Acrylic bathtub how to care. Acrylic bathroom care: how to maintain a radiant look

Acrylic bathtub is the dream of many homeowners who do not acquire this attribute due to ignorance and misconceptions about the difficulties of using it. Many people mistakenly consider acrylic a capricious material that requires special care and high costs. But is everything so difficult and unattainable? Decide for yourself. How to care for an acrylic bathtub is described in the article.

How to care for and use an acrylic bathtub at home

The acrylic material requires almost the same maintenance as the enamel coating of sanitary ware. So what do you need to know about caring for an acrylic bathroom?

  1. The shine is gone. To restore the gloss effect, it is necessary to polish the surface with a product applied to a soft cloth (napkin).
  2. There are stains / streaks. The dirt should be cleaned with products used for smooth materials and surfaces.
  3. A water stone formed. This problem can be dealt with with improvised means - citric acid or acetic acid (7%). To remove limescale, you need one fifteen-gram pack of acid or one and a half liters of vinegar.
  4. There are scratches. What is a common problem for acrylic, in this it is inferior. To return the bathtub to smoothness, you need to: clean all scratches with fine-grained sanding paper, rinse and polish (for deep scratches, you need to polish with liquid acrylic).
  5. Rust has formed. You can get rid of "red stains" with the help of special products (from rusty deposits) that are suitable for acrylic (see instructions).

Follow these steps to clean your bathtub with vinegar:

  • fill the bathtub with warm water;
  • add vinegar / acid;
  • stir;
  • leave overnight, preferably 12-14 hours;
  • pour everything out and rinse thoroughly with a shower;
  • wipe dry with a soft cloth.

In addition to the above reasons requiring the care of the acrylic bathroom, preventive measures should be taken: rinse with warm water, wipe dry, disinfect (at least once a year) and adhere to the tips listed below.

Tips for maintaining an acrylic bathroom:

  1. When using any means for cleaning the surface of the bathroom, be sure to use rubber gloves, ventilate the room afterwards and do not forget about accuracy - contact with the mucous membrane can be dangerous.
  2. Do not use care products for other purposes. Eliminate all detergents containing chlorine, ammonia, powder, acetone and other aggressive components.
  3. Use only a soft cloth or sponge, no abrasives that can scratch the surface.
  4. After cleaning the bath with any means, thoroughly rinse the surface.
  5. Make sure that water from the tap does not drip, which can lead to rust. Before buying a mixer, you need to find out.
  6. If you need to bathe your pets or do the dishes, cover the bottom with something. Try not to put metal objects in the bath.
  7. Do not use very hot water.

How often and how should acrylic bathtubs be cleaned?

Look at reviews of acrylic bathtubs from the same manufacturer and see how different they are. For some owners, the product quickly loses its whiteness, scratches appear on it, and there is no trace of its former presentability, as a result, such users sincerely do not recommend acrylic products to others. Others, on the other hand, are delighted with their baths and generously share tips on how to keep them snow-white for years to come. Do you think someone got married, but someone was lucky? Not at all! Often it all depends on how the buyer reacted to his purchase.

What affectsservice life of acrylic bath?

Danger 1. Each material has its own characteristics. Despite the numerous advantages of acrylic, he nevertheless does not like to be rubbed with hard brushes, and even with the use of cleaning agents, so-called abrasive materials. In this case, the structure of the material is disturbed, microscratches appear on the ideally smooth inner surface of the material. Even if they are not visible to the naked eye, the remains of foam and gel after hygienic procedures will "notice" them and begin to slowly fill them. As a result, a yellow bloom appears on the once-white bathtub. Light at first, but if you try to get rid of it with the same abrasive powders, the scratches become deeper and more and more dirt settles in them, increasing the yellowness and deteriorating the appearance. So to the frequently asked question, "Can an acrylic bathtub be cleaned with baking soda?" the answer is obvious. Of course not. The chemical activity of soda is minimal, but soda can scratch the surface of acrylic. The more diligent the hostess is in this kind of care for an acrylic bathroom, the faster the product will lose both its whiteness and presentable appearance. Such maintenance will significantly shorten the service life.

Danger 2. The time of using the acrylic bath and compositions containing ethyl alcohol in high concentration, as well as the following substances that can enter into a chemical reaction with acrylic elements and thereby change its quality, will be corrected downward: diluted hydrofluoric and hydrocyanic acids, as well as concentrated sulfuric, nitric and chromic acids. Acrylic solvents are, in addition, chlorinated hydrocarbons (dichloroethane, chloroform, methylene chloride), aldehydes, ketones and esters. When planning to wash an acrylic bath, read the composition of the preparation that you plan to use so that there are no unwanted components in its composition. And the alcohol content was no more than 10% concentration. For example, if you are puzzled by the question of whether it is possible to wash an acrylic bathtub with Domestos, then read the composition and make sure that such aggressive preparations for cleaning acrylic are inapplicable, as well as "Komet", "Pemolux", "Whiteness" and others.

Danger 3. Often, owners inflict irreparable damage to an acrylic bath during repairs in an apartment, dyeing hair, and so on, when they pour various liquids into it without thinking about their composition. So, you should not even accidentally splash acetone, paint thinners, gasoline, pine turpentine, vinegar, citric acid, hydrogen peroxide, chlorine and similar compounds into the bathtub, as well as solvents and cleaning agents belonging to the chemical classes of ketones, diluted hydrofluoric and hydrocyanic acids, halogenated and chlorinated hydrocarbons (dichloroethane, chloroform), aldehydes, benzene, trichlorethylene. Accustomed to cast-iron baths, on which practically no substances act, we habitually throw liquid or its remnants into the bath, without thinking about the possible adverse effect. Of course, in this case, not the entire surface of the bath is damaged, but, as a rule, only the area around the water drain. But this can be the reason for the so common cracking of the area around the drain.

Danger 4. It is also undesirable to rinse the acrylic bath with boiling water. Permissible water temperature - no more than 45 ° С. By the way, doctors agree with this, who recommend taking a bath with a water temperature of no higher than 40 ° C, since a higher temperature can adversely affect cardiac activity, and instead of cheerfulness, a feeling of fatigue will appear. And only for medicinal and herbal baths, the water can be made hotter by 1 ° С -3 ° С.

Danger 5. It is worth protecting the acrylic bath from mechanical damage. Heavy objects that have fallen to the bottom will leave dents, which, of course, can be removed with a repair kit, but not all damage can be repaired. Sharp animal claws can also damage acrylic.

How to wash an acrylic bath?

So, we now know what can not be used to clean an acrylic product. It remains to figure out how to take care of them and what should be the means for washing an acrylic bath . And here everything is extremely simple. Smooth acrylic can be easily cleaned with regular soap on a soft cloth or sponge. Any non-aggressive dishwashing preparations will perfectly cope with the task.

It is even easier to care for an acrylic bathtub with special products. They can be easily found in large stores. They draw attention to themselves with the signature "For acrylic bathtubs". In the assortment of our online store, by the way, there are such preparations, so when asked what means to wash the acrylic bathtub, we will certainly offer "Aquanet Acrylic Bathtub Cleaner" with a spray. And it’s not unreasonable. This tool removes unpleasant odors, destroys germs. It is an aqueous solution of surfactants, a special complex of acids that does not have a harmful effect on acrylic, and also contains useful additives and a flavoring agent.

It is a pleasure to use such a product: just open the bottle by turning the tip of the sprayer and apply it to the surface to be treated. After half a minute, you can simply wash off the applied composition with water. And that will be enough. If it is heavily soiled, repeat the procedure.

How to get rid of specific contaminants?

Often the state of the bath depends not so much on the care and love of the hostess for cleanliness, but on external factors: the composition of the water, the state of the water supply system. For example, the appearance of rusty spots on the surface of acrylic bathtubs does not depend on the quality of the material or the peculiarities of its manufacture - this is a consequence of the high content of iron in the water. Because of this, a film of oxidized iron can form on the surface of the bath over time. By virtue of its properties, acrylic itself cannot "rust", just as it cannot become moldy, since it is a biologically inert material. The appearance of limescale on its surface, respectively, is associated with excessive water hardness, that is, an excessive content of calcium and magnesium in its composition. Therefore, knowing the specifics of the water in your area, you should take care that it does not affect the surrounding objects. And this is not only an acrylic bathtub, but also mixers.

If problems related to the specificity of water nevertheless appeared ...

How to get rid offrom limescale?

    To prevent limescale from appearing, it is advisable to use coarse and fine filters in the water supply system.

    Cope with plaque without negatively affecting acrylic, special products for the care of acrylic bathtubs and, in particular, "Cleaner for acrylic bathtubs Aquanet".

How to get rid offrom yellow spots ?

    If stains appear due to water that is too ferrous, then you must carefully monitor that water does not leak from the mixer.

    If the stains appeared due to the use of abrasive products, then the best way would be to restore it with liquid acrylic.

    Craftsmen advise cleaning stains with a weak solution of acids: acetic or citric. But this should be done only if you have already caused damage to the smooth surface of the bath, which is why the yellowness has arisen, and since there is nothing to lose, you can use this advice, considering that it will not be possible to return the former whiteness.

Memo for the owner of an acrylic bathtub

    Cover the bathtub with plastic wrap during the repair so that construction dust does not get on it;

    If construction dust gets on the surface of the bathtub, then rinse it off with plenty of water without rubbing it over the surface with a rag;

    Do not leave cleaning agents on the surface of the bath for a long time - maximum 5 minutes;

    Carefully study the composition of the cleaning agent before using it to care for acrylic bathtubs;

    Do not use an acrylic bathtub for soaking and washing laundry;

  • Do not wash animals in it.

More recently, baths made of acrylic, a plastic previously widely used in dentistry, have entered the ranks of plumbing products. A variety of shapes, strength and hardness, antibacterial qualities contribute to the popularity of such plumbing. But since the composite material is quite capricious to detergents, it is worth figuring out in advance how to clean an acrylic bathtub and how to do it correctly.

In order not to spoil the sanitary ware, it should be noted that the polymer is sensitive to cleaning powders with abrasives and aggressive chemical solutions. Before starting the treatment of the bath, carefully study the composition of the product and the instructions for its use. Below is a list of chemicals that are not recommended for acrylic care.

  1. Any detergents with abrasive particles (including dry soda). They cause the appearance of micro-scratches on the treated surface of the bath, as a result of which it loses its inherent shine and becomes matte.
  2. Chlorine-containing preparations. After their application, acrylic fades, gloss disappears. In hot tubs, bleach can damage silicone gaskets.
  3. Acetone and other organic solvents. They contribute to the destruction of the structure of the polymer. With prolonged contact, acrylic reacts with the drug and deforms.
  4. Ammonia, liquids with ammonia. They have almost the same effect as solvents, but less pronounced.
  5. Formaldehyde. Cleaner for acrylic bathtubs should not contain such harmful and hazardous components that have a destructive effect on the material.

Acrylic plumbing is not cleaned with concentrated alcohols, alkalis, acids: they cause small cracks and discoloration of the bath.

Important: When caring for a plastic bathtub, do not use hard metal scouring pads or brushes. It is best to clean acrylic with a soft sponge or rag. Dangerous for plastic and too hot water: due to it, deformation of the tank can occur.

Purchased cleaning products

Experienced housewives advise: before proceeding with the procedure and cleaning the acrylic bathtub, you should test the product yourself. To do this, it is squeezed onto the hand and "probed": there should be no sharp crystals in the preparation.

Another test option is to apply a small amount of detergent to an inconspicuous area of the surface. If the appearance of the coating has not deteriorated after application, the treatment can be carried out over the entire area. But it is still better to buy special preparations that guarantee that their use is safe for acrylics, or delicate universal cleaning agents.

It is important to properly care for an acrylic bathtub to extend its life.

Nowadays, there are many tools with which you can clean an acrylic bath. Here is a list of the most effective developments from well-known manufacturers.

"Akrilan"

Its popularity is due to its speed of action and versatility: the drug helps to remove residual detergents, get rid of rust, mold, and salt deposits. "Akrylan" does not damage the surface of the bath - on the contrary, it becomes glossy due to the creation of a thin protective film.

"Ravak"

The line includes several products at once, each of which performs its own function: cleaning, disinfection, restoration of the protective layer.

"Acryl Polish"

The brand is represented by a line of drugs from the manufacturer Koipa. In addition to cleansing gels, it also includes bath repair and polish products.

Having solved the problem of choosing a cleaning agent, all that remains is to clean the bathtub. Usually, the instructions can be found directly on the packaging.

The general rules for using household chemicals at home are as follows:

  • liquids are applied with a sponge, left for some time (from 5 to 20 minutes) on the surface, washed off with water under pressure;
  • spray spray, hold for the specified time, wash off;
  • wipe a clean bath with a dry cloth.

How to clean an acrylic bathtub with improvised products

And how can you wash an acrylic bathtub if there is no way to use household chemicals? The choice of option depends on the nature of the contamination.

Limescale

A weak solution of citric acid will help get rid of limescale (instead of it, you can add 1.5 liters of vinegar to the bath). Hot water is taken into the bath (temperature up to +50 o C), 50 g of lemon are added, left for several hours to soften salt deposits. Drain the working solution, rinse the surface with running water. Finally, remove any remaining moisture with a soft cloth.

Yellowness

The yellowed bottom and walls of the bathtub are whitened with an apple bite, lemon juice or citric acid (20 g per glass of water). They wipe problem areas with liquids, after a few minutes rinse with a stream of water under pressure. The surface is blotted with a dry cloth.

Rust

Rusty streaks are cleaned with soda. Water is added to the powder beforehand. The resulting gruel is applied to the "reddened" places (no need to rub), washed off after 10-15 minutes.

Dirt

Stubborn dirt can be removed with a non-abrasive toothpaste. It is squeezed in a small amount onto a rag, rubbing the stains with it.

You can wash the bath with folk remedies.

Features of washing bathtubs with hydromassage

Special acrylic baths for hydromassage procedures are equipped with nozzles (sprayers) connected to a circulation pump. It creates an overpressure of water, which then flows out with pressure through the small holes of the nozzles in a predetermined direction. If moisture remains on the nozzles, it will cause mold growth, the growth of microorganisms and the formation of a layer of lime deposits.

What is the best way to clean your whirlpool tub and how? The cleaning and disinfection process is combined in several stages:

  1. Fill the reservoir with moderately hot water so that its level is 5-7 cm higher than the nozzles.
  2. Turn off the air supply.
  3. Pour in 50 ml of dishwasher cleaning liquid.
  4. For the purpose of disinfection, add a glass of vinegar to the solution.
  5. For 10-15 minutes, turn on the hydromassage mode. During this time, all accumulated dirt will come out of the nozzles into the bath.
  6. Open the plug and drain the dirty liquid.
  7. They collect clean water into the container and start the hydromassage again - this is necessary to rinse all devices from the detergent and prepare the bath for use.

Acrylic baths are increasingly being chosen by consumers to replace worn out steel and heavy cast iron. Indeed, such plumbing fixtures are characterized by a very attractive, neat appearance, they are distinguished by their low weight and exceptional whiteness. In addition, they are presented in a very wide variety of shapes and sizes.

In addition, acrylic products have a number of other advantages, one of which is complete inertness to corrosion. However, this does not at all relieve the owners of their responsibilities to regularly clean the surfaces. And in general - caring for an acrylic bathroom at home should be systematic - only in this case it will retain its original novelty for many years. By the way, similar rules should be followed by those homeowners who have updated old steel or cast-iron bathtubs with acrylic tabs.

Properties of the acrylic bath surface

In the production of acrylic sanitary accessories, a special polymer is used, which is characterized by sufficient hardness and wear resistance. But to consider it devoid of shortcomings is in no way possible.

Since the "pros" and "cons" of acrylic products directly affect both the rules of their use and the recommendations for regular care, it makes sense to briefly list them.

First - oh merits :

  • Such baths retain the warmth of the water they collect for a much longer time. For this reason, it is more comfortable to take procedures in them.
  • The weak point of cast iron and steel baths is always the enamel layer. In the case of even a small chip, a corrosion center is formed. With acrylics, there is no such danger.
  • Acrylic bathtubs are dirt-repellent. This prevents the formation of a favorable environment in the pores of the material for the development of microflora, which is especially important in conditions of constant humidity and high temperatures.
  • In continuation of the previous point - the surface of the acrylic bathtub is easily cleaned of dirty deposits (unless, of course, it is not running at all) .
  • The lightness of the products greatly simplifies both transportation and installation.
  • Finally, the manufacturing technology of such bathtubs makes it possible to produce products of various designs - in shape, size, color, equipment. That is, the offered choice of models is incomparably wider than steel or cast iron.

But limitations there are also, moreover - very significant:

  • The material is not resistant to high temperatures. It is clear that the critical limit of 160 ℃, causing acrylic to melt, in a bathroom is impossible even theoretically, but even very hot water in combination with mechanical stress sometimes leads to the formation of deformations. Especially if the bath is from the category of inexpensive, thin-walled.
  • The strength properties of many acrylic products cannot be called outstanding. Often, you can clearly feel the bending of the bottom of the bath under your feet, which already causes some psychological discomfort. In addition, along with such plasticity, brittleness is also noted - the instability of the walls to accentuated mechanical loads - impacts. This often ends with the formation of a crack.
  • Acrylic still remains quite sensitive to household chemicals. That is, it is unacceptable to recklessly use any detergents and cleaning agents, since you can hopelessly ruin the bath.

The disadvantages include the rather high cost of acrylic bathtubs. And also the fact that the market is flooded with low-quality, handicraft products, which, however, are difficult to distinguish with the “naked eye” from those deserving attention. But such a bath will definitely not serve for a long time.

Basic rules for the care of acrylic surfaces

Owners who are familiar with caring for them will confirm that keeping them in proper condition is quite simple, although this will take some time. It is enough after each use of water procedures to wipe the inner surface of the bath with a soft cloth soaked in warm water, and then it is advisable to wipe it dry. At the same time, the optimal solution can be considered to reduce to the possible minimum the use of chemicals for cleaning acrylic. The difficulty of keeping accessories made of this material lies only in the fact that sometimes there is not enough time and effort to carry out daily cleaning.

  • It has already been noted that acrylic surfaces are not sufficiently resistant to mechanical stress. And, by the way, most often scratches on the bathtubs appear precisely in the process of cleaning them. Therefore, sponges with an abrasive surface should be categorically excluded from the use. Only use soft sponges or cloths for cleaning.
  • Modern models of acrylic bathtubs are more durable than those that appeared at the dawn of the spread of this technology. However, some care should be taken when using them. Chips on acrylic can appear as a result of various metal or sharp objects, glass, porcelain or earthenware falling into the bathtub, so you cannot store this on the shelves above the bathtub.

  • You should be aware that there are two types of acrylic products made using different technologies - cast and reinforced bathtubs. Their surface is cared for in the same way, but they differ in mechanical resistance.

Reinforced products consist of several layers, the middle of which is fiberglass with the addition of epoxy resins. Reinforcement makes the container more durable, but at the same time increases the risk of chips. If heavy objects fall on such a surface, part of the outer acrylic layer may peel off and break off.

Cast containers are more susceptible to damage in the form of scratches. But sometimes, especially with improper installation of the frame under the bath, it can simply crack.

  • It is not recommended to soak laundry in an acrylic container. The fact is that prolonged exposure to this material of an aqueous solution of powder, as well as dirt separating from the fabric, negatively affects the surface of the material. The bath will quickly lose its whiteness and smoothness of the walls.

  • If it is fashionable to clean the plumbing with most of the usual detergents, then special compositions should be chosen for acrylic. In the same case, when it is not possible to purchase them constantly, you can use home remedies with a mild cleaning effect. When choosing a ready-made composition for washing an acrylic surface, you should carefully study its packaging, which indicates the ingredients, as well as its purpose.
  • If it is decided to use ready-made chemical compositions for cleaning the bath, it should be remembered that they should be used, they are recommended no more than once every 10-14 days. Otherwise, the surface will lose its smoothness and whiteness. In the interval between "general" cleanings, only a damp sponge or cloth should be used.
  • It is impossible to use conventional powder, liquid or pasty detergents with abrasive inclusions to wash polymer plumbing. They are able not only to leave scratches on the surface, but also to make it completely matte. And this will lead to the fact that dirt particles will be retained on the walls of the bath. Getting rid of such an ingrained plaque is already much more difficult.
  • It is unacceptable to clean baths made of acrylic with products containing oxalic acid, alcohol-containing solvents, and acetone. These substances are capable of not only destroying the gloss, but also deforming the polymer product. Chlorine cleaners can also damage the surface of the material.
  • Do not bathe pets in acrylic baths or those covered with an acrylic layer, as they can scratch the surface of various depths with their claws. If it is necessary to carry out such measures, the bottom, as well as the walls of the container, should be secured by covering them, for example, with old towels.
  • Do not clean dishes in the bath, as well as objects made of any material that have sharp corners that can damage the surface.
  • The bath will lose its original aesthetic appearance if it is filled with boiling water or water heated to a temperature exceeding 65 degrees. Under the influence of high temperature, acrylic will not only lose its smoothness, but may also deform.
  • It is unacceptable to clean the inner surface with hard brushes.

All of the above precautions are essential to keep the bathtub in its original white and smooth condition. Therefore, when purchasing an acrylic product or producing, it is necessary to take into account all the indicated points.

What compounds can be used for acrylic sanitary ware?

You should tell in more detail about ready-made detergents suitable for cleaning polymer baths - what you need to pay attention to when choosing them.

  • The packaging of specialized compounds must indicate that they are safe for plumbing accessories made of acrylic.
  • In addition to specially designed compounds for cleaning acrylic surfaces, some universal solutions are also suitable, but they should not contain aggressive ingredients such as certain types of acids, acetone, alcohol and ammonia.

The disadvantage of ready-made detergents for acrylic products is their high price, as well as the fact that their use must be strictly metered. It should be noted that domestic detergent solutions have a more affordable price, although they often have a completely similar effect to imported formulations.

Ready-made patented acrylic care products

The advantage of ready-made cleaning agents with a chemical basis is that they not only get rid of acrylic from dirt, limescale, rust and yellowness, but also create a protective, visually invisible film on its surface.

So, among all the existing compositions for cleaning acrylic, the following compositions can be distinguished, which have earned positive feedback from users:

IllustrationName and brief characteristics of the detergent
"Acrylane" - this composition is a cleaning foam designed to remove such contaminants as limescale, soap streaks and rust.
It easily removes all types of stains. After washing off the foam, a protective film remains on the surface of the acrylic, which prevents the accumulation of dirt in the pores of the material.
For the composition to be effective, it must be used in accordance with the instructions supplied by the manufacturer. It is very important not to leave the foam on the surface until it is completely dry. In addition, it is unacceptable to mix "Acrylan" with other detergents.
"DEC" - this product is produced in the form of a cream and is intended for cleaning not only acrylic sanitary ware, but also tiles, chrome and other surfaces.
The composition includes antiseptic additives that prevent the growth of harmful bacteria and fungal formations in hard-to-reach places of plumbing accessories.
Along the way, when flushing, the product perfectly cleans the sewer system. It has a beneficial effect on the metal parts of whirlpool bathtubs.
"Triton" is a fairly popular cleaning agent for acrylic bathtubs, which can be sold as a concentrate or as a ready-to-use solution.
The concentrate is sold in large-capacity containers and is intended for the active fight against serious pollution and for large-scale sanitization from the spread of bacteria.
The solution is usually packaged in a container with a spray bottle, used to remove limescale and greasy stains, as well as disinfect the bath.
"Mister Chister" is used not only for tidying up acrylic bathtubs, but also for metal plumbing accessories.
The tool perfectly copes with rust, limescale, grease and soap stains, while gently acting on the surface and not causing mechanical damage to them.
The composition of "Chistera" includes a polymer additive, which creates a film on the surfaces that prevents the formation of dirt deposits. Antiseptic additives protect baths or sinks from bacteria and fungal colonies.
The product works quickly, so you don't have to wait a long time for its effect on the material to be cleaned.
"Cif" - this product, familiar to all Russians, has several lines, some of which are also suitable for cleaning acrylic accessories.
"Cif" is produced in the form of a cream and a spray, which are used mainly for preventive measures. Thanks to this composition, acrylic more effectively resists adhesion and penetration of mud deposits into the pores of the material.
However, Cif cannot cope with heavy dirt, lime deposits and mold.
Meine Liebe is available as a spray. Shows high efficiency in the fight against rust stains, mold and limescale, and also removes unpleasant odors.
The product has a fruity aroma, and it contains citric acid, which is the main active ingredient.
Meine Liebe creates a protective film on the surfaces, thanks to which the bath will stay clean for much longer.
The spray is quite economical, so one bottle lasts for a long time, and is also environmentally friendly, since it does not contain toxic ingredients.
"UNICUM" is produced in the form of a spray intended for cleaning acrylic from mold, lime and rust.
Due to the form of release, the product can be applied to individual, most contaminated areas of the bath. After 15 ÷ 20 seconds, the spray is rubbed in with a soft cloth, and then washed off with warm water, along with which dirt is removed.
"UNICUM" takes good care of the materials to be cleaned, while producing high-quality cleaning with low consumption of detergent. After washing off the cleaning agent, a protective film remains on the acrylic.
"Sanfor Acrilight" - this composition is intended for major cleaning, disinfection, as well as renovation of acrylic bathtubs and shower trays. In addition, it effectively cleans jacuzzi systems.
With the help of "Acrylite" even the most old dirt, limestone and soap deposits are removed.
At the same time, the composition works effectively, creating a protective film on the surfaces, extending the service life of accessories, facilitating their care, as well as giving gloss for a long time.
Cinderella is an effective cleaner for acrylic products, which can be an ideal option for those who have not yet decided which formulation to choose.
It copes well with all the dirt that occurs on acrylic. However, "Cinderella" has one significant drawback - it is a pungent smell that appears during cleaning. Therefore, it is recommended to put on protective gloves for work, and protect the respiratory tract with a mask.
The applied product is left on for seven to ten minutes, and then washed off with warm running water, after which the surface is wiped with a soft cloth.

It should never be forgotten that chemicals can become both a reliable assistant in removing dirt and a "pest" that will permanently ruin the acrylic surface. Therefore, they should be applied no more than once or twice a month. For more frequent cleaning of acrylic products, use less aggressive compounds.

If one of the chemicals is chosen for cleaning the bath, then before applying it to the entire area of the container, it is recommended to use it on a small, not too noticeable area of the surface. If acrylic does not show a negative reaction, then you can proceed to "full-scale events."

Handy available acrylic cleaners

Not so aggressive substances that can be found in any kitchen or home medicine cabinet. They have a softer effect on acrylics, and at the same time they cope quite well with most stains.

These include citric acid, baking soda, vinegar, laundry soap, hydrogen peroxide, potassium permanganate. They can be applied once or twice a week without affecting the material.

  • Citric acid must be dissolved in warm water, after which the solution is applied to the contaminated areas of the bath. To make this composition, you will need 250 ml of water and 100 grams of crystalline acid.
  • Baking soda (2 ÷ 3 tablespoons) must be poured with 500 ml of hot water, which will extinguish and dissolve it. After the reaction is over, 500 ml of cold water must be added to the solution. The warm composition is applied to the walls and bottom of the bath for 10-15 minutes. After that, the container is rinsed with warm water.
  • Laundry soap (15 g) must be grated on a coarse grater, pour 500 ml of hot water and, stirring, achieve complete dissolution. Then one tablespoon of baking soda is added to the soapy solution. The resulting mixture is applied to the walls of the bath and left for about half an hour. After that, rinse off with warm water, while wiping with a clean napkin.

If we talk about contamination of a certain nature, then the following recipes are used to remove them:

  • A not too thick layer of limescale can be removed with citric acid or concentrated lemon juice. For this, the bath must be filled with hot water, the temperature of which should not exceed 60 degrees. Then 100 ÷ 150 g of citric acid is poured there and mixed well. You can preliminarily make a saturated solution from the acid, which will dissipate faster in a large volume of the bath. The water is drained into the sewer two to three hours after the bath is filled, after which it must be rinsed with warm running water.

  • If the limescale has overshadowed a rather thick layer, then you can try to deal with it by treating it with soda, and then with vinegar. To do this, a soda solution is applied to the surface (1000 ml of water and 100 g of soda), on top of it is an vinegar composition (water and 9% vinegar, taken in a 1: 1 ratio). A reaction should occur between soda and vinegar, which lasts about 5 ÷ 7 minutes. Upon completion, the surfaces are rinsed with water. Repeat this cleaning process if necessary.
  • Yellow spots and rust not embedded in the pores of the polymer must be treated with soda or hydrogen peroxide. The compositions are applied and left for 15-20 minutes, and then washed off with warm water.
  • Minor stains that appear mostly on the sealant around the perimeter of the tub can be removed with hydrogen peroxide.
  • Rust most often appears on the surface of bathtubs due to a leaking water tap. If the stain has eaten in, and none of the ready-made or improvised compositions is already acting on it, then it should be carefully wiped with fine-grained sandpaper. After that, the cleaned area must be treated with a special compound - acrylic polish. You must act very carefully, otherwise you can only worsen the situation.

As mentioned above, in order to avoid lengthy procedures for cleaning complex stubborn stains and streaks, it is advisable to make at least a light wash of the bath after each use of water procedures. This process will not take much time, since it consists of very simple manipulations:

  • The sponge is lathered with any soap, and to speed up the procedure, it is better to use liquid types of soap.
  • Then all surfaces of the bath are rubbed with this sponge.
  • After that, the container is rinsed abundantly with warm water.
  • The final obligatory action is to wipe the bathtub dry with a well-absorbent cloth.

Such actions will prevent the appearance of stains and plaque, and, most likely, completely eliminate the need for the use of chemical detergents. Thanks to this, the bath will last much longer without losing its original fresh appearance.

Features of bathtub care with hydromassage

Daily cleaning of a bathtub equipped with a hydromassage is carried out in almost the same way as a regular acrylic container. Nevertheless, with a certain regularity (once a week or a month, depending on the frequency of using the bath), it is necessary to carry out a more extended cleaning, including several specific operations.

  • The bath is filled with warm water so that it covers all the hydromassage jets.
  • Then concentrated lemon juice (100 g) or a citric acid solution made from 100 g of crystals dissolved in 200 ml of warm water is poured into the water.
  • The bath is left with water for 2 ÷ 3 hours, after which the water is drained.
  • The rest of the solution is collected from the bottom of the bath with a sponge, and the walls are wiped with it again.
  • Next, take cotton swabs - they will be required to clean the holes of the nozzles of the hydromassage system. The stick is moistened with hydrogen peroxide and penetrates it, as far as possible, into the holes, thus clearing them from limescale.
  • The final step is rinsing the entire bathtub with warm water and wiping it dry with a soft cloth.

This process will not only clean the acrylic surfaces, keep both walls and metal parts fresh, but will also help ensure long-term efficient operation of the whirl system.

In order to prevent contamination of the whirlpool tubing, it is recommended to take preventive measures, consisting of the following actions:

  • Before taking a bath, it is filled with water, and the hydromassage system is turned on for 5-7 minutes, even if it was not planned to use it. Likewise, it is possible to prevent stagnation of water in the internal channels, which often results in lime deposits.
  • A more intensive cleaning procedure should be performed once a month. For this, the bath is filled with water, to which a special cleaning agent is added, and in this switched on state it is left for 10 ÷ 20 minutes. After that, the water is drained, the bath is rinsed and wiped dry.

How to get rid of minor scratches and other damage?

Even with the most careful use of acrylic sanitary ware, it is often impossible to avoid scratches on their surface. In such damage, lime and rusty deposits can collect, which immediately visually distinguish these areas against the general background. To get rid of scratches, you can apply one of the existing methods for removing them.

  • Shallow scratches can be removed in the same way as single rust spots by sanding the surface with fine-grained (P240 ÷ P280) emery paper. Then the leveled area is sanded with a polish specially designed for acrylic.

  • Sometimes it is quite enough to apply only polish to scratches, without using preliminary abrasive action. The polishing paste is applied and rubbed into the surface intensively with a piece of felt in a circular motion. The process continues until the scratches and the applied composition are maximally smoothed.

  • If deep damage occurs, a repair kit for acrylic plumbing accessories can help. It is recommended to purchase it together with the bathroom in order to immediately select the closest shade of color - later it will be much more difficult to do this. The kit contains an acrylic paste that hardens when applied to the bathtub surface. The paste is filled in the scratches and rubbed in in a circular motion with felt until smooth.

  • Paste acrylic can even repair through holes in the cast model of the bath, which can also form for one reason or another. To complete this procedure, you must first clean the area to be repaired. Further, on the outside of the bath, several layers of high-quality waterproof adhesive tape are glued, which will become a barrier for the paste. The resulting hole is then filled with liquid acrylic and leveled with a plastic spatula. After that, the patch must be left until the paste hardens for two to three hours. Next, the acrylic is sanded with fine-grained sandpaper and polished with a piece of felt.
  • The method of filling with acrylic can also be used in the case when it is necessary to remove deeply ingrained stains, after the elimination of which, depressions remain on the surfaces.
  • Another option for filling through holes in the bath involves the use of polymer putty. They fill the hole formed with it and wait for it to dry completely. After that, acrylic paste is applied on top of the putty and leveled with a spatula. The dried paste is processed with fine-grained emery, then, if necessary, painted, and the final action is the final polishing of the area to a perfectly smooth state.

It is quite obvious that, if desired, the owners are able not only to carry out routine cleaning, but also to restore damaged areas of acrylic bathtubs without resorting to the help of a master.

Prices for popular acrylic bathtubs

In conclusion of the publication, summing up all of the above, you can repeat a little, highlighting the key points that are important to consider when caring for acrylic plumbing fixtures:

  • In order not to engage in the very time-consuming, time-consuming work of cleaning a heavily soiled bathtub, it is recommended to wash it regularly, after each use of water procedures.
  • It is necessary to monitor the health of the water taps and the shower - there should not even be any signs of water leaks anywhere. All faucets should be closed tightly after each use. This avoids the appearance of stubborn yellow rust stains on the surface of the bowl.
  • It is recommended to rinse the bathtub with hot water, which will give the acrylic a shine.
  • Before choosing and using a new detergent, you should carefully study its composition and method of application. It is better to test it on an inconspicuous small area of the surface.
  • It is necessary to protect acrylic surfaces from mechanical stress, from contact with sharp objects, as well as from animal claws.
  • Do not place a stool on the bottom of the bathtub, using it, for example, as a support for a basin during hand wash. The pinpoint pressure of its feet will inevitably damage the acrylic surface.
  • In case of contact with the surface of dyes, they should be removed immediately, not allowing them to be absorbed into the pores of the polymer. Stubborn stains will be difficult to remove.
  • It is recommended to keep the bath dry, so it is advisable to wipe it with a soft, absorbent cloth every time after use and cleaning.

What is a bath like?

An acrylic bathtub, in addition to its original outlines, has its own, which must be taken into account during its operation and maintenance.

So, you should immediately make sure which product you have to live with side by side - with a construction of cast acrylic with a thickness of 5 mm or more, or with 1 or 3-layer plastic variation, covered with a 2-3 mm layer of acrylic.

The refined taste of the hostess of the room will be emphasized by the original bowl from a well-known manufacturer. A significant disadvantage is the rather high cost of fashion items

If we are talking about the first option, then there will be no doubts about the impeccable quality of the product. This will be confirmed by the manufacturer by providing a 10-25 year warranty on acrylics.

In the second case, you have to make friends with a thin coating, which will last for 3-5 years, and maybe for all 10. It depends on the features of use and the promises of the company that made the bath.

We will not consider the option with a parody of an acrylic product with a top layer of 0.5 mm - a bad fake cannot be called an acrylic bath. The coating will wear off after 6-8 months of use.

In addition to the thickness of the acrylic layer, size and function also affect the difficulty of care - the larger the bowl and the more pleasures it has to offer, the more difficult it is to clean.

As for additional functions, there are a lot of acrylic, backlighting, sound effects and other interesting devices on sale.

What is the acrylic surface afraid of?

It is important to carefully read the manufacturer's recommendations after buying a bath. The fact is that many companies give a guarantee for acrylic coating and all kinds of equipment only if certain rules are observed.

So, sometimes the instructions indicate that the warranty begins to operate only after the product is installed by the responsible employee of the company from which it was purchased. It turns out that if you install it yourself, you can lose your 10-year warranty.

When buying an expensive model, you should not save on installation - the manufacturer, as a rule, guarantees at least 25 years of trouble-free acrylic coating service

Another feature that you should definitely pay attention to before using the bath is the manufacturer's recommendations for its operation. It is this section that must be carefully studied in order not to lose the product and the warranty to fix the problem at the expense of the seller in the future.

A polymer bathing tank is significantly different from its steel and cast-iron counterparts - it requires a more careful attitude towards itself. Especially if the acrylic layer is very thin.

The acrylic thicket is afraid of fire, hot water, aggressive chemicals, prickly and sharp things and other troubles. To extend its life, you need to carefully monitor your actions in relation to the acrylic bath.
