Options for finishing the portal of the entrance door. How to finish an entrance door after installation: types of door structures and materials, processing of a threshold and jambs, sheathing of a door leaf with laminate

The front door is the face of the owners of the house or apartment. It is her guests who see first of all. The entrance to the premises is not only able to show the wealth and attitude of people to their homes, but also to retain heat, arrange sound insulation, ensure that there are no drafts, and easy opening and closing. It is also primarily a matter of reliability: the door, its structure and locks protect the house from thieves and intruders. Therefore, for your home to become your fortress, the old front door follows.

The owners, who have just replaced the front door, are faced with the question - how to trim the slopes and harmoniously arrange the doorway? This stage of work is especially important, because the slopes are responsible not only for the aesthetic appearance of the door, but also for keeping warm in the house. Today we will try to figure out the technology and methods of finishing door jambs, as well as the nuances of the selection of suitable materials.

How can you trim the slopes?

The choice of finishing material depends on the features of the door installation and its appearance. If the door structure is located in a wall with a recess, in addition to internal, external slopes are formed, which also require finishing. Usually they are leveled with plaster and painted, but if the door goes into a heated dressing room or entrance, it is permissible to install slopes made of plastic, MDF or laminate.

For internal slopes, choose a material that is combined with the door trim. This could be:

  • drywall;
  • plastic;
  • natural wood;
  • laminate or MDF;
  • artificial or natural stone;
  • plaster.

The most affordable finishing method is plastering with further painting. But if the slope is severely damaged during the dismantling of the old door frame, its use is irrational due to the significant consumption of plaster. In this case, it is more profitable and easier to mount the finishing materials on the frame.

Stone decoration

Instead of painting, the surface leveled with plaster can be veneered with a stone laid on the glue or its imitation. Despite the considerable cost, such finishes are becoming more and more popular in modern hallways, due to their unpretentiousness, durability and spectacular appearance.

If the door is made of natural wood, it is better to make the same slopes. The tree always looks expensive and fits perfectly into any interior, but it tends to dry out over time and requires careful maintenance.

A more practical and inexpensive solution is panels imitating wood or other materials (laminate, MDF, plastic). They are available in a variety of colors and patterns, so it's easy to find the right ones. The advantage of installing such panels is to obtain a coating that does not need additional finishing.

Natural wood - a classic solution

For wide slopes, drywall is often used, mounted on glue or a frame. It allows you to quickly level the surface and achieve its perfect smoothness. From above, the material is pasted over with wallpaper or painted.

Choosing tools

Having chosen how to finish the slopes of the entrance door, you need to prepare the tools for the job. Their set differs depending on the installation method and the material used. To plaster the surface you will need:

  • spatulas (medium and wide);
  • rule;
  • fine and coarse-grained sandpaper;
  • drill with a special attachment;
  • building level.
Framing tools

You also need a container for mixing the solution and a brush for applying the primer mixture. If you plan to mount drywall or other finishing panels on the slopes, use:

  • puncher;
  • jigsaw or hacksaw;
  • screwdriver;
  • stationery knife;
  • marker or pencil for marking;
  • tape measure and level.

Choosing building materials

In addition to finishing panels for installing slopes on the frame, you will need auxiliary materials, namely:

  • dowels and screws;
  • polyurethane foam;
  • primer;
  • timber with a section of 2x3 cm or a metal profile;
  • serpyanka mesh and perforated corners (for plasterboard structures).

Lighthouses under plaster

If plastering of door slopes is performed, acquire beacons for leveling the surface and a primer. Also, in both cases, film and masking tape are needed to protect the door from damage.

Slope finishing technology

Finishing work begins with the preparation of the door structure and opening. The door leaf is covered with a film, fixed with masking tape. Garbage is cleaned from the slopes and protruding fragments are cut off. Then the surface is covered with a deep penetration primer. When installing the material on the frame at the same stage, they think over the gasket inside the wiring slope, the location of the switch and the backlight, if necessary.

Slope preparation

Further steps depend on the method of finishing. By forming the slope and attaching the finishing material to it, the following methods are distinguished - frame cladding, installation of panels on glue and embedding with a cement-sand mixture, followed by plastering. Since the materials used also affect the technology and have their own installation nuances, we will consider each of them separately.

Plastering of slopes

Leveling and finishing the slope of the entrance door with plaster is an affordable and durable type of design and, if you opted for it, the work is performed in the following sequence:

  • Level check the evenness of the corners of the doorway. If deviations are found, the outer edge is leveled with a perforated corner set on the putty.
  • Before applying the plaster on the prepared surface, beacons are installed on the gypsum.
  • The cement-sand mortar is diluted in accordance with the instructions, applied with a trowel to the side slope, starting from the bottom, and leveled with the rule. The process is repeated for the second side. Spread the cement over the top with a wide spatula.
  • The protruding edges of the perforated corner around the opening are covered with putty.
  • After waiting for complete drying, the jambs are sanded with sandpaper.

The plaster is distributed with a small rule

The finished surface is painted or pasted over with wallpaper. To decorate the hallway in the Gothic style, the plastered doorway can be decorated with stone tiles. The material is laid on tile adhesive according to a pre-planned pattern, for example, alternating long and short tiles. The next day after installation, grout the joints and cover the surface with a protective varnish.

Plasterboard finishing of door slopes

Drywall is mounted on slopes in two ways - on glue and frame. The first option is easier to implement, but only suitable for door frames without deep chips and flaws. They begin by measuring the slopes and cutting out parts of the appropriate size from drywall - two side ones and one for the top.

Installation of drywall on the frame

When attached to glue, prepare an adhesive composition, apply it to a strip of material and apply it to the jamb previously treated with a primer. First, the upper part is glued and fixed with props, and then the sidewalls are installed. Plasterboard sheets are leveled, let the solution dry and cut off the excess glue that has come out with a clerical knife.

For greater reliability, the material is fixed at the edges with self-tapping screws or hammer-in dowels. The corners are made in the same way as when plastering. After that, the surface of the slope is cleaned, covered with a finishing putty and a decorative coating is applied.

If the slopes need leveling and insulation, drywall sheets are attached to the frame. This method differs in that after priming, wooden slats or a U-shaped profile are stuffed onto the walls from the inside and outside of the door jamb. Insulation is placed in the empty space between the slats and the frame is sheathed with drywall, fixing it with self-tapping screws. Further, the finishing process is carried out in the same way as described above.

Decorating slopes with panels or clapboard

Finishing slopes from MDF or lining for an entrance door is similar to installing drywall. The sequence of actions is as follows:

  • The markings are applied to the door frames, along which the frame will be attached. For these materials, a solid base of slats or pieces of profile is required, which are placed every 30-40 cm across the slope. With a wide doorway, add a longitudinal rail.
  • The material for the frame is cut into pieces and fixed with dowels.
  • The gaps between the rails are filled with heat-insulating material or polyurethane foam.
  • The finishing panels are attached to the lathing. One-piece material is installed end-to-end, and the lining is connected according to the "thorn-groove" principle. The panels are fixed to the frame with screws, slightly recessed. After that, the places of fasteners are hidden under hats, matched to the tone of the cladding. When working with plastic, glue is used instead of screws so as not to damage its surface.
  • Finally, the joints of the finishing panels with the wall are hidden under decorative platbands and the slopes are ready.

Features of vinyl slopes

Decorating the slopes of the entrance door with your own hands using vinyl panels is suitable for non-standard openings. You can purchase ready-made vinyl slopes, as well as order their manufacture according to individual parameters, in specialized firms.

Vinyl slope installation scheme

The material is popular for its affordability and resistance to temperature extremes, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor cladding. Another advantage is the small number of joints and seams.

The installation of vinyl slopes is quick and does not require special preparation. The panels are laid on the leveled surface of the doorway, fastened with universal construction glue or polyurethane foam. To do this, the adhesive is applied to the back of the material and firmly pressed against the jamb, leveling it. In this case, additional fixation with self-tapping screws is not required, there is also no need to hide the joints with the wall, since the panels initially have a curved shape and at the same time serve as platbands.

As you can see, finishing the slopes of the front door yourself is not so difficult. And the variety of installation methods and finishing materials allows you to choose the optimal solution for any interior. The main thing is not to rush and follow the technology. Happy renovation!

Decorating the slopes of the entrance door can be done in various ways. Each of the available options has its own advantages and disadvantages and is selected individually. It is advisable to take into account many factors, which are in the overall interior design, possible financial costs, as well as in the skills required to complete all stages.

How to decorate the slopes of the front door? This question always arises when there is a need for this kind of finishing. There can be many reasons for this work:

  • Installation of a new structure. This is the most common situation. During installation work, adjacent areas are destroyed. It often happens, especially in old houses, that there is a complete shedding of the old layer of slopes, because they are made of plaster. It must be borne in mind that the new door must be installed correctly, without distortions, in order to exclude subsequent repair work.
  • The appearance of defects. Over time, any finish falls into disrepair. The same situation occurs with slopes, especially if they frame the entrance opening. Cracks, crumbling, traces of mechanical stress appear on the surface. It is very important to assess the situation in time in order to carry out the installation of new door slopes without unnecessary work.
  • Change the general appearance of the room. Indeed, do-it-yourself new cladding of entrance and interior doors is necessary when the design of adjacent rooms changes. Sometimes it seems that the door slope is an area that does not affect the overall appearance of the interior. This is an erroneous opinion, because even such a seemingly insignificant detail plays an important role.

On a note! There is another reason for replacing slopes, which is the appearance of mold and mildew. This situation will require cleaning the surface to the ground, cleaning all affected areas and impregnating with antiseptics. You should immediately find the reasons leading to the appearance of this problem.

What material to choose for the device of slopes?

There are many options that allow you to do the slopes of the front door with your own hands.

  1. Plaster.
    This finishing material is used everywhere. It should be borne in mind that this option has the lowest cost. All work is carried out independently, without the use of special tools. Most recently, this method was one of the main ones, but recently its popularity has begun to decline. There are many reasons for this, among which stands out - not the most beautiful visual appearance. Of course, this state of affairs is easy to fix if you use decorative and textured plaster.

  2. Drywall.
    The popularity of gypsum boards is only growing. This material allows you to do all the work quickly enough. But this is true for large areas. If only finishing the slopes of the entrance door is done from the inside, then there will be a need for additional manipulations. The fact is that during installation, numerous cracks (joints) appear, which need to be putty putty.

  3. MDF panels.
    This should include the laminate. Such products are great for finishing work. The panels are very easy to install, the resulting surface has an excellent decorative look. But there is one drawback, if the width of the opening is greater than the material used, then it becomes necessary to do the joint. Laminate flooring forms less visible seams, but they also impair the visual perception.

  4. Natural wood.
    Of course, making door slopes using natural wood is a rather expensive procedure. But we must not forget that a very beautiful coating is obtained, which has unlimited durability. If necessary, you can carry out restoration work. All activities must be carried out in compliance with numerous technological nuances.

  5. Chipboard materials.
    This option allows you to cover even very wide openings. Many people mistakenly perceive laminated chipboard as an exclusively material for the manufacture of furniture. In fact, thinner sheets are used for cladding areas adjacent to the front door, which have very impressive characteristics.

    Advice! Currently, there is a large selection of laminated chipboard. For installation, sheets are used that have a thickness of 6 to 10 mm.

  6. PVC panels.
    Plastic slopes are an option that is more suitable for working with window openings. The fact is that this type of product often comes into disharmony with the material of the entrance structures. Of course, modern technologies make it possible to find a suitable solution, but it is not always possible to do this.

  7. Decorative stone and brick.
    There is an opinion that this method is rapidly going out of fashion. In reality, the situation is not so dire. This material allows you to obtain an individual and reliable surface. It should be borne in mind that laying the parts will take a lot of time. Many masters pay attention that in the future it will be very difficult to complete the finishing work on the walls. After all, to work, you will have to use a limited set of options. So, for example, cladding with any kind of panels will be difficult - they are difficult to fit under the masonry.

  8. Dobory.
    This material is most suitable for mounting slopes on interior doors. A box of such designs assumes the use of this option. Therefore, door manufacturers are developing a whole line of accessories that are completely identical in color and texture to the door leaf.

  9. Preparatory activities

    Installing slopes on the front door begins with preparation. It is important to perform the work with high quality in order to avoid correcting possible problems.

    The activities are as follows:

  • The surface is cleaned from the existing remnants of the old layer. If the coating is crumbling, then it should be completely removed to the base.
  • If a new structure has been installed, then excess polyurethane foam remains. It is cut off with a clerical knife. You can not allow the withdrawal of excess.
  • All joints and gaps between the box and the wall are smeared. Sealing is carried out around the entire perimeter.
  • Sections of the walls are finished with plaster. If sheet and panel materials are installed, then the slopes of the entrance door are filled without carefully leveling the surface.
  • Treatment with antiseptic and priming compounds is mandatory. This will help prevent mold and mildew growth. And it will also improve adhesion if the finishing of the door slopes after the installation of the entrance door is carried out with decorative mixtures.
  • A complete absence of areas that may contain small cracks should be achieved. It is these, sometimes imperceptible defects that are the source of drafts and unpleasant howls when it comes to entrance openings.

Slopes on the door are mounted only after complete preparation.

Technological aspects of working with some materials

Each of the materials has its own characteristics and technological aspects that should be considered in more detail.

Working with plaster: simple and decorative (textured)

Slopes on the front door using ordinary plaster are made as follows:

  1. The required amount of the mixture is prepared, which should be enough for 35-40 minutes of work. If there are surpluses, they will quickly lose their properties.
  2. The solution should be applied in layers that are equal to 1-1.5 centimeters. It is taken into account that more than two layers require reinforcement with a reinforcing mesh.
  3. To obtain a flat surface, beacons are installed. They are fixed on a small amount of plaster.
  4. The experience should be realistically evaluated. If it is not enough, then a wooden strip is laid along the outer edge along the entire perimeter. It should protrude across the width of the applied layer. That is, it will serve as a guide in order to prevent curvature.
  5. After drying, beacons are removed, which leave behind small defects. They are removed with a newly prepared solution. Care must be taken when removing slats. The corners can be reinforced with perforated corners.

After the surface is completely dry, the slopes for the entrance doors are finished with decorative materials. It could be paint, wallpaper. But decorative plaster () will look much more interesting. It is applied after priming:

  • The decorative mixture is laid on the surface.
  • With the help of various devices, a relief is formed (see video). If a decorative solution is used, the coating is obtained by correct spreading.
  • Subsequently, depending on the material used, paint, varnish or waxing is performed.

Thus, plaster can still be an excellent solution for finishing slopes, especially if simple renovations or interior renovations are being carried out.

Drywall: installation on putty

How to make the slopes of the front door using gypsum boards? The work is carried out according to the following principle:

How to close up the joints and cracks that appear? Indeed, when drywall fragments are installed on the front door with their own hands, finishing measures are necessary. They consist in the fact that the corners are formed using perforated linings, and the surface is covered with a layer of putty.

Installation of gypsum boards differs from plastering in that the base is formed much faster. The work does not require special skills.

MDF panels: fastening to the lathing

Decorating slopes with MDF panels is carried out on the lathing. This method is preferable for situations where the assembly seam is more than 4 cm.

The product should be installed using the following technology:

  1. A wooden beam is mounted along the entire perimeter of the opening. Parts are laid horizontally. Fixation is carried out on the dowels.
  2. It is advisable to treat the planks with an antiseptic before installation.
  3. The resulting cells are filled with insulation.
  4. All areas are measured. Panels are cut out. They are tried on in their places.
  5. Fastening takes place on self-tapping screws, which are screwed into the very edges. They will be covered with decorative corners.
  6. Thus, all elements are fixed to the frame.

See the photos before and after finishing with MDF panels:

Sheathing of MDF slopes: doorway before and after finishing

Laminated chipboard: installation on vertical posts

Do-it-yourself door slopes with chipboard is not the best solution. But with proper installation, the coating will be durable.

  1. The whole process almost completely repeats the work with MDF panels. The difference is that the timber is installed vertically. That is, you need to get two racks, which are fixed at each edge.
  2. For work, LDPC is used, which is most suitable in thickness. After taking measurements, the parts are sawn.
  3. In order not to repair the material due to water ingress, all open ends are coated with sealant.
  4. The elements are fixed through pre-drilled holes, which at the initial depth should be slightly larger than the diameter of the head. This will allow the screws to be sunk in so as not to damage the front side. All holes are covered with special wax or sealed with overlays.
  5. All corners and joints are closed with decorative corners.

This method is convenient if the slopes of interior doors are faced, which are less susceptible to moisture.

PVC panels: glued

This material is less commonly used for such work. Also, many people mistakenly believe that you can give preference to the cheapest options. In fact, such a choice leads to the fact that the coating begins to deteriorate immediately after installation: defects appear, color changes.

Most often, plastic panels are fixed with glue:

  1. Preparatory work is being done carefully. The differences should not be more than 2 mm per 1 m.
  2. The panels are cut according to the dimensions taken from the areas to be faced.
  3. It should be borne in mind that the fastening is carried out with glue. Therefore, before you install the slopes on the door with your own hands, all surfaces must be pre-treated. A primer is used for the walls, and the plastic is slightly sanded from the inside with sandpaper. Such procedures will increase adhesion.
  4. The glue is applied with a snake. It is important to take into account that excess mixture is immediately removed, otherwise the surface may be damaged, which will lead to repair or replacement of parts.
  5. The elements are pressed to the base, but not held, but immediately come off. After waiting a few minutes, they are finally installed.
  6. Now all that remains is to fix the decorative fragments.

The easiest and fastest way to install PVC panels on slopes is to glue

Modern PVC options have sufficient strength and beauty. Sandwich panels are used as an alternative.

Decorative stone and brick (tile): the main thing is to draw up a diagram

How to make door slopes made of artificial stone or similar materials? The procedure is as follows:

  1. It all starts with drawing up a diagram. It should reflect the real position of the elements. If the laying of bricks can be drawn on paper, then more work will have to be done with the stone.
  2. Initially, the surface is marked. It is immediately taken into account whether the details will lie only inside the opening or frame the outer part.
  3. Detailing is done on the floor. It should be detailed enough.
  4. Now they start facing. The stone is fixed with glue or a special mixture. It is important to consider whether a suture or seamless technology will be used.
  5. After installation, if the surface is not protected, it is varnished.

Thus, door slopes can be made of various materials. Each option is selected individually.

After the entrance doors are installed in the apartment or house, ensuring the safety of the home, finishing work must be done. Outside, the entrance doors are ennobled with platbands, and if there is damage to the wall, then they are sealed with mortar. From the inside, everything must be done beautifully, and slopes are made to hide the irregularities. You can make them on your own, there is nothing difficult about it. It is necessary to select the material, and then carry out all the work in accordance with the developed technologies.

Features of the device of the slopes of the entrance doors

If the doors are installed by professionals, then finishing the slopes is not their responsibility. You either have to pay extra for such work or do it yourself. If you understand the sequence of finishing, you can handle it without any problems.

The slopes of the entrance doors not only allow you to give a beautiful and complete look to the entrance to an apartment or house, but also hide the attachment points of the door frame, thus increasing the protection against burglary. In addition, correctly executed slopes help to insulate the entrance doors and increase their sound insulation characteristics.

Even the most expensive and beautiful doors will look unsightly if there are no slopes at all or they are not neatly executed. When designing this element, it is imperative to take into account both the material of the door leaf and frame, and the design of the corridor. Slopes should harmoniously fit into the interior of the room, therefore, special attention should be paid to the choice of material for their manufacture.

Door slopes are:

  • outdoor. The front door is almost always mounted flush with the wall surface. For finishing external slopes, it is enough to install platbands, and if there is slight damage to the wall, then they are sealed with mortar, then the wall is covered with finishing material;

    External slopes are usually covered with a casing

  • internal. Since these elements are located inside the apartment and are constantly in sight, a wide variety of materials can be used for their decoration. Internal slopes should be in harmony not only with the material of the canvas, but also with the entire furnishings in the room.

    Different materials can be used to decorate internal slopes, the main thing is that they are in harmony with the interior of the entrance area

For the slopes of the entrance doors, you can use:

  • plastering. This is a cheap and reliable method, but it takes certain skills to master it. First, you need to properly prepare the solution, and then evenly distribute it over the wall surface around the door frame;
  • panels fixed with glue. The walls are carefully leveled, special glue is applied to them, after which the finishing panels are glued. They can be from different materials, but the principle of the work is the same;
  • panels installed on the frame. This finish allows you to cover uneven walls. The frame is made of metal profiles or wooden bars, fastened to the wall and panels are already installed on it. Inside, you can hide wires and other communications, install lighting fixtures or lay insulating material.

What materials are slopes made of

There are no ideal materials, they all have their advantages and disadvantages, and the choice depends only on the financial capabilities and taste preferences of the owner of the house or apartment. To do it correctly, you first need to familiarize yourself with the characteristics and features of all used slope finishing options:

  1. Drywall. This is a popular but time consuming method. First, the sheets are attached to the wall, and then they are putty and covered with finishing material. The result is a perfectly flat surface that can be painted in the desired color. Among the shortcomings, it should be noted that over time, the paint will smear, and if wallpaper is glued, then they can tear.

    Using drywall to finish the slopes is a popular but time consuming option.

  2. Plaster. This type of finish requires special skills in order to obtain a beautiful and even surface. After plastering the opening, it will also need to be painted or pasted over with wallpaper. The main advantage of this option is its low cost. Cons - the finish coat can be damaged over time, and a lot of dirt and debris forms during work.

    After plastering, the slopes must be finished with finishing material

  3. Decorative plaster. This is a modern look of the previous material, it is applied to a previously plastered surface. You can choose textured plaster or with colored chips. Such a coating has a long service life and a beautiful appearance. Its disadvantage is the high cost, as well as the fact that the work is rather dirty and time consuming and also requires special skills.

  4. MDF panels. This is the easiest and most affordable way. To install MDF panels, simple tools are required, and even a novice master can cope with such a task.

    Decorating slopes with MDF panels is simple and quick

  5. Laminate. Laminate, like MDF panels, is easy to install. This is a cheap and affordable material, but the slopes from it will not look very presentable and will not be suitable for expensive apartments.

    Laminate is not suitable for finishing the slopes of entrance doors in apartments with an expensive interior

  6. Natural wood. This is an expensive and environmentally friendly material, but it is not difficult to fix it. This solution is suitable when the hallway is decorated in the appropriate style. The wooden surface must be periodically treated with special compounds that protect against moisture and decay.

    Natural wood is suitable when the hallway is decorated in the appropriate style

  7. Chipboard panels. This material has a low cost, but its service life will also be small. Chipboard is afraid of moisture and at high humidity begins to exfoliate.

    Chipboard panels are afraid of high humidity

  8. Dobory - ready-made special elements that are used for finishing the slopes of both entrance and interior doors. You can choose a material that will exactly match the door frame. The cost of accessories is higher than that of panels or laminate, but their appearance is also more attractive.
  9. PVC panels. They will be cheap, any home craftsman will be able to cope with the installation work. Plastic is not afraid of moisture, has a long service life, and is easy to care for. The disadvantage of PVC panels is their not very presentable appearance.

    Even a beginner can trim the slopes with the help of PVC panels.

  10. Natural or artificial stone. Beautiful slopes can be created from stone, which, moreover, will have a long service life and high wear resistance. The disadvantage is that laying the stone requires a certain skill and a lot of time. If the slopes are finished with natural or artificial stone, then the adjacent walls should be plastered, as wallpaper or panels are not suitable in this case.

    Artificial stone slopes have a beautiful appearance and high wear resistance

  11. Mosaic and tiles. It is also a durable and durable material, but usually tiles are used in the kitchen, bathroom or toilet and many people do not perceive it on the slopes of the entrance doors. In addition, laying tiles, and even more so mosaics, takes a long time and requires special skills.

    Tile slopes are not perceived by all people, since this material is usually used in the kitchen and in the bathroom.

Required tools and materials

In order to independently finish the door slopes, you first need to decide on the method of their installation. Depending on whether the surface will be plastering or laying the material in a frame and frameless way, you may need:

The main stages of finishing the slopes of the front door

After you have decided on the method of finishing the slopes of the entrance doors and purchased the necessary materials and tools, you can proceed with the installation. Almost any home craftsman can do this work with his own hands; it is enough to perform all the stages in accordance with the developed technologies.

Preparatory work

Although different materials are used for finishing the slopes, the preparatory work in all cases is carried out in the same way:

Plastering

It is best to plaster the slopes of the entrance doors at the stage of apartment renovation, since a lot of dirt is formed during the work.

  1. Surface priming. This step is necessary to ensure good adhesion of the mortar.

    Primer increases the adhesion of materials

  2. Installation of beacons. Beacons are installed using the building level. They allow you to mark the thickness of the application of the plaster and help to distribute it evenly.

    Lighthouses help to apply the plaster evenly

  3. Corner installation. With the help of a solution, a corner is fixed at the junction of the wall and the slope.

    The corner protects the junction of the wall and the slope

  4. Fastening the painting net. It is necessary to increase the strength of the plaster layer.
  5. Application of the solution. A solution is thrown over the lighthouses, after which it is distributed according to the rule.

    After applying the solution, it is leveled with the rule

  6. Priming the plastered surface.
  7. Finishing putty application.
  8. Grouting the surface. The coating is processed with a fine grater so that it is perfectly even.

    For grouting, use a special tool and a mesh

  9. Painting. Water-based paint is usually used, as it dries quickly and is practically odorless.

    To paint the slopes, use water-based paint

Adhesive finish

Various materials can be glued to the slopes, including drywall, laminate, MDF or chipboard panels. This method can be used when the walls do not have serious defects. Minor deviations from the level can be corrected by applying a layer of plaster, the thickness of which should not be more than 8–10 mm.

The process of gluing panels installation consists of the following stages:

  1. Base primer. To do this, use special formulations that allow you to increase the adhesion of materials.
  2. Measurement of slopes. Using measuring tools, the dimensions of the slopes are measured and transferred to the material used for finishing (drywall, chipboard, MDF, sandwich panels). Drywall can be installed both vertically and horizontally, since then all the seams will be putty. It is better to install MDF and chipboard panels with one canvas so that there are no joints.

    Slope measurements are transferred to the material used

  3. Glue application. This is done in a square-nesting way every 15–20 cm. It is not necessary to completely cover the material with glue. A film should appear on the surface of the glue, for this you need to wait a few minutes.

    The glue is applied in a square-nesting manner.

  4. Fastening panels. They are laid starting from the upper edge and pressed with force on the places under which the glue is located. The panels can be attached to liquid nails, polyurethane glue or polyurethane foam.

    The panels are installed in place and well pressed against the supporting surface

  5. Finishing finish. If drywall was used, then after its installation it is necessary to apply a topcoat. Laminate or MDF boards do not require additional finishing.

Frame method for finishing slopes

In order to exclude the possibility of surface deformation after plastering or installing heavy MDF sheets, the frame method of finishing slopes is used. To create a frame, both metal profiles and wooden blocks treated with an antiseptic can be used.

Work order:

  1. The surface is treated with an antiseptic primer.
  2. Vertical profiles are mounted. The extreme profile is set in level and fixed with dowels. The second post is set in accordance with the first and also fixed.

    To increase the rigidity of the frame, transverse profiles are installed

  3. Install wiring and insulation. If you plan to install an electric lock, a cable is laid inside the frame to connect it. Insulation (mineral wool or foam) is also placed in the cells.
  4. Carry out interior decoration. If these are MDF boards or laminate, then finishing is not needed. Plasterboard is putty and painted or pasted over with wallpaper.

To decorate the slopes of entrance doors in an original way, artificial stone or clinker tiles are often used. In this case, the rule is followed: there is more stone at the bottom, less at the top. This solution allows you to smooth the transition to other finishing materials, and the irregularities give the slopes a more natural look.

Video: creating the slopes of the front door with your own hands

Facing door jambs at the entrance to a house or apartment performs 2 functions - decorative and protective. It not only closes the unsightly joint between the frame and the wall, but also prevents the penetration of cold from the outside through the opening. There are several ways how to trim the slopes of the front door using various building materials available on the market. You can choose the appropriate design and do this simple work with your own hands if you familiarize yourself with the common options and finishing technology described below.

How to trim the slopes - materials to choose from

To beautifully sheathe the opening after installing the door or in the process of repairing the hallway, you can use the following materials:

  • traditional plaster, painted in the desired color;
  • wood and its derivatives - laminated chipboard, MDF or laminate;
  • drywall sheets;
  • PVC lining and a variety of plastic panels;
  • decorative stone and tiles.

Looks more beautiful when the colors of the plinths and slopes match the trim

Advice. Whatever building material you choose, it is important to choose the right color for it. From the inside, the jambs must be designed in such a way that they match as much as possible in color with the baseboards and the framing of the interior doors, as shown in the photo. Outside or from the side of the entrance, it is easier to fix the slopes - buy platbands or add-ons for the appearance of the door leaf.

If we compare different types of cladding by price, then the most affordable option is plastic panels, and the most expensive is products made of natural or artificial stone. In addition to the low cost, PVC lining is distinguished by a wide range of colors and patterns and ease of installation, since it does not need finishing. The weak point of the material is the fear of mechanical damage and deep scratches, which can be removed only by replacing damaged lamellas.

Plastic very well imitates a cut of a tree

Plastering also refers to an inexpensive way to build any slopes, although to implement it you need to have basic finishing skills. You can plaster and paint the doorway both from the inside and from the outside. This option is relevant when the door is installed in a narrow niche and there is simply not enough space for installing drywall and any panels.

Plastered and painted opening, decorated with corners

As for the gypsum board sheets, their use allows you to align the curvature of the walls, artificially increase their thickness or make slopes at the desired angles. Plasterboard products are good heat and sound insulation, but require finishing - putty, wallpapering or painting. In addition, ceramic tiles are successfully installed on drywall.

Wood and chipboard materials are a compromise solution for the price and convenient from the point of view of do-it-yourself installation on slopes. How cute they look in the entrance is shown in the photo.

Facing with MDF extensions

This is the most practical and fastest way to trim door slopes in an apartment with thin reinforced concrete partitions. In such cases, the width of the jambs does not exceed 10 cm and ready-made sets consisting of MDF strips and platbands are ideal for cladding. Of course, they should be matched to the color of the skirting boards or the pattern of the door linings.

To install additional elements, you will need additional materials:

  • wooden beam 4 x 4 or 4 x 2 cm
  • polyurethane assembly foam;
  • self-tapping screws up to 5 cm long;
  • dowels (wooden rods for hidden fastening);
  • metal corners with holes, such are sold in hardware stores.

Before making the slopes of the entrance door from MDF, it is necessary to cut off the polyurethane foam that appears from the cracks after installation, and remove the remaining plaster from the ends of the walls. After that, measure the door frame and get to work, following the instructions:

  1. According to the results of measurements, trim the facing strips and twist them with self-tapping screws into a box - a portal. It should be close to the door sash and hide the protruding end of the wall.
  2. From the outside of your box, fix the iron corners - 3 pcs. on the sides and 2 pcs. up and down. Put it in the design position and mark the walls opposite the corners.
  3. At the marked points, install bars 8-10 cm long, and then attach the MDF portal to them with self-tapping screws. Blow out the cracks with foam or put insulation inside.
  4. Insert the dowels into the prepared holes on the box and platbands (if they are not there, drill them) and hammer the latter into the slots by hand. The slope finish is ready.

Advice. If the repair has already been completed in the hallway, then it will not hurt to grease the dowels with liquid nails or other adhesive mixture. Otherwise, put the platbands without glue so that they can be removed freely.

Paneling technology

This method is suitable for any panel materials - PVC lining, laminate or chipboard. The main condition: the opening of the front door must be wide enough for the installation of frame elements made of steel profiles or wooden beams. The optimal margin of distance between the inner surface of the door frame and the end of the wall is 5 cm on each side.

Note. When buying one or another finishing material, do not forget to purchase elements for decorating the junction points - starting plates, outer and inner corners, connectors. You can also be creative: close the cracks in the corners with curly polyurethane skirting boards.

The order of work on the improvement of the entrance slopes looks like this:

  1. Measure the doorway in several places and cut blanks from profiles or bars for the frame. Here you need to orient yourself in place: in one case, there will be enough external vertical racks with horizontal bridges, in the other, you need to put internal ones as well.
  2. Mount the frame by attaching the beams to the wall and door strip with dowels and self-tapping screws. At this stage, level out the curvature of the walls using a building level and shims of different thicknesses.
  3. Begin the installation of panels by attaching the starting plate or corner. If the slats are planned to be recruited horizontally, then it must be placed vertically and vice versa.
  4. Install the first panel and attach its comb to the crate with self-tapping screws or a stapler for plastic cladding. Insert the next element into the previous one and fix it again. In this way, seal the entire opening around the perimeter.
  5. Place and secure the platbands or outer corners.

Advice. When installing the battens, take care of the electrical wiring going through the front doors. Make special grooves for it or drill holes to hide it behind the front paneling. It is also recommended to lay insulation in the cavity - mineral wool or expanded polystyrene.

It is better not to sew up a door sill that is experiencing constant stress from abrasion with laminate or PVC products. Make it easier and more reliable - install a wide board or fill in a small cement screed. How to decorate the doors at the entrance to the apartment with laminate is described in the next video:

In some cases, when the ends of the partitions are quite even, vinyl panels can be installed without a frame - simply put on glue. Before doing this, it is important to treat the surfaces with a deep penetration primer.

Plasterboard instructions

If, after installing the doors, a reinforced concrete or brick partition has undergone destruction and requires alignment using a plasterboard system, then the technology of facing the opening is similar to the installation of plastic panels. A frame made of wood or galvanized profiles is mounted on the base, and the gypsum board sheets are screwed to it with self-tapping screws. Then the finishing is done - putty and cleaning of the seams with further painting.

The fastening of gypsum plasterboards without lathing deserves special attention. The method allows you to level the curvature of the walls due to a thick layer of adhesive building mixture. The cladding technology is as follows:

  1. Cut out cladding elements from the gypsum board according to the side dimensions of the opening and prepare the walls - clean from the old coating and prime.
  2. Prepare the adhesive and apply spot-on to the top plasterboard part, as shown in the photo.
  3. Attach the element to the wall and press down using a wooden support with a horizontal bar. Be sure to check the position of the sheet and wait until the glue hardens.
  4. After the adhesive has hardened, remove the stand and additionally fix the sheet with dowels, drilling it in 3-4 places.
  5. Repeat the operation on the side slopes of the entrance door.

Advice. In order for the ceiling element to adhere to the wall faster, apply a thin layer of polyurethane foam along the edge before installation.

The subtleties of the finishing process using drywall will be told to you by the master in the video:

Conclusion

If you have familiarized yourself with our material and watched the training videos, then you can certainly choose for yourself a suitable option for finishing door slopes. The proposed methods are quite simple, and therefore available to every skilled home owner. If you wish, you can also perform plastering, but in this case, the cladding is complicated by wet processes that cause a lot of inconvenience. The correct application of the plaster mixture is shown in the last video:

New doors have been installed, debris has been swept, and the idealistic picture of a fresh renovation is disturbed only by the slopes for the entrance doors. The companies that install the doors do not always undertake to repair the slopes - the pleasure to put the finishing point in the repair, in this case, fell to you!

Do-it-yourself front door slopes - what to do?

If from the outside the doors are a complete composition with platbands, then inside the apartment the view is far from ideal: gray concrete, foam, bricks and fasteners. All this disgrace will help to hide the internal slopes of the entrance door - a section of the wall bordering on the end with the entrance. Fortunately, this process can be performed in several scenarios, and you just have to choose which one will be most understandable for you and available for execution.

People are trying to install slopes on the front door for two completely understandable reasons: to give a complete look and, more importantly, to cover the door frame fasteners, on which its burglary resistance depends. There are several ways of forming slopes: sheathing with finishing material on a pre-prepared frame, grouting and plastering, gluing finishing materials. Finishing materials can be very different: the usual drywall, laminate, wooden lamellas, cellulose panels and much more.

Sealing the slopes of the entrance door with cement or putty mortar is the most effective in terms of sound insulation and insulation.

In addition, this option is most acceptable in terms of protecting the door structure - a burglar will have to make a lot of noise to find fasteners under the cement layer. By itself, finishing with a solution does not have any special visual appeal, however, decorative finishing materials can be mounted on the layer of solution, achieving any effect, or textured paint can be applied.

The easiest and fastest way is to install the finishing material on a frame made of a metal profile or wooden bars. In addition to simplicity, it is also economical, especially in cases where too much mortar is required to seal slopes. This option allows even a person far from construction to achieve a perfectly flat surface. A frame slope is the only solution when you want to install lighting and switches directly in the doorway. Do not forget about the possibility of hiding in the frame "traces" of communications - wires and cables.

Installation of the slopes of the entrance door - the preparatory stage

Whichever finishing method you choose, the preparatory work will be the same. First you need to protect the door leaf and the frame with masking tape, and it is better to cover the entire surface with a film. And only then proceed to leveling the base - if some areas protrude too much, they need to be cut, and also get rid of all loose materials that are too fragile.

With a broom or a brush with a fairly coarse bristle, we sweep the dust from all cracks and cracks, thoroughly sweep every centimeter of the base, especially if you decide to finish with mortar - the adhesion strength of the materials depends on this. Further, the surface is primed with deep penetration compounds. However, aerated concrete or similar loose material should be primed with a regular topcoat.

At this stage, you can lay the electrical wiring under the switch or provide a through hole for the cable - for this purpose, you can fix an aluminum tube at the very bottom of the plinth with a slightly larger diameter than the diameter of the cable, through which it can subsequently be laid. If you plan to get by with the formation of the frame, then you will have to tinker with the wire after it is created.

How to close up the slopes of the front door - plaster

When the gypsum composition under the lighthouses has hardened, start mixing the cement-sand mortar in a standard ratio of 1 to 4. The sand for the mortar should be well sifted, without debris and lumps, cement - grade M400. It is necessary to mix the components with a construction mixer or a drill with a special nozzle at low speeds. The consistency of the finished solution should be at the level of the density of the curd mass. If you know how to work with the solution quickly, then you can add a portion of gypsum.

A wide spatula and a trowel are the main tools for the master plasterer, without which he cannot level the surface. After slightly moistening the base with water to increase the adhesion of the materials, apply the solution to the slope and level it along the beacons with a spatula. After a day, you can apply two layers of putty - the main one and the finishing one. The last layer is sanded with an abrasive mesh. What to do with the slope after that - leave it as it is, paint it or cover it with a finishing material - it's up to you, all options are acceptable.

How to make the slopes of the front door on the frame - a quick way

The preparatory stage, described at the very beginning, is not canceled - although we do not use any solutions, it is necessary to prime the surface. This will prevent shedding in the future. To create the frame, you will need metal profiles used to create plasterboard structures, or wooden blocks. Both should fit snugly against the wall, so the surface should be fairly flat.

To strengthen the structure, jumpers are installed on the main bearing elements, especially at the corners between the sides of the opening and the upper plane. Then wires and cables are laid. If you use drywall for cladding, it is enough to fix it around the perimeter with self-tapping screws. To hide the junction of the drywall and the wall, you can fill it with mortar, but it is easier and faster to close it with platbands. Be sure to install perforated corners at the edges, and seal the joints with special tape. It remains only to putty the surface and level it with a fine float.

Medium density MDF boards have better aesthetic and technical qualities. Fixing the panels can be carried out both with self-tapping screws and with the help of small nails, if the crate is wooden. The fasteners should be distributed along the edges or in other places that you plan to cover with trims and corners. You can fix the latter on liquid nails.

By the same principle, you can finish the surface of the slopes with a laminate or parquet board. With them it is somewhat easier - nails can be driven into locks, this will not interfere with a high-quality connection. So that all fasteners will be reliably hidden from prying eyes, except that the corners will still have to be hidden behind the corners.

Entrance door slopes - material combination

If you are not a master at leveling surfaces, this method is for you. The essence of the method is to attach the finishing materials not to the frame, but to a layer of cement-sand mortar or glue. To do this, the slopes for the entrance doors must already be leveled and primed. It is also necessary to indicate the level of the slope and provide an emphasis for finishing materials. For this purpose, screws or self-tapping screws are screwed into the surface so that their heads form one straight line. Consider the thickness of the mortar and the thickness of the finishing materials themselves, so as not to miscalculate with the overall dimensions of the slope.

Then we knead the solution according to the instructions already described above and fill the entire slope space with the finished mixture. To be more reliable, we recommend removing the cement-sand mortar a little less than the level of the caps, as evenly as you can. Let it harden properly (at least 1 day) and apply an adhesive solution to the surface.

Also apply the glue to the back of the finishing material. Attaching the trim sheets to the slope, lightly press down on them so that they rest firmly against the surface and the air between them and the cement layer comes out. Use a level to find out if you have succeeded in aligning the sheets evenly, and while the glue has not hardened, correct their positions. Then you can attach the platbands and corners, if any.
