How to measure blinds. How to measure vertical blinds

Roller blinds, which are also called fabric roller blinds, are a modern trend in window design. Products are an alternative to traditional curtains and drapes. Laconic window decor looks advantageous in modern interiors that gravitate towards minimalism. In this article, you will learn how to properly measure a window before buying a roller blind, depending on the intended installation location.

Method one

This option is suitable if installation is planned on a window frame:

  • First of all, it is necessary to measure the window opening in length and width.
  • Subtract 2 cm from the smallest width. Leave the height as it is.
  • Please note that the roller blind does not go over the window handle.

Method two

This manual is intended for those who plan to mount fabric roller shutters on the wall. They can be installed above the window opening or inside it. Before carrying out work, it is necessary to check whether the blades can move freely. They should not interfere with window fittings, elements of engineering communications. To take measurements, follow our instructions in the figure.

Method three

Installation of lifting curtains is made on a window frame. The distance between the opposite edges of the junction of the frame and glass is measured. A system of rack guides for the movement of the canvas will be installed here. When taking measurements, follow the instructions in the figure.

Varieties of roller blinds

In the traditional version, roller blinds are a polyester-based woven fabric. The fabric may contain linen or cotton fibers. Thanks to special impregnation, the canvas acquires the necessary rigidity and dust-repellent properties. At the bottom of the structure is a weighting bar that prevents deformation.

When lifting the curtain, the fabric is wound on a special shaft. The web guide mechanism can be one of three types:

  • spring;
  • chain;
  • electromechanical.

Roller blinds differ in size, installation method, cost and other criteria. You can choose an option for a window of any size. We offer to consider the main types of roller blinds and their properties.

Standard Models

These systems are equipped with a shaft with a diameter of 25-30 millimeters. The width of the product is within 1.8 meters, the height is not more than two meters. Fasteners and fittings are available in white, black, bronze, silver and clear. Standard roller blinds are installed on double-leaf windows of a standard configuration. The product can be installed in a window opening or attached to a wall.

Lux Models

The difference between these products and the standard ones is the increased length and width. This group includes roller blinds with a shaft diameter of 35-70 millimeters. The maximum width of the product is 3.5 meters, the height is up to 4.5 meters. Window openings of this size are rare in residential buildings. They can be seen in modern office and industrial premises.

Uni Systems

Such curtains are called minicassette. They are installed on PVC, wood or aluminum window sashes. Minicassette roller blinds have the smallest shaft. Its diameter is only 15 mm. The shaft with wound fabric is hidden in a cassette - a semicircular aluminum box. Thanks to this design feature, the canvas is protected from dust and looks neat.

Uni roll systems are a great solution for the home. After installation of the structure, the tilt-and-turn sashes can be opened without removing the curtain. The window sill remains free, its space can be used as an additional work surface.

Mini roller blinds

Mini systems are similar to Uni. Products are also mounted on window sashes using self-tapping screws or special brackets. The bracket is mounted to the end of the sash without drilling. This option is suitable for tilt-and-turn windows. If the sash is deaf, self-tapping screws are used for fastening.

Roller blinds "Mini" are called open. They do not include a roll cassette and guides. The advantage of Mini systems is their low price compared to their cassette counterparts.

Roller blinds for skylights

For the design of windows on the attic floors, specially designed roller blinds are used. By type of design, they are similar to minicassette. The roll is hidden in a special box, and guides are installed on both sides of the frame. They prevent the canvas from sagging. The curtain is controlled by a spring mechanism.

Double-layer roller blinds "day-night"

Such models are known in the market under the name "Zebra". Unlike all other options, the product consists of a two-layer fabric. It alternates stripes of different transparency. Thanks to this, you can adjust the degree of darkening of the room by shifting the stripes relative to each other.

Day-night roller blinds can have an open design or be equipped with a box cassette. "Zebra" is attached to the frame with double-sided adhesive tape, the window sill remains open, and you can save money on buying a cornice!

Curtains look original and allow you to adjust the degree of illumination using a conventional chain. The canvas moves smoothly and silently. Due to antistatic impregnation, dust does not accumulate on the surface. Wiping with a sponge is enough to remove dirt.

Roller blinds are a modern and quite attractive way to decorate a window. Products combine the simplicity and convenience of blinds, as well as the aesthetics of ordinary curtains and curtains. The variety of materials produced in Holland, Belgium, Poland, Germany, Turkey makes it possible to satisfy any design whim regarding the texture, color and density of the material. However, not everyone knows how to properly measure the roll of curtains on plastic windows.

Peculiarities

Roller blinds easily control the amount of light in your home. They can completely darken a room or gently diffuse the light. The main advantages of the products:

  • protection from the sun, noise and prying eyes;
  • compact design - space saving;
  • simplicity and ease of management;
  • great opportunities for design;
  • durability - do not wear out over time and do not lose their aesthetic appearance;
  • do not attract dust, do not fade in the sun;
  • fabrics and mechanisms do not contain harmful substances;
  • reasonable price - depends on the size of the window, fabric and system.

Main types

Products do not require special care, but a careful attitude to them is desirable. In appearance, curtains of open and closed types are distinguished.

Open products

They consist of fabric and shaft. An open shaft with brackets is usually attached to the top of the window (sash). Types of fastening depend on the size and area of the window; brackets of larger and smaller sizes are used.

Small brackets (mini system) are usually installed on the window sash, large ones - on the frame or window opening. The fabric is wound on the shaft. Open-type roller blinds are controlled by a chain mechanism. A decorative bar is installed at the bottom of the fabric, thanks to which the fabric does not sag, it is evenly wound.

To fix the product (especially when opening a window) can be used magnetic fixation. With magnetic fixation, an open-type product is fixed using magnets and metal plates (in several places). Fixation on the fishing line occurs along the entire height of the curtain, so it is more expedient and effective than magnetic fixation.

Closed products

Closed-type roller blinds consist of a fabric and a shaft, but the shaft is placed in a plastic or aluminum box, and guide bars are placed along the edges of the fabric, which perform the function of fixing the fabric. Closed-type products are very well suited when the use of tulle and curtains is not planned - for example, when decorating a balcony or loggia. Due to the refinement of the aluminum box, the effect of completeness of the window design is achieved.

Guides for products of the closed type exclude the possibility of light penetration between the glass and the fabric, thanks to which it is possible to achieve complete darkening of the room. Products of a closed type can have flat and U-shaped guides.

To add even more sophistication, closed-type products can be completed with decorative chains in different colors.

Window measurement

In order for roller blinds to have an aesthetic appearance and high practicality, you need to understand how to measure correctly. Roller blinds are divided into several types, and each has its own characteristics of taking measurements.

Classic variant

In order to correctly measure the curtains that will later be used for plastic windows, you first need to find out exactly where the roller blinds will be mounted. They can be attached to the window frame itself or on the window opening.

What measures need to be taken:

  1. Curtain width - "B". The minimum width is 50 cm, the maximum width is 300 cm.
  2. Height - "H". The minimum curtain height is 50 cm, the maximum height is 300 cm.
  3. The length of the roller blinds is marked "L". The minimum length is 27 cm and to infinity.

Each type of roller blinds has its own allowable sizes. They directly depend on the type of material from which they are made. The control length cannot be less than 2/3 of the finished product.

Fastening directly to the window opening:

  1. "H" goes depending on the length of the protruding parts of the window sill. If the window sill is flush, then the dimensions are at your discretion.
  2. If the installation is carried out on a wall, the boundaries must be respected. The distance between the roller blind and the ceiling must be at least 7 cm, it must be carefully measured.

Cassette

Roller blinds of cassette type Uni-1 are measured as follows:

  • "B" is measured along the width of the double-glazed window, along the vertical of the window. The measurement is taken very accurately.
  • "H" measurements are carried out in the same way as "B", only horizontally. From which side the control will be located is determined individually - at the request of the customer.
  • The level "H" depends on the calculations and is 2/3 of the length of the product.

Uni 2 must be measured very carefully. When measuring, the location of the fittings on the plastic window is of great importance:

  • “B” equals the width of the double-glazed window + 6.8 cm. We must not forget that the width of the product is 2 cm less, that is, a minimum of 25 cm and a maximum of 120 cm.
  • "H" equals the distance from the top of the top plug to the bottom of the bottom plug of the guiding system. The minimum is 20 cm and the maximum is 150 cm.

Determining the dimensions of the roller blind by type Mini:

  1. Mounting is carried out on the window frame. To do this, measurements are made "B" (directly to the double-glazed window), then you need to add the width of the glazing bead, it is approximately 0.4 cm. The remaining dimensions are calculated in the same way. Then you should choose a convenient side to control the curtain mechanism. The approximate length of the lace is 2/3 from "H".
  2. In the event that a metal-plastic window is opened for ventilation, fixing chips for curtains are attached to its lower part. Clamps are needed so that during ventilation, the roller blind or blinds do not sweep away everything on the windowsill.

The following fastener options are available:

  • magnetic clamps;
  • fishing line.

There are several ways to attach a curtain rod:

  • with screws;
  • on a special double-sided tape;
  • hanging structure.

Roman

To begin with, it is worth deciding where exactly this curtain will be located. Such a curtain can also be installed on a metal-plastic window or on the window opening itself. You need to be very careful when taking measurements during internal installation.

To determine the dimensions of the Roman model, you need to take measurements "H" and "B". Using the measurements taken, carry out the necessary calculations:

  • add 15 cm to "B";
  • add 20 cm to "H";
  • at the end of the installation, "B" and "H" are less than about 0.8 cm.

"Day Night"

This type of curtains can also be installed on a metal-plastic frame or on a window opening. When it comes to curtains "Day-Night", you need to calculate the following: to "B" we add 1.5 cm, to "H" - 15 cm.

If the curtain is attached directly to the metal-plastic frame, measurements are taken in three places "B" and three places "H". For the height of the opening, we take the smallest indicators. If there are corner slopes, measurements are taken from the place where the curtain will hang in the future. "B" is equal to "B" of the window opening minus 5 mm. "H" equals "H" of the window opening.

For allowances for the frame, measurements of the height of the glazing bead and the width of the window frame are used. The distance between the curtain and the handle on the window should be approximately 1 cm, you can mark it on the fabric. Measure as carefully as possible.

Subtleties in calculations

It is most practical to arrange the control system in such a way that the cord does not collide with the window handle during operation. The length of the lace of the mechanism is set at the request of the customer.

It is very important to take measurements of the window correctly when choosing roller blinds., especially if they are fastened with self-tapping screws. Products are completed with a box for the upper part and guide elements - at the request of the buyer. If the curtain box is decorative, it is fastened with special fasteners. It is not at all difficult to measure roller blinds on plastic windows. You need to follow the advice of experts, and you will do all the calculations as quickly as possible.

The main thing is maximum care, you need to measure very carefully. In this case, the result will not disappoint you - the curtains will fit the window opening just perfectly.

Increasingly, the interior of a modern apartment is decorated with stylish blinds. They are more practical and convenient to use than the curtains familiar to all of us. When ordering this product, it is very important to know the exact dimensions of the window in order to make a design of the right size. Many companies provide measurer services for free if you place an order with them. But for those who want to buy a finished product or do not want to pay for the services of a professional measuring, you can complete this task yourself. And so, how to measure the blinds correctly?

In order for the readings taken to be as accurate as possible, several specific rules were identified that can help every novice master:

  • It is recommended to measure the blinds with a steel tape measure. It is she who will show the most accurate indicators;
  • You cannot round the result. The resulting figure must be written down to the nearest millimeter.
  • The result is recorded in a certain sequence: 1 - width, 2 - length. This sequence is important when ordering, and this is the most common mistake.
  • In order for the blinds to fit perfectly, measurements must be taken at different levels for each parameter. Very often, the windows are uneven, and without taking into account this feature, the finished product may rise and fall poorly.

Mounting methods

It is important to consider that the measurement method will differ depending on some details. To begin with, this is the type of blinds themselves, but the method of fastening the structure also plays an important role. Mounting method can be:

  • On the wall - when they are attached to the ceiling or to the wall;
  • In the opening - if the product is equal in size to the size of the opening;
  • On the sash - the structure is installed directly on the frame.

It is important to remember that in the first two cases it does not matter where the control mechanism is located, on the right or on the left. In the case of mounting on the sash, it must be placed so that the structure does not interfere with the opening of the sash.

Measuring windows for different types of blinds

Blinds are different, and depending on their type, the measurement method may also change. There are three main types of construction:

  1. Horizontal;
  2. vertical;
  3. Roll.

Now you need to figure out how to measure the blinds for installation on plastic windows, starting from their type.

Horizontal blinds

This type of construction is the most common. They were the first to appear on the market, and are still successfully sold. Horizontal structures are practical to use, easy to care for, and they look very harmonious in the interior.

For installation "on the sash"

For this method, it is necessary to take measurements from bead to bead on both sides of the light opening. In order not to leave a gap from the sides, 30-40 mm must be added to the result. To find out the required height, you need to measure the height of the sash itself.

Measurement "in the opening"

Window openings are often uneven, so each indicator must be measured in several places (on the sides and in the center). Of the results obtained, the largest is considered correct.

The width of the blinds is determined as follows: we measure the width of the glass in the light opening, and add the size of the seal to the resulting figure. The length is measured in a similar way: we measure the length of the glass, add the size of the seal and 1 more spare cm.

In addition, it is worth noting that the cornice of the product is 72 mm larger, so it will protrude from both sides by 36 mm. You need to calculate the size so that this cornice does not rest against walls or hinges. It is also very important to consider that the design should not interfere with the opening of the sash.

The chain of the lifting mechanism is located, as a rule, on the side of the hinges, and its size is 2/3 of the length of the window.

For fastening "on the opening"

If you decide to mount the product to the wall, then the dimensions of the blinds themselves should be larger than the dimensions of the window opening. The width of the opening is 10 cm less than the finished product, and the buyer chooses their height depending on their preferences. But it is important to consider that the size must exceed the length of the opening by 5 cm.

Vertical blinds

This type of blinds is considered to be more elegant and sophisticated than horizontal blinds. But they can be fixed in only two ways: “on the wall” or “on the opening”. When choosing an installation option, it is important to take into account the shape and size of the window, but the design preferences of the residents of the house are no less important.

Installation "on the opening"

Installing a vertical structure in this way will help hide many window flaws: radiators, slanting frames, etc. In addition, this product can be an excellent addition to the interior. It is very important to take into account the protrusion of the window sill, if it is more than 6 cm, then it is worth slightly lengthening the bracket.

Measuring "on the opening" means mounting the structure on a wall or ceiling. In both cases, it is necessary to measure the width and height of the window. To the result of the width, you need to add 20 cm (the product will protrude beyond the window by 10 cm on both sides). With the height of the product, everything is a little more complicated. To install on a wall, you must add at least 10 cm to this indicator. And if the product will be attached to the ceiling, you need to measure the distance from the window to the ceiling, and add the result to the height.

For installation "in the opening"

This installation option saves usable space in the room. In addition, the measurement “in the opening” is relevant if there is any furniture near the window. But it is very important that the window is even, and the distance between the frames is the same at all levels. Many people prefer this option also because it is cheaper.

Getting the desired result is very simple, we measure the height and width of the window. We subtract 1 cm from the obtained width indicator, and 2-3 from the height.

Roller blinds

Roller blinds, or otherwise Roman blinds, are the most in demand today. They are very practical and easy to use, and most importantly, they practically do not take up space, and are ideal for rooms with a small area. Roman blinds do a good job of their direct purpose: with their help it is very convenient to adjust the lighting in the room. If necessary, create twilight by rolling the product to the middle, completely darken the room, or vice versa, open the window and enjoy natural light.

This variety is installed in two ways: "in the window opening" or "overlapping". Another relatively new system is day-night. For each installation method, 0.5 cm must be added to each indicator.

Installation "in the opening"

Important for this setup. In order for the window to be even, otherwise you need to choose another option. Taking measurements is very simple: as usual, we measure the height of the opening and the width. It is these indicators that are important for the manufacturer.

Measurement "overlap"

Measure the width and height of the window. We add 10 cm to the result of the width, add 20 cm to the height.

Roman blinds "Day-night"

In this case, the width of the window must be measured from bead to bead, along their outer edge. The height of the product will be equal to the height of the window along the frame. The result obtained is the necessary indicators.

Technical blinds

To begin with, it is important to decide what technical blinds are in general. This product is designed for ventilation installation. It looks quite nice, and is not striking. During measurement, it is worth remembering that the grill must completely cover the ventilation hole.

As a rule, the dimensions of air ducts in all rooms are made standard. For industrial facilities, this is 150 * 490, for residential premises (installed in the kitchen or in the bathroom), this figure is equal to the width of 100-150, and the height of 150-200.

Finally

Blinds will be a great addition to every home, but first you need to order them, and accordingly take the necessary measurements. Of course, to get the most correct result, you still need to contact a professional. Moreover, their services are not expensive at all. But if you are completely confident in your abilities, just arm yourself with a tape measure and do it!

Measuring a window for installing vertical blinds is easy!

Installation in a window opening

If you want vertical blinds installed inside window opening, it is necessary to measure the full width and height of the opening (from wall to wall), as shown in the diagram below. The measurement must be carried out at least three times in each direction and the smallest values should be chosen.

  • for measurement accuracy, ;
  • measure in 3 places, both "Width" and "Height", and then choose the smallest of the values. Be careful and always double-check yourself!
  • in order for vertical blinds to be installed in the window opening, it is necessary "Height" and "Width" decrease by 2 cm.
  • such as window handles. Check if the blinds will not be an obstacle when opening the window for ventilation or when fully opened.

Wall or ceiling mounting above a window

If you want vertical blinds to be installed outside the window opening, you must measure the width and height of the opening, taking into account allowances, as shown in the diagram below. The measurement must be carried out at least three times in each direction and the largest values should be selected.

  • for measurement accuracy, use steel tape measure;
  • measure in 3 places, both "Width" and "Height", and then select the largest of the values. Be careful and always double-check yourself!
  • To order vertical blinds, it is necessary that the measurement points at the top be at least 10 cm above the window opening. The measurement points along the edges should be no closer than 8 cm to the edge of the opening. The measurement points below can be 2 cm above the window sill, battery or other obstacle.
  • pay attention to obstacles such as window handles, radiators, screens, heating pipes. Check if the blinds will be an obstacle when opening the window for ventilation.

Please note that when ordering vertical blinds, as "Width" and "Height", you indicate the overall dimensions of the product!

Ordering slats (fabric) for replacement

If you want to replace fabric in blinds, it is necessary to measure the length of one lamella and the number of lamellas on the eaves.

  • for measurement accuracy, use steel tape measure;
  • make sure all slats are the same length. Be careful and always double-check yourself!
  • To order a fabric set, please specify the size shown in the diagram on the left. Nothing needs to be added or subtracted;
  • pay attention to the condition of the sliders and cornice mechanisms. Try to carefully remove some of the slats and make sure you don't break the hooks that hold them on. Replacing hooks without dismantling the eaves and its complete bulkhead is not possible!

When using the product, it is strictly not allowed to move apart and move the slats of the blinds if they are in the closed position. The slats must be shifted in a fully or slightly open state. Otherwise, breakage of rotary mechanisms is possible!
