The ecological situation around the Baltic Sea at the end of the 20th century reached a critical point. The sea was gradually turning into a waste dump, the situation had to be urgently rescued. In 1974. seven coastal states sign in Helsinki the general convention on the protection and rescue of the marine and environment. And in 1986, the same states, at the next meeting of their commission, decided to celebrate March 22 annually as the day of the Baltic Sea. The essence of this celebration is to draw the attention of politicians, scientists, the public, the population to the problems of environmental protection not only in the Baltic Sea, but also in the entire Baltic region. Since 2000 the celebration moved to St. Petersburg. Not only representatives of the states that have signed the Convention come here every year, but also everyone who is not indifferent to the further fate of the Baltic. Currently, the holiday has transformed into a forum where discussions of the most pressing problems are held and Resolutions are adopted on their possible solution. Resolutions are sent to the highest authorities, which take measures aimed at improving and purifying the environment of the Baltic waters.

2nd of March the church also remembers. Saint Hermogenes lived in the late 16th - early 17th centuries. He was the first Kazan metropolitan and did much to convert local residents to Christianity. In 1606, Metropolitan Hermogen was elected to the chair of the priesthood. During the Troubles, when Polish troops captured Moscow, the patriarch was imprisoned in the Chudov Monastery. From captivity, he turned with the last message to the Russian people, blessing the liberation war against the conquerors. Nine months later, in captivity, the patriarch was martyred from hunger. After the liberation of Russia from the invaders, the body of the martyr was buried in the Chudov Monastery, and in 1654 was transferred to the Moscow Assumption Cathedral.
Holy noble prince Yaroslav the Wise
5th of March- the day of memory of the faithful prince Yaroslav the Wise. Holy Prince Yaroslav was born in 978 and was the son of the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Grand Duke Vladimir. He left a memory of himself by compiling the code of laws of Kievan Rus - "Russian Truth", which, supplemented by his sons and grandson Vladimir Monomakh, became the legal basis for the life of the Russian people. Prince Yaroslav paid a lot of attention to Christian enlightenment; by his order, dozens of churches were built in various cities. The veneration of the faithful prince Yaroslav the Wise as a locally revered ascetic began immediately after his repose in 1054. In the face of the saints, the prince was glorified in 2005 with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II.
