A beautiful and comfortable barbecue area will become the center of attraction for the whole family. Therefore, you should devote time and money to properly designing this zone on your site. But it’s important to learn in advance how to do it correctly.

Selecting a location

Choosing a place for a barbecue area on the site requires compliance with certain conditions.

  • Safety because it is a source of open flame. The fryer should be located at a sufficient distance from the house or outbuildings to avoid fire. The grill is located away from bushes and trees.
  • Wind protection. The fire flame should be protected from strong gusts of wind. To do this, use natural terrain or buildings, that is, place a recreation area on the windward side of a hill or wall of a house. When choosing a location, you should take into account the interests of your neighbors; they should not be disturbed by the smoke from the fire or the noise of evening gatherings. Take into account the presence of a barnyard or poultry house on the farm; the smells of animal activity can ruin dinner in the fresh air.

The best option is to build a protective wall along the barbecue; the height of the wall can be from 1.5 to 3.5 meters.

  • Ease of use. To the barbecue area you need to organize a comfortable, non-slip, fairly wide passage with good visibility, since the main period of use is in the evening. A location in close proximity to a country house meets these criteria, while it is convenient to use the kitchen and plumbing system of the house and keep an eye on the children on the playground in the yard. A barbecue area is often included in a complex with a bathhouse, placing these two objects nearby. This provides access to water, and the bathhouse terrace serves as a covered dining area. Sometimes there is a separate location in the natural landscape of the estate; here you will need to lay good paths and organize evening lighting.

  • Aesthetic environment. It is advisable to locate the barbecue area in a beautiful landscaped environment; people sitting on the area should not be looking at the fence or wall of the neighbor’s barn. You need to walk around the site, look at it from different angles and determine a suitable view point.

Project and foundation

At the next stage, a suitable project is selected. Design options for a barbecue area come in several types. An open type is an area in a clearing or in an open-air garden. The grill is installed on the ground or a special support, with benches and a table nearby.

This is the simplest type of recreation area, which requires the least financial costs. Even a beginner in construction can build such a site. There are no special requirements for the size of such a recreation area, except for taking into account the size of the site and compliance with fire safety standards. A plus will be the use of the surrounding area for active games. The disadvantage is the dependence on weather conditions.

The closed type involves the installation of a barbecue and a dining table with seating under a single roof on supports. A wall is built along the back of the barbecue to protect from the wind. Supports for an enclosed area are made of metal, brick or wood.

The brazier itself is equipped with a chimney to avoid smoke in the resting area.

Dimensions are calculated according to the need to accommodate a certain number of people. The minimum width is 4 - 4.5 meters, this is enough for a free approach to the table with seats for a company of 8-10 people and providing convenient access to the brazier.

A grill and a table for outdoor dining can be placed on the patio. In this case, the recreation area is adjacent to one of the walls of the house, bathhouse, or it can be arranged in the courtyard. The proximity to the house allows the use of kitchen and bathroom communications. The walls of the buildings are reliably protected from the wind, the grill is equipped with a chimney and a roof.

For fans of beautiful views, a universal type is suitable. This is a collapsible structure that is installed in any suitable place on the site; if necessary, it is moved to another place. This way you can enjoy barbecue while viewing different landscapes according to your mood and weather conditions. The design of the grill area is equipped with light protection made of fabric or film from wind or precipitation. In hot weather, an awning shades the resting place; a beach umbrella can act as an awning.

Having decided on the type of site, you need to choose a project; you can order it from an architectural studio or select ready-made drawings on construction sites. Manufacturers offer a huge variety of metal barbecues. Ready-made metal braziers are installed directly on the ground or on a platform lined with stone.

Brick outdoor ovens and barbecues have simple designs, available for self-construction, but require the construction of a foundation. Building a barbecue area with your own hands according to the drawings is quite a pleasant experience. Let's take a closer look at the process of laying a foundation with your own hands.

According to the dimensions of the barbecue, markings are made on the ground, 10-15 centimeters are added in width and length, soil is selected to a depth of 60-70 centimeters: over the entire area - for constructing a foundation in the form of a slab or along the perimeter - for constructing a strip foundation.

It is worth noting that strip foundations are less resistant to temperature changes and swelling of the soil in the spring and winter, so it is better to make a concrete slab for the entire foundation. The bottom of the trench is compacted using a manual tamper or an electric vibrating plate.

A layer of crushed stone is poured 10 centimeters deep and compacted with a hand or electric tool.

The formwork is made, the slab foundation is poured with concrete made of cement of a grade not lower than M200, 10 centimeters high. The height of the strip is 20-30 cm. You can lay the reinforcing rods for the slab in the form of a cage, and for the strip - in two rods. Leave it for one to two weeks to harden, then lay 2 layers of waterproofing with roofing felt or roofing felt, coat it with liquid waterproofing mastic and begin laying the barbecue.

The simplest standard barbecue has the shape of the letter “U” in plan and dimensions are 90 cm wide, 100 cm high and 90 cm deep. The materials you will need are solid ceramic bricks or fireclay bricks ША-8. For the first five rows of masonry, a 3:1 sand-cement mortar will be required, for subsequent rows - a clay-sand mortar.

At the owner's request, side tables made of bricks are added for preparing barbecue. The brazier can be equipped with a chimney, which will require some experience in bricklaying. The stove can be equipped with an oven or grate for preparing various dishes in the summer kitchen or drying fruits and mushrooms. Craftsmen install devices for smoking meat or fish in the chimney. The style of the barbecue is selected according to the general design of the suburban area or this area is endowed with a special colorful design.

Arrangement: options

The barbecue and picnic area can be located directly on the grass, but then you will have to depend on the vagaries of the weather. The grass may be damp, or cold rain may prevent you from dining outside. To make your vacation comfortable, it is better to pave the recreation area. Paving is made from paving slabs, clinker bricks, natural stone, pebbles or other natural materials. It must be taken into account that the paths and the site must be finished with the same material.

A hard coating will allow you not to be afraid of dampness; the barbecue and pieces of garden furniture will stand firmly on the surface. The coating must be non-slip to avoid injury after rain or frost. The finishing material chosen is frost-resistant and not susceptible to chipping during cleaning, if the recreation area is intended to be used in the winter.

At the dacha, it is worth using available materials to cover the site: tree cuts, mosaics made from fragments of ceramic tiles left after repairs.

The arrangement of the paving area is prepared as follows:

  • Markings are made on the ground according to the chosen shape and size.
  • Along the marking lines over the entire area, 20-30 cm of soil is removed, compacted and covered with a 5-10 cm layer of sand.
  • Then follows a layer of crushed stone of 5-10 centimeters and again a layer of sand or sand with cement, on which stone or brick is already laid. All layers are regularly checked with a building level.
  • Paving slabs or stones can be laid on concrete; instead of a top layer of sand, formwork is constructed, beacons are installed according to the level, beacons are placed and filled with a cement-sand mixture, wait until it dries completely for 10-14 days.
  • After this, finishing material is laid on the concrete base using cement mortar, maintaining a slope to drain water.

Manufacturers offer a wide range of lumber and artificial analogues for garden parquet and decking boards. Wood flooring has a shorter service life, but many people like the warm texture of this material. In this option, the boards are laid on logs, which can be made of wood, metal or concrete. The logs are supported on a strip foundation in the shape of the site or rest on a concrete base. All structural parts are treated with an antiseptic to prevent corrosion and rotting.

To bring the structure under the roof, pillars are installed, which are made of timber, brick, and metal. Here you need to take into account the weight of the roof, whether it is a permanent roof made of metal tiles, asbestos-cement sheets or andulin, which will require reinforced supports. Budget summer gazebos have a light and practical covering made of film, fabric or polycarbonate. For brick pillars, a point foundation is prepared, on which the columns are erected to the required level. Metal pillars are reinforced with small pebbles in a well, which is filled with cement.

Rafters are attached to the pillars, which must be finished underneath, since structures of this kind rarely have a false ceiling. Structural beams are specially used to create a chalet style in the recreation area. To equip a warm area, it can be covered with a stone or brick wall on one or two adjacent sides.

A separate strip foundation must be laid under the walls; care must be taken that the foundation of the barbecue does not come into contact with the rest of the concrete pouring, this will ensure the strength of the structure.

Capital stone structures for barbecue are not such a common occurrence in suburban areas, most are limited to a roof and side awnings made of fabric or film, which can be fixed to poles or opened depending on the weather. Glazed panoramic seating areas allow you to use the room in any weather thanks to sliding structures, light weight and good insulating qualities of double-glazed windows. Glass in such systems successfully replaces polycarbonate in various colors. The main attention is paid to the thermal insulation of the roofing material from the chimney.

Zoning

The barbecue area is divided into two main areas - the cooking area and the dining area. The brazier should be installed no closer than 2 meters from the dining table; it is best to install the brazier in a corner or at the far wall of the area. The dining area should not block the approach to the fire, so the table and seating are located in the front part of the gazebo. It is convenient to place the barbecue area in the patio, which creates natural protection from the wind from the walls of the buildings. The table can be placed on the veranda or a canopy can be built with support on one of the walls of the house; the brazier can be left in the open air or placed at a distance under a canopy near the house.

A recreation area in an open-air summer cottage can be formed around a central barbecue. In this case, much attention is paid to the design of the barbecue, since tables with sofas are placed around the summer stove. It’s a good idea to plant a hedge along the perimeter of the recreation area, which will add comfort and protect from prying eyes. A decorative fence or woodpile can serve as a barrier from the wind. A beautiful option is to place a recreation area on the shore of a natural or artificial reservoir.

Hard physical labor on earth takes a lot of strength and energy. Don't turn your site into hard labor. Find a corner where you can relax after exhausting work and drink tea. A place where the whole family will gather at the end of the day, or where guests will come on weekends to sit around the fire and barbecue. During the warm season, outdoor recreation is a valuable benefit that should be taken advantage of.

There are different ways to organize a vacation spot. In this article we will give some tips on creating a barbecue area with your own hands.

What is barbecue

Not everyone is familiar with the concept of “barbecue”. This word came to us from the West, and many people ask the question “barbecue - what is it?” This is the name given to a fireplace stove installed outdoors.

It is equipped with a fireplace where you can grill meat over coals. The chimney, located in the upper part, has good draft and prevents smoke.

Various options for arranging a barbecue area at the dacha with your own hands in the photo:

It is possible to build a shed and equip a field kitchen on the site yourself. Let's see how to approach this issue correctly and what we need.

How to choose a place

It is better to locate the barbecue area in a place hidden from prying eyes of neighbors or people passing by. For example, behind a house where there is no access to an open courtyard.

You need to determine where to put the stove itself, and where you can sit, so that there is enough space for all guests.

  • tables and benches should not be placed under the scorching sun;
  • The stove should not be placed under trees or near bushes. The heat and smoke from the stove dries out the plants and they may die. In addition, hanging branches with dry leaves create a fire hazard;
  • the resting place should be closer to the house so that you don’t have to walk across the entire area if you need to take or carry something. But there is no need to place the brazier under the windows; smoke should not enter the premises.

The location of the barbecue area in the country house can be seen in the photo:

A barbecue area covered with a roof is the best option. This can be a canopy attached to the house, or a free-standing gazebo or pavilion. This has incomparable advantages:

  • an outdoor stove protected from rain and snow will last much longer;
  • under the roof of a canopy or gazebo you can put a table and benches, and hang a lamp. It’s always a pleasure to sit in such a place, both during the day and in the evening. The canopy provides cool shade in hot weather and protects from rain;
  • The gazebo will decorate any area. There are many design solutions for how to beautifully and practically equip a gazebo. For example, the lattice design of the walls allows climbing plants, flowers or vines to grow along them.

This is the arrangement of the barbecue area in the photo:

Let's understand the design

First you need to determine what type of structure you need. The many possible options have two features:

  1. An area with an open area without a roof or with a small canopy over the table. The main advantage here is that you can use any type of stove, both stationary and portable, with or without a chimney.

  1. Separate covered pavilion. This could be a covered area with dedicated areas for cooking and relaxation. Here, stationary stoves are usually used, lined with brick or stone, with a chimney outlet.

Below are photos of a barbecue area in an open or closed area:

No kitchen would be complete without a fireplace. You can choose the most suitable one from several options:

  • portable braziers and barbecues, which can vary in size and shape;
  • a stone, open hearth shaped like a fire, on which you can place skewers or a grill for meat;
  • tandoor for cooking oriental dishes;
  • a stove made of stone with a chimney;
  • stove complex with barbecue, stove or oven, smokehouse or spit. In such a kitchen you can cook anything.

Roasters or barbecue ovens can be ordered ready-made. But a good thing is expensive, so it’s best to arrange the fireplace yourself.

Selecting the material

To begin building a gazebo or setting up a fireplace, you will need to draw up a diagram of the future building. It is necessary to calculate the area, roof height and dimensions.

For the construction of a barbecue area in the country, there are photos of finished projects.

When you have decided on the design and layout of the furnace, you need to decide what materials will be required for construction and their quantity.

Materials and tools for construction

  • refractory bricks for stove masonry;
  • clinker brick for firebox installation;
  • cement;
  • chimney pipe;
  • boards and logs for tables and benches;
  • building material for gazebos;
  • cable and lighting fixtures.

Construction stages

  1. Laying the foundation. It should be noted that the height of the foundation for the stove should be 10 cm higher than the foundation of the gazebo. The depth of the foundation depends on the massiveness of the planned building. First we level the ground, and then dig a pit of the required depth. We strengthen the bottom with crushed stone and fill it with sand. Then we lay out the reinforcement grid and pour the concrete. The resulting structure should dry within a few days, only after which construction should continue.
  2. Laying the stove. We do not recommend choosing circuits with a complex design if you do not have experience. The masonry should be smooth without distortions. First, the guides are set using a level, then the brick is laid out step by step. It is better to lay each row dry first. This will help you avoid making mistakes with the number of bricks and position them correctly. The mortar for laying the stove is clay-based. Regular cement mortar will spill out from the heat.

In order to build a stove correctly, order is needed. This is the order of laying bricks, allowing you to create a high-quality structure that does not allow smoke to pass through.

If you have never been involved in laying stoves, it is better to turn to specialists. A mistake in miscalculations is fraught with the fact that all work will have to begin with laws.

1 option

Option 2

Option 3

  1. Construction of a gazebo. When the foundation and stove are ready, you can begin building the gazebo. For this, timber and boards are usually used, but some build more permanent structures made of brick. The wood will need to be additionally painted with antiseptic paint to prevent rotting, and a hole will need to be cut in the roof for the chimney.

You will learn more about which brick is better to choose in our next article.

Territory arrangement

When the main facilities have been erected, the territory of the recreation area should be improved. The gazebo is equipped with tables and benches or chairs, and lighting is provided.

The area around is covered with crushed stone or fine gravel to make walking comfortable. Planting flowers. Equipped with a washbasin, which is always at hand. Prepare the grill and skewers. They lay out the woodpile.

VIDEO: How to build a barbecue area with your own hands

Dear customers! I recently built a truly magical barbecue area, and I would like to talk about the intricacies of such construction. As a rule, customers and craftsmen have different goals: one wants to earn more, the other wants to spend less. However, with savings on construction work, you can find yourself in an almost hopeless situation. How to avoid various subtleties when choosing a contractor for the construction of a barbecue area for a summer house and a country house on a site - read in this article.

Dear clients, lately you have often asked me about the services of laying a brick barbecue area at a dacha in Moscow and the Moscow region. I will try to summarize your questions, dispel all your doubts and, using the example of my own work, tell you what barbecue areas there are, what a brick barbecue area may include, and of course, as my competence, I will present my best works - beautiful barbecue areas with a roof

So, this article will talk about the nuances construction of a recreation area with barbecue. As a rule, when searching for a contractor, the customer is guided primarily by several criteria. That's why you won't find my ads on Avito. The last time I posted an ad on Avito was 3 years ago, and it got ridiculous - people call, ask if I’m a master, ask how much it costs to build a barbecue area, and when they hear the answer, they immediately say: “I’ll call you back, goodbye.” .

Of course, dear customers, the price factor cannot but play a role. This is an important factor, but not the primary one, especially in such a delicate matter as construction of a barbecue recreation area

Barbecue area on a plot at a dacha in Moscow and the Moscow region

My wife and I are doing construction of barbecue areas in Moscow and the Moscow region for 12 years, and we have seen and heard a lot from our customers. In modern Moscow and the Moscow region, many builders are engaged in the construction of barbecues on sites in country houses. In no case do I want to offend anyone, but when you look at the photos you sent with a request for help in the matter of repairing and correcting the defects of smoking barbecues, I feel very sorry for you for such an unscrupulous approach of the builders.

Here is an example of a professional approach, our recent work, Relaxation area with barbecue No. 50, consisting of three sections and a table top

The whole work is a complete work of art: a double rounded arch of the barbecue area, a geometrically elegant oven arch, multiple carved elements, and also new this year - lighting of the barbecue area for the convenience of cooking barbecue in the evening. And here are a few more photos of the barbecue area for a summer house or country house

Let's return to unscrupulous masters. I gained my experience for a long time, getting big shots at almost every object. I didn’t finish the vaunted courses, because they couldn’t teach me anything. It’s the same as teaching business in business training. Construction of a barbecue for a summer house in and business is a natural process of gaining your own experience. And no one can teach you this, as they say, turnkey. For 2 years I worked as an apprentice to a master, watched and studied his experience, and for several more years I built simple stoves in remote villages and hamlets.

And during the first 4-5 years, I didn’t even undertake the independent construction of barbecue areas in a suburban area. A recreation area with a barbecue is a very complex design, especially in Moscow and the Moscow region, where the customer invests expensive material in the barbecue structure itself, as well as in the room where it will be located.

So what is the main difficulty in building a barbecue area in Moscow and the Moscow region?

Not all novice builders find it easy to master the construction of a barbecue area on a dacha plot. Why is oven experience so important in building a barbecue?

It's all about traction. Notice the great traction BBQ areas No. 48- All three barbecue sections are lit at the same time.

The most difficult thing in all this is the correct removal of combustion waste outside the premises! In this work, the customer had a completely enclosed room. Moreover, the room is heated with warm floors. And the customer’s idea was this: he wanted to come on holidays, weekends, flood the room, light a fire, and cook barbecue in a warm room. This is not at all like being outside in a simple barbecue. If smoke goes inside the room, then in a matter of seconds the whole room will smell of smoke and soot. This should not happen at all in any!

Of course, this work is one of the most beautiful and difficult of my career. Pay attention to the oven arch (left). This is a full triple arch. Even in my portfolio at the time of 2019 you will not find such. What can we say about simpler websites for barbecue areas. Very often customers are interested in cost - so this barbecue area has an increased complexity factor. Do you want such beauty? I can do this, as you can see, but it won't be cheap. Here are some more photos of this work.

A barbecue area in a summer cottage is becoming a necessity. There is always an opportunity to gather with the whole family or friends to relax and spend time together. It’s not difficult to decorate the place with your own hands. Photos can be viewed from those who have already designed this zone, or simply consider different options in this article.

Projects should be designed in such a way that a person can relax, have a picnic, and cook delicious food. Everything there must be thought out to the smallest detail; the presence of:

  • table;
  • comfortable seats;
  • barbecue

The recreation area at the dacha can be of the following types:

  1. Universal. Such places are maneuverable structures. They can be converted from a closed area to an open one in a short time. The frames of this device can be metal or wood, prefabricated and non-stationary.
  2. Patio. This place refers to the courtyard of the house, which is located in the open air. In the middle of the yard there is a table and chairs, and a barbecue on the side.
  3. Open spacious area. You can spend time on it playing various games, organizing parties, and playing sports.
  4. Closed area. It is supposed to be a place for a relaxing holiday. This place is covered with a canopy or roof so that precipitation does not interfere with rest. The walls are replaced by wooden slats decorated with flowers, screens or curtains.

The barbecue area is an important resting place. You will need a grill to prepare aromatic dishes and keep warm on cool evenings. Sometimes they install instead:

  • B-B-Q;
  • oven with brazier;
  • smokehouse

Selecting a location

The place for a portable barbecue can be any convenient area. In most cases, it is installed near the gazebo.

When arranging a barbecue area, you need to remember the safety rules. The roaster should not be placed near trees with overhanging branches or wooden buildings. At the dacha, near the barbecue, you can build a special screen that protects from the wind. If a stationary view is provided, then benches, a table and a place where food is prepared are often placed near it. It’s not bad if the barbecue area, made by yourself, is built around it as a platform. It is worth laying paths from it to the house and other buildings.

Often, a barbecue area in a dacha is equipped with your own hands directly in the summer kitchen.

Do-it-yourself site arrangement

Setting up a place for a brazier is impossible without organizing a platform for it. When the area is just leveled and compacted, dirt still accumulates there, so it is better if the area is paved with some kind of non-combustible material. Can be used:

  • stone paving;
  • brick finishing;
  • simple concreting.

Sometimes owners want to build a recreation area in some corner of their summer cottage. This is a very good option, in which the platform is raised 20-30 cm above the ground. Additionally, the edges are strengthened with bricks or stones.

In other cases, the location is chosen in the center of the dacha, then ideally it is advisable to organize the site as if in a recess with the obligatory construction of a retaining wall.

It is necessary to arrange a place for a barbecue in the dacha, the photo of which clearly shows what the structure looks like, so that vacationers feel comfortable and comfortable. Access to the firebox plays an important role in this. It must be done in such a way that it is as free as possible. Access depends on the model, which is carried out either from one or several sides. The place can be decorated in different ways: the platform can be framed on one or both sides with trellises. If you want not to show off the appearance of the brazier, use climbing plants.

It is important to calculate everything correctly and make for yourself a detailed drawing with dimensions or at least a good diagram. It is necessary to take into account the dimensions of the sink and the method of its connection, the type of countertop, and other additional elements that we plan to include in the site. Here's a small selection for you.

Well, and a couple more great ideas, look at the video, all the nuances of the work are shown in great detail, the results are simply unrealistic:

Essential Points

In order for relaxation on a summer cottage next to the barbecue to bring joy, be fun and comfortable, it is recommended to take into account certain significant details when arranging the site. The best way to do this is to build an original summer kitchen. The grill can be placed under a canopy, but it is best to build a large roof under which to place a table. In this case, it will be possible to relax in the fresh air and in the rain.

You don’t always want to build brick or concrete areas for a brazier yourself; sometimes people want to have a wooden platform in their summer cottage. This is the option that requires it to be treated with special compounds to avoid fire. It is imperative to place a metal sheet in front of the roasting pan.

The construction of walls around the barbecue is not a prerequisite. One wall is enough to protect vacationers from the wind. The following wall types will look cozy:

  • sliding;
  • swinging open.

If there is a do-it-yourself summer kitchen in the recreation area, you could already see photos of some options above, then it would be nice if it contains the necessary furniture that is needed to store utensils. It is advisable to have a washbasin. It is impossible to imagine a comfortable recreation area without normal lighting. Small lamps will come to the rescue. Following all the recommendations of specialists, taking into account all the nuances, you can build with your own hands a comfortable place to relax in your summer cottage, where everything you need will be, including a grill, a table and comfortable seats.

The barbecue area in the country is a great place to bring friends and have a good time. You can not only barbecue, but also discuss the latest news, sing songs with a guitar, or play something. What gives the idea a special charm is that no special tools, talents in design or the ability to lay bricks with your own hands are required. All you need is imagination, enthusiasm and the desire to learn.

Choosing a place for a barbecue area

Any project for a barbecue area in a country house begins with finding a suitable location. It should have a number of advantages:

  • be on the leeward side, otherwise the smoke from the barbecue will be constantly felt in the house, and this is unpleasant;
  • away from the playground, from trees and generally from anything that could catch fire;
  • not too far from home, otherwise running into the yard to the barbecue, either with defrosted meat, or with added beer, or with vegetables, will be very tiring;
  • on a flat area, preferably paved, since a large company will trample down any grass in a few pleasant evenings.

It would be good if there was a source of water nearby. Ideally, install running water, but you can get by with a stretched garden hose.

Courtyard

Perhaps the best place for a barbecue area is as follows:

  • it is usually located near the house, but the smoke does not reach the inhabitants;
  • there is enough space in it to pave an entire area with tiles or bricks;
  • removed from the view of passers-by and visitors;
  • There is access to a water hose.

The main advantage of the courtyard is privacy. No one will look into the gazebo or under the canopy out of idle curiosity, but you can tell that someone is grilling kebabs in a country house by the aroma.

Terrace

This is a horizontal or slightly inclined platform made of timber or logs, limited by a ledge. The courtyard offers privacy. The terrace has other advantages:

  • it is cheaper to equip a barbecue area on it, since one wall is already ready;
  • in most cases there is no need to install a canopy over it, because the roof of the house has already been built;
  • You won’t have to walk far to the refrigerator and think for a long time about where to get water.

You can’t put a barbecue in this room, but you can allocate a place for it somewhere nearby. The main advantage is the simplicity of arrangement. Even adding a terrace to a house from scratch is not that difficult.

Area in front of the house

This option does not require privacy, because anyone who decides to visit or pass by will see those gathered at the barbecue. However, there are also advantages, especially if you don’t mind the attention of strangers:

  • proximity to home - convenient to walk to the refrigerator and trash can;
  • an opportunity to show off and set up a gazebo with a beautiful design that will be the envy of all neighbors and passers-by.

And if you fence the area with a high fence, then the only negative will disappear.

Site design

To make your stay in the barbecue area enjoyable, you need not only to choose a good place, but also to beautifully decorate the area itself.

Outdoor BBQ area

It's never stuffy here

There are open and closed areas, they differ significantly. In the first option, the site is not stuffy, the smoke is carried away by the wind, and even on hot summer days it is pleasant to spend time in the shade under a canopy. It can be beautifully decorated, turning it into a real decoration of the site: proper finishing, lighting, carefully selected furniture. And it is cheaper to implement such a project: it is easier to pave a small piece of land and cover it with a canopy than to lay a foundation and build walls.

However, there is also a minus. The outdoor area is available for entertainment only in summer. In winter, her photo will look as if the photographer decided to capture snowdrifts.

Patio

The first patios existed in Ancient Rome, and since then they have changed little. It is a tiled courtyard, which has everything you need for relaxation: a barbecue, a swimming pool, benches, a canopy under which you can hide from the sun, and landscaping elements (flower beds or intricately trimmed bushes).

The advantage of this solution is that this place does not require care: for the winter it is enough to bring the benches into the house along with the barbecue and cover the pool with film.

Summer cuisine

If on the patio the opportunity to make a barbecue is just a pleasant addition, then in the summer kitchen cooking is the main purpose (even in the country). And there is logic in this: on hot summer days it is impossible to cook in a large house because of the stuffiness. But on the veranda, which has no walls, but has a stove and the equipment necessary for cooking, the heat is carried away by the wind, so it’s easier to breathe.

From a design point of view, the summer kitchen looks like a platform over which a roof is fixed on poles. In winter, the stove is covered, the furniture is taken away along with the equipment and everything is left until spring.

Covered barbecue area

In a closed area you can have fun even in winter

The open area is a budget summer option. Closed implies a more serious approach to the matter. It has walls, a porch and a roof - in fact, it is a separate small house where you can grill kebabs. Organizing it is more expensive and more difficult (and in the countryside it is often not necessary), but then you can enjoy the company of friends and the warmth of the fire even in winter. Not to mention the fact that she is not at all afraid of any wind or summer rain.

Alcove

Built away from the main house, it has four walls, a roof and a foundation. The most expensive option, the improvement of which requires full construction.
But it can be made in any architectural style - from simple to elaborate.

Veranda or terrace

Both the veranda and the terrace are additional elements to the main house, which makes the construction process somewhat easier: one wall is already ready, adding on the rest is much easier. Along with the barbecue, you can place a kitchen there, freeing up space in the cottage for something useful.

Setting up a barbecue area

Whatever design option is chosen, you need to be able to design it correctly.

Finishing and construction

In finishing, preference is given to natural materials that are resistant to external influences.

And the first stage is finishing. It will turn the built canopy (or gazebo) into a real resting place.

In open areas you need to think not only about beauty. Practicality should come first, because what is the use of the most beautiful parquet if it rots in three years? They are usually paved with the following materials:

  • Paving slabs. Durable and beautiful, with many color and pattern options. With its help, you can make the floor mosaic (this is usually done on a patio). It is not too difficult to install, the only drawback is its sensitivity to mechanical influences. If you drop something on it, it will most likely break.
  • A natural stone. It is insensitive to mechanical influences, as well as to nothing in general - it can be used to pave the area under the hearth, and it is unlikely to darken. It serves for many years, looks noble and simple, but may seem a bit boring: its palette is poor.

The rest of the decoration of the open gazebo consists of pillars and a canopy, which can be made of either stone or wood. The first is more expensive, but more durable, the second is more beautiful, but requires complex care.

The design of a closed area is somewhat more complicated. For the floor, you can use tiles and stone (if the walls are made of them) or thick boards (if everything else is made of wood). Even laminate is suitable when the floor is supposed to be laid on aerated concrete blocks. Since rain and snow do not fall into the closed barbecue area, this can be done.

Choosing a grill

You can put up a barbecue, an oven, or even make an open hearth

An obligatory part of any barbecue area is a grill - for the sake of it, by and large, everything was started. However, it also needs to be selected (and possibly replaced with something else). There are many options:

  • Brazier. It looks like a metal box with holes, which designers can decorate in different ways. The cooking principle is simple: firewood is placed in it, then it turns into coals and skewers are stuck on top of them. There is no variability provided, everything is as simple as possible.
  • Grill. It looks like a suitcase with a frying pan inside. Very convenient for cooking meat and fish, as well as sandwiches, hot dogs and other delights of American cuisine. Can be used instead of a smokehouse.
  • Bake. Can be installed on the terrace - it has a special hole into which dishes are inserted, and no open fire. It looks very simple, allows you to build primitive structures, as a result of which you can prepare a huge range of dishes.
  • Hearth. It looks like a fire pit, lined with stones, but, despite its simplicity, it allows you to cook a lot of dishes: bake in and over coals, smoke, boil, put a saucepan or cauldron on top. In addition, you can admire the “dance” of the flames.
  • Tandoor. An oriental oven in which not only meat and fish are cooked, but also delicious bread. Suitable for lovers of culinary delights.
  • B-B-Q. A stove, but with an open fire. Allows you to adjust the height of the grate and the degree to which fish and meat will be cooked.

In addition to all these devices, there is also a purely decorative solution: a garden fireplace. It looks almost the same as its “brother”, but does not allow cooking (except to heat a kettle or bake sausages by hanging them on a wire).

Furniture and lighting

Furniture is chosen to taste, but durable

Selecting furniture and lighting for a closed gazebo or terrace is not much different from the basic principles of purchasing items for a summer house. You should not take flammable materials; it is recommended to give preference to the simple style in which country houses are made.

Another thing is an open barbecue area (it doesn’t matter whether it’s a patio or a pergola, whether it’s paved with tiles or aerated concrete), it needs a different approach.

Furniture should be durable and at the same time light, so that it can be put away for the winter without problems. The classic options are:

  • Plastic. It looks simple, breaks easily, but it is light, bright, resistant to humidity and temperature changes, and does not fade for a long time. Cheap - furnishing a barbecue area with it will be the least of
    expenses. The main disadvantage is that it looks worth the money, and in an elegant design it will look inappropriate and ugly.
  • Forged furniture. Expensive, but very beautiful, with elaborate backs and thin legs. It can withstand almost anything, and if you repaint it every year, it won't even rust. The only negative is that it is very heavy. If one of the guests wants to move the chair closer to the fireplace, some difficulties await him.
  • Artificial rattan. It looks better than plastic, but not by much, and mainly due to the weaving. But it usually produces light, comfortable chairs that are not afraid of anything and can last up to ten years. Particularly chic is the hanging model, which is mounted on a tree (away from the grill).
  • Real wood. It is afraid of water and temperature changes, but it smells nice and looks beautiful. Wooden products are easy to move indoors. It is important to properly care for such items: renew the paint or varnish every spring.

Lighting should complete the picture and make the area finally suitable for receiving guests. Can be used:

  • pendant lamps, light, similar to real, oil lamps (if you have the patience, you can make them with real oil, the main thing is to handle them carefully);
  • ground lights are needed not only to illuminate the area itself, but also to delineate the boundaries of the site;
  • garlands do not so much shine as serve as an accessory;
  • Pole lamps look elegant and simple.

It is desirable that all lighting items are in harmony and combined with each other.

There are many ways to organize a barbecue area at your summer cottage. It is important to take into account all the subtleties and nuances before starting repair work. Whatever your decision, believe in success. Your site will definitely become a wonderful place for relaxation and recreation with family and friends.
