Propagation of grapes by cuttings at home. Secrets of proper propagation of grapes by cuttings

I am expanding and renovating my vineyard in the simplest and cheapest way - I use grape cuttings that remain in large quantities after the autumn pruning.

At first glance, this procedure seems very easy. But not everything is simple in this matter, you need to follow some rules, namely:

  • Cut the planting material correctly;
  • Lay the cuttings for storage correctly;
  • Do the right rooting work.

Important! Growing grapes from seeds is a thankless task, and it is almost impossible to achieve success in this. At best 10-12 seeds grow from one thousand seeds.

To this it must be added that half of the plants obtained from the seeds are of high quality, and even they will not "inherit" the characteristics of the mother bush.

The experience of growers shows that the best time to harvest cuttings is autumn-winter, from mid-November to mid-December, when the leaves have already fallen, the harvest is harvested, and the vines are ready for the cold season.

At this time, useful substances are well preserved and are ready to endure winter frosts. For reproduction, take "naked" fruit lashes without leaves, antennae, shoots, from which cuttings 25-35 cm long are cut. Four buds are left on this segment.

The cut of the shank is made at a distance of 2-3 cm from the upper kidney, at an angle of 40-45 degrees, and the lower cut should be made under the lower eye in a straight line.

Experienced growers make vertical cuts at the bottom of the cutting. This operation accelerates the formation of young roots.

Carrying out the autumn pruning of unnecessary shoots, branches that bear fruit in the summer are used for cuttings. Their diameter should be 8-10 cm. A vine cut on a pinching knot is suitable for a cutting. The middle part of the fruit branch is also used.

Prepared cuttings are grouped by varieties, marked and tied in bundles of several pieces.

Winter storage of cuttings

  • The finished bundles are placed in cold water for a day to increase their natural moisture content;
  • Before planting, the planting material must be etched with a 5% solution of copper sulfate, after which it is slightly dried;
  • After that, the bundles are wrapped in plastic wrap and placed in a cold place, usually a cellar;
  • The cuttings put in storage are turned over to the other side several times during the winter months;
  • For future grape bushes, changes in air temperature in the cellar are undesirable.

How to turn a stalk into a seedling

To grow a full-fledged vine, it is not enough to choose the right piece of a branch and preserve it during the winter cold.

Before you start planting autumn cuttings in the soil in spring, you need to get them out of the cellar and ventilate them well. Then the planting material is checked for safety. If you press firmly on the "correct" seedling with your fingers, juice is released from the cut.

A rotten stalk smells unpleasant, and the juice flows out of it without any effect. With such a seedling, you should not waste your energy and time, the bush will not grow out of it.

It happens that during the winter the plant dries up, and no juice is released from it, such a stem is also discarded.

Important! Grapes are propagated by cuttings or spring layering not only at home. This method is also used in industrial crop cultivation.

Grape plantings will develop quickly if the shanks are well prepared. To do this, the selected best specimens are soaked in warm water before planting, this will wake up the dormant possibilities of the vine. The cuttings are soaked for two days.

To grow a good strong vineyard, cuttings must be carried out in accordance with all the terms and stages. Also, before planting, pruning, all components are needed - tools, fertilizers, utensils, and good weather conditions.

Germination of shanks

Autumn harvesting of grape seedlings at home is not limited to cutting the source material and storing it competently in winter.

Cuttings are germinated in a pot or other container before planting.

The step-by-step process can be determined by the following actions:

  • Holes are drilled in the pot for planting to drain excess moisture and ventilate young roots;
  • The composition of the soil should include leafy soil from under fruit trees, turf, peat;
  • Un-rammed earth is placed on the bottom of the dishes in a layer up to 5 cm thick;
  • A sand ring is formed in the center of the pot, filled with water;
  • A small depression is made in this ring, where the handle is placed;
  • Then the dishes are filled with substrate, watered abundantly and mulched with sawdust or sand.

Water the plant daily, but in moderation. It is better to plant the stalk in a plastic transparent dish, so you can see the emerging roots. During this time, 4-6 small leaves should grow on the shanks themselves, this is a signal that the plant is ready to move into the open ground.

For cultivation, it is convenient to take a 1.5-2 liter bottle of mineral water, and in the store to buy soil for growing plants, which has already been fertilized.

Saplings are planted in open ground to a depth of 0.7-0.8 m. When preparing a hole, fertile soil is laid in one direction, and clay in the other. Mineral fertilizers, ash, humus are added to the first, fertile heap.

Important! The success of growing grapes from cuttings largely depends on the condition of the soil. In fertile, light and loose soil, the plant will grow rapidly. Young leaves serve as an indicator of the state of the soil.

Unfavorable soil causes them to dry out along the edges. Watering with a solution of wood ash will help to save from this.

In warm areas planted "according to the rules" shafts yield a harvest in two years, but it is better to count on the first good berries in three or four.

There is another good way to make productive bushes out of shanks. But this method can only be used in warm areas. Having selected the most beautiful vine during pruning in the fall, it is cut into traditional stalks and buried at an angle of 40-45 degrees for permanent residence.

As needed, the petioles are watered, and with the onset of frosty days they are covered with foil or agrofibre and covered with earth. From such a planting, a strong fruitful vineyard is obtained. Try it!

Propagating grapes by cuttings at home is probably the most popular way to propagate grapes. Its popularity is due to its seeming simplicity.

In other words, many summer residents use it, following the rule: "I'll plant it, you see, something will work out." And why not try it, if the material for cuttings is at hand, and even when pruning grapes, you still need to put it somewhere. But not everything is so simple.

The correct harvesting of cuttings is half, if not more, of the success in the endeavor.

Conventionally, the preparation of cuttings can be divided into 3 important processes:

  • cutting cuttings;
  • storage of planting material;
  • preparation for rooting.

Cutting cuttings

Cutting cuttings is best done in the fall, after all the leaves have fallen from the vine, but before the onset of frost. The optimal timing is the second half of November and the beginning of December - during this period the vine is already ready for winter dormancy, therefore, the nutrients in the cut cuttings are better stored, and they tolerate low temperatures better.

It is better to use fruit branches for harvesting shanks - in this case, the chances of a final successful result will be much higher. For cuttings, you need to take straight (or at least relatively straight) sections of the vine. The cuttings should be long enough: the recommendations are reduced to the length of the shank of 50-70 cm, but experienced growers recommend cutting the shafts 120-140 cm long.

Chubuku is best harvested from the middle of a fruiting vine. Each stem should have at least 3-4 living buds and 6-8 internodes. Do not bother harvesting cuttings that are too thick or too thick - both of them do not take root well. Chubuki from 0.75 to 1 cm thick are considered optimal.

In addition to the timing of harvesting, the length and thickness of the cuttings, the correct choice of the mother bush is of great importance. Bushes affected by diseases or pests with damaged or deformed vines are not suitable for harvesting grape cuttings.

Storing cuttings

Before laying the cut cuttings for storage, they should be disinfected for half an hour in a 5% solution of copper sulfate or potassium permanganate. Then the cuttings are tied into small bundles - 8-10 pcs. If the cuttings are cut from different varieties, then the name of the variety is attached to each such bunch. Then each bundle is wrapped with a damp cloth, then with plastic wrap and sent for winter storage.

For a small number of cuttings, the refrigerator (but not the freezer) is an ideal storage place. If you plan to plant a large vineyard, then the harvested cuttings are best stored in the cellar by digging them into wet sand, but you need to constantly monitor the moisture content of the sand, periodically moistening it. Some gardeners prefer to store cuttings by burying them in the ground for the winter.

When stored in the refrigerator and cellar, you need to periodically check their condition and, if necessary, adjust the humidity or lower the storage temperature. Otherwise, the buds on the cuttings may dry out or develop in advance, and in both cases all the work on the preparation and storage of the shanks will go down the drain.

Spring preparation for rooting

Depending on the weather, in late winter or early spring, harvested cuttings wake up from hibernation. First, the removed cuttings are checked for "freshness": both edges of the cuttings are cut by 1-3 cm with a pruning shears.

If the wood in the place of the fresh cut turns out to be light green, and a drop of water protrudes on it, then the cutting is well preserved and can be planted for rooting.

If the cut site remains light brown and no signs of moisture are visible, then the cutting is most likely to die. You can try to make a second cut, stepping back from the edge of 5-8 cm, but the result is rarely encouraging. If, even without a new incision, water appears at the end of the cutting, and black blotches are visible on the surface of the fresh cut, then the cutting is rotten.

Cuttings that have safely undergone storage are first soaked in warm water for 2 days, periodically, 1-2 times a day, changing it. It is best to use melt water for soaking; you can take water from a well. Tap water is not suitable for soaking, since chlorine-containing agents are used to purify it.

For greater efficiency, you can add a little honey or aloe juice to the water at the rate of: a tablespoon to a bucket of water. After soaking, the roots are placed for another 12-18 hours in special stimulants that promote the rapid formation of roots, for example, root.

To make the effect of root-stimulating drugs more effective, 3-4 shallow cuts 1.5-2 cm in length are made with a sharp knife at the lower end of the cutting (the one that will directly be in the stimulator).

Germinating grape cuttings for beginners

This process can be done in several ways. The easiest to perform are sprouting in cups and bottles. You can also use plastic bags, buckets, wooden boxes for germination, but the germination technology is generally similar.

Germination in cups

Three small holes are made in the bottom of a large plastic cup using an awl or the tip of a knife. On the perforated bottom, pour 2-2.5 cm of a mixture of leaf humus and sod land.

The mixture is prepared in a 1: 1 ratio. Then they take a smaller plastic glass, cut off the bottom of it and place it in the center of the large glass. The space between the walls of the glasses is filled with earth, it is compacted and watered, after which the space inside the smaller glass is filled with washed river sand. The whole structure is poured over with water again, and then the smaller glass is removed.

A 4-5 cm hole is made in the center of the sand with a wooden stick and the lower end of the grape cutting is inserted into it, and again poured with water. A plastic bottle with a cut bottom is put on top of the planted stalk. The sand must be kept moist until 4-5 leaves appear on the handle. After that, the bottle can be removed from the handle.

Germination at home in a plastic bottle

Several holes are made in the bottom of a two-liter plastic bottle, and the neck is completely cut off. A small drainage layer is poured at the bottom, and 5-6 cm of soil mixture on top. The lower edge of the cutting is stuck into this mixture.

This must be done with jewelry: the upper peephole on the handle should be flush with the cut of the bottle. The space remaining in the bottle is covered with steamed sawdust and a plastic cup is put on top of the bottle. When the upper shoot develops so much that it becomes difficult to fit in a plastic cup, it is removed.

In both cases, a pallet is used for watering: water is poured into it and a container with a planted shank is placed on it for 15-20 minutes. The secret to successful germination is to provide the part of the cutting that needs to be rooted in a warmer and more comfortable environment than the part where the buds will develop.

Propagating grapes by cuttings is really easy if you know exactly what and how to do it. But at the same time, it requires attention and care at every stage.

To do this, it is better to germinate a plant of a structure with planted cuttings on the windowsill, but it is imperative that the upper peephole "look" in the direction opposite to the window. Germination usually takes about 3 weeks.

Planting cuttings in open ground

The final step in growing grapes from cuttings is planting rooted cuttings in open ground. Landing is carried out in the second half of May, when the threat of severe night frosts has passed.

First, a planting hole is dug for each cutting. At its bottom with a wooden stake or an iron crowbar, a recess with a diameter of 10-12 cm is made in the ground. The root system of the cutting is installed in this hole, covered with earth, compacted and abundantly watered, spending about 20 liters of water on watering one hole.

When the water is completely absorbed, soil is poured into the planting pit just below the level of the developed upper peephole. At the same time, it should be borne in mind that this peephole should be located in the planting hole 5-7 cm below the soil level. At the same time, a wooden or metal stake is driven into the bottom of the planting pit, which will serve as a support for the developing grape bush.

Propagation by green cuttings

Propagation of grapes with green cuttings is best done in mid-June. For propagation, 2 or 3 ocellular cuttings are cut. They are harvested from stepchildren or young shoots. At the bottom, the stalk is cut 4-5 cm below the node, at the top - 1.5-2 cm above the eye.

The cut cuttings are placed in a bowl of water (rainwater or well water, but not tap water). While the cuttings are soaking, several holes are made in the bottom of the 5 liter plastic bottle, and its top is completely cut off.

For planting, a mixture of deciduous compost and sod land is prepared, mixed in equal proportions. To make the mixture looser and more "airy", it is better to take the soil for the mixture from molehills, if possible.

The prepared jar is filled with potting soil. The mixture is poured abundantly and carefully compacted, for which the bottle is gently shaken several times and tapped with its bottom on a hard surface.

An important point: at the top of the can, you must first strengthen the wooden frame by deepening several rails into the bottle and fixing them. Then a green stalk is preparing for planting. In a two-eyed cutting, the lower leaflet is removed, and the upper leaf is left. In a three-eyed one, the lower leaf is also removed, and half of the middle and upper leaves are cut off to reduce the area of moisture evaporation.

3-4 cuttings are planted in one bottle, deepening them into the soil by 5-6 cm. After that, a cellophane bag is put on and tightly fixed on the top of the bottle on a pre-installed frame. The erected structure with planted cuttings is placed on the sill of the south window, and remains for women until rooting.

If everything is done correctly, then in the first 10-12 days no additional action is required. Then you need regular - once a week - watering and airing. Rooting lasts 5-6 weeks, after which the rooted green cuttings are planted in open ground using the same technology as the woody ones, and by October they have time to grow up to 40 cm in length.

Propagating grapes by cuttings is really easy if you know exactly what and how to do at each process of their rooting. But at the same time, you need to understand that any mistake at any of the stages can cause failure. Therefore, you need to approach each stage responsibly and never rely on "chance".

Cutting grapes is one of the most common and effective propagation methods. There are several types of it, which will be described later in the article.

Propagation using green cuttings

This type of propagation is excellent for introducing rare grape varieties into production, because plant parts are used as planting material, which are removed during the process of breaking off green shoots. This should be done in late spring, early summer in the evening. During the process, the best ones are selected for grafting. The shoots are placed in a bucket, sprayed with water and covered with a damp cloth. Then they are placed in the basement overnight.

Grape cuttings

For propagation of grapes with green cuttings, you should first prepare a box half a meter deep, which is covered with film or glass.

The bottom of the box is covered with a ten centimeter layer of fertile soil. About five centimeters of clean sand is poured on top. Then everything is watered with plenty of water. If there are a lot of seedlings, then a greenhouse is used for their reproduction.

Cutting planting scheme

Cuttings used for propagation should only be taken from the bottom or middle of the vine. If you take them from the top, they will rot.

Further, these broken off parts are cut into cuttings with two leaves. Moreover, the bottom sheet is cut off completely, and only half of the top sheet is cut off. Trimming the cutting should be done as follows: the bottom cut should be just below the bottom knot, and above the top should be a section of the vine with a length of 1 to 1.5 centimeters.

After pruning, the cuttings are placed in water as quickly as possible, and then planted in the sand to a depth of 3 centimeters and at a distance of 10 centimeters from each other. The planted cuttings are sprayed with water and the box is covered with foil or glass if planting is not carried out in a greenhouse. After that, they must be sprayed from a spray bottle or using a watering can with a fine sieve 4-5 times a day. Water is used with a temperature ranging from 20 ° C to 25 ° C. After 12 days, the rudiments of the root system will appear at the bottom of the cuttings. After that, the number of sprays is reduced to three per day.

Growing cuttings in a greenhouse

After a month, when the root system is almost completely formed, you can start hardening the cuttings. To do this, for several days in the evening, open a box or greenhouse for 10-15 minutes, gradually increasing the time until it can be left open throughout the day.

If in the future the cuttings are not left in the greenhouse, but they are planted in a school or already at a permanent place of growth, then this should be done according to a 10x5 centimeters scheme. In the future, care for the cuttings takes place as usual.

Technology of accelerated propagation of grapes from shortened cuttings

Reproduction of grapes by cuttings, shortened, allows the introduction of new fruitful varieties of sweet berries into production. To begin with, you need to prepare a well-ripened vine with a length of 1 to 1.5 meters with healthy eyes. Cut the cuttings two days before planting. From a vine 1.2 meters long, you should get seven shortened cuttings. The length of each of them is approximately 16 cm. The diameter in vigorous grape varieties is from 7 to 12 mm, and in medium-sized ones - from 5 to 9 mm.

At the stage of selection and preparation of the most suitable cuttings, stratification will be the most optimal solution. The planting material is first soaked for two days. Then they are transferred to plastic bags and placed in a cool, dark place. Once every five days, it is necessary to moisten them with water in order to in no case allow them to dry out. The stratification stage in this case will take two weeks.

Planting grapes with shortened cuttings is carried out according to the scheme:

  1. Site preparation and fertilization;
  2. Breakdown of seats. With the help of twine in the greenhouse, they make the central strip (130 cm wide) and the side ones (160 cm). Leave a distance of about half a meter between the stripes. These will be tracks. Then, using a special template, markup is made. The distance between cuttings in one row is 10 cm, and between rows 30 cm;
  3. Planting planting material. The plant is planted vertically (a slight slope is allowed). The cutting is immersed in the ground up to the upper eye.
  4. After planting, all cuttings are well watered.

Particular attention should be paid. A good water supply will help speed up the growth of the shoots and promote the formation of full-grown seedlings.

Preparing and planting lignified cuttings

Perhaps, every amateur gardener knows how to propagate grapes with lignified cuttings. You will have to take care of the preparation of the material in the fall. An ideal planting material is considered to be the middle part of the fruit arrow or a shoot cut into a replacement knot. Preparation of cuttings is as follows:

  • All stepchildren, leaves, antennae, shoots and unripe tops are removed from the branch.
  • Cuttings are cut, each must contain four buds.
  • The workpieces are sorted by grade.
  • The resulting bundles are soaked in clean water for 24 hours.
  • After a day, the cuttings should be etched with five percent copper sulfate and dried.
  • The bundles are wrapped in plastic bags and stored in the cellar.

A few weeks before planting in plastic cups or bottles, it is necessary to check the freshness of the cuttings. At this stage, rotten and dried cuttings are eliminated.

For germination of planting material, large plastic cups are best suited, in the bottom of which you need to make three holes with an awl. Then the glass is covered with a mixture of earth, sand and humus. Watering the seedlings is necessary every two days with warm water.

For a more detailed understanding of this process on the Internet, you can find a video of the propagation of grapes with green cuttings.

Video about seedlings from green cuttings

It is not difficult to propagate grapes with green cuttings in summer, the main thing is to correctly observe the technology of cutting, rooting and planting. Propagation by cuttings is the most effective way to grow a vineyard, especially in the northern regions. The option of bending the vine and sprinkling it with earth is not suitable for these areas, since the root system will be unstable to frost.

The correct procurement process is the key to almost 70% success. It is divided conditionally into three stages:

Slicing

It is important to decide: when and how they are harvested in the fall. You need to cut it after throwing off the foliage, before the arrival of frost. The shrub is ready for hibernation, valuable components are better preserved in chopped stems. Preference is given to fruiting branches, then the end result will be better. Straight and straight branches are selected for cutting.

The recommended length is about 70 cm, but some growers recommend increasing their length to 120 cm. It is harvested from the middle of the branch, it should have 3-4 living buds and up to 8 internodes. The optimum cutting diameter is from 7 mm to 10 mm. Too thin or large take root poorly. A healthy vine is selected for cutting, without being affected by diseases and pests.

Winter storage

This stage provides for the processing of the cut material. They are disinfected in a solution of copper sulfate or manganese. After the shanks, you need to knit several pieces. If they are of different grades, it is recommended to attach a tag. Wrap the bunch with a damp cloth, then a plastic bag, and the cuttings are ready for storage.

If there are not many of them, they can be stored in the refrigerator; with a large number, they are sent to the cellar, dripped with moistened sand, which must be periodically moistened. During storage, you need to monitor moisture and kidneys. If they dry up or swell ahead of time, the work will be in vain.

Preparation for rooting

In the last days of February or early March, the shanks need to be awakened from hibernation. They need to be checked for freshness: cut off both ends by a centimeter. If the cut wood is light with a green tint, a drop of water protrudes from it, it is suitable for planting. If the cut end is brown, cut off a few more centimeters. If the situation has not changed, the stalk is dead. If water comes out, but there are dark spots on the cut, the stalk is rotten.

Quality cuttings are soaked in water for about 2 days. If possible, you need to take melt water. Mains water is unsuitable due to its chlorine content. If desired, you can add 20 g of honey or aloe (juice) per 10 liters of liquid to the water. Then the shanks are placed in specialized growth stimulants, which contribute to the rapid formation of the root system.

Features of the propagation of grapes by green cuttings

The gardener also needs to know how to propagate with green cuttings. It is produced approximately in the middle of the first month of summer. It is necessary to cut the shanks with 2-3 eyes. At the bottom, the cutting should be cut 50 mm below the knot, and at the top - 20 mm above the eye. Then put them in a container of water. Make holes in the bottom of a 5 liter plastic bottle. For planting, the composition of the earth is prepared from compost (deciduous) and sod land. Fill the bottle with it. It is important to install a wooden frame made of slats and fix them.

Remove the bottom sheet of a shank with two eyes, leaving the top one. For a shank with three eyes, remove the bottom sheet, cut the middle and upper ones in half. This reduces the evaporation area. 3-4 shafts are planted, they need to be deepened into the soil by 5 cm. Put on a plastic bottle or a plastic bag over it. Place the structure at home before rooting. After 10 days, regular watering will be needed. The rooting process lasts about 6 weeks, after which they are planted in the ground, by October they will have time to grow by 40 cm.

Germination of grape cuttings

To get a vine, you need to decide: how to germinate and root the prepared material correctly.

The easiest way is to germinate in cups or bottles. If desired, boxes made of wood, plastic, buckets are used.

How is cup growing done? Using a sharp object, several holes are made in the bottom. 2.5 cm of leaf humus or sod land are poured into the container. Next, you need to take a second glass, a little smaller, cut off the bottom of it and put a larger one inside. Fill the distance between the walls of the glasses with earth. Condense the earth.

River sand is poured into a small glass, pour water again, then remove the small glass. Make a hole in the middle of the sand with a stick, insert the lower tip of the handle and pour water over it. Put on a bottle with a cut bottom. The sand should always be moistened until five leaves appear on the handle. Then the bottle can be removed.

Bottle rooting is similar. The top of the bottle needs to be cut off and holes drilled in the bottom. Put a drainage layer at the bottom of the container, then 6 cm of the soil mixture. A shank is inserted into it. It is done so that the upper peephole is located at the level of the cut of the bottle. The existing void is filled with steamed sawdust, a plastic glass is put on top. When the upper process will not fit, the glass is removed.

A pallet is used for watering (in both germination methods). Water is poured into it, and containers with the planted material are placed for a quarter of an hour. They germinate for about three weeks.

Planting cuttings in open ground

Planting in the ground is the final stage. It is recommended to plant in the second half of May, when frosts at night are no longer expected. It is important to know: how to plant correctly so that the planting material takes root:

  1. Prepare a hole for planting, make a cavity 10 cm wide in it with a stake.
  2. Place the shank into the hole, sprinkle with soil, compact and water abundantly.
  3. After absorbing the liquid, pour the earth into the planting pit, but not above the level of the first developed eye. In the hole, it is 5 cm below ground level. After that, install a stake made of wood, which will serve as a support for the growing shrub.

It is not difficult to plant sprouted cuttings, the main thing is to take care of the formed root system.

Propagation of grapes by cuttings in spring

Breeding is a laborious process that requires time and care. One of the ways is the propagation of grapes by cuttings in the spring (shanks) at home. It is ideal if you want to preserve all the characteristics of the mother vine in the future offspring.

Harvesting and storage of cuttings

It is very important to properly prepare the grape shanks. This is done in late autumn, when the bush has already thrown off its leaves, but there has not yet been a strong frost. To get good material, take the part of the branch that bore fruit in the season. It should be straight and at least 0.7 cm thick, not stiff. It must be cleaned of the remaining leaves, antennae, lateral shoots and cut into pieces, leaving at least four buds on each. In this case, the cut is made at an angle from above, and from below it is cut straight.

After the cuttings are tied in bunches and marked by grade. Be sure to disinfect them in copper sulfate diluted up to 5%. After drying, the shanks are ready for storage. They are wrapped in polyethylene and stored at a low temperature - in the underground or in the refrigerator. Digging into the ground is also practiced.

During the winter, the material is periodically checked and 1-2 times turned from side to side, and the storage conditions are also monitored. If the temperature is too high, the shanks can release shoots earlier than required.

Grape propagation by cuttings and spring preparation

In order for the propagation of grapes by cuttings at home to be successful, you need to prepare them by germinating in water and then in the ground. A week or two before the expected start of germination, in early February, the shanks are taken out of the storage area and checked if they are well preserved. If moisture is released from the cut when pressed, it means that the material has perfectly preserved its freshness. For the final check, a test is carried out: a new incision is made, which, ideally, should be light green, with no signs of rot.

Preparing cuttings for germination

Before propagating the grapes, the cuttings must be prepared. It is necessary to soak them in warm water for two days - this will help "wake up" the sprouts. Then it is recommended to soak the branches in a rooting-stimulating solution that can be found in horticultural stores (such as root, humisol, zircon). Very good results are obtained by stimulating growth and root formation with an aqueous solution of bee honey containing natural biogenic stimulants that help germinate and root plants. Its concentration is 1 tablespoon per bucket of warm water. The exposure time is 48 hours. Cuttings must be immersed completely.

Grape cuttings sprouting in the ground

The next stage in the propagation of grapes is the germination of cuttings at home in the ground. A glass or a plastic bottle will be of invaluable help here.

  • The first option is a matryoshka doll. They take two plastic glasses of different sizes and place one in the other with the condition that the vessel of a smaller volume fits freely into another with a margin of 2-3 cm. In a large container, a couple of holes are made with a nail or awl to drain excess moisture. A soil mixed with humus is placed at the bottom, about 2 cm. For a smaller glass, it is necessary to cut off the bottom and install the container inside the large one, fill the space between their walls with earth, crush it. Clean sand is poured into a small one, preferably river sand, moisten it. The glass itself is removed, and the grape stalk is buried in the sand by 4 cm, watered. The seedling is covered with a cut off plastic bottle without a lid or a jar - they make a greenhouse. In the future, caring for the plant consists in watering with warm water every 2 days. The greenhouse is removed when the roots grow to the walls of the vessel, and four new leaves appear on the branch.
  • Planting grape cuttings in bottles is even easier. Take a two-liter plastic vessel, cut off the top at the desired height, punch small holes in the bottom. Drainage is laid from below, 2-3 spoons of the substrate are added, into which the shank is buried by 4-5 cm. An important point: the first bud or peephole must be flush with the edge of the container. Cover the seedling with a greenhouse - a cut top from the same vessel or a glass. The position of the pet is with the eye turned away from the window. You do not need to water the substrate directly. It is enough to place a bottle with a branch in a tray of water for 15 minutes.

The process of planting in the ground

The final stage of work is planting sprouted grape cuttings at home in a vineyard on open ground. This is usually done in the first days of May. By this time, the seedlings should be well rooted. Fresh leaves have already hatched and grown on them.

Planting cuttings in the ground is as follows:

  1. Position the sprout so that the top eye of the planted cuttings is 5cm below soil level.
  2. Put fertilizers at the bottom, make a hole with a crowbar and put a seedling in it, cover it with earth, tamp it.
  3. Immediately after planting, the future bush is abundantly watered and hilled. Further care consists in watering and tying as needed.

The grapes for which propagation by cuttings was used may yield a harvest as early as next year.

Outcome

As it turned out, the propagation of grapes by cuttings is not such a difficult process, it is enough to follow the sequence and follow the recommendations of Vsad.
