How to hang metal horizontal blinds. How to hang a roller blind on a plastic window

When choosing blinds, they take into account not only their external design, but also the functional purpose of the room in which they are to be used, the style and operating conditions of the room. The last point is especially important, because the material of manufacture can be different: bamboo, fabric, aluminum.

In order to avoid difficulties during the installation process, it is necessary to correctly measure the window opening - this will allow you to purchase a product of the required size or order it correctly from a blinds manufacturing company.

Features and purpose of blinds

The main characteristic of blinds is simple installation, in which the products are quickly and easily fixed in the window opening. Convenient control process allows you to effectively change the level of illumination of the room.

When choosing blinds, you should decide not only on the appearance and material of the blinds, but also on the way they are fixed on the plastic window so that their operation is as efficient as possible.

The main element of the blinds is the slats. They can be:

  1. Vertical or horizontal.
  2. Rolled or pleated.
  3. Fabric, plastic, wood, aluminum.

Location is different:

  1. Inside the window opening - in the overlay.
  2. On the sash of a plastic window.
  3. Above the window opening. Fixation is made to the wall.

Note! When choosing between the first and second fixing methods, the width of the window sill and the depth of the window opening are taken into account. In the third case, the window opening is completely closed.

More about types of blinds

The main function is to protect rooms and furniture from direct sunlight. Traditional curtains can also cope with this task, but the advantage of blinds in this case is that they do not interfere with the circulation of fresh air, and also allow you to adjust the intensity of illumination in the room in a wide range - from complete darkness to filling the room with sunlight. It does not require much effort.

Blinds can be used in many modern and some classic styles. Most of all, they correspond to the trends of minimalist interiors - they allow you to rationally use free space, do not require much space, and are easy to operate and maintain.

Table 1. The most common types of blinds

IllustrationDescription

A practical option, securely close the room from prying eyes and sunlight. Fixed to the wall or window sash. The second method is more practical, since it does not affect the functionality (opening, closing) of the window system. More often, these blinds are made in the form of thin aluminum lamellas, so they are popular in rooms with high humidity - in the bathroom and in the kitchen. The movement of a cloth is possible only up/down. The intensity of illumination is regulated by the mobility of the slats.

Represented by fabric vertically arranged lamellas of the same width. They are fixed to the wall in such a way that it is possible to open the sash for ventilation. The control method involves not only changing the angle of the slats, but also shifting them to the left, right or in both directions (like a curtain).

Represented by a solid, dense canvas, shading the room. When opened, the canvas is twisted into a roll. Used with light curtains.

A practical option that involves installing the box in the frame, which does not interfere with the free opening of the window sashes.

Self-installation of blinds

One of the advantages of blinds is that you can install them yourself. However, before it comes to this, it is necessary to correctly measure the window opening in order to purchase a product with the desired parameters. Measurements are affected by the chosen method of fixation:

  1. When fastening to the overlay, 10 cm are added to the obtained value of the width and height of the window opening.
  2. When installed inside the window opening, the height is taken in its pure form, and 1.5 cm is subtracted from the width.
  3. When fixing in the sash, 2 cm are subtracted from its width, and 3 cm from its height.

Note! The ease of use of blinds depends on the location of the control mechanism. If it is intended to install products in both doors, then the cords of different halves should be located on the right and left so that they do not interfere with each other.

Screw fixing is the most reliable, but it is not suitable if a periodic change in the method of curtaining is expected. After all, after drilling, holes remain on the surface of the window profile. In this case, fixing on screws to the wall is chosen.

Measurement

When installed in a window opening, a total of 4 cm is subtracted from its width (2 on each side) - this value corresponds to the width of the blinds. Their height is calculated as follows: H of the window opening - 2 cm. It is necessary to provide for a gap between the upper edge of the window and the blinds so that they do not interfere with its opening.

For installation outside the window opening, when the room is completely darkened and the window is completely closed, the width of the product is taken as the width of the window opening with the addition of 5 cm on each side. 10 cm are added to the height of the window opening.

When installed in the sash, they open together with the fixed blinds. Their width corresponds to the width of the double-glazed window with the addition of 1.5 cm to each side. It is important that the blinds do not interfere with the free movement of the window handle.

When the window is located in the same plane with the wall, metal brackets are used to fix the blinds, allowing them to be placed at some distance from the window. To the width of the blinds add 10 cm on each side.

High-quality fixing of the blinds will allow the use of dowels and screws that correspond to the parameters of the fasteners used. It is also worth considering the material of the walls and ceiling, if the fastening will be carried out to them.

Note! Before you start drilling holes for fasteners, it is important to make sure that when folded, the blinds installed in the chosen way will not interfere with the free opening of the window. You should also make sure that objects on the windowsill, heating devices and structural elements will not interfere with the correct functioning of the blinds.

Of the main methods of fastening, there are:

  1. drilling.
  2. Fixation with double-sided tape.
  3. Fixation with magnets.
  4. Bracket fixing.

Installation of horizontal blinds

Horizontal blinds are sold complete with a complete set of fasteners and fittings. To install them, you only need a screwdriver. But first you need to choose the color of the product.

Then the window opening is measured.

After manufacturing or purchasing a product in a store, proceed to install it.

In some cases, it may be necessary to adjust the product in width or length. To correct the lamellas in width, an equal distance is marked on both sides. The slats are cut with scissors, and the cornice and rail with a hacksaw.

In order to shorten the canvas, it is necessary to untie the knots under the lower guide and remove excess fragments. Then the lower guide is fixed in place, the canvas is leveled, the cords are tied and the plugs are placed.

Installation of vertical blinds

The design of vertical structures is much more diverse than that of horizontal ones. There are many color variations, lamellas with a pattern, patterns and photo printing, multi-layer designs. The advantage is that such blinds can be hung on openings of large size and irregular shape - for example, when making beveled window openings in the attic.

The main structural elements are: cornice, runners, lamellas and chains. Window measurements are made after the method of fastening the structure is chosen - to the wall or to the ceiling.

The slats are attached to the runners.

If necessary, the length of the lamellas can be easily adjusted. To do this, they are cut, guided by the instructions on the package. The width of the slats is adjusted by removing excess fragments and trimming the eaves with a hacksaw.

When choosing the material for the manufacture of lamellas, the operating conditions in the room are taken into account.

Installation of roller blinds

When installing roller blinds, there are several ways to fix them. Traditional - on self-tapping screws and alternative - on double-sided tape or clip-holder, which is installed on the sash.

Externally, roller blinds are represented by a smooth canvas, which is twisted when raised into a roll. The canvas is quite dense, so it perfectly obscures the room. The width of roller blinds can be different, but it is more convenient to mount on each sash so that the accessory does not interfere with the normal functioning of the window.

Mounting can be done without drilling. To do this, a compact upper shaft with a leaf is fixed to a special bearing element fixed to the sash. From below the cloth is fixed by means of magnets.

Note! When installing roller blinds, take into account the distance that the window handle protrudes - it should not protrude through the canvas. Therefore, fastening is carried out using brackets that form a sufficient distance between the sash and the curtain.

Not many people know that blinds were invented several centuries ago. Today it is one of the most popular decorative and protective devices for windows. The article will discuss how to independently hang blinds on plastic windows. You will be able to find out what types of window multi-leaf curtains are and how to properly install vertical and horizontal blinds.

Kinds

Blinds- one of the types of window curtains, devices in the form of rigid, arranged parallel to each other and adjustable plates, made of various materials - fabric, wood, metal, plastic. They have several functions:

  • protect from light
  • decorate the window
  • regulate air flow.
There are several types of blinds. The most common of them are:
  • horizontal;
  • vertical;
  • roll;
  • pleated.
Let's take a look at the advantages and disadvantages of each type.

Did you know? The official history of the invention of blinds begins in 1841. It was in this year that their production was patented by the American John Hampton, although the production of rigid curtains was carried out before. So, since the 1760s, they were produced in Philadelphia by the Englishman John Webster.

Horizontal

Horizontal or Venetian blinds are thin plates (lamellas) that are arranged one above the other like a ladder. They are interconnected by a cord that allows you to open and close them, as well as adjust the height. The plates are controlled by a rotary rod. Lamels can be made of different materials - wood, metal, bamboo, fabric.

The main advantages of these types of curtains are:

  • good sun protection
  • increased heat transfer;
  • the ability to control the intensity of lighting;
  • reliability;
  • durability;
  • ease of maintenance and operation;
  • the ability to visually expand the size of the room;
  • easy installation;
  • the ability to use for any premises, including kitchen, bath, balcony;
  • low cost.
There are no downsides to horizontal blinds. They can be present only depending on the material from which they are made. We will discuss them in more detail in a separate section below.

vertical

Vertical blinds appeared somewhat later than horizontal ones - in 1960. However, they quickly gained popularity and today are successfully used to decorate various rooms.

These are plastic, metal or fabric lamellas suspended on a cornice in a vertical position parallel to each other and connected at the bottom with a cord. They are regulated by a side mechanism that rotates the plates - with the help of a decorative cord (chain) they turn, with the help of a rope they move in one direction, fully or partially opening the window.

The advantages of vertical blinds are:

  • versatility - the ability to install in window openings, to the ceiling, to the wall above the window, installation in skylights and ordinary windows;
  • ease of installation;
  • ease of care;
  • effective regulation of the flow of sunlight;
  • good air access when dimming;
  • the possibility of combining with ordinary curtains;
  • the ability to visually increase the height of the room.
Among the shortcomings should be mentioned:
  • inconvenience when shifting to the side when opening the window;
  • the impossibility of placing flowers on the windowsill when fastened to the window opening.

Rolled

Roller blinds have recently entered the field of view of modern apartment design. Preference is given to them by those who love coziness and comfort in the house. It is they who are able to create them in the bedroom, living room and kitchen. In addition, the appearance of roller blinds is more attractive than other types, while the functionality also remains on top.

They are designed in the form of a horizontal shaft, on which a roll of fabric is wound, and a control mechanism in the form of a cord, a spring holder or an electric drive. The fabric can be lowered and raised to the desired length, completely or partially closing the window. Roller blinds are mounted in the window opening, on the ceiling or on the wall, on the window sash.

The advantages of roller blinds are:

  • ease of operation;
  • ease of care - the fabric is impregnated with dust and water-repellent composition;
  • the possibility of implementing any design idea;
  • durability;
  • good protection from sunlight and overheating of the room;
  • the ability to create any degree of illumination of the room;
  • environmental friendliness;
  • ergonomics;
  • possibility of installation on skylights;
  • when installed on each sash, there is no interference with opening windows and decorating the window sill;
  • the possibility of making curtains from transparent materials.

The disadvantages include the price, which is much higher than the more familiar and common horizontal and vertical designs, as well as the fragility of the spring holder.

Cassette blinds are one of the types of roller blinds. This is an option designed for plastic windows. It is assumed that the slats or a fabric roll are hidden in a specially designed box (cassette) attached to the window sash when closing.

This design allows you to save space, free the window and window sill, additionally protect the material from dust, dirt, and deformation. Cassette options are made of fabric, bamboo, aluminum, plastic. There are three types of cassettes: round, angled and flat.

Pleated

Another option for fabric blinds is pleated blinds. As the name already implies, these are fabric curtains assembled in a small fold. Their choice is huge and is represented by various colors, density of fabric material, shapes. Some of them are sewn according to a special pattern.

Thanks to this, pleated curtains can fit into any interior, creating an original atmosphere. This option is a piece of fabric, which is attached to a special profile and is controlled by a chain, cord or electric drive.

Advantages of pleated blinds:

  • originality;
  • external attractiveness;
  • good functionality;
  • durability;
  • reliability;
  • miniature design;
  • the possibility of designing a window of any shape and from any material.

Original and sophisticated solutions in the interior are not complete without the use of multiimpressive blinds, i.е. those in which the lamellas are made of various materials using a variety of decor.

Varieties of material

As already mentioned, at different times the blinds were made from different textures. Today, the most common materials for window hard curtains are fabric, plastic and aluminum, less often wood. Each of them has both pluses and minuses.

fabric

Textile blinds- this is one of the best options for decorating windows and protecting the room from sunlight in apartments and houses. There are both horizontal and vertical designs.

Many people are drawn to the look and color options of fabric blinds, but are put off by the notion that they require the same maintenance as regular curtains. However, it is not.

Textiles for blinds are impregnated with special impregnations that prevent dirt, dust and moisture from being absorbed. Care will consist only in periodically wiping the material with a slightly damp cloth and vacuuming.
High-quality textile blinds do not fade, do not deform, fit into any interior, and are not too expensive. However, compared to metal, plastic and wooden structures, they have a shorter service life. Textile models are not the best option for the kitchen or catering establishments, as they can absorb odors.

Did you know? The first blinds were made from wooden plates. They were replaced by metal curtains. After World War II, fabrics were also used to make window guards.

Plastic

One of the most purchased types, due to its low price and the possibility of using it in various premises - office, apartment, public, utility, with high humidity. The polymers from which the lamellas are made can be with varying degrees of light transmission, various colors, with or without patterns. They are practical, lightweight, easy to install and maintain, and are sold at the best price.
Among the disadvantages:

  • creating noise in a draft, with open windows;
  • some polymers turn yellow under prolonged exposure to sunlight;
  • cannot be used near stoves and other heating devices due to poor resistance to fire;
  • release of toxic substances in case of fire.

Aluminum

Along with plastic, aluminum blinds are also popular. They have high strength, durability, fire resistance, ability to withstand different temperatures, moisture. They are often used to protect windows in public places, offices, medical institutions. They have an attractive price. They can be horizontal, vertical, cassette.

Among the shortcomings - a heavier weight, the creation of a noise effect in a draft.

Wooden

Wooden blinds are used in certain types of interiors, they go well with fabric curtains and natural wood furniture. They allow you to create a warm homely atmosphere. They are reliable, durable, durable, environmentally friendly, protect well from the sun. However, they are one of the most expensive options.

Installation technology

Blinds can be installed without the help of professionals. We offer you instructions for working with horizontal and vertical hard curtains.

Horizontal

Horizontal structures can be fixed in four ways:

  • to the ceiling;
  • to the wall above the window;
  • in the window opening;
  • to window sashes.
First you need to take measurements. The height and width of the window opening is measured with a tape measure. On a sheet of paper, it is necessary to draw a diagram of the window, on which measurements will be taken in the future.

When installing curtains in a window opening their size is calculated by subtracting 1 cm from the height, 2 cm from the width.

When installed above a window opening the size of the blinds is calculated based on the addition of 5-7 cm to its height and 20 cm to its width.

When attached to the sash the width is measured from the junction of the glazing bead with the window on the left side to the junction of the glazing bead with the window on the right side, adding 1 cm.

When measuring height on a blind window 3 cm is added to the distance from the glazing bead to the glazing bead, on the sash - 4 cm.

Video: how to measure horizontal blinds

Conventional horizontal blinds consist of the following elements:

  • upper part - swivel axle, rollers, cornice, brackets, cord retainer, swivel mechanism, top cover;
  • the middle part - lamellas and a plug;
  • lower part - lower cornice, side covers.
The following tools are required for installation:
  • screwdriver;
  • pencil;
  • screws.

The technology for mounting finished aluminum blinds on plastic windows is as follows:
  1. Straighten the structure.
  2. Remove control knob.
  3. Attach fasteners to the top bar.
  4. Attach the structure to the installation site and mark the places for attaching the brackets. The distance between them must be at least 60 cm.
  5. Attach the brackets to the wall, window frame or sash.
  6. Insert the top cornice into the brackets.
  7. Open the blinds and mark the places for attaching the lower clamps.
  8. Attach bottom fasteners.
  9. Insert adjusting knob.

Important!Care must be taken to ensure that the brackets do not get into the control mechanism, cord retainer or caliper..

Video: installing horizontal blinds

If the finished blinds are longer than necessary, they can be trimmed. To do this, remove the side and remove the lower latches from the bottom bar. Then pull out the knots of the cord from the two holes formed and untie them. Remove excess slats. Re-insert the cords into the holes of the bottom bar and tie knots. Return the lower and side clamps.

You can also shorten the blinds in width, but this is much more difficult to do. In order not to spoil the curtain, it is better to contact the master. For trimming, you need a hacksaw with fine teeth. The slats should be folded into one strip and sawn off to the required length. Then polish the ends with a file, if necessary - tint.

Installing roller blinds

To install roller blinds on a wall, in an opening or on a ceiling, you will need drilling and a drill or punch, depending on the material from which the ceiling and walls are made. Roller blinds are attached to plastic or wooden windows using double-sided tape and PVC staples without drilling.

If the blinds are attached to the sash, then to calculate their dimensions, you will need to know not only the width and height of the window, but also the depth of the glazing bead. The choice of system will depend on the latter size. With a bead depth of more than 1.5 cm, you need to pay attention to the Uni type system, up to 1.5 cm - Profil and Mini.
Add 3 cm to the width of the glass - this will be the width of the curtain. The length of standard curtains is about 2 m. If they are too long for your windows, they can be cut.

Important! The length of the roller blinds is calculated based on the fact that there must be at least 50 cm of fabric on the roll.

The technology for mounting roller blinds without drilling is as follows:

  1. Install a cap on one end of the roll, and a swivel mechanism with a plastic chain on the other.
  2. Insert the latch into the bracket and fasten it to the bracket.
  3. Install the brackets on the roll according to the instructions.
  4. Attach the curtain to the attachment point.
  5. Mark the mounting points for the brackets.
  6. Make sure that nothing prevents the opening of the curtains.
  7. Degrease the place of attachment of the brackets.
  8. Stick adhesive tape on the sash at the place where the bracket is attached.
  9. Degrease brackets.
  10. Peel off the protective tape of the tape.
  11. Hang the blinds by pressing the adhesive tape at the attachment point.

Video: how to install roller blinds

If you purchased a ready-made curtain, but it does not fit your window, then its size can be reduced. In order to shorten them in width, you will need to cut the roll, web and bottom rail. It is much easier to cut the fabric to length. The fabric is cut with ordinary scissors under the ruler, and then the bottom rail is attached to it.

Installation of cassette blinds

Cassette blinds are also attached with adhesive tape. In order to install them, you need:

  1. Print product.
  2. Degrease the attachment point to the window frame.
  3. Attach the cassette to the attachment point and lower the fabric to the lower position.
  4. Mark the location of the cassette attachment with a pencil.
  5. Remove the protective film from the adhesive tape attached to the back of the cassette.
  6. Attach the cassette to the frame, press and hold for a few seconds.
  7. Carefully remove the protective tape from the top edge of the metal fabric guides on both sides.
  8. Install the guides into the groove of the cassette of the shade body and press down.
  9. Gradually removing the protective layer of adhesive tape, press the guides parallel to the frame glazing bead.
  10. Do the same on the other side.
  11. Install a limiter.

vertical

Vertical curtains can be attached in three ways:

  • in the window opening;
  • to the wall above the window;
  • to the ceiling.
They can have left-hand, right-hand and central control. Below you will find instructions on how to install vertical rigid curtains on your own.

In the window opening

To calculate the dimensions, you need to measure the width of the window opening and subtract 1-1.5 cm. Measure the height of the opening and subtract 1.5-2 cm. Measurements must be taken 5-7 cm deep into the opening, since it usually narrows. To make sure that after installing the blinds the sash will open, you need to measure the distance from the top edge of the sash to the upper slope of the eaves installation point. The distance must be at least 4.5 cm. Otherwise, you will have to measure in the overlay. Because the window may be uneven, the width and height must be measured at three points.

You can attach vertical blinds to the window opening in this way:

  1. Mark the mounting points.
  2. Drill holes.
  3. Install brackets.
  4. Insert the cornice into the special grooves on the holders and snap the locks.
  5. Install fabric.
  6. Insert weights.
  7. Fasten the bottom chain.

Above the windows

To calculate the size, add at least 18-20 cm to the width of the window opening on each side. You will also need to measure the distance from the ceiling to the upper corner of the slope. At least 10 cm should be retreated from the upper slope angle. Measurements with fastening to the ceiling are made by subtracting 1-2 cm from the distance "ceiling - window sill", "ceiling - floor" - 4-7 cm.

Specialization: master in the construction of plasterboard structures, finishing work and laying flooring. Installation of door and window blocks, facade finishing, installation of electrics, plumbing and heating - I can give detailed advice on all types of work.

If you need high-quality protection of windows from sunlight or prying eyes, then the simplest solution is to install blinds on the windows. This option has a number of advantages: low cost, ease of installation and the ability to purchase products of any size. In the review, we will figure out how to fix the structure, the methods of work are different, so you will definitely find the right one.

Overview of mounting options

Now let's go directly to the workflow. When installed in different ways, the size of the blinds varies significantly. Therefore, I strongly recommend that you first read this section, choose the method that is most suitable, and only then order blinds according to the recommendations that will be given in the corresponding paragraph.

No need to rush, in construction and repair, this always leads to unnecessary costs or problems during the work. Only having understood all the nuances, proceed to the selection of the product and its installation.

Method 1 - fastening inside the opening

A very common solution, which is characterized by a fairly simple workflow and is highly reliable. Installing blinds with your own hands on a plastic window can be done in several ways:

  • On top of the window frame, this is a very popular solution due to its simplicity;
  • On the wall above the window, if the space in the opening allows it;
  • On the top of the opening, if it is not possible to use any of the above methods.

If you decide to use this particular option, then here are recommendations for you on how to choose the optimal size of the blinds:

  • The width of the system should be 4 cm less than the width of the opening, that is, you should have gaps of 2 cm on both sides. This is necessary not only for the free movement of the structure, but also for the normal fixing of the upper box, since it can be wider than the lamellas themselves;

  • The height of the system should be 2 cm less than the height of the opening. But there is an important nuance here - if one or two doors open, then the box should be located so as not to interfere with the work of the structure. If this does not work out, then it is better to use the sash mounting option, which we will describe below.

To carry out the work we need the following:

Equipment Description
Mounting brackets
Blinds You must purchase a ready-made kit in size, taking into account the above recommendations. Usually the structure is assembled and you only need to make sure that the cord is not tangled
Mounting brackets Most often they come in a kit, but sometimes you need to purchase them separately. For example, if you mount the system to the ceiling, then the wall bracket may not be suitable, although many modern manufacturers come with universal elements that can be used for any type of work.
screwdriver With it, self-tapping screws will be twisted, if you fix the blinds on the frame, then no other power tool will be needed
Perforator It is necessary when drilling an opening for the installation of dowels, with which the mounting brackets will be fixed. Naturally, a drill of the appropriate diameter and length must be present in the kit.
Measuring tool Of course, you can’t do without markings; a level, ruler or tape measure and a pencil are used for work. It is important to place the blinds evenly, so do not do the work by eye.

Now let's figure out how to install the structure correctly:

  • First you need to unpack the blinds, make sure that everything is in order with them and there are no damages. Then the box is tried on to the opening, you have to check if everything is in order and if all sizes match, this will not take much time, but everything will definitely be in order. If the sashes open at the window, then be sure to check if the box interferes with their movement, do not miss other little things like handles on the windows, the blinds should not rest against them;

  • Using the level, you need to mark the horizontal on the surface, just put a couple of dots or strokes so that you can navigate them as you work. Next, brackets are applied and the points for drilling holes are marked, if you will be attached to the wall or the top of the opening, in case of fixing to the frame, you must also put points in the right places;
  • If you need to drill holes, then this part of the work is done, after which plastic dowels are inserted, holes are obtained for the screws with which the fasteners will be attached. In cases where you are attached to PVC, you can immediately screw special self-tapping screws into plastic, they fit well into the material. It is much easier to work with a screwdriver, although a regular screwdriver will do;

  • If the brackets are installed correctly, then it will not be difficult to fix the container with blinds in them, it simply snaps into the fasteners. The structure must be held securely and not move at the attachment points;
  • Lastly, the operation of the system is checked, everything should move easily, without any problems and obstacles.

Method 2 - fastening outside the opening

Now let's figure out how to install the blinds outside the opening yourself. This option is suitable for cases where the window is not recessed deep into the wall and if you want to darken the room as best as possible, there are two mounting methods:

  • If the window is deep, then the structure is installed on the wall above the opening;
  • When the window is flush with the wall or slightly deepened, the installation is carried out on special brackets;
  • Sometimes fastening is made to, such a system is more often used in vertical blinds due to their large size.

Now let's figure out how to determine the optimal dimensions of the blinds in this case:

  • The width of the product must be 10 cm more than the width of the opening, so that the system enters the walls at least 5 cm on each side, this will ensure high-quality darkening. The height can be 10 cm more than the opening if the window sill does not protrude or the size is calculated individually if there is a protrusion;

When hanging the box, do not forget that it should not interfere with the opening of the doors, the easiest way is to place it along the top line of the opening.

  • If the window is flush with the wall and the blinds are mounted at a distance from the wall, then the width of the structure must be at least 20 cm wider than the opening in order to ensure high-quality blackout. As for the height, it is determined based on whether the system will be lowered below the opening or whether it will lie on the windowsill.

To work, you need the following list of tools:

  • Perforator with a drill of the right size;
  • Level and pencil for marking;
  • Screwdriver or screwdriver for tightening fasteners.

The work instructions look like this:

  • First you need to attach the blinds to the opening to make sure that you did not make a mistake with the width. Using the level, marks are made in the right places, after which it is necessary to determine the exact position of the mounting brackets and mark the points at which these elements will be attached to the wall;

  • Drilling is done at the marked points, so as not to constantly check the depth, wind the tape around the drill in the required place and navigate along it when working, so you do not make the holes too deep or too small;

If your structure width exceeds one and a half meters, then you should hang it not on two, but on three brackets to ensure the necessary rigidity and strength. For larger sizes, it is better to use aluminum products, they are less susceptible to deformation and retain a clear geometry for many years.

  • Attaching the brackets is quick and easy if you've made the holes in the right places. The workflow is simple: first, plastic dowels are inserted and pushed all the way, after which the supporting elements are attached and fixed with the screws included in the kit. They can be either screwed in or simply hammered in with a hammer, the reliability of fastening does not suffer from this;
  • The last step is this: you need to insert the container into the latches, make sure that it is fixed securely, after which you can proceed to check the system's performance.

Method 3 - fastening to the sashes with clamps

Now let's figure out how to install plastic blinds on plastic windows, although the process is similar for products made from other materials. This option is great for windows in which one or more sashes open, separate elements are attached to each half of the glazing, which allows you to open not the entire opening, but part of it. In addition, such solutions do not interfere with the opening of windows, which is also important.

Fastening is always done on the frame, and you can do it as indicated in the first method - using self-tapping screws. But such a solution has one significant disadvantage: if you decide to remove the blinds, then holes will remain on the surface, which you are unlikely to get rid of. Therefore, it is better to use the technology from this section, then the frames will remain intact.

Consider how to determine the optimal dimensions of the blinds in this case:

  • The width of the structure must be 3 cm greater than the width of the glazing, that is, the overlap on the frame is 1.5 cm. It is important that the system does not rest against the handle and does not interfere with opening the window;
  • The height should be 3-5 cm more than the height of the double-glazed window.

In this case, we need the following set of materials:

  • Blinds in finished form with a U-shaped top;
  • Plastic clips that are specially configured to be mounted on the frame and snap into the louver box;
  • Lower holders that will fix the blinds in a taut position and will not allow them to sag, even if the window is open.

As for the tool, we will not need anything at all - only hands and the desire to carry out the installation without outside help.

Installation of blinds on a plastic window is carried out according to the following technology:

  • First you need to open the sash and wipe it with a cloth, the design must be clean;
  • Latches are placed on the frame on both sides of the sash with an indent from the edges of at least a few centimeters if the width is large or the blinds are massive, then three fasteners can be used;
  • Lastly, under the outer part of the holders, a box of blinds is started until it clicks. The protrusion of the latch should go into the groove in such a way as shown in the diagram below, everything is quite simple and easy;

  • Lastly, latches are installed at the bottom of the frame. Here it is important to clearly note their position so that the open blinds are in a taut state, and not dangling. When the markup is completed, you can attach the elements with self-tapping screws or using double-sided tape so as not to damage the window profile.

Method 4 - mounting on universal brackets

This option resembles the one described above, but also has a number of differences, so it should be considered separately. It also does not require drilling of sashes, no tools are needed for work, and the main fastener is a universal mount that is suitable for blinds, roller blinds and pleated blinds. That is, you get a platform on which you can mount different systems.

The list of materials and the measurement process is no different from the above option, so we will start immediately with the installation process. Work is carried out in the following sequence:

  • First you need to clean the surface of dust and degrease it, this will fix our elements as reliably as possible;
  • Then you need to stick double-sided tape to the back of the latches. There are different options in stores, choose better products that are designed for attaching heavy objects so as not to worry about the reliability of the design;

  • The bracket is inserted into the mounting platform if necessary, if you will fasten the structure to a blind sash, then the latch is not needed. This is a very big plus, since in the previous case it is impossible to attach the blinds to blind sashes without self-tapping screws;
  • Then a bracket of the configuration we need is attached to the base, short self-tapping screws are used for work so that they do not protrude from the back side;
  • Further, the elements are glued to the surface in the required places, and in the case of opening doors, they are also snapped onto the upper end;
  • Lastly, the blind box is fixed - and the design is ready for use, everything is simple and fast.

If you are thinking about how to install plastic blinds on windows, then this option is the best fit, because the design is lightweight and double-sided tape will easily hold it.

Conclusion

Installation of blinds can be carried out without hiring specialists, any of the above options for carrying out work is within the power of even an inexperienced master. The video in this article will help you understand the topic even better, and if you have additional questions, then write them in the comments below.

Large windows are a sign of modern housing. Sometimes a lot of light interferes and does not allow you to relax. Each owner is thinking about installing blinds on the plastic windows of his home.

Of course, blinds play a big role for a comfortable stay. Depending on the intensity of the sunlight, rooms facing south and east can be either completely closed or only partially covered. And also the purpose of the room itself plays a significant role. For example, in the dining room it is better to choose transparent structures, but in the bedroom you need those that can completely prevent the penetration of sunlight into the room.

Blinds play a big role for comfortable living

But in addition to the above function, these structures also protect against noise that can be heard from the street.

In addition, blinds are a great window decoration. Even stripes look stylish and strict and at the same time do not require much maintenance.

Of course, it is best to install them yourself. But each owner is faced with the problem of choice: which blinds are suitable for his particular room, what to choose - vertical or horizontal. After all, home comfort and coziness depend on the correctness of the decision made.

In a modern apartment, blinds are a common thing.

In a modern apartment, blinds are a common thing. These original substitutes for curtains have long been part of our lives. They give the space a certain aesthetics, elegance, beauty. Skillful use of them allows you to emphasize the advantages and hide the shortcomings.

The modern market offers many varieties of blinds. They differ from each other in size, shape, direction of the strips themselves, material of manufacture and even in color.

In general, there are three main types:

  • horizontal;
  • vertical;
  • rolled.

Horizontal. This type is most suitable for residential premises. Such blinds can be fastened both inside the window, on each of its wings, and outside, closing the entire window entirely. Such blinds are perfectly combined with curtains and practically do not occupy window sill space.

Roller blinds perform the same functions as simple horizontal blinds, but the fabric base itself makes them lighter and more elegant.

Vertical. The difference between this type of blinds is that they can be attached not only to the window itself along its outer part, but even to the ceiling. They create an adequate replacement for tulle curtains. However, this type creates an “office” look, and therefore is not used so often for residential premises. However, for rooms with low ceilings, these blinds are the best fit. They will help to visually increase the size of the room, this is due to the fact that the design completely closes the window.

For rooms with low ceilings, these blinds are the best fit.

Roll. Thanks to the variety of colors, these blinds are perfect for any design solution. They perform the same functions as simple horizontal blinds, but the fabric base itself makes them lighter and more elegant. They are simply attached - on adhesive tape, using self-tapping screws, which are screwed to the glazing beads or brackets.

Do-it-yourself measurements

Taking measurements so that the installation of blinds on a plastic window is successful is not particularly difficult, but it has some features that should not be missed.

If the choice is on vertical blinds, then special attention should be paid to the width of the product. Unfortunately, adding an extra record will be much more difficult than, say, shortening it. As a result, after adding at least one plate, you will have to redo the entire product.

If you decide to hang horizontal curtains, then there are several options for both fastenings and measurements.

To fix the blinds inside the window, you need to know the width and height of the product. Of course, the height can be subsequently adjusted using the built-in mechanism, but it is better to calculate it as accurately as possible so that the excess does not “roll” on the window sash with an unnecessary load. Width is the measurement that requires special attention, because depending on the accuracy of its removal, the window will be completely closed or sunlight and unnecessary noise will break through the gaps left.

If the window opens, then measurements should be made in the following way. Make accurate measurements of the height and width of the glass itself, and then add 2 cm on top and 0.5 cm on the sides. It is necessary to take into account the presence of window fittings, which should not interfere with the operation of the blinds.

By the same principle, measurements are made for roller blinds.

But is it necessary to make so much effort and time? Buy brackets, adhesive tape, glazing beads and more? It is much easier with your size to come to the company and choose the product of interest.

Methods for attaching blinds to plastic windows

The first thing to do when the question arose of how the blinds are installed on a plastic window is to take measurements, it is better to double-check them several times and only then go to the company. By the way, it is better to contact the company where the plastic windows themselves were made.

To order the manufacture of blinds, which will be attached in such a way that they will be above the common sheet of window openings, window dimensions are required. But also in this case, the design can have exactly the dimensions that the customer wants. True, one should take into account the fact that in the future they should harmoniously fit into the interior.

Most often, installation instructions are attached to the blinds. Before starting work, it should be well studied and you can proceed with the installation of the product.

To do this, you need to arm yourself with tools:

  • pencil;
  • ruler;

Measuring tool for fastening blinds to plastic windows

  • screwdriver;
  • brackets;

Screwdriver for fastening blinds to plastic windows

  • drill and drill 6 mm;
  • hammer, scissors, dowels and a screwdriver.

There are several ways to install blinds:

  • install by screwing with screws;

Hammer for fastening blinds to plastic windows

  • hang on pre-nailed brackets;
  • attach to the holes drilled in the wall.

Important! But we must remember that after screwing the product with screws to the plastic window itself, holes will remain in it, which, if the structure is removed, will spoil the appearance of the window opening.

Installation of horizontal blinds on plastic windows

Each owner thinks about how to install horizontal blinds on plastic windows.

This process requires a certain amount of precision and attention. It consists of several stages:

  1. Stepping back 6 cm on both sides, it is necessary to outline the place where the blinds will be attached. At this stage, special attention should be paid to the accuracy and evenness of the places of future fastening. If they are skewed, the blinds will not be able to fully work and will soon fail.
  2. Using a screwdriver, mark the holes into which the brackets will be attached in the future. If the window needs to be opened, then holes should be made in the upper part of each sash, and if the window is blind, then the hole should be made on the outside of the glazing bead.
  3. After inserting the blinds into the brackets, click them into place.

If the process of installing blinds caused questions or any difficulties, watch the video instruction for installing blinds on plastic windows.

  1. Depending on the size of the blinds and convenience, make a hole at the bottom or side of the window sash into which the latch will be fixed.
  2. Check how the blinds work.
  3. If the process of installing blinds raised questions or some difficulties, watch the video instruction for installing blinds on plastic windows.

Installing vertical blinds, although a little easier, still requires no less painstaking work. It consists of the following steps:

  1. At a distance of at least 10 cm from the edge of the eaves, it is necessary to make markings for the brackets with a pencil.
  2. Drill holes and, inserting dowels into them, fix the brackets.
  3. Install the mounting brackets together with decorative lamellas on the eaves.

  1. After collecting the runners, fasten them to the canvas.
  2. Attach the weights to the bottom of the decorative slats.
  3. Connect the weights to each other by successively threading a decorative chain into their ears.
  4. After inserting the end corners and side panels into the ends of the decorative panel, install it into the mounting brackets.
  5. Check the operation of the blinds.
  6. If for some reason they do not work or work incorrectly, it is better to watch a video on how to install blinds on plastic windows or contact a specialist for help.

But the installation of roller blinds is the fastest and least expensive. All it takes is:

  • double sided tape;

  • duct tape;
  • liquid Nails.

Thanks to this method of fastening, they can be removed, washed, hung up and moved to a new place.

On a note! For greater strength, the frame must be washed well and all dirty spots removed, which will interfere with the strong adhesion of the adhesive tape to the plastic.

Some firms, selling blinds, complete only the canvas. All mounting materials in this case have to be purchased additionally. When choosing curtains, you should pay attention to the fact that different types of blinds are suitable for different rooms. For example, plastic blinds are most suitable for the bathroom because of the ease of cleaning, aluminum or fiberglass blinds for the kitchen, because they do not burn, and fabric-based products will create coziness and comfort in the bedroom.

There are a few things to keep in mind during installation:

  1. For a more even installation of horizontal blinds, at the very beginning, make a mark on the bottom of the window where the side should end, since aligning with the longer vertical side will align the upper perpendicular accordingly.
  2. Some companies offer to use special screws for installation, which can be screwed directly into the window profile;
  3. If the mounting plates do not fit snugly against the window profile, special U-shaped linings are used, which, depending on the gap, can be used from one to several pieces.

It should also be remembered that vertical blinds should never be moved by hand if they are deployed so that they completely cover the window. This may damage them. You must first, by pulling the chain, turn the slats perpendicular to yourself, and only then you can push or move the blinds themselves.

In case of defects, poor performance of the blinds, they creak or do not turn - be sure to call the master of the company where you made this purchase. You better not do anything yourself. Even though it seems simple enough.

Of course, everyone loves cleanliness, but the new blinds have a certain coating that wears off very quickly. In this regard, it is best to completely soak the blinds, let them stand, and only then carefully wipe them with a soft sponge, rinse and let them dry on their own.

But vertical curtains must be cleaned very carefully with a whisk from dust or a vacuum cleaner with an air intake regulator.

Important! Always remember that when using the products, you must follow the instructions for use.

A sharp pull on the lace of vertical curtains leads to their breakage.

I like

It is not always convenient to use curtains. In some cases, blinds are more practical and more convenient. They make it possible not only to protect yourself from immodest glances in the evenings, but also to regulate the level of illumination during the day by turning the lamellas (plates). We will talk about how to install blinds on plastic windows in this publication.

Structures and installation methods

Blinds on windows are of two types - vertical and horizontal. Vertical slats are usually made of plastic or special dense fabric, cut into strips 10-15 cm wide. Less common are aluminum slats or synthetic threads.

Lamellas of horizontal blinds happen plastic, wooden and metal. Regardless of the type and material, they consist of a cornice and lamellas. Eaves - a plastic or aluminum U-shaped profile in which the controls are located and to which the lamellas are suspended. Lamellas - horizontal or vertical stripes / plates, which actually close the opening. In order to be able to open and close the blinds, there are controls - chains or threads.

In horizontal models, there is also a control rod associated with a rotary mechanism. By rotating the rod, the angle of inclination of the lamellas is changed. This is how you can change the amount of light and the "transparency" of the window. If the slats are placed vertically (almost), they completely block the view. When horizontal, they almost do not interfere with the review, but there are still a lot of other positions.

Installation of horizontal and vertical blinds

When installing blinds, you need to fix the eaves. For fixing it, specially designed brackets are included in the kit. These brackets are attached to the window or wall, and the cornice is simply put on them (until it clicks).

There are several ways to install blinds on plastic windows:

The installation method of the blinds will have to be determined even before the purchase: the dimensions of the canvases depend on this. So the type of installation must be selected before measurements.

We take measurements

With the type of blinds (horizontal, vertical) and the method of their installation (on the wall, ceiling, in the window on the sash, in the window opening) you need to decide before buying. And even before the moment you start measuring. Because different installation methods require different sizes. Only with correctly made measurements, it will be easy to install blinds on plastic windows.

Another important point: each window needs to be measured separately.. Sometimes it just seems that they are exactly the same. Believe me, there is a difference. And the measurement results must also be recorded and signed, which specific window you measured and which sash it is. Accurate and detailed records will help to avoid confusion during purchase and installation.

In the window opening

Although the appearance of the products is different, when measuring there is no difference between horizontal and vertical models. If you are going to install blinds in a window opening, you need to subtract 2 cm from its width on each side. You can subtract 1-3 cm from the height of the opening. Such gaps are needed so that the canvas hangs freely in the opening and the lower edge of the slats does not rub against the window sill.

Please note that you can install blinds on plastic windows “in the opening” not flush with the edge of the opening, but deeper - at the very glass or stepping back 5 or more centimeters from the edge. If the opening has a trapezoidal shape, the height/width of the opening will be smaller for the glass, so we take measurements carefully. And yet, in this case, it is better to put marks for installation when measuring. Then you will know exactly where you will need to install the blinds on the plastic windows so that their dimensions fit perfectly.

On the ceiling or wall

Here the measurements depend on your desires. The length of the blinds can be up to the floor or just up to the windowsill. Moreover, depending on the type of installation chosen, the lamellas can cover the window sill or not. So the length is whatever you like.

This is a wall mount. When mounted on the ceiling, the length will increase., And how much - you choose

The width of the blinds with this installation method is wider than the window opening. How much wider depends on your desire, but the minimum entry is 5 cm on each side. But if the window is in the same plane with the wall surface, you will need additional brackets that are not included in the package: the slats must be placed at least 5 cm from the glass surface so that they do not interfere with opening the sashes for ventilation.

on sashes

When installing blinds on a multi-leaf window, there are two possibilities - put one device on each sash or order one long one for the entire window. Usually the first option is chosen - it makes it possible to open and close the sashes with the blinds lowered. If you choose this installation method, you will need to measure each sash and record the results. Sash can be different, so be careful.

The width of the blinds when installed on the sash is taken 3 cm wider than the glass. When hanging, the lamellas overlap by 1.5 cm on the profile. It is convenient and does not interfere with opening / closing windows. The length depends on the location of the fastener, but usually it is 5 cm longer than the height of the glass.

Once again, we draw your attention: we measure each sash!

How to install blinds on plastic windows: fasten to a wall or window opening

The first step is to mark up. We install brackets in the eaves. We place them on the right and left so that they do not interfere with the operation of the blinds. The installation height depends on the selected product length.

We apply the curtains, mark with a pencil on the wall the places for installing fasteners in the brackets. If we mount horizontal blinds (they are light and create almost no load), it is enough to put one self-tapping screw / dowel. Vertical ones are heavier, so you need to install all the fasteners from the kit.

There is also a second way. At the selected level, use the building level to draw a horizontal line, try to avoid tilting - this will affect the blinds (skew). Attach the bottom of the bracket to this line, use a pencil to mark the holes through the holes for drilling. If the length of the cornice is more than 2 m, an additional bracket is required to increase the rigidity of the structure, which is attached in the middle.

When attaching to brick or concrete, at the marked points, we drill holes in the wall or ceiling. Drill or hammer - who has what is available. The diameter of the drill depends on the size of the dowels. They usually come with a kit, but you can put your own.

We insert expansion dowels into the finished holes, carefully hammer them with a hammer. We put the brackets, fasten them with screws or nails (if using a dowel-nails). We install the eaves on the brackets, insert the plugs on the sides. For horizontal blinds, attach a rod (handle) to control the swivel mechanism. To do this, install a special hook (included) directly into the mechanism itself, attach the tip of the rod to this hook.

Installation of horizontal blinds on PVC window sashes

With this method of installation, the blinds are fastened with small self-tapping screws (included) in the window profile. Install them so that they do not interfere with the handle to turn. Be careful: if you drill too close to the glazing bead, you can damage the glass unit. Therefore, in this case, correct measurements are very important.

Installation step by step

The procedure is as follows:

Having to drill holes in a window frame can be intimidating, but there's nothing to worry about. In case of incorrectly made holes, unsuccessful ones can be filled with sealant. White silicone, not acrylic (acrylic quickly turns yellow). The characteristics of the windows will not be affected. What can be dangerous is getting into a double-glazed window. Then it might crack. But this is not fatal - it can be replaced, although it will not be cheap.

Installing the bottom brackets

But that's not all. To finally install horizontal blinds on plastic windows, you need to drill a couple more holes - under the latches (also called anti-wind). These are additional fasteners at the bottom of the opening sash of the window. The lower edge of the blinds is tucked into them. They do this so that when airing the blinds do not hang down, do not dangle from the wind and do not knock down objects on the windowsill.

Don't chat...

We set the clamps like this: we try on, pulling the blinds down a little, mark the places of fasteners, drill holes, install. We fill the lower bar into the installed clamps. Now, even with a draft or an open sash, the blinds will not hang out. The only thing to watch out for during installation is not to get into the glazing bead (this is a long bar that runs along the double-glazed window and holds it). It is necessary to drill a hole in the frame itself, stepping back at least 1 cm from the edge. Otherwise, there are no problems.

without drilling

There is also a way to install blinds on plastic windows and not drill the frame. This method is available only for those blinds that are hung on opening sashes. In this case, they are simply hung on plastic mounts / brackets that are put on the frame from above. To prevent them from moving, a strip of double-sided tape is attached to the back of the bracket. After removing the protective film, it can be glued (but you can not fix it).

These L-shaped plastic brackets are not included, but you can buy them from a store or from a company that sells horizontal blinds. This method is convenient by simply dismantling the blinds, which is convenient if they need to be repaired or washed.

Assembly of vertical blinds

Vertical blinds are installed in exactly the same way as described above. The difference is that the slats are installed after the eaves are fixed (the guide along which the runners move). For convenience, before attaching the slats, you can turn the sliders with an adjustment cord so that the slots in them are perpendicular to the eaves. Next, simply snap the lamellas into the sliders, inserting the strip until it clicks. So, in turn we fix all the lamellas.

If the slats are made of fabric, then after installing them, do not forget to insert the lower weight. Next, we attach the lower connecting chain to the lamellas.

Installation of vertical blinds is completed.
