Fulbright Scholarship Program

Harvard University

Fulbright is the most prestigious program that provides the opportunity for students from different parts of the world to receive a quality education in the United States. Graduates and young professionals within this framework have the opportunity to obtain a master's or doctorate degree in the USA. The scholarship fully covers tuition, travel, health insurance, accommodation, textbooks and other minor expenses.

The US Embassy accepts documents. The initial selection of candidates is carried out by the US Embassy. Candidates are then reviewed in the United States by independent selection committees. Today, documents are being accepted for the following Fulbright programs:

Confucius Institute Scholarships

A huge number of countries and universities around the world offer the opportunity to receive a grant or scholarship for study. Of course, most often this is a sentence with small (sometimes incredible) “buts”. Therefore, first of all, you should pay attention to your own compliance with all the requirements of a particular program. And take into account an important fact - it is not at all necessary that all your expenses (study, accommodation, food) will be fully covered.

We decided to collect everything that is known about the most popular programs in which Kazakhstanis can study for free.

Erasmus Mundus

So, for those who are least determined - what to choose? - there is a European program called Erasmus Mundus, which annually allows you to obtain a master's or doctorate degree at universities throughout Europe. The duration is determined by the specific program, but training in several countries will be a prerequisite. That is, each program is taught in several European universities at once, for example: in Spain, Belgium, Sweden and France. During the period of study you must study in at least two countries. The amount of the grant again depends on the specific program. But the real benefits are that everyone has the right to take part and try their luck. You also have the right to apply to any three programs at the same time.

Documents are accepted from October to December of the current year, and studies begin in September of the next year.

There are also master's degree scholarship programs offered by individual countries. In the USA it is Fulbright, in the UK it is Chevening.

Fulbright

The American Fulbright program allows you to become a master in almost any field, with the exception of medicine. The scholarship fully covers the cost of training, also provides the candidate with a monthly stipend, pays for consumable educational materials and pays for a round-trip ticket. Since the prospect is very tempting, there are a number of “buts”: first, the candidate must have at least two years of work experience, the second condition is that the candidate has not previously studied at universities in the United States. Also, to successfully receive a Fulbright grant, participants must obtain TOEFL and GRE/GMAT certificates, but when directly submitting the application form, it is not necessary to have a certificate; it is enough to register for the exam.

Chevening

And if your dream is to study in the “homeland” of Harry Potter, then there is a Chevening program for this. Sponsored by the UK government, the program also covers tuition costs and provides a monthly stipend plus travel costs. The requirements for candidates are the same as for the Fulbright program, with the exception of the required IELTS certificate (overall score 6.5) and a small clause in the form of returning to their home country no later than two years after completion of the program. The range of study areas includes natural sciences, political science, journalism, economics, public administration, climate change and other areas.

If the process of applying and participating in these scholarship programs seems complicated, do not forget that there is another option - Some foreign universities offer discounts/scholarships for their programs.

The basis of a grant in any country is language proficiency, and not English, but something directly related to the country of study itself. Yes, there are opportunities to study in English in almost every country, but getting a scholarship in this case may be more difficult.

The cost of studying at universities in Kazakhstan increases every year, while in European countries this opportunity is either absolutely free or a nominal fee is charged. Find out where there is free education in Europe for Kazakhstanis.

Higher education in Kazakhstan provides two forms of training - paid and free. After passing the UNT, only a third of graduates of Kazakhstani schools can qualify for free education.

The Association of Universities of Kazakhstan analyzed the fees for obtaining education. The numbers are impressive - from 150 thousand per year to 2 million tenge. Some children, having missed a few points when passing the UNT, are forced to give up their dreams and choose another profession that can be obtained for free, or they are looking for an alternative to universities in Kazakhstan.

Recently, studying abroad for Kazakhstanis has become a trend. Let's consider options that offer free education abroad for Kazakhstanis:

    Germany

Germany has become the latest European country to waive university tuition fees. Education in Germany is based on the principle of social equality: every capable and talented young person can obtain a profession for free at any university in the country. To do this, it is enough to know the language (German or English) at a certain level and have the financial ability to live in Germany and pay for your social needs.

Universities in Germany open their doors to everyone who wants to obtain bachelor's or master's degrees in specialties in both technical, economic and humanitarian fields. Universities adapt to applicants, so if there are difficulties with the German language, the university will offer a program in English.

At the same time, those who want to test their strength and enroll in a German educational institution should know that studying in Germany does not involve passing entrance exams, but the admissions committee takes the applicant’s achievements seriously.

Everything is taken into account: the level of training, participation in scientific projects and experiments, the presence of scientific discoveries and works, speeches at conferences, humanitarian and social work. Teachers want to be sure that the applicant’s intentions are serious. In addition, for some specialties (medical fields) the enrollment of students is limited.

The basic documents for admission to German universities are as follows:

    1. Certificate or certificate of the applicant's secondary education.
    2. A document that confirms the financial solvency of the future student. This is necessary for the consulate to make sure that the foreigner can provide accommodation, food, payment for benefits and materials necessary for the educational process, etc.
    3. Study or student visa.
    4. Application to the admissions committee.
    5. Medical insurance that will be valid throughout the entire period of study.

Pay attention to the document certifying that the applicant has a sufficient command of the language of instruction. Such forms are issued by special centers where you can be tested before applying to universities in Germany.

    Norway

Norwegian universities also offer free education for foreign students. The level of higher education in this Scandinavian country is considered one of the best in Europe. This is especially true for specialties related to media studies, medicine, sociology and anthropology.

Norwegian universities provide the opportunity to study in English (for economics, management, etc.), as well as in Norwegian.

To learn Norwegian, you will have to take free courses that operate in all municipalities of the country, or take preparatory courses that are available in leading universities in Bergen, Oslo, and Trosmo.

Among the documents, the future student, in addition to the certificate or diploma translated into Norwegian, needs to take care of the IELTS certificate. To do this, you will have to take a test and receive a transcript with a grade assigned on an international scale.

Universities do not require proof of income, because the dormitory, on-campus cafeteria and medical care are free for foreign students. But you will have to take care of financial security, because Norway is one of the most expensive European countries.

    Czech Republic

Since the Middle Ages, the Czech Republic has been considered a country whose universities provide the best higher education in Europe. Free education in the Czech Republic for Kazakhstanis is possible only in state universities where teaching is conducted in the Czech language.

If you want to study in English, you can only do this at private universities and you have to pay for such education. A year of study in such educational institutions is about two thousand euros.

When applying for free training, be prepared to take exams in specialized subjects and go through a competition, because the number of places is limited. If you decide to enroll in the economics department, you will have to take tests in mathematics and English.

What documents are needed for admission:

    1. Nostrified certificate of secondary education or diploma of higher education. It will be issued in Prague. To receive it, you need to provide an extract about the hours that were allocated for studying the subjects.
    2. Certificate B2 for knowledge of the Czech language. It will be given in Czech language courses.

The student will have to take care of support, since food and accommodation on Czech campuses are paid. The hostel will cost an average of 150 euros, and food - up to 300 euros.

Most often, Kazakhstanis go to the Czech Republic to obtain such professions as financier, entrepreneur, physician, economist and manager, architect and programmer.

    Finland

Finland provides equal conditions for citizens and foreigners when it comes to obtaining higher education in public educational institutions. Education at Finnish universities is free.

Applicants from Kazakhstan can enroll in any of the 10 leading Finnish universities. Most often, Kazakhstanis give preference to programming and natural sciences, including medicine, and more precisely dentistry.

Despite the fact that there is no teaching fee, foreigners cannot avoid spending on teaching. They will have to pay for meals, study guides and materials, visiting the library and using its resources, using the gym, and excursions. In addition, you must pay annual fees to the student associations where you are a member.

Students are offered study programs in Finnish or Swedish, as well as in the international language of communication - English.

To enter a Finnish university you will need:

    1. Certificate B2, which indicates the level of English proficiency.
    2. Translation into English or Finnish of the contents of the Kazakhstani secondary education certificate.
    3. Student visa.

Students from Kazakhstan need to take care of paying for accommodation in university dormitories and their needs while studying in Finland.

If you want to get a Finnish bachelor’s degree, you must study for at least 3.5 years at a university, and if you’re aiming for a master’s or doctorate, it will take 8 years.

    Poland

Poland is one of the most attractive European countries in terms of obtaining a university education. The offers of educational institutions for foreign citizens are rapidly increasing, and the conditions for admission are being simplified.

Most Polish universities charge tuition fees. This applies to everyone: both foreigners and Poles. But there are opportunities for Kazakhstanis to receive free training. This:

    • scholarship funds and programs;
    • grants;
    • Erasmus student and teacher exchange program.

School graduates and students of Kazakhstani universities who have high scores, speak English at the B2 level and have studied for at least 2 years in a certain specialty can participate in them.

To submit documents to universities in Poland you will need:

    1. Translation into one of the basic languages for the country (Polish or English) of a diploma/certificate issued in Kazakhstan.
    2. A certificate confirming a sufficient level of knowledge of the Polish language.
    3. Medical certificate of health and medical insurance.

If you study in two languages at a Polish university, you will receive two diplomas - Polish and British.

    Greece

Greek universities offer free education to Kazakhstanis who speak Greek or are ready to learn it in the first year of university preparation. Such students will not have to pay either for a dormitory or for meals in the university canteen.

But remember that when applying for a free form, you must pass a competition. In most Greek institutes, applicants take a general exam in nine subjects. It consists of two stages - oral and written. Some offer other forms of verification.

What is needed to enter a Greek state university:

    1. A high school diploma or diploma translated into Greek.
    2. Certificate determining knowledge of the Greek language. It is issued by universities after the prospective student passes the appropriate exam.

There may be mandatory but minor fees for study materials. You will have to study at Greek universities for 4 years, and in some (medical fields) - 6 years.

European education is becoming popular among Kazakhstanis. This is because the diploma that the specialist receives in this case gives him the opportunity to get a job in any country in Europe.

Explore all your options so you know what requirements you'll face if you choose this path to higher education.

In addition to university programs, there are a number of international scholarships and grants that allow you to study for free.
