How to glue non-woven wallpaper? How to glue wide wallpaper on non-woven base: meter canvases How to glue embossed vinyl wallpaper on non-woven base.

The guide will save you from many common mistakes and tell you how to glue non-woven wallpaper correctly: about gluing corners, marking walls, cutting wallpaper and gluing technology.

Non-woven wallpaper can be with or without a pattern. The second type will require additional coloring. Such wallpapers mask the imperfections of the walls well, they are the simplest material for decoration.

Preliminary preparation of the room before pasting

At the preliminary stage, it is important to correctly calculate the required number of rolls. To do this, on each side of the room, you need to measure the width and height. When calculating the required number of rolls, it is important to add several centimeters to the length of the required web.

Note! You should buy wallpaper from only one batch number. This number is usually found on the roll label. Only rolls from the same batch number will definitely have the same shade and pattern texture.

Before wallpapering, the walls must be leveled, wallpapers wider than 50 cm are very sensitive to unevenness

Preliminary preparation of the room before wallpapering is. This fact is especially important for wide wallpapers, which are extremely intolerant of irregularities, especially at the joints.

Sockets and switches must be dismantled, wires isolated. Treat the walls with primer and be sure to dry. Protect the remaining furniture in the room, the floor and unused areas of space with plastic wrap.

Preparing corners for pasting

In the corners, the panels are glued with an overlap, so their irregularities are hidden

This process should be done at the stage of filling the walls. In the corners, you need to put special plastic corners that will be attached to the walls with putty. After the design is dry, you can start pasting. When pasting a corner, the wall is treated with glue, including the corner. The panel is glued with an overlap, experts do not recommend gluing the whole canvas into a corner. Because the corners are usually far from ideal and the formation of defects is possible. The overlap on the next wall should be small.

Necessary tools and materials:

  • you will need a roller to roll the edge
  • polyethylene film
  • plastic spatula
  • for glue bucket and roller
  • soft bristled brush
  • pencil and tape measure
  • plumb line
  • building level
  • glue designed specifically for non-woven wallpaper

The process of pasting the walls with your own hands

Stage number 1. Wall marking

When working with non-woven wallpaper, marking is necessary because the sticker is butt

Markup is recommended to start from scratch. Wallpaper on this basis has an excellent edge, the butt pasting method is used. Overlapped panels are glued in the corners. This is done in order to enable good further processing. If the width of the roll is 1.06 meters, then a meter must be set aside on both sides of the corner.

Initially, a vertical line is drawn with a pencil using a level or plumb line. From the drawn line with a tape measure, 1.06 meters are marked. So it is necessary to draw all the walls that are being prepared for pasting.

Stage number 2. Preparing the site and cutting the wallpaper

Make sure that the pattern fits together, flaws will be very noticeable with large ornaments

After marking the walls on the floor, you need to spread a clean plastic wrap. It will be needed as a place for rolling rolls. This is done by laying the wallpaper face down. When trimming the panel, it is important to take into account the pattern on the wallpaper.

If there is no drawing, then the place where the first piece will be glued is measured with a tape measure. Another ten centimeters are added. The roll is folded over the rolled part so that the edges match. First, the bend is carried out by hand, and then it is cut with a knife. Prepare wallpaper for pasting the entire room.

Prepared panels are folded into loose rolls face down. Non-woven wallpaper is tolerant of such manipulations.

Stage number 3. Glue preparation

When diluting the glue, lumps should not be allowed to appear, they negatively affect the quality of the sticker

Wallpaper glue should be bought specifically for non-woven wallpaper. It should be diluted according to the instructions that are indicated on the package. Usually, glue is diluted according to this technology: water is poured into a bucket, glue is poured into it in a thin stream, it is constantly stirred. There should be no lumps, otherwise they will interfere with high-quality gluing. In order for the glue to become suitable, you need to let it stand for a while. It will be useful to insert a special plastic mesh into the bucket, which will help remove excess glue.

If you already had non-woven wallpaper,

Stage number 4. Applying glue and wallpapering the walls

Dip the roller in a bucket of glue, run along the grid, and then apply glue to the wall. Apply glue only at the rate of pasting one panel. The cloth should be glued on top. The canvas is taken by the edge and applied to the wall. Gradually lower the roll down, smoothing the wallpaper from the middle to the edges with a special brush or roller. You can also use a plastic spatula, but be careful not to damage the wallpaper.

Note! Wallpaper should be firmly pressed against the wall, there should be no bubbles inside or wrinkles.

Wallpaper always starts to glue from above, moving down, from the middle to the edges of the panel

When several canvases have already been pasted, then each subsequent seam of the wallpaper will have to be additionally rolled with a roller. The piece of wallpaper that remains below should be carefully cut off. It is recommended to do this after the wallpaper has dried. By the way, estimate that the plinth completely covers the place where the wallpaper is cut.

It is important! Many hardware stores today sell wallpaper in a meter width, which is non-standard for us. But the meter width has its advantages, because it simplifies the pasting process.

Among the many options for wall decoration, wallpaper occupies a leading position. They come in a wide variety of styles, textures, designs and colors. The most practical option is non-woven fabrics, with which the gluing process is greatly simplified, small flaws and irregularities of the base surface are hidden. Gluing non-woven wallpaper is not at all difficult, we suggest understanding the intricacies of this process.

Types of non-woven wallpaper

Almost any hardware store can offer a whole range of wallpapers containing interlining:

  • Fully non-woven. Moisture and fire resistant, poorly flammable, strong, durable, airtight type of canvases. Can be single or multilayer. A common version of non-woven wallpaper, designed for painting after pasting or decoration.
  • Paper on a non-woven basis. Differ in high air permeability, low price. Thanks to rolling through a press, they have three-dimensional patterns.
  • Vinyl on non-woven backing. A PVC coating is applied to the substrate, which allows you to create unique textures, an abundance of patterns. The surface can be foamed or hard, which determines the relief and density. Such wallpapers are immune to sunlight, mechanical damage, moisture, but they do not pass air well.
  • Textile on non-woven base. The role of the top cover is natural linen, cotton, silk. In addition to the original, aesthetically attractive appearance, they provide additional sound insulation, and the joints of the strips are invisible.
  • Hot stamping wallpaper. A subspecies of vinyl canvases based on non-woven fabric. The use of a special technology allows you to create volumetric patterns that mimic fabric or leather. An example of such a finishing material is in the photo below.

Features of working with non-woven wallpaper

  1. The surface of the walls must be leveled, have a solid color, otherwise you can spoil the appearance of the finished finish. By the way, if the wall is a little uneven, thanks to the dense structure of the wallpaper, such a flaw can be hidden.
  2. The adhesive composition is applied only to the surface of the wall. So it is possible to significantly speed up and simplify the work, reduce the consumption of glue.
  3. It is necessary to stick wallpaper strips end-to-end, without overlap. So, it is possible to create a single canvas, on which there will be no bulges and seams. If there is a pattern on the material, it is important to monitor its coincidence.

Due to the fact that non-woven wallpaper rolls are often produced wide (up to 140 cm wide), the number of seams is minimized.

Tools and materials

Before you start the process of pasting wallpaper with a non-woven base, you need to take care of the availability of certain improvised means. For work you need to prepare:

  • convenient wallpaper spatula for leveling pasted strips;
  • rubber roller;
  • several brushes of different sizes for applying glue to the wall;
  • adhesive composition designed for the selected type of wallpaper;
  • a container of a suitable volume for diluting glue;
  • a brush with which wrinkles are smoothed;
  • construction knife;
  • clean sponge;
  • plumb or flat bar;
  • nozzle-mixer on a drill;
  • a marker or pencil capable of writing on the surface of the wallpaper;
  • sharp scissors.

Proper wall preparation

In order for the newly created interior to serve in good faith, a number of preparatory measures must be carried out:

  1. We remove the old finish, clean the wall from dirt and dust. This is especially important if it has a dark color or a bright pattern. Rules for removing different types of coatings - in. Methods for removing paint -.
  2. We level the surface of the walls, clean the potholes, chips and cracks with sandpaper. We cover the work surface with putty. When choosing a wide wallpaper fabric, this is done especially carefully, otherwise it will not work to join the strips evenly.
  3. To improve adhesion, prevent the formation of mold after the putty dries, the walls are covered with a deep penetration primer. Further work can be started only after it dries.

The preparation steps are described in detail in, drywall is prepared according to the rules that can be found.

If we are talking about gluing textile wallpapers so that the surface does not differ from them in tone, it is recommended to use a waste paper substrate. Glue it horizontally so that the joints of the lining are not visible through the wallpaper.

Wall marking and wallpaper preparation

We recommend starting the markup from the most inconspicuous corner. If wallpaper is purchased with a width of 106 cm, measure 104 cm from the corner and draw a vertical line along the marks. It will become a guide for attaching the first of the strips.

On the drawn line, we measure the distance between the ceiling and the floor. Using sharp scissors or a clerical knife, cut off the wallpaper strip of the appropriate length. It is better to immediately perform cutting, given the need to combine the pattern.

Sticking technology

Work is performed in the following sequence:

  • Lubricate the rectangle marked on the surface of the wall with adhesive. We do it carefully, without omissions. A thicker layer should be applied to the corners.
  • Glue the first strip. It must be dry. We make sure that its edge clearly coincides with the drawn line. A small overlap is made on the ceiling baguette.

The presence of a gap between the floor surface and the wallpaper is considered non-critical; it will close with a plinth.

  • Use a clean rag or plastic spatula to press down the wallpaper. Smoothing movements are performed from the center to the edges, starting from the ceiling and gradually moving lower.
  • Similarly, we glue the remaining strips, focusing on the edges of the previous sheets. By shifting the sheets, we eliminate the cracks and overlays that have appeared. To remove excess glue, use a soft sponge, do not let it harden.

Non-woven wallpaper slides over the glue and does not wrinkle. After applying the canvas to the wall, it can be easily leveled and corrected for at least 10 minutes without compromising the quality of gluing.

Non-woven wallpaper is a modern finishing material that has proven itself well. With it, you can bring to life the most incredible design solutions. In addition, they can be pasted over the walls of all rooms of the apartment, including those with high humidity. However, non-standard sizes of wallpaper for Russia (wide sheet size, 2 times larger) and another, different from paper wallpaper, gluing technology, require careful study of how to glue non-woven wallpaper on your own.

Non-woven wallpaper is a multilayer non-woven material made of modified cellulose fibers (70%) and binders (30%), which also contain additives of polyester fibers.

Unlike plain paper, this type of material has high fire resistance, tear strength and abrasion resistance. In appearance, it resembles paper of a white or yellowish color, in structure - fiberglass, to the touch - elastic fabric.

In the production of tapestries, interlining can be used in combination with other types of wallpaper material: vinyl and paper. In everyday life, it is also customary to consider them as non-woven wallpaper. But these are independent types of wallpaper:

  • non-woven vinyl wallpaper;
  • wallpaper for painting, where the bottom layer is non-woven, the top one is paper.

Classics are considered light, smooth wallpaper from only non-woven fabric. They will be discussed below.

Advantages and disadvantages

Non-woven wallpaper has many advantages:

  • have a huge number of design solutions;
  • durable, thanks to which they have a long service life;
  • have high moisture resistance, which allows you to do wet cleaning not only of the floor, but also of the walls (can be washed using special tools);
  • do not absorb odors;
  • dense, easily hide minor flaws on the wall surface (microcracks, roughness);
  • vapor-permeable, which makes it possible to paste them over any premises (entrance hall, children's room, bathroom, etc.);
  • environmentally friendly;
  • do not support combustion with an open flame (have a high level of fire safety);
  • elastic - stretch when the glued surface is deformed (shrinkage, microcracks, etc.), which is important for newly built houses;
  • do not fade under the influence of ultraviolet rays;
  • easily removed for replacement
  • technological:
  1. applying glue to the wall greatly simplifies the pasting process (wallpaper sheets do not get wet from the adhesive mass, which makes it easy to join them and customize the pattern);
  2. can be glued on any substrate (concrete, cement and gypsum plaster or putty, wood, drywall);
  3. having a width of 1.06 m (standard for Russia), they reduce the number of seams, which reduces the time for gluing tapestries on the wall;

There are also disadvantages:

  • high price (the cost of 1 roll is about 1.0 thousand rubles, which makes them inaccessible when repairing the entire apartment for people with low incomes);
  • transparency - even the inscription on the GKL shines through them, not to mention the color spots on the wall;
  • retain traces of glue that has fallen on the front side.

Surface preparation

The quality and durability of wall decoration with modern types of wallpaper is largely determined by the level of surface preparation. First of all, this applies to non-woven trellises, although there is another point of view among non-professionals that they can be glued to old wallpaper.

From a technological point of view, such an approach is possible - the non-woven fabric is light and the glue will always keep it on the tapestries that have served their time. But from the aesthetic side, such a finishing option is impossible - through the newly pasted sheets, the old pattern will be very clearly visible, unless of course the previous wallpaper is plain, with a light color scheme.

The whole process of preparing walls for wallpapering is discussed in detail in the work “How to prepare walls for wallpapering”. Let us briefly recall what was discussed there.

Before finishing the apartment with wallpaper, you must perform the following work in sequence:

  1. clean the walls of old finishes and, if necessary, of plaster;
  2. repair the formed microcracks, delaminations, shells, etc.;
  3. prime the surface;
  4. level uneven walls with cement-sand or dry (drywall, plywood, etc.) plaster;
  5. putty the surface of the plaster;
  6. treat the surface on which the tapestries are glued with a primer.

Tools and materials

Sticking non-woven wallpaper requires the presence in the workplace:

  • rolls of non-woven tapestries;
  • specialized wallpaper glue for interlining;
  • plumb or laser level;
  • roulettes for 3 m;
  • regulations;
  • wide metal spatula;
  • a knife with a removable blade;
  • a simple pencil;
  • hand towels;
  • cuvettes for glue or a special mesh for removing excess glue from the roller if it is dipped into a container with glue;
  • a pile roller (foam rubber unevenly applies glue to the wall);
  • a rubber roller for rolling wallpaper (you can use a special plastic spatula for tapestries);
  • cone-shaped roller for processing joints;
  • foam rubber sponges;
  • plastic bucket for clean water.

Wallpaper preparation

After the type of wallpaper is selected for each room, the color and pattern that fit into the overall design solution for the interior of the apartment, finishing material is purchased. Here it is very important to take all the tubes of the same article and one change of release, so as not to get the problem of different shades in different wallpaper rolls.

Quantity calculation

When calculating the number of rolls needed for repairs, you cannot use special tables, where, based on the perimeter of the room and the height of the ceiling, the required number of tubes is given - non-woven wallpaper has a different width.

The calculation begins with determining the area of the walls (the length of the wall is multiplied by the height and all the results are summed up). From the result obtained, the area of \u200b\u200bdoor and window openings is subtracted. The resulting number is divided by the area of 1 roll.

With dimensions of 10x1.06 m, the area of one tube is 10.6 m 2. However, experts do not take into account the decimal value of the indicator and divide by 10. To the result obtained, 1 roll per room is added for pasting corners, door and window openings and 1 tube for every 6 rolls, if necessary, adjusting the pattern.

Glue preparation

The durability and quality of wall decoration with non-woven wallpaper directly depends on the type of adhesive chosen. He must:

  • have good adhesion to trellises;
  • diluted to a thick consistency, which allows it to be applied in a thin layer without smudges;
  • do not leave marks when dry - do not turn yellow.

Only specialized glue satisfies such requirements - universal even light non-woven trellises hold poorly. We note here that there are two types of special glue: for light and heavy wallpaper.

Attention: heavy tapestries are represented by vinyl with a non-woven backing (vinyl tapestries). Therefore, here we are only talking about glue for light (purely non-woven) types of wallpaper.

Which glue to choose

On the shelves of hardware stores you can see a huge variety of brands of wallpaper glue for interlining. But, due to the lack of reliable information about the quality characteristics of unfamiliar brands, it is better to buy well-known brands.

The cheapest glue from recognizable brands, which is due to Russian origin (250 g package from 200 rubles, 500 g from 399 rubles). Suitable for all types of non-woven trellis, including heavy vinyl wallpaper.

Provides good sliding of a sheet of wallpaper on the wall during docking. Contains additives against mold and fungus. Can be stored undiluted for up to a week. At the same time, it also has disadvantages:

  • poorly bred - it is difficult to obtain a homogeneous mass;
  • not suitable for tapestries with a three-dimensional pattern - it requires tight rolling, which cannot be done with a rubber roller on embossed wallpaper (a wallpaper spatula cannot provide such an effort).

A product of the famous German company Henkel. It is made from methylcellulose and natural resins, which provide reliable adhesion of all types of non-woven wallpaper to various types of walls (gypsum board, concrete, cork, brick, etc.). Easily bred.

Does not leave stains when it gets on the front side. It has an important feature: it must be diluted to a more liquid consistency than indicated on the package, as it dries quickly. It is in the middle price category - a pack of 250 g from 290 rubles. up to 350 rubles, a package weighing 500 g from 535 rubles.

"Quelyd Special interlining". Produced in France. It has the highest price among all brands of glue for non-woven wallpaper (a package of 450 g costs from 360 rubles). However, the price is fully consistent with the quality - professional finishers consider it an ideal tool for gluing tapestries:

  • perfectly holds light and heavy wallpapers, with a smooth and voluminous pattern;
  • easy to breed;
  • does not smell;
  • does not flow down the wall during spreading;
  • does not leave marks when it gets on the front side, etc.

The PUFAS range of adhesives for wallpaper with non-woven base (5 types on sale) provides better adhesion between the tapestries and the wall surface. It has a color indication, which helps with spreading - no gaps are allowed. When buying glue of this brand, you can choose a product for specific wallpapers: smooth, corrugated, light, heavy.

How to calculate the number of packs of glue

An important feature of the glue for non-woven trellises is that the packaging indicates its consumption not for the number of wallpaper rolls, but for the wall area in m 2. Therefore, the calculation is made a little differently.

First, the area of \u200b\u200bthe walls to be pasted is determined. Then the result is divided by the consumption in m 2 indicated on the package. The result is rounded up.

How to breed

To dilute the glue you will need:

  • capacity for 10-12 liters (plastic bucket, basin or bowl);
  • warm (40-45 ° C) water (it will not dissolve in cold water, it will curl up in insoluble lumps in hot water);
  • an object with which you can stir the glue (stick, whisk, mixer, electric drill, etc.);
  • a tablespoon or measuring cup (an error of only 50 g of powdered mass leads to a complete marriage - the mixture is poured into the toilet).

The instruction is simple:

  1. warm water is poured into the basin (bucket) in the volume specified in the instructions - no more, no less;
  2. the required amount of the powdered mixture is measured;
  3. water is stirred until a funnel is formed with a stick or hand (power tools cannot form a funnel);
  4. glue slowly pours into the center of swirling water;
  5. in this way, the glue is stirred for another minute after the entire dry mixture has been in the water;
  6. further stirring is desirable to carry out with a mixer or a drill with a nozzle - they will break all the small lumps, which is difficult to do manually;
  7. after the end of stirring, the glue is allowed to brew and swell (14-16 minutes is enough), during which time it will take on a working consistency - it will look like jelly or thick sour cream.

Professional finishers recommend adding another 200 ml of water and mixing thoroughly (thick glue dries quickly). Water must be added within half an hour after the start of stirring. If you violate this requirement, you get water with floating jelly-like clots. Everything, on this the resulting glue is ready for use.

Pasting instructions

How to glue non-woven wallpaper with your own hands? Step-by-step algorithm of work:

  • In the room where the work will be carried out, one day before they begin, airing is done, after which the windows and doors are tightly closed;
  • The height of the wall for pasting is measured;
  • Wallpaper sheets are cut to size or with a tolerance of 8-10 cm;
  • Wallpaper glue is being prepared;
  • The place to start work is determined - this type of wallpaper allows you to start work from anywhere, but it is better from a corner, stepping back 4-5 mm;
  • A vertical line is applied to the wall for gluing the first sheet a few mm from the corner;
  • The surface of the wall is smeared with a roller or brush with a thick layer of glue slightly wider than the size of the tapestries;
  • The first sheet is glued with an edge strictly along the applied line;
  • With a roller or wallpaper spatula, the canvas is rolled against the wall. Movements go from top to bottom, from the center of the sheet to its edges. When glue appears on the front side of the trellis, it is removed with a foam rubber sponge;
  • The next sheet is glued end-to-end (beginners can overlap wallpaper without a pattern - the seam is then cut with a knife and an inconspicuous connection of two sheets is formed). If the wallpaper did not lay down the first time strictly vertically or the pattern did not match, the tapestries can be torn off the wall and glued again - the material will not tear or stretch;
  • Excess glue and air are removed from under the wallpaper with a rubber roller. Since the interlining stretches a little, it is necessary to ensure that during rolling the edge of the web does not go over the previous sheet. The joint is rolled with a special narrow roller. If the edge of the wallpaper still lags behind - the glue has dried, then the wallpaper is removed from the wall, and it is re-smeared with glue.

Problems arise in the corners, due to the large width of the trellis. How to glue non-woven wallpaper when passing corners? Here the techniques are the same as when working with narrow trellises:

However, there is one caveat here. The cut off part of the wide wallpaper is not thrown away, but serves as the next sheet when pasting the corner, even if the width of the cut off part of the tapestries is only 15-20 cm.

The issue of passing corners is considered in detail in the work "".

How long does non-woven trellis dry

Many apartment owners tend to ventilate the pasted premises immediately after the completion of work. However, this cannot be done - drafts will lead to peeling off the wallpaper at the joints and in the corners, the most problematic places.

How long can you ventilate the room after finishing work? To answer, you need to figure out how long non-woven wallpaper dries after gluing. Manufacturers of non-woven tapestries write that their complete drying occurs within 12 hours. Practice refutes this statement - the wallpaper dries for 24-28 hours.

Attention: do not confuse with the drying time of non-woven wallpaper. It can be up to 3 days.

Finally

As can be seen from the above material, there is no difference in how to glue meter-long non-woven wallpaper with your own hands and narrow trellises. There are deviations only because of the material from which the wallpaper is made.

The variety of textures and sizes, reliability and practicality, the convenience and simplicity of the pasting process have made non-woven wallpaper a leader in wall finishing materials. Particularly popular are canvases, conditionally called meter-long, whose width is 90-140 cm, in contrast to the standard 53 cm. Master finishers admit that gluing meter-long non-woven wallpaper is a pleasure. Due to the structure of non-woven material made of cellulose fibers bonded with a polymer, they do not stretch, do not tear and easily glide over the work surface.

Advantages of wide non-woven fabrics

Meter non-woven wallpaper has a number of important advantages over other finishing materials due to the combination of composition and increased width.

  • Such coatings are sometimes referred to as "seamless", since the number of strips glued to the wall is less than in the standard version. Consequently, the number of joints is reduced. The relief surface of the material additionally helps to make the seams almost invisible.
  • Installation of meter-long sheets saves time, since fewer strips have to be marked, cut, applied, adjusted and joined.
  • The price of one wide roll is not equal to the cost of two standard ones, which means that the cost of material and repairs is generally reduced.

Some disadvantages and inconveniences

Along with the advantages, it is worth identifying several disadvantages of this type of wall covering, which turn into inconvenience during installation.

  • The main inconvenient moment: despite the fact that non-woven wallpaper is able to mask minor defects and flaws in the working surface, for finishing with meter-long canvases, you will have to properly and efficiently prepare. If there are differences on the surface, there will be problems with joining the sheets.
  • Working with wide canvases alone is difficult and tiring, especially when pasting the ceiling.
  • It is more difficult to calculate and fit meter-long wallpapers, taking into account complex areas, than standard ones. The lack of a couple of centimeters in width will entail the purchase of an additional roll.
  • Before gluing wide canvases, you will have to align the corners and transitions between the wall and the ceiling. With curved connections of surfaces, it is not an easy task to dock non-woven meter-long coatings.

Tools and materials

The bonding of non-woven fabrics must occur quickly in order to prevent the glue from drying out. So, it is worth worrying about the necessary materials and tools in advance. An example list looks like this:

  • special wallpaper glue for non-woven fabric, diluted and aged according to the instructions;
  • paint brushes or roller for applying adhesive solution;
  • rubber roller for leveling cloths and removing air;
  • sponge or dry rag for excess glue;
  • sharp knife (wallpaper or clerical);
  • pencil and tape measure;
  • table (ladder).

Surface preparation

The stages of rough finishing for pasting with meter-long non-woven wallpaper are standard, but they are carried out with particular care. The surface should be smooth, dry, clean and uniform.

  • The working space is freed from sockets, switches, electrical appliances, the previous finish is completely removed. How to remove different types of old coatings, read.
  • Detected foci of fungus or mold are treated with an antibacterial composition.
  • Irregularities are puttied, after drying they are rubbed with sandpaper.

Note! If the glued wallpaper is not planned to be painted, the surface color will have to be leveled, otherwise you can get a surprise in the form of spots translucent through the translucent interlining.

  • The final step to improve adhesion is applied one or two coats of primer.

Advice! If the area of the room and the height of the ceiling allow, it is better to quickly level the surfaces, joints and corners with drywall.

The preparation of GKL for wallpapering is described in detail in.

Marking and cutting canvases

Non-woven meter-long wallpapers are glued only end-to-end. To simplify the work, it is better to pre-mark the surface and cut the required number of strips.

  • Experts recommend starting pasting from the corner. From the chosen starting point, a distance of two to three centimeters less than the width of the roll is measured. A straight vertical line is drawn. For example, with a panel width of 106 cm, the distance from the corner to the marking line will be 104 cm.
  • Then, with vertical lines along the width of the wallpaper, the surface is marked up to the next corner.
  • Since whole meter strips are not glued into the corners, from the resulting extreme line the roulette is wound around the corner by 2 cm, markings are applied, then (to the next corner) the width of the panel is measured from this line.
  • Whole strips of the desired length are cut with a margin of up to 10 cm each. They will be neatly trimmed after the wallpaper dries. If a ceiling plinth is used in the design, it is necessary to leave an allowance only at the bottom - 2-3 cm is enough.
  • In the same way, stripes are cut out for the corners of the required width, obtained during marking.

Gluing process

When the surface is prepared, dried and marked, the panels are cut, the inventory is selected, we proceed to pasting.

Pay attention to the room temperature. Drafts and dry air should be avoided while working with wallpaper and for about a day after they are finished.

  • With a paint brush or roller, glue is applied to the wall with a slight overhang of the marking line.
  • A dry non-woven fabric is applied, aligned along the wall-ceiling junction and at the same time aligned with the vertical line.

Important! When working with non-woven coatings, there is the possibility of adjustment and adjustment: a 10-minute margin of time until the adhesive solution has completely set. Therefore, for independent work, it is not recommended to use a quick-drying composition.

  • The strip is pressed tightly in the center, then leveled with a special roller. The movements are reminiscent of drawing a Christmas tree: from the center to the sides and at the same time from top to bottom. Excess glue that has come out can be removed with a sponge or cloth.
  • Each subsequent non-woven fabric is tightly fitted and joined with the glued one.
  • The resulting overlap in the corners is cut in the middle, the extra strips of wallpaper are removed, resulting in a smooth, imperceptible seam.

Pasting difficult areas

The technology for pasting straight sections with non-woven wallpaper is simple. Difficulties are usually caused by such "uncomfortable" places as the surface of the wall behind the radiator, openings and external corners.

No matter how good the wallpaper in a roll looks, their place is in the decoration of the room, so you still have to learn how to glue vinyl wallpaper on a non-woven base.

But you should not be afraid - working with these wallpapers is very simple. Despite the relatively high cost, these wallpapers are not only in stable demand, but are also rapidly gaining popularity.

There are many explanations for this - among them there is also a “novelty effect” - after all, the material appeared on the market relatively recently, but there are also objective factors - the quality of the coating is quite consistent with the price.

Pros and cons of a combination of vinyl plus interlining

Formally, these wallpapers do not consist of two, but of three layers - the non-woven base carries two layers - opaque, designed to hide the color unevenness of the walls and decorative vinyl ().

A huge variety of textures (including those imitating other materials) and patterns of such wallpapers allows you to implement quite bold design solutions.

One of the main advantages of using a non-woven base is considered to be the ease of gluing. Although from a practical point of view, wallpapers have many other advantages:

  • density and elasticity - allows the wallpaper to hide the defects in the relief of the walls, up to small cracks;
  • tensile strength;
  • resistance to abrasion and fading;
  • durability;
  • do not create problems during care - both dry and wet cleaning is acceptable;
  • high level of noise absorption;
  • no deformation - the wallpaper does not tend to stretch and shrink under the influence of moisture.

More often they are sold meter long - in this article.

Does this finish have any disadvantages? The main negative point is associated with the likelihood of obtaining a vapor-tight, and sometimes a surface of the walls that emit harmful substances.

However, this only disadvantage of vinyl wallpaper can be practically nullified, remembering to regularly ventilate the room.

Preparation of materials and tools

So, a very pleasant stage - the choice and purchase of wallpaper is completed. What else is needed to realize the idea of decorating a room?

First, you need a special glue. It is desirable that it be specifically for non-woven coatings (Flizelin Premium, Special Non-woven).

And secondly, you should make sure that at the right time you have at hand:

  • a paint roller and a flat brush (several brushes of different sizes are possible) - for applying glue;
  • rubber roller and wallpaper spatula - for smoothing wallpaper;
  • a bucket of at least 10 liters - for the preparation of an adhesive solution;
  • scissors and a construction knife;
  • plumb;
  • a few soft rags and sponges.

If the wallpaper has a regular pattern and there is a need to combine adjacent layers, then you can use a table of a suitable size for cutting, or you can cut and fit the wallpaper directly on the floor, of course, if you are sure that it is clean.

Pasting the room - the main stages

And now it's time to see in practice how easy it is to glue non-woven wallpaper (compared to paper, for example). Having decided to do it yourself, you should adhere to the algorithm:

Step 1 - preparing the walls for pasting

Not the most "clean", but an uncomplicated stage, including simple steps:

  • , plaster and wallpaper. You may need additional tools and tools: a drill, a hammer, special liquids for removing wallpaper;
  • removal of wall switches and sockets;
  • primer. Performs many tasks: leveling and lightening the color of the wall, giving strength to the putty (if it was applied), antifungal treatment of the wall. For non-woven wallpaper, you can use their “native” glue as a primer by preparing a solution of a weak consistency.

Leveling the cleaned surface. Non-woven wallpaper can smooth out bumps, but if there is a serious height difference of more than 1 cm,. If there are few irregularities, you can choose a more expensive and easy-to-use polymer putty;

Step 2 - marking the walls and cutting the wallpaper

It will be necessary to mark the walls in any case, but it is not always necessary to cut the wallpaper in advance:

  • marking on the wall of the starting point. Start pasting from the edge of the window opening, it is there that you should draw a vertical line with a plumb line;
  • wallpaper cutting. To do this, the height of the walls is measured, 10 cm of margin is added to the resulting value. It is this length that each cut piece of wallpaper should be;
  • pattern matching. If the details of the picture need to be combined, then first you need to cut a piece from one roll, and then pick up a “pair” from the other for it. This will avoid unnecessary material consumption.

Good news for those who have purchased wallpaper with a chaotic texture, without an ordered pattern: they can do without preliminary cutting at all, gluing the wallpaper directly from the roll - the strength and elasticity of this type of wallpaper create the conditions for this pasting method. A small overlap is made on the ceiling, which is later cut off with a knife, and the bottom of the wallpaper is cut under the plinth or along it.

Step 3 - Creating the Finish Coat

Directly work with wallpaper and glue:

  • adhesive preparation. The purchased ready-made mixture is diluted with water in accordance with the instructions. An important point - if you can’t exactly maintain the proportions, or you don’t want to, it is preferable to make the solution thicker, i.e. put more powder, this will only improve the adhesive properties;
  • applying glue. The non-woven wallpaper base allows you to make this stage as simple as possible - the glue is simply applied to the wall with a roller, you do not need to cover the wallpaper with it;
  • gluing the first sheet. Regardless of whether the wallpaper is pasted in a separate piece or straight from the roll, you need to align the vertical edge of the wallpaper with the starting marking line. Start gluing from top to bottom, it is convenient to work with an assistant who will support a heavy canvas. Smooth with a roller or spatula from the center to the edge of the canvas, squeezing out air and excess glue, this will allow you to get a wall without bubbles;
  • combining and gluing the second and subsequent sheets. All sheets after the first one are glued end-to-end to the previous one (with an approximate overlap, a gap of up to 1 mm is possible, which will disappear when smoothed), overlap is not needed here. The joints are ironed with a roller, it is better to remove excess glue as quickly as possible with a damp cloth or sponge.

In the process of applying the adhesive, it is important not to rush, not to save the solution and cover with it only that section of the wall where the wallpaper will be pasted right now. If it didn’t work out exactly the first time, then the wallpaper can be removed and re-placed without compromising the quality of the resulting coating.

As you can see, gluing these wallpapers correctly is not difficult at all. However, in any room, in addition to smooth walls, there are such “obstacles” as corners, baseboards, radiators and electrical outlets.

A small brush can be used to coat hard-to-reach places with glue.

It is better to start wallpapering in the corners, having acquired at least some experience, but if you don’t have it, then at least carefully read the following recommendations:

  1. If the walls in the room are fairly even, and the corner is located so that it attracts attention, then the canvases are placed without overlap. To do this, the piece of wallpaper that is pasted first is wound around the corner with a margin of 2 cm. The next one is simply combined with it butt-to-butt.
  2. If the walls and corners do not allow the wallpaper to lay down flawlessly, you can glue the first layer in the same way as option 1. Since the corner is uneven, the overlap will be different. Where it is narrowest, you should retreat from the edge of the wallpaper towards the corner by 1 cm. From this point, measure away from the corner a value equal to the width of the roll. Here draw a vertical line along the level, it will be the edge of the next layer of wallpaper. Thus, an overlap of about 1 cm is formed.
  3. You can glue wallpaper in the corners using such a common and fairly effective method as double cutting (cutting) the corner. To do this, the strips adjacent to the corner are glued alternately with a large overlap - up to 5 cm. The wallpaper is carefully “imprinted” into the corner. Then use a rigid profile (ruler or rail) located in the center of the corner in order to cut the wallpaper along the line. After trimming, the excess is removed, and the edges of the wallpaper are smeared with glue and ironed with a rubber roller.

But what about sockets? It is advisable to turn them off (as well as switches) for the time of pasting and remove them together with the boxes.

Their locations should be marked with a cross, cut along the same lines and bend the resulting corners inward. The boxes can be returned to their places once the glue has dried.

And the richness of texture and color solutions allows you to independently create a unique and integral design of the room, where the design of the walls will be in harmony with both the floor and ceiling decoration and the interior details.
