Washing machine - how to connect it yourself at home with your own hands and avoid typical beginner mistakes. How to connect a washing machine - what did you forget, or maybe didn’t know? Connecting the machine to the water supply

When determining a suitable location for a washing machine, among other things, it is important to know its dimensions: height, width and depth, which should be studied at the stage of choosing a machine.

  1. Unpacking and installing the washing machine

When the washing machine finally arrives from the store to your home, you need to empty it from the packaging, remove the cardboard box, remove the foam, remove the shipping pallet on which it stands from under the machine, etc. (The box should also contain an instruction manual, don’t be lazy to read it.)

After the machine is freed from the packaging and moved to its designated place, it is necessary to remove the shipping (locking) screws securing the drum of the machine. These screws are installed by the manufacturer to protect the washing machine from damage during transportation. To remove them, you need to unscrew the screws located on the back wall of the machine using a wrench (it is not necessary to unscrew them completely) and pull them to pull out the rubber and plastic bushings from the holes, as shown in Figure 1.

If for some reason the bushing does not come out or, on the contrary, has fallen inside the machine (for example, if the screw has been completely unscrewed), they can be removed by removing the back panel using a Phillips screwdriver as shown in Figure 2.

In the holes formed after removing the shipping screws, you need to insert special plugs that come with the washing machine.

IMPORTANT! Attempting to start the washing machine with the transport screws installed may result in damage and failure!

The washing machine must be installed strictly horizontally on a flat and hard surface; a soft floor covering will contribute to an increased level of vibration of the machine.

After installing the machine, you should check whether it stands firmly by holding the top of the washing machine with your hands and shaking it; if the machine rocks on its legs, they need to be adjusted so that they all stand firmly on the floor. To do this, you need to loosen the lock nut using a wrench and then unscrew or tighten the leg (support) itself to the desired height by hand, as shown in Figure 3. After the desired height of the leg is set, you need to tighten the lock nut again with a wrench.

This completes the preparation of the washing machine for operation. The next step is to connect the washing machine to the water supply, sewerage and electrical networks:

  1. Connecting the washing machine to the water supply

The washing machine must be connected to cold water using the special hose that comes with it:

As you can see in the picture above, this hose has 2 outlets with nuts: one L-shaped (rotated 90 0) - for connecting to a washing machine, the second - straight, used to connect to the water supply system.

We screw the L-shaped outlet of the hose to the washing machine:

The hose is usually connected to the water supply through special taps with a thread diameter of 20 mm (¾ inch) for its connection.

NOTE: If the length of the standard hose included with the machine is not enough, you can separately purchase a similar hose of greater length at any plumbing store.

The most common way to connect a washing machine to a water supply system is to connect through a three-way ball valve (ball valve tee):

Most often, such a faucet is used when installing a washing machine under the sink (or near it), or in the toilet, in which case its installation will take no more than 20-30 minutes:

As you can see in the picture above, a three-way faucet can be installed at the point where the water supply hose of a mixer or toilet flush barrel is connected to the water supply; for this you need:

  1. Turn off the water supply taps.
  2. Using an adjustable wrench, unscrew the water supply hose to the mixer (toilet) from the cold water supply pipe.
  3. Wrap flax or FUM tape around the threads of the cold water supply pipe to seal the future connection.
  4. Screw a three-way tap onto the prepared thread of the cold water supply pipe using an adjustable (pipe) wrench.
  5. Screw the water supply hose of the mixer (toilet) onto the 15 mm external thread of the three-way faucet.
  6. Screw the water supply hose to the washing machine onto the 20 mm external thread of the three-way tap

That's all, the washing machine is connected to the water.

There are also less popular ways to connect a washing machine to a water supply system, such as installing a crimp coupling, for which a hole with a diameter of 10 mm is drilled in the water pipe, a crimp coupling is installed on this hole, into which a 15x20 mm angle ball valve is screwed:

Video of installing a crimp coupling for connecting a washing machine:

If there is no water supply near the installation site of the washing machine, you will have to run a separate pipeline to the machine by cutting it into the existing water supply system using special tee couplings, but it is better to entrust this matter to a specialist.

  1. Connecting the washing machine to the sewer

The washing machine is connected to the sewer through its drain hose, which, as a rule, should be installed above the drain elbow (siphon) into a sewer pipe with an internal diameter of at least 40 mm in order to prevent wastewater from being sucked back into the machine. In this case, the drain hose should be at a height of 60 to 90 cm from the floor level as shown in the figure below:

The easiest way to connect the machine to the sewer is to lead the drain hose directly into the sink, bathtub or toilet; in this case, the hose must be secured at the bend with a special bracket:

Another fairly simple way to connect a washing machine to a sewer system that does not require large investments is to connect the washing machine drain to a special branch of the sink siphon; if there is no such branch, you need to replace the existing siphon with a siphon with a special branch, attach a drain hose to it and clamp it with a clamp:

Video of connecting the washing machine drain to the washbasin siphon:

If the methods listed above for connecting the machine to the sewer are not suitable, you will have to cut special tees into the existing sewer pipe and, if necessary, connect a separate pipe to the washing machine, but it is better to entrust this matter to a specialist.

  1. Connecting the washing machine to the mains

The washing machine must be connected to the electrical network through a plug socket with a grounding contact and a rated current of 16 Amps:

The connection to this socket must be made with a three-core cable with a core cross-section of 2.5 mm 2 - for aluminum, or 1.5 mm 2 - for copper, i.e. it is necessary to use cable AVVG 3x2.5 (aluminum three-core cable) or VVG 3x1.5 (copper three-core cable):

In turn, the above cable must be connected through a rated current of 16 Amps and a leakage current of 30 mA (milliamps):

If the existing electrical wiring does not meet the above requirements for the washing machine, a separate line should be drawn from the input electrical panel, or from the floor panel if the machine needs to be connected in an apartment.

To connect the machine to the electrical network, you will need the following materials:

Work on connecting the washing machine to the electrical network is carried out in the following order:

1) In the selected location, install a socket on the wall using plastic dowel-nails 6x50 (holes for dowels in the wall are drilled using a drill or hammer drill with a Pobedit drill bit with a diameter of 6mm 2). Connect the cable to the outlet.

3) We install the difavtomat in the electrical panel, connect it to the power supply and connect the cable drawn from the outlet to it:

The difavtomat must be installed in an electrical panel on a DIN rail; if there is not enough space for it on the existing rail, an additional DIN rail must be installed.

The phase wire (red in the diagram, white in the cable) is connected to the upper contact of the existing circuit breaker of the apartment in which the washing machine is installed and is connected to the upper contact of the automatic machine.

The working zero (blue in the diagram and in the cable) is connected from the zero bus to the upper contact of the difavtomat, marked “N”.

The protective zero/grounding wire (yellow-green in the diagram and in the cable) is connected directly to the neutral bus, or to the grounding bus if available, it is important that the wires of the working and protective zeros in the electrical panel are clamped under different bolted connections, twist these two wires together and clamp them under a common contact Absolutely forbidden! 5

But not only heaters require connection to the water supply system. Often such an indispensable assistant as a washing machine is installed in the bathroom.

And if we have already looked at connecting a washing machine to electricity, then in this article I would like to talk about how to connect a washing machine to a water supply yourself, without resorting to the services of a plumber.

So, let's see how to connect the water to the washing machine so that it will help you with the housework for many years, working without interruptions and leaks.

Choosing a place to install the washing machine

Before you start connecting the washing machine, you need to do some preparatory work.

The first step is to decide on the installation location. Depending on this, you will need to select the length of the connecting hoses, as well as the place of insertion into the internal water supply system of your apartment.

You also need to decide in advance about connecting the automatic machine to the sewerage system and to the electrical network.

It’s good if, to do laundry, you don’t have to pull an electrical extension cord across the entire room to the next room, and the connections to the water supply and sewerage don’t form an incomprehensible tangle of hoses on the floor, constantly getting in the way and spoiling the look of your bathroom.

Think in advance about the place where your machine will stand. Access to it must be free to ensure frontal or vertical loading of laundry, depending on the design of the machine.

Often, when unloading/loading laundry, some small objects (towels, napkins, underwear) may fall, so access to the machine must be provided from different sides so that a towel or any other item that has fallen behind it can be easily reached without moving plumbing fixtures or furniture.

Most often, washing machines are installed in the bathroom or kitchen, under the sink, between the sink and the bathtub, next to the bathtub, behind the nearest wall in the kitchen.

Preparing to connect the automatic machine

After you have decided on the place where the washing machine will be installed, you need to calculate how long the connecting hoses will be needed and decide on the required fittings and the number of fittings.

The length of the hoses for connecting the machine should be determined taking into account the fact that they must be hidden behind pieces of furniture, under the bathtub, behind the toilet - that is, laid hidden so that you do not have to trip over them every day later.

If the length of the hoses included with the machine is not enough, do not skimp, buy special extensions with a reserve length, this will greatly facilitate their installation in the future.

To connect the washing machine to the water supply system, you will need a ball valve or ball valve. If you yourself cannot decide which shut-off valve is best to choose in your situation, then you can draw a diagram of the piping in the bathroom with a pencil on a piece of paper and with this diagram go to any nearest plumbing supply store to consult with specialists. At the same time, do not forget to put all the diameters on the diagram so that you know what taps and fittings you will need.

As a rule, the connection to water is made on a straight section of pipe with the installation of a tee, or a branch of the pipe is used, to which a flexible line from the toilet tank is connected. In some cases, it may be more convenient to make the connection at the location where the mixer is installed (at the cold water supply to it).

If it is not possible to connect to the extension of the pipe to connect the supply to the toilet tank or to the mixer, then you can use another method - make the connection using a special mortise clamp. In this case, you will have to purchase this clamp before connecting.

To connect to a steel pipeline you will need combed flax, gas wrenches, and adjustable wrenches.

Instead of flax, you can use FUM fluoroplastic tape, but installation on flax seems more reliable - it swells when exposed to moisture, and the connection seals very well.

To connect to the internal water supply system, you may need special equipment for soldering polypropylene pipes, as well as special fittings for plastic and metal-plastic.

Immediately before starting work on connecting the washing machine to water, do not forget to unscrew the transport bolts from its rear wall that secure the drum to prevent damage to it during transport of the machine.

When everything necessary to connect the washing machine to water has been prepared, you can proceed directly to making all the necessary connections.

Connecting old washing machines

Old washing machines did not know how to heat water themselves, so they had to be connected not only to the cold water pipeline, but also to the hot water supply pipeline.

The connection was made as shown in the figure below:

It is clear that it is more difficult to operate such a machine, so today one can see such a machine less and less often. Modern washing machines are high-tech products equipped with a thermostat, timer, software control unit for washing modes, a filter and a water supply pump, so we will not consider this connection method in detail in this article and will consider connecting an automatic washing machine only to a cold water pipeline .

Connecting the automatic machine to the toilet water supply

This is perhaps one of the simplest and most commonly used ways to connect a washing machine to a water supply.

This method is simple in that in this case it is not necessary to perform complex installation operations - you just need to twist the flexible line from the branch of the pipe, screw on the tee, and then connect back to the tee the flexible line from the toilet tank and a flexible hose for supplying water to the washing machine through the shut-off valve. faucet (or valve).

The same connection method can be used at the point where the water heater is connected to the cold water supply.

Connecting washing water to the mixer

If you have a separate bathroom or the extension of the pipe to which the toilet tank is connected is far away, you can connect at the location where the faucet is installed.

For this, a special tee with a ball valve built into it is used.

A tee is placed in the gap between the cold water connection pipe in the mixer and the cold water supply to the mixer.

This connection method is simple and reliable, but has one drawback - the hose for connecting the water to the washing machine will always be visible. If you choose this connection method, it would be better to remove the pipes and all connections under the tiles.

Connecting a washing machine to a metal-plastic pipe

You can connect to a metal-plastic pipe almost anywhere. To do this, you just need to cut the pipe and install a metal tee in this place to branch the pipeline to the washing machine.

After cutting the pipe, you need to measure the size of the tee, cut the pipe to the required length, put on a connecting ring with a nut, then use a special calibrator to flare the ends of the pipe at the junction with the tee so that the pipe can fit onto the fitting of the tee, then move it to the tee from both sides sides of the O-rings and tighten the nuts.

In order not to damage the pliable metal-plastic pipe after installing the tee, it is better to screw the shut-off valve to it in advance - before you cut the tee into the pipe.

After the tee is cut in, flexible water hoses are attached to the faucet screwed to it.

Connecting an automatic machine to a polypropylene pipe

The most difficult connection is connecting the machine to a pipeline made of plastic pipes.

Their installation requires a special heating tool that fuses the pipes and fittings at the joints.

2

A washing machine, especially an automatic one, is an absolutely necessary thing in the household. You just need to load the laundry and add detergent - and then the smart device will do everything on its own.

In order for a machine to operate for a long time and reliably, it must be provided with all the necessary conditions. Therefore, the moment of installation is very important. Correct connection will ensure high quality washing and trouble-free operation.

You need to think about where and how to park the car before purchasing. Its dimensions, power, and type of construction are determined not only by the wishes of the owners, but also by the availability of capabilities in the apartment.

Prerequisites for installation

The easiest way is to install the washing unit near the water and electricity connection points. In this case, there will be no problems with extending hoses and electrical cables.

The aesthetic component and ease of use should not be ignored either. For small apartments, the question arises whether the equipment will fit in the space intended for it.

Choose a place: in the bathroom or in the kitchen

Most washing machines find a home in the bathroom. This is the most logical choice of location, since water pipes and sewerage are usually located there. In addition, household appliances will be hidden from prying eyes.

If there is not enough space in the bathroom, you can consider connecting it in the kitchen or even in the hallway.

What you need to pay attention to:

  • The floor must be able to withstand vibration.
  • It may be necessary to lay communications over a remote distance.
  • When measuring distances, you need to take into account possible unevenness of the walls. Just in case, the nominal dimensions of the machine should be at least a centimeter smaller than the available space.

Water connection

For machine washing, like any other, you first need water. The following requirements are imposed on the water supply: the pressure in the pipes must be sufficient and the water must be clean. If these conditions are not met, you can install a pressure-increasing pump and filter the water.

A separate tap must be built into the pipeline to shut off the water supply to the machine. This significantly reduces the chance of leakage.

Power supply

The washing machine has a lot of power. Therefore, the electrical cables and sockets available in old apartments are usually not suitable for it.

Floor quality

Serious requirements are placed on floor construction. First of all, it must be solid and strictly horizontal, without obvious irregularities. In addition, the coating will have to withstand vibration from the rotating drum.

If the floor in the apartment does not meet these conditions, it needs to be strengthened in the place where the equipment is installed.

Plus air temperature

In an apartment, the washing machine is always warm. However, in a private country house or technical room, a long heating shutdown is possible. This is completely unacceptable! There is always water left inside the washing machine after washing. In cold weather it will inevitably freeze and rupture the hoses or even the pump.

Installation sequence

A new car delivered from a store must first be freed from packaging and shipping fasteners. Then it is connected to all the required communications and the height of the legs is adjusted. After this, the unit is ready for the first wash.

Removing the shipping fasteners

During transportation, moving parts are secured to avoid damage. If you do not remove these fasteners (bolts, brackets, bars), then when turned on the mechanism will inevitably fail. Necessary:

  • unscrew the bolts;
  • remove the plastic spacers;
  • remove the staples.

In place of the bolts, decorative plugs are inserted, which come with the machine.

Connection to water supply

Cold water is supplied through a flexible hose, which is included in the package. It is not recommended to make a completely rigid connection, since vibration will be transmitted through it to the pipe system and gradually destroy them.

The hose is connected to the water supply through a specially cut-in pipe or tee. It is usually equipped with a mesh filter to purify water from coarse contaminants. On the machine side, the connection is made through a standard threaded connection.

Draining

The easiest way to drain water is to lower the end of the drain hose into the bathtub or sink. But this is rather a temporary solution.

Most often, waste water is drained through a special splitter directly into the siphon under the sink. The hose should be long enough to form a loop that hangs down. There is always water in its fold, which prevents sewer aromas from getting into the car.

Adjusting the legs

The machine drum should rotate smoothly and without distortion. To do this, it is necessary that its upper plane be located strictly horizontally. This can be checked using a building level. If the deviation exceeds 2°, use the machine foot adjustment. All modern models have a threaded setting.

Do not place pieces of wood or pieces of linoleum under the legs. They may pop out during the washing process.

Power supply

The optimal solution is to connect the machine to the panel using a separate three-wire cable on which a circuit breaker is installed. To protect against a short circuit to the housing, an RCD device is used.

The socket must be grounded and mounted at a certain height from the floor level so that water does not get into it if there is a leak. In the kitchen, an outlet for an electric stove meets these requirements.

Video instructions on how to install a washing machine yourself

Features of installation in various conditions

When installing the machine, you need to think about the conditions and mode of its operation in advance. In accordance with this, you can take measures in advance that will help avoid problems in the future.

In a private house

When building or renovating a private house, you can create the necessary layout of pipes and electrical cables at the design stage. If there is a dry basement in the house, washing and drying equipment is often installed there. In this case, residents are not disturbed by noise, odors and dampness.

In the kitchen and in the hallway

The washing machine fits quite easily into the interior of the kitchen, although the washing process itself does not go well with cooking and eating.

It should be installed in the corridor only as a last resort.

In this case, many questions will have to be addressed:

  • where to find a place so that the car does not interfere with walking and opening doors;
  • how to hide installed communications (in the floor, walls);
  • how to hide equipment from the eyes of guests (built-in wardrobe, curtain).

On wood or laminate floors

The ideal hard and hard floor for installation is concrete. On wooden floors, the vibration of the machine increases and has a destructive effect on the unit itself and surrounding objects.

Various options for strengthening the floor are possible:

  • concrete a small foundation;
  • build a durable podium based on steel pipes;
  • At a minimum, install an anti-vibration mat.

None of these methods are comparable to a full-fledged concrete screed, but to some extent the unpleasant vibration will be reduced.

Installation of built-in machine

Built-in household appliances fit perfectly into any interior. Its wires and hoses are hidden behind the cabinets, and the front door completely matches the rest of the set. At the same time, such equipment is more expensive than free-standing equipment and its choice is not so wide.

Therefore, the question often arises: is it possible to build an automatic machine into a regular machine? It is possible, and in various ways:

  • just hide it under the countertop;
  • install a compact model in a ready-made kitchen cabinet;
  • make a suitable cabinet yourself, with or without a door.

You need to pay attention to the hardness of the base so that vibration is not transmitted to adjacent cabinets.

Installing a washing machine above the toilet

Considering the small size of most toilets, the idea of building a washing machine into them seems strange. But some enthusiasts manage to carry out this adventure.

Of course, you should pay attention to safety measures so that the unit does not fall on your head at a crucial moment.

  • Quality of walls. If the walls are fragile, you need to make a steel structure supported by the floor.
  • Sturdy hanging shelf. Made from a solid metal profile.
  • Safety edge to prevent the car from sliding off the shelf due to vibration.
  • Pull-out shelf to prevent laundry from falling into the toilet.
  • The mounting height should allow access to the toilet flush button.

It is better to place the machine behind the toilet, rather than directly above it. In this case, it is logical to choose a model with a minimum depth. And remember that for repairs, heavy equipment will have to be removed from the shelf and then put back again.

Why the car “jumps” and how to deal with it

Increased vibration is typical for recently installed machines. But sometimes time-tested equipment begins to bounce or even move across the floor. It is necessary to determine the reasons for this behavior of the machine before it completely fails.

The following options are possible:

  • Before installation, the fastening elements - bolts, brackets - were not removed.
  • The floor is not level enough, the machine wobbles.
  • On the contrary, the floor is too flat and slippery, then you can put a rubber mat on it.

The most easily resolved problem is that damp laundry has curled up inside the drum into a single lump. You need to stop the machine, distribute the laundry inside it with your hands and continue spinning.

There may also be factors of a technical nature. Only a repair specialist can identify and eliminate them:

  • The shock absorbers have failed.
  • The springs on which the tank is attached are worn out.
  • The counterweight mounts are loose.
  • The bearing has failed.

All these reasons must be eliminated immediately; operating a machine with such defects will inevitably lead to its breakdown.

The quality of installation of a washing machine depends not only on the connection of the equipment itself, but also on the choice of installation location. It is quite possible for any person to correctly assess the situation, take advantage of its benefits and compensate for the negative aspects. If communications are available, the installation process itself does not take much time. At the end of it, you need to carry out a test run - washing in an empty machine without laundry. If no extraneous noise is detected, the machine can be used.

When buying a washing machine, some apartment owners use the services of a specialist installer of household appliances. However, with the right approach to the matter, connecting is not difficult and can be easily done with your own hands. Sometimes it is advisable to save the family budget and carry out installation without service center employees. All you need is to have the most necessary tools at home and be careful.

How to install washing equipment yourself

Connecting a washing machine to the water supply with your own hands involves using two hoses (for supplying and draining water), as well as connecting an electrical wire. These products are usually included with the model you purchase.

However, in addition to these system elements, you will also need other parts, which are often purchased separately. These include:

  • electric outlet with protection against moisture penetration;
  • special ball valve, which stops the flow of water into the system;
  • siphon on a washbasin with an outlet in order to connect the drain hose;
  • for connection to cold water pipes you need tee.

Connecting washing machines must be done in stages. The step-by-step installation instructions are as follows:

Installing the product after unpacking

Immediately after delivery, you need to unpack your purchase and check the washing machine. The product must be free of defects and flaws. You must also make sure that the electrical wire and drain hose are in good condition. They are included in the package and are installed on the equipment immediately. If various types of damage, cracks or chips are detected on the case, you should replace the product by returning the faulty one to the seller. It is also necessary to check the integrity of all parts, pipes, and hoses.

Front-loading devices require special fastenings to transport the product. As a rule, these are special screws and spacers that prevent imbalance. Bolts to secure the machine are usually placed at the bottom. In order to remove them, you need to sequentially lift first one and then the other edge of the product and unscrew the fasteners with a wrench. In this case, you need to unscrew the adjusting feet as much as possible.

Such spacers and screws for transportation are also available on the rear panels of the equipment. These parts are necessary to fix the drum. They are unscrewed, the spacers are removed, and the holes are closed with special plugs that are included in the package.

If you have to install the washing machine yourself, you should know that the distance from the back panel of the device to the wall should be at least five centimeters. In order to position the product correctly, you can use a building level. If necessary, you can tighten the adjusting feet. It is necessary to level the device, as this will avoid strong vibration and the machine will last longer.

Connecting the machine to the water supply

Connecting a washing machine to the water supply is carried out in different ways. The connection method depends on the installation of cold water pipes in the room. Sometimes, when renovating a bathroom, owners plan to purchase household appliances and make a dedicated system for the washing machine, which has a ball valve.

Appearance of the ball valve

In this case, to connect you only need to install the hose that comes with the kit. If the installation of washing equipment was not planned, you will need to cut into the pipes or connect a tee at the point where the flexible hose of the washbasin is connected to the pipes.

Fittings are produced in two types - with internal and external threads. The diameter of the connection pipe should also be taken into account when purchasing this part. The hose that comes with the machine has a threaded nut. Therefore, the male thread at the tee outlet should be ½ inch in diameter.

Ball valve installation

Before you begin directly installing and connecting the machine, you need to turn off the water supply in the apartment. To do this, tighten a special valve, then open the taps and drain the remaining water in the system.

After this, at the desired mark, you should cut the pipe or disassemble the connection with the flexible line. When cutting, depending on the type of pipe, the threads are cut or the couplings are fixed.

The fitting is screwed using a fluoroplastic sealant tape and an adjustable wrench. Then connect the hose and liner. There is a plastic nut at both ends of the hose. To connect it to the tap, use a straight edge. In the case where household appliances do not have a special leakage protection mechanism, a ball valve must be installed between the hose and the tee.

The end of the hose that is bent at a right angle is connected to the washing machine. First you need to put a cleaning filter in it. It is attached with the protruding side towards the car. In this case, the nuts on the hose are tightened manually, without effort. A special rubber gasket ensures the tightness of the connection.

Discharge into the sewer

Before connecting the washing machine to the sewer with your own hands, you should decide on the method of water drainage equipment.

Organization of water drainage

It can be discharged directly into the sewer system, as well as into the bathtub. The second option does not provide for connection. You just need to lower the corrugated hose into the bath before turning on the equipment. However, this drain option is not very convenient and unreliable. When the wash cycle is running, you won't be able to use the bathroom. In addition, you need to make sure that during the draining process the hose does not fall from the edges of the bathtub, because then there is a risk of flooding the apartment.

Connecting parts when connecting to a sewer

The drain is discharged into the sewer using a siphon with an outlet or connected directly to the pipe. It is advisable to comply with the relevant requirements. The hose must be bent in such a way that at the top the distance to the floor is at least 70 - 80 centimeters and a special shutter is formed.

If the drain is connected to a siphon, you need to check the pipes for clearance and make sure that they are not clogged.

Power supply for washing machine

Since washing equipment is often placed in bathrooms, and this is a place with a high level of humidity, it is necessary to take care of safety. The electrical outlet into which the device will be connected must be moisture-proof. It must have a ground connection, since the body of the machine is made of metal.

In new buildings, as a rule, all grounding standards are met. And if you are connecting equipment in an old house, and only two wires are connected to the outlet, do the wiring through a residual current device with a leakage current of no more than 30 mA.

Test wash when first turned on

When purchasing a new machine, experts recommend turning on the first wash cycle to check that all connections are correct. As a rule, the instructions indicate the mode and weight of the loaded laundry for a test wash. These recommendations must be followed to ensure long-term use of the product. Before you turn on the machine for the first time, you need to make sure once again that it is level and not loose. If necessary, you need to adjust its position again.

We plug in the machine, open the ball valve on the hose, then select the washing mode. Pour or fill in the detergent into the powder compartment and press the program start button.

Starting a washing program

While the washing process is in progress, it is recommended to monitor the connection point of the hose on the panel of the washing machine and to the water supply. In this case, there should be no leaks anywhere. Faucets normally do not hum or make other sounds that may indicate a breakdown.

If water leaks in any place, after turning off the appliance and completing the wash cycle, you should check the connections for leaks. Leaks can occur due to misalignment of the nuts or insufficiently tight seals.

Subject to operating conditions and careful handling, washing equipment will not break down for many years. It is recommended to clean the filters on the water supply hose from time to time. To do this job, first stop the flow of water using a ball valve, unscrew the nut from the hose where it connects to the machine, pull out the filter and carefully remove any dirt from it. Such cleaning must be carried out frequently; if the tap water is bad, its quality leaves much to be desired.

Installation of washing machines without using running water

During the summer holidays, many people go to the countryside or to the village. Country houses do not always have running water, and they have to do laundry often. To solve this problem, many owners connect an automatic washing machine using various tricks, or install old models of equipment. A good choice in this situation is a washing machine without running water.

Washing machine for the cottage

To connect, you will need a special water pump and filters.

Step-by-step installation

To connect the automatic machine, you need to connect the drain hose. He is taken out into the yard. For this purpose, cesspools and ditches are used. In this case, water usually has to be supplied manually. The main thing is to ensure the supply of water on time and in the right quantity, but the method is not important. This can be a fixed connection or through a container for washing powder. Some people use rainwater to wash clothes because it is softer.

However, this method of connecting a washing machine has significant disadvantages. You'll have to bring a lot of water. In addition, you need to constantly monitor the operation of the equipment in order to fill it with water in a timely manner.

In the case where there is a source of clean water on a site near the house, you can build a small water supply system. To do this, you need a pumping station that provides pressure to supply the liquid. It also requires a filter. These important components are not cheap.

Water purification filter

For some models of washing machines, the option of installing a water tank above the appliance is also suitable. The mass of liquid in this container will provide pressure in the hose, but this may not be enough for the machine to fully operate.

Sometimes old models of rotary-type washing machines are used for dachas. There is no need for them to create pressure in the system. It should be taken into account that the quality of washing in such models of equipment is low, in contrast to an automatic machine.

When deciding to install washing equipment in a country house, you need to carefully consider which system and model will suit you best. It is imperative to take into account the quality of water in the area, since hard water without the use of special softening agents often leads to damage to the washing machine.

As it turned out, installing a washing machine in the bathroom yourself does not require special skills. But it will help you significantly save your family budget. The range of household appliances for washing today is very large, so you can always choose the model that you like for your home.

Installation of washing equipment

To avoid flooding, short circuit, or breakdown of the washing machine, when connecting it yourself, you need to adhere to a number of rules, choose the optimal installation location and method of connecting to communications

Modern washing machines perform many operations, and human participation in the washing process is minimized: load sorted laundry, add powder, press the necessary buttons, and after a few hours pick up clean, wrung out items. There is only one difficulty: for the machine to work, it must be connected to the water supply, sewerage and electrical networks. Errors at the stage of installation and connection to communications are fraught with serious problems.

How to connect it to ensure its uninterrupted operation? Of course, you can use the services of specialists in this area, or you can try to connect it yourself, which will allow you to save money on installing the machine.

Before connecting the washing machine to the water supply, sewerage and electrical networks with your own hands, you need to decide on the location for its installation. In private houses, a washing machine can be installed in a special laundry room, and in apartments this equipment is sometimes installed in kitchens, and most often in bathrooms.

When choosing a specific area in the bathroom, you need to take into account the availability of free space and the location of communications. You need to plan where the washing machine will be located before purchasing it. to choose a model that will “fit” into the available space.

When choosing a location for installing a washing machine, you need to consider the following factors:

  • proximity to communications necessary to connect the washing machine (electricity, water supply, sewerage);
  • having a flat floor surface on which the washing machine will be installed;
  • placement efficiency in terms of ease of use;
  • harmonious addition to the interior of the room, in which the washing machine will be located.

Some useful tips when choosing a location:

  1. If the bathroom area is small, the space will be used most efficiently if you install the machine in a corner or niche of a suitable size. But it is recommended to maintain a gap of 2-3 centimeters between the body and the walls.
  2. It is extremely undesirable for the machine body to come into contact with metal - cast iron pipes, heated towel rails, radiators.
  3. There must be enough space in front of the machine (or above it, in the case of vertical loading) so that the hatch can be opened.
  4. It is very important to install the washing machine on as level a surface as possible.
  5. It is advisable to locate the machine at such a distance from communications that the standard length of the included hoses for supplying and draining water is sufficient to connect to the water supply and sewerage system.

Hoses can be extended, but this increases the load on the machine pump, and any additional connection is an additional risk of leaks.

Step by step guide

Before you begin installing and connecting the washing machine to the water supply and sewerage system with your own hands, carefully read the installation instructions, as well as this article, which will help you connect your washing machine easily and effortlessly to ensure smooth operation.

Preparation

After delivery of the equipment, it must be unpacked, freed from polystyrene foam and adhesive tape and carefully examined, check the completeness and make sure there are no defects. Then you need:

  • Unscrew the transportation bolts with a wrench;
  • insert decorative plugs in their place;
  • remove the staples;
  • remove the transport bars (if any) by slightly tilting the machine backwards;
  • fold and hide shipping parts - they may come in handy when moving.

Care should be taken to remove these parts before turning on the washing machine, otherwise the presence of transport parts that have not been removed when starting the washing machine can lead to irreversible consequences in the form of breakdown.

Minimum set of required tools:

  • wrench (set of wrenches);
  • screwdriver;
  • level.

Sometimes it is already embedded in the water supply system outlet with shut-off valve for connecting a washing machine. If it is not there, the set of tools and components depends on the material of the pipes; tees are best equipped with an angle valve to cut off the water supply:

  • For iron pipes— a crimp clamp, a screwdriver, a file for cleaning the surface of the pipe, a drill with a drill bit with a diameter of 6-7 mm.
  • For metal-plastic pipes– tee, calibrator, wrench, hacksaw or special cutter.
  • For plastic pipes– plastic tee, special scissors for cutting polypropylene pipes, welding machine for polypropylene, fum tape, gaskets.

To connect to the sewer, depending on the chosen method, you need:

  • special siphon with outlet;
  • kit for installing a sewer outlet - pipe, fittings (tee, coupling);
  • rubber cuff.

To connect to power you will need:

  • A grounded socket is required;
  • waterproof extension cord with grounding - if the power cord is not long enough;
  • portable RCD (residual current device) – desirable to ensure safe operation.

Drain installation

There are three options for draining water from the washing machine:

  • hook the drain hose using the hook attachment onto the edge of the washbasin or bathtub and secure it;
  • connect the end of the drain hose to the additional socket of the siphon;
  • make a branch from the sewer pipe and lower the end of the hose into its socket.

The first option is very unreliable, vibration can cause the hose to become disconnected from the bathtub (sink), fall to the floor and flood the room.

In the second case, the hose should not pass along the floor, it needs to be fixed in a stationary mount on the rear panel and placed on top.

When discharged directly into the sewer The drain hose of the washing machine must enter it at least half a meter high from the floor, and the bell is often located lower. Therefore, the socket of the additional elbow must be raised to the appropriate height.

Reliable fixation of the hose pipe in it is ensured rubber cuff.

Below is the simplest diagram of connecting a washing machine to the sewer without a siphon - the drain is connected directly with a hose:

Connection to the water supply system

The machine comes with a water supply hose, one end of which is connected to the corresponding hole on the rear panel, and the other to the water pipe. It is preferable to connect the machine to a cold water supply system, since its design includes a water heater, but it is impossible to cool hot water.

All work on inserting taps and tees must be carried out with the water in the riser shut off!

Depending on the specific conditions, there are many options for connecting the washing machine to the water supply. The simplest case is presence in the drainage system with a tap for an automatic washing machine, a flexible hose is simply connected to this outlet; if the thread diameter does not match, an adapter is used.

A diagram of a simple connection of a washing machine to a water supply looks like this:

If the machine is located near a washbasin or bathtub, it is possible to connect the hose to the pipe using a walk-through tee tap. The faucet can cut between the hose and pipe in the following places:

  • at the point of water supply to the washbasin faucet;
  • above the bathtub, between the mixer with a nut and the eccentric coming out of the wall;
  • at the place where the hose is connected to the toilet cistern (if the bathroom is combined or a hole is drilled in the wall between the bathtub and the toilet).

Sometimes, if a mixer with tap and shower is installed above the bathtub, and on the washbasin there is a separate mixer, the tap (spout) above the bathtub is unscrewed, and the washing machine hose is connected in its place, if its length allows.

If the machine is located far from the bathtub, washbasin, toilet, the outlet cuts into the pipe closer to the installation site of the equipment. The procedure depends on the material of the pipes.

Iron pipes

  1. The pipe is stripped of paint and irregularities are removed.
  2. Parts of the crimp clamp are applied on top of the rubber gasket on both sides, the guide sleeve is fixed in the hole of the gasket, they are attached and the bolts are gradually tightened so that there are no distortions.
  3. After securing the clamp, a smooth, round window in the rubber gasket should be visible through the hole in the guide sleeve; if it moves, it is necessary to tighten the bolts on one side for alignment.
  4. The water is shut off along the riser and a hole is drilled in the pipe using a guide bushing.
  5. The mixer is slowly opened, the remaining water is drained from the pipe and the metal dust is washed off at the same time; in addition, the hole must be wiped with a piece of bandage or toilet paper to remove dust and shavings.
  6. A tap, preferably an angular one, is installed on the clamp to cut off the water, and a hose is connected to the thread.

Metal-plastic pipes

  1. On a straight section without bends, a piece is cut out of the pipe corresponding to the installation length of the tee.
  2. The ends of the pipe with pre-installed nuts are expanded with a calibrator to the required diameter (so that the tee fitting fits in).
  3. A fitting with a tightening ring on is inserted into the expanded hole until it stops, and the nut is tightened (the tee must be held so that it does not turn). A similar operation is repeated on the other side.
  4. If the tee is equipped with a tap, it is better to install it before inserting into the pipe.
  5. A hose is connected to the tee.

If the faucet is constantly leaking, it's time to change the faucet. Find out, .

Did you know that you can buy a small and very convenient water heater that can even be installed on a faucet? on how to install an instantaneous electric water heater in a shower.

Plastic pipes

  1. The pipe is cut, the remaining water is drained, and the ends are wiped dry.
  2. The joints between the pipe and the tee are heated by a welding machine and after 5 seconds are soldered, first on one side, then on the other.
  3. The hose connection point is sealed with fum tape.

Leveling with a level

Strictly horizontal position of the machine is the key to its long service life, even a slight misalignment can lead to serious damage.

The easiest way to check whether the car is positioned correctly is to press down on each corner sequentially. She should not stagger, succumbing to pressure.

You can also Place the level on the top plane of the machine and attach it to the side wall. If there is a skew of water in the window, you need to adjust the height of the machine legs to compensate for the slope or unevenness of the floor. To do this, the fixing nut is loosened, the leg is rotated in the direction of lengthening or shortening, and after reaching a stable position, the nut is tightened until it stops.

Connection to the power grid

If the house has a grounded outlet (three-wire), located near the bathroom, everything is quite simple, the power cord of the washing machine is connected to it.

If there is no such outlet, you need to take care of its installation, It is better to entrust this to a professional electrician. To connect it, the distribution panel must have a neutral or grounding bus; a three-wire cable runs from the panel to the socket.

If you have an unused electric stove socket in your home, you can install an socket with a grounding contact in its place, with a grounding wire already connected to it. In this case you will have to use an extension cord, it must also have a grounding contact, and if it is used directly in the bathroom, then it must also be waterproof.

With time Wiring insulation may be damaged If such damage is not identified and repaired in a timely manner, equipment may break down and people may be electrocuted.

To protect yourself in such situations, it is good to use p Easy to install portable residual current device. It will also minimize the risk of electric shock if the washing machine is connected to a regular two-wire network without grounding.

Checking work

After all connections have been made, you must perform a test run of the washing machine. All operations are performed, but without loading laundry.

Turns on first washing mode, you need to make sure that the tank is filled with water, the heating elements are working, and there are no leaks anywhere in the places where there are taps into the water supply, connecting the hose to the water supply and to the machine.

Then the spin starts the presence or absence of leaks is monitored in places where water is discharged into the sewer. If leaks are detected, the connections need to be sealed and sealed as much as possible. If everything is fine, you can start washing according to the instructions.

It is quite possible to install and connect a washing machine yourself; sometimes the communications system already provides everything necessary for such a connection, if the water supply and sewage systems are old, the task becomes more difficult, requires additional tools and consumables.

Connecting to the mains is the easiest step if there is a grounded socket and the most difficult in its absence. In this case, if you do not have sufficient qualifications, it is better to invite an electrician. It is important to remove the shipping parts, position the machine strictly horizontally and carry out tests before using it.
