"English in focus" ("Spotlight") - the first Russian educational and methodological complex (TMC) for grades 1-11, at the same time focused on the Russian State Standard of General Education in Foreign Languages ​​and the requirements of the Council of Europe in the field of teaching foreign languages. This is a joint project of the Prosveshchenie Publishing House (Russia) and the Express Publishing House (Great Britain), which offers a new and unique approach to learning English. The educational-methodical set "Spotlight" was developed by well-known Russian and foreign (British) authors. All materials have been tested in Russian schools. The "Spotlight" series for grades 1-11 consists of three parts: Spotlight 1-4 (Primary), Spotlight 5-9 (Secondary), Spotlight 10-11 (Higher) ... EMC "Spotlight" for grades 1-4 is designed for 2 hours per week (68 hours per year).

EMC "English in focus" ("Spotlight") for elementary schools of general education institutions (authors: N. I. Bykova, D. Dooley, M. D. Pospelova, V. Evans) was created on the basis of Model programs in foreign languages, taking into account the requirements of the Federal component of the state standard of primary general education in foreign languages.

Tutorials Spotlight for grades 2-4 are included in the federal list of textbooks recommended for use in the implementation of state-accredited educational programs of primary general, basic general, secondary general education (order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia dated March 31, 2014 N 253).

Course developed Spotlight Starter... EMC is intended for 1st grade students of general education institutions in which there is an opportunity to start teaching English at this stage. EMC "English in focus" ("Spotlight"):

The “Spotlight” teaching and learning complex is characterized by a cyclical repetition of the studied material. Visual aids (handouts, posters), CDs and DVDs are used to consolidate and repeat the structures and vocabulary passed through. Taking into account the psychological, typological and age characteristics of junior schoolchildren, the Textbook uses exercises and tasks of various forms and content, which are accompanied by colorful illustrations and music.

Spotlight textbooks for grades 5-9 are included in the federal list of textbooks recommended for use in the implementation of state-accredited educational programs of primary general, basic general, secondary general education (order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia dated March 31, 2014 N 253). TextbookSpotlight is the main component of the teaching materials and has a clear structure. Course textbooks include 8-10 thematic modules. New lexical and grammatical material is contained in the first lessons of the module, its development is organized through the integration of all types of speech activity. These lessons, together with the English in Use speech etiquette lesson, form the core of the module. The lessons of regional studies of both the countries of the target language (Culture Corner, Spotlight on Britain) and Russia (Spotlight on Russia) provide students with materials for the development of socio-cultural competence, contribute to the formation of the ability to lead a polylogue of cultures. The Spotlight on Russia section at the main school has the format of a magazine for teenagers, which contains text materials about various aspects of life in the home country and questions for discussion and assignments.

Workbook , like the textbook, includes up to 10 main modules, each of which corresponds to the corresponding section of the textbook. The exercises are aimed at consolidating the lexical and grammatical material. Assignments differ in a variety of formats. The Translator's Corner heading at the end of each module offers students translation exercises for basic phrases. The workbook is accompanied by a sound aid for practicing reading aloud and listening skills. Since 2011, the workbook has been published together with an electronic supplement. Book to read with audio accompaniment is a mandatory component when working on each module. The book is divided into episodes. The volume of the episode is adequate for work during the lesson, taking into account the completion of the full set of tasks for the texts. Colorful illustrations develop forecasting skills, contribute to the effective organization of speech activity based on what has been read. All books serve as the basis for a school play at the end of the school year. All books for reading represent famous works of English literature of different genres and authors.

Collection of test tasks provides a monitoring process on a regular and objective basis. The collection includes up to ten control tasks in two versions, which are performed upon completion of work on each module. The collection also provides material for intermediate control and the final annual control work. It also contains the keys to the tests and the texts of the listening assignments.

Language portfolio - one of the first manuals to promote the formation of skills for independent work and self-esteem. It is designed to help your child learn English. It can include any additional material received from the teacher in the learning process. The introduction, performed in Russian, allows the child to independently comprehend what a language portfolio is, how to maintain it and what it gives. Working with the Language Passport section - a record of your achievements (certificates, works included in the Language Portfolio) - a novelty for the Russian school. Students' independent work on the Language Biography section requires attention. Discussion of a selection of questions under the heading All about Me! allows learners to reflect on the importance of the language environment. Electronic supplement to textbooks for self-study at home - a joint product of the Prosveshchenie publishing house and ABBYY. It is designed specifically for students. The disc contains the following materials: exercises from the textbook, which must be done at home (memorize a poem, practice reading the text, etc.); Workbook tracks needed for homework; educational dictionaries ABBYY Lingvo; educational game program for fast memorization of words.

Audio course for a book to read contains a work read by native speakers, a play played by roles, songs and melodies of songs in karaoke format. The audio course can be used in English lessons, extracurricular activities and at home on your own.

Teacher's book contains materials and guidelines for organizing and conducting classes at this stage of training, thematic planning, keys to a workbook, test tasks and a book for reading, a script for staging a play based on this book. The book for the teacher also presents the calendar-thematic planning of educational material, detailed lesson methodological recommendations and cultural commentaries with the goals and objectives of each lesson. A distinctive feature of the book for a teacher is that it is published in Russian in the methodological terminology generally accepted in the educational space of Russia.

Working programm is intended for English teachers working on the "English in Focus" teaching and learning method for grades 5-9 of general education organizations.
