Have you ever had to run to the store an hour before the chimes to buy green peas, cheese or a loaf of bread? Chaotic New Year's shopping always leads to wasted time and money: you either forget something or buy too much.

To avoid this, make three detailed lists:

  1. How many guests will there be (including children).
  2. What will be on the menu (specific recipes).
  3. What you need to buy (from red caviar to skewers for canapés).

Based on the number of people, you will understand how much food you will need. And recipes will help you buy exactly as much food as you need.

Lists are convenient to create and edit in applications. For example, in or.

2. Stick to Simple Snacks

Holiday salads are usually very labor-intensive. For one you need to boil eggs, for the other you need to fry onions and carrots. And also sandwiches and slices. But is it worth the trouble? When served correctly (in a beautiful salad bowl or in portions using serving rings), even the simplest salad will become festive.

The fastest way is to prepare a salad in which the ingredients do not require (or almost do not require) cutting or other processing. Here are some examples.

Salad with grapes and chicken

Take 200 g of chicken, cut into cubes, add 50 g of grapes, 100 g of feta cheese, cut into cubes, a handful of pistachios and a bunch of arugula (tear it into large pieces). Season everything with a sauce of 1 tablespoon honey, 1 tablespoon grainy mustard, 2 tablespoons olive oil and 1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar.

Salad with mushrooms and beans

Take 200 g of small pickled champignons and mix them with three chopped boiled eggs and 100 g of canned white beans (don't forget to drain the liquid). Add chopped herbs, salt and mayonnaise to taste.

Salad with fish and apple

Mash a can of canned mackerel with a fork, add a can of green peas, a diced sour apple and two boiled eggs (also cut into cubes). Season with salt and sour cream.

3. Start preparing the day before

If you can’t imagine a New Year’s table without the traditional Olivier salad, herring under a fur coat and aspic, then start cooking on December 30th.

1. Boil carrots, potatoes, beets, eggs and chicken breast. Overnight in the refrigerator they will not deteriorate and will not lose their taste.

2. Fillet herring and other fish for slicing. This can be done quickly if you use one of the . But it’s still better to finish the fish in advance so as not to smell it before the holiday. To prevent the fish from drying out in the refrigerator, cover it with cling film.

3. Marinate the meat. If there is no vinegar in the composition, then you can safely put the meat in it the night before. If there is, then it is better to start preparing the main dish in the morning.

4. Use kitchen hacks

They really make life easier and speed up the process.

1. Grate all the cheese and distribute it among containers (salad, chops, etc.). This way you won’t have to wash the grater a hundred times when starting a new dish.

2. Chop and peel the onion at the same time.

3. Cut the potatoes in a circle and after boiling, dip them in cold water to easily peel them, the wife makes salads, and the children serve and decorate the table.

If you are entertaining guests, assign each person a dish to bring. This way you will evenly distribute the pre-New Year's chores and spend a minimum of time in the kitchen.

So, let's decorate the table for the New Year with our own hands

New Year's table decoration

Package of ideas No. 1

"New Year on a plate"

Any serving consists primarily of plates and cutlery. As a rule, the plates are empty. And all the New Year's beauty is located around them (candles, napkins, figurines of New Year's characters). Let's do it differently. Let's fill the guests' plates with New Year's decorations. Small gifts - cute symbols that decorate this holiday.

In the photo below we see how ordinary pine cones turned into a cute New Year's boutonniere to decorate every plate on the New Year's table.

The cone can be painted from a can gold or other paint (spray cans are sold in hardware stores or auto stores). Or you can paint the cone, dipping it into a glass of PVA glue diluted with colored gouache. This way the cone will be evenly colored both outside and inside, under the scales.

Can I just have a bump? POWDER with gouache, dip a foam sponge in gouache and poke it into the bump. Only the edges of the scales will be painted (you will get the effect of aged retro painting). This pine cone will look good paired with other retro elements (a dried orange slice, cinnamon sticks, a star cut out of cardboard and a napkin). Of course, you need to understand that the painting color is chosen according to the shade palette of the overall New Year's table setting.

Or you can put 2-3 Christmas tree decorations on a plate. Place a napkin tied with a colored ribbon and a golden bag with cookies in the shape of stars or angels nearby.

You can wrap Christmas tree decorations in a bag made of a bright colored paper napkin, tie it with a ribbon, and slip a pine twig under the string.

Or you can simply not throw away the lower branches-paws cut from the tree, but cut them into small fluffy paws, decorate them with a large crystal bead and tie them with a ribbon. If there are no beads, then you can make a voluminous paper snowflake with your own hands (miniature delicate shape), or crochet it, add a ribbon, a piece of a picture cut out from a New Year’s card - and a beautiful coniferous decoration for the New Year’s table is ready. Cheap, fast and original - beautiful for your guests.

If you don’t have pine legs from your Christmas tree, find an evergreen fir in the city and break off branches from it. Combine them with a picture from a postcard, or with New Year's caramel - and you will get an original decoration for the New Year's table.

“Coniferous greens + candles”

Using coniferous paws (spruce or pine) is the most natural way to create a New Year's feast atmosphere. Living green pine needles smell like a holiday, heated by the warmth emanating from the candles, the pine needles will exude a forest spruce aroma. And besides, this is a conditionally free material for decorating the New Year's table - I just went into the forest and cut it here and there with a knife, without causing damage to nature, I just thinned out the Christmas trees.

Candles can also be interestingly arranged inside these pine legs. Place small glasses and place candle tablets in them. Or take an ordinary round log (small in diameter) and cut a hole in it - using a drill and knife. Insert a tablet candle into this recess as well.

You can place shiny Christmas balls next to the pine paws - you’ll get the effect of a Christmas tree right on the table. This is the most successful decoration for the table, which you do not plan to clutter with snacks, since you plan to change dishes, which will be served by specially hired staff.

Well, if you cannot make the entire table with such a wide coniferous-Christmas tree path, then for you there are smaller decorations with spruce legs. You can decorate the New Year's table with small (plate-sized) compositions with candles. In the photo below we see that an inverted glass can become an excellent stand for thick candles. Coniferous spruce legs will serve as decoration for such a New Year's candlestick.

You can make a tabletop wreath for the New Year's table from coniferous branches and cones, as in the photo below. Such a composition will not take up much space on the table - and it would not hurt to place salad bowls and cold cuts around such an installation with candles.

How to decorate a New Year's table

Package of ideas No. 3

"Cones in serving"

Simple pine, spruce or cedar cones can be a key decoration for your New Year's table. Large cedar cones can be placed with their tops up inside the container - and we get a Christmas tree shape (pictured below on the left). You can hang the cones on the corners of the table, or along the edges of the plate. But you need to make sure that they do not interfere with the guests, do not hang too low, clinging to the tights of the invited ladies.

You can make green tabletop Christmas trees from large cones and place them here and there between plates of snacks (right photo below). Or you can glue together a fluffy three-dimensional Christmas tree from a bunch of small pine cones. It's quite simple. We make a cone out of thick paper (A3 format), and cover this cone with hot glue with cones. The cones can be pre-painted with gouache using a foam sponge for washing dishes.

You can arrange the pine cones in serving vases, or here and there on the table, alternating with fresh straw or pieces of forest moss. You will get a decoration for the New Year's table in a fashionable eco-style.

If you paint the cones with gouache, you can turn them into an elegant decoration for the festive table. We mix pva glue with gouache - more glue, less gouache, and in this liquid we drown the cone, take it out and dry it by hanging it by a thread) we get an evenly colored cone.

"Crafts made from paper and felt"

Simple silhouettes cut out of cardboard can become small but important serving elements. New Year's outlines of a deer, snowman, Christmas angel made of paper can completely change your New Year's table. They can be used to decorate a glass (photo below).

Cardboard silhouette of a deer bust can be stuck in into a Baunt chocolate bar and, put 2 ice cream sticks at the bottom, and we get original craft for decorating the New Year's table. Or, for example, a white marshmallow can turn into an iceberg into which you can stick a cardboard penguin. Your imagination can continue to generate ideas from sweets and cardboard to decorate the table for the New Year 2018.

You can also cut out and fold small voluminous Christmas trees from paper with your own hands. For example, the Christmas trees in the photo below are made from just two pieces of cardboard, and even a 4-year-old child can cut, score and insert such a Christmas tree into each other crosswise.

But below are Christmas trees made of round paper silhouettes. We have a training article on our website where you will find detailed instructions on assembling these paper Christmas trees, and not only these

You can also cut out slots like these from white cardboard for inserting napkins. We insert the triangular tip of a folded napkin into the slot and get the image of Santa Claus. The tip of the napkin sticks out to imitate his hat, and the bottom of the napkin looks like his red robe.

You can also make these pockets for cutlery from soft felt (or thick cardboard, it doesn’t matter). These crafts will decorate your New Year's table.

Even the simplest shapes cut out of felt (or puff paper napkin) can set the New Year's mood for the holiday table. Below we see how a small slot in the silhouette of a CHRISTMAS TREE or STAR makes it possible to insert cutlery or a paper napkin into it.

You can also sew (or glue) a ring for table napkins from soft felt. Also a simple solution for decorating the New Year's table in an original way.

You can also cut out small silhouettes of Christmas trees from felt and wrap them around a glass - you will get candlesticks like in the photo below (a round dance of Christmas trees around a glass). And besides, from the cotton napkin itself you can fold a New Year's star, or a red New Year's flower. Detailed instructions for origami from table napkins for the New Year I’ll post it in a separate article a little later and then the link will work here.

New Year's table setting

"Red + green"

The classic color combination of the New Year's palette is red and green. Green is the color of the Christmas tree, and red is the color of Santa Claus and his bag of gifts.

You can create a green and red New Year's table setting with a combination of green and red tableware. Or red dishes + green napkins and green decorations (Christmas decorations, beads, etc.).

Here's an idea for a floating candle made in the same lush New Year's color scheme - green twigs and red cranberries.

New Year's table decor

"Red + white"

We usually don’t have red dishes in our house; more often we buy white plates. And then we can combine the white color of the dishes with the red color of other paraphernalia - napkins, candles, Christmas balls.

You can scatter red beads on the table (of course, provided that there are no small children in the house who want to stick them in their noses or ears). In this case, it would be better to scatter snowflakes and stars cut out of red paper on the white tablecloth.

You can modify a boring white tablecloth with a pleasant addition, buy a piece of red fabric at a fabric store, and hem the edges with a machine (so as not to fray). We place the red cloth in the center, along the table. On a red background we scatter snowflakes and stars cut out of white paper. Some of the paper silhouettes can be sewn with threads (small stitches) to the canvas itself. So that even hanging from the edge of the table, the red canvas holds this New Year's pattern).

You can buy red felt backings for white plates (as in the photo below). Or make these felt coasters yourself. In stores, felt is sold in squares of 30x30 cm, all that remains is to pick up a hole punch (an ordinary office one) and stamp openwork pattern holes along the red felt squares. You can use scissors to cut felt into a circle or heart shape (as in the photo below).

You can also do something very original and set the New Year’s table in the form of snowmen. We go to a store or market and buy identical rectangular plastic napkins (they cost mere pennies). If you want it even cheaper, you can buy a roll of wrapping paper for wrapping gifts and cut it into rectangular napkins (with a wavy edge). Or even more budget-friendly - the remains of expensive embossed wallpaper with a textured white pattern can also be used as a source of hand-made napkins.

Next, we will need two plates of different diameters. This will be a snowman. Olives and a piece of orange pepper will become the nose, eyes and buttons. We make a scarf from a red napkin and a bucket hat from black paper.

How to decorate a table for the New Year

"Red and gold table setting"

If you want to celebrate this holiday on a grand scale, then the combination of the energy of fire and the energy of gold will help you feel the real luxury of the holiday.

The glare of the garland reflected in the golden sides of the Christmas tree balls on the table will create the feeling of fireworks. Golden sparkles of champagne, red pine cones with gilding, shiny gold ribbons on napkins, golden chocolate coins scattered on a red tablecloth - and other red and gold ideas that can only come to your mind.

You can order on the website Masters Fair designer napkin rings, to those craftsmen who quickly weave beads. From gold beads and gold ribbons you can make many interesting attributes to decorate the New Year's table.

You yourself can make an interesting thing with your own hands to decorate the table setting. Here in the photo below you see a scattering of green and red beads. We buy thin wire (copper or special for crafts) and buy a thread of red beads and a thread of gold beads (Christmas tree or jewelry, it doesn’t matter). Next, we string them on a wire and twist them in different directions (forming branches of various shapes).

You can lose such wire with beads among the spruce branches laid out on the festive table, mix them with large Christmas tree balls and bright ribbons.

New Year's table setting

"Gingerbread Tale"

Here's an interesting idea on how to decorate the table with New Year's pastries. You can bake shaped cookies decorated with icing and decorate a New Year's pine garland on the table with them.

Gingerbread cookies can be combined with other elements of New Year's table decoration, candles, Christmas balls and toys, figurines, garlands, beads and shiny tinsel.

You can bake several (or one) gingerbread houses and make them the key decoration of the New Year's table. It's actually very easy to make a gingerbread house.. Simply roll out the gingerbread dough into a single layer on cardboard. Then we cut out the outlines of the walls on the dough - two facade walls + two side walls + two halves of the roof. That's all. Place these parts directly on a sheet of cardboard onto a baking sheet and bake. Then we cool the finished shortcakes and glue them into a house. We make glue from caramel (melt the caramels in a saucepan) or make it (cream from proteins and powdered sugar) - it also glues perfectly. And when the house is glued together, it’s a pleasure to decorate it with pieces of marmalades, chocolates, marshmallows, sugar dragees and other sweet decor. You can learn more about the recipe for durable gingerbread dough and sweet confectionery glue from any article about gingerbread houses.

You can bake less complex designs from gingerbread dough - for example, an edible candlestick (pictured below on the right by the glass). From the dough (rolled out on a baking mat), cut out a circle the size of a saucer, and cut a hole inside with a glass. Place the cut out cookie shapes nearby. We bake all the parts. We insert a candle-tablet into the hole in the circle, and use a knife to cut holes on the side where we insert the gingerbread cookies. And our gingerbread candlestick for decorating the New Year's table is ready.

New Year's table setting

"Frost Breath"

And your white dishes can become part of another serving setting. You can become the director of a winter frosty fairy tale. Collect blue and silver details, transparent glass ice cubes, gray glossy bugle beads, decorative crystals and rhinestones in blue and cold-white transparent shades on the table.

Place large, long candles in tall glasses. Fill the space between the candle and the wall of the glass with beads, sparkles, artificial ice shards, which are easy to make with your own hands if you cut an old CD into small pieces with scissors. Or another cheap option for filling is to make a fluffy Christmas tree garland from foil and use scissors to cut its “fleecy fur” into small pieces and pour it into glasses with candles. Perhaps you yourself can come up with other options for filling the candlestick.

We also have an article on our website. There you will find options that you can embody in blue material and decorate your table with them.

Buy a can of silver paint at a hardware store (or auto store). On the street, cut birch branches (you can have the remains of leaves on them), cover the branches with silver paint. Beautifully lay the silver branches, as if frozen by the winter breath, on a wide dish, place candles nearby, and arrange silver New Year's balls. And scatter beads in the form of crystals on the table (cheap beads (in bulk in a large bag) can be bought at a craft store, or in beading stores.

The easiest way to decorate a New Year's table setting is to place Christmas tree balls in blue and turquoise shades in a deep vase made of transparent colorless glass, mixing them with a string of New Year's tree beads. Pour blue sparkling beads into cups (a little at the bottom) and drown candle tablets in it.

You can make a silver Christmas tree in the center of the New Year's table with your own hands. We just cut out a semicircle from thick paper. We roll it into a cone, fastening the joint with a stapler. Next, cut out a ribbon from silver paper (preferably a jagged shape) - or buy silver lace, jagged or even shaped braid. Now, starting from the top of the cone, we glue and wrap this tape (from paper or from a store) around the cone - in a spiral - winding the turns from top to bottom in a circle, helping them stick to the walls of the cone. It is better to use a glue gun - a special hot melt glue. A gun can be bought for $2 at any craft or construction store (market) and glue sticks for it cost just a penny.

Table setting for the New Year

"FROZEN TENDERNESS".

Early winter morning. Gentle frosty dawn. The play of the morning sun on frozen window panes covered with a bizarre pattern. All this gentle play of color and light can be an inspiration for creating a unique New Year's table setting.

Let the dishes be white and the tablecloth too. But napkins can be sewn from fabric the color of a smoky dawn (just buy such fabric in a store, cut it into squares and take it to a clothing repair center to have their edges sewn on a sewing machine).

Can buy spray can with silver-gray paint and cover it with pine cones, apples, and ordinary white candles from the store.

Buy bags with dawn-colored beads– and pour them into cups with candles. Add more stuff from transparent colorless glass– to convey the airiness and transparency of a frosty morning.

Buy a clear, thick plastic filing folder (hard plastic). Using stencils from the Internet, cut out New Year's silhouettes (Christmas trees, snowmen, etc.) from this plastic - place them on the table (for stability, stick them into soft pieces of marshmallow - excellent marshmallow coasters are made). Some transparent figures can be coated with nail polish and sprinkled with lilac sparkles from the same nail polish.

You can buy a hair clip with a lilac rose at a hair clip store and also put it in the composition on the table. In a sewing accessories store you can find beautiful rhinestones, ribbons and braids of a suitable color. All this can be laid out on the table in a cloud of snowy feather fluff, or a small “boa” (also sold in a sewing accessories store). As you can see, ideas for decorating the New Year's table can be taken from anywhere. Just set yourself a goal... remember in your mind the color palette of your future New Year's table setting and while walking around the shops, just catch your eye on the accessories of the shade you need.

New Year's table decoration

"GAME OF COLOR".

You can use a completely unexpected color to decorate your New Year's table setting. Clear spring shades (more Easter than New Year's) can look unexpectedly interesting on the table in the New Year. We take gouache and pine cones - dilute the gouache with PVA glue in a glass, dip the pine cones - dry them by hanging them by strings - and we get a budget-friendly decoration option. In a flower shop, we choose flowers of the same shades and form a bouquet arrangement for the New Year's table. This design looks good in apartments of modern, cool, high-tech design.

You can take only 2 colors of the palette (for example, pistachios and soft blue) and combine them in different types of decorative compositions to decorate the New Year's table.

Table setting for the New Year

"Golden Luxury"

A beautiful option for decorating the New Year is a combination of white and gold. Of all the golden shades, we choose the one that is light, not heavy, but light in saturation. This way it can easily be combined with snow-white dishes and other white attributes of New Year’s table setting.

Simple solutions are everywhere. Tie white candles with a gold ribbon. Coat the cones with nail polish and sprinkle with gold nail glitter. Buy a golden fluffy garland and golden Christmas tree toys (balls, stars, boots, angels) from the store.

Buy a can of gold paint and cover regular nuts (walnuts, peanuts, pistachios) with it. We also cover shells, cones, and wooden snowflakes made from ice cream sticks with gold spray from a spray can.

Buy gold paper and cut flowers out of it. , will help you implement very simple things. You will be surprised what simple solutions there are for solving this problem; in fact, a 5-year-old child can make a voluminous paper flower.

You can cut out a round piece of cardboard from a pizza box and use decorative material (ribbons, rhinestones, beads, gold paper) to make a clock with the New Year's hands set to five minutes to midnight. Romantic table decoration for the New Year.

New Year's table decoration

Housewives spend a lot of time New Year's interior decoration, they are decorating all the rooms, decorating the New Year tree. And in order for the New Year's interior to sparkle with even greater colors on New Year's Eve, you need to take care of decorating the New Year's table.

For the New Year, you can also use the usual banquet menu. But in this case, the festive night will lose its magical charm. The New Year's table should be especially beautiful and rich, and the treats should be tasty and original.

New Year's table decoration

The table is set in the same style. First of all, you need to decide on the color scheme. Traditional colors for this holiday are white, red, green, blue, gold and silver. Serving in a classic white style looks great.

A snow-white tablecloth, white porcelain and napkins, Christmas tree balls sprinkled with “snow,” transparent crystal - everything reminds of the coming of winter. A good choice would be the color red, a symbol of well-being and breadth of soul. Royal and merchant families traditionally set tables in this range. This color makes the table very elegant, but you shouldn’t overload the table setting with it. For example, ribbons tying pine bouquets, napkins, and candles can be red. Golden is the color of wealth and luxury.

For serving, you can use glasses with a golden rim, compositions of Christmas balls and tall candles in this color scheme. A festive mood will be created by golden ribbons wrapping around champagne bottles and wine glasses, sparkling tinsel (with its help you can divide the table space into zones). These details, symbolizing family wealth, will decorate the New Year's table and make the atmosphere more solemn. You can choose any other color scheme for serving, but it is important to adhere to it even in the smallest details.

Tablecloth

The tablecloth is an important serving detail. It should cover the entire table, hanging down on all sides by 20-30 cm. You can use a white linen tablecloth with water-repellent impregnation, but to surprise guests, it is better to complicate the task. For example, cover the table with a plain white tablecloth, and lay a smaller tablecloth on top of it made of the same material, but of a different color (for example, red). Or attach shiny foil to the tablecloth, pin paper flowers and snowflakes to the woven drapery. Another original option is to put glass on the table and place a photo collage or golden confetti under it.

Dishes

For serving it is better to use a service. Each guest or family member gets several plates. First you need to place a small dinner plate, a snack plate on it, and a pie plate on the left side. Place a knife to the right of the shallow plate (sharpened side of the blade towards the plate), and a fork to the left (concave side up). It is advisable to place one salt shaker for every two devices.

In front of the plate, glasses and glasses are placed in a semicircle from left to right in this order: first a glass for mineral water and other non-alcoholic drinks, then a glass for champagne, a clear glass for wine and, finally, a glass for strong drinks (vodka, cognac or liqueur). In the center of the table you need to place a vase with fruit, vessels with pepper, mustard, and vinegar. Cold snacks should be located closer to the center. Wines and other drinks are also placed as close to the center as possible, along the middle line of the table in different places.

Napkins

With the help of such simple serving elements as napkins, it is easy to “revive” the New Year’s table and make it more elegant. Napkins in the shape of candles will look great, but you can do it simpler: roll them diagonally or roll them into a tube and tie them with ribbons, braid or rain. The composition will also be decorated with napkins under the cutlery.

Design options for napkins for the New Year's table

Candles

Candles are the most important attribute of the New Year. They must be present on the table. It is advisable to prepare beautiful decorative candles in advance, however, ordinary ones can be turned into New Year's candles if you wrap them in a spiral with serpentine or strips of foil.

You can paint the candles with gouache and sprinkle them with multi-colored crumbs from colored cinders left over from last year. Candles in tall candlesticks look good on the table. If there is a lot of space, you can place a glass vessel with cold water, strewn with dried flowers or golden confetti stars, in the center of the composition, and then float floating candles on the water. Don't forget that candles are fire and should be handled with care.

Christmas decorations

The easiest way to decorate a New Year's table is to place Christmas tree decorations, balls, ribbons, and bells on it. You can create magnificent compositions from them if you approach this issue with imagination. But at the same time, you need to try to avoid clutter, otherwise the guests will not feel too comfortable at the table. You can make wonderful flower vases from shiny Christmas balls.

To do this, you need to carefully remove the metal cap with a thread loop and wire holders from each ball, pour water inside and place a flower stem, such as an orchid, in it. To prevent the impromptu vase from turning over, you need to place it on an elegant stand. A wonderful addition to the New Year's table setting (especially if there is little free space on the table) will be confetti stars, cut out along a drawn outline from thick shiny foil. If you scatter them between the candles, the flickering fire will spread across them with bright highlights.

Needles and cones

You can’t do without the aroma of fresh pine on New Year’s Eve. But putting even a small Christmas tree on the table is not very practical, and not only because it will take up too much space. Just needles can get into the plates and spoil the impression of a carefully prepared treat. Spruce, pine or juniper branches should be present on the table in the form of various compositions.

You can make small bouquets from branches, fasten them with red, gold or silver ribbons and place them between the plates.

Another option is to place elegant vases with coniferous bouquets on the table, and hang candies in shiny wrappers or New Year’s cookies baked for the holiday on the branches. If there is very little space on the table, you can decorate a composition of Christmas tree balls, candles, and fresh fruit with a fluffy green branch. Fir or pine cones will not take up much space on the table, but will make the atmosphere more festive and solemn. If the table setting is designed in golden tones, it is advisable to paint the pine cones in advance with golden spray paint. If the pine cone still has a tail, you can tie an elegant ribbon to it.
