which I had worked before and could not understand what the real content of the active substance was in that elixir. It is written that 30 ml contains 70% cordyceps and only 9% water ... But I have the impression that something "does not agree" there.

The elixir was very liquid, the cordyceps mushroom was solid, even when fresh, if you think logically, with 9% water you get at least "porridge", but not liquid ... So the actual content of the active ingredient is difficult to determine.

In my practice, there was a unique case of recovery of a boy who had an accident. A neighbor brought us a friend, a grief happened in their family: the 14-year-old adopted son of her son was run over by a minibus, which ran over his head. And now for half a year the boy is like a vegetable. The doctors said that as he recovered in half a year, he will remain so for the rest of his life ... And they strictly forbade him to self-medicate. The woman was desperate. The family had no money, and cordyceps-based drugs were expensive. But she already had nothing to lose, half a year had passed, the boy looked like a living corpse ...

We gave her some drugs based on cordyceps, and she began, secretly from everyone, to give the boy micro doses, but regularly. A week later, the boy began to concentrate his gaze for the first time since the accident. Then he began to try to move. After a month, he started trying to get up. His adoptive grandmother came running to us and thanked us with tears in her eyes. Then she hooked up the cordyceps capsules with lingzhi and soy lecithin.

Half a year passed, we did not see this woman again, the last thing we heard was that the boy began to speak and was trying to walk with assistance. And then my brother went to the hospital with an injury, and there I met a friend whose child was lying with a brain injury.

I told her the story of that boy. She immediately asked: "he was 14 years old and he got hit by a minibus?" I nodded. She grabbed my hand and dragged me somewhere. It turned out that such a boy was lying with her son in the ward - they were preparing him to install the plates. When I saw him, I was shocked. He had dents in his head on both sides, the size of a half of a large orange ... At the same time, he himself walked, slightly dragging his leg, was in his right mind and spoke quite confidently.

I could not believe that this was the same boy and began asking: "Tell me, did your grandmother secretly give you a strange liquid to drink, and then capsules?" He shone in his eyes and fell at his feet, began to thank for the fact that I gave all this to his grandmother. For bringing him back to life. I will remember this moment for the rest of my life ... And this is what Cordyceps is capable of, even if given in micro doses.

How many cordyceps manufacturers recommend to take?

Tianshi's company contains capsules of dry cordyceps mycelium - 500 mg per capsule. They recommend taking 1-2 capsules 2 times a day for a month.

But there is one thing ... The cell walls of fungi are composed of chitin, and not of cellulose, as in plants. The human body is unable to use chitin because it is difficult for it to process some of the important ingredients in mushroom powder. This is especially true of secondary substances used in therapy, such as polysaccharides and triterpenes. In the process of obtaining the extract, these important active substances are extracted in a pure and concentrated form that is convenient for use.

Vistra, a Thai-Swiss project, recently launched a Cordyceps extract in combination with other healing natural remedies from oriental medicine. One capsule of cordyceps contains 300 mg of mushroom extract, and they recommend taking 1 capsule 1 time per day with meals. From personal experience, I can say that it is more effective to take before meals with a glass of warm water.

In conclusion, I want to say that cordyceps is not a panacea, it is a help on the path to health. It will give an impetus to recovery, but in order to continue the process, you will have to work hard, changing your lifestyle and changing bad habits for good ones.

Cordyceps helped me survive and return to a "working" state. But I was able to completely get away from all diagnoses and constant pain already in Thailand, constantly taking care of myself and my health.
There are many articles on this blog on how to do this. Hope they help you too.

Take care of yourself and be healthy!

Chinese cordyceps is known as a miracle product that can help a person on the path to health and longevity. And if earlier it was rare and expensive, available to only a few, now scientists have learned how to grow this plant, so everyone can appreciate its unique properties.

What is Chinese cordyceps?

There have been many studies, the results of which confirm the value of the chemical composition of Chinese cordyceps. It contains a large number of bioactive components that are important for the body:

  • many trace elements - from calcium, iron and selenium to manganese and zinc;
  • amino acids (strengthen the immune system and increase the general tone, without exerting a detrimental effect on the central nervous system and without causing insomnia, increased pressure, irritability);
  • adenosine (keeps blood vessels in good shape, which improves blood flow and activates recovery processes);
  • beta-carotene (inside the body it is transformed into vitamin A, which is important for the health of the eyes and skin, as well as strengthening the walls of blood vessels);
  • phospholipids and fatty acids (form cell membranes and participate in tissue renewal);
  • (improves the functioning of the heart, blood vessels, kidneys);
  • polysaccharides (strengthen the immune system and are useful in the fight against tumors);
  • B vitamins (support the functioning of the liver, central nervous system and normalize metabolism in tissues);
  • cordyceptin (a natural antibiotic effective against staphylococci and streptococci);
  • vitamin E (a powerful natural antioxidant for strong immunity).

Beneficial features

People began to take cordyceps, noticing that the animals that eat it are becoming strong and hardy. Therefore, farmers were the first to use the mushroom, adding it to tea and drinking. Later, the plant was dried under the sun and made into a powder in order to preserve its beneficial qualities.

Cordyceps has a broad spectrum of action:

  1. It activates the functions of all organs.
  2. Promotes the elimination of toxins and toxins.
  3. Tones up.
  4. Normalizes metabolic processes.
  5. Comprehensively affects the process of hematopoiesis.
  6. Eliminates immune system disorders.
  7. Activates the production of hormones from the pituitary gland and hypothalamus.

Research results also show that in a number of cases, the Chinese mushroom is effective as a natural remedy for cancer. In combination with a course of chemotherapy, it suppresses the growth of tumors, most effectively affecting neoplasms on the skin and in the lungs.

The anti-inflammatory effect of cordyceps is associated with its positive effect on immunity and the ability to neutralize damage caused by oxidation processes. Also, this unique plant stimulates the activity of protective cells that eliminate infections and various mutations in the body.

Application for treatment and prevention

Cordyceps is widely used both in traditional medicine and in official medicine as an adjuvant. The effectiveness of the mushroom in 2012 was noted by the adviser of the Chinese Olympic team. He stated that tennis players from the Middle Kingdom became champions in large part due to the fact that they took cordyceps. This was a must when preparing for the competition.

The Chinese mushroom is used in the treatment of many diseases, including:

  • flu, SARS, cough;
  • kidney and liver disease (including hepatitis B);
  • reproductive system disorders and sexual dysfunction;
  • heart diseases;
  • arrhythmia;
  • respiratory tract infections (chronic bronchitis and others);
  • bladder infections and difficulty urinating;
  • circulatory disorders;
  • high cholesterol;
  • muscle weakness;
  • chronic fatigue;
  • dizziness.

The valuable plant is used as an immunomodulator: in hypoimmune conditions, it increases immunity, weakened by the disease, in autoimmune conditions, it lowers the hyperactivity of the immune system.

Chinese cordyceps preparations are also used to treat tumors, since when taken correctly, the production of melatonin is activated. This substance is one of the main thyroid hormones, therefore, circadian rhythms and, as a result, night sleep are simultaneously normalized.

Chinese cordyceps are also used for chronic fatigue, stress, and frequent colds. It is an adaptogen that helps the body withstand harmful environmental factors.

Such drugs are prescribed to accelerate acclimatization and recovery from acute diseases. The unique mushroom contains a substance called cordycepin, which helps the body to resist bacteria and viruses.

Cordyceps is used to dissolve blood clots, prevent blood clots and improve hematopoiesis. This plant restores normal levels of white blood cells and platelets.

For women, the Chinese mushroom is prescribed as part of a comprehensive fertility treatment and to increase estrogen production, which helps cure osteoporosis during menopause. For men, such drugs are recommended for the prevention of premature ejaculation and the treatment of impotence, since they stimulate the release of testosterone.

How is cordyceps used?

From wild-growing cordyceps, dried in the sun, they make a powder that is sold in Chinese medicine stores. When using it, it is important to observe the dosage - no more than 5-10 g per day.

Today, Chinese cordyceps are also grown in the laboratory. It is used to create drugs produced in the form of tablets and capsules, as well as powders. They have passed clinical trials and are widely used in medicine. According to reviews, cordyceps grown in a laboratory is not inferior to natural ones in terms of effectiveness. Although the drugs are much cheaper, they are therefore available to a wide range of people.

You can buy cordyceps both in pure form (capsules) and as part of healthy tonic coffee drinks.

And from this video you will learn how this mushroom is mined in Tibet, how it is obtained and much more:

Contraindications

According to the instructions for use of cordyceps, it is not recommended for people whose metabolism differs from the usual:

  • pregnant and breastfeeding women;
  • elderly;
  • children under 5 years old.

The warning is due to the fact that the effect of the fungus on the body has not yet been fully understood. Considering that it also has a powerful effect, you should be careful.

Cordyceps is the name of a genus of mushrooms that includes about 750 unique species. They mainly grow in South Asia, Europe and North America.

In traditional Chinese and Tibetan medicine, Cordyceps has been used to increase libido and fertility in both women and men. Also, Chinese healers have used it to stimulate mental and physical energy, increase stamina and concentration.

Mushrooms of the genus Cordyceps have powerful anti-aging properties and act as antioxidants. They fight infections, inflammation and strengthen the immune system. It is used by athletes to reduce fatigue and recovery time after strenuous physical activity.

The most famous types of Cordyceps are:

  • Chinese cordyceps(Cordyceps sinensis). In 2007, scientists discovered that this species was not related to most of the others and placed it in a completely new genus (Ophiocordyceps).
  • Military cordyceps(Cordyceps militaris).

The world community became interested in these mushrooms in 1993. Then the Chinese runners broke several world records at the Chinese National Games. The track and field coach attributed this success to taking Cordyceps as a pre-workout tonic.

Active ingredients

The two most important constituents of Cordyceps are cordycepin (3'-deoxyadenosine) and D-mannitol (cordycepic acid). [,]

Cordycepin very similar to the molecule adenosine, which helps to fall asleep and increases blood flow. Adenosine is also part of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), a versatile energy source. Cordycepin has multiple effects: anti-inflammatory and antioxidant, antiseptic and anti-cancer. It also controls blood glucose levels and corrects imbalances in the immune system.

D-mannitol Is a sugar alcohol used as a diuretic in people with fluid buildup due to kidney disease and to reduce swelling in the brain after injury or stroke.

Other active ingredients:

  • Polysaccharides (beta-glucans and mannan). They have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anticancer, cholesterol and lowering effects on blood sugar. They also help to strengthen the immune system.
  • Nucleosides (adenosine and thymidine).
  • Sterols (ergosterol and beta-sitosterol).
  • Vitamins: B1, B2 and K.
  • Minerals including potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc, and selenium.
  • Miscellaneous: peptides, amino acids, sugars, fatty acids and enzymes.

Medicinal properties of Cordyceps

Slows down aging

Cordyceps has been used to slow the processes associated with aging for centuries.

In the process of aging, oxygen-free radicals are formed, which cause. Research has shown that Cordyceps can prevent the formation of peroxides and lipids and prevent or reduce the formation of oxidized enzymes in the brain. This ability to scavenge oxygen free radicals makes Cordyceps a powerful anti-aging agent. [,]

Supports Brain Health

Cordyceps may be a good nootropic and brain-protecting medicinal mushroom in animal studies. It speeds up brain circulation and reduces damage to brain cells.

In gerbils (a species of desert rat), Cordyceps prevented the loss of short-term memory and neurons from stroke. Perhaps it can also help in cases of poor brain circulation.

Cordyceps protects against memory loss, prevents brain cell damage, and reduces inflammation in the brains of dementia mice. It also increased the birth and growth of new neurons and decreased memory loss in rats. [,]

In rats with Parkinson's disease, cordycepin improves mobility, reduces the loss of dopamine neurons, and reduces brain inflammation.

Improves endurance and athletic performance

In 1993, Cordyceps made all the sports headlines when the Chinese team broke nine world records at the China National Games. The coach claimed that the athletes took Cordyceps before training. Cordyceps improves endurance and athletic performance, reduces muscle soreness and promotes muscle building, all while being steroid-free.

Fatigue relief is a well-known effect of Cordyceps. The body needs a constant supply of energy to function. When it comes to energy, we think about consuming fats, proteins and carbohydrates for energy, but at the cellular level it all comes down to ATP (the molecule that actually releases energy in the cell). Recent studies have shown that cordyceps increases cellular ATP levels and oxygen utilization, resulting in an increase in the actual energy available for use.

In addition, cordyceps increases the availability of oxygen, which makes breathing easier. Unsurprisingly, many high altitude climbers regularly use cordyceps to boost oxygen and energize.

Ancient Chinese manuscripts reported the superiority of Cordyceps over the tonic effect of ginseng. Many of the effects of cordyceps are due to adenosine. This ingredient is known as a regulator of vascular tone, smooth muscle and nerve cell growth.

In two studies of 57 older adults, taking 1-3 grams of cordyceps extract increased their ability to exercise intensively. It reduced their fatigue and helped them use oxygen more efficiently when cycling. After taking cordyceps for 30 days:

  • 92% of people showed a reduction in chronic fatigue.
  • 89% showed a reduction in the feeling of coldness.
  • 83% showed a reduction in vertigo. [,]

However, the same dosage (3 g / day) did not improve endurance performance in trained cyclists in another study.

Mice given Cordyceps were able to swim twice as long. This is likely due to the fact that Cordyceps increases the level of ATP, which releases energy. In addition, it reduces oxidative stress and lactic acid build-up that are associated with prolonged exercise. [,,]

Improves Heart Function and Regulates Blood Pressure

The heart needs regularity more than any other organ in our body. When the heart loses its regular rhythm, it changes its life. Cardiac arrhythmia is a condition of abnormal activity in electrical impulses that control the heart. The heart may beat too fast or too slowly, regularly or irregularly. It may not be able to pump enough blood into the body, which can damage the brain, heart, and other organs. With age, the risk of arrhythmia increases, and as people approach 50 years of age, this disease becomes more common.

Research material published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine suggests that supplementation with Cordyceps may lower high blood pressure and correct cardiac arrhythmias, prolong its latency period, and shorten the duration of cardiac arrhythmias.

The ability of Cordyceps to control arrhythmias is due to the presence of adenosine, deoxyadenosine and related adenosine-type nucleotides and nucleosides, which have an all-pervading positive effect on coronary and cerebral circulation.

Studies in people with chronic heart disease show that long-term use of Cordyceps in combination with conventional treatments significantly improves overall physical condition, mental health, sex drive, and heart function when compared to a control group that receives only conventional treatments.

The use of Cordyceps increases blood flow to the coronary vessels of the heart (reducing the risk of developing coronary heart disease and acute myocardial infarction), cerebral vessels (improving memory and cognitive ability and reducing the risk of ischemic stroke) and peripheral vessels (treatment of atherosclerosis and diabetic complications).

Protects the kidneys

The kidneys are our body's natural filters. They maintain acid-base balance, regulate blood pressure, and produce hormones, glucose and amino acids. The symptoms of kidney dysfunction usually manifest through other relevant organs and systems. Fatigue, joint and back pain, high blood sugar are all symptoms of kidney problems.

Cordyceps protects the kidneys from antibiotic damage, improves kidney function and stabilizes the immune system in kidney transplants.

protects the kidneys from damage caused by antibiotics such as aminoglycosides (broad-spectrum antibiotics). Aminoglycosides have one problem - very poor gastrointestinal absorption. Therefore, they are administered intramuscularly or intravenously. And they are excreted from the body with the help of the kidneys. Another important problem with aminoglycosides is that the difference between therapeutic effect and liver toxicity is very small. Therefore, constant monitoring is necessary to avoid toxicity. Combining cordyceps with aminoglycosides prevents kidney damage.

Kidney transplant associated with the risk of organ rejection and impaired immune system. To prevent rejection and suppression of immunity during organ transplantation, the drug Cyclosporin is used. With prolonged use of this drug, serious side effects occur: impaired renal function, increased blood pressure, nausea, diarrhea, etc. The use of Cordyceps allows you to reduce the dosage of Cyclosporin and reduce side effects without an increased risk of acute kidney rejection.

Protects the liver

The liver is the largest organ and also one of the most important. It is a living filter of the human body that cleans blood and all other fluids from impurities. She is also responsible for:

  • maintaining proper blood glucose levels;
  • storage of iron, vitamins and other essential chemicals;
  • splitting food and converting it into energy;
  • the production of enzymes and proteins that are responsible for most of the chemical reactions in the body, such as those involved in blood clotting and the repair of damaged tissues.

It is impossible to live, let alone feel healthy, without a properly functioning liver. Therefore, maintaining a healthy bake is an important point.

Inflammation of the liver causes a buildup of scar tissue called liver fibrosis. This ultimately leads to liver failure (cirrhosis) and liver cancer if left untreated. The causes are obesity, hepatitis viruses and alcohol abuse.

Cordyceps protects the liver by enhancing the action of protective antioxidants and preventing the accumulation of fat in the liver. Cordyceps increases the activity of genes involved in fat burning and decreases the activity of a gene involved in storage.

In people with hepatitis B, taking Cordyceps reduces inflammation and scarring of the liver and improves liver function. In mice with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, it decreased fat stores and increased liver antioxidants. And in rats, cordyceps protects against liver damage from kidney disease and prevents liver scarring from alcohol. [,,,]

Improves the function of the immune system

The immune system is one of the basic biological systems that every person possesses. It is quite unique in that it does not exist in one place, but throughout the body. For example, the respiratory system consists of the lungs, diaphragm, trachea, and other organs used for breathing. The skeletal system consists of all the bones that are found in the body. And the immune system does not exist in one place, but is a collection of systems and defense mechanisms designed to ensure human safety.

Cordyceps improves immune function, but this does not mean that it should be classified as an immune-boosting agent. Its action is balancing: reducing the overactivation of the immune system in autoimmune diseases and strengthening the defense when the immune system is weakened or attacked.

Taking Cordyceps, in patients with autoimmune diseases, lowers thyroid antibody levels and balances the levels of pro-inflammatory immune cells.

In mice, Cordyceps prevents the decline in immune cells caused by chemotherapy and increases the ability of immune cells to fight pathogens. While this is promising, no clinical trials have confirmed its ability to counter the side effects of chemotherapy. [,]

Cordyceps also increases the activity of immune cells involved in fighting infections (natural killer cells, IL-2 and IFN-gamma) in 79 people. In cellular research, it increases the activity of phagocytes, cells involved in the uptake of bacteria and other small particles. [,]

Increases fertility and libido

In North India and Nepal, cordyceps are known as "Himalayan Viagra". Apparently, local shepherds noticed that the yaks, goats and sheep that ate cordyceps became much stronger and larger. Subsequently, the mushroom became very popular for increasing vitality and as an aphrodisiac. [R]

Cordyceps is effective in increasing libido and affects sexual function either through the reproductive hormonal systems or directly through the genitals. For example, there were three separate studies conducted with a total of 756 people with reduced sex drive who were given a placebo or 3 grams per day of Cordyceps for 40 days. The results of these studies showed that 64.8% of Cordyceps consumers reported significant improvements in sexual function, compared with 23.8% in the placebo group.

Another controlled study in older men and women with decreased libido, impotence, and other sexual dysfunctions, who were given 3 grams per day of Cordyceps for 40 days, showed increased sperm survival time and sperm count, as well as improved sexual health. most of the patients reporting improved libido and sexual health.

Cordyceps improved sperm count and quality in rats and pigs. It increases the levels of the sex hormones estradiol and testosterone in mice and rats.

This hormonal surge is likely to underlie the effect of cordyceps. In addition, testosterone promotes muscle building, which is an added benefit to the workouts mentioned above. And as a supplement, testosterone increases libido, especially if you have low levels. [,,,,]

Lowers cholesterol levels

High cholesterol does not usually exist on its own and is an indicator of metabolic dysfunction. The main source of cholesterol production and elimination is the liver, so any liver dysfunction or disorder can affect blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels. It has been shown that dietary fat intake can affect the amount of lipids in the blood, but this is not a major factor in blood cholesterol levels.

Clinical studies published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine (involving 273 patients with high cholesterol) show that Cordyceps helps reduce total cholesterol by 10-21% and triglycerides by 9-26%. At the same time, it contributes to an increase in the level of good HDL cholesterol by 27-30%. [,]

Helps with diabetes

Diabetes is generally classified into two groups:

  • Type 1 usually starts early in life. The immune system attacks and destroys the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. This type of disease affects 10% of people with diabetes.
  • In type 2 diabetes, the constant consumption of large amounts of sugar leads to the development of insulin resistance. Excessive consumption of sugar and refined carbohydrates leads to chronic hyperinsulinemia, which can cause loss of insulin sensitivity at the cellular level.

A number of clinical trials (in animals and humans) have shown the potential of Cordyceps as a blood sugar regulator. In one study, the group receiving 3 grams per day of Cordyceps and the group receiving treatment with other more traditional methods showed that 95% of patients treated with Cordyceps showed an improvement in blood sugar levels compared to 54% in the control group. Various animal tests have shown that Cordyceps improves blood glucose metabolism, increases insulin sensitivity and increases the production of glucose-regulating enzymes by the liver, glucokinase and hexokinase. [,,,,]

Helpful for Cancer

The body is made up of many types of cells. They grow and divide in a controlled manner to produce more cells needed to keep the body healthy. When cells become old or damaged, they die and are replaced with new ones.

However, sometimes this orderly process does not go well. A cell's genetic material can be damaged or altered, causing mutations that affect normal cell growth and division. When this happens, cells don't die when they should, and new cells are formed when the body doesn't need them. Additional cells can form a mass of tissue called a tumor.

Cordycepin, ergosterol and polysaccharides from Cordyceps induce programmed cell death. It is needed to remove cells that are starting to behave like cancer. These compounds also increase the activity of cancer immune cells (macrophages and natural killer cells). And they inhibit the growth of blood vessels that supply cancer with nutrients. [,,,,]

The main active compound, cordycepin, also makes cancer cells responsive to treatment. [,]

Side effects

Side effects are rare but may include:

  • Dry mouth.
  • Nausea.
  • Diarrhea.

A patient taking Cordyceps daily was found to experience excessive bleeding after dental surgery. Individuals with bleeding disorders should use caution when adding Cordyceps.

Pregnant and lactating women should avoid taking Cordyceps due to its ability to increase sex hormone levels.

Instructions for use

  • It can be taken with or without food.
  • Best in the morning as Cordyceps boosts energy.
  • The standard dosage for Cordyceps is 1-3 g / day.
  • Most supplements contain 600-1000 mg of extract per capsule.

Cordyceps are mainly found in capsules, powders, and tablets. Capsules or tablets can be a quick and convenient way to get your daily dose. Cordyceps powder is most commonly added to tea, coffee, and cocktails.

Conclusion

Cordyceps is a type of mushroom that has been used medicinally for centuries and has beneficial effects on health.

Some of the potential benefits of cordyceps include improving immunity and heart health, slowing aging, improving athletic performance and sexual function, regulating blood sugar, and protecting against the growth and development of cancer cells.

The exact dosages vary with the type of supplement, but most studies have used 1 to 3 g / day.

Cordyceps is credited with a whole list of miraculous medicinal properties. Traditional oriental medicine has practiced the use of the mushroom for general health for centuries.

What it is, where it grows, what it helps from, and to whom it is shown - you will find the answers to these and other questions later in the article.

Biological description

Today, the cordyceps mushroom is popular all over the world. When mature, it resembles a dried yellow-brown caterpillar with a dried, dark-brown pod. In everyday life, it is called "caterpillar mushroom".

Did you know? The world learned about cordyceps in the early 90s, when Chinese athletes showed unprecedented success in world competitions, showing record results. Then the adviser to the national Olympic team of China and the head coach of the Fujian provincial team Guo Yuehua said that the victory was won thanks to the miracle mushroom. The Olympic Commission does not regard it as doping and allows it to be used.

It has a very unusual look. Often people do not even notice the most valuable substance under their feet. It is inseparable from the insect and takes on a dark brown color, and inside it is completely white. The dimensions of the mushroom do not exceed 13 centimeters in length and 3 centimeters in width. As a rule, it widens at the base and at the tip, forming a narrowed middle. Cordyceps has a pleasant aroma and sweetish taste.

In nature, there are about 400 varieties of these mushrooms. Asian medicine has revered them for centuries as the most valuable medicinal raw materials. And Western practitioners have paid attention to their healing properties only recently.

Did you know? There are many dishes in Chinese cuisine, the main ingredient of which is the caterpillar mushroom. Moreover, it necessarily includes a host larva.The cost of such a delicacy is from 1 to 3 thousand US dollars.

Where it grows

In Europe, caterpillar mushrooms can be found only in pharmacies and laboratories. Because its habitat is Tibet, where such specimens were first discovered. Today, cordyceps is found in large quantities in China, the Kingdom of Bhutan, Nepal and the countries of northern India.

Modern technologies have simplified the search for cordyceps, allowing them to begin artificial cultivation in laboratory conditions without the participation of insects. This discovery made a real breakthrough, making the raw materials more affordable for many consumers.

Important! Mushrooms grown artificially do not differ in chemical composition from wild specimens. They are also more resilient.

Did you know? Today Nepal is the leader in the procurement of caterpillar mushroom raw materials, ahead of China, Thailand and Japan. At the same time, the collection of cordyceps became legal in the country only in 2001..

Where is it for sale and how to choose the right one

Fresh or dry, you can find cordyceps only in places where it grows. But get ready that in the homeland of the mushroom, the price for 1 kilogram starts from 25 to 100 thousand euros. Despite the high cost, the product is in great demand in the world market. Based on this, many dietary supplements have appeared in pharmacies.
To purchase genuine pills from a medicinal product, never buy them from your hands, because the popularity of the product has provoked a flood of counterfeits in the market. In addition, experts warn of the existence of poisonous species of the ergot genus, which unscrupulous sellers pass off as medicinal cordyceps.

In order to clearly distinguish between valuable raw materials and fakes, focus on the snow-white inner substance of the mushroom, its pleasant smell and sweetish taste. Remember that your request is related to a rare product that grows in extreme conditions at low temperatures at a certain height. This nuance determines its high cost.

For medicinal purposes, not only mushrooms are used, but also mummified insects. A real caterpillar mushroom always has 2 components: an insect and a smooth caterpillar-like sprout. It is believed that large fruit bodies, the size of which reaches 13 centimeters, have the most useful qualities.

It is much more difficult to determine the authenticity of purchased dietary supplements, because manufacturers are not always honest with customers. In this case, carefully read the information on the drug labels, pay attention to the country of origin and composition.
Usually on bottles with real capsules they write: "cordyceps sinensis", "dong zhong chang cao", "dongchongxiacao", "semitake".

Important! When buying pharmaceutical products, always ask the seller for a certificate of conformity. You should be on your guard when you receive a refusal to provide this document. After all, it is from him that the buyer can obtain complete information about the product. Experts advise to make such purchases directly from official distributors.

How to take: dosage

According to the therapeutic techniques of Chinese Traditional Medicine, the daily norm of wild cordyceps is limited to 5-10 grams. If you have purchased a fruiting body medicinal composition in capsule, liquid or powder form, the dosage is adjusted accordingly with the manufacturer's directions. Please note that such drugs are contraindicated for children under the age of twelve.

And adolescents and adults can take 1-2 tablets a day. Before taking it, it is important to read the instructions for using a particular drug, taking into account possible contraindications and side effects.

Can I use during pregnancy and lactation?

It is believed that cordyceps does not cause serious reactions in the body when taken and overdose. Nevertheless, pediatricians and gynecologists are strongly opposed to the Chinese medicine. And so it will be until scientists make their conclusion about the benefits or harms of the mushroom. Indeed, despite the centuries-old practice of treating the fungus, at the moment there are no medical studies that would confirm or deny the effectiveness of the herbal product.

Contraindications

  • autoimmune diseases (multiple sclerosis);
  • systemic lupus erythematosus;
  • rheumatoid arthritis.
Also, you can not combine a wild mushroom and preparations based on it with:
  • anticoagulants;
  • medicines that promote the expansion of the bronchi;
  • immunosuppressants (cyclophosphamide, prednisolone).
