Making a coffee table with your own hands: from ideas to implementation. Hand made: we make a coffee table out of wood with our own hands

A coffee table is not a basic necessity in the house, but without it, the interior is deprived of comfort. Such an insignificant detail significantly changes the atmosphere in the room.

The table, made of wood with your own hands, brings a touch of home warmth. Therefore, it is better to make a coffee table yourself than to buy in a store.

Before starting work on the preparation of materials, it is necessary to decide which model will fit into the interior of the room. What are the preferences in terms of shape, color scheme, height, etc. If a person has a sense of taste, he himself can create a project for a coffee table. Or modify with your own hands a suitable option found both on the net and in specialized magazines.

Modern design solutions involve models of this furniture element that are so diverse in form that you can get lost in this abundance. In recent years, more and more often, not only standard geometric shapes of tables, but also bold exclusive solutions have appeared in interiors.

  • square tables. Quite familiar to the layman version of the coffee table. The traditional shape of the countertop is acceptable in a room with a similar set of furniture that everything is designed in the same style. This form is quite functional if you equip the table with additional shelves and drawers. The dimensions of the countertop may vary, depending on the location and the wishes of the owner. But they are usually used in the size of 80 by 80 centimeters;
  • rectangular tables. This form requires more space in the room, so it is not recommended to place rectangular coffee tables in small rooms. The width of such a standard table is usually 60 cm, the length is arbitrary, but not more than 160 cm. A small company can sit at such tables;
  • round and oval table top shapes. Most often, this form of a coffee table can be found in a house where there are small children or the elderly. The rounded edges of the tabletop will not allow injury and injury to their owners. At an oval or round table it is pleasant to have an evening tea party;
  • non-standard forms. It is very fashionable now to have furniture with non-standard solutions in the interior. Couples in love get tables in the shape of a heart. The triangular table looks fantastic, as if it were a gift from alien creatures. A coffee table in the form of a curved snake, gives the room a unique and extravagance.

Height

The height of the coffee table is of great importance, if not the main one. The standards applicable to this kind of tables say that their height must be at least 40 centimeters, and also not exceed 50 centimeters.

These standards allow you to comfortably use it while sitting on an armchair or sofa.

But these recommendations are relative. The height of sofas and ottomans today is arbitrary. There are models that have a high arrangement of pillows. And there are models in which a person sits almost on the floor. Therefore, low table models are quite in demand today. They are reminiscent of Eastern customs, where it is customary to sit on the floor during a meal.

Width

The main criterion in choosing the width of the countertop is the area of the room where the coffee table will be located. A small apartment requires compact furniture. And in a spacious room it is appropriate to place a large table.

Important! Standards for coffee tables say that the width should be about 60 centimeters, and the length - 120 centimeters.

In many ways, the shape of the table depends on the functionality that is assigned to it. The presence of attached wheels at the bottom is appropriate for frequent movement from place to place. You should also consider whether the wheels will harm the flooring. A large number of shelves is necessary for those who like to keep all sorts of little things at hand or want to use a table for creativity with a child.

What can be made from?

The most common material for making a table is natural tree. This is an environmentally friendly material from which beautiful furniture is obtained.

But over time, the tree can dry out and fade, change its structure and shape. Therefore, it is undesirable to place furniture from it near heating appliances.

In addition, such types of wood as wenge have a high price, which suggests the idea of making only tabletops from wood.

MDF, laminated chipboard, special furniture plates covered with plastic are cheaper options from which you can make a table. This also includes glued wood panels, which are made of less valuable types of wood, allowing significant savings, but at the same time they will look like a solid board of expensive wood. When making the bases of the table from these materials, they are veneered.

It is very fashionable to have a table with a transparent glass countertop. This table gives the room a luxurious and expensive look. But there is one significant disadvantage of such tables.

Important! The glass surface is very easily soiled, any traces of fingers or cups are immediately visible. Therefore, glass tables require increased accuracy in use.

In addition to wood, MDF and glass, non-traditional materials can be used: cork, stone, ceramics, metal, plastic and other materials that can be found in hardware stores.

Tools and materials

Before you make a coffee table with your own hands, you need to collect materials and tools:

  • Glue (preferably PVA)
  • glue brush,
  • Workpiece under the tabletop,
  • preparation for table legs,
  • Wheels (if needed)
  • sheet piles,
  • Hacksaw,
  • jigsaw,
  • Roulette,
  • square,
  • Marker or pencil
  • Drill,
  • Grinding nozzle for drill,
  • self-tapping screws,
  • Screwdriver,
  • clamps,
  • Plane,
  • Chisel,
  • Bit,
  • Mallet.

How to make with your own hands?

How to cut wood elements yourself?

The main elements of a coffee table are countertop, slats and legs. For the manufacture of countertops, you can take materials such as MDF sheet, boards, glass, plywood, etc., but traditions tell you to make your very first table out of wood.

The main rule when preparing table elements is to correctly markup. The proverb “measure seven times, cut once” fits perfectly in this case.

We cut the countertop with an electric jigsaw according to the intended markings. This tool will allow you to make an even cut and give the table any shape, from a simple rectangular to curly. Legs (4 pieces) can be cut off with a hacksaw and further jigsaw to give them any shape. Planks (4 pieces) are also cut with a hacksaw. Then we make holes in the legs, and spikes in the planks. In the future, it is necessary to grind all the blanks of the future table.

Assembly

We make a preliminary assembly of the table, with the subsequent adjustment of all the details. The joints should fit snugly into each other with a little hand pressure. If the coffee table turned out the way you yourself intended, then you can proceed to gluing the parts.

Important! To increase durability, you should disassemble the structure back and coat with PVA glue all the spikes for final assembly. Fix the details of the table with clamps and allow the glue to dry for a day.

The next day, we clean the legs with slats from glue residue. Then we attach the countertop to the slats with self-tapping screws and glue. Self-tapping screws should not go through the countertop. After drying, clean all seams again from glue residue.

Treatment

When the coffee table dries well, you can begin work that will protect the wood from moisture, decay, the appearance of fungi and mold. And also for decorating a home interior element created by your own hands.

Protection is made with antiseptic agents that will protect the table from moisture and exposure to sunlight.

The most popular and affordable tool for wood products is wood stain. It prevents the material from deformation, fungus and mold.

The stain is a water-repellent deep penetrating agent. There is a large selection of color shades of this tool, similar to different types of wood. After the stain has dried, a colorless varnish is applied, which gives shine and gloss.

Yacht varnish protects the tree from swelling, drying out and decay. This varnish forms a film after a single application. Re-treatment should be carried out after two years.

Important! Yacht varnish does not have decorative properties, its main function is to protect wood.

Polyurethane varnish repels moisture and prevents deformation, shrinkage and wear of the material. This varnish comes in two types - matte and glossy.

Acrylic lacquer helps to protect the surface of the wooden table from the effects of external natural factors. With this varnish it is best to process pieces of furniture in a summer cottage. It protects the wooden product from moisture. The main component of acrylic lacquer is an aqueous dispersion of resins. It gives decorative properties to the finished product.

All of these products are easy to apply with a roller or brush. To work with them, you do not need to be a great specialist in the paint and varnish business. The main thing is to arm yourself with personal protective equipment (mask, respirator).

In contact with

The choice of ready-made tables in the furniture store is huge, and it will not be difficult to choose the model that fits perfectly into the interior. But it is even easier and cheaper to make a coffee table with your own hands. This does not require any expensive materials or special tools. And all the work, even for a beginner in carpentry, will take a maximum of two to three hours.

DIY coffee table

Since there is a wide variety of wood coffee tables, drawings of several models will be given below. They differ not only in appearance, but also in the complexity of execution.

Rustic style

For the manufacture of such a piece of furniture, it is undesirable to take glued wood. A truly chic table will look if you make it from solid oak, hornbeam, boxwood. But since these types of wood are very expensive, they can be replaced with birch, spruce or ash. A big plus will be the use of old boards that bear the imprint of time, or artificially aged. Such material should not be painted or varnished, it looks harmonious in itself.

Blueprints

This model does not require strict adherence to schemes and instructions. It is easy to make, changing all sizes at will. The initial settings are listed below.

All values are in inches. If it is not possible to get a ruler or square, with markings in this metric system, you need to convert them to centimeters. To do this, just multiply the amount by 2.54.

materials

For manufacturing you will need:

  • Boards at least 3 cm thick.
  • Self-tapping screws.
  • Wood for carving thorns.
  • Joiner's glue.
  • Paint, stain and varnish (optional).

Tools

In the process of work, you can not do without:

  • Fraser.
  • Knife saw.
  • Screwdriver.
  • Electric drills.
  • Chisels.
  • Sander or sandpaper.

Step-by-step instruction

In the process of work, you will have to sequentially perform the following operations:

  1. Training. It consists of three stages:
    1. Draw the boards, outlining the location of all the details.
    2. Cut out the details along the drawn outline.
    3. Sand each saw with sandpaper or grind with a grinder. If the surface of the wood is rough, it should also be brought to full smoothness.
  2. Creation of technological openings. The task is to drill them in places where the parts will be fastened with wooden spikes. These are the connection points of the legs with horizontally laid transverse side planks in the lower and upper parts, as well as the connection of the boards that make up the table top. To facilitate the work, the tabletop can be assembled not on spikes, but with the help of several rails attached from the inside with self-tapping screws and glue.
  3. Spike cutting. Focusing on the diameter and length of the resulting holes, wooden spikes are prepared.
  4. Product assembly. It is carried out in several stages:
    1. First, the boards of the countertop are mounted to each other. Regardless of which connection is used, on wooden spikes or on battens nailed across, it does not hurt to use glue at the joints. The main thing is to make sure that drops of glue do not leak onto the front side.
    2. After that, the legs and side strips are assembled, the lower shelf and decorative crossbars are mounted on the sides.
    3. The tabletop is screwed to the upper side strips with self-tapping screws.

Unusual

This table will really appeal to those who have purchased a sofa without armrests. You can put a laptop or a cup of coffee on it, and put things that you want to keep at hand. Since the lower part goes under the sofa, it does not take up extra space, and if necessary, you can turn it upside down, and it will turn into a regular coffee or children's table.

Blueprints

Dimensions are in inches. To convert them to centimeters, you need to multiply by 2.54. You can change the width and length of the elements according to individual needs.

Parameters of the main parts:

Internal vertical bar that serves as additional support:

materials

To create such a convenient and useful piece of furniture, you only need:

  • Boards.
  • Self-tapping screws.
  • Joiner's glue.
  • Paint, varnish, stain are used as desired. If the interior is made in boring colors (gray or beige), it is recommended to make the table bright and add a few more accent things of the same color to the room. It can be curtains, pillows, a flower pot.

Tools

There are tools at home for any person who likes to make something out of wood with their own hands:

  • Saw-hacksaw.
  • A grinder, which will successfully replace sandpaper.
  • Screwdriver.
  • Glue brush.

Work description

There is nothing difficult in making such an unusual coffee table. The work will take little time and require almost no special skills:

  1. Cut out the material. Details are drawn on the boards, guided by the drawings. You need two identical elements for the top and bottom, a longer vertical element, a vertical inner bar and four small strips to create a "leg".
  2. Sawing. Cut out all the details with a hacksaw.
  3. Grinding. Remove all splinters and roughness on cuts and other parts of the parts with a grinder.
  4. Decorative processing. Details are covered with stain, paint and / or varnish.
  5. Assembly. All elements are interconnected according to the scheme. Since large loads on this table are not provided for by its design, you can only use wood glue. For reliability, it is worth screwing screws in several places.

If you need a colored table, but there is no way to use varnish and paint, and then wait for them to dry, it is better to use a self-adhesive film.

Making a transforming table

The coffee table-transformer easily turns into a dining table or work surface. Making one with your own hands is no more difficult than a regular one, but using it is much more convenient.

When folded, the table looks like a rectangular cabinet, and when unfolded, its tabletop becomes higher and doubles in size.

Blueprints

The drawings are given only for the wooden elements of the table. It makes no sense to make a transformation mechanism with your own hands, since buying a ready-made one will cost less and significantly reduce time costs.

Tools and materials

To make a transforming coffee table, you will need the following tools:

  • Screwdriver.
  • Knife saw.
  • Electric drill.
  • Sander.
  • Electric jigsaw.
  • Square or ruler.
  • Simple pencil.

From consumables should be prepared:

  • Natural wood boards or MDF, chipboard, OSB panels.
  • Self-tapping screws.
  • Metal furniture corners.
  • Loops.
  • Optional - varnish, paint and stain.
  • Tassels.
  • Joiner's glue.
  • Sandpaper (in the absence of a grinder).
  • If glued wood panels are used, a special thermal tape is also needed to decorate the edges.

Completing of the work

Before you get to work, you should find a transformation mechanism that is suitable in size for sale. To make the finished table convenient to use, even in the store you need to check the smoothness of the move, make sure that there are no squeaks and jams.

When all the materials and tools are prepared, you can start making the table. This process consists of several stages:

  1. Wood marking. Using a pencil and a square, lines are drawn on the boards indicating the edges of the parts. You can immediately number each element, so that later you do not get confused during assembly.
  2. Cutting details. Using a hacksaw and a jigsaw, cut out the parts along the marked lines. This work should be done carefully, as one awkward movement can ruin the material.
  3. Grinding. Each detail is processed with a grinder until it acquires absolute smoothness. Not a single splinter should remain on the boards, for which it will then be possible to catch on clothes or get hurt.
  4. Impregnation with stain. This is done in one or several layers, depending on the desired color of the wood. Before applying each subsequent layer, you need to wait for the previous one to dry.
  5. Painting or varnishing. After staining, the parts are varnished. If it was not used, you can paint them in any desired color.
  6. Product assembly. Guided by the above scheme, the table is assembled using self-tapping screws, for reliability, gluing all wood joints with carpentry glue. The load-bearing sidewalls are also reinforced from the inside with furniture corners. The two parts of the tabletop are fastened together with loops so that the protruding part of the loops is on the wrong side and does not spoil the appearance of the unfolded table.

Table top decoration

To give the table more personality and make it unique, you can decorate the table top. The most popular options are aquarium, decoupage, mosaic and craquelure.

Aquarium

The backing table top is made with small sides on the sides, various shells, sea stones and other decor are laid on it, and then filled with epoxy. By the way, it is not necessary to decorate the countertop in a marine style, you can create any composition that fits the interior.

Decoupage

Decoupage allows you to decorate the countertop with any pattern you like. Ready-made pictures can be bought at the store, they will only have to be glued to the surface and varnished. They also use paper napkins with images and even print pictures on a printer.

The decoupage technique is performed as follows:

  1. The napkin is stratified and the part that will be used for decoration is cut out with nail scissors.
  2. The cut piece is placed face down on a plastic bag or on cling film.
  3. Swipe over the napkin with a damp brush (not dry and not so wet that water drips from it).
  4. That part of the countertop where the drawing will be located is smeared with glue, then a napkin is placed over the adhesive layer with the wet part down and the paper is slowly peeled off from the polyethylene using a brush with glue.
  5. When the drawing is completely transferred to the table, it is covered with another layer of glue.
  6. If wrinkles appear, they are eliminated by ironing them through tracing paper.
  7. Paints can draw contours, add shadows.
  8. After finishing work, the countertop is varnished.

Mosaic

Decorating with mosaic tiles looks very original and expensive. You can buy everything you need to work with a mosaic in a needlework store, but you should come up with a pattern yourself.

Craquelure

A beautiful cobweb of randomly located cracks is formed on the surface of the countertop if it is covered with a special craquelure varnish, which is sold in building hypermarkets and large stores with needlework goods. This method can be used on its own or in combination with mosaic or decoupage.

A coffee table made by hand will not only be a wonderful addition to the interior, but also a reason for pride. After all, not every home has such unique and inimitable furniture.

Landscaping is an ongoing process. You build something, you improve it. Moreover, furniture is constantly required and tables are most in demand in the country. And put in the garden, and near the house, and also in. How to make a table for a summer residence with your own hands we will tell in this article using the example of finished projects.

Homemade table from boards from pallets

Dismantled pallets served as the material for this table. Naturally, you can use new boards. Only one condition - they must be dry. You can buy dry ones (it costs more) or buy ordinary ones, put them somewhere in ventilated piles and soak for at least 4 months, or better, six months. In general, any furniture, including, is made from dry wood.

We assemble the table for the street - put it in the gazebo, therefore we will not glue the tabletop boards, but fasten them from below, with the help of planks. This is a very simple country table and very cheap.

Having dismantled the pallets, we get boards with an individual color and pattern. Having conjured a little, shifting them several dozen times in different manners, we achieve the desired result. It turns out quite a nice table.

We take the side parts of the pallet. We use them for the frame of the table. We grind them first with coarse sandpaper, then finely bring them to the required smoothness (grain 120 and 220).

We take the strips that remained unused, with their help we fasten the countertop. We place them in the place where the joints of the boards are located. We use two self-tapping screws for fastening each board with a joint, one for a solid one.

From the processed sidewalls and two boards (also sanded), we assemble the table frame. We fix its parts with self-tapping screws at the end (two for each joint). The frame can be glued or also “planted” on self-tapping screws. Only their length is large. Under each, we pre-drill holes with a drill, the diameter of which is slightly smaller than the diameter of the self-tapping screws.

We turn the assembled countertop over and grind it. The order is the same - first with sandpaper with a large grain, then with a fine one.

Next up is installing the legs. We select four boards of the same size, check their length, adjust if necessary. Then again grinding. It's easier than sanding already screwed legs. We fasten the sanded boards to the frame. These will be the legs. For each - two self-tapping screws fixed in a diagonal (look at the photo). For greater stability, we install jumpers at the bottom. About 10 cm can be left from the floor to the jumpers. We connect everything with self-tapping screws so that the boards do not crack, we pre-drill holes.

After removing the dust, varnish again. In theory, the varnish should lie flat, but depends on the wood, so another sanding / painting cycle may be necessary. As a result, we get such a homemade country table.

If you do not like motley boards and traces of old nails, you can make their boards the same design. This table can be rectangular, maybe square. All dimensions are arbitrary - see the available space.

Country table from the remnants of the boards

This do-it-yourself table for giving is assembled from the remains of boards of different breeds and sizes. Pine boards 25 mm thick and 50 mm wide went to the frame of the tabletop, the remains of 15 * 50 mm were left on the legs. We make the frame according to the dimensions you need. This table will stand on the veranda, and it has a small width. So let's make it not wide - 60 cm, and the length is 140 cm. The height of the legs is 80 cm (everyone in the family is tall).

We immediately cut off two long boards of 140 cm each. To make the width of the table top 60 cm, subtract twice the thickness of the board used - this is 5 cm. Short bars should be 60 cm - 5 cm = 55 cm. Fold the frame, following the right angles, twist with screws. We check whether the bars are folded correctly - we measure the diagonals, they should be the same.

We cut off the boards four boards of 80 cm each, fasten them from the inside to the assembled frame. You can use 4 screws for each leg.

Approximately at the middle of the height of the legs we fasten the crossbars. This is a shelf frame. The shelf can be used for its intended purpose, and it also increases the rigidity of the structure. We fasten strictly at right angles, checking with a large square.

We put the frame on the floor, check whether it staggers or not. If everything is done correctly, it should stand rigidly. Next, take sandpaper or a grinder and grind.

Let's start assembling the countertop. From the finishing work there were boards of different types of wood, some of which were stained. We alternate boards of different colors.

We fasten the tabletop boards with finishing nails, carefully finishing them with a finisher. On the shelf can be fixed with ordinary nails or self-tapping screws. Then smooth with a grinder. The last step is painting. Very unlucky with the choice of varnish. Bought too dark, did not like the look. Will have to sand again and paint a different color.

Wooden table with glued top

This design features L-shaped legs. They are assembled from boards of the same thickness. In this case, 20 mm. To keep them well, 5 self-tapping screws are needed. Pre-drill holes with a drill with a diameter of 1-2 mm less than the diameter of the self-tapping screws. Then, with a larger diameter drill, we drill recesses for the caps. The diameter can be matched to furniture plugs of a suitable color or made from a wooden rod. Another option is to use wood putty, to which you add wood dust that remains after sanding. After drying and sanding, traces will be difficult to find.

When assembling the legs, make sure that the angle is exactly 90°. As a pattern, you can choose a bar. First, we coat the joint of the two parts of the leg with carpentry glue, then install the screws in the following sequence: first the two extreme ones, then the middle one, and only then the other two. After the glue dries, sand the legs, varnish and dry.

It's time to make the tabletop. It is assembled from boards of the same thickness. Pick up the size you need. You can use fragments of different widths. It is only important that everything looks organic, and the sidewalls of the boards are even and docked without gaps.

We coat the sides of the boards selected for the table top with glue, lay them on a flat surface (some kind of table) and tighten them with clamps. In this case, they managed one, but preferably at least three. We tighten so that there are no gaps in the resulting shield. We leave for a day. Having removed the clamps, we get an almost finished countertop. It still needs to be trimmed - to align the edges, and then sand it. You can trim with a jigsaw or a regular hand saw. Using a grinder is difficult to get a straight line, but you can try. After grinding, we get a beautiful countertop.

Using the same technique, you can make an oval or round countertop. It will only be necessary to draw the appropriate line and cut the glued boards along it.

To make the table look more attractive, we will make a frame. We take a thin bar, process it with sandpaper and fasten it around the perimeter of the countertop. Finishing nails can also be used. Only the planks are also pre-lubricated with carpentry glue, and then with nails.

After the glue dries, we again process the junction with sandpaper.

Now you can attach the table legs. We assemble a table frame from four boards (there is no photo, but you can do it as in the previous paragraph). We fasten it to the back of the countertop with glue, then install furniture confirmations through the countertop. Under the confirmations, a preliminary hole is drilled with an extension for the cap. Holes for fasteners are masked in the same way as on the legs.

We attach the legs to the fixed frame. We put them inside the frame. You can attach with ordinary screws. That's it, we made a table for giving with our own hands.

How to make a wooden garden table with benches

For this table, boards of 38 * 89 mm were used (they dissolved them themselves), but you can take standard sizes. The difference in millimeters will not really affect the results. In the photo below you can see what should happen.

To connect the parts, studs 16 cm long with washers and nuts (24 pieces) were used. All other connections are made with nails 80 mm long.

The parts are installed in place, a through hole is drilled with a drill. A stud is installed in it, washers are put on both sides and nuts are tightened. Everything is tightened with a wrench. How convenient is this option? For the winter, you can disassemble and take it to a barn or garage.

Making seats

According to the drawing, we cut the boards of the required size. Everything is necessary in double quantity - for two seats. We grind the boards, pay special attention to the ends.

We cut the short segments with which we fasten the three seat boards along the edges at an angle of 45 °. First, we assemble a structure that is attached to the seat from below. We take a board about 160 cm long, at the end we attach two short boards cut at an angle to it. Attach it so that this board is in the middle.

Then we attach the legs to the resulting structure (you can use nails). Then we add more boards cut at an angle and tighten everything with studs and bolts.

We attach the seat boards to the resulting structure. Since this is a table for the street, it is not necessary to knock them down close. Leave a gap between two adjacent at least 5 mm. We nail to the supports (which are cut down), two for each board.

We fix the finished seats with four boards 160 cm long. We fasten each leg with studs (if you walk, you can put two studs by setting them diagonally or one above the other).

Putting together a table

The table is assembled in a different way. Please note that for the countertop, the transverse boards are sawn along the edges at 52 °. We fasten them at such a distance that the legs enter. Each board has 2 nails. You can finish, with small hats, or you can hammer deep, and then mask the holes with putty.

Now we need to assemble the legs-crosses. We take two boards, cross them so that the distance between their ends is 64.5 cm. We circle the intersection with a pencil. At this point, it will be necessary to remove the wood by half the thickness of the board.

We make the same notch on the second board. If you add them together, they are in the same plane. We connect with four nails.

Similarly, we make the second leg for the table. While the table is not collected.

Installing the table

Now you need to fix the legs to the structure on which the benches are installed. We put them at an equal distance from the benches, fasten them with hairpins.

Now install the table top. We also fasten it with studs. The last step is painting. Here everyone does as he pleases.

Variations on a theme

According to this drawing, you can make benches and a table separately for giving, garden. The design is reliable and easy to implement.

Step 3 We apply from above countertop. We pin it to the legs with thin nails. One is enough for a small table nail in the middle and one nail for each leg.

Step 4 Turn the table over and nail the support for wheels. We also use glue and 5 nails.

Step 5 Carefully cover the nail heads putty.

Step 6 Processing the coffee table impregnation for a tree. We cover with varnish or paint.

Step 7 When is the last layer varnish or the paint is completely dry, you can screw the wheels.

The coffee table can be left in this state, or you can additionally decorate.

Important! Before you start assembling the table, you should paste over the ends of all parts made of chipboard, chipboard, MDF with a melamine edge.

Coffee table-transformer

This table will fit perfectly into the design of any room and will save a lot of space, and if necessary, it can easily turn from a coffee table into dining. The disadvantage of the transformer is difficult assembly. Consider manufacturing such a table.

First you need to decide on mechanism upon which all will be built. assembly. Mechanisms of domestic production cheaper, foreign ones are more expensive.

The design of the transformer comes with backlash and with springs.

Stages of work

Step 1. Acquisition of a transformer mechanism.

Important! Mechanisms for a transformer are available in different types and sizes, so when choosing, you should consider the dimensions of your future table.

Step 2 Using the simulation program, we create layout table that is right for you. Suitable for this programs PRO100 or Google's Sketch Up: Lightweight, with intuitive controls, so it's easy to figure them out. Creating a layout will take 2-3 hours.

Step 3 cutting details You can also do it with the program. She calculates all the necessary materials, which greatly simplifies our work. Having received everything sizes, sawing the details.

Step 4 Table assembly. frame our table will be assembled using confirmations(screeds for connecting parts made of wood materials). For this you need to do hole special drill. Marking is more convenient to do with a pencil or using ordinary stickers.

Step 5 Further, in accordance with the transformer mechanism attached instruction attach it to our frame. Before that, you need to insert springs.
We fasten with a simple through way due to the heavy weight of the mechanism.

Drilling holes for the bolts and with a special drill we drill places for the heads of the bolts.

We strengthen transformer with bolts.

Step 6 Fasten in a similar way mechanism on the other side.

Step 7 Collecting legs. The weight of our table is approx. 50 kg therefore, it is necessary to fasten the legs of the table together with ordinary furniture screeds.

Step 8 We will screw our legs to the frame of the table. We make markings and drill holes.

Step 9 We fasten all the legs to the frame. legs hid all working moments of the table.

Step 10 Manufacturing countertops. The tabletop is the most main part of the table. Choosing durable hinges for table top. The hinge holes are small. Screw in the hinges.

As a result, after screwing all the countertops to the mechanism, we get such a transforming coffee table:

Product finishing

For how to make a round solid wood coffee table, see video:

The coffee table is an optional piece of furniture. At the same time, its presence makes any living room more comfortable. On the table you can put a newspaper, put a cup of tea or coffee. We will make this piece of furniture ourselves, making it truly original and comfortable.

Low table - a practical interior decoration

The very first coffee table was created in the middle of the 19th century in England. Within a couple of decades, this furniture adorned the living rooms of all European houses. In the 20th century, the fashion for it came to our country. True, in Russia the tables we are interested in are called coffee tables, not coffee tables. But this does not change the essence of the matter. Such a piece of furniture is understood as a small table no more than 40-50 cm high, which can have any ergonomics, look and design. It all depends on the preferences of the consumer.

In furniture stores, low tables are sold in a wide range. You can find both an inexpensive design and a designer thing that can make any interior chic and unusual. But many home craftsmen want to make an original table themselves using a variety of improvised materials. We put a piece of our soul into home-made furniture. So, it will turn out really comfortable and will be able to fill the home with comfort and warmth.

Coffee tables are made from wood and glass. It is also possible to assemble unusual and beautiful designs from:

  • an old window and ordinary books;
  • unused heating radiator;
  • wooden pallets or boxes;
  • dismantled interior or entrance door;
  • car tire;
  • wicker basket;
  • coils from the electric cable.

There are a lot of options for making a table for tea parties. You just need to show your imagination and listen to the advice of experienced craftsmen who are engaged in self-decoration of their homes. Next, we describe the most popular ways to build coffee tables. And you stop your choice on the most suitable option.

We make furniture from chipboard - as easy as shelling pears!

Chipboard is the most affordable material to create. Chipboards are processed without problems, easily cut to the required dimensions, and have an affordable price. For the assembly of low tables, it is recommended to use laminated boards, as they are characterized by an attractive appearance, and products from them are durable. There are many sites on the Internet where it is not difficult to find various drawings with dimensions for making furniture from chipboard. We propose to make a table, focusing on the sketches below.

The design we planned consists of the following elements:

  • shelf dimensions 500x700 mm;
  • countertop 736x736;
  • 4 strips 100x464;
  • 4 plastic corners and the same number of legs (or wheels);
  • 2 bottoms (the dimensions of each of them are 500x700);
  • 4 strips 100x464.

We will fasten these elements with cofirmats, they will need 8 pieces, and 16 3.5x16 mm.

We make the table step by step. First (position 1 in the diagram) we make a shelf from a chipboard (preferably, as it was said, laminated) board. Cutting is done with an electric jigsaw, using a file with a small step. Such a tool will eliminate the likelihood of chips. Then (position 2) we attach the planks to the tabletop (we sit them on plastic corners). We mount the shelf (pos. 3) in the center of the strips installed vertically. We make holes in it with a cross section of 4.5 mm (you will need a drill with an appropriate drill). We fix the shelf with confirmations. Without them, our tea table may not be very stable and reliable in operation. With the help of confirmations, we screw the bottom of the structure (pos. 4).

After that, we fasten the legs (pos. 5). They are not fastened from the very edges of the table, but retreated from them by about 15 mm. Instead of legs, it is allowed to mount small wheels (fixed with self-tapping screws). Then we get a mobile coffee table that can be moved throughout the home. It remains only to bring home-made furniture to mind. We glue with a melamine edge all the visible joints of our table. Visually, the design of laminated chipboard will look perfect! By the way, instead of wood chip blanks, you can use MDF (wood fiber products). The result will be about the same.

Glass table - stylish and elegant

The interiors, made in a modern theme, are perfectly complemented by compact glass tables. They are installed on wooden or chrome legs. It is desirable to use frosted glass. It usually has a special film that protects the countertop from mechanical damage. In addition, stains from spilled tea, coffee, other drinks and fingerprints on frosted glass will not be so noticeable.

The recommended tabletop width is up to 120 cm. There is no need to build a table with large parameters. It will be difficult to fit it into the interior of a standard apartment or a small private house. Choose any form of construction. But if you are making a glass coffee table with your own hands for the first time, it is better to stay in a rectangular configuration. We can buy chrome legs in a furniture store. And wood components are easy to make yourself. A drawing of a table with standard dimensions is shown below.

Let's get to work. First, we cut the glass according to the given geometric parameters. This operation must be done slowly. Place the glass on a flat surface. We outline the cut lines with a simple pencil. Wet the glass cutter with sunflower oil (or other lubricant). We apply a metal ruler to the intended line. Gently (without strong pressure) we go through the markup with a glass cutter. Then we shift the glass from the surface, ensuring that the extra pieces of material are on weight. We tap our fingers along the marking line, lightly press. After these actions, unnecessary parts of the glass break strictly along the lines made.

The cut material needs to be processed. First, we clean the edges of the glass with a file, then with a grinder equipped with a diamond tool. Additionally, it is recommended to sand potentially unsafe parts of the glass with sandpaper (fine grit). Then we take a thin felt, mount it on the edges of the countertop and press it against it. This will protect our furniture from scratches. Flip the table face down. We make marks for mounting the legs. From the edges of the tabletop, it is desirable to install them at a distance of at least 50 mm.

We drill holes at the top of the bases of all legs. They will be required to attach the suction cup. Everything is simple here. We process the suction cups with an adhesive, mount them in the prepared holes, press the elements as tightly as possible. After the glue sets, we turn the home-made structure into its normal position and wait about two days. After 48 hours the coffee table will be ready for use.

We will build a structure from wood - a win-win option

Wooden tea tables are suitable for any living space, no matter what kind of decor is implemented in them. Wood products look great both in classic interiors and in the most modern ones. Making wooden furniture with your own hands is really simple. Moreover, we can build a table of any design - the simplest, with many additional drawers, stands, shelves. With the right approach to business, we will get a piece of furniture that is no different from expensive store tables.

We will not offer a drawing of a wooden structure. Any craftsman is able to draw up a simple sketch of such a structure with the desired dimensions. But let's say a few words about the materials and tools that will be needed to complete the work. Stocking up:

  • bars or trimmings of wooden boards (of which we will make table legs and crossbars);
  • two thick boards;
  • varnish and stain;
  • grinder, sandpaper;
  • wood saw;
  • glue;
  • electric drill.

We start creating. We cut thick boards to the required dimensions to make a countertop out of them. We connect them with each other with glue. We are waiting for the structure to stick together firmly. At this time, we make crossbars and legs from scraps of boards or bars. We give the tabletop the selected shape. It can be rectangular or square (it's easier), but tables with a variety of roundness and curves look better. Wood is easy to work with. With the help of a hacksaw, we can easily create a countertop of the configuration we need. After that, using a grinding machine, we carefully process the finished elements. Additionally, we rub their surface with sandpaper.

On the countertop, legs, crossbars we apply stain. This composition gives the tree a noble look, providing the effect of antiquity. These elements are completely processed with a stain. We need to apply it not only on the surface, but also on the end parts of the coffee table parts. Nuance. The ends of wood products can be covered with decorative materials, for example, butterflies often used for this purpose.

Next, we attach the crossbars to the tabletop, assembled from two boards. The operation is performed using glue and round spikes inserted into pre-made holes. The latter are drilled in the right places with an electric drill. We fix the legs in the same way: we make holes, grease the spikes with glue, insert them into the grooves. The tea table is ready. Let's cover it with varnish so that the design looks perfect, and enjoy the new piece of furniture in the house.

Books, waste paper and an old window - you can even make a table out of them!

As we have already noted, the original coffee table can really be made from various improvised materials. If you have a lot of old magazines and newspapers, you don't have to throw them away. Let's make an unusual table out of them according to the following scheme:

  1. 1. We roll waste paper into tight tubes.
  2. 2. We fix the resulting blanks with rubber bands.
  3. 3. Immerse the prepared tubes into a bucket filled with a water-polymer emulsion.
  4. 4. We are waiting for 5-7 minutes.
  5. 5. We take out the soaked paper blanks and hang them on a rope on wire hooks. Drying should be carried out in a room where there is no dust. Don't forget to put plastic wrap under the rope. Streams of water from waste paper will flow onto it.
  6. 6. From the dried tubes we form a cabinet for a coffee table - just glue them together (as tightly as possible) with PVA glue.

The created cabinet is usually fixed with strong threads and left to dry. Then we cut our homemade table from the top and bottom. We get a neat bedside table. We glue ordinary or mirror glass on top of it, using silicone, which is used to repair aquariums. Advice. Glass should be 1.2–1.5 cm thick. Thin countertops will be unreliable in operation. One careless move and they will crack.

In cases where the old window structure in the dwelling is changed to a new one (for example, to a plastic one), the dismantled product can also be adapted for a coffee table. We are waiting for a minimum of difficulties. We remove hinges, handles, other accessories from the window, wash the canvas well. If necessary, peel off the old layer of paint, polish the surface and paint with a fresh composition. Before us is a finished tabletop. You can install it on any legs. A great option is to make them from volumes that have been collecting dust on bookshelves in your home for decades.

We fasten the books to each other, forming legs of the required height from them.

The procedure is performed using superglue. Another option is to drill neat holes in the books and thread a steel bar through them. We install the updated window frame on homemade legs and rejoice at our ingenuity. Such coffee tables are good for interiors in retro, vintage, Provence styles. Instead of a window, by the way, it is allowed to use old doors, a mirror or just a large board, which had no place in the household.

Furniture for tea parties from pallets and boxes - simple and original

Wooden pallets are products used for the transportation and storage of various goods and cargo. Pallets perform the same function. But they are considered more modern designs. Both the first and second are ready-made countertops. Low tables from them turn out well. At the same time, the entire process of making home-made furniture from such products requires a minimum of time and labor from the home master.

We just need to thoroughly clean and wash the pallet, process it with a grinder and sandpaper, and paint it in the chosen color. It is not necessary to apply a single color paint. Color the table to your liking. Apply any ornaments and symbols to the pallet. And if you wish, you can not paint the workpiece at all, leaving the wood in its natural form. Small chips, scratches, cracks emphasize the natural texture of the structure.

We install the prepared tabletop on low wooden bars or on wheels. Here you need to understand that the mass of pallets is quite serious - up to 15-25 kg. Therefore, wheels and legs for a table from a pallet should be selected wisely. They must withstand a given load. However, a pallet of sufficient height may not be equipped with legs. The design and without them will turn out convenient and reliable.

If there are no pallets at hand, it is really possible to make a table from any empty wooden boxes. Suitable containers for wine, vegetables, fruits. From two drawers you can build a small coffee table, and from four - a spacious structure for gatherings with friends. We assemble the boxes into square or rectangular furniture. We fasten them together with nails, putty the installation sites of the hardware with a mixture of glue and sawdust. We decorate the structure, cover it with varnish. We get a chic table.

In the free space between the boxes we put a vase or a pot of flowers. You can also cover it with a suitable sheet product. Nuance. Design experts advise making a plastic countertop coating if the interior of the home is made in the style of minimalism and modernity. For high-tech and art deco decors, it is better to use a sheet of polished steel. Country-style interiors are perfectly complemented by wooden flooring. And the glass, placed on a table of drawers, will harmoniously fit into any decor of the room.

Other ideas for assembling structures - a little more creativity

It is really possible to build a massive coffee table from an old cast-iron radiator. It is enough to tint it a little, install it on strong wheels, and cover it with glass on top (if possible, with rounded edges). The functionality of such a design, of course, is in question. She, nevertheless, weighs 60–80 kilograms. But here she does not hold originality. Not a single guest of your home will be able to ignore such an unusual piece of furniture.

And car lovers have the opportunity to make a convenient table from an old tire from their iron horse. Very often, tires are used to decorate the garden and vegetable garden. But even in the house, with proper preparation, they will look out of place. To create a table from a tire in the now popular eco-style, you need to stock up:

Table from an old tire

  • two circles cut out of a plywood sheet (we take their cross section a little less than the diameter of the tire used);
  • superglue;
  • cord, plait or decorative rope;
  • varnish;
  • self-tapping screws, electric drill;
  • wheels.

We attach plywood circles to the tire on both sides. Products can be put on superglue or (more reliable) on self-tapping screws. If you want the homemade plywood cover to open, one of the circles should be installed on small loops. Then in the niche of the tire it will be possible to store a variety of household trifles.

After that, we proceed to decorate the coffee table. We make a small circle from a rope (harness). We coat the middle of the plywood countertop with glue. Carefully fasten the rope element to it. Similarly, going from the center to the edges, we decorate the rest of the surface. Then we turn the tire over and continue to braid it on the sides. The bottom of the structure can not be decorated. Attach the legs to the bottom sheet (as an option - wheels). The table is ready. It remains to cover it with varnish or a special wax composition.

Fantasize more! Original tables for tea parties can also be made from other improvised materials. The more creative the craft will look, the more positive emotions you will experience when looking at it. Decorate your home with unusual homemade furniture, creating unique interiors. Good luck.
