Balcony doors: a great reminder to the buyer and owner. Balcony door The choice of the design of a balcony door with a width of 900

Balcony doors separate the loggia or balcony space from the rest of the room. Thanks to them, protection against the penetration of cold air into the house is provided. In addition, the doors let light into the room, since, in the overwhelming majority of cases, they are transparent. If the door is convenient and functional, it is always pleasant and comfortable to use it. As a glazing of structures, standard glass and double-glazed windows are used, the same as for windows.

Types of balcony doors

Depending on the combination with windows, doors to the balcony are divided into the following types:

  1. Freestanding doors.
  2. Combined with a window... These are the so-called balcony blocks:
    • windows are on both sides of the door;
    • the window is to the left of the door;
    • the window is to the right of the door.

Depending on the opening mechanism, the door can be:

  • swivel;
  • swing-out (like the previous version, it can be with left or right opening);
  • sliding,
  • deaf.

Depending on the design, the doors are:

  • monocots with one valve;
  • dicotyledonous, which have 2 valves.

Doorways have certain standards. So, the width of a swing balcony door can be in the range of 70-90 cm. Its height is 200-210 cm. In private houses and in apartment buildings of an old building, the height of the balcony doors can reach 280 cm, and the width - up to 130 cm. projects can be used and more dimensional structures that occupy the entire wall.

Balcony door modifications

The exit to the balcony can be decorated in different ways. No matter what material modern balcony doors are made of, their glazing is chosen by the owners at their discretion.

The main modifications look like this:

  • The door is completely transparent. The only large glass unit is inserted into it. This is the most popular type of doors to the loggia, allowing more light to enter the room;
  • ... It is a double door, each half of which is glazed. The amount of transmitted light in the room is maximum;
  • The balcony door is divided into 2 parts, each of which is glazed. In the design of such a door, a lintel is provided, which can be located at different heights;
  • The same 2 parts (or one), but only the lower part is closed with a sandwich (plastic doors to the balcony) or a wooden panel (if the doors are made of wood). This is the most economical option.

Design features of balcony doors

Before replacing old balcony doors or redevelopment, the question often arises What are the best balcony doors? It depends mostly on the features of the balcony opening, its size, your preferences and capabilities. By their design, balcony doors are divided into several varieties, each of which has the right to exist:

1. Standard swing doors to the balcony. This is the most popular and inexpensive design, often part of a balcony block. The door opens into the room to one side.

In the photo there is a plastic PVC balcony door with a swing type with tilt-and-turn fittings

2. Double doors, where one of the valves is blind, and the other is opening. This is a fairly economical option. The fixed sash is used as an additional window. You can wash it by going out onto the balcony. This design is often used in the case of a wide doorway.

3. Double doors with impost... Both sashes can open, but between them there is a fixed rigid insert - impost. Thanks to him, the sash is fixed in the closed position.

Tip: If possible, do not purchase such doors, since a fixed impost creates an obstacle when moving to the balcony and back.

4. . It consists of two parts, one of which is fixed at the bottom and at the top for the frame. If necessary, the shtulp opens, as a result of which both doors swing open. This is a very popular type of balcony door, although it is quite expensive.

5. Sliding doors on the balcony. Their characteristic difference is the ability to move the sash along the guide rails. This is a fairly large category, which includes the following types of doors:

Materials for the balcony door

Balcony doors can be made from several materials. How not to be mistaken with the choice? To do this, you need to study the features of each material.

PVC doors

This is the most common type of balcony doors, characterized by reliability and reasonable cost (for a plastic balcony door, the price, as well as for doors made of other materials, depends on many parameters, such as size, method of opening, modification, fittings, etc.).

Metal-plastic doors to the balcony have the following advantages:

  • extraordinary durability;
  • high degree of heat and sound insulation;
  • they are not affected by temperature fluctuations and changes in humidity;
  • doors can be laminated by changing their color;
  • environmental friendliness is within the normal range.

Disadvantages of PVC doors:

  • conservative appearance;
  • the need for regular maintenance of fittings and seals.

Aluminum doors

More and more often, structures with an aluminum profile are used as balcony doors. Moreover, warm doors from such a profile are no longer a rarity.

Advantages of aluminum doors:

  • light weight;
  • acceptable cost;
  • Fire safety;
  • the ability to manufacture doors of any size and shape;
  • absolute environmental friendliness;
  • durability, calculated in tens of years;

Disadvantages of aluminum doors:

  • insufficient sound insulation of the room;
  • even warm doors are inferior in terms of heat saving to PVC structures;
  • the door surface is at risk of scratches that are difficult to remove.

Wooden doors

Unlike old door structures, which were subject to deformation from excessive humidity and temperature extremes, modern wooden balcony doors are almost an ideal choice. Such doors are made of laminated veneer lumber, which prevents them from warping and damage. Usually wooden doors have panels made of wood or MDF, or double-glazed windows.

Their advantages:

  • they are environmentally friendly;
  • the kind of natural wood contributes to pacification and harmony in the house;
  • convenient control, as the doors are equipped with modern high-quality fittings;
  • noble appearance;
  • high thermal insulation qualities of wood make the doors extremely comfortable at any time of the year.

Disadvantages of wooden doors:

  • if the balcony is not glazed from the outside, then moisture penetrating from the street affects the door. This leads to a loss of its attractiveness, swelling and difficulties in opening and closing it;
  • high price, much higher than the cost of PVC structures.

Glass doors

Such doors are chosen by creative people. The glass doors to the balcony have no frame at all. They consist of double-glazed windows (glass) and control fittings. Double-glazed windows use thick (about 1 cm) tempered glass or triplex. It is extremely difficult to break such glass.

Advantages of glass doors:

  • the use of glass doors allows you to fill the room with light as much as possible;
  • the room visually becomes larger;
  • the appearance of such doors is so unusual that it attracts the attention of guests of the house;
  • the doors are environmentally friendly and safe to use.

Disadvantages of glass doors:

  • the cost of such structures is very high due to the use of expensive glass;
  • doors are heavy;
  • low thermal insulation and tightness, so it can only be used on a glazed and insulated balcony or loggia;
  • requires very precise installation by specialists. Otherwise, a slight bias can disrupt the perfect fit of the flaps.

Hardware for doors

Doors for a loggia or balcony must be completed with fittings, thanks to which they can be locked and opened, as well as ventilated. High-quality fittings will make the door clamp as tight as possible along its entire perimeter. Door fittings are subdivided into internal and external. The interior is similar in design. The structure of external fittings includes the following elements:

  • Door swing handle. It can be one-sided or two-sided. In the latter case, the door can open in both directions. Handles are often fitted with locks to prevent children from accidentally opening them;
  • Fixed handle located on the door from the balcony side. With its help, the door is covered by a person on the balcony;
  • Balcony latch. It is a spring mechanism designed to keep the door closed without using the swing handle. It is very useful when you need to go to the balcony, closing the door tightly behind you;
  • Decorative overlays that cover the metal parts of the door;

Tip: If the balcony is not glazed, then it is advisable to install a mosquito net in the doorway.

The vast majority of modern apartments are equipped with such an important architectural element as a balcony. This small space serves many functional tasks - it serves as a resting place, a home greenhouse or additional storage space.

For any use of the balcony, a properly designed balcony door plays a very important role. In addition to its main task, a properly selected and high-quality design will protect the rest of the room from cold air, moisture and noise coming from the street, and will also provide an optimal ventilation mode.

Types of doors by materials

Several types of material are standard for the manufacture of a balcony door, each of which has a number of its own characteristics, advantages and disadvantages.

  1. Wooden doors

The classic version, which has been installed in our homes and apartments for decades, regains its "second wind" after a short break. Made from different types of natural wood, these doors are considered the most environmentally friendly and aesthetically pleasing. However, there are a number of disadvantages, the main of which is their high cost. If you choose cheap wooden models, there is a risk of acquiring a low-quality product and then the balcony door may dry out or crack under the influence of moisture and temperature differences.

  1. Aluminum doors

Aluminum profile doors are not as popular as PVC designs, although many buyers prefer just such models. This is mainly due to their external characteristics - such doors look more modern and stylish. Durable and durable aluminum makes it possible to manufacture doors of non-standard shapes and sizes. However, aluminum models still have more disadvantages than the usual plastic. And the main one is a low degree of noise and thermal insulation. The minor disadvantages include the susceptibility of aluminum profiles to mechanical deformation. If scratches appear on this material, it will be almost impossible to remove them.

  1. Glass doors

A rather rarely used model, consisting of double-glazed windows and hardware guides. There is no frame for such products, which gives the doors an airy, weightless look, provides a full view and visually enlarges the room. Since the glass in such blocks is used of increased density and only tempered, it is quite difficult to break the doors, because of the increased weight, the sash can be skewed and poor insulation. The main advantage of glass balcony partitions can only be called aesthetic features and the unusualness of the model. In terms of other characteristics, they are inferior to blocks made of other materials.

  1. PVC doors (plastic)

Plastic is the first most popular material for the manufacture of frames, doors and balcony blocks. Polyvinyl chloride, or PVC for short, is exactly the option in which a maximum of advantages with a minimum of disadvantages converged. Plastic doors are reliable, have excellent noise and thermal insulation characteristics, are not subject to temperature and moisture, are lightweight and have a long service life. In addition, they do not require special care, and the price of such products is quite democratic, which is an undoubted advantage. When choosing a plastic balcony door, special attention should be paid to the quality and reliability of the fittings, since it is the breakdown of the opening mechanisms or the failure of the handles that is the most common defect of this type of construction.

Types of PVC profiles

Each company engaged in the production of plastic window or balcony blocks can use its own classification of PVC profiles. But three types are generally accepted:

  • Economy (class C)- balcony blocks, which are installed in new buildings, when the house is delivered on a turnkey basis. The main advantage of this type of profile is their low cost. For the rest of the characteristics, such doors do not meet high quality standards.
  • Standard (class B)- the thickness of the outer wall is at least 2.5 mm, the inner wall is from 2.0 mm. Such profiles provide a high degree of thermal insulation and soundproofing. Optimal price-quality ratio.
  • Elite (class A)- the most expensive models considered to be of the highest quality. They have outer walls from 2.8 mm thick, and inner walls from 2.5 mm thick. By all indicators (including environmental safety) they are in the first place, respectively, and the price of doors from this type of profile is several times higher than that of other similar products.

Also, the PVC profile differs in the number of internal chambers (there can be two, three or more) and in the finish (painted and laminated).

Types of doors by opening method

Modern balcony doors have several varieties according to the opening method, which allows you to choose the best option for each individual installation case.

  1. Swing doors are traditional doors that, with the help of a pivoting mechanism, are able to open in one or both directions.
  2. Tilt-and-turn - allow the door to be used both for access to the balcony and for ventilation. The most convenient and most common option in city apartments and other residential premises.
  3. Sliding (compartment) - the canvas is placed on special guides, with the help of which it travels along the wall. A similar mechanism is used in wardrobes - a compartment, hence its second name. The design saves space and is installed only inside the room, since it is impossible to completely seal the opening with its help. Read more about :
  4. Double-leaf shtulpovye - an excellent choice for private houses and cottages, where it is possible to install a balcony opening of a larger size than the standard one. Such doors consist of two parts - a "working" door on a pivot mechanism and a sash fixed at the top and bottom. Shtulp models are equipped with more reliable locking mechanisms, they are more difficult to break, therefore such a product can be successfully used as a partition between the room and the street.
  5. Accordion (book) is a modern design of canvases, which, when opened, fold in the form of an accordion, while not taking up extra space. The "accordions" with full glazing, installed on the terraces of country houses, look very impressive. This type of door provides a panoramic view and allows maximum sunlight to pass through.

Types of doors by type of filling

By filling is meant an element that is located inside the outline of the balcony door frame. It can be a double-glazed window, an opaque material, or a combined version.

By the type of filling, the door leaf is divided into several types:

  • sandwich panels - a three-layer element consisting of two layers of plastic and insulation material (expanded polystyrene) inside. Such models are usually made in combination with a glass unit;
  • fully glazed - a double-glazed unit or tempered sheet glass is installed. For better heat and sound insulation, structures can contain from one to four sheets. The space between them is called the "camera". Depending on the number of glasses, one, two or three-chamber double-glazed windows are distinguished;
  • light - the bottom is made of an opaque canvas, and the top is glass. In such structures, glazing usually occupies up to 50% of the total area;
  • a glass door with an impost is a door with a glass unit and a transverse beam (impost), which is a frame for the frame and plays an important role in strengthening the overall structure of the door. The downside of this model is the possibility of condensation on the bottom of the glass unit in cold and humid seasons.

Design features of the balcony block

Today there are two main types of balcony door designs:

  1. Freestanding door - not connected to the window unit. This model is especially relevant for rooms with a small area. It can be made with different types of filling - completely transparent or half glazed. The double-glazed door option may not be suitable for all situations. For example, if the family has small children, such a door can be traumatic.
  2. Combined - is a one-piece unit consisting of a door and a window. The most common design option, suitable for any type of room.

Combined units provide for the presence of one or more double-glazed windows, depending on the location of which they are divided into:

  • with a window to the right of the door;
  • with a window to the left of the door;
  • with windows on both sides.

A feature of the balcony door as part of the block is that in the presence of a horizontal impost, it is always installed at the level of the window sill.

Balcony door fittings

The selection of the right fittings is very important for high-quality installation and long-term operation of the balcony door.

The required fittings include:

  • locking mechanisms;
  • loops;
  • mechanisms for opening and closing doors;
  • closers;
  • pens;
  • clamps;
  • balcony latches.

Additional elements include those elements that are installed inside or outside the product and provide protection against accidental opening of the doors, or vice versa, simplify the process of opening and closing doors:

  • Protection against opening by children - limiters and blockers, the use of which does not allow opening a door or window more than the permissible value.
  • The double-sided (double) handle is a very convenient design that is located on both sides of the frame and is equipped with a locking mechanism. In this case, the risk of accidentally slamming the door and staying outside disappears.
  • Smoker's handle - equipped with a magnetic mechanism. Allows you to close the sash tightly without locking the doors. This model is convenient for families where there is a frequent need to go to the balcony (for example, to smoke). At the same time, the locking mechanism is not used, which increases the period of its use. However, where there are small children, such fittings cannot be installed.

Adjustment

After some time, an imbalance may occur in the mechanisms of the balcony door, as a result of which they will need to be adjusted. If this trouble occurs during the warranty period, then the question of repair can be entrusted to the company that installs the doors. If you do not have such an opportunity or defects in work appeared much later, you can cope with the problem yourself. Recommended to read : .

There are several reasons why the balcony door ceases to meet its functional tasks:

  • purchase and installation of a low-quality block;
  • low indicators of the material of the fittings;
  • incorrect installation, carried out in violation of the necessary technical conditions;
  • incorrect operation.

In order to identify possible defects in time, it is necessary to check the condition of the door in a timely manner.

It is very simple to do this: take a regular sheet of paper, insert it between the sash and the frame, and close the balcony door tightly. Now try to draw out the sheet. If the paper yields easily and effortlessly, then a gap begins to form in this place. A well-assembled door should hold the sheet tightly. Repeat the test at several points around the perimeter of the frame, and you will find out if there is a need for preventive adjustments.

Causes and options for breakdowns and methods of solving them

In what cases it may be necessary to overhaul the balcony door, and when is it possible to cope with the problem on your own?

First, let's consider the most common causes of breakdowns and how to solve them at home:

  1. When opening, the canvas touches the lower part of the frame - this means that the structure begins to sag under its own weight. Apparently, the initial weight calculation was incorrect. It is necessary to pay special attention to the quality of the fittings and the density of the material from which they are made. If possible, replace it with more durable parts.
  2. The door touches the middle part of the frame - deformation has occurred due to the influence of a temperature drop or mechanical stress. In this case, it may be enough to simply tighten the hinges to move the sash towards them. Then the door will fit more tightly.
  3. A gap has formed between the sash and the frame, through which cold air enters the room - most likely the reason is the wear of the locking mechanisms. Check the handle and, if necessary, tighten the retaining screws with a screwdriver.
  4. A wooden door can swell over time, especially if it is installed on an unglazed loggia or balcony. In this case, you need to remove the canvas from the hinges and leave it under the sun until it dries completely. After that, put in place, close tightly and leave in this position for a few more days.
  5. The seal is frayed or deformed. You can replace it yourself, simply by changing the leaky part to a new one with the help of improvised tools and be sure to "plant" it at the corners with construction glue.
  6. The door makes an unpleasant creak. It's time to lubricate the fittings with special technical oil and adjust the mechanisms. For prevention, you can use a little trick and put a small piece of graphite under the hinges.

In addition to minor repairs, a balcony door can have more serious malfunctions, which will be extremely difficult to eliminate with your own hands.

  1. The glass is cracked - a complete replacement of the glass unit is required, carried out by a qualified employee of the glazing company.
  2. The fittings were completely destroyed.
  3. The welded seams of the structure parted.
  4. The door was ripped from its hinges.

To solve these breakdowns, a complete dismantling of the door and professional assistance will be required, so it is better to contact a specialized organization that is engaged in such repair work.

Insulation of a balcony door

If you live in an environment where the temperature outside the window stays at a minus mark for a rather long time, the standard insulation of a balcony door may not be enough to maintain comfortable conditions in the room.

There are several ways to add additional thermal insulation to a balcony door:

  • Cover the door with insulation. It is important to choose a modern material that will not absorb moisture from the street.
  • If you have a double wooden door, insulate the space between the doors.
  • Insert additional glass if possible.
  • Cover with construction foam all the gaps formed after the installation of the block.
  • Adjust the fittings and replace the seal in order to achieve the most snug fit of the sash to the frame.

When choosing the most effective option with insulation, keep in mind that in this case you will need to completely dismantle the doors and perform all work on a horizontal surface.

Decorating

A properly installed modern balcony unit looks neat and well maintained. However, to protect from excessive sunlight and additional heat and sound insulation, and just for decoration, even a new door needs decoration.

There are several options to protect a balcony door, add functionality and personalize its appearance.

  1. Fabric curtains are a classic option for decorating a balcony group, often incompatible with modern design solutions in the room.
  2. Roman blinds are an elegant way to decorate a balcony door, but it is not always convenient, since in the open form, the collected folds that form can interfere with the use of the door.
  3. Blinds are easy to operate, protect well from external influences, but give the home a standard official look.
  4. - combine all the advantages of fabric curtains and blinds. The variety of materials and colors allows you to choose roller blinds for your interior in any style. The canvas in such structures is wound on a shaft installed directly on the frame, does not take up extra space and does not create any obstacles.
  5. Decorative protective film is a rarely applicable option, since it completely covers the transparent part of the door and can leave traces of glue on the glass.
  6. Seasonal mosquito and insect net. Convenient to use, attach and maintain.

When choosing a way to decorate a balcony block, pay attention not only to aesthetic advantages, but also to the degree of opacity of the selected material. Modern models make it possible to change the throughput of curtains at will, which means that the room will always have comfortable lighting for your eyes. Read more: .

Balcony door care

If you have chosen a wooden balcony block, maintaining a well-groomed appearance in this case is a rather laborious process. In this matter, plastic structures are much more convenient. They are easier to maintain and keep clean.

PVC doors do not need to be painted, the structure of the material is not porous, which means it perfectly tolerates wet cleaning, plastic does not crack, withstands environmental influences well, does not deform and is difficult to scratch. In addition, many specialized liquids are produced to remove dirt from the plastic surface, and if it is impossible to purchase them, you can easily prepare the solution yourself.

Let's make a small overview of detergents used to clean balcony doors with a glass unit or completely made of opaque material.

  1. To effectively clean the surface of a glass unit from dirt, dust or traces of repair work, you can use any commercial glass cleaner. The main thing is that it does not contain alkaline oxidants. If you want to use "homemade" - use a mild vinegar solution. The main condition is to carry out cleaning on cloudy days, otherwise the bright sunlight will quickly dry the glass and a film from chemical reagents may remain on the surface.
  2. It is recommended to wash plastic profiles with products that do not contain acids and household solvents. On sale you can find ready-made kits for cleaning plastic doors and windows, consisting of a special spray, oil for lubricating fittings and grease for the seal. Also proven to be excellent:
  • spray LUXUS for cleaning glass and plastic surfaces;
  • means for cleaning plastic windows Help (Help) Orange;
  • 3ton plastic cleaner;
  • ecological cleaner L.O.C. the Amway trademark.

The choice of products for washing plastic at home is quite wide. It is optimal to choose liquid and gel cleaners, or in the form of a spray. Abrasive substances must be excluded so as not to scratch the door leaf.

Stoppers for doors

Stoppers, latches or, in other words, latches for a balcony door, prevent spontaneous opening and closing of the sash, hold the door in the required position, without using locking mechanisms.
The clamps are not included in the basic set of fittings, therefore they are often installed independently, after the final assembly of the block.

According to the mechanism of action, three types of retainers are distinguished:

  • The latch on the magnet is an elementary structure, consisting of two strips, metal and magnetic, which are attached at the same level on both sides of the frame.
  • Roller retainer - a metal roller, which is inserted into the groove by means of a spring and keeps the door closed.
  • Fale mechanism - the principle of operation is similar to a roller mechanism, but instead of a roller, a spring-loaded valve is used. To operate this type of latch, it is necessary to additionally install a handle with a twist mechanism, since the latch in the opposite direction does not open on its own.
When choosing a stopper for a door, you need to pay attention to the fact that when using a shed and roller structure, you will have to carefully monitor the state of the door, since with any distortion of the sash, the latches are displaced and stop functioning correctly. The magnetic latch is less sensitive to its position and works without generating additional noise.

Door mats

Doormat dirt-repellent rugs are most often seen in the hallway, in front of the front door to the house. However, if, for any reason, you need to put a rug in front of the balcony door, you need to know the nuances of choosing this product.

  1. Fleecy rugs. Due to the soft pile, they have a more attractive appearance. They have low dirt-repellent qualities, poorly absorb moisture, and are intended mainly for churning dust and small dirt.
  2. Made of foamed PVC. They do not get wet or rot, but they can break or crack during prolonged use.
  3. Rubber mats are the most functional models. Wear-resistant, non-slip, absorb dirt and moisture well, easy to clean.

The more synthetic component in the mat, the stronger its material, color-fast and has increased antistatic characteristics. But, taking into account that the rug will be used indoors, you can choose a product with a natural texture. The main thing is to select a rug of such density that its dimensions do not interfere with the free opening of the sash. Take a closer look at woven rugs made from bamboo, straw, or sisal. Such mats keep dirt well and serve as an additional decorative element, and they are also quite thin, which means they will not interfere with the correct operation of the balcony door.

Hanger on the balcony door

The overhead hanger is not very common in our homes, but it is a real find for a small apartment, where every centimeter of free space is appreciated.

The hanger is fixed directly to the door frame using special brackets.

The main advantage of this modern design is its ease of installation, since it does not require the use of special tools or equipment.

Such a hanger:
  • allows you to use space rationally;
  • mobile, that is, it can be removed at any time and moved to another place;
  • to install it, you do not need to spoil walls or other surfaces;
  • does not scratch the door material;
  • it is compact;
  • is inexpensive.

Choosing a hanger for a balcony door, you should correctly measure the dimensions of the installed unit. If you have a heavy door with a glass unit from several chambers, the use of a door hanger can further increase the total weight of the structure, which means that there will be a risk of the leaf sagging. It is also necessary to know in advance the thickness of the hinged brackets so that they do not interfere with the airtight closing of the sash. If the material of the balcony block is PVC, it is better to choose a plastic hanger, as the metal model can scratch the canvas. And, of course, it is irrational to install a hanger on a completely transparent door, because in this case the biggest advantage of a glass door is lost - its aesthetic appeal.

Only a properly installed balcony door can effectively protect the house from the cold. The peculiarity of balcony doors is that they are usually transparent, this is necessary for the normal flow of light into the room. In modern doors, instead of ordinary glass, the same double-glazed windows are installed as on the windows, which allows you to effectively save heat in the apartment.

Varieties of balcony doors

In order for you to be able to choose the right balcony door, you first need to deal with its varieties, find out the features of each option, its advantages and disadvantages.

Balcony doors differ in their location relative to the window: they can be integral with it and be located on the left or right side, as well as be a separate element.

The balcony door can be located to the left, right of the window or be in the middle

Also, balcony doors have different opening mechanisms:

  • the swing mechanism is traditional, therefore the most popular;
  • the sliding mechanism is convenient to use on small balconies;
  • the swing mechanism is most often used in small apartments;
  • tilt-and-turn doors can be additionally opened for ventilation mode.

By the type of construction, balcony doors can be single or double leaf. Various materials are used for their manufacture: wood, plastic, glass, aluminum.

Before choosing a balcony door, you need to decide how it will be mounted. Usually, balcony blocks are installed in apartments, and it will be expensive and difficult to remodel the wall for a different type of door.

Types of balcony doors by material of manufacture

The functionality and service life of a balcony door will largely depend on the material from which it is made. Consider the features of structures made of various materials, their advantages and disadvantages.

Wooden balcony doors

Wood is an environmentally friendly and safe material, but how practical will such doors be? People who love everything natural believe that a wooden door will be the most correct solution. They are guided by the fact that such designs have a chic appearance and are environmentally friendly.

In order for a wooden balcony door to serve reliably, only dry, high-quality wood and modern double-glazed windows are used for its manufacture.

But despite the presentable appearance, wooden balcony doors have one serious drawback - after a while they dry out and their functionality decreases, after which they poorly protect the room from the cold.

If you decide to use wooden doors on the balcony or loggia, then they must be additionally insulated. This is done at the points of attachment of double-glazed windows, as well as at the joints of the door frame. The simplest option would be to use self-adhesive tape. In order for the door to blend in with the interior of the room, decorative upholstery materials are used that match the design of the room.

Plastic doors for the balcony

The championship among balcony doors is confidently occupied by plastic structures, they are also PVC doors. This is due to the optimal balance of characteristics such as quality and price. In addition, plastic doors are practical, easy to use and have a beautiful appearance.

A plastic balcony door is a modern solution that not only reliably protects the room from the cold, but also has a beautiful appearance, low cost

Among the disadvantages of PVC structures, some experts note their relative fragility, but it all depends on the observance of the rules of operation and maintenance. If you inspect them on time, if necessary, change fittings and canvases, then such doors will serve you for more than a dozen years.

Glass balcony doors

Glass doors to the balcony in an apartment are not very common, usually creative people choose this solution. Most often they are installed in cafes or offices, as they allow you to better attract customers.

The following materials can be used to create a glass balcony door:

  • triplex;
  • plexiglass;
  • polycarbonate.

The materials described are transparent, but their strength is much higher than that of ordinary glass, so they are safer. If glass is used, then it is pre-tempered, which significantly increases its strength, and it can withstand higher loads.

Glass door to the balcony is a modern and unusual solution that allows you to transform any apartment

There are two options for the design of such structures: frame and frameless. Steel, aluminum, plastic or fiberglass are used to create the frame. In the frameless version, there is no frame; instead, fiberglass filler and polymer binders are used.

The advantage of this option is that the room turns out to be light, its dimensions visually increase, glass is an environmentally friendly material. The disadvantage of a glass balcony door is its high cost and low thermal insulation performance, therefore it is recommended to install them only on glazed balconies. And also such doors are difficult to install, which is unlikely to be done on your own.

Combined balcony doors

A popular solution is to install combination doors. In this case, the lower part is usually made of PVC or wood, and double-glazed windows are installed on top. Thus, the bottom of the door protects the room well from cold penetration, and the transparent upper part lets in a sufficient amount of light into the apartment.

Combined doors can have a panel or panel structure. The main advantage of the combined structures is their low cost, and the surface coating with veneer or laminated panels of the required shade allows you to select doors for any interior.

The combined structure is usually made of wood or plastic at the bottom, and the upper part is a glass unit

The main disadvantage of combined balcony doors is that the buyer cannot check the filling that is inside, namely, the strength, sound and heat insulation characteristics of the structure depend on it.

To determine the quality of the combined balcony door, you can focus on its weight. If it is light, this indicates the use of cardboard or thin plates as a filler, which indicates poor sound and heat insulation characteristics.

Types of balcony doors by their design

The choice of a balcony door design depends on the size and shape of the opening in the wall, as well as on your preferences and financial capabilities. There are several types of doors that differ in design features, and each of them has both pros and cons.

More recently, there was practically no alternative to traditional swing structures. But now there are sliding, sliding, panoramic doors on the market, you can install accordion doors.

Double balcony doors

This solution can be implemented both in an apartment or house, and in offices. The double door has a special design - two leaves that are parallel to each other. Such doors were often installed in old buildings, but they have not lost their popularity even now.

The double door consists of two canvases located parallel to each other

The presence of two door leaves allows you to better keep warm in the house, so such doors can be installed on an unglazed balcony. The disadvantage of this design is that each door leaf has its own fittings, the purchase of which will have to spend twice as much money.

Balcony double-leaf doors

In old houses, only a single balcony door was installed, but the modern layout of apartments allows the use of shtulp or double-leaf models. This design consists of two leaves, most often one of them remains deaf, and the second is used, but both halves can be made opening.

If only one sash opens, then all the fittings are installed on it. When both sashes are opened, shtulp fittings are installed, which makes the structure more expensive. The advantage of the double-wing version is that you can take out-of-the-box furniture or other large items onto the balcony.

The double door allows not only to go out to the balcony normally, but also to take out large items there

Since each half of a double-leaf door is smaller than a single-leaf one, less stress is created on the hardware, which increases its service life. The disadvantage of this design is that for its installation, an opening is required, the width of which is at least 90 cm. The upper bolt on the sash is located high, therefore, if it is necessary to fully open the doors, it will be difficult to reach it.

If you want to expand the opening for the installation of a double-leaf balcony door, then before carrying out the work, you must definitely obtain permission from the housing commission.

Due to the fact that such a structure has a large glass area, it better lets light into the room. This allows you to visually increase the space, which is especially important for rooms that face north.

Sliding doors to the balcony

Such structures allow you to remove the obstacle, so the room expands and is filled with sunlight. Installing a sliding balcony door gives the apartment a modern look. This solution allows you to make the apartment respectable, and also saves space when opening and closing doors. Sliding doors can be opened parallel or tilted like windows.

Since the structure has a significant weight, it is necessary to take a powerful and reliable profile. Most of such a door consists of glass, so you need to choose modern and high-quality double-glazed windows that have good thermal insulation characteristics.

Sliding doors do not take up space when opened, giving the room a modern look

Wooden doors require more care and attention compared to plastic options. Laminated PVC structures have embodied the practicality and reliability of plastic, as well as the beauty of natural wood.

Sliding doors can be tilt-and-slide type, they are lightweight, provide good tightness and thermal insulation. You can ventilate the room without opening the door for this.

The lift-and-slide design has large dimensions, such doors move along the rails installed on the ceiling and floor. When you turn the knob, the blade rises and slides to the side. This allows the creation of robust structures up to 2.5 m wide.

Balcony doors-accordion

This option resembles an accordion when opening the door leaf. Despite the design features, such doors have insufficient tightness and therefore can be used on a glazed balcony. The characteristics of the door will depend on the quality of the fittings and seals used.

An accordion door allows you to close a large opening, but it is better to install it on glazed balconies, since its tightness is low

The main advantage of such doors is that they take up little space, as they fold like a fan. They are used in large openings, the width of which can be up to 6 m. Compared to other door designs, these will have a worse tightness.

Panoramic balcony doors

Panoramic doors can have different designs: sliding, swing, in the form of an accordion. The frame can be made of plastic, aluminum, wood.

The main advantage of this solution is the presence of a large amount of sunlight in the room. It is necessary to provide blinds or curtains, since in the summer the room will be very hot.

Panoramic balcony door - a modern solution that allows you to enjoy the view from the window

A beautiful panoramic view that can be enjoyed at any time of the year. For greater comfort, the door is equipped with a thermal break and warm glazing. This construction provides a stylish design, it emphasizes the refined taste of the apartment owners and their financial situation. Among the disadvantages of this design, it is worth noting its high cost, the complexity of installation and maintenance.

Often people confuse sliding and sliding doors, they think that they are one and the same thing. In fact, the peculiarity of sliding doors is in their name. They have wheels with which they open, and the weight of the canvas falls on them. This provides a solid and reliable support. Sliding doors have only an upper rail, which negatively affects their performance.

Thanks to the presence of support wheels, the service life of sliding doors is much longer than that of sliding structures. In the process of their work, there are no problems, they do not warp and do not jam. This design is much quieter during opening and closing.

The presence of a lower guide and support wheels makes the design of sliding doors more reliable and durable

Their disadvantage is that the lower guide creates certain inconveniences, as it interferes with walking and dirt collects in it. Low thermal insulation properties do not allow installing sliding doors on an unglazed balcony. Pictures, shelves, etc. must not be hung on the wall next to the door.

Balcony door dimensions

GOST 11214–86 indicates what should be the dimensions of doors for a balcony. In old houses, the width of the doorway is only 61 cm. This allows you to pass through the doors normally, but it will not work to carry large things.

In modern apartments, the size of the window block has increased significantly. Now the width of the door opening is 70–90 cm, and its height is from 2 to 2.2 m.

Standard width, height and thickness of the balcony door provide:

  • in total with the window, sufficient illumination of the room;
  • repeated use and durability, which are ensured by the rigidity of the structure;
  • thermal insulation of the room;
  • the possibility of ventilation of the room with open doors.

If you decide to make doors to order or purchase them yourself, then you need to correctly measure. Dimensions are taken from the outside and from the inside, they do it in several places. In addition to such parameters as the width and height of the balcony door, its thickness is also of great importance; according to existing standards, it should be 75 mm.

Installation of doors for the balcony

Before you start installing a balcony door, you first need to make the right measurements, purchase the necessary materials and tools. The most popular are plastic doors, so let's look at the process of installing them. To complete the work you will need:

  • measuring instruments;
  • level;
  • puncher;
  • plumb line;
  • fasteners;
  • hammer.

How to install a balcony door:

  1. Dismantling the old door. Carefully remove the old structure and thoroughly clean the doorway from plaster. To avoid dust, the surface is covered with a primer.

    During dismantling, it is necessary to carefully remove the remnants of the plaster so that they do not interfere with the correct installation of the new door.

  2. Preparing a plastic door. Before starting installation, it must be disassembled. It will be easier to carry out the installation when the canvas is removed from the box and the double-glazed windows are pulled out of it.

    When the door leaf is separated from the door frame and the glass unit is removed, it is much easier to install the door and less likely to damage the glass.

  3. Door frame installation. For this, the plastic door kit contains fasteners. On the inside of the box there are special grooves in which the brackets are installed. For fastening with anchors, a hole is made in the canvas, it is much easier and faster, but the appearance of the door will be spoiled. At least three fasteners are installed on each side.

    When installing the door frame, it is necessary to strictly observe both the verticality and the horizontal position of its installation.

  4. Installation of the canvas. First, the canvas is placed on the lower canopy. The door is closed, while the parts of the upper hinge must match, when this happened, they are connected with a pin.

    After the canvas is installed on the lower canopy, the upper loops should match, and then they are fixed with a pin

  5. Sealing the door block. After you have checked with the help of a level the correctness of the installation of the door frame and fixed it well, as well as installed the door leaf, the opening between it and the wall is filled with polyurethane foam.

    After the foam has solidified, it must be protected from the negative influence of external factors, under the influence of which the material quickly loses its thermal insulation properties.

Features of operation

In order for the balcony doors to function normally for a long period, they must be properly operated and serviced on time:

  • periodically lubricate the moving parts of the fittings with technical vaseline and inspect them;
  • clean drainage holes;
  • inspect the condition of the seals and lubricate them with grease.

Care of the profile consists in periodically cleaning it from dirt; for this, special products or soapy water are used. The fittings must be protected from dirt and staining. Rubber seals must be cleaned of dirt and wiped with a special agent twice a year. This will preserve their elasticity and water repellency.

Accessories for balcony doors

If plastic doors are installed on the balcony, then usually a separate lock and lever handle are not installed for them. The same fittings are used as for windows. In this case, the quality of the fittings is of great importance, since the doors are heavier, and the load on the hinges, handles and locks will be greater.

To ensure better airtightness, balcony doors are equipped with a middle clamp. This prevents cold air from entering the room. For the same purposes, a porch and a balcony latch are used.

Hardware used on balcony doors:

  1. Balcony latch. It serves to fix the doors when a person goes to the balcony. Its presence allows, although it is leaky, but to close the doors and while the person is on the balcony, the heat will not leave the room.

    Balcony latch allows you to fix the doors when a person is on the balcony

  2. Double-sided handle. This device allows the doors to be closed hermetically. It is not recommended to use it on the first floors, as it is an additional opportunity for thieves to enter the premises. For more reliable protection of your home from burglars, you can purchase a double-sided handle with a lock.

    The presence of a double-sided handle allows you to open doors both from the outside and from the inside

  3. Mosquito net. This is a popular accessory for the balcony door. It keeps insects, dirt and fluff out of the room. For ease of use, you can purchase a mosquito net in the form of a door, which is mounted on hinges and has its own handle for fixing and opening. This is a more convenient option than just a net, which will have to be removed and reinserted each time you exit to the balcony.

    The mosquito net reliably protects the apartment from both insects and dirt, fluff

  4. Double-glazed window. Usually it is used the same as on windows. To normally protect the house from extraneous sounds and cold, it must have at least two cameras.

    If the balcony is glazed, then you can use a single-chamber double-glazed window in the doors, and if not, then a double-chamber is better

  5. Threshold. To create it, use a part of an ordinary window sill. This plastic is strong enough to support a person's weight and is warmer than a concrete threshold. In order for the plastic threshold to withstand a large weight, it must be installed correctly, there should be no voids under it.

    The presence of a threshold does not allow cold air to enter the room

  6. Retaining devices. They are mounted on the floor or on the wall and do not allow the doors to swing wide open, and also fix them in a certain position.
  7. Door hinges. Although the weight of a plastic door is less than a wooden one, in order for it not to sag and work reliably, it is necessary to install powerful hinges and adjust them correctly. Basic requirements for door hinges:
  8. Automatic door closers. These are special devices that allow you to smoothly close the doors without your participation. They can be installed both at the top and at the bottom of the door, but there are closers that hide in the end of the door leaf. The closer has the ability to adjust the closing speed.

    Automatic door closers prevent doors from closing abruptly

  9. Locks. They serve to protect the apartment from thieves. Locking devices can be:

Video: choosing fittings for plastic doors

When choosing a balcony door, one must take into account its purpose, room area and interior design features. In addition, you need to familiarize yourself with the possible door options, their features, advantages and disadvantages, after which you can make the right choice.

When buying doors, we hope for good quality, durability, aesthetic appearance and much more. Everything in the store looks good, of high quality, but after the installation of plastic doors, problems begin.

How to choose quality plastic doors?

Pay attention to well-known brands (Veka, KBE and others). Their products are of higher quality, have a long warranty and many reviews on the Internet.

Companies take care of their reputation and, when dissatisfied with products, marriages, calmly make replacements. Often, together with the door, the set includes installation and maintenance, periodic adjustment of the doors.

Profile. Choose a four-chamber or five-chamber profile for your front door and balcony door. The higher the number, the better the sound insulation will be. Plastic doors for a private house must contain at least five cameras. For interroom, any option is suitable, but remember that the number of chambers also affects sound insulation.

The fittings must be of high quality. By saving money, you will only get paint that falls off quickly, squeaks and permanent breakdowns.

Advantages and disadvantages

Each material has its own strengths and weaknesses. Plastic products are preferred due to the many advantages:

Advantages:

  • Thermal insulation. In winter, it does not release heat from the room.
  • Noise suppression. Suitable for people living next to the road, highway.
  • High quality and reliable locks.
  • Attractive appearance and it is possible to choose a suitable texture, finish. You can see the plastic doors in the photo. There are no restrictions on color, it is possible to order doors according to your own design, while the cost will not increase much.
  • They do not require special handling or care.
  • They tolerate cold, heat, temperature changes well.
  • They are not exposed to water and does not run it into the house. This makes them ideal for kitchens and bathrooms.
  • Low cost. Plastic is easier and cheaper to manufacture than wood, for example. This allows you to save on the cost of goods without losing quality and pleasant appearance.
  • Do not fade, do not change color in the sun.
  • They have a rigid, dense, metal frame.
  • Long operational life, starting from 25 years.
  • Safe. Hypoallergenic, made from safe materials.
  • Many door models with glass inserts.
  • They are used as entrance, interior, office, balcony doors. Also plastic doors

Disadvantages:

  • Not able to withstand strong blows.
  • Low level of fire safety. Plastic products ignite quickly and burn well.
  • Susceptible to mechanical damage.
  • Presentability, for most plastic remains an element of the office, hospital, etc.

Use only light detergents; options for washing acrylic bathtubs, dishes and the like will work well.

Pay attention to how hard the door is pressed against the frame. The stronger the longer it will last.

Plastic doors need adjustment.

Input

Previously, plastic was used only for the manufacture of balcony and interior doors, but technology does not stand still and it turned out to create strong, reliable structures.

Plastic entrance doors are rarely installed for apartments. Most often used for office space, hospitals, schools, shopping centers, etc.

Plastic doors outperform wooden doors in that:

  • They do not need constant painting and varnishing, they are able to maintain a fresh and presentable appearance for more than twenty years. At the same time, they are able to imitate the appearance, color, texture of a real tree.
  • They have a much lower cost, which, with the ability to look like a tree, makes them a more profitable purchase.
  • A wide range of shapes - square, rectangular, arch-shaped and others.
  • They keep warmth in the house better.
  • Unaffected by excess moisture. Suitable for areas with high humidity and rainy seasons.
  • They do not require special care.
  • Interact well with alarms.

Of the shortcomings, it can be distinguished that such doors are still less resistant to burglary than metal or wooden ones. Also, doors are subject to strong deformation next to an open flame.

Interior doors

Interior plastic doors are characterized by all possible sizes, shapes, glass inserts and other materials. Due to the variety of colors, the ability to imitate any texture, material. Interior doors made of plastic are widespread.

Their popularity was influenced by easy grooming. It is enough to wipe the plastic with a damp cloth for light dirt. For strong ones, liquid soap or dish detergent will suffice. They do not need constant staining or varnish.

They have excellent noise canceling properties. If you have children or are planning, then the plastic doors will help ensure they have a comfortable sleep.

Views

By type of construction, they are divided into:

  • Foldable. They have the lowest service life.
  • Sliding.
  • Swinging open. Most popular models.
  • Depending on the door leaf. Has many options. There are models completely plastic, there are with various inserts.

Also divided into:

  • Single leaf.
  • Bivalve.

Balcony

The balcony door is an important part of the room, the interior. They are characterized by the lightest weight. A profile similar to the window one is used. Keep in mind that the handles for opening and closing the door are located only on the side of the room.

  • long service life;
  • many options for color, design, texture, etc.
  • ease of use;
  • look good with plastic windows;
  • many functions of opening and closing, there are modes of ventilation, vents and many others;
  • increases the degree of natural consecration;
  • keeps warm.

Opens only inside the room. This will have to be taken into account when arranging furniture.

Balcony door with full glazing

  • A convenient solution that will suit any interior.
  • Visually increase the size of the room, give the effect of lightness.
  • Clear glass will allow more light to pass through, which saves on lighting costs.
  • Natural light is very beneficial for indoor plants.

Among the shortcomings, it should be noted:

  • Glass requires more maintenance with special products than plastic.
  • Overview. In "P" shaped houses, the neighbors living above you will have a wonderful view of the whole room.
  • The balcony must be in perfect repair and order. You won't be able to use it as a storage room for unnecessary things.

Full plastic door

It is used if the balcony is in disrepair and no repairs are planned, or if the balcony serves as a storage room.

The disadvantages include a sharp decrease in light in the room.

French balcony

Characterized by the absence of thresholds, the door starts right from the floor and extends to the ceiling. Be sure to check if the room is designed for such adjustments. Efforts may have to be made to obtain the required authorization.

Such a move will visually make the ceilings higher and the room larger.

Adjusting the door at home

How to adjust a plastic door if the warranty period is over?

You can make the adjustment yourself at home. Just repeat the sequence of steps in the order shown.

Preparation:

  • Open the door.
  • There will be special plugs on the hinges. Take them off. You may need a key.

Horizontal adjustment:

  • The bottom loop and the top loop are used.
  • It is adjusted by turning the screw to one side or the other.

Vertically:

  • It is carried out by acting on the lower loop.
  • Clockwise, there is an upward shift.
  • In the opposite direction, the door goes down.

Photo of plastic doors

Greetings to all who have come to my page!

Today I propose to talk about such an important thing as a plastic balcony door. During my work, I realized that as to what it should be, there are not even two similar opinions. Someone needs it to be "clean and inexpensive." Someone is looking for a special design, because whatever one may say, the balcony door is a part of the room, moreover, it is quite noticeable, so it needs to be "included" in the renovation. Others are primarily concerned with safety and heat retention.

One of my clients insisted that when replacing a window she should be left with an old wooden balcony door, she was quite satisfied with it. I spent a huge amount of time and nerve cells to convince the client that this should not be done, otherwise all our work will go to waste.

After that, I decided that it was time to give serious explanations about what kind of balcony doors are, why they are good, what are bad, how much they should cost, etc. Anyone who is interested, I invite you to read this post!

What are the balcony doors

In Russia, the entrance to a loggia or balcony is traditionally combined with a window. This whole bulky structure is called a "balcony block" and is installed in a single opening. As a rule, it has typical dimensions and shape.

When communicating with customers, installers can use different definitions - a balcony block or a steam balcony. They mean the same thing: a window and a door adjoining each other.

New materials appear, technologies change, but most modern balcony doors look almost the same as they did 50 years ago. They are made mainly white, glazing the upper part. At the same time, the lower one is made of sandwich panels - glued PVC plates, the space between which is filled with insulation. Most often, polyurethane is used for these purposes.

Perhaps, the main difference between plastic doors and their wooden predecessors is the presence of a threshold. It is needed in order to make the exit to the balcony or loggia more convenient. Sometimes they refuse it. For example, in cases where the building is undergoing repairs or the construction of a house in which the balcony block is installed has not yet been completed.

And yet, the design idea in relation to plastic doors does not stand still. Quite original options can be ordered today. For example, turn the classic style upside down and glaze the bottom. Such a door will look airy and light, even though it will actually become heavier due to the additional glass unit, which, regardless of the quality, is always heavier than plastic.

Such a door will let in more light into the room. However, there is some danger of using it. So, it will certainly open up an overview of the loggia or balcony, so it is suitable only if these rooms are not used as a storage room. Otherwise, the opened view can create the effect of chaos in the room.

An interesting option is a balcony door with full glazing. It will perfectly fit into any interior, be it classic, modern, provence, country or even fusion. In any case, it will give the room grace, light and lightness. Besides, such a solution visually enlarges the space of even small rooms, allowing the gaze to freely penetrate beyond its limits.

There is also a reverse option - balcony door made entirely of sandwich panels. Perhaps it will be appropriate where a balcony or loggia serves as a storage room. Such premises can indeed be hidden. But because of this, the sun's rays in the room will obviously become less.

There is also a design option for which the name stuck. "French balcony". In this case, both the door and the window are made to the full height of the wall., from ceiling to floor. This is a very bold and stylish option. However, if it is not provided for by the project at home, then the implementation of this idea is greatly complicated. You will have to not only increase the window opening, but also get permission to make such changes.

But the result will surely please: the room from which such an exit to the balcony is made will receive a lot of light and visually will look much larger than it actually is.

A plastic balcony door doesn't have to be pure white! If desired, it can be laminated with any film: red, yellow, blue, "under the tree", polka dots, flowers .... The main thing is the client's imagination!

It is also possible to purchase a colored door in mass-dyed material. The choice of colors will be less, but there will be resistance to scratches.

Non-standard openings

The design of the balcony block installed in houses, which in Russia are usually called "stalinkas", can be especially distinguished. Here, as a rule, it includes a double door. In addition, there will be a significant difference in centimeters, due to the fact that the ceilings in such houses are higher, respectively, the size of the door will also increase. Ultimately, all this will affect the price. As a person who has seen a lot of window structures, I can say that it is worth it.

"Stalinist" balcony doors can be equipped with different types of shutters. You can choose the option in which only one sash will open, and the second will always remain stationary. A slightly more expensive option is shtulp, or opening sashes. They swing open completely, providing a wider passage and without creating obstacles in order to bring a rather large thing onto the balcony: a sofa, a table, etc.

The balcony block in the stalinka leaves the opportunity to "play" with the height of the door. The opening part can be made in the entire opening, or you can leave the top deaf. Or opening, but separate from the main door. This will ventilate the room, leaving the passage to the balcony closed.

Since such a balcony window will be quite high, modern designs provide for the use of a mechanism that will allow you to open and close it remotely, so you do not have to constantly drag the ladder.

As for the design, all the same options are available in stalinkas as in other typical types of houses. Here you can also install doors with full or partial glazing, it all depends on the interior, taste and needs of the owners.

What features should be considered when ordering PVC doors?

Before making an order, you need to decide which door is right for you.: with partial or full glazing, do you need additional handles that will fix the closed position of the balcony door from the outside, which profile and fittings are suitable for your purposes, etc.

Then you need to go to search for a company who will be ready to provide all the necessary materials. As a rule, they all have their own websites, where it is described in detail what materials the company works with and what is included in its area of competence.

Many people also post their price lists or even online calculators there, which will allow them to deduce the approximate cost of replacing a balcony block. It will be pretty close to what you will have to spend, although the firm will be able to make the final calculations only after the visit of the measurer, who will assess the exact dimensions, scope of work and, possibly, advise using slightly different components than previously planned.

Modern balcony doors are often equipped with just one handle. You should not be afraid of this, she quite copes with the task entrusted to her. It locks the door securely, keeping it snug against the frame and unlocking it easily.

After the sites have been studied and the first calls are made to the most liked window companies, you need to collect feedback on the work of those who are ready to fulfill all your whims for reasonable money. To do this, you can also turn to the Internet. There are entire sites that publish independent reviews of certain goods and services. The necessary information can be found on specialized forums.

About the variety of plastic doors in the video:

Doors for the terrace and the insulated loggia

Separately, I would like to talk about one very interesting novelty in the field of interior design. These are sliding doors. Of course, in the usual interior of a small room, they can look somewhat pretentious and out of place.

But they will add zest to the interior if they go to:

  • insulated, glazed loggia, in fact, turned into another small room;
  • insulated veranda in the cottage.

In both cases, the responsibility for keeping warm is relieved of the balcony doors. They perform the function of ordinary interior doors, which means that there is more scope for choosing a model.

Sliding doors can be either plastic or aluminum. The latter look especially airy, not taking up space, but, on the contrary, visually adding square meters to the room.

A reliable latch fixes such doors.

Is plastic suitable for making balcony doors?

Modern plastic doors are the best option for a loggia, balcony or terrace.

They are made from the same profile as the windows themselves and, accordingly, have the same set of advantages:

  • easily tolerate temperature differences;
  • indifferent to the effects of moisture;
  • keep a good appearance for a long time;
  • easy to use;
  • keep warm indoors;
  • protect from street noise;
  • durable;
  • environmentally friendly.

In addition, they:

  • allow you to choose the most suitable opening method;
  • equipped with mosquito nets;
  • can be supplemented with external latches and child locks.

Another advantage of plastic structures is their lightness. When it comes to windows, this quality is not paramount. However, the dimensions of the balcony block are much larger than the dimensions of the middle window. Accordingly, they give a completely different load, and the weight of the material takes on one of the most important values. They will not have a significant impact on the structure of the entire house, or on the door frame and hinges. So they will not sag over time.

What accessories are used

As a rule, plastic doors do not require the installation of a separate lock or lever handles. Most often they are equipped with the same fittings as the windows. In this case, the quality of the fittings still plays a greater role than in the case of a window. Nevertheless, despite the lightness of plastic, the structure with the door will weigh much more. Accordingly, the load on everything from handles to door hinges will increase.

Plastic balcony doors are more functional than wooden or metal counterparts, they do not rot or rust, and their service life is very long. Moreover, they cost an order of magnitude cheaper.

Balcony doors are also supplied with an additional middle hold-down, which serves as a guarantee of good tightness along the entire height of the door. It prevents cold air from entering the room.

The balcony porch and the balcony latch serve the same purposes. They prevent warm air from leaving the room when someone walks out onto the balcony. Let's take a closer look at some of the accessories.

Balcony latch for temporary door closing

For those who go out to the balcony quite often, a special balcony latch will make life much easier. It is a small mechanism that allows you to close the door, but not close it hermetically. Nevertheless, this will prevent the rapid release of heat from the room and exclude the possibility of drafts.

Tips for the selection and installation of PVC doors in the video:

Reversible handle

The double-sided handle, in contrast to the balcony latch, will provide a hermetic closing of the balcony door. However, this option also has its drawbacks. So, caution should be exercised by those who live on the first and last floors of apartment buildings. Such a handle can help burglars to enter the premises. Choosing this option, you should give preference to models that require a lock with a key. Although this option will not give a 100% guarantee against hacking.

The balcony latch does not close the door tightly.

mosquito net

According to a survey of customers of plastic balcony doors, it is the mosquito net that is the most popular additional device. It is ordered by almost 80% of the customers of companies involved in the installation of window structures. It does not matter where the house being built is located: in the center of a metropolis or outside the city, far from civilization.

And here and there, she copes with her functions equally well: she does not allow insects, as well as fluff and dirt, to enter the room. This is especially important for those with allergies. Although the cleanliness of the house and the absence of annoying flies and mosquitoes are a great bonus for everyone.

If you wish, you can choose a slightly more expensive, but also noticeably more convenient option with a mesh made in the form of a door. It is also hinged and has a small handle to open it. This will greatly facilitate the life of those who often go out onto the loggia or balcony. In this case, you do not have to remove and then reinsert the frame on which the mesh is attached.

And the process of opening and closing the mesh door will take a split second, so that even the most agile insects will not have time to enter the house.

A balcony door with a non-standard height or width requires special, reinforced fittings.

Door for non-glazed balcony

A plastic balcony door overlooking a non-glazed balcony or loggia is also able to reliably protect against cold and noise. In this case, you must be prepared to pay a slightly larger amount for reliable materials.

First, you should pay attention to the profile. In the case of a "cold" balcony, you need to choose one that consists of several chambers.

Secondly, think about the quality of the glass unit. For a glazed balcony, a single-chamber window glass is quite enough, the balcony will play the role of the second chamber, even if ancient wooden or metal frames and the most primitive glass were used to protect it. We will need something more reliable. Therefore, the choice should be stopped on two-chamber glasses. Ideally, energy efficient. So the house will be reliably protected from bad weather and street noise.

Choosing a plastic balcony door profile

The reliability and practicality of a plastic balcony door largely depends on the profile. Profiles of several manufacturers are presented on the market of window structures today, they all have their pros and cons. However, several manufacturers traditionally enjoy particular popularity in Russia.

Rehau profile

Features of balcony doors Rehau are similar to windows made from the same profile. Usually window companies offer a profile for the manufacture of balcony doors Rehau thickness 60 mm and 70 mm.

They can be equipped with different opening systems:

  • swivel;
  • swing-out;
  • swing.

They make it possible to manufacture structures consisting of one or several sashes, and also suggest a large number of design solutions: they can be easily laminated with a film of various colors, as well as imitating the surface of a tree or other textures. Thus, you can get a door that fits perfectly into any interior.

The Rehau profile has good thermal and sound insulation properties. It has long established itself in the climatic conditions of central Russia. It protects housing equally well from drafts, moisture, dust, street noise. Several sealing contours provide this. As a result, protected by windows and doors Rehau, housing is established the most comfortable living conditions.

Another plus of this profile is a long service life. Rehau balcony doors still serve well those who were one of the first in our country to dare to change wood for plastic. At the same time, all quality characteristics are completely preserved.

Long service life due to the company's high quality standards Rehau. They basically use high-quality materials, the most durable opening mechanisms and proven fittings. All this contributes to the efficient operation of the balcony door for many years.

At the same time, such a balcony door will look like new even after several decades of operation.

This is due to the flat surface, on which there are no cracks, notches, etc. All this makes the care of the balcony door as easy as possible. It can be easily cleaned of any kind of dirt.

Modern Rehau systems are equipped with climate control. Thanks to this, air exchange occurs easily and imperceptibly for others, and a comfortable microclimate is established in the room.

Balcony pairs made from the profile of this brand are equally well suited for premises for any purpose: retail, office, administrative buildings, as well as for housing. They will serve equally long and stably in a city apartment and in a country house.

VEKA profile

This profile appeared on the Russian market of window constructions a little later than its competitors. However, he quickly managed to win back a large share. In Russia, they fell in love with him for the optimal ratio of price and quality. This profile provides warmth, prevents noise penetration, and is absolutely easy to operate. And at the same time it differs in democratic prices.

The most affordable product from the line of this company is the VEKA WHS profile system. She will perfectly cope with bad weather if you install a balcony block on a glazed loggia or balcony.

In other cases, you should pay attention to the VEKA EUROLINE system. In addition to the fact that it has excellent quality indicators for energy saving and noise absorption, it also boasts special elegant contours.

If the exit to the balcony comes from a room that requires a special warm atmosphere, for example, from a nursery, you can take a closer look at the six-chamber profile system VEKA ALPHALINE... It will keep you warm and quiet as much as possible.

Design options and their installation

A balcony door is, in essence, the same plastic window. Just a slightly different shape and size. Manufacturing and installation techniques are the same. As a rule, balcony doors are made from the same profile, using the same glass units and fittings.

But with an ordinary door, entrance or interior, the balcony has a number of fundamental differences. The main one is that the entrance to the balcony or loggia must be completely sealed.... Even the most severe iron door that protects housing cannot boast of such properties. Yes, in fact, no one expects this from her.

It turns out that the balcony door, although it was made in order to fence off the entrance to the balcony, has more functionality than windows. All of the following will only confirm this fact.

Opening schemes

Balcony doors can also be opened like windows in several ways. H Most often they are produced as swivel or swing-out. And if everything is clear with the first mechanism, then with the second one has to face the perplexing question: why?

Indeed, why flip open the balcony door? The answer is banal: in order to ultimately reduce the cost of the entire ordered structure. The swing-out door allows you to make the entire window adjacent to it completely deaf. If there is a need for airing, it is quite possible to do with an ajar balcony.

Opening side

Traditionally, balcony doors open inward.

The opposite option looks revolutionary for our country, although it has several rather significant advantages. For example, this method saves space in the room.

Probably, this method of opening a balcony door has already been appreciated by many, because the number of such orders is starting to increase.

Let me warn you that not all companies are ready to fulfill such an order today. Although, in order not to lose the client, we are ready to find a way to please him. For example, as far as I know, many simply unfold the balcony door during installation. Strictly speaking, this is an acceptable option, although in agreeing to this, the customer must be aware of the possible consequences.

And they are as follows. The glazing beads that hold the glass unit turn out to be on the outside of the house. This will greatly simplify the task of getting into your house for any uninvited guests, since it will not be difficult to remove the glass.

From the side of the street, in this situation, there will also be window hinges. Therefore, even if the thief did not cope with the glazing beads, he will have a backup option: cut the loops. Well, to make his task even easier, a double-sided handle will be installed on the window. No other solution will work here with this method of solving the problem.

I will note one more problem: when installing a balcony door, on the contrary, you need to take into account the features of the opening. For example, a quarter of construction may cancel out all these bold plans.

Also, construction companies can offer to use a special sash for external opening. This option is already better. At least all the glazing beads will be inside the room. Although it has no other advantages over the previous method.

You can only trust the window company that offers to use a special profile along with door locks and hinges. Only in this case will proper protection of the premises be ensured.

Which glass unit to choose

Double-glazed windows for the entire balcony structure can be used the same. The quality characteristics of the glasses used specifically on the door may not differ in any way from those inserted into the adjoining window.

The tips for choosing here can be universal. So, if you need maximum protection against cold and noise, you should choose an insulating glass unit with at least two cameras. There are usually no heating devices under the balcony door, so it is always quite cold below. This can create some problems. For example, the glass will start to fog up or mold will start to appear on the slopes.

Threshold

Many window companies use the most common sill for the manufacture of thresholds. There is nothing wrong with that, on the contrary, plastic is a warmer and more comfortable material than, for example, concrete. The plastic used here is quite strong, it is able to withstand a rather large weight, so that anyone, even the largest member of the family, can safely stand on it.

Truth, this statement will only be true if the threshold is set correctly. Otherwise, voids may form under the window sill, which will begin to cool the entire plastic structure, and eventually bend at all.

Plastic thresholds do not disturb the composition of the balcony group. They can be made in the same color as all other elements. Or choose a shade characteristic of the floor or walls of the room.

The walkway under the balcony door can be made from a window sill. The main thing is that the material is durable, and the installers follow the method of work.

The modern window industry is ready to embody almost any whim of the client. This also applies to balcony blocks. Today they can have non-standard sizes, open the way the client wants, and have the most original colors. And at the same time fulfill its main functions: to maintain a warm and calm atmosphere inside the house. So we can say with confidence: the time when people went to a balcony or loggia through wooden doors is irrevocably gone.
