He was an experienced and well-trained terrorist, owned all types of small arms. Understood in mine-subversive business. He personally trained suicide bombers subordinate to him. He organized foreign financing for the purchase of ammunition and the arrangement of militant training camps in Chechnya. Khattab was destroyed in an unconventional way: a messenger delivered a message to the Arab, which contained a horse dose of potent poison. Khattab opened the envelope and died very quickly after that. His bodyguards could not understand what was really happening.

2. Elimination of Shamilya Basaev Shamil Basaev - an active participant in the hostilities in Chechnya, one of the leaders of the self-proclaimed Chechen Republic of Ichkeria (CRI) in 1995-2006. He organized a number of terrorist acts on the territory of the Russian Federation. He was included in the lists of terrorists of the UN, the US State Department and the European Union. According to official data from the FSB, Basayev and his accomplices were destroyed during the explosion of a KamAZ truck filled with explosives in the Nazran district of Ingushetia. This explosion was the result of a carefully planned special operation, which became possible thanks to the operational work of the Russian special services carried out abroad. “Operational positions were set up abroad, primarily in those countries where weapons were collected and subsequently delivered to Russia to carry out terrorist attacks,” Mr. Patrushev said, adding that Basayev and his accomplices were going to carry out a major terrorist attack in order to exert political pressure. on the leadership of Russia during the G8 summit.

1. Capture of "Nord-Ost" The terrorist attack on Dubrovka, also referred to as "Nord-Ost" - a terrorist attack on Dubrovka in Moscow, which lasted from October 23 to 26, 2002, during which a group of armed militants led by Movsar Baraev captured and held hostages from among the audience of the musical "Nord-Ost". The assault began at 05.17, when the special forces began to launch a special nerve-paralytic substance through the ventilation shafts. At that moment, several hostages called their acquaintances and said that some kind of gas was coming to the recreation center, but their speech quickly became incoherent, and then they could not utter anything at all. The gas suppressed the will of all those present in the hall, and most importantly, the terrorists. If even one of them managed to press a few toggle switches on her belt or connect the wires, the bombs would explode one after another, and the building could simply collapse. A few seconds after the gas began to act, the snipers killed all the female suicide bombers with accurate shots to the head, and then the fighters in gas masks moved on to destroy the other bandits who were in the auditorium. One of them was armed with a Kalashnikov machine gun, but he did not have time to use it, making only one aimless burst. At the same time, part of the special forces who entered the building through the roof dealt with the terrorists in the utility rooms on the second floor, using noise and light grenades. Most of the bandits at the same time were already in an unconscious state, since the gas acted primarily on those.

The victim was one of many militants who fled abroad. Western countries are in no hurry to hand them over to Russian justice. Daily Storm tells about the crimes of those who, like Zelimkhan Khangoshvili, managed to escape from the Russian Federation, and about their new life.

The Chechen Republic of Ichkeria was de facto liquidated in 2000, and its authorities were added to the list of terrorist organizations. Those of its leaders who survived and were not arrested live in Europe, the USA, Turkey and other countries. In 2007, the self-proclaimed president of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, Doku Umarov, announced its abolition and proclaimed the formation of the Caucasus Emirate. The unrecognized republic itself continues to exist virtually, with its "rulers" based in Britain and Austria. On the Internet, there is a website of the CRI state news agency blocked in Russia, and in social networks there are pages to which one and a half to two thousand people are subscribed. There is even a page explaining how to obtain citizenship and a passport from the unrecognized republic.

Khangoshvili, who was killed in Berlin, was one of the fugitive militants. During the second Chechen campaign, he led a detachment controlled by Shamil Basayev. After the elimination of the latter, Zelimkhan Khangoshvili returned to the Pankisi Gorge of Georgia by mountain paths through Dagestan and Azerbaijan. He was put on the federal wanted list, but he was of interest not only to Russian law enforcement officers, but also to former comrades-in-arms - Chechens.

The fact is that in August 2012, together with field commander Akhmed Chataev, nicknamed Odnorukiy, Akhmed Khangoshvili invited former comrades-in-arms who were hiding from Russian justice in Austria to visit. From Georgia, the militants went on foot to Chechnya, but they met peasants in the gorge of the Lopota River. They took witnesses hostage and demanded from the authorities a corridor to the Russian border. Negotiations went on for a week until Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili made a decision to liquidate the militants. In the skirmish, 11 Chechens and four Georgian security officials were killed. Then Chataev was hospitalized with severe injuries, and Khangoshvili left for Tbilisi. Last Friday, he was killed in the center of Berlin while walking in the park: the killer rode up behind him on a bicycle and shot him in the back of the head with a Glock-26 pistol with a silencer.

However, Zelimkhan Khangoshvili is not the only member of terrorist groups who found refuge outside the Russian Federation.

Journalists first wrote about Zakayev in 1995, in the context of the capture of a maternity hospital in Budyonnovsk by militants. Then 129 people were killed, more than 400 were injured. Once Zakayev was an actor of the Grozny Drama Theater, during the years of the Chechen conflicts - the chairman of the cabinet of ministers of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria. Zakayev personally ordered the execution of captured Russian soldiers. One of them shot off his fingers. Former members of the gangs said that during the First Chechen War, on the orders of Zakayev, two priests were kidnapped - the abbots of an Orthodox church in Grozny. They were tortured into converting to Islam.

Now Zakayev lives in London. He has accounts on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. There he places statements on behalf of the CRI, comments on world events, information about participation in events. So, at the end of June 2018, near Brussels, “a meeting of European Chechens was held.” “People from Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France came here. As from the organizing country, there were, of course, more from Belgium,” Zakayev wrote. In Russia, he is accused of creating a gang, criminal offenses and terrorism.

The possibility of his involvement in the capture of Budyonnovsk in 1995 is not ruled out.

In 2004 he received political asylum in the United States. In 2010 he published the book "Chechnya's Struggle: Victory and Defeat". To write the book, Akhmadov received a Reagan-Fussell grant from the US National Endowment for Democracy. In Russia, Akhmadov is accused of aiding terrorism. Russian law enforcement agencies said they had evidence of Akhmadov's links with Maskhadov and the leader of the Chechen gangs, Shamil Basayev.

Apti Batalov (participation in illegal armed groups)

Batalov was "Head of the Administration of the President of the CRI" from 1998 to 2000. He was responsible for the defense of the Naur region as a field commander, but did not cope with his task - the region was taken almost without a fight. In April 2000, Batalov was detained during a special operation in the southwestern part of the Shali district of Chechnya and placed in the Lefortovo pre-trial detention center, but was soon amnestied.

In 2002 he left Russia and received political asylum in the UK. Lives in London. On his Youtube channel, he posted videos with his monologues on the topic of Chechnya, but the last of them is dated 2011. Later, his video messages to Ramzan Kadyrov and Akhmed Zakayev appeared on the Web. Batalov abandoned the idea of an independent Ichkeria and supports the idea of the Caucasus Emirate. In Russia, he was put on the wanted list for participation in illegal armed formations.

Later he was commander of the Eastern Front of the CRI Armed Forces. In 2004, he participated in an armed attack on his native village of Ishkhoy-Yurt. Then five police officers and several civilians were killed. After the skirmish, the terrorists managed to escape, during the retreat they shot the car of the acting head of the Nozhai-Yurt District Department of Internal Affairs. Vadalov was the commander of this group.

In 2008, Vadalov attacked the village of Benoi-Vedeno in the Nozhai-Yurt district of Chechnya: then the militants killed three people and burned the houses of Chechen policemen. After the proclamation of the "Caucasus Emirate", Vadalov took the oath to Dok Umarov. However, later, after Doku Umarov announced the cancellation of his decision to appoint Vadalov to his place in the event of resignation, he resigned and left Umarov's subordination.

Vadalov is on the international wanted list in the Interpol database. In November 2016, he was detained in Istanbul along with seven militants from the North Caucasus, but was soon released, despite the requests of the Russian leadership and personally Ramzan Kadyrov to extradite the terrorists to the Russian authorities.
