DIY hanging chair: options for every taste and color. Ways to make a comfortable hanging chair with your own hands How to make a hanging chair with your own hands

The hanging chair is a comfortable and unusual garden furniture designed for relaxing outdoor activities. This device appeared in the 50s of the last century and for a short period has become an integral part of the house, claiming to be a truly comfortable home.

The beautiful "cocoon" can be used as a swing, a place to sleep or meditate. It is noteworthy that it is easy to make a hanging chair for a home or a summer residence on your own using available tools.

Users often search:

Types of hanging chairs

Currently, there are several types of products:

  1. With a rigid rattan plastic frame. The structure is covered with sturdy fabric. A vine is also used as a base.
  2. With a soft frame (reminiscent of a hammock). The main difference is the size: the chair is smaller than the hammock and therefore takes up little space. Such a product adjusts to the human body, which means that it is convenient both to sit and lie in it.
  3. Cocoon chair. A distinctive feature of this modification is the 75% hidden interior space. This effect is achieved thanks to the woven walls - macrame. "Cocoon" will appeal to those who love secluded relaxation, hidden from prying eyes.
  4. "Drop" - usually used in the children's room. In appearance, the chair looks like a small house, sometimes it is equipped with doors. Great rocking chair for a child.

Self-made hanging chair

Making a comfortable hammock for a comfortable pastime is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance. First you need to prepare the necessary parts:

  • Metal hoop with a diameter of 90 cm.
  • A piece of sturdy cloth, 3 m long, 1.5 m wide.
  • Braid, interlining or dublerin.
  • Eight meter sling.
  • Steel ring for mounting the structure to the ceiling.
  • 4 iron buckles.
  • Sewing accessories, centimeter and scissors.

Let's dwell on the choice of a hoop. The following materials at hand can be used as a supporting structure:

  1. Gymnastics hoops... Aluminum and plastic are not suitable for this purpose, since they will not withstand the load of an adult's body. Only steel models can be considered. The maximum cross-section of such a hoop is 16 mm, while 32 mm is needed to make a durable product, which is twice as much (for a wicker chair, this figure should be 40 mm at all). However, a gymnastic ring is perfect for a kid's version. The small cross-section is compensated by the multi-layer filler.
  2. Softwood... Such hoops are lightweight, but require careful processing, as moisture and heat contribute to the destruction of the tree.
  3. Plastic water pipe... Perhaps the best option for implementing an idea. PVC is a cheap and durable material. The hoop is made by rolling the cut part of the pipe into a ring. For fastening, parts made of wood or plastic are used.

The list of materials suitable for creating a hoop is not limited to the listed options. Everyone chooses the basis for the frame himself - it all depends on imagination.

Preparing the cover

Cutting material for a hammock chair requires accuracy and care. If in doubt, it is better to leave a small supply of fabric, in the future it can be removed without problems.

The principle is this: measure seven times, cut one.

  1. First, take a 3-meter piece of fabric and cut out 2 squares from it - 1.5 meters in length and width each. We add both 4 times. In the corner in the center, mark a circle with a diameter of 65 centimeters. Draw a line along the marked points. Cut out the same circles from each square. We move away from the edge of the circle 4 centimeters and draw a dashed segment.

    Cutting out the squares

  2. Place two holes on the first circle. They are designed for slings. Next, fold the fabric 4 times and iron it. We take folds as landmarks. Two slings should have an inclination of 45 degrees, the others - 30 degrees. Having selected the corners, open the circle and re-iron. As a result, axes are obtained, indicating the points of the slit for the sling.
  3. We select the necessary holes on all axes - rectangular shapes 10 cm wide and 15 cm high. Y is marked in the inner part. A cut will take place along its contour. We fold the circles together, but in such a way that the threads do not overlap with each other. Because of this, the cover will be able to withstand the load better. Put the circle on top. We cut the marks on two circles at once.
  4. Bend the ends of the cut holes to the opposite side. We attach braid along the perimeter of the figure or process it with doublerin so that the material does not crumble. Next, cut through completely and sew along the edge, leaving 3 mm.

    Bend and stitch the edges

  5. Leaving the marked 4 centimeters at the edges, we connect the circles to each other, highlighting the slot for inserting the hoop. We cut the left gap so that we get teeth along the entire edge. We turn out the cover with the front side and iron it.
  6. Cut out the filler in strips, then sheathe the hoop (preferably in 2 layers). We insert the processed structure into the cover. Moving the ring towards the edge, sew all the circular parts at a distance of about 7 cm from the end.

    Insert and sew the hoop

  7. Turn the edges of the unstitched cut for inserting the hoop inside out. We carefully cut off the allowances on the front side so as not to damage the correctness of the circle. We connect the edges and sew on a typewriter, leaving a few millimeters. We move the frame to the stitched end, sweep the fabric by 7 cm.

    Sew the edges

  8. Sintepon mode through the slots and push it inside the material, securing it with threads. We close the side holes with a blind seam. Then we fix the cover on the hoop, stitching it along the verified 7-centimeter outline. After every 4 stitches we wrap the knot. Further rows are made at a distance of 7 cm from the previous one, so that thick fabric can gather into soft folds.
  9. Lanyard mode for four 2-meter segments. Better burn the edges over a flame. We push the end into the hoop through the prepared slot. It is necessary to fold so that a loop forms. With the help of a needle, we cut and sew a line. The algorithm is the same for all lines.

    Attaching the slings to the hoop

  10. We push the end from each into the buckle, then into the ring and again into the buckle. It is necessary to weave everything well in order to be able to change the height and inclination of the chair. The ring serves to collect the lines.

Making a wicker chair

The macrame technique allows you to create original products yourself.

Photo: an egg-shaped wicker hanging chair - a comfortable place for reading books in the fresh air

This unusual structure consists of several circles intertwined in macrame. For such an "egg" you need the following details:

  • 2 metal-plastic rings with a cross section of 35 mm. One for the backrest measuring 1.1 m, the other for the seat 70 cm.
  • Polyamide 4mm thread, 900 m long. In the store, ask for a version with a polypropylene base that guarantees strong knots.
  • Twelve meter slings.
  • 2 tight ropes for connecting hoops.

It is worth mentioning that rings of a smaller diameter are also suitable for the product, since these characteristics are the maximum for a chair. It is better to buy the thread of the required length immediately in order to avoid differences in color or quality. After preparing all the parts, you can safely start working on creating the "egg".

Any patterns are suitable for weaving the back. The cord is attached to the top. The work is going down. On the lower hoop, the knots are tightened, the rest of the threads are collected in tassels. The design requires reinforcement with 2 wide cords connecting the seat to the backrest. Slings are attached to the finished product - and the hanging chair "egg" takes its well-deserved place in the summer cottage.

Having made such a device, you will get a cozy corner for secluded relaxation and forget about problems and stress for a long time!

Anyone at least once wanted to sit comfortably for a rest and gently sway in a cozy hanging chair, wrapped in a warm soft blanket. Many summer cottages are currently decorated with suspended sofas, armchairs, and seats. The basis of each of them is an ordinary rocking chair.

The materials for their manufacture are quite popular rattan, vine and various artificial materials. Currently, artificial materials are gaining popularity. They are stronger and lighter in weight, easy to connect and more durable.

The suspended structure is either ceiling-mounted or attached to a specialized swing base. Hence their common name came from a swing chair or rocking chair.

All suspensions are subdivided into braided, fabric, hard and soft varieties. The difference in them lies in the form and materials used for manufacture. The frame base is made of solid material.

Rigidity is given by rattan, vine, metal, plastic. For softening, inserts from various soft tissues with fillers in the form of padding polyester or foam rubber are used. During the execution of a hammock chair, a fabric base is made, which is suspended from the ceiling.

Model types

The variety of the model range of hanging chairs is amazing. There is always a large number of samples to choose from to create your own design. But, if you are ready to show your imagination, then making a hanging rocking chair from a photo or your own ideas will not be difficult for you.

Hanging swing

The lightness and reliability of the structure, made of soft or hard materials, decorates any corner of the house or summer cottage. For manufacturing, you will need a thick rope and a strong textile base.

Cocoon armchair

It is similar in shape to an egg, made of dense rattan or vine material. The walls present give a sense of privacy and secrecy.

Hanging chair made in a hoop

This type of chair is very simple to make. You need a metal hoop braided with strong threads. The finished swing is suspended using dense ropes to the base or to the ceiling.

Hanging wicker chairs can be attached to a special stand or mounted on the ceiling. This is determined by the area of the room or the space of the territory in which it will be located, as well as the desire of the owner of the chair.

Process of creation

For the independent production of a hanging chair, it is worth remembering:

  • in the swing type of chairs, strong fabrics, special rope, wooden tiles are used;
  • in a suspended cocoon, willow or rattan rods are used, as well as any other flexible branches;
  • plastic or metal hoops for matching samples.

Regardless of the type of hanging chairs, it is necessary to use durable textile fabrics, high-quality fasteners and ropes.

To make a frame hanging chair you will need:

  • a pair of gloves;
  • measuring tape and scissors;
  • metal hoop;
  • connecting ring;
  • polyamide tape or thread;
  • foam material;
  • suspension ropes.

Stages of connecting parts

On the basis of the frame part, we wrap the foam rubber and glue it. On top of this layer we wrap a tape or rope of fasteners. The frame parts do not have to be the same size; the parts range from the largest to the smallest in the shape of the chair.

The connected main part is fixed to the ceiling with ropes and a ring. In the future, softening pillows or a mattress will need to be laid on the blank of the chair, for a more comfortable pastime in it.

To attach the chair to the ceiling, it is worth making sure that the strength meets the requirements. A hook is mounted in the ceiling, on which the swing is suspended.

In the absence of the possibilities and desire for installation in the ceiling, you can use special racks that are easy to move and do not bring unnecessary trouble.

The use of various designs of hanging chairs in the country or in the house creates a special individual interior. They can be used indoors, on terraces and in open areas.

But you should be aware that in open areas it is necessary to use non-wet materials. Hanging chairs will create comfortable conditions for both adults and young children.

Easier than conventional stationary. Of course, it will not be possible to make an acrylic bubble chair at home, but the rest of the product options - a basket, a hammock, a wicker cocoon chair, are quite feasible.

The model is chosen based on the skills that a home craftsman possesses.

This is the easiest option available even with minimal experience with a sewing machine. To make it you will need:

  • a piece of fabric 1.2–1 m wide and 2 m long. The denser the fabric, the more load it can withstand, besides, dense fabrics are more resistant to wear and tear;
  • scissors, centimeter;
  • sewing machine and iron;
  • nylon rope;
  • wooden plank or bar;
  • steel carabiner.

The color of the fabric is chosen depending on the style of the room. The color of the ropes is usually white, as brightly colored ropes are difficult to find.

Manufacturing technology is simple.

  1. The fabric is folded in half along its length, measured from the upper right corner of the edge (not along the fold line) 40 cm and a segment is drawn from the mark to the lower right corner. Cut off a fragment and unfold: the pattern should be in the shape of a trapezoid. In such a simple way, an angle is formed so that the result is a hammock chair, and not just a hammock.
  2. The upper and lower edge of the "trapezoid" is tucked in, ironed, tucked in again and stitched on a sewing machine.
  3. The sides are tucked at exactly 90 degrees, twice, so that there is a cavity for pulling the rope. A seam is sewn on a typewriter.
  4. In a wooden block of the required size, 2 holes are drilled on each side at a distance of 2 cm from the edge and from each other. The bar can be painted or simply opened with varnish.
  5. The ends of the rope are burned to prevent loosening, a knot is tied on one side, then the rope is passed through the hole in the bar to the knot. The cord is pulled through the side edge of the hammock from the side of its wider part, and then passed through the second hole on the same side of the bar. The size of the rope loop obtained determines the height of the hammock and the size of the chair, therefore, before fixing the knot next to the bar, you need to make sure that its parameters are satisfactory.
  6. The rope is passed through a second hole on the other side of the bar. This loop is suspended by a carabiner from the ceiling hook, so it must be long enough to position the hammock in the air.
  7. Then the cord is passed through the second edge of the product from the narrow top side, and pulled through the first hole on the other side of the bar.
  8. Adjust the position of the rope until the shape and height of the product suit the future user. Then the rope is tied in a knot, and the excess is cut off.
  9. A hook is fixed to the ceiling or ceiling beam, the finished hammock is hung on it.

The following video contains a master class that will tell you how to make a hanging hammock chair with your own hands:

Braided product

Any material with sufficient flexibility is suitable for making with your own hands - willow vine, grape, rakita, bird cherry, rattan, bast. But, since it is easiest to find thickets of willow or broom in middle latitudes, willow twigs are the most popular raw material.

For a hanging chair you will need:

  • about 400 pcs. young willow twigs with a diameter of 10–20 mm;
  • it is easiest to use a ready-made metal or metal-plastic hoop as a frame. If necessary, you can make it yourself from a hollow tube of the required diameter;
  • a knife, ruler, awl and round-nose pliers will be needed when weaving;
  • twine and glue are required to strap the frame;
  • synthetic cord with a diameter of 4 mm, close in color to the vine - for the back of the product. With enough skill, you can also weave it from a vine;
  • slings (ropes) for hanging - the length depends on the height of the ceiling.

The appearance of the product is determined by the weaving technique. With minimal skill, it is recommended to work with a simple single weave. If you have experience, you can weave a more complex pattern.

In the simplest version, the hanging chair is manufactured in this way.

  1. A cross is made - 3-4 thick rods are tied with a cross using twine greased with glue. The length of the rods is equal to the diameter of the future seat.
  2. They wrap the cross with a thin rod so that it alternately turns out to be below and above the cross bars. In difficult cases, use round-nose pliers.
  3. With the next rod, a circle of larger diameter is tied in the same way. The operation is repeated until you get a seat of the desired size - usually 70–80 cm.
  4. The last circle of weaving is tied with twine, smeared with glue. For this, an awl is used.
  5. The back of the chair is woven with macrame in a checkerboard pattern. To do this, a synthetic cord is tied to the hoop that makes up the frame of the product so that one end of the rope remains short, and the other, a working one, has a maximum length. The cord is tied with a flat angle and tightened.
  6. Do the same with 5 more cords. In total, at the time of the beginning of weaving, there should be 12 ends: 6 short and 6 long. The ropes are divided into 3 groups of 4 cords each. Successively knit 3 square knots in the first row, and in the second one leave the first and last 2 cords untied. The operation is repeated until the backrest and sidewall of the required height are woven.
  7. The woven seat and the hoop with the back are fastened with twine, smeared with glue. The back can be reinforced with two thick rods.
  8. Slings are tied to the hoop in 4 places. The latter are connected with a carabiner and fastened to a hook, barbell or chain.

Cocoon and ball

A cocoon differs from a basket-type or hammock-type design in its closeness. Such models have very high sidewalls that close with the back and fencing off the person sitting on three sides. The shape of the product is an egg or a ball. There are also teardrop-shaped, completely closed models. But at home, making the latter is very difficult: such a chair is large, requires a reinforced frame and a very durable material for weaving.

They often construct a structure of hoops with their own hands, and therefore a self-made hanging cocoon chair almost always has the shape of a ball.

  1. The main one here is the frame. It is assembled from at least three steel hoops, fastened together with screws. It is recommended to reinforce such a structure with fragments of hoops - arcs installed perpendicularly and dividing the conditional "ball" into segments.
  2. The hoops are sequentially wrapped with a synthetic rope - turn by turn. Every 5-10 turns, it is advisable to coat the area with glue.
  3. The space between the segments is braided with the same rope. You can use a thinner decorative cord and weave the mesh if the skill allows you to create a more openwork construction using colored polyamide threads.
  4. For a seat in such a chair, it is advisable to install a wooden plank, since the bend of the ball does not create a comfortable support. A rather rigid elastic pillow plays the same role. For the back, you can use a softer pillow - made of synthetic winterizer, for example.
  5. The product is suspended on a chain attached to an external hoop.

The following video contains a lot of interesting solutions for making a hanging chair yourself:

Swing chair

A do-it-yourself swing (or rocking chair) differs from a conventional hanging chair in that it swing only in one plane and practically does not rotate. This is achieved in a simple way: they fix the rafters or holding rope loops not to one point, but to two.

  • The basis for such a do-it-yourself manufacturing option is most often a hanging hammock chair, since its design by default provides for fastening to a wooden bar, and only then to a hook on the ceiling. To enhance the effect of the swing, the hammock is not suspended by two ropes, but by 10-12 ropes on each side.
  • A more suitable modification for a swing is a hammock, sewn in the way described above, but with elastic and rigid pillows fixed directly to the canvas - a seat and a back. In this case, fastening is done in a slightly different way: in the side parts, the rope is used to strengthen the edge. Then the edge is divided into equal segments, and at each point the cord is fixed, grabbing the rope hidden under the fabric. All 10-12 ends on one side and the other are adjusted in length and tied together.
  • The design looks more beautiful, where the cords tie a fastening ring, which, in turn, is fixed to a bar or even simply suspended from two ceiling hooks.
  • The street version assumes the arrangement of a construction typical for a swing: two support posts in the shape of the letter "L" and a crossbar.

From the hoop

Metal and less often metal-plastic hoops often become the basis for a hanging chair. They are available in a wide variety of diameters, are durable and are quite affordable. Construct from them and.

All these types of hanging chairs, as well as hammocks, are made by hand using the macrame technique, and read on how to weave such a product correctly. So, we need:

  • two hoops with a cross section of 35 mm of different diameters - 70 cm for the seat and 110 cm for the back;
  • about 900 m of polyamide or nylon cord for braiding with a cross section of 4 mm and 2 thick cords for a bundle;
  • 12 m sling and 2 wooden blocks.

Manufacturing technology includes the following steps.

  1. Both hoops are wrapped with a cord, making a tie every 20 turns. The cord should be very tight.
  2. The seat hoop is braided using any of the macrame techniques. The simplest and most popular is the "checkerboard" with flat knots. When weaving, the cord must be pulled well, the elasticity and strength of the future product depends on it.
  3. The second hoop is tied to the seat with twine. Spacers are placed on the opposite edge between the hoops - they provide the rigidity of the back. Before installation, cuts are made in the bars in order to securely fasten on the hoops.
  4. The back is braided with a cord using the same or some other macrame technique. The braid starts at the top, wider part, gradually going down to the seat.
  5. The slings are tied in four meters, achieving the correct position of the chair, and suspended on a hook or bar.
  6. You can decorate the product with decorative braids, brushes, and so on.

The following video will help you make a hanging chair from an ordinary hoop with your own hands:

The design of the hanging chair is quite simple, and the materials of manufacture are readily available. With a little patience and perseverance, you can get a completely worthy original product from the most ordinary objects.

Hanging chairs are an alternative to a rocking chair on the runners of the house and a hammock in nature. Comfort and light swaying will help you relax and unwind after a hard day. A variety of models and materials for manufacturing allows you to harmoniously integrate such an armchair into any interior. And it is not at all necessary to spend money on a purchase. Some models are easy to make with your own hands.

Types of hanging chairs

A wide variety of models and designs are produced. They can be made of wood, metal, rattan, vine, transparent plastic. There are models that you can make yourself without any problems.

  1. Swing chair. Fastening is carried out at two points. Due to this, the structure swings in one plane. There are soft models (hammock chair) or on a rigid frame:
    • the basis of the first option is a soft fabric or wicker fabric, which is easy to sew, weave using macrame technique or crochet - the ends of the panel are attached to the transverse bar with 4 slings, and it is already suspended from the ceiling or leg-post;
    • the second version has a rigid frame made of acrylic, plastic, wood, rattan or metal in the form of a hoop covered with a soft base.
  2. Nest chair. The base of the construction is made up of 2 sturdy hoops. The model has a flat bottom and low sides, which are braided with a cord, rope or tied with strong threads.
  3. The cocoon chair (egg) differs from its counterparts in its greater closeness, often up to 70%. The back and sides are high and connected above the head. The rigid frame is braided with a suitable material or sheathed with fabric. The varieties of this model - a basket chair and a drop chair - are ideal for a child's room.

Finishing techniques and materials

These chairs usually have a rigid frame and seat made of various materials.

  1. Textile. An affordable and easy-to-use material, the density and strength of which is selected based on the expected load. A raincoat, tarpaulin will do. The armchair for children from old jeans with pockets and rivets looks original.
  2. Knitted fabric. Craftsmen who know the knitting or crocheting technique can use their skills to create an original chair from plain or multi-colored threads.
  3. Macrame. Weaving from a durable cord will not only last a long time, but will also add a special flavor to any interior.
  4. Vine, rattan. Chairs made of eco-friendly materials will decorate any interior, but special skills are required to work with them. In addition, rattan does not grow in our country.

It is interesting! An unusual and very durable material for the armchair braid is a thread from plastic bottles. Such a chair will not get wet, will not deform, it can be hung on the street.

Frame material

The base of the chair can be made from different materials.

  1. Gymnastic hoop. Suitable only for a child seat, for an adult, its strength is not enough, since the cross-sectional diameter is 16 mm, and for the frame of the chair you need 2 times more.
  2. Metal pipe. The product from it will turn out to be durable, but heavy - at least 7 kg. For its manufacture, you will need pipe bending equipment.
  3. Wood. The design will be durable, lightweight, environmentally friendly. Since the material absorbs moisture and dries up in the sun, for outdoor chairs, wood must be treated with impregnations. This will protect the material from decay.
  4. Reinforced-plastic pipes. Strong, lightweight and non-corrosive material. When using coiled pipes, there is no need to bend them. The ends of the segment are connected with a wooden or plastic insert and fixed with self-tapping screws.

You should not use dilapidated material in the manufacture of an armchair: such furniture will not last long.

Do-it-yourself hanging chair

A hand-made hanging chair will look good in the country or on the veranda of a private house. The simplest to manufacture is a hammock chair. It can be done in several ways from different materials, but the most convenient and uncomplicated of them are macrame or textiles.

Hammock without frame

For work you will need:

  • dense fabric - 1.5x1.5 m;
  • durable cord;
  • wooden bar for fastening;
  • sewing accessories.

After preparing everything you need, proceed to the assembly process.

Swing on a rigid frame

To make it you will need:

  • a hoop with a diameter of 90–95 cm;
  • durable fabric 3 m long and 1.5 m wide;
  • lightning - 90–95 cm;
  • strong cord or rope - 10 m;
  • metal rings for fastening the structure to the ceiling;
  • non-woven fabric;
  • scissors;
  • tape measure;
  • sewing accessories.

When all the materials are ready, proceed to the execution of the chair.

  1. Fold the fabric in half and spread it on a flat surface.
  2. Place the hoop in the center, at a distance of 20-25 cm from it, draw a marking along the circumference and connect the marks with a line. Cut out 2 circles.
  3. On one of the blanks, make a cut through the center with a length equal to the diameter of the hoop, sew a zipper in this place.
  4. Join both workpieces with a seam around the circumference.
  5. Make cutouts on the finished cover for attaching the ropes to a 10 cm long hoop. To do this, fold the cover in half and measure from the fold line to one side 45 ° C, to the other - 30 ° C, mark.
  6. Duplicate the marks on the second part of the circle. The distance between the cutouts in the front of the seat should be greater than in the back.
  7. Tape the slots.
  8. Wrap the hoop with a strip of padding polyester, connect with a seam to secure.
  9. Insert the hoop into the cover, close the zipper.
  10. Cut the cord into 4 pieces, 2.2 and 2.8 m long. Fold each piece in half and fasten it to the hoop. To do this, pass a loop through the hole in the cover, and push the ends of the cord through it and tighten them. Long cords should be in the front of the chair and short cords in the back.
  11. Tie a short and long cord on the right side to one ring, on the left to the other. Make strong knots.
  12. Hang the rings from a ceiling, beam, or thick tree branch outside.
  13. Place pillows inside or sew a round mattress. This will make the chair even more comfortable.

How to make a wicker nest chair: step by step photos

By making the seat flat and providing the structure with sides, you can get a nest chair. For such a rocking chair you will need:

  • two hoops made of a metal-plastic pipe with a cross section of 35 mm: for a seat with a diameter of 70 cm, for a backrest - 110 cm;
  • polyamide cord 4 mm thick - 900 m;
  • sling or strong rope - 12 m;
  • thicker cord for connecting the seat and backrest.

To make this chair, you need to be able to weave.

  1. First, braid both hoops:
    • wrap the pipe with a cord (it is worth taking a cord with a polypropylene core, as it will help to make a stronger knit);
    • pull the thread well (each next turn should fit evenly and tightly to the previous one);
    • fasten the thread every 20 turns, pulling it as much as possible and twisting it;
    • for greater strength, coat the weaving with glue.
  2. At regular intervals, fasten with a double loop on the braid of the hoop the sections of the cord folded in half. They should be half the length of the hoop.
  3. Weave the bottom of the chair with flat knots in a checkerboard pattern, securing the remaining ends to a free semicircle. The tension on the cords when weaving should be quite strong. It is not scary if the hoop is slightly deformed, in the future the shape will be restored.
  4. Connect the finished seat and backrest hoop by tying them together with a cord at the front of the structure.
  5. At the back, connect the seat and the backrest hoop with two wooden spacer bars, making cuts in their ends for a strong attachment. The length of the spacers is adjusted according to the desired backrest height.
  6. Attach the cords to the upper arch of the back and weave from top to bottom. Fasten the rest of the cords to the seat and form brushes out of them.
  7. Connect the upper arch of the back and seat with a thick cord parallel to the struts, and then remove them.
  8. Tie the slings to the finished structure. They also need to be made using the macrame technique from cords.
  9. Hang the chair.

How to make an egg chair at home

An egg chair (cocoon) is the most difficult option for a home craftsman. The structure is closed on three sides, and the side surfaces and backrest close over the head.

  1. For work, you can use metal-plastic pipes, collecting a frame from a hoop and additional arcs. To give additional rigidity, the structure is reinforced with several horizontal arcs, the elements are connected to each other with self-tapping screws.
  2. The finished frame is braided with a cord using the macrame technique, sheathed with fabric or crocheted.
  3. For those who know how to work with wood, it is not difficult to cut the frame out of thick plywood.

Fabric cocoon baby chair

For children, a cocoon chair can be sewn from fabric. It does not take up much space, it will organically fit into the interior of the children's room and is not traumatic.

To make it you will need:

  • 2 meters of dense fabric, 1.5 m wide;
  • lightning;
  • pillow or inflatable balloon;
  • sewing accessories.

The technique of making a cocoon is simple, the main thing is to follow the instructions.

Instead of a pillow or an inflatable chamber, a hoop can be inserted into the bottom of the chair, then you get a drop chair.

Fastening suspended rockers to the ceiling, rack, beam

For any suspended structures, the main thing is a reliable fastening. The safety of those who use the chair depends on it. There are several mounting options:

  • to the ceiling;
  • to the leg stand;
  • to a tree branch or beam (for the street).

If there is a stretch ceiling in the room, then it will be problematic to install the mount. In this case, you need to mount the structure before fixing the ceiling, or you should purchase a special stand-leg.

Consider different installation options.

  1. A hole can be drilled in a concrete ceiling, a powerful anchor with a hook can be installed in it to suspend the structure. There are special kits on sale consisting of an anchor, a hook and a chain. The fasteners must be able to support at least 120 kg.
  2. The voids in the ceiling through the hole must be filled with a special solution of high strength polymers - chemical anchors. These formulations are sold in syringe tubes. Then you need to insert an anchor into the hole and wait a day until the composition is completely dry.
  3. For ceilings with sturdy joists or for terraces and outdoors, bolting is suitable.
  4. For a suspended ceiling, it is worth purchasing a special suspension that has a bracket that is attached to the concrete ceiling and exits through the suspended one. A hook is screwed to it.

    The mounting bracket is installed on the concrete ceiling, then a hook is screwed to it

  5. The slings are tied to the tree branch with a strong knot.
  6. The leg stand can be purchased at the store. It is convenient in that the chair is not permanently fixed in one place and it can be moved, and, if necessary, disassembled and transported.

Diy rack drawing

The simplest stand-leg for a hanging chair can actually be made by yourself.

  1. The wooden stand consists of only 5 parts, but it cannot be made without special equipment, all the parts are bent.
  2. The most common option is a metal stand. To make it, you will need a metal pipe, pipe bending equipment and welding.
  3. A simple version of a metal rack: the design does not require complex drawings and special skills.

    For stability, a simple metal post is attached to the vertical support with a chain or cable

You don't have to spend a lot of money to fully relax. With a creative approach to business, not only relaxation in a hanging chair, but also the process of its manufacture will become a rest. And the product will cause legitimate pride.

A hanging chair will add comfort and coziness to a modern home. This piece of furniture has been known since the middle of the last century, and today it has migrated from colorful magazines and stories about unusual interiors to living rooms and to the dachas of many people.

Modern hanging chairs look original, as if floating in the air, and allow you to relax after a hard day at work. But such designs are not cheap, and it is not always easy to choose a "dream chair", although the range offered to consumers is quite wide. It is quite possible to make most of the models yourself - it is not so difficult. How to make a hanging chair? This is the subject of this master class.

Suspended structures represent various options, among which stand out:

  • "Rocking chairs" with a rigid frame made of plastic, metal, rattan or even a vine. For ease of use, such a base is in most cases covered with a soft cloth;

Armchair with sturdy frame

  • with a soft frame. These chairs are more like a traditional hammock. They are compact and take up little space, taking the shape of a human body;

In the form of a hammock

  • a chair called "cocoon". Wicker "walls" of this design, as it were, hide those who like to retire from prying eyes;

Cocoon armchair

  • chair-"drop", outwardly reminiscent of a small house. A number of such structures (for example, installed in a nursery) have small doors, which contribute to the feeling of a "nest" (sometimes they are called that).

Materials for making

Having decided on the design of the chair that you are going to make at home, you need to understand what materials you will use:

  1. For a chair that resembles a swing, thick fabric and thick synthetic ropes, as well as small blocks of wood, are quite suitable.
  2. A cocoon chair can be made of rattan, willow twigs, as well as any other branches that have sufficient flexibility.
  3. Some models require plastic or steel hoops. Also, to make a chair, you will need textiles of increased wear resistance, synthetic filler in order to make the rest more comfortable, as well as any decorative elements that seem necessary to you.

Seat techniques

To create a seat, you need to get creative and use various techniques, such as:

  • macrame. The airiness of the appearance of such a structure is provided by bizarre combinations of rope weaves and knots. This method of creation is perhaps the most common;
  • patchwork. This is the name of a patchwork canvas. It is sewn over the durable material of the seat and serves for decoration - the "rocking chair" looks very stylish;
  • knitting. This technology allows you to combine cords of different colors in the work, which gives the designer space for imagination;
  • tatting. The hanging chair seat made using this technique looks weightless and very original.

What is necessary?

To make a frame suspended chair to the ceiling, you should purchase (or find at home) the following materials:

  • gloves;
  • scissors, tape measure;
  • hoops made of metal, wood or, for example, PVC;
  • braid, non-woven;
  • ring, buckle;
  • polyamide threads and tapes;
  • foam rubber;
  • high strength cords and slings.

Manufacturing technology

And so you decided to take a chance and make a frame chair, and with your own hands and a hanging one. Take whatever is required and then proceed as follows:

  1. Wrap the base of the frame with foam rubber, fixing it with glue.
  2. Wrap polyamide tapes or macrame threads over the top of the foam.
  3. Connect the ready-made bases with tape or ropes for fastening.
  4. Please note that the main elements of the frame are not chosen the same size - they should be located from largest to smallest, forming the shape of the chair.
  5. The resulting base must be suspended from the ceiling of the room using slings and an iron ring.

Basic installation rules

It should be noted that it is possible to install the chair mounts on the shelf only if it is strong enough. In a situation where there is a floor made of slabs with voids, it should be reinforced by filling the “holes” with anchoring mortars based on high strength polymers.

Securing the chair with an anchor

Holes are drilled in wooden ceilings and fastening bolts are placed in them. A worthy option for mounting the chair is a special ceiling mount made of heavy-duty alloys.

Chains or durable textiles are used as the connecting material - the choice of how to fasten depends on the interior design and the characteristics of the chair.

Why do you need a rack?

Chair suspended from the rack

Ceiling mountings for chairs have a number of disadvantages, the main one being that a hanging piece of furniture can no longer be moved from the place where the hook is mounted. To avoid this situation, a special stand is often used for the chair, which can be purchased additionally. This technology allows you to install a suspended structure wherever you like - this is especially important in children's rooms, where the interior often changes, and the load on the chair is not so great. In addition, the presence of a stand frees the owner of the chair from the need to mount the mount directly on the ceiling, which is associated with a number of problems and is quite troublesome. In any case, a hanging chair in the interior looks extremely advantageous - whether you decide to supplement it with a stand or not.

The cover will help

Hanging hammock chair

How can you make a hanging chair with your own hands, without having skills, for example, knitting and macrame? It is best to opt for a hanging chair with a cover. To make this we need:

  • hoop;
  • a piece of matter;
  • non-woven or braid;
  • slings;
  • buckles and a metal ring (for fixing).

The hoop can be created from pipes, using metal-plastic, or from wood. When applying the latter, one should be prepared for the fact that natural material may dry out over time.

First of all, we make a cover. After cutting it open and marking the places for the lines, sew both circles together, leaving a hole in order to insert the hoop. Fill the cover with padding polyester, fixing it with an inconspicuous seam. Reinforce the structure on the hoop. Secure the straps by putting buckles on them in order to be able to adjust the chair.

We spread the fabric, lay the hoop in the center Mark with a marker a circle with a radius of 25 cm larger than the radius of the hoop Cut out 2 such circles
We fold one of the circles in half and cut it Along the line of the central cut of this circle, a zipper is sewn in, a length equal to the diameter of the hoop Sew two round halves of the cover and turn it out
We make markings according to the drawing We make verses for the mounts We wrap the hoop with padding polyester
We sew it with a cloth We sew the edges of the cutouts with tape Insert the hoop into the cover
We put in the cords We hang the chair
