How to brew and how to drink rose hips for prevention

For the preparation of the drink, you can use both dry rose hips and fresh ones. Dried raw materials have the same chemical composition as fresh ones. We will analyze how to properly brew the fruits in each case.

How to brew wild rose in a thermos

Dried berries can be prepared in two ways - in the form of a decoction and in the form of an infusion, for which you need a thermos to brew.

How to brew dried rose hips in a thermos:

    1. Fruits and water are taken in a ratio of 1:10.
    2. Dry rose hips are thoroughly washed.

    4. Put in a thermos and pour boiling water.
    5. Infuse for at least 7 hours, and preferably throughout the night.

    Drink without a thermos

It is also possible to prepare a drink correctly without a thermos; instead, you can use a simple glass jar with a plastic lid wrapped in a towel, or try the following recipe.

    From dried fruits

Preparation of dried rose hips without a thermos:

    1. The same amount of dried rose hips as in the previous recipe is boiled under the lid for about 1 hour.
    2. During the cooking process, water is added so that at the end the original volume is preserved.
    3. The broth is infused for another 2-3 hours.

    From fresh berries

A healthy drink can also be made from freshly picked berries.

How to brew fresh rose hips without a thermos:

    1. Take fruits at the rate of 3 tbsp. per liter of water.
    2. Rinse them and mash with a fork or chop with a meat grinder.
    3. Pour half of the volume of boiling water, cover the container with a lid and wrap.
    4. Strain the infusion after 40 minutes.
    5. Pour the berries from the infusion with the remaining boiling water and cook for 30 minutes.
    6. Strain again and combine the decoction with the infusion.

If you want to use a thermos, then a drink from fresh fruits is made in the same way as dried rose hips were brewed.

    Re-brew or not?

An equally important question is how many times can you brew the same berries? Of course, in order for the drink to be as useful as possible, it is better to use new raw materials each time. The medicinal properties of wild rose, brewed again, are significantly reduced. But just for a delicious tea party, you can steam the fruits 2 times, this will not greatly affect the taste.

    Tea for immunity

Depending on the purpose, you need to use drinks from the plant in different ways. If you want to start drinking rosehip tea for immunity as a preventive measure, you must adhere to the following rules:

    • daily norm - no more than 3 cups per day;
    • time of admission - 30 minutes before meals, or an hour later;
    • after use, the mouth must be rinsed with water.

We looked at how to brew and how to drink rose hips for prevention. These are generally accepted methods, but when used by different categories of people and for different purposes, there will be some nuances in cooking.

How to brew rose hips to preserve vitamins

You need to understand that there is no such method of brewing, after which 100% of useful substances would survive. But you can use certain tricks to save vitamins. How to brew wild rose in this case:

    1. First of all, you need to lower the temperature of the water. If you cool it to 60 degrees, valuable substances will not be damaged during brewing, this also applies to fragile vitamin C. To do this, you just need to wait 2-3 minutes after boiling, and only then steam the fruits.
    2. Dishes also have an impact. The most sparing is considered to be cooking in a thermos with a glass flask.

These rules will not help if you are using dried wild rose harvested using the wrong technology. Healing properties are preserved only with such drying:

    • in the shadow;
    • in a well-ventilated area;
    • at temperature conditions from +20 to +28 degrees.

From high-quality raw materials, you can prepare a healthy vitamin drink:

    1. Crushed berries are placed in a cast iron, filled with filtered water at room temperature (for 3 tbsp. 1 liter of water).
    2. Infuse until swollen for 30-60 minutes.
    3. Then another 100 ml of water is added and the cast iron is placed for 40 minutes to languish in the oven with minimal heat, boiling is not allowed.
    4. The oven is turned off, and the drink is infused for 8-12 hours.

Thus, the benefits of rosehip tea depend on many factors - how many degrees are in the water for brewing, how long the broth is on fire, how many times the fruits were brewed, as well as on the quality of the raw materials and the utensils used. It is not always easy to follow all these rules, but only in this case you can count on a therapeutic effect.

How to prepare and give rosehip tea to a child

As with the use of any drug, when treating a child with rose hips, smaller dosages should be used than for an adult. How much to take rose hips per liter in this case? The number of fruits should be reduced by at least half, the younger the child, the lower the concentration. You can do it easier - brew a drink for the whole family in the usual way, and for the baby dilute it 1: 1 with boiled water.

There are also differences in how much infusion can be given. At a time, the child is given no more than a third of a glass. For prevention during the cold season, it is enough to take 1 time per day. For medicinal purposes, the drink is given 2 times a day until recovery. To improve its taste, honey or sugar is added to it. Or for a baby, you can prepare not only healthy, but also delicious rosehip tea with apples, chamomile, lemon and honey:

    1. Prepare the ingredients - wash the wild rose (fresh or dry) and dried apples, rinse the lemons too and cut into thin plastics.
    2. 4 tbsp rose hips, 1 tbsp. apples, 1 tbsp. dried chamomile flowers and 1 lemon, pour 8 cups of water in a saucepan, bring to a boil and cook for 5 minutes on low heat.
    3. Leave to infuse under the lid. When the liquid cools down a bit, add 6 tbsp. honey and stir until dissolved.

This drink is sure to please the kids. But before you brew rosehip for a child, for the purpose of using it in treatment, make sure that he is not allergic to the components of the plant. To do this, you need to start taking with 1 tbsp, observing the reaction, and only in the absence of allergy symptoms, go to the recommended dosages.

These were all ways to use rose hips to prevent and treat colds, but other health problems can be solved with the help of the plant.

Healing decoctions of wild rose for various diseases

In medical recipes, not only rose hips are used, but also its other components.

There are many ways to use the plant in home treatment. For a positive result, you need to know how to brew rose hips correctly and how to drink it for various diseases. To do this, we examined the ways in which drinks can be made from the fruits and other components of the plant, how many times you can brew berries, and what kind of dishes you need to use. With knowledge of these nuances, you can easily be healed with the help of rose hips from your ailment.

Rosehip is an excellent source of vitamins, micro and macro elements, flavonoids, tannins, organic acids and essential oils. This plant is widely used by doctors, pharmacists, perfumers, as well as manufacturers of food and alcohol products. Rose hips are also used by traditional healers, however, as well as "mere mortals" who care about their own health.

People have learned to use all parts of the wild rose for their own benefit: from roots to fruits. However, outside of laboratories and industrial workshops, most often only fruits with seeds are used, from which infusions, steams, decoctions and, of course, alcohol tinctures (where without them) are prepared.

In urban conditions, only decoctions and infusions are available to us, which, however, are quite enough not only to maintain the body in a healthy state, but also to heal certain ailments. As for steams, their preparation is possible only in Russian ovens, and alcohol tinctures do not need to be subjected to heat treatment at all. In addition, the presence of alcohol imposes quite significant restrictions on the use of this tool. Therefore, we will “set aside” steams and tinctures aside and deal only with how to properly brew rose hips in a metropolis. After all, it is here, as you know, that the healing properties of wild rose are most in demand.

And the main thing here is to understand how to brew rose hips so that the maximum of useful substances contained in the fruits and seeds of this plant pass into the decoction (infusion).

    How to brew fresh rosehip?

In our area, it is rare to brew fresh rose hips - only at the time of its ripening (only a few weeks). However, it is in these short weeks that rosehip is able to give a person a maximum of useful substances contained in it. However, it should be understood that fresh fruits are very delicate and require the same “gentle” approach to extracting vitamins, minerals and other useful components of this plant.

At the same time, unfortunately, there is still no consensus on how exactly fresh rose hips should be brewed. And everyone brews it in their own way.

For our part, we offer the following algorithm for making a healing drink from the fruits and seeds of fresh rose hips:

    • Rinse the rose hips, open and clean them of “rough” hairs, which, when they get on the skin and mucous membranes of the throat, cause itching and perspiration (and even cough), respectively.
    • Mash the fruits and seeds peeled from hairs with a fork.
    • Place the resulting mass in any glass container - ideally a thermos with a glass flask - and pour 60-degree water (better cold than hot). The ratio of rose hips and water for prophylactic use is 1 teaspoon of the mashed mass of fruits and rose hip seeds per 1 glass of water.
    • Keep the infusion for about 40 minutes and strain through cheesecloth or a fine sieve.
    • After that, the used fruits should be put in a saucepan / stewpan or mug, pour water (1 teaspoon per 0.5 liter of water) and boil for half an hour.
    • Strain the broth, cool and mix with the infusion.
    • Add honey if desired and drink.

This option of brewing fresh rose hips will first allow you to carefully extract vitamins and minerals sensitive to high temperatures, and then “pull out” useful elements from the plant that are not afraid of prolonged cooking.

Important! The temperature of 60°C was chosen for a reason. Further heating destroys vitamins, and also leads to a change in the structure of some minerals (for example, calcium), after which these elements will be useless for humans.

How to brew dried rose hips?

In terms of brewing, dried rose hips are not much different from fresh ones in terms of the procedure itself. There are some minor tweaks though. Let's recap the entire recipe:

    • Rinse.
    • Grind in a coffee grinder or blender (without cleaning from hairs).
    • Next, pour the resulting "flour" into a thermos with a glass flask, pour 60-degree water and infuse for 45-50 minutes (longer infusion is due to the need to soak dry rosehip particles).
    • Filter the infusion.
    • For 30 minutes, boil the "sediment" (1 tsp of feedstock per 0.5 liter of water).
    • Filter again, cool, mix the decoction with the infusion and add honey (or any other "sweetener").

In addition, whole rose hips can also be brewed. Just immediately tune in that this brewing process will take much longer, or rather, from 7 to 12 hours. Well, you can’t do without a thermos with a glass flask either. Metal thermoses somewhat reduce the useful properties of wild rose, which is why we recommend using only thermoses with a glass flask for brewing wild rose.

The simplest option for brewing whole dry rosehips looks like this: put rosehips in a thermos, pour 60-degree water and soak from 7 to 12 hours (depending on the limits of your patience). It is ideal to leave the infusion overnight, and in the morning drink a healthy drink with honey or apple jam ...

After the night, the infusion can be drained, and several new fruits can be added to the used fruits and brewed again with 60-degree water. Old fruits can be thrown away after 3-4 days. This approach will allow you to extract vitamins and hard-to-reach minerals from rose hips.

Important! All recipes and recommendations for proportions are for preventive purposes only. If you are going to treat some kind of disease, consult your doctor who will tell you exactly how to brew rose hips in your particular situation.

    Healing properties of wild rose

The healing properties of rose hips have been known for at least several centuries. Then decoctions, steams and infusions of wild rose were used as an antiscorbutic agent, and also used for anemia (anemia) and depletion of the body, regardless of its nature.

In those days, healers did not yet know about the existence of vitamins, minerals, tricky esters, flavonoids and acids. They saw only the high effectiveness of rose hips in such diseases and disorders as:

The benefits of rosehip decoction for children and pregnant women

For children and pregnant women, rosehip decoctions and infusions are useful because they:

    • increase hemoglobin, including by activating a mechanism that releases iron stores stored by the liver
    • are a good help in the fight against any infectious diseases, including SARS, acute respiratory infections and influenza, which can cause serious harm to children in the womb
    • protect veins from varicose veins, and also give additional elasticity and mobility to blood vessels

But! It is very important to understand that even a preventive intake of rosehip decoction is possible only under the supervision of a specialist (we are talking about regular intake of decoction). In addition, it should be remembered that after each serving of rosehip broth, rinse your mouth so as not to damage tooth enamel, which is especially important in childhood, as well as for pregnant women.
